Abstract:
Globalization has resulted in a shift in human morals, marked by the many cases of moral deviations that are rife in various parts of Indonesia so that the application of spiritual attitudes has not been maximized. The attitude of dishonesty is shown by the number of students who cheat on the test, and the attitude of indiscipline is shown by the number of students who are late so that the application of social attitudes does not seem to be visible. The role of PAI teachers is considered quite important for the development of these two attitudes. At SMPN 1 Darussalam, PAI teachers have played a role in fostering spiritual and social attitudes. Big. This research was conducted with a field study using a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews and documentation. The results showed the role of PAI teachers in fostering spiritual attitudes by praying before and after lessons, praying in congregation, doing charity activities every Friday, and religious activities. The role of PAI teachers in fostering social attitudes is carried out through social service activities, visiting the Disabled Foundation and nursing homes, getting used to the 3S (smile, greeting, greeting), reporting to the teacher what items are found, punishing students who are late. Factors supporting the role of Islamic Education teachers in fostering spiritual and social attitudes are seen from adequate school facilities in the form of female/male prayer rooms, learning media such as LCD, the use of active methods. While the inhibiting factors include the lack of adequate facilities, especially LCDs, the lack of interest in teachers and knowledge, and the lack of interest in students to improve themselves.

Abstract:
Caring behaviors of faculty is one of the most important and influential factors for effective learning. If left only as an assumption of caring, this behavior will not become alive in nursing professional practice. This present study aimed to explore nursing students’ experiences of nursing faculty’s caring behaviors in learning. Descriptive phenomenology was used to collect data from ten senior bachelor nursing students at the private university in Bandung, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and ethical considerations were followed. The result was transcribed and analyzed by using a qualitative content analysis approach. Trustworthiness was established by Lincoln and Guba’s criteria. Nell Noddings’ three great means of nurturing the ethical ideal were reflected in these subjects. The interview data analysis revealed three key themes reflected by all participants: tangible virtue, challenging interaction, and modeling. The six sub-themes emerged reflected as: moral attitude, moral action, supportive interaction, disruptive interaction, personal model and professional model. Results suggested that faculty caring behavior is a useful strategy for nursing students caring behavior development during the program before they enter their real professional role. The exact levels of faculty caring behavior needs to be measured to depict the faculty caring behavior in nursing education.

Abstract:
Background: The importance of the interprofessional education (IPE) program has been depicted through various forms of the IPE curriculum. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced a change in the implementation of IPE; this has caused the method of implementing IPE to change online. This study aims to assess the readiness of three different healthcare professions for implementing IPE using the Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale (RIPLS).Methods: The RIPLS survey was completed by 108 medical students, 40 pharmacy students, and 30 nursing students at Universitas Syiah Kuala, Indonesia. The survey was done after the students carried out the online IPE intervention, which was held during the COVID-19 pandemic. They also completed open-ended questions reflecting their attitude towards and experience from the online IPE implementation. Results: There was no significant difference regarding student readiness for interprofessional learning among the three academic disciplines. Generally, as many as 57.9% of students showed a positive perception of IPE. Separate analysis for each study program showed that all of them were in the high range of scores for positive perception. Pharmacy students have the highest positive perception of IPE (60%), while medical and nursing students’ scores were 54.6% and 53.3%, respectively. Qualitative interviews revealed that: 1) the scheduling of IPE implementation was not suitable for the students, 2) the online communication between professions was not as effective as expected challenging, and 3) there was a growing awareness to respect other professions. Conclusion: It can be concluded that conducting the IPE program during the COVID-19 pandemic experienced many obstacles, especially communication. However, it still maintains the main objective of IPE, which is to respect other professions.

