Akram, Afzal Muhammad. "Risks in new product development (NPD) projects." Thesis, Cranfield University, 2017. http://dspace.lib.cranfield.ac.uk/handle/1826/12722.

Abstract:
New product development (NPD) is vulnerable to a wide variety of risks arising from within the firm or from the external environment. Existing categorizations of NPD project risks are partial or ill-defined and consequently there is no clear consensus among researchers and practitioners about what constitute NPD project risks. To address this gap, this thesis deploys a systematic literature methodology to inductively develop a comprehensive risk taxonomy from a review of 124 empirical studies. This taxonomy is then empirically validated through a survey capturing data from 263 NPD projects conducted by UK firms. The thesis further investigated the moderating effect of NPD project type (incremental or radical), firm size (SMEs and large firms) and industry sectors on the proposed risk taxonomy. Variation in the perceptions of NPD risk by different members of the team was explored as well. The findings revealed that the principal risk factors affecting NPD projects are technological rapidity risk, supply chain risk, lack of funding and resource risk. The risk profile of radical NPD projects differed to that of incremental projects. SMEs were more vulnerable to NPD project risks than large firms. Most risks influenced NPD projects equally across industrial sectors. Members of NPD project teams from different backgrounds or with different roles perceived risks differently. The proposed taxonomy and its subsequent empirical validation provides a comprehensive and robust taxonomy for identifying and managing risks associated with different types of NPD project conducted by firms of varying sizes from different industrial sectors.

Abstract:
Abstract In knowledge-based economy an increasing amount of work is conducted in projects in dispersed virtual organisational settings. Information is the raw material of virtual knowledge-based project work and therefore an understanding of information processing in virtual NPD (New Product Development) projects is essential. Information processing is particularly crucial for virtual NPD projects, which are typically implemented in demanding, turbulent and complex institutional settings, where they are subject to various challenges caused by cultural, organisational and human factors and where large amounts of information is processed. This multi-disciplinary study combines theories of information processing and trust and knowledge-based view of organisations. Particularly impersonal and interpersonal trust and barriers to information processing are investigated to study organisational capabilities and virtual communication competencies, which can enable information processing in virtual NPD projects. The case organisation was selected for the study because it has a lengthy history of multinational and multisite virtual way of work. Survey questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were employed to gather research data. Focus group interviews and document review were conducted to evaluate the results. Altogether, 11 leaders and 12 expert teams were interviewed at sites in the USA, Finland, China and Poland as well as 7 members from the operative management in USA and Finland. The results of this study enhance the understanding of organisational virtual capabilities and personal virtual communication competencies in virtual NPD project context. The findings indicate that trust is significant and it is clear that both impersonal and interpersonal trust in supporting information processing in projects, are needed. This study also confirms that each phase in virtual project lifecycle has different needs for information processing. Through recognizing virtual communication capabilities in company level and competencies at the personal level, it would be easier to manage information processing in virtual NPD projects. At the personal level, virtual communication competencies are seen to consist of cultural knowledge and sensitivity, company language skills, listening skills, accountability and credibility, mastery in using ICT and e-mail etiquette. The significance of virtual communication capabilities and competencies as part of knowledge management strategies will grow in the future. This dissertation addresses this challenge by providing new practical and theoretical perspectives to enable planning, measuring, training and rewarding from virtual communication competences, and them to be tested in similar constructions in ICT industry or in other organizations to enhance information processing in virtual projects
Tiivistelmä Erityisesti yhteiskuntamme tietointensiivisillä aloilla tuotekehitys tapahtuu yhä useammin globaaleissa projekteissa, joissa työskennellään organisatorisesti ja maantieteellisesti hajautuneesti, jolloin suuri osa viestinnästä on virtuaalista. Tutkittavalla organisaatiolla on pitkä historia kansainvälisillä markkinoilla virtuaalisena organisaationa toimimisesta.

