This thesis is mainly concerned with the problem of exponential convergence to equilibrium for open classical systems. We consider a model of a small Hamiltonian system coupled to a heat reservoir, which is described by the Generalized Langevin Equation (GLE) and we focus on a class of Markovian approximations to the GLE. The generator of these Markovian dynamics is an hypoelliptic non-selfadjoint operator. We look at the problem of exponential convergence to equilibrium by using and comparing three different approaches: classic ergodic theory, hypocoercivity theory and semiclassical analysis (singular space theory). In particular, we describe a technique to easily determine the spectrum of quadratic hypoelliptic operators (which are in general non-selfadjoint) and hence obtain the exact rate of convergence to equilibrium.

In this thesis we present some relevant theory, and then we rigorously investigate the existence intervals and the asymptotic behaviors of three cosmological models. The first model we investigate is based on the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metric, which is consistent with the cosmological principle. This is a common assumption which asserts that the universe is spatially homogeneous and isotropic. The second and third models are of Bianchi type I and Bianchi type II respectively, which are both anisotropic, but spatially homogeneous models. For all models we find that the existence interval is (0,∞), meaning that they all predict an origin of the universe for some past time, while guaranteeing the existence of the universe for all future times. Furthermore we prove that in all models the universe expands exponentially for times far in the future and that the non-isotropic solutions tend towards isotropic solutions forward in time. Differences were found in the asymptotic behavior backward in time, as the FLRW-model was shown to behave like the square root for times close to t=0, while the anisotropy in the Bianchi type I and Bianchi type II models became unbounded close to t=0. It was found that there were no differences in the asymptotic behavior between the two anisotropic models. Finally we investigated some interesting aspects specific for each model. For instance the behaviour of light-like curves were analysed in the FLRW-solutions and vacuum solutions were investigated in the Bianchi type I and Bianchi type II models.

We consider the problem of estimating the reliability of bundles constructed of several fibres, given a particular kind of censored data. The bundles consist of several fibres which have their own independent identically dis-tributed failure stresses (i.e.the forces that destroy the fibres). The force applied to a bundle is distributed between the fibres in the bundle, accord-ing to a load-sharing model. A bundle with these properties is an example of a load-sharing system. Ropes constructed of twisted threads, compos-ite materials constructed of parallel carbon fibres, and suspension cables constructed of steel wires are all examples of load-sharing systems. In par-ticular, we consider bundles where load-sharing is described by either the Equal load-sharing model or the more general Local load-sharing model. In order to estimate the cumulative distribution function of failure stresses of bundles, we need some observed data. This data is obtained either by testing bundles or by testing individual fibres. In this thesis, we develop several theoretical testing methods for both fibres and bundles, and related methods of statistical inference. Non-parametric and parametric estimators of the cumulative distribu-tion functions of failure stresses of fibres and bundles are obtained from different kinds of observed data. It is proved that most of these estimators are consistent, and that some are strongly consistent estimators. We show that resampling, in this case random sampling with replacement from sta-tistically independent portions of data, can be used to assess the accuracy of these estimators. Several numerical examples illustrate the behavior of the obtained estimators. These examples suggest that the obtained estimators usually perform well when the number of observations is moderate.

L'équation de transport, dans le régime fortement collisionnel admet une limite asymptotique de diffusion. Les discrétisations angulaires comme la méthode des ordonnées discrètes Sn où le développement tronqué en harmonique sphérique Pn préservent aussi cette limite de diffusion. Par conséquent, il est intéressant de construire pour de tels systèmes des méthodes de volumes finis sur maillages non structurés qui préservent cette limite de diffusion pour des grilles grossières. En effet, ces modèles peuvent être couplés avec des codes hydrodynamiques Lagrangiens qui génèrent des maillages très tordus. Pour commencer, on considère la discrétisation angulaire la plus simple de l'équation de transport appelée le modèle P1. Après une rapide introduction sur les méthodes 1D, on commence par modifier le schéma acoustique en dimension deux avec la méthode de Jin-Levermore. Le schéma ainsi obtenu n'est pas convergent dans le régime de diffusion car le schéma de diffusion valide n'est pas consistant sur maillages non structurés. Pour résoudre ce problème, on a proposé de nouvelles méthodes valides sur maillages non structurés. Ces méthodes sont basées sur un autre formalisme des méthodes de volumes finis ou les flux sont localisés aux interfaces, couplé avec la méthode de Jin-Levermore. On obtient deux schémas convergents qui dérivent sur les schémas asymptotic preserving 1D. Le schéma limite de diffusion obtenu est un nouveau schéma pour lequel on a donné une preuve de convergence. Dans un second temps, on a proposé une extension du travail réalisé pour le modèle P1 dans le cadre des discrétisations angulaires d'ordres élevés. Pour obtenir une discrétisation asymptotic preserving pour ces modèles on a utilisé une décomposition entre la discrétisation angulaire de premier ordre et les discrétisations angulaires d'ordres supérieurs. Enfin on a étudié la discrétisation du problème d'absorption/émission présent en transfert radiatif ainsi que la discrétisation du modèle non linéaire M1. L'approximation du modèle M1 est basé sur un couplage entre un schéma Lagrange+projection pour une reformulation du modèle M1 et la méthode de Jin-Levermore. La méthode numérique obtenue préserve la limite asymptotique, l'inégalité d'entropie et le principe du maximum associé au système sur maillages non structurés.

