Abstract:
During the Great War (World War I), the Austro‑Hungarian occupier divided Serbia into two occupation zones: the western, Austro‑Hungarian, and the eastern, Bulgarian. The occupation government sought to destroy the political and national self‑awareness of Serbians by launching its propaganda Belgrade newspaper („Beogradske novine”) after banning all domestic newspapers. Newspapers were published in the so‑called „Serbo‑Croatian” („srpsko‑hrvatski”) language, in Ijekavic and Latin, under the editorship of foreigners, i.e. German and Austro‑Hungarian subjects. Forms of the Zagreb (Croatian) variant of the Serb language were imposed through language editing. In the areas that belonged to the Bulgarian occupation zone, a similar program was implemented as in Austro‑Hungarian zone, only not in the direction of Croatization, but Bulgarianization of the Serbian population (banning the use of the Serb language and script, Serb books, Serb personal names, Serb fame, etc.). However, certain occupation methods from the First World War and earlier times, contained in the fight against the Serbs through the denial of the Serb language and culture, will continue to last in later periods in the Serb ethnic areas, including Serbia. This will continue, in the new political circumstances, to coincide in many ways with the Austro‑Hungarian occupation plans from the First World War. Thus, in the fight against Serb identity and national features, the pro‑Croatian government of the CPY (Comunnist Party of Yugoslavia) and the communist leader J. Broz Tito accepted solutions from the time of the Austro‑Hungarian occupation of the Western Balkans, which were directly harmful to the Serbs. However, the collapse of the communist/socialist Yugoslavia (The Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia) did not bring significant changes to the Serbs regarding the preservation of the national script (the Cyrillic alphabet), as well as the name Serb language („српски језик”).

Abstract:
Abstract Béla Bartók's and Albert Lord's capital work on folk songs of the Serbs and Croats (Serbo-Croatian Folk Songs, Texts and Transcriptions of 75 Folk Songs from the Milman Parry Collection and a Morphology of Serbo-Croatian Folk Melodies, New York: Columbia University Press, 1951) has been known for more than six decades to Serbian experts. Yet, in Serbia Bartók's contribution have remained insufficiently studied and valued by the time being, specially his methodology of formal analysis and precious conclusions about the principles of traditional melopoetic shaping, realized on that basis. The author of this paper presents Bartók's notions on the formal structure of Serbo-Croatian folk songs, and then highlights delayed and extremely negative reaction on Bartók's work, made by the cultural public in postwar Belgrade. Namely, on account of this book of Bartók, Stanislav Vinaver and Josip Slavenski, renowned representatives of the then expert public opinion, engaged in a fierce debate with the Hungarian writer József Debreceni in the Književne novine (literary magazine) during the 1950's, concerning Bartók's political pretensions to a part of the Yugoslav territory, which are supposedly distinguishable precisely from some of the conclusions from the said study. Today it transpires that in the delicate political climate of the time the great authorities of Vinaver and Slavenski had a direct bearing on the negative reception of the said Bartók's ethnomusicological work, which considerably slowed down the potential development of Serbian ethnomusicology, primarily its methodological bases.

When browsing through the recently published second book of the third volume of Serbian Encyclopaedia, which has been published since 2010, inevitable questions arise about the role and importance of each of those books and the entire project to the culture of the Serbian nation. By its basic characteristics, Serbian Encyclopaedia has the potential to open, awaken or refresh knowledge and memory of the facts about Serbian history, as well as of its up-to-dateness and perspective, i.e. to recover the national self-awareness that is so necessary to Serbs, which is not only one of the necessary prerequisites for national self-respect, but also a basic presupposition of survival and development.