Abstract:
There were several incidents of work accidents in the form of needle sticks recorded in several studies in Indonesia from 2014-2021, totaling 57 cases. Potential hazards in educational laboratories are considered lower than in health laboratories and industrial laboratories because they use relatively fewer materials. However, it will still result in financial losses, injuries and damage to equipment and infrastructure. Based on the results of interviews with the head of the nursing laboratory sub-unit, it was found that some students did not wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) during the practicum. In 2019 there were 2 incidents of students getting needle sticks during practice. There were 3 students who did not wear full PPE when the practicum took place in 2022. Compliance with the use of PPE at the Tanjungpinang Health Polytechnic Nursing Laboratory during the practicum greatly affects the personal safety of the students themselves. This study aimed to determine the practice of using PPE on student work safety in the nursing laboratory. The researcher involved all students of the second semester of Nursing Study Program for the 2021-2022 academic year and were willing to be involved in research. The number of respondents as many as 78 people. Data were obtained through a questionnaire in the form of a test sheet containing 30 questions. The results of data analysis showed that 55% of respondents had high knowledge of the use of PPE and as many as 46% had a positive attitude in using PPE and 54% had a negative attitude. Students are required to read laboratory rules and provide sanctions to students who do not comply with the use of PPE in the laboratory.

Abstract:
Abstract Objectives Sex education toward adolescent remains the most controversial subject due to the various thoughts and ideas of different values present in society. Nurse educators as parents must exemplify sex education to their children. The aim of this present study was to explore parents’ experience, with nurse educators background to be exact, on how they convey sex education to their children. Methods This study is a descriptive qualitative study, and the sample is recruited by using the purposive sampling technique. The qualified participants filled in the informed consent, provided demographic data, and were interviewed. Saturation data were obtained at the 6th interview in this study. The interview is transcribed to find themes and subthemes using conventional content analysis. Results We derived 3 main themes: parents’ approach, sex education topic, and children's reaction. Parents’ approach contained 4 subthemes, namely, gender match, parent–child closeness, media, and attitude. Sex education topic included 5 subthemes of bodily autonomy, health and safety, reproductive anatomy, puberty-related changes, and how to maintain healthiness. Children's reaction experiences also included 4 subthemes of uncomfortable, questioning, acknowledging, and laughing. Conclusions As a matter of fact, some parents in eastern countries, such as Indonesia, conveyed sex education to their children. Children might have various reactions to that topic, but it is important to keep them safe, especially in reproductive health, regardless of the culture or tradition. Based on nurse educators as exemplifiers, nurses and nursing students might acquire the picture in conveying sex education to adolescents.

Abstract:
This paper explores cultural shock experiences encountered by African students studying in Indonesian Universities. The study used qualitative approach to collect data through in-depth face-to-face interviews with African students and participant observation. The findings of the study reveal that many African students had experienced unfamiliar situation that are different from those of their home countries in the course of study in Indonesia. Such situation leads to what is called “culture shock”, which includes new academic life, culture fatigue, language barrier and food outlets. The study has shown that most of the stress had a profound impact on shaping their acculturation and living in Indonesia. The study adds knowledge to literature, particularly on generating ideas for better management of culture shock in an alien environment. Accordingly, the study recommends that before embarking to abroad for education, it is very important to understand the mechanism and consequences of study abroad and shape our knowledge of how these experience function worldwide and students should develop positive attitudes in order to ease their adjustment to an alien culture and setting.

Abstract:
This article reports a follow-up study of Norwegian nursing students entitled ‘The helping motive -an important goal for choosing nursing education’. It presents and discusses a significant ambiguity within the altruistic helping motive of 301 nursing students in the light of classical and modern virtue ethics. A quantitative longitudinal survey design was used to study socialization and building professional identity. The follow-up study began after respondents had completed more than two-and-a-half years of the three-year educational programme. Data were collected using a questionnaire with closed questions, supplemented by 18 semi-structured, in-depth, audiotaped interviews. A motive such as ‘desire for human contact/to help others’ appeared to be highly significant. The research questions employed were: What motivates nursing students at the end of their studies to help other people? What does helping others mean for nursing students? Factor analysis revealed two factors. Factor 1 can be expressed as an altruism factor and factor 2 can be interpreted as an ‘acknowledgement-from-the-patient factor’ that in fact indicates an ambiguity within the helping motive itself. Findings from the interviews also reveal ambiguous helping motives. On one hand the students want to be altruistic and on the other they wish to receive positive feedback from patients when giving help. The findings indicate that this positive feedback is essential to the students in order for them to provide altruistic care.

