Full textThis Master’s Thesis is devoted to the consideration of corpus linguistics capabilities, investigation of the main problems encountered by technical translators while translating engineering texts and provision of an alternative solution for them to eliminate translation weaknesses, improve quality, and optimize translation itself. The paper defines features of a good quality translation and its requirements. In addition, the ways to overcome various translation difficulties at syntactic, semantic and structural levels are given in the form of recommended translation techniques which are classified according to specified criteria. The given research paper also provides a practical example of technical translation, the analysis of which gives wide opportunities for studying a corpus as an alternative solution for improving the quality of the translation. The thesis presents types and criteria for a good corpus compilation. Practical usage of a corpus with examples is suggested to outline its main functions and opportunities which can assist any translator in achieving the closest equivalency and adequate translation. The following paper shares experience of developing the Nuclear Corpus and its successful implementation while using the most user-friendly corpus managers. The paper also demonstrates the advantages of corpus application during translation compared to other modern technologies used in the process of translation. This research encourages the idea of further corpus development for the specific translation needs in order to make target texts equivalent at the highest level and meet expectations of the addressees. At the same time, the Master’s Thesis makes it possible to study the issue of a corpus further with the purpose to identify new useful opportunities it can provide to facilitate the work of a translator.

Full textThis thesis proposes a series of textometric multilingual information monitoring methods applied to thematic corpora (textometry is also called textual statistics or text data analysis). Two types of corpora are mobilized to create this work: a comparable corpus and a parallel corpus in which the textual data are extracted from the press and discourse of NGOs. The information source was retrieved from three countries in three different languages: English, French and Chinese. The two corpora were constructed on two topical issues concerning the environment and energy, with a focus on three concepts: energy, nuclear power and the EPR (European Pressurized Reactor or Evolutionary Power Reactor). After a brief review of the state of the art on business intelligence, information monitoring and textometry, we first set out the two chosen subjects – the environment and energy – and then the morphosyntactic features of the three languages in national and international contexts. The overall characteristics, similarities and peculiarities of these corpora are highlighted successively. The recounts and qualitative and quantitative analyses of the results were carried out using textometric tools, including factor analysis of correspondences, co-occurrences and polyco-occurrential networks, specificities of the hypergeometric model and repeated segments or map sections. Thereafter, bilingual bitextual information monitoring was applied to the same three concepts with the aim of elucidating how the comparable corpus and the parallel corpus can mutually help each other in a process of multilingual information monitoring, by restitution, forecasting and anticipation. We conclude our research by offering an analytical method called Objects-Features-Opening (OFO)

Full textThe decay heat is a dimensioning parameter at every step of the back-end nuclear cycle, from the reactor shutdown until the final storage of non-recoverable radioactive waste. Accurate control of the calculation of the decay heat and its uncertainty is essential for all the Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) in the french reactor infrastructure : PWR-UOx and PWR-MOx fuels, over a wide range of cooling times. The calculation of the decay heat and its uncertainty is performed at CEA with the french reference DARWIN2.3 package. To answer the ASN's guide number 28 relative to the safety demonstration for the first barrier resistance, DARWIN2.3 follows a verification, validation & uncertainty quantification process, in order to prove the control of the decay heat calculation and the associated uncertainty. To define the latter, the propagation of nuclear data covariances to the decay heat or the transposition of the DARWIN2.3's experimental validation are possible. The approach considered for the thesis consisted in studying the representativity of experiments coming from the DARWIN2.3's experimental validation or the literature with PWR fuels. These studies enabled the definition of a 'validity domain' with DARWIN2.3 for the decay heat calculation of PWR-UOx and MOx fuels. Then, the thesis consisted in identifying the gaps in the DARWIN2.3 'validity domain' for the PWR-UOx and PWR-MOx fuels and in identifying the decay heat experiments to be carried out to fill these gaps