Abstract:
The fall of the Berlin Wall led to the collapse of socialism and initiated the process of re-parliamentarization. This period was characterized by the establishment of multi-partyism, involving the revitalization or transformation of some old parties and the formation of new parties. Additionally, multi-party elections were organized. The path of political pluralization of SR Serbia started after the adoption of the position of the LC of Serbia at the XI Congress that "the League of Communists does not claim a political monopoly". Party pluralization and political processes in the territory of the Novi Pazar municipality followed the above processes and events. During 1990, committees of the most important republican parties (Socialist Party of Serbia, SPS, Serbian Renewal Movement, SPO, Union of Reform Forces of Yugoslavia, SRSJ, and others) were founded in the municipality, along with a branch of the most significant party from the SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Party of Democratic Action, SDA. The antagonism between the peoples at the federal level was transferred to the municipal area as well. Different views of socio-political events from the past in the municipality contributed to increased divisions. Due to the political turbulence in the country, the electorate primarily turned to parties with a national program. National parties often emphasized the perceived threat and humiliation of their own national groups in the preceding period. With such statements, parties rapidly carried out national homogenization and division among the local population, also profiting politically. Trust in uni-national parties was immediately evident. During the first multi-party elections, the SDA won convincingly. Its candidates managed to secure 90% of the votes from the local Muslim population. The Serbian population allocated its votes to the SPO and SPS, with the SPO winning the parliamentary elections. The tendency of trust in national parties continued in the following period. The Party of Democratic Action managed to maintain political primacy among the Muslim population of the municipality during this period. This is evidenced by the boycotts of the elections in 1992 and 1993 by the majority of Muslims. A smaller number of Muslims supported more moderate parties, such as the SRSJ. The Serbian population of the municipality, unlike the Muslim population, actively participated in all elections. Throughout the entire period, the political pluralization of the Serbs was noticeable. The Socialist Party of Serbia managed to assert itself over time as the most significant party among the local Serbian population. The elections showed that the politics of moderate and more conciliatory currents, such as SRSJ, experienced a debacle. Despite the antagonisms and the tense political climate, he elections took place in a tolerant manner without major incidents. The election results were accepted. An enviable amount of political culture was demonstrated among the local parties. Democratic elections have shown that it is possible to discuss very delicate and latent problems from the past, even in difficult times. With the de-escalation of the situation at the level of Yugoslavia and, subsequently, with the changes on October 5th, inter-ethnic relations in political advancements began to lose their importance. Gradually, tensions subsided. Political pluralization among the Muslim population of the municipality also contributed to this. Instead of national issues, the municipality's focus shifted to the daily life concerns of the local population and the inter-party relations of the Muslim parties.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Słowo redaktora serii Pierwsza naukowa pozycja wydana w serii Biblioteka Przekładów Literatur Słowiańskich pt. Od mobilności do interakcji. Dramat i teatr w Bośni i Hercegowinie, Czarnogórze, Chorwacji, Kosowie, Macedonii, Słowenii i Serbii nawiązuje do ubiegłorocznej dwutomowej publikacji polskich przekładów współczesnego dramatu chorwackiego zatytułowanej (Nie)tylko fragmenty. Języki publikacji: chorwacki, serbski i angielski. The paper illustrates the similarities and differences in the strategies applied by the Orthodox Slavs to keep a connection with their basic code of (auto)-identification (i.e. Orthodoxy), as well as with the cultural tradition which was related to it. Particularly, the author focuses on the Serbs of the Habsburg Empire and the Protestant minorities who lived within the Hungarian borders during the 18th century, who were forced to develop some specific cultural strategies in order to offset the unifying tendencies and proselyting policy of the local Catholic Church.

Abstract:
During the period of socialist Yugoslavia, the linguistic standard used in Bosnia and Herzegovina, one of the six republics constituting the multinational federation at the time, found itself on the periphery of linguists’ interest. Up until the mid-1960s, Bosnia and Herzegovina itself occupied only a loosely marginal position in the language policy field where the central positions had been granted to Croatian and Serbian linguists, i.e. their respective cultural institutions – Matica hrvatska (Zagreb) and Matica srpska (Novi sad), as per the agreements reached at the 1954 meeting in Novi Sad. This paper presents an analysis of the language policy context in the late 1960s and early 1970s in Bosnia and Herzegovina, when the government of the federal republic lent its support to the shaping of an autonomous language policy according to which the language standard of Bosnian-Herzegovinian Muslims, Serbs and Croats was identified as bosanskohercegovački standardnojezički izraz, „a distinct and specific aspect of the Serbo-Croatian i.e. Croato-Serbian standard language used in Bosnia and Herzegovina“. Special attention in the paper is paid to (polemical) texts by Croatian linguists concerning the language and variants used by Croats, Serbs, Montenegrins and Muslims in which the language standard in Bosnia and Herzegovina is explicitly taken into account. The analysis of texts published during the period shows, on the one hand, that Croatian linguists bemoan the eclipse of typical Croatian lexis in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s public use of language but are, on the other hand, disposed to identify the Bosnian-Herzegovinian language standard as a distinct variant.