Abstract:
This paper examines the language attitudes of Minangkabau people toward Minangkabau language (MIN) and Indonesian (BI) in West Sumatra, Indonesia. The data were collected in the form of questionnaires, in-depth interviews and participant observation with a sample of 200 Adult respondents in six research areas. This research uses a Likert scale with the categories classified into five alternatives (1 = Strongly Disagree, 2 = Disagree, 3 = Uncertain, 4 = Agree, and 5= strongly agree) and there are some tables analyzed based on yes/no questions, no=0 and yes=1. There are twelve questions on the questionnaire pertaining to the attitudes of adults. The results show that the adult attitudes can be classified into three categories, (1) positive; (2) negative; and (3) ambivalent attitudes. The third category is dominant. The term ‘ambivalent” is used for intermediate results. It is shown that the respondents expressed their feeling in both positive and negative comments in the same utterance when answering the questions related to MIN. For these responses, it is seen that there is a mixed feeling where they use “but” or “although” after expressing their positive feelings thereby countering their first statement. The evidence of the ambivalent and mixed feelings from respondents is shown. This means that Minangkabau people tend to avoid the conflict of having negative opinions; they tend to say what they mean in more indirect ways. On the other side, there is a positive attitude in response to the questions about BI. Majority of respondents have very strong positive attitudes towards BI

Abstract:
This study employed qualitative construct mapping and factor analysis to construct a scale to measure attitudes toward dementia. Five family caregivers, five professionals, and five college students participated in structured interviews. Qualitative analysis of the interviews led to a 46-item scale, which was reduced to 20 items following principal axis factoring with two different samples: college students () and certified nursing assistant students (). Confirmatory factor analysis was then conducted with another sample of college students (). The final scale, titled the Dementia Attitudes Scale (DAS), essentially had a two-factor structure; the factors were labeled “dementia knowledge” and “social comfort.” Total-scale Cronbach's alphas ranged 0.83–0.85. Evidence for convergent validity was promising, as the DAS correlated significantly with scales that measured ageism and attitudes toward disabilities (range of correlations = 0.44–0.55; mean correlation ). These findings demonstrate the reliability and validity of the DAS, supporting its use as a research tool.

Abstract:
This study aims to explore the perceived stressors among students at the Higher Institute of Nursing professions and Health Techniques (ISPITS) in Rabat, and the coping strategies used. This is a descriptive study, based on the documentary analysis and the interviews, conducted, in 2009, among 500 students from all training courses and 18 administrative and pedagogical managers. Institutional factors (78.8%) are clearly causes that generate students’ stress in relation to personal and environmental factors. Students manage the stress, generated by all factors, adopting emotional, behavioral and cognitive attitudes. The majority of students engage in isolation and loneliness. The interventions of the sections coordinators towards stressed students take the form of listening and psycho-emotional support that they provide to them. Stress among undergraduate students at ISPITS Rabat is a reality. The establishment of a listening team for students, the improvement of learning conditions, good planning and organization of studies, and the dissemination of information and prevention programs to students and teachers are essential measures to deal with student stress. Stress management interventions should be offered to students at the beginning of their training in order to reduce the negative impact of stress and exhaustion on these students.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to explore nurses’ knowledge and attitudes toward the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) among cancer patients in a palliative care setting. A descriptive qualitative approach was used in this study. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 10 nurses recruited using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using an inductive semantic approach. Thematic analysis identified that nurses possess limited knowledge of CAM. Nurses were skeptical toward CAM and less confident to recommend its use. Four main themes (and two subthemes) emerged: Understanding of CAM, Hesitative Attitudes, Personal Experience, and Preferences in Learning about CAM. There is a need to integrate CAM topics into nursing education programs in order to develop nurses’ knowledge and build positive attitudes toward CAM use. Sufficient knowledge and positive attitudes toward CAM would support safety and quality of care in management of patients with cancer who use or are contemplating using CAM.