Ce travail de thèse est présenté sous la forme d’une collection d’articles publiés au cours du doctorat et est divisé en deux parties. La première partie concerne l’analyse de modèles non-linéaires de poutres inextensibles et extensibles, généralisant sur différents aspects les modèles de poutres d’Euler et de Timoshenko. Une étude théorique de l’existence et de l’unicité de solutions est complétée de simulations numériques mettant en évidence l’existence de solutions multiples avec l’augmentation de la force appliquée. Une étude numérique de la multiplicité de solutions d’un modèle de poutre extensible en grands déplacements est également effectuée. La deuxième partie concerne la justification formelle par méthodes asymptotiques d’un modèle de membrane original présentant une multiplicité de solutions pour des chargements particuliers, pouvant modéliser les plissements de certaines structures très minces sollicitées en cisaillement<br>The main theme of this thesis is the study of the mechanical behavior of thin slender structures in the nonlinear domain. This thesis work is presented in the form of a collection of articles published during the Ph.D. and is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the analysis of nonlinear models of inextensible and extensible beams, generalizing on different aspects the beam models of Euler and Timoshenko. A theoretical study of the existence and uniqueness of solutions is completed by numerical simulations highlighting the existence of multiple solutions with the increase of the applied force. A numerical study of the multiplicity of solutions of an extensible beam model in large displacements is also carried out. Les vibrations qui sont en général source de dérangement, d’usure et même destruction des machines et structures mécaniques doivent être contrôlées ou éliminées. Pour cette raison, la lutte contre les vibrations est devenue depuis des années un enjeu majeur pour les chercheurs de laboratoire et de développement dans l’industrie afin de développer des solutions efficaces contre ces problèmes. De nombreuses technologies ont donc été développées. Parmi ces technologies, les absorbeurs de vibration non linéaires présentent des performances importantes dans l’atténuation de vibration sur une large bande de fréquences. C’est dans ce contexte que cette thèse se focalise sur l’analyse et l’optimisation des absorbeurs de vibration non linéaires. L’objectif de cette thèse est d’analyser le comportement dynamique non linéaire des systèmes présentant des absorbeurs de vibration non linéaires. Pour cela, un modèle dynamique d’un système à deux degrés de liberté est développé mettant en équations le comportement non linéaire. La résolution des équations de mouvement est faite par la Méthode Asymptotique Numérique (MAN). La performance de cette méthode est montrée via une comparaison avec la méthode de Newton-Raphson. L’analyse des modes non linéaires du système ayant une non-linéarité cubique est faite par une formulation explicite des Fonctions de Réponse en Fréquence non linéaires (FRFs) et les Modes Normaux Non linéaires (MNNs). Un démonstrateur sur la base d’un système simple à deux degré de liberté est mis en place afin de recaler les modèles envisagés sur la base des résultats expérimentaux trouvés<br>Vibrations are usually undesired phenomena as they may cause discomfort, disturbance, damage, and sometimes destruction of machines and structures. It must be reduced or controlled or eliminated. For this reason, the vibrations attenuation became a major issue for scientists and researchers in order to develop effective solutions for these problems. Many technologies have been developed. Among these technologies, the nonlinear vibration absorbers have significant performance in the vibration attenuation over a wide frequency band. In this context, this thesis focuses on the analysis and optimization of nonlinear vibration absorbers. The objective of the thesis is to analyze the nonlinear dynamic behavior of systems with nonlinear vibration absorbers. For this, a dynamic model of a two degrees of freedom system is developed. The Asymptotic Numerical Method (ANM) is used to solve the nonlinear equations of motion. The performance of this method is shown via a comparison with the Newton-Raphson method. The nonlinear modal analysis system with cubic nonlinearity is made by an explicit formulation of the nonlinear Frequency Response Functions (FRFs) and Nonlinear Normal Modes (MNNs). Darbo tikslai: • ištirti netiesinio normalizavimo reikalingumą; • išanalizuoti netiesinio normalizavimo galimybes minimumų schemoje. Proofs of minima limit theorems are provided for cases, when linear normalization does not give non-degenerate limit distributions. In this cases, non-linear minima normalization is used. For a specific distribution, non-linear normalization functions are calculated, which are then used to get classic limit distributions for minima. Objectives: • Examine the necessity of non-linear normalization; • Analyze the possibilities for non-linear normalization in minimum pattern. Tasks: • Choose non-linear normalization function for a specific distribution; • Get classic limit distributions, where minima are normalized non-linearly; • Investigate the rate of convergence within the limit theorems; • Perform computer-based analysis of approximation errors.