Abstract:
As business, technologies, and products changes so quickly in the modern day business environment, the complexity of launching new products into global markets increases. Therefore, the significance of the new product development (NPD) concept is rising, according to researchers. This master thesis is based, through a preliminary literature review, on the assumption that traditional NPD frameworks have deficiencies today. This is because as a NPD process is an on-going process that is performed repeatedly, the importance of putting forth new considerations to the NPD based on multi-aspect industrial characteristics today is needed for a sustainable NPD framework. Therefore, this study will put forth a new multi-aspect NPD framework with emphasis on technological-, global collaboration-, and financial elements to target the literature gap that is claimed to exist. The process of the research methodology followed a deductive approach, with an explorative-, descriptive- and analytical study. The collected data was of qualitative type, through 12 semi-structured interviews. A total of six Swedish high-technological manufacturing firms were interviewed, four of which were for empirical purposes, and two for contextual understanding. The author came to the conclusion that various deviations were found in setting the multi-aspect NPD approach in contrast to traditional NPD frameworks. The significance of “Open Innovation” concepts was adamant as being the stepping-stone for idea generation, conceptualization, and strategic partnership that was not brought up by traditional literature. Openness in all elements of the multiple-aspect NPD framework setup in this study was imperative, as the empirical findings suggested that the business environment for high-technological industries shifted towards an increased technological- and financial convergence. During the latter stages, minor deviations were found, with emphasis on collaboration elements between the R&D-, production- and marketing divisions within the firms.

Abstract:
According to the strategic management, open innovation, and project management literatures, the notion that SMEs can enhance their innovation ability by developing knowledge resources has become important for achieving competitive advantage and long-term survival. Building upon theoretical work on the resource-based view, contingency theory and open innovation literature, this research examines how project complexity contribute to implementation of open innovation practices and involving external knowledge sources in different phases of new product development (NPD). The conceptual model was developed and aims to answer three important questions. RQ1: How complexity contributes in strategic decision for external collaboration in NPD process? RQ2: How external collaboration can improve internal capabilities and reduce the level of project complexity? RQ3: How collaboration with external knowledge source can improve new product performance? This study examines the four open innovation practices: Partnership, Seller/ Buyer agreement, Community and platform, and four knowledge resources: Suppliers, Customers, Universities and Competitors that impact a firm’s innovation process and affects the project performance. The model is tested with data collected from 125 new product development projects in 85 Spanish low knowledge intensive SMEs. The empirical result shows that project complexity contributed to the development of open innovation practices in new product development projects. The result specified that partnership as the dominant mode of open innovation practices will implements in different phases of the projects to reduces the level of project complexity and improve absorptive capacities of the companies. The results also found that to achieve different dimensions of the project performance, the companies have to use different configurational paths to involve external knowledge sources in each phase of NPD projects. Therefore, these findings conclude that implementing open innovation practices and involving external knowledge sources in innovation process, does not follow the same path, where project complexity, internal absorptive capacity and phases of the projects are the factors which make difference in this configurational models. This research has noteworthy implications for both researchers and practitioners by (1) Developing an integrated framework of project complexity in open innovation context. (2) Providing guidelines for low knowledge intensive SME’s in developing open innovation practices in their NPD projects. (3) The open innovation literature needs to consider empirically how knowledge resources involved in different phases of projects and enhance the project performance. (3) Indicating that the configuration of the different knowledge resources in different phases of NPD projects, leads to the different dimensions of the project performance (Speed, Cost, Market and product novelty) for SME in the low- technology industry. Limitations in current research may create avenues for future research in terms of number of companies, methodologies, open innovation modes, innovation types and time.

Abstract:
The fraudulent addition of active pharmaceutical compounds in nutritional supplements is, indeed, a worldwide problem. Often, it can be found several advertisements on various supplement packaging assuring weight loss, increased intellectual and/or physical capacity and sexual stimulation. These products may have been \'spiked\' with synthetic drugs containing formulations which are apparently harmless to users. In Brazil, the availability of data about adulteration of nutritional supplements is scarce. In the present work, an analytical method using gas chromatography coupled with a nitrogen-phosphorus detector (GC-NPD) was developed and applied for the detection, identification and quantification of undeclared stimulants and/or anorectic agents in food supplement labels, such as: caffeine, fenproporex, amfepramone, fenfluramine, sibutramine, phentermine, ephedrine, phenylpropanolamine, pseudoephedrine e 4- metilhexan -2- amine. The extraction/solubilization with methanol presented satisfactory results, emphasizing the use of low amount of sample, solvent and standards of analytes. After the development and validation, the method was applied in samples of nutritional supplements obtained from specialty stores in various parts of the state of São Paulo (n = 125). From the 125 nutritional supplement samples analyzed, 38 of them (30%) presented positive results for some of the substances of interest, among them sibutramine, caffeine and ephedrine according to the chosen methodology. The positive samples were subsequently analyzed qualitatively by LCMS / MS, in order to confirm the positive result obtained. The analytical technique employed provides selectivity, linearity, precision, accuracy, recovery and limits in accordance with the intended purpose. The sample preparation methods developed and validated to be simple, practical, efficient and differentiated by the low sample and solvent usage.