Abstract:
Objective: The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore nursing faculty attitudes towards students with disabilities enrolled in baccalaureate nursing programs. Additionally, we aimed to describe the types of accommodations provided to students with disabilities in the clinical setting. Methods: In two institutions of higher education in the southeastern United States, purposive and snowball sampling was used to recruit 14 nursing faculty with experience teaching in clinical courses. One-on-one interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide. Data were transcribed and analyzed using Colaizzi’s process for phenomenological data analysis. The social model of disability served as the conceptual framework for the study. Results: Six themes emerged from the data analysis: ‘Math is a basic required skill,’ ‘You can’t just skip clinical,’ ‘It’s my job to help them learn,’ ‘I’m not prepared for this,’ ‘What type of job will they get,’ and ‘overcoming obstacles.’ Nursing faculty reported positive attitudes towards students with disabilities, but also voiced concerns about patient safety and the ability for a student with a disability to find success. Several barriers including disclosure, lack of accessibility in hospitals, nursing culture, and faculty workload were identified. Conclusions: A lack of clear policies and guidelines leaves nursing faculty unsure of what accommodations are appropriate for students with disabilities and how to implement accommodations in clinical courses. The study demonstrates a need for continuing education regarding teaching methodologies that are effective and meaningful for students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, diagnosed anxiety, and specific learning disabilities. Further research is warranted to identify appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities in the clinical setting.

Abstract:
Some researchers have researched to explore the effects of gender differences on learning outcomes. However, the interrelatedness of gender differences to attitudes and motivation needs to explore and investigate more. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the students' attitudes toward the English language and their motivation toward English language teaching based on gender differences in a state junior high school in Banyumas Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. There were 38 male and 32 female students who participated in this research. This research used a survey adapted from the Attitude/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB) and interviews in collecting the data. The researchers employed descriptive statistics and MANOVA for quantitative data and the Miles and Huberman model for qualitative data analysis. The findings showed a significant difference and effect of gender differences on the students' attitudes and motivation. Both male and female students revealed moderately high attitudes and motivation. However, female students showed a higher average score of the survey result. Less practice in real-life communication and limited exposure was the reason why the male students' have lower results in their attitudes and motivation toward English learning. Thus, providing authentic materials and exposure became some of the key points to improve meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract:
Although writing motivation has been widely investigated, limited research has focused on the three elements of internal motivation: writing beliefs, self-efficacy, and attitudes, let alone in the Papuan context. This study explored 32 Papuan EFL undergraduate students' internal motivation in essay writing through a purposive sampling technique. This research adopted a mixed method of quantitative and qualitative data. In collecting the quantitative data, a questionnaire was distributed through the Google Forms platform and analyzed using SPSS 26.0. Meanwhile, semi-structured interviews were conducted to gain qualitative data and analyzed by reading the data transcription and listening to the data recording three times to gain more valid information about the students' internal motivation in writing. The findings revealed that most EFL students had realized the importance of writing (WB1; M=3.63). Some students also demonstrated self-efficacy as writers (SE1; M=3.67), while others still felt anxious during writing (SE4; 3.60). Furthermore, some participants had created a positive attitude toward writing, whereas others did not. This research offers pedagogical implications for the lecturers and educators to promote the importance of writing to their students, encourage them to increase their self-efficacy as writers, and create positive attitudes toward writing.

Abstract:
Competency for pediatric pain management is fundamental for nurses’ responsibility in caring for pediatric patients with pain. However, effective nursing management of pain in hospitalized children continues to be a challenge more often linked to competency deficit as a consequence of unpreparedness in the pre-licensing education. Previous studies have established that nursing students exhibited lack of knowledge and poor attitudes regarding pediatric pain management, but none of the studies were done in the Rwandan context. The current study explores the pediatric pain management competencies taught to nursing students in Rwanda. An exploratory descriptive qualitative design based on face-to-face individual interviews and focus group discussions was utilized. Fourteen nurse educators and preceptors and nineteen nursing students were recruited from five study settings to explore their perspectives about pediatric pain management competencies taught to nursing students. Participants’ narratives were analysed using thematic analysis from which six main themes emerged. Participants narrated that competencies related to children pain assessment, pain medication and non-drug pain management interventions were taught to students. However, findings also revealed the challenges that impacted the teaching and learning of paediatric pain management, which need to be addressed for the improvement of pre-service training about pain management in children. The findings from the study suggested further research for a better understanding of the nature of those challenges to inform tailored strategies aimed at improving quality health care provision to children through an improved pediatric pain management education at the undergraduate level.