Cette thèse est consacrée à l’étude mathématique des écoulements complexes dans des tubes minces. Les difficultés ne sont pas seulement liées à la rhéologie complexe, mais aussi aux conditions au bord sur la pression en entrée et en sortie (qui sont moins habituelles, mais réalistes du point de vue physique). Dans une première partie, des écoulements quasi-newtoniens stationnaires sont étudiés. D’abord, on utilise la petitesse du domaine pour montrer l’existence de la solution. Ensuite, on écrit un développement asymptotique de cette solution et on calcule formellement ses coefficients. Finalement, on justifie rigoureusement la validité de ce développement en démontrant des estimations d’erreur. Dans une deuxième partie, on considère des écoulements de fluides visco-élastiques décrits par la loi d’Oldroyd en régime stationnaire. Le modèle que nous avons choisi contient un terme diffusif en contrainte, dont l’ordre de grandeur est lié à la petitesse du domaine. Similairement à la première partie, un développement asymptotique est complètement justifié du point de vue mathématique. Dans le cas particulier de domaines axisymétriques une solution numérique est cherchée afin de la comparer à la solution obtenue via la technique asymptotique. Dans une dernière partie, on étudie les équations de Navier-Stokes non stationnaires. Un résultat d’existence des solutions fortes pour des données petites est démontré. Malheureusement, la méthode directe ne nous a pas permis pas d’avoir suffisamment de contrôle par rapport à la petitesse du domaine. Pour obtenir le résultat désiré, on utilise l’approche à la Kato, basé sur la théorie de C0 semigroupes<br>This thesis is devoted to the mathematical analysis of complex flows in thin pipes. The difficulties stem not only from the complex rheology, but also from the boundary conditions used involving the pressure (which are rather atypical, but realistic from a physical point of view).In the first part, we study stationary, quasi-newtonian flows. The existence of a solution is shown using the smallness of the domain as a key ingredient. Furthermore, an asymptotic expansion of this solution is sought and its coefficients are formally computed. Lastly, the validity of this expansion is rigorously justified by proving error estimates. In the second part, we consider visco-elastic flows represented by Oldroyd’s law in stationary regime. The model which we have chosen contains a diffusive stress term, whose order of magnitude is related to the smallness of the domain. Similarly to the first part, a complete asymptotic expansion in mathematically justified. For the special case of axisymmetric domains a numerical solution is sought in order to compare it against the one obtained via the asymptotic technique. In the last part we study the non stationary Navier-Stokes equations. An existence result of strong solutions for small initial data is proven. Unfortunately, the direct method – based on energy estimates – doesn’t give us an optimal control of the smallness constant with respect to the size of the domain. To obtain the desired result, we employ the method of C 0 semigroups of linear operators

La Partie I présente l’obtention du développement asymptotique topologique pour une classe d’équations elliptiques quasilinéaires. Un point central réside dans la possibilité de définir la variation de l’état direct à l’échelle 1 dans R^N. Après avoir défini un cadre fonctionnel approprié faisant intervenir les normes L^p et L^2, et avoir justifié la classe d’équations considérée, la méthode se poursuit par l’étude du comportement asymptotique de la solution du problème d’interface non linéaire dans R^N et par une mise en dualité appropriée des états direct et adjoint aux différentes étapes d’approximation.La Partie II traite d’estimations et de développements asymptotiques de p-capacités de condensateurs, dont l’obstacle est d’intérieur vide et de codimension > ou = 2. Après les résultats préliminaires, les condensateurs équidistants permettent de donner deux illustrations de l’anisotropie engendrée par un segment dans l’équation de p-Laplace, puis d’établir une minoration de la p-capacité N-dimensionnelle d’un segment, qui fait intervenir les p-capacités d’un point, respectivement en dimensions N et (N-1). Les condensateurs elliptiques permettent d’établir que le gradient topologique de la 2-capacité n’est pas un outil approprié pour distinguer les courbes des obstacles d’intérieur non vide en 2D<br>Part I deals with obtaining topological asymptotic expansions for a class of quasilinear elliptic equations. A key point lies in the ability to define the variation of the direct state at scale 1 in R^N. After setting up an appropriate functional framework involving both the L^p and the L^2 norms, and then justifying the chosen class of equations, the approach goes on with the study of the asymptotic behavior of the solution of the nonlinear interface problem in R^N and by setting up an adequate duality scheme between the direct and adjoint states at each step of approximation. Part II deals with estimates and asymptotic expansions of condenser p-capacities and focuses on obstacles with empty interiors and with codimensions > ou = 2. After preliminary results, equidistant condensers are introduced to point out the anisotropy caused by a segment in the p-Laplace equation, and to provide a lower bound to the N-dimensional condenser p-capacity of a segment, by means of the N-dimensional and of the (N-1)-dimensional condenser p-capacities of apoint. Introducing elliptical condensers, it turns out that the topological gradient of the 2-capacity is not an appropriate tool to separate curves and obstacles with nonempty interior in 2D