Full textPML drives assembly of PMLNuclear Bodies (NBs) where it recruits hundreds of serendipitously-identified proteins, among which the key UBC9 E2-sumoylation enzyme. Interferons (through transcriptional PML induction) and arsenic or oxidative stress (through PML aggregation) dramatically enhance NB assembly. Here we directly investigated any role for PML in stress-responsive sumoylation in vivo. We demonstrate that PML very rapidly promotes arsenic/interferon-responsive sumoylation in mouse liver or mouse embryonic stem cells. Similarly, in Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL), where PML NBs are disorganized in the basal state, arsenic therapy promoted NB-reformation and broad SUMO-conjugation. Label free quantitative proteomic analysis of His10-SUMO2-conjugates revealed a comprehensive list of therapy-responsive sumoylated proteins, among which TRIM28 and other proteins belonging to the same epigenetic complex. PML NBs-regulated sumoylation also drives ubiquitination and proteasome-dependent degradation of some targets. Finally, by expressing conjugation-resistant SUMO2, we demonstrate that PML NBs promotes processive SUMO2/3 chain elongation, thus explaining PML role in partner degradation. Collectively, our findings highlight the key activity of NBs in stress-regulated sumoylation/degradation in vivo
Marchetti, Mara. "Elastic properties characterization of nuclear fuels under extreme conditions." Thesis, Montpellier, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017MONTS053/document.
Full textThe focus of the present thesis is the determination of the elastic properties of nuclear fuel using high frequency acoustic microscopy. The nuclear fuel is considered under three different conditions: during its normal life in reactor, after its discharge and disposal in interim or long-term storage and subsequently to its severe degradation caused by a nuclear accident. Measurements performed on irradiated fuels allowed to validate a law between the density of fresh and irradiated fuel and the Rayleigh wave velocity; the determination of the irradiated fuel porosity and matrix swelling in the broad burnup range 0-100 GWdt-1M; the development of an empirical model capable of predicting the evolution of Young's modulus versus burnup correcting also for the additives content (Gd2O3, CeO2); Young's modulus evolution due to alpha-decay damage as in-storage condition; first corium measurements. Moreover, several UO2 thermal parameters were calculated only by means of the Rayleigh wave velocity thanks to the link between thermal and elastic properties

Full textIn this work we study the extension of the mean-field approximation, given an initial condition, to the time evolution of a fermion-boson system. We use a time-dependent projection where we obtain kinetic-type equations for the set of one-body variables. First, we study the Jaynes-Cummings model which describes the interaction of the matter represented by the two-level system with the radiation represented by the normal mode of the quantized radiation field. We obtain the mean-field dynamics of the system and using the projection technique, we evaluate corrections to this mean-field description. Relevance of the Jaynes-Cummings model stems from the fact that, besides being soluble which possibilities compare our results with the exact solution, it can be seen as corresponding to the relativistic scalar plasma in zero spatial dimensions. Next, we study the relativistic scalar plasma. This quantum field theory describes a system of spin-1/2 fermions interacting through the exchange of scalar particles via a Yukawa-type interaction. In the study of the relativistic scalar plasma, we obtain the mean-field dynamics and from the static solution, we renormalize the theory. Finally, we study the small oscillations regime obtaining analytical solution for one-body variables. We have also examined the condition for the existence of bound-state in this case.