A series of open-ended questions were asked that were intended to elicit honest, thoughtful responses regarding how they view the other profession, their relationship, and thoughts on the quality of future professional collaboration. Social identity theory was used as the conceptual framework to guide this study. Themes were then extracted from the interviews. Results: The main themes found were in the areas of attitudes and behaviors. Nursing students had more positive than negative comments about interdisciplinary attitudes, but they had slightly more negative comments regarding interdisciplinary behaviors. Medical students commented far more on interdisciplinary behaviors than on attitudes, with both categories turning out more positive than negative. Specific subthemes included medical students’ concern with sexism against female physicians and their high degree of concern over how interdisciplinary relationships affect the patient. Nursing students believed the relationship would be respectful depending on the unit. However, most of them expressed concern with how negative behaviors impact the patient. Conclusion: Learning standout themes from nursing and medical students’ perceptions of their future working relationships can aid in finding barriers that can be addressed. Future research would be beneficial to discover themes on a larger scale.

Abstract:
Purpose: This study aimed to explore nursing students' experiences of neonatal nursing simulations using peer tutoring. Methods: In this qualitative content analysis study, data were collected using a narrative survey and focus group interviews with 27 third-year nursing students and six fourth-year nursing students from April to May 2022. Content analysis of the collected data was conducted. Results: Four categories—"stabilizing emotionally through each other", "advancing together", "difficulties in relationships", and "hoping to continue"—and nine sub-categories were extracted. The sub-categories "reduced burden" and "gaining confidence" were grouped into the first category, "stabilizing emotionally through each other". The sub-categories "being motivated to learn," "increased learning ability", and "preparation as a process" were grouped under "advancing together", and "attitudes affecting study environment" and "depending on help" were grouped into the third category of "difficulties in relationships". The fourth category of "hoping to continue" had "wanting to supplement for development" and "wanting to participate in different roles" as sub-categories. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, we expect pediatric nursing practicum education to improve through the active use of neonatal nursing simulation education incorporating peer tutoring.

Abstract:
Nursing students need foundation knowledge and skills to keep patients safe in continuously changing health care environments. A gap exists in our knowledge of the value students place on interprofessional patient safety education. The purpose of this exploratory, mixed methods study was to understand nursing students’ attitudes about the value of an interprofessional patient safety course to their professional development and its role in health professions curricula. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected from formative course performance measures, course evaluations, and interviews with six nursing students. The qualitative themes of awareness, ownership, and action emerged and triangulated with the descriptive quantitative results from student performance and course evaluations. Students placed high value on the course and essential nature of interprofessional patient safety content. These findings provide a first step toward integration of interprofessional patient safety education into nursing curricula and in meeting the Institute of Medicine’s goals for the nursing profession.

Abstract:
While learner autonomy has proved to be one of the determinants of successful language learning, little has been scrutinized when implemented in EFL online learning settings. This study aimed to investigate learner autonomy in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) online classes as viewed from the students’ standpoints. Through a mixed-method approach, the researchers collected data both quantitatively and qualitatively using questionnaires and interviews. As many as 513 students from 8 universities across Indonesia filled out the questionnaires, and 10 of them were interviewed to corroborate the findings. The quantitative data were converted into percentages, while the qualitative ones were analyzed using content analysis by categorizing them into themes, coding, and evaluating to find connections. The findings show that most students (80.5%) had positive attitudes towards their autonomy during English online learning, as indicated in their motivation to be self-reliant. Even so, this positive attitude did not imply satisfactory learning outcomes, for there were only 18.5% of the students who got an A in their English course. To make learner autonomy impact achievement, lecturers could take pedagogical measures, such as encouraging peer-tutoring, selecting interesting and easy-to-use online learning platforms, and implementing the Project-Based Learning model. These findings imply that teachers should be more thoughtful in selecting learning activities and settings that could stimulate the development of learner autonomy.