Dans cette thèse nous nous intéressons à une étude mathématique qualitative de problèmes issus d’écologie et de biologie évolutive. Nous étudions l’influence d’une dispersion non-locale pour une espèce biologique vivant dans un environnement fragmenté. Plus précisément, dans une première partie, nous établissons un critère de survie pour une espèce biologique dont la dynamique est régie par une équation de Fisher-KPP fractionnaire dans un domaine fragmenté avec des conditions extérieures de Dirichlet. Ce critère repose sur le signe de la valeur propre principale de sous-ensembles inclus dans le domaine. De plus, nous démontrons un résultat d’existence et d’unicité de la solution stationnaire d’une équation de Fisher-KPP dans des domaines fragmentés généraux appartenant à la classe des solutions positives, bornées et non-triviales. Dans le cas particulier d’un domaine périodique et fragmenté, nous établissons l’existence d’un phénomène d’invasion à vitesse exponentielle. Enfin, dans une seconde partie, nous considérons un modèle traitant d’une espèce biologique organisée phénotypiquement vivant dans un environnement fragmenté. Cette espèce est sujette à des mutations à petits effets phénotypiques ainsi qu’à une dispersion spatiale à la fois locale et non-locale. Nous démontrons l’émergence de traits phénotypiques dominants lorsque les mutations ont de petits effets<br>In this thesis, we are interested in a qualitative mathematical study of problems from ecology and evolutionary biology. We study the influence of a non-local dispersion for a biological species living in a patchy environment. More precisely, we first establish a criterion whose ensures the survival of a biological species which dynamics are driven by a fractional Fisher-KPP equation in a fragmented domain with Dirichlet exterior conditions. This criterion relies on the sign of the principal eigenvalue of subsets included in the fragmented domain. Moreover, we demonstrate an existence and uniqueness result of the stationary state of a Fisher-KPP equation in general patchy domains belonging to the class of non-negative, bounded and non-trivial solutions. In the particular case of a periodic and patchy domain, we establish the existence of invasion phenomena with exponential speed. Finally, we consider a model dealing with a phenotypically structured biological species living in a patchy environment. This species is subject to small mutations of the phenotype and to local and non-local spatial dispersion. We demonstrate the emergence of phenotypical dominant traits as the mutations become small

Nous présentons une classe de nouveaux modèles pour décrire les écoulements d’eau dans des aquifères peu profonds non confinés. Cette classe de modèles offre une alternative au modèle Richards 3d plus classique mais moins maniable. Leur dérivation est guidée par deux ambitions : le nouveau modèle doit d’une part être peu coûteux en temps de calcul et doit d’autre part donner des résultats pertinents à toute échelle de temps. Deux types d’écoulements dominants apparaissent dans ce contexte lorsque le rapport de l’épaisseur sur la longueur de l’aquifère est petit : le premier écoulement apparaît en temps court et est décrit par un problème vertical Richards 1d ; le second correspond aux grandes échelles de temps, la charge hydraulique est alors considérée comme indépendante de la variable verticale. Ces deux types d’écoulements sont donc modélisés de manière appropriée par le couplage d’une équation 1d pour la partie insaturée de l’aquifère et d’une équation 2d pour la partie saturée. Ces équations sont couplées au niveau d’une interface de profondeur h (t,x) en dessous de laquelle l’hypothèse de Dupuit est vérifiée. Le couplage est assuré de telle sorte que la masse globale du système soit conservée. Notons que la profondeur h (t,x) peut être une inconnue du problème ou être fixée artificiellement. Nous prouvons (dans le cas d’aquifères minces) en utilisant des développements asymptotiques que le problème Richards 3d se comporte de la même manière que les modèles de cette classe à toutes les échelles de temps considérées (courte, moyenne et grande). Nous décrivons un schéma numérique pour approcher le modèle couplé non linéaire. Une approximation par éléments finis est combinée à une méthode d’Euler implicite en temps. Ensuite, nous utilisons une reformulation de l’équation discrète en introduisant un opérateur de Dirichlet-to-Neumann pour gérer le couplage non linéaire en temps. Une méthode de point fixe est appliquée pour résoudre l’équation discrète reformulée. Le modèle couplé est testé numériquement dans différentes situations et pour différents types d’aquifère. Pour chacune des simulations, les résultats numériques obtenus sont en accord avec ceux obtenus à partir du problème de Richards original. Nous concluons notre travail par l’analyse mathématique d’un modèle couplant le modèle Richards 3d à celui de Dupuit. Il diffère du premier parce que nous ne supposons plus un écoulement purement vertical dans la frange capillaire supérieure. Ce modèle consiste donc en un système couplé non linéaire d’équation Richards 3d avec une équation parabolique non linéaire décrivant l’évolution de l’interface h (t,x) entre les zones saturées et non saturées de l’aquifère. Its derivation is guided by two ambitions : any new model should be low cost in computational time and should still give relevant results at every time scale.We thus keep track of two types of flow occurring in such a context and which are dominant when the ratio thickness over longitudinal length is small : the first one is dominant in a small time scale and is described by a vertical 1D-Richards problem ; the second one corresponds to a large time scale, when the evolution of the hydraulic head turns to become independent of the vertical variable. These two types of flow are appropriately modelled by, respectively, a one-dimensional and a two-dimensional system of PDEs boundary value problems. They are coupled along an artificial level below which the Dupuit hypothesis holds true (i.e. the vertical flow is instantaneous below the function h(t,x)) in away ensuring that the global model is mass conservative. Tuning the artificial level, which even can depend on an unknown of the problem, we browse the new class of models. We prove using asymptotic expansions that the 3DRichards problem and eachmodel of the class behaves the same at every considered time scale (short, intermediate and large) in thin aquifers. We describe a numerical scheme to approximate the non-linear coupled model. The standard Galerkin’s finite element approximation in space and Backward Euler method in time are used for discretization. Then we reformulate the discrete equation by introducing the Dirichlet to Neumann operator to handle the nonlinear coupling in time. The fixed point iterative method is applied to solve the reformulated discrete equation. We have examined the coupled model in different boundary conditions and different aquifers. In the every situations, the numerical results of the coupled models fit well with the original Richards problem. We conclude our work by the mathematical analysis of a model coupling 3D-Richards flow and Dupuit horizontal flow. It differs from the first one because we no longer assume a purely vertical flow in the upper capillary fringe. This model thus consists in a nonlinear coupled system of 3D-Richards equation with a nonlinear parabolic equation describing the evolution of the interface h(t,x) between the saturated and unsaturated zones of the aquifer. The main difficulties to be solved are those inherent to the 3D-Richards equation, the consideration of the free boundary h(t,x) and the presence of degenerate terms appearing in the diffusive terms and in the time derivatives

