Texture means the orientation distribution of the many crystallites in a polycrystalline sample with respect to a reference system on the sample, for example the rolling direction in steel. Texture has to be distinguished from preferred orientation observed in laboratory-made powder samples. Preferred orientation is just a nuissance in the experiment and must be corrected in the ensuing analysis, for example by the formula given by March and published by Dollase Preferred orientation we find commonly in samples containing plate-like crystal flakes. This is again to be distinguished from a non-random particle distribution in the powder samples prepared for diffraction experiments. This effect is always present, also for example in NBS silicon, even if only to a. very small degree (see for example Will et. al). This paper focuses on Karamzin’s depiction, in Letters of a Russian Traveler, of Abbé Miolan’s failed hot air balloon flight in Paris in July 1784. After briefly tracing the history of aeromania in late eighteenth-century France and England, as well as its contemporary Russian reception, notably by Catherine the Great, the paper identifies Karamzin’s sources of information on the event and analyses the reasons why the Russian writer mentioned it in his travelogue. It demonstrates that Karamzin’s depiction of a physical experiment embodying European capacity for innovation in the late eighteenth century was not an expression of scientific curiosity. Instead, the young writer used the episode as a metaphor of social and political management, in order to reflect on the questions of social autonomy and the relation of the enlightened public with State power in both France and Russia. By depicting Miolan’s failed flight as a condemnable nuissance to public order, reminiscent of the revolutionary trouble he had witnessed during his journey through France, Karamzin showed his endorsement of Catherine’s conservative conception of the Enlightenment. By depicting how the French public sphere dealt with Miolan and possibly implicitly comparing it with the way Catherine had dealt with Radishchev, he nevertheless showed the superiority of self-regulation over political violence in managing the nobility’s growing longing for autonomy.

In this article the authors present virtual dashboards, their possibilities and use cases, focusing on infringements of public policy registered by the police of Lithuania. Events of particular types registered by the police are reliable indicators of crime. Appropriate analysis and visualization of event data reflect current situation and may lead to better management of crime. ArcGIS Online applications that allow creating interactive cartographic and analytical products are described in more detail–. The article provides information on the types of dashboards and their examples. Possibilities of cartographic dashboards in the field of crime geography are presented. Our dashboards represent crime event data registered by the police with a focus on infringements of public policy that have been analyzed and visualized using ArcGIS Online technologies. Ce travail a porté sur l'application du lagunage anaérobie pour le traitement primaire des eaux résiduaires urbaines sous climat méditerranéen. Il a été réalisé sur les deux lagunes anaérobies de l'Ecosite de Mèze (Hérault). D'un point de vue des performances épuratoires, les lagunes anaérobies constituent un traitement primaire satisfaisant avec des rendements de 55% pour les MES et 30% pour la DBO. Le taux d'accumulation des boues est de seulement 0. 017m3/EH. An. L'équilibre du métabolisme anaérobie est atteint après un an de fonctionnement. L'accumulation des boues se fait alors de façon saisonnière du fait de l'influence de la température sur la méthanogénèse. La production de biogaz (83% CH4) a pu être mesurée par des collecteurs à gaz mis au point pour cette étude. Le bilan du carbone montre que 74% du carbone organique épuré est converti en CH4, 13% en carbone inorganique dissous et 15% est stocké dans les boues. Toutefois, les lagunes anaérobies présentent un inconvénient majeur : les nuisances olfactives. Pour une quantification objective des odeurs, le taux d'émission de H2S ainsi que sa concentration dans l'atmosphère ont été mesurés. Ce travail a permis de définir un modèle prédictif capable de calculer ces deux paramètres à partir du pH, de la température et des sulfures totaux. La concentration de H2S dans l'atmosphère varie de 0,2 à 5,2 ppm, les fortes valeurs apparaissant en été. En hiver, l'émission est plus faible mais suffisante pour créer des nuisances olfactives dans le cas de proches habitations. Différentes solutions d'exploitation pour diminuer l'émission de H2S ont été testées à grande échelle : le chaulage, l'aération de surface et la recirculation. La recirculation d'un effluent issu d'une lagune facultative riche en algues apparaît comme une solution intéressante permettant à la fois l'augmentation du pH, du potentiel redox et la dilution des sulfures. Un procédé novateur a été testé à l'échelle pilote : une couverture biologique d'un lit de tourbe flottant à la surface de la lagune, permettant une réduction de l'émission de H2S de 96%.