Abstract:
In  turbulent  environments,  the  infused  marketing  function  has  become  an  essential and natural part in the firms’ new product development (NPD). Some scholars define NPD as the transformation of a market opportunity into a product  as a result of the coupling of market assumptions with technological possibilities. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the role of market orientation in NPD, with the specific focus on how market orientation is carried out in NPD and how it affects NPD. This study is built  on  a  conceptual  framework  and  a  tool,  both  are  formed  from  literature.  The authors use the case study to conduct this research, and one company’s (Tylö’s) data is  gathered  through  the  semi-structured  interview.  Some  findings  are  obtained  from analysis: Firstly, market orientation contains two approaches, one is the market-driven approach and the other is the driving-market one, and firm could choose one of them according  to  the  new  product  features.  Secondly,  there  are  four  areas  in  market orientation, for each approach, the specific content in each area is different. Thirdly, the    four    areas    are    identifying    customers’    needs,    collecting    information, inter-functional  coordination  and  taking  action  and  they  move  on  sequentially.  In addition, two crucial factors-time and cost should be paid much attention in NPD.

Abstract:
A growing body of research is drawing attention to the importance of open innovation and the reasons firms should progressively switch to this paradigm. However, there is still some reluctance to embrace such approach to innovation. This study investigates the main factors impacting the selection of internal and external new product development in a US multinational company belonging to the semiconductor industry. The main factor found to impact the choice of internal and external innovation is the degree of radicalness of NPD projects. Hence, this is used as additional variable to the internal and external nature of projects to build a matrix, capable of describing the main factors managers take into account when deciding on the projects to undertake. Combining the internal or external and incremental or radical nature of NPD projects, for each category, it was possible to highlight the main dimensions determining the projects selection, namely the expected output and profitability, the purpose of the NPD process, the attention received by managers and the risk involved.

Abstract:
Field: Because of the faster development today, companies need to become more competitive and one way is through innovation. It requires an active standpoint and one way to achieve this is through innovation processes. Another competitive tool that is becoming increasingly important is design. These two concepts can be broken down into a number of factors and can be viewed from several perspectives. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to understand similarities and differences between innovation and design processes, and to see how they can complement each other. Method: We have used a qualitative method and have conducted interviews with three different companies. These three companies have then been analyzed and compared with theory and with each other. Theories in each field have also been compared with each other. Conclusions: We have come to the conclusion that innovation and design processes can be viewed as different levels. Innovation processes are more general and about the entire organization and design processes are rather more detailed on product development. The design process can therefore also be said to be part of the innovation process, a tool. We also saw that there were nine factors in practice that were important to the innovation process, namely to foster innovation in the organizational culture, supportive leadership, staff involvement and engagement, project-based innovation, multidisciplinary teams, good communication, customer involvement, business intelligence and evaluation / reflection. Based on these findings, we created our own model, inspired by existing models.

Abstract:
aFor many years innovation has been an integral part of improvements to products and services. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have been known as innovation generators, and their importance is paramount for the growth of economy. And yet despite their great importance, there is still a lack of understanding about how SMEs and High-tech SMEs (HTSMEs) with complex products conduct their management of innovation of New Product Development (NPD). Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide a foundation for addressing the suggested gaps in the literature and to show that further research is needed in innovation management of NPD and how it is connected to HTSMEs. Renewable energy wind turbine sources and the potential growth they represent for SMEs was a factor in choosing this sector as the subject of this research. HTSMEs with creative ideas and innovations of complex products need to adequately manage product development. This recognises the organisation's practices and processes during NPD and the need for innovation management (IM) as a part of an organisation's capabilities in order to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage (SCA). The aim of this thesis is to explore and validate a major qualitative abductive methodology from the findings of 21 High-tech Small Medium Enterprises management in relation to complex wind turbine invention-innovation (creative destruction) practices and processes during the NPD. Analysis, synthesis, and conclusions from the findings of this study are interpreted and discussed in the context of the definition, concepts, characteristics, theoretical, and conceptual framework. Finally, implications for managerial practice offer a deeper understanding of how HTSME manage innovation practices and processes occur during NPD building a superior product and recommendations for further research that can be valuable to academics, practitioners, and other researchers who are seeking ideas for research topics are presented and discussed.