Il est divisé en deux parties :– Tout d’abord, nous présentons l’étude de certaines bornes inférieures de l’erreur quadratique moyenne liées à la localisation de sources dans le contexte champ proche. Nous utilisons la borne de Cramér-Rao pour l’étude de la zone asymptotique (notamment en terme de rapport signal à bruit avec un nombre fini d’observations). Puis, nous étudions d’autres bornes inférieures de l’erreur quadratique moyenne qui permettent de prévoir le phénomène de décrochement de l’erreur quadratique moyenne des estimateurs (on cite, par exemple, la borne de McAulay-Seidman, la borne de Hammersley-Chapman-Robbins et la borne de Fourier Cramér-Rao).– Deuxièmement, nous nous concentrons sur le concept du seuil statistique de résolution limite, c’est-à-dire, la distance minimale entre deux signaux noyés dans un bruit additif qui permet une ”correcte” estimation des paramètres. It can bedivided into two parts :- First, we present the study of some lower bounds on the mean square error related to the source localization in the near eld context. Using the Cramér-Rao bound, we investigate the mean square error of the maximum likelihood estimator w.r.t. the direction of arrivals in the so-called asymptotic area (i.e., for a high signal to noise ratio with a nite number of observations.) Then, using other bounds than the Cramér-Rao bound, we predict the threshold phenomena.- Secondly, we focus on the concept of the statistical resolution limit (i.e., the minimum distance between two closely spaced signals embedded in an additive noise that allows a correct resolvability/parameter estimation.) We de ne and derive the statistical resolution limit using the Cramér-Rao bound and the hypothesis test approaches for the mono-dimensional case. Then, we extend this concept to the multidimensional case. Différentes procédures sont alors proposées : d'abord le C-mix, un modèle de mélange de durées qui détecte automatiquement des sous-groupes suivant le risque d'apparition rapide de l'événement temporel étudié; puis la pénalité binarsity, une combinaison entre variation totale pondérée et contrainte linéaire par bloc qui s'applique sur l'encodage "one-hot'' de covariables continues ; et enfin la méthode binacox qui applique la pénalité précédente dans un modèle de Cox en tirant notamment parti de sa propriété de détection automatique de seuils dans les covariables continues. Pour chacune d'entre elles, les propriétés théoriques sont étudiées comme la convergence algorithmique ou l'établissement d'inégalités oracles non-asymptotiques, et une étude comparative avec l'état de l'art est menée sur des données simulées et réelles. Toutes les méthodes obtiennent de bons résultats prédictifs ainsi qu'en terme de complexité algorithmique, et chacune dispose d'atouts intéressants sur le plan de l'interprétabilité<br>This dissertation focuses on the introduction of new interpretable machine learning methods in a high-dimensional setting. We developped first the C-mix, a mixture model of censored durations that automatically detects subgroups based on the risk that the event under study occurs early; then the binarsity penalty combining a weighted total variation penalty with a linear constraint per block, that applies on one-hot encoding of continuous features; and finally the binacox model that uses the binarsity penalty within a Cox model to automatically detect cut-points in the continuous features. For each method, theoretical properties are established: algorithm convergence, non-asymptotic oracle inequalities, and comparison studies with state-of-the-art methods are carried out on both simulated and real data. All proposed methods give good results in terms of prediction performances, computing time, as well as interpretability abilities

Ma thèse porte sur l'étude des couches limites et de perturbations singulières (\textit{i.e.} des problèmes caractérisés par la présence d'un petit paramètre qui tend vers zéro) dans des conditions plus délicates que d'habitude, à savoir lorsque la solution limite n'est pas régulière. Je considère ainsi deux classes de problèmes réguliers associes à un laplacien et à un bilaplacien, et un problème non linéaire dérivé du problème de Plateau (surfaces minimas), pour lequels la fonction limite possède une singularité (discontinuité simple pour les premiers problèmes, dérivée normale infinie sur certaines parties de la frontière pour le second).\\ La première partie de cette thèse est consacrée à l'étude de deux modèles linéaires singuliers associés à des perturbations singulières pour des EDPs ayant une fonction source singulière. Ce type d'équations fait l'objet de plusieurs applications, par exemple les problèmes de flambement en élasticité, les tourbillons singuliers en mécanique des fluides, le problème de la charge critique pour une poutre ou une plaque élastoplastique, le problème du contrôle automatique de la trajectoire d'un mobile et le problème du bord arrière pour l'écoulement autour d'une aile. De manière classique, la présence d'un petit paramètre dans des équations aux dérivées partielles entraîne, dans certains cas, l'apparition d'une couche limite classique près du bord du domaine pour la solution dite régularisée. Cependant, si on considère en plus une fonction source discontinue (voire une distribution), on constate que de nouvelles couches limites apparaissent à l'intérieur du domaine; l'étude de celles-ci constitue le principal but de cette première partie. Dans la deuxième partie, on s'intéresse à l'étude du problème des surfaces minimales sur une couronne. Pour certaines classes de données au bord, ce problème n'admet pas de solution et sa solution faible dite ``généralisée'' admet une dérivée infinie. On introduit alors une méthode de régularisation elliptique qui entraîne une couche limite près du bord. Le résultat fondamental de cette partie consiste à donner explicitement une approximation pour cette solution régularisée.