Plants are engaged in a continuous co-evolutionary struggle for dominance with their pathogens and the outcomes of these interactions are of particular importance to human activities, as they can have dramatic effects on agricultural systems (Dodds & Rathjen, 2010). Recently, the convergence of molecular studies of plant immunity and pathogen infection strategies is revealing an integrated picture of the plant pathogen interaction (Mukhtar et al., 2011) in which the pathogen effectors interaction converge onto highly connected subgroups of proteins, named hubs. A well-defined hub form plant immune system network corresponds to CSN5A protein, a catalytic subunit of the COP9 signalosome acting as a key regulator in several basic cellular processes. Consistent with the prediction that different effectors from different pathogens target similar connections in plant-pathogen interaction network, it has been shown, independently, that the protein C2 from geminivirus, a DNA virus that infects a wide variety of agronomic crops, interacts to CNS5A (Lozano- Duran et al, 2011). Additionally, it was shown that NIG and the immune receptor NIK, both targets of geminivírus NSP, interact to CSN5A (Machado, 2011; Mukhtar et al., 2011). Based on this information, it is expected that the hub CNS5A is a functional element in the geminivirus-host interaction network. Recently, it was reported that NIG, a cellular partner of CSN5A, also interacts with a unknown function protein, encoded by the locus AT2G41020 in yeast (Machado, 2011). As a possible component from geminivirus-host interaction network converging to CSN5A, AT2G41020 may interact directly or indirectly with virulence factors in defense response or compatibility. The objectives of this research involved biochemical characterization of the protein encoded by the locus AT2G4102, designated AtWWP1, and identification of its possible interactions with viral proteins and host factors. In silico analysis of tWWP1 predicted structure revealed the presence of two WW domains, and a C-terminal domain highly conserved between homologous in plant and animals. Furthermore, it has been shown that AtWWP1 is a nuclear protein capable of forming nuclear bodies via the conserved C-terminal domain. Coimmunoprecipitation and BiFC assays demonstrated that AtWWP1 interacts in vivo with the cytoplasmic protein NIG, redirecting it to nuclear bodies. In order to explore the formative activity of nuclear bodies AtWWP1, the interaction between AtWWP1 and a second protein partner AtMBD2 (methyl CG binding domaincontaining protein) was characterized in vivo. The ability to form nuclear bodies as interaction with AtMBD2 were mapped AtWWP1 occuring via its domain and C-terminal conserved, substantiating the argument that this region of AtWWP1 is responsible for the formation of nuclear bodies. Colocalization assays have shown that nuclear bodies contained in AtWWP1 are distinct from those formed by proteins involved in RNA splicing, but colocalized with nuclear bodies containing CDKC2. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that AtWWP1 does not bind to RNA, but exhibits a binding activity to DNA. These characteristics imply that AtWWP1 should be involved with basic nuclear functions. As a component of a functional hub in geminivirus-host interaction network, it is important to assess whether the viral infection would affect the nuclear bodies formed by AtWWP1.

Full textThe theoretical tool of choice for the microscopic description of all medium- and heavy-mass nuclei is the Energy Density Functional (EDF) method. Such a method relies on the concept of spontaneous symmetry breaking and restoration. In that sense, it is intrinsically a two-step approach. However, the symmetry restoration procedure is only well-defined in the particular case where the energy functional derives from a pseudo-potential. Thereby and as it has been recently shown, existing parameterizations of the energy functional provides unphysical results. Such a problem as well as the lack of predictive power call for developing new families of functionals. The first part of the present work is devoted to a study of the symmetry restoration problem and to the identification of properties that could constrain the analytic form of energy functionals that do not derive from a pseudo-potential. The second part deals with the construction of an energy functional that derives from a pseudo potential. The difficulties of such work are (i) the identification of the minimal complexity of the pseudo-potential necessary to obtain an energy functional that is flexible enough to provide high-quality EDF parameterizations, (ii) the tedious analytical derivation of the functional and of the associated one-body fields, (iii) the implementation of the latter in existing codes, and (iv) the development of an efficient fitting procedure. Eventually, it seems possible to generate a parameterization that strictly derives from a pseudo-potential and that provides as good results as state-of-the-art (quasi) bilinear functionals

Abstract: This work is focused in the study of two dimensional few-body physics in the universal regime, where the properties of the quantum system are independent on the details of the short-range interaction between particles (the two-body scatter- ing length is much larger than the range of the potential). We used the Faddeev decomposition to write the bound-state equations and we calculated the three-body binding energies and root-mean-square (rms) radii for a three-body system in two dimensions compounded by two identical bosons (A) and a different particle (B). For mass ratio mB/mA = 0.01 the system displays eight three-body bound states, which disappear one by one as the mass ratio is increased leaving only the ground and the first excited states. Energies and radii of the states for small mass ratios can be understood quantitatively through the Coulomb-like Born-Oppenheimer potential at small distances where the lowest-lying of these states are located. For large mass ratio the radii of the two remaining bound states are consistent with a more sym- metric three-body structure. We found that the radii diverge linearly at the mass ratio threshold where the three-body excited states disappear. The divergences are linear in the inverse energy deviations from the corresponding two-body thresholds

The possibility of generalizing gravity in 2+1 dimensions to include higher-derivative terms, thereby allowing for a dynamical theory, opens up a variety of new interesting questions. This is in great contrast with pure Einstein gravity which is a generally covariant theory that has no degrees of freedom - a peculiarity that, in a sense, renders it a little insipid and odorless. The research on gravity of particles moving in a plane, that is, living in flatland, within the context of higher-derivative gravity, leads to novel and interesting effects. For instance, the generation of gravity, antigravity, and gravitational shielding by the interaction of massive scalar bosons via a graviton exchange. In addition, the gravitational deffection angle of a photon, unlike that of Einstein gravity, is dependent of the impact parameter. On the other hand, the great drawback to using linearized general relativity for describing a gravitating string is that this description leads to some unphysical results such as: (i) lack of a gravity force in the nonrelativistic limit; (ii) gravitational deffection independent of the impact parameter. Interesting enough, the effective cure for these pathologies is the replacement of linearized gravity by linearized higher-derivative gravity. We address these issues here

Full textIn case of severe nuclear accident, the loss of coolant leads to the formation of a high temperature liquid mixture (T>2500K) of nuclear fuel and structural materials inside the vessel. After the vessel failure, the corium could interact with the concrete of the reactor pit. The metallic phase inside the corium during corium-concrete interaction, changes the ablation processes and release H2 and CO. The aim of the PhD thesis was to study the kinetics and mechanisms of the liquid steel oxidation during corium-concrete interaction. In this way, the study was divided in three parts: with calculations at the thermodynamic equilibrium, with analytical experiments and with prototypical experiments. The results of oxidation analyses during prototypical experiments show that gases inside the concrete are not the only one source of oxidation and that another source outside the concrete have to participate to the oxidation mechanism. The analytical experiments and the thermodynamic approach show that the corium can oxidize the metallic phase whereas the concrete oxides cannot. The oxidation mechanism of liquid steel is based on high chromium and iron oxidation leading to their depletion. Oxidation of nickel does not occur, it would be mainly evaporated according to the thermodynamic calculations. Thanks to the kinetic study, the rates of the liquid steel oxidation by O2 et CO2 have been found and a phenomenological model have been proposed to estimate the steel oxidation during the prototypical experiments

Full textThis thesis project takes part in the development of the multiparticle-multihole configuration mixing method aiming to describe the structure of atomic nuclei. Based on a double variational principle, this approach allows to determine the expansion coefficients of the wave function and the single-particle states at the same time. In this work we apply for the first time the fully self-consistent formalism of the mp-mh method to the description of a few p- and sd-shell nuclei, using the D1S Gogny interaction.A first study of the 12C nucleus is performed in order to test the doubly iterative convergence procedure when different types of truncation criteria are applied to select the many-body configurations included in the wave-function. A detailed analysis of the effect caused by the orbital optimization is conducted. In particular, its impact on the one-body density and on the fragmentation of the ground state wave function is analyzed.A systematic study of sd-shell nuclei is then performed. A careful analysis of the correlation content of the ground state is first conducted and observables quantities such as binding and separation energies, as well as charge radii are calculated and compared to experimental data. Satisfactory results are found. Spectroscopic properties are also studied. Excitation energies of low-lying states are found in very good agreement with experiment, and the study of magnetic dipole features are also satisfactory. Calculation of electric quadrupole properties, and in particular transition probabilities B(E2), however reveal a clear lack of collectivity of the wave function, due to the reduced valence space used to select the many-body configurations. Although the renormalization of orbitals leads to an important fragmentation of the ground state wave function, only little effect is observed on B(E2) probabilities. A tentative explanation is given. Finally, the structure description of nuclei provided by the multiparticle-multihole configuration mixing method is utilized to study reaction mechanisms such as electron and proton inelastic scattering on sd-shell nuclei. Although the results also suffer from the lack of collectivity, the experimental trends are well reproduced and improved by the orbital optimization

Full textThe atomic nucleus is intrinsically a complex system, composed of strongly correlated non-elementary fermions, sensitive to strong and electroweak interaction. The description of its internal structure is a major challenge of modern physics. In fact the complexity of the nucleon-nucleon interaction generates correlations which are responsible of the diversity of shapes that the nuclei can adopt. Indeed the nuclei can adopt either quasi-homogeneous shapes when nucleons are delocalized or shapes where spatially localized structure can emerge, namely nuclear clusters. This work is an extension of relativistic mean-fields approach (RMF), which allows an universal treatment of nuclear phenomenology. In a first time we will present the necessary formalism to construct such an approach starting with the fundamental interactions underlying nucleons dynamics within the nucleus. However this approach doesn't allow an accurate reproduction of experimental properties: a purely mean-field approach neglects to many correlations. Existing methods to treat both particle-hole (deformation), particle-particle (pairing) correlations will be discussed. First we will propose a new diagrammatic method, which take correlation into account in a perturbative way, the implementation of this approach using combinatory theory will be discussed. Then we will get back to a phenomenological treatment of particle-hole correlations, to focus on the impact of particle-particle. Formation of nucleonic pair will be discussed in the language of graph theory, allowing several formal simplifications and shed a different light on pairing. Pairing correlations will be at first treated using a relativistic Hartree-Bogolioubov approach. Nevertheless this formalism doesn't conserve particle number, and thus we will present a projective approach to restore it. The effect of this restoration will also be studied. Then to describe general nuclear deformation, several implementations and optimizations developed during this PhD will be presented. With this tools, clusterisation will be investigated as phenomenon emerging for certain class of correlations. Localization measure will be derived allowing a clearer understanding of cluster physics. The analysis of theses quantities makes possible a first unified description of cluster formation both for light nuclei (Neon) or for heavy alpha emitters (Polonium). Cluster emergence will be described as a quantum phase transition, an order parameter will be displayed and this formation will be characterized as a Mott transition. The influence of pairing correlations on cluster formation is studied and a detailed study of pairs spatial properties is performed for nuclei from several mass regions. Lastly a method allowing treatment of 4-body correlations (quartteting) is proposed to explain cluster emergence as alpha particle preformation

Full textThe current paradigm to describe the nuclear interaction is within the frame of Chiral Effective Field Theory (ₓEFT) which organizes contributions to observables in a serie of decreasing importance. It happens that the leading contribution already requires to solve exactly the Schrödinger equation with a particular Hamiltonian. The same requirement is at play in pionless EFT which considers only nucleonic degrees of freedom. Such calculations are numerically intractable for A-body observables with A >> 10. One must design an additional expansion and truncation for many-body observables. In this thesis, non-perturbative approximations on the basis self-consistent Green’s function (SCGF) and on many-body perturbation theory (MBPT) are considered together with a pionless EFT. The goal of the present thesis is to investigate, in such framework, the renormalization invariance of many-body observables computed in A-body sectors with A >> 10. Hopefully the lessons learnt can be extended to ₓEFT. Analysis of numerical calculations realized with a state-of-the-art SCGF code reveals a critical numerical approximation leading to renormalization dependent observables. A necessary fix is proposed and must be implemented before any calculations based on SCGF and EFT in the future. This emphasizes the criticality of numerical approximations for any calculation within a pionless EFT. At the same time, renormalization invariance of observables computed within MBPT is studied formally, opening the path to formulate the renormalization of a wide range of many-body truncation schemes in the future

Full textA good understanding and prediction capacity of neutron scattering cross sections is crucial to many nuclear technologies, among which all kinds of reactors based on fission process. For deformed nuclei, the computation of scattering observables for the elastic channel and the first, low-lying excited states requires coupled channel calculations. Local, phenomenological optical and macroscopic transition potentials are the most commonly used in coupled channel analyses, but their accuracy outside of their fitting range remains unpredictable. Microscopic approaches are being developed in order to improve prediction power and solve the extrapolation issue. Potentials obtained microscopically are nonlocal, and recent studies have emphasized the importance of treating explicitly this nonlocality, without using a localization procedure. Our goal in the present work is to study in a quantum framework with no adjustable parameter, the impact of the nonlocality of potentials on scattering observables of nucleon-nucleus reactions. To achieve this we study neutron scattering with the Melbourne G matrix, which represents the interaction between the projectile and one nucleon of the target, and we describe the target’s structure using the RPA for our first applications to ⁹⁰Zr. In order to be able to study also deformed nuclei, we do our study in the coupled channel framework. The first part of this paper is dedicated to the derivation in a unique, consistent scope of coupled equations for nucleon-nucleus scattering and of the potentials obtained with the Melbourne G matrix and RPA structure input. Secondly, we describe the codes which we wrote during this Ph.D. project: MINOLOP for the computation of microscopic potentials using the Melbourne G matrix and structure inputs given in terms of a 1-body density, and ECANOL for the resolution of coupled channel equations using nonlocal potentials as input. Eventually, we present our first applications using these two codes to study pre-equilibrium emissions due to 2-phonon excitations in ⁹⁰Zr

Full textIn the last decades, Anabolic-Androgenic Steroids (AAS) or Anabolic Steroids have been used mostly by elite athletes involved in sports that require strength and speed in order to improve their physical performance in competitions. Nevertheless, the abuse of these drugs has been also expanded to gym customers interested in body composition alterations seen by means of lean body mass increase and subcutaneous fat reduction. Few are known about AAS action in human brain, but there are evidences of changes in aggressive behavior, anxiety and depression. Thus, we aimed to study the neuronal loss by the use and abuse of AAS in mice. For doing so, we used 60 Swiss mice, 30 males and 30 females, proceeding from the Central Biotery of the Alfenas Federal University. A group of 20 animals was treated with testosterone cypionate (Deposteron®); another group of other 20 animals was treated with stanozolol (Winstrol Depot®); and a control group involving other 20 animals was treated with saline solution. All animals of the three groups were put under daily 15-minute swimming exercise during 30 days of treatment in an attempt to generate the same stress conditions that a physical exercise. After treatment, all animals were submitted to three behavioral tests: anxiety analysis, memory and recognition of objects and motor activity in the open field. Ending treatment and tests, the specimens were euthanized by halothane inhalation. Their brains were withdrawn and stored in 4% formaldehyde solution for three weeks. From each brain we took homotypic transverse section samples from its middle area to evaluate the areas proposed for our study. The results of estimated profile analyses of neuron cell bodies showed that there was a decrease of their number in pallidum of animals treated with Wintrol Depot®. Besides that, behavioral tests analyses confirmed that AAS administration in these animals caused anxiety and apathy and a decrease in the ability of recognizing objects; on the other hand, we do not observed change in motor ability nor in recent memory of animals so treated. Such results allowed to conclude that the abuse of AAS, without medical orientation, can lead us to cell degeneration, cerebral and cognitive activity loss and severe behavioral changes.

Full textSevere accidents of nuclear power plants are very unlikely to occur, yet it is necessary to be able to predict the evolution of the accident. In some situations, heat generation due to the disintegration of fission products could lead to the melting of the core. If the molten core falls on the floor of the building, it would provoke the melting of the concrete floor. The objective of the studies is to calculate the melting rate of the concrete floor. The work presented in this report is in the continuity of the segregation phase model of Seiler and Froment. It is based on the results of the ARTEMIS experiments. Firstly, we have developed a new model to simulate the transfers within the interfacial area. The new model explains how heat is transmitted to concrete: by conduction, convection and latent heat generation. Secondly, we have modified the coupled modelling of the pool and the interfacial area. We have developed two new models: the first one is the “liquidus model”, whose main hypothesis is that there is no resistance to solute transfer between the pool and the interfacial area. The second one is “the thermal resistance model”, whose main hypothesis is that there is no solute transfer and no dissolution of the interfacial area. The second model is able to predict the evolution of the pool temperature and the melting rate in the tests 3 and 4, with the condition that the obstruction time of the interfacial area is about 105 s. The model is not able to explain precisely the origin of this value. The liquidus model is able to predict correctly the evolution of the pool temperature and the melting rate in the tests 2 and 6

Full textIn Sodium-cooled Fast Reactors (SFR), hypothetical failure of the core cooling system or the plant protection system may lead to a severe accident scenario. In such a scenario, core materials (fuel and cladding) melt down generating a hot molten mixture called corium. This corium may interact with the coolant (liquid sodium) leading to Fuel Coolant Interaction (FCI) which can generate energetic events and hence jeopardize the reactor structures. The yield of these energetic events strongly depends on the state of the corium-sodium mixture prior to the energetic event. Therefore, the knowledge of the features of the mixture composed of three-phases (i.e., corium, liquid sodium, and sodium vapor) is crucial. The lack of knowledge on the phenomenology of the interaction emphasizes the need to study it with the help of experiments. PLINIUS-2, the future large-mass experimental platform of CEA Cadarache, will be dedicated to experiments aiming at understanding the interaction phenomenology of prototypic corium with coolant (sodium and water). The present research aims to develop a high-energy X-Ray imaging system for this facility, to visualize and better understand the corium-sodium interaction. An image-processing algorithm to analyze the three-phase repartition is also developed to contribute to the improvement of numerical modeling. This Ph.D. research has been executed in three steps. In the first step, a bibliographic study of the past experiments was carried out to better understand the physics of the interaction and the mechanism of fragmentation during corium-sodium interaction. This bibliographic study, along with a statistical analysis of the particle size distribution data of various experiments conducted in the past, revealed that the particles formed in these tests are extremely fine fragments with characteristic diameters smaller than 1 mm. Due to the small particle size and the detection limitations of corium fragments in sodium with our X-Ray system, clouds of particles were detected instead of individual particles. In the second phase, the simulation of clouds of corium particles followed by the designing of phantoms (3D mock-ups) representing the 3-phase medium was carried out. Simulations of clouds of corium fragments in liquid sodium and vapor were performed using the CEA Cadarache in-house tool MODHERATO. Based on the results obtained from the simulations, certain phantoms were designed to conduct some physical experiments. These phantoms representative of the FCI interaction zone were manufactured to experimentally evaluate the performance of the radioscopy system and to facilitate the development and calibration of the image processing software. The third step of this work was dedicated to performing experiments with the phantoms and analyzing the radiographic images by developing an image processing algorithm. Experiments were carried out with phantoms in several configurations with the X-Ray radiography system at the CEA Cadarache KROTOS facility. The radioscopic images obtained were treated by developing a new comprehensive image processing and analysis code called PICSEL to identify the three phases composing the medium. Further verification and validation of the PICSEL software were carried out on a test conducted between corium and water at the KROTOS facility under the Euro-Chinese project “ALISA”. Thus, in this Ph.D. research, an X-Ray imaging system was qualified to visualize the corium-sodium interaction in the future PLINIUS-2-FR facility. A qualitative analysis of the images produced by this system was also performed using the PICSEL software to better characterize the evolution of the three-phase mixture and understand the FCI phenomenon, knowledge of which is deemed essential to improve the safety and designs of future sodium-cooled fast reactors

This step is a chance to analyse low-energy spectroscopy (fewtens of MeV) of some nuclei, and more precisely (but not exclusively) the tin isotopic chain (Z=50).The second one relies on the improvement of the formalism to calculate multipolar electromagnetictransition operators, and a method to consolidate the computation of these operators, allowing toease the programming by unifying the code for different multipolarities. Finally, in order to overcomethe axial symmetry constraint, a new triaxial code has been developed. Its assets and developmentare presented, followed by the first batch of results