Chemically, \"ecstasy\" is 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), a synthetic compound with stimulant and hallucinogenic properties. Some MDMA analog substances such as 3,4-methylenedioxyethylamphetamine (MDEA), 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), methamphetamine and amphetamine have already been identified in \"ecstasy\" tablets. Caffeine and ephedrines are the most common adulterants also found. The aim of this paper is to describe the validation of an analytical method to quantify MDMA in \"ecstasy\" tablets and capsules. Gas chromatography with nitrogen/phosphorus detector was used in the method. Analog substances to MDMA and adulterant compounds were also identified. Samples from 25 lots of tablets seized in the city of São Paulo were analyzed. From that total, 21 showed only MDMA (84%) and just 1 of them presented MDMA plus caffeine (4%). MDMA total concentration in these samples had a variation between 30.9 and 92.7mg, resulting in an arithmetic average of 63mg.

Taheri, Saeed. "Lean Product Development process structure and its effect on the performance of NPD projects." Thesis, Nottingham Trent University, 2017. http://irep.ntu.ac.uk/id/eprint/33699/.

Full text
Abstract:
New product development (NPD) has a pivotal role in the industrial competition, and makes a basis for long‐term prosperity of companies. To survive in today's fast‐changing market environment, companies are always trying to improve the performance of their NPD projects, by implementing new approaches, such as Lean Product Development (LPD). Nevertheless, applying such approaches is not straightforward, mainly due to the high level of interdependency between development activities and the role of dynamic effects in the project performance. Understanding the combined effects of dynamic features, including feedback loops, time delays and nonlinear causal relationships, is the main step for achieving higher project performance. In this thesis, the dynamics of LPD process structure is investigated to find the ways it could affect the time, cost and quality performance of a development project. As there is no consensus about the definition of LPD among researchers in this filed, first through a comprehensive literature review different approaches to LPD are studied. Two major approaches for LPD are introduced based on the adaptation of lean manufacturing tools and techniques for optimizing NPD processes, or extracting LPD specific tools and techniques from Toyota Product Development System (TPDS). The second approach is proved to be more applicable, mainly due to fundamental differences between manufacturing and NPD environments, and the LPD process design based on TPDS is selected as the focal point for this research. The combination of Set‐Based approach to design and Concurrent Engineering in the form of SBCE is identified as the unique feature of LPD process structure which have been the topic of several researches in this field during past decade. Set‐based design approach calls for the higher number of iteration cycles at the front end of the projects, and is responsible for higher project effectiveness while increases the time and effort invested. On the other hand, concurrent engineering targets the project duration, and is an efficiency factor, but if not structured properly it could have an opposite effect through increasing the number of rework cycles. Although the performance of TPDS which is the best benchmark for LPD shows the positive effect of SBCE on the projects performance, the reasons behind it and the way through which two approaches could be structured to achieve the favourable results is not clear yet. In addition, while different types of new product development projects, based on VII their levels of complexity and innovation, are defined and executed in companies, it is not clear if SBCE approach has the same impact on all project types. To investigate the reasons behind the superiority of SBCE and its effects in different types of development projects the systems thinking approach is selected as the main research methodology to provide a holistic view on the development projects through looking on interdependencies between performance measures and process structure. System dynamics modelling is used as the research method, due to its capacity in modelling feedback loops and iteration and rework cycles, as underlying factors which determine the time, cost and quality performance in projects. The model is built based on verified structures for rework cycle and resource allocation as the platform for the model, and becomes more specific for the purpose of this research by adding structures related to the iteration cycles, number of initial concepts, and effect of project type. After passing the standard system dynamics validation tests, the model is calibrated using the historical project data from different projects in a major car manufacturing company. The calibrated and verified model then used for the policy analysis by defining different scenarios based on the number of iteration cycles during the conceptual design phase, number of initial concepts and the type of project. All types of projects show the improved performance metrics when moving towards the SBCE approach by increasing the number of iteration cycle. However, the degree of improvement for projects with higher levels of complexity is more profound. In addition, it is concluded for projects with the high level of complexity that increasing the number of initial concepts has the positive effect on all project performance measures. This research results have a methodological contribution by providing a method for rigorous representation of the impact of LPD process structure on projects performance through simulation. From the practical point of view, the developed model could be used by project managers as a guide for making informed decisions which guarantee the long‐term success of development projects.