This thesis consists of three parts: The first and second parts focus on long-time asymptotics of macroscopic and kinetic models respectively, while in the third part we connect these regimes using different scaling approaches. (1) Keller–Segel-type aggregation-diffusion equations: We study a Keller–Segel-type model with non-linear power-law diffusion and non-local particle interaction: Does the system admit equilibria? If yes, are they unique? Which solutions converge to them? Can we determine an explicit rate of convergence? To answer these questions, we make use of the special gradient flow structure of the equation and its associated free energy functional for which the overall convexity properties are not known. Special cases of this family of models have been investigated in previous works, and this part of the thesis represents a contribution towards a complete characterisation of the asymptotic behaviour of solutions. (2) Hypocoercivity techniques for a fibre lay-down model: We show existence and uniqueness of a stationary state for a kinetic Fokker-Planck equation modelling the fibre lay-down process in non-woven textile production. Further, we prove convergence to equilibrium with an explicit rate. This part of the thesis is an extension of previous work which considered the case of a stationary conveyor belt. Adding the movement of the belt, the global equilibrium state is not known explicitly and a more general hypocoercivity estimate is needed. Although we focus here on a particular application, this approach can be used for any equation with a similar structure as long as it can be understood as a certain perturbation of a system for which the global Gibbs state is known. (3) Scaling approaches for collective animal behaviour models: We study the multi-scale aspects of self-organised biological aggregations using various scaling techniques. Not many previous studies investigate how the dynamics of the initial models are preserved via these scalings. Firstly, we consider two scaling approaches (parabolic and grazing collision limits) that can be used to reduce a class of non-local kinetic 1D and 2D models to simpler models existing in the literature. Secondly, we investigate how some of the kinetic spatio-temporal patterns are preserved via these scalings using asymptotic preserving numerical methods.

Dans un grand éventail d'applications allant des sciences du climat à la finance, des événements extrêmes avec une probabilité loin d'être négligeable peuvent se produire, entraînant des conséquences désastreuses. Les extrêmes d'évènements climatiques tels que le vent, la température et les précipitations peuvent profondément affecter les êtres humains et les écosystèmes, entraînant des événements tels que des inondations, des glissements de terrain ou des vagues de chaleur. Lorsque l'emphase est mise sur l'étude de variables mesurées dans le temps sur un grand nombre de stations ayant une localisation spécifique, comme les variables mentionnées précédemment, le partitionnement de variables devient essentiel pour résumer et visualiser des tendances spatiales, ce qui est crucial dans l'étude des événements extrêmes. Cette thèse explore plusieurs modèles et méthodes pour partitionner les variables d'un processus stationnaire multivarié, en se concentrant sur les dépendances extrémales.Le chapitre 1 présente les concepts de modélisation de la dépendance via les copules, fondamentales pour la dépendance extrême. La notion de variation régulière est introduite, essentielle pour l'étude des extrêmes, et les processus faiblement dépendants sont abordés. Le partitionnement est discuté à travers les paradigmes de séparation-proximité et de partitionnement basé sur un modèle. Nous abordons aussi l'analyse non-asymptotique pour évaluer nos méthodes dans des dimensions fixes.Le chapitre 2 est à propos de la dépendance entre valeurs maximales est cruciale pour l'analyse des risques. Utilisant la fonction de copule de valeur extrême et le madogramme, ce chapitre se concentre sur l'estimation non paramétrique avec des données manquantes. Un théorème central limite fonctionnel est établi, démontrant la convergence du madogramme vers un processus Gaussien tendu. Des formules pour la variance asymptotique sont présentées, illustrées par une étude numérique.Le chapitre 3 propose les modèles asymptotiquement indépendants par blocs (AI-blocs) pour le partitionnement de variables, définissant des clusters basés sur l'indépendance des maxima. Un algorithme est introduit pour récupérer les clusters sans spécifier leur nombre à l'avance. L'efficacité théorique de l'algorithme est démontrée, et une méthode de sélection de paramètre basée sur les données est proposée. La méthode est appliquée à des données de neurosciences et environnementales, démontrant son potentiel.Le chapitre 4 adapte