Abstract:
Abstract The experience economy, that is, the creative and communicative turn in today’s social, cultural and economic structures, implies, as explained by Pine and Gilmore (1999), that consumption is embedded in a communicative format that conveys some kind of experience to the consumer. The consumer in turn becomes more than just a passive user - he or she becomes an active participant in the experiential/communicative design. As such, the mode of consumption in the experience economy is an interactive and play-centric one. And the computer game embodies the very core logic of this experience economy. In the experience economy, the focus is not on consumption of commodities and services, but on the consumer’s engagement in an experience that uses products, services and information as props and creative tools. Taking the user-centred mode of consumption as our point of departure, the present paper examines how the computer game format may be used as a new tool for communicating academic research to a broader audience. By applying some findings from a recent project, we will focus on the ways in which academic research can be communicated in a format that causes the recipient to take part in the process of communication and acquiring knowledge. This opens up new opportunities as well as challenges. On the one hand, communication of academic research is provided with new types of involvement, as the focus is not only on knowledge as content, but also on knowledge as activity. On the other hand, questions are raised here concerning what kind of knowledge is actually communicated/created in the process of active participation.

The heat transfer enhancement in cooling passages with dimpled (concavity imprinted) surface can be effective for use in heat exchangers and various hot section components (nozzle, blade, combustor liner, etc.), as it provides comparable heat transfer coefficients with considerably less pressure loss relative to protruding ribs. Heat transfer coefficients and friction factors were experimentally investigated in rectangular channels which had concavities (dimples) on one wall. The heat transfer coefficients were measured using a transient thermochromic liquid crystal technique. Relative channel heights H/d of 0.37, 0.74, 1.11, and 1.49 were investigated in a Reynolds number range from 12,000 to 60,000. The heat transfer enhancement NuHD on the dimpled wall was approximately constant at a value of 2.1 times that Nusm of a smooth channel over 0.37⩽H/d/⩽1.49 in the thermally developed region. The heat transfer enhancement ratio Nu¯HD/Nusm was invariant with Reynolds number. The friction factors (f) in the aerodynamically fully developed region were consistently measured to be around 0.0412 (only 1.6 to 2.0 times that of a smooth channel). The aerodynamic entry length was comparable to that of a typical turbulent flow xo/Dh=20, unlike the thermal entry length on dimpled surface which was much shorter xo/Dh<9.8. The thermal performance Nu¯HD/Nusm/f/fsm1/3≅1.75 of dimpled surface was superior to that 1.16<NuHD/Nusm/f/fsm1/3<1.60 of continuous ribs, demonstrating that the heat transfer enhancement with concavities can be achieved with a relatively low-pressure penalty. Neither the heat transfer coefficient distribution nor the friction factor exhibited a detectable effect of the channel height within the studied relative height range 0.37⩽H/d⩽1.49.[S0742-4795(00)02802-7]

Abstract:
This research discusses the work of karawitan pakeliran in a Pakeliran Sandosa with story Kembang Kudhup Pupus, which is explored through the basic aesthetic perspective of pakeliran, namely the concept of nuksma and respectively. The purpose of this discussion is to understand the extent to which an element of performing karawitan pakeliran can determine the achievement of an aesthetic puppet show. The results of the analysis show that the work of karawitan pakeliran in Pakeliran Sandosa Lakon Kembang Kudhup Pupus can be understood to reach the aesthetic level of pakeliran respectively. This can be seen through the creation of accuracy, harmony, and appropriateness between the composition of the performance karawitan pakeliran including gendhing and tembang to the needs of the events of the play and the inner atmosphere experienced by the puppet. As for the achievement of the aesthetics of pakeliran nuksma which is able to motivate the effect of catharsis for the admirer in the framework of karawitan pakeliran can be felt through the pattern of melody and gendhing songs and songs arranged in such a way; by paying attention to the compatibility between vocal techniques, beats, and musical graphic arrangements that are oriented to the dynamics of the gendhing sense.