McIntyre, James. "Enhancing the SME NPD process through customer focused design activities: a New Zealand case study." Massey University, 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/10179/1073.

Full text
Abstract:
Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) face enormous financial risk when embarking on a new product launch. SMEs are less likely to implement more formal risk minimization strategies for new product development (NPD) such as StageGate, often citing reasons of resource constraints or the more prevalent notion that “this stuff doesn’t apply to us”. Two key elements of any such risk minimization strategies are an early emphasis on benchmarking competitors and a thorough study of the attitudes and behaviours of potential customers. The SME’s investment of time and resource in early acquisition of this knowledge is a critical factor for success (Cooper 2001). Armed with this information, the SME is able to adopt a Customer Focused Design (CFD) strategy, whereby the product development effort is remains focused on the external customers wants and needs through all phases. SMEs that are able to satisfy these needs more effectively enjoy an obvious competitive advantage (Matzler and Hinterhuber 1998; Lüthje 2004). SMEs are often challenged by these tasks (Freel 2000; Larsen and Lewis 2007; Owens 2007). They may be overwhelmed by the prospect of expected costs, lack of expertise, and financial pressures to rush to market. Too often the more conventional path is chosen, whereby a solution is proposed, developed and tested in the market to “see if it sticks”. Such methodologies are less effective and subject the SME to increased financial risk. International studies of SMEs attitudes and behaviour towards NPD reveal common challenges of resource limitations, skills deficiencies and organizational issues (Xueli, Soutar et al. 2002; de Jong and Vermeulen 2006; Siu, Lin et al. 2006; Murphy and Ledwith 2007; Owens 2007). New Zealand firms are no exception, and are burdened with similar challenges as their international counterparts. This study aims to propose a simple framework for small firms who wish to acquire knowledge about their target markets and potential customers with limited time and resources. The framework enables SMEs to incorporate customer focused design principles into their product definition phase, and better orient themselves to the consumer marketplace. The study makes use of a New Zealand based case study to evaluate how the framework may be employed to identify quick and inexpensive efforts that can reproduce some elements of more sophisticated CFD and benchmarking methods. The obtained results are incorporated into a product design specification and embodied into a physical prototype to further illuminate the process. In addition to the primary area of study, prospects for new adjacent product lines and new potential markets for future development are also gained from the research.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to identify the suppliers’ involvement in innovation and New Product Development (NPD) of wind turbine manufacturing. In this thesis we analysed the sources of innovation and also explored the benefits that the companies derive when they involve the suppliers in the process of innovation and NPD. We present results from the study of 31 wind turbine producers across the globe including, small, medium and large companies. The conclusions are that most of the companies claimed that they involve suppliers in innovation and NPD. In the theory chapter, we have presented different techniques of suppliers’ involvement in innovation: to, with and by (Wintelism) the suppliers. Most of the companies use ‘’to’’ the suppliers technique when they involve suppliers in innovation. Improved quality, lower cost and utilising the suppliers’ knowledge & expertise are the main benefits that companies receive when they involve suppliers in innovation and product development.

Asatryan, Armen A. "Data mining of market information to assess at-home pork demand." Diss., Texas A&M University, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/1969.1/91.