des techniques de partitionnement pour analyser des événements extrêmes composites sur des données climatiques européennes. Les sous-régions présentant une dépendance des extrêmes de précipitations et de vitesse du vent sont identifiées en utilisant des données ERA5 de 1979 à 2022. Les clusters obtenus sont spatialement concentrés, offrant une compréhension approfondie de la distribution régionale des extrêmes. Extremes in climatic events such as wind, temperature, and precipitation can profoundly impact humans and ecosystems, resulting in events like floods, landslides, or heatwaves. When the focus is on studying variables measured over time at numerous specific locations, such as the previously mentioned variables, partitioning these variables becomes essential to summarize and visualize spatial trends, which is crucial in the study of extreme events. This thesis explores several models and methods for partitioning the variables of a multivariate stationary process, focusing on extreme dependencies.Chapter 1 introduces the concepts of modeling dependence through copulas, which are fundamental for extreme dependence. The notion of regular variation, essential for studying extremes, is introduced, and weakly dependent processes are discussed. Partitioning is examined through the paradigms of separation-proximity and model-based clustering. Non-asymptotic analysis is also addressed to evaluate our methods in fixed dimensions.Chapter 2 study the dependence between maximum values is crucial for risk analysis. Using the extreme value copula function and the madogram, this chapter focuses on non-parametric estimation with missing data. A functional central limit theorem is established, demonstrating the convergence of the madogram to a tight Gaussian process. Formulas for asymptotic variance are presented, illustrated by a numerical study.Chapter 3 proposes asymptotically independent block (AI-block) models for partitioning variables, defining clusters based on the independence of maxima. An algorithm is introduced to recover clusters without specifying their number in advance. Theoretical efficiency of the algorithm is demonstrated, and a data-driven parameter selection method is proposed. The method is applied to neuroscience and environmental data, showcasing its potential.Chapter 4 adapts partitioning techniques to analyze composite extreme events in European climate data. Sub-regions with dependencies in extreme precipitation and wind speed are identified using ERA5 data from 1979 to 2022. cooperation leads to the increase of the overall welfare of those involved, and in other cases
cooperation may be to the detriment of the larger society. The presence of cooperation seems
natural if there is a direct bene t to individuals who choose to cooperate. However, in examples
of cooperation this bene t is not always immediately obvious. The so called prisoner's
dilemma is often used as an analogy to study cooperation and tease out the factors that lead
to cooperation.
In classical game theory, each player is assumed to be rational and hence typically seeks to
select his strategy in such a way as to maximise his own expected pay-o . In the case of the
classical prisoner's dilemma, this causes both players to defect. In evolutionary game theory,
on the other hand, it is assumed that players have limited knowledge of the game and only
bounded rationality. Games in evolutionary game theory are repeated in rounds and players are
a orded the opportunity to adapt and learn as this repetition occurs. Past studies have revealed
that cooperation may be a viable strategy if the prisoner's dilemma is placed in an evolutionary
context, where the evolutionary tness of a strategy is directly related to the pay-o achieved
by the player adopting the strategy. One of the mechanisms that promote the persistence of
cooperation in the evolutionary prisoner's dilemma is structured interaction between players.
A mathematical framework for representing the evolutionary prisoner's dilemma (ESPD) is developed
in this thesis. The mathematical framework is used to undertake an analytical approach
(i.e. avoiding the use of simulation) towards investigating the dynamics of the ESPD with a
path, cycle, plane grid or toroidal grid as underlying graph. The objective of this investigation
is to determine the likelihood of the emergence of persistent cooperation between players. The
ESPD on a path or a cycle admits two fundamentally di erent parameter regions; large values
of the temptation-to-defect parameter are not capable of inducing persistent cooperation, while
small values of this parameter allow for the possibility of persistent cooperation. It is found that
the likelihood of cooperation increases towards certainty as the order of the underlying graph
increases if the underlying graph is a path or cycle.