Permendiknas implementation research on the appointment of pricipals is inseparable from the basic permendiknas namely: (1) permendiknas number 13 year 2007 about pricipal standar, (2) permendiknas number 28 tahun 2010 about teacher assignment as Head of school. This research discloses how the process of appointment of headmaster of SMP negeri in Dinas Education and culture of Siak Regency, is in accordance with the provisions set by the government in permendiknas number 28 year 2010. This implementation research isbased on metter and Horn theory and describe the findings using approach qualitative methods. Data obtained by interviuw, observation and document. Futher data are analyzed and performed continuously to complate. The results of the study note that the general requirements in administrative selection are not met well. Because three is still the age of principals who do not meet the provisions with the number 85%. This means that only 15% of the principals are appointed in accordance with the provisions of the first appointment process in office. Even 29% of headmaster who served in Siak district will now undergo more than 2 periods of duty. At the rank and class of principals also found 13% of principals who are currently still in rank/class IIIB. While on special requirenments found arround 65% of school principas in Siak Regency do not have a certificate of principal issued by LP2KS is a NUKS certificate. There are several factors that become obstacles in implementing permendiknas number 28 year 2010 in Siak Regency. Namale; (1) the SDK of siak Distric employees, especially the lack of education, (2) the cost of education and training to obtain NUKS certificate, (3) the role of the acceptability team in the process of placing the principal the carry out his duties as principal.

The waste accumulated in the past at the Nuclear Power Plant Leningrad has to be sorted and packed in an optimal way. In the area of waste treatment and management, the completeness and quality of direct monitoring are of the outmost importance for the validity of, and confidence in, both practicable waste management options and calculations of radiological impacts. Special monitoring systems are needed for this purpose. Consistent with the scale of work during the waste treatment procedures and the complexity of the plant data have to be collected from characteristic parts in various treatment stages. To combine all the information, a tracking procedure is needed during the waste treatment process to characterize the waste for interim and/or final disposal. RWE NUKEM GmbH has developed special customer-tailored systems which fulfill the specifications required by plant operation and by the authorities.

This paper focuses on research and innovation in the gas turbine industry. The production of nonaviation gas turbines was $3.6 billion in 1990, only 15% of total production. With improvement in thermal efficiency, increases in unit size, and the building of record breaking combined-cycle electric power plants fueled by cheap natural gas, nonaviation production zoomed to a euphoric high of $25.8 billion in 2001. The US Department of Energy announced last year the award of $130 million for 10 new projects to integrate hydrogen-burning gas turbines and turbine subsystems into integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) central power stations. Nuclear generation is also a zero-emissions technology, and Pebble Bed Modular Reactor Ltd, a South African company, is developing a gas turbine-nuclear reactor electric power plant, with participating companies that include Westinghouse, MHI of Japan, Nukem of Germany, and South Africa's Eskom.

Following a successful contract relationship between UKAEA and RWE NUKEM Ltd. to provide operational and decommissioning services for Building A59 (a post-irradiation examination facility) at UKAEA Winfrith, additional major tasks under the WOMAD (Winfrith Operations, Maintenance, and Decommissioning) Project were competitively won by RWE NUKEM. The WOMAD Project advances implementation of the overall environmental remediation mission for the UKAEA Winfrith site. This paper describes the four main parts of the WOMAD Project at Winfrith that are being conducted by RWE NUKEM. The WOMAD Project consists of the following tasks: • Care and maintenance of the two large nuclear reactors SGHWR and DRAGON. • Operation of Building A59 for 1 year followed by decommissioning and demolition. • Conditioning and immobilization of ∼350,000 litres of radioactive sludge in 500-litre drums followed by demolition of the sludge storage tanks. • Refurbishment of a storage facility and emplacement of the drummed waste. These tasks are performed by RWE NUKEM and the overall project is managed by UKAEA within the constraints imposed by the site licensee. The work is being implemented via a contract with RWE NUKEM using the New Engineering Contracts (NEC) suite of contracts (Options A and C) as established by the Institution of Civil Engineers. This framework was chosen because it facilitates good project management practices and encourages a team approach. This strategy has been taken to heart within the project and many joint initiatives are being used to develop an effective team that is working toward a common goal. In the relatively short time since contract award (March 2000), decommissioning in Building A59 is currently ahead of schedule and a number of technical hurdles have been overcome. The new facility for processing the external active sludge tank (EAST) wastes has been designed, planning permission has been obtained, and construction has begun. The first phase of safety submittals was also completed, and a Stage 2 Letter of Comfort was obtained from UK Nirex following a series of small-scale active development tasks. This presentation will feature current progress regarding schedule, cost, and quality aspects and will be an update on the position given to the IMechE Decommissioning Conference in 2001 [1] and the IBC Decommissioning Conference in 2002. Decommissioning and dismantling of nuclear sites is an increasing business in Europe and worldwide. New methods and instruments are demanded to perform it effectively and economically. NUKEM Technologies has accepted this challenge and has shown that there is a specific solution for each task. Nukem monitoring systems include Bridge Monitors for incoming radwaste, Sorting Monitors to separate low, intermediate and high level waste, Drum/Container Monitors mainly for outgoing waste, Monitors for Room Clearance Measurements and High Throughput Free Release Measurement Systems. The last monitor was designed for a 100% measurement of soil or building material with up to 50.000 kg waste throughput per hour.

According to the framework program of the Russian Federation released in 2010 it is planned to build up additional nuclear capacity of approximately 20 GWe. In addition, contracts were signed for several new-builds throughout the world. The related design efforts together with the restricted design capacities in Russia led Rosenergoatom (Client) and Atomstroyexport (Co-Client) to the set up of a so-called unified project “TOI”. “TOI” means translated “Technically Optimized reactor designed with Integrated databases”. NUKEM Technologies owned by Atomstroyexport was selected to develop the standardized technically optimized design for the treatment of the generated LLW and ILW. Special emphasis was made to reduce the waste volume for storage after treatment to below 50 m3 per year and unit. The selected treatment technologies compromise sorting, fragmentation, thermal treatment, compaction, evaporation, cementation etc. In 2010 NUKEM Technologies together with Atomenergoprojekt (Main Contractor) developed the technical concept for the treatment of liquid and solid LLW and ILW generated within the reactor as well as in the auxiliary buildings. In an iterative process the waste amounts generated and the respective treatment methods were discussed and agreed. The next step will be to further develop the design. The basic design (technical project) should be finalized until end of 2012.

Abstract:
The PBMR Fuel Plant (PFP), to be constructed at the Pelindaba site near Johannesburg will fuel the first South African Pebble Bed Modular Reactor. The qualification of the PBMR fuel shall be based on past experience with fuel which was produced in the German NUKEM/HOBEG plant and irradiated in the German AVR reactor. Accordingly, the PFP must produce the same fuel as the German plant did, and consequently, the design of the PFP has in essence to be a copy of the NUKEM/HOBEG plant. As a reminder this plant had been operated in accordance with the German regulatory rules which were defined in the years 1970/80. Since then, the requirements with regard to radiological protection, criticality safety and emission control have been significantly tightened, and of course the PFP must be designed in accordance with the most advanced international norms and standards. The implications which follow from these two potentially conflicting requirements, as defined above, are highlighted, and technical solutions are presented. Hence, the change from administrative criticality safety control to technical control, i.e. the application of safe geometry as far as possible, and the introduction of technical solutions for the remaining safe mass regime will be described. A lot of equipment in the Kernel area and in the recycling areas needed to be redesigned in safe geometry. The sensitive processes for Kernel Calcining, for the Coating and the Overcoating remain under safe mass regime, but the safety against criticality is completely independent from staff activities and based on technical measures. A new concept for safe storage of large volumes of Uranium-containing liquids has been developed. Also, the change from relatively open handling of Uranium to the application of containment enclosures wherever release of radioactivity into the room atmosphere is possible, will be addressed. This change required redesign of all process steps requiring the handling of dry Uranium oxides and uncoated Kernels. Finally, the introduction of processes for the near-total recycling of Uranium and chemicals, as well as for decontamination and purification of liquid and gaseous effluents will be presented.