Full text
Abstract:
This study analyzes the economic and demographic patterns of at-home pork consumption for representative individuals over 18 years of age in the United States. Three data sets purchased by the National Pork Board (NPB) are mined for this purpose: (1) National Eating Trends (NET) data from National Panel Diary (NPD) on individuals' intake and their demographic characteristics; (2) weekly retail prices for fresh meats and fresh pork cuts from FreshLook; and (3) weekly retail prices for processed pork products from A.C. Nielsen. Heckman sample selection models are used to find demographic, health, and attitudinal/lifestyle patterns of consumption of twelve fresh and processed pork products as well as beef, chicken, and seafood. In the fall, individuals have a higher probability of eating beef, chicken, pork tenderloin, and bacon, but a lower probability of eating fresh seafood, canned ham, and smoked ham relative to the spring. The New England region has the highest likelihood of eating fresh pork, beef, chicken, seafood, pork roasts, pork tenderloin, and pork hotdogs. Blacks, on average, eat more fresh and processed pork, chicken, pork sausage, bacon, and canned ham, but less beef relative to whites. Concern about serving food with fat is negatively related with the likelihood of eating processed pork, lunchmeat, ham, and bacon, but it is positively related with the likelihood of eating pork hotdogs. A three-stage selectivity-adjusted censored LA/AIDS model is developed and estimated to find demand-price relationships for: (1) fresh meats (pork, beef, chicken, and seafood) and (2) nine fresh and processed pork cuts. However, aggregate fresh meats are substitutes for each other in at-home market, but there are substantial complementarities between pork cuts. Pork sausage is the major competitor for the processed products, pork roasts and pork tenderloin, but a major complement for pork ribs. There is relatively week substitutability between pork and beef, and relatively strong substitutability between pork and chicken and between beef and chicken. This could suggest opportunities for some joint marketing efforts between pork and beef commodity interests. This information can be used as a guide for marketing strategists for targeting and promotion as well as for category management of the disaggregated pork products.

Abstract:
Hydrogen absorption in RFe2 Laves phases modifies strongly their magnetic properties. For a concentration x close to 4. 2, it was observed that the monoclinic deuteride YFe2Dx (γ phase) undergoes a first order magnetovolumic transition at TM0 =84 K which is linked to an itinerant electron metamagnetic effect. Moreover, a very large isotopic effect has been observed on this transition, with a strong increase of TM0 upon H for D substitution. One of the thesis objectives was to determine more precisely the parameters influencing this metamagnetic transition and this isotope effect. Neutron diffraction measurements on the deuteride YFe2Dx(γ) under pressure have shown that the volume decrease led to a lowering of TM0 until complete disappearance above P= 10 kbar. The Lu or Er for Y substitution has confirmed that the volume decrease lowers TM0 and shown that the isotopic effect can be decomposed into a volume and a quantum effects. The Tb for Y substitution, which leads to a strong increase of TM0, has shown that the influence of the Tb molecular field can be added to the two previous effects. The deuterium order-disorder transition near room leads to a symmetry lowering from cubic to a rhombohedral and then a monoclinic structure. The deuterium thermal desorption study, which occurs at high temperature, of RFe2Dx(γ) (R=Y, Tb) has shown the existence of several desorption peaks linked to several phases with different stabilities

Abstract:
Lung in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) are characterized by a progressive oxidative stress leading to inflammatory response, tissue injury and decreased respiratory capacities of CF patients. Our study was conducted to characterize oxidative stress-related damage in CF airway bronchial epithelial cells. We demonstrated an unexpected enhanced proteasome activity which contribute to degradation of the cell cycle inhibitor p21WAF1/CIP1, defective NF-B activation, and apoptosis delay. Moreover, by the use of two drugs currently in phase I clinical trials, the phenylbutyrate (4-PBA) and the curcumin, we demonstrated the ability of 4-PBA to inhibit proteasome activity and NF-B activation, and the capacity of curcumin to induce cell apoptosis. Taken together, our data point out the interest of using proteasome inhibitors to protect lung epithelial cells from oxidative stress and inflammatory response in CF patients

Abstract:
The aim of the study is to highlight and discuss how teachers and parents of gifted students, with or without diagnosis, experience the cooperation between the school and the home of the students. To perform the study a qualitative interview method was used. Three parents and three teachers to gifted students with our without a diagnosis were interviewed. The theoretical perspective from which the study is based is Erikson's (2004) four typologies that describe the collaboration between home and school and Hargreaves (2001) social-cultural distances to analyze collaboration at a person level. In conclusion, the result of the study shows that the interaction between home and school is not completely without problems when the student is gifted with or without diagnosis. All Hargreave's distances are represented and it is for both parents and teachers that these were noticed. All principles except the user principle could be linked to the respondents. The factors that the study shows are favorable for collaboration between teachers and parents is knowledge from the school's side regarding NPD, and specificity, as well as individual's commitment for the student. Factors that can be seen as less favorable for collaboration are lack of time and money in school.

Abstract:
Även diagnosens betydelse i skolan avhandlas.