The state space of the ESPD with a plane or toroidal grid graph as underlying graph grows
very quickly as a function of the graph order. The automorphism classes of game states are
enumerated to determine exactly how fast the size of the state space of the game grows as a
function of the order of the underlying graph. Finally, the dynamics of the ESPD is investigated
for a grid graph as underlying graph (in cases where the state space is small enough) by means
of constructing the corresponding state graphs of the ESPD.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Daar is baie voorbeelde van samewerking in the gemeenskap en in die natuur. In sommige
gevalle lei samewerking tot 'n toename in die algehele welvaart van die betrokkenes, terwyl
samewerking in ander gevalle tot nadeel van die bre er gemeenskap mag wees. Die voorkoms van
samewerking blyk natuurlik te wees indien daar 'n direkte voordeel vir die individue is wat kies
om saam te werk. In voorbeelde van samewerking is s o 'n voordeel egter nie altyd voor-diehand-
liggend nie. Die sogenaamde prisoniersdilemma word dikwels as voorbeeld in die studie

Cette thèse est consacrée à l’étude de la stabilisation de certains systèmes distribués avec contrôle frontière de type dynamique. Nous considérons, d’abord, la stabilisation de l’équation de la poutre de Rayleigh avec un seul contrôle frontière dynamique moment ou force. Nous montrons que le système n’est pas uniformément (autrement dit exponentiellement) stable; mais par une méthode spectrale, nous établissons le taux polynomial optimal de décroissance de l’énergie du système. Ensuite, nous étudions la stabilisation indirecte de l’équation des ondes avec un amortissement frontière de type dynamique fractionnel. Nous montrons que le taux de décroissance de l’énergie dépend de la nature géométrique du domaine. En utilisant la méthode fréquentielle et une méthode spectrale, nous montrons la non stabilité exponentielle et nous établissons, plusieurs résultats de stabilité polynomiale. Enfin, nous considérons l’approximation de l’équation des ondes mono-dimensionnelle avec un seul amortissement frontière de type dynamique par un schéma de différence finie. Par une méthode spectrale, nous montrons que l’énergie discrétisée ne décroit pas uniformément (par rapport au pas du maillage) polynomialement vers zéro comme l’énergie du système continu. Nous introduisons, alors, un terme de viscosité numérique et nous montrons la décroissance polynomiale uniforme de l’énergie de notre schéma discret avec ce terme de viscosité<br>This thesis is devoted to the study of the stabilization of some distributed systems with dynamic boundary control. First, we consider the stabilization of the Rayleigh beam equation with only one dynamic boundary control moment or force. We show that the system is not uniformly (exponentially) stable. However, using a spectral method, we establish the optimal polynomial decay rate of the energy of the system. Next, we study the indirect stability of the wave equation with a fractional dynamic boundary control. We show that the decay rate of the energy depends on the nature of the geometry of the domain. Using a frequency approach and a spectral method, we show the non exponential stability of the system and we establish, different polynomial stability results. Dans ce travail, nous nous intéressons à l'inférence statistique dans deux modèles semi-paramétrique et non-paramétrique stratifiés de durées de vie censurées. Nous proposons tout d'abord une statistique de test d'ajustement pour le modèle de régression stratifié à risques proportionnels. Nous établissons sa distribution asymptotique sous l'hypothèse nulle d'un ajustement correct du modèle aux données. Nous étudions les propriétés numériques de ce test (niveau, puissance sous différentes alternatives) au moyen de simulations. Nous proposons ensuite une procédure permettant de stratifier le modèle à 1isques proportionnels suivant un seuil inconnu d'une variable de stratification. Cette procédure repose sur l'utilisation du test d'ajustement proposé précédemment. Une étude de simulation exhaustive est conduite pour évaluer les pe1fonnances de cette procédure. Dans une seconde partie de notre travail, nous nous intéressons à l'application du test du logrank stratifié dans un contexte de données manquantes (nous considérons la situation où les strates ne peuvent être observées chez tous les individus de l'échantillon). Nous construisons une version pondérée du logrank stratifié adaptée à ce problème. Nous en établissons la loi limite sous l'hypothèse nulle d'égalité des fonctions de risque dans les différents groupes. Les propriétés de cette nouvelle statistique de test sont évaluée au moyen de simulations. Le test est ensuite appliqué à un jeu de données médicales<br>In this work, we are interested in the statistical inference in two semi-parametric and non-parametric stratified models for censored data. We first propose a goodnessof- fit test statistic for the stratified proportional hazards regression model. We establish its asymptotic distribution under the null hypothesis of a correct fit of the model. We investigate the numerical properties of this test (level, power under different alternatives) by means of simulations. Then, we propose a procedure allowing to stratify the proportional hazards model according to an unknown threshold in a stratification variable. This procedure is based on the goodness-of-fit test proposed earlier. An exhaustive simulation study is conducted to evaluate the performance of this procedure. In a second part of our work, we consider the stratified logrank test in a context of missing data (we consider the situation where strata can not be observed on all sample individuals). We construct a weighted version of the stratified logrank, adapted to this problem. We establish its asymptotic distribution under the null hypothesis of equality of the hazards functions in the different groups. Cette thèse traite de la manière dont le musicien contrôle les régimes d'oscillation d'un instrument de la famille des cuivres. L'’association d’'un instrument et d'un musicien forme un système dynamique complexe. Le couplage non linéaire entre les lèvres et la colonne d’'air peut mener à un régime stationnaire, des auto-oscillations périodiques ou quasi-périodiques. De nombreux paramètres de contrôle permettent à un musicien de choisir le régime d’oscillation.Deux approches sont utilisées pour comprendre l’'émergence des régimes de l’'instrument et leur contrôle par le musicien. D'’une part, on étudie un modèle physique de cuivre, consistant en une valve à 1 degré de liberté couplée non linéairement à une expression modale de l’'impédance d’'entrée de l’'instrument. Les caractéristiques des régimes de ce modèle sont étudiés par analyse de stabilité linéaire, simulation numérique et équilibrage harmonique. L’'objectif est d'’estimer la capacité de ce modèle à reproduire le comportement de l’'instrument. Un outil expérimental est également développé pour mesurer simultanément des paramètres de contrôle employés par les musiciens et des variables de jeu.Les résultats améliorent la compréhension des régimes d’oscillation des cuivres. Les mesures expérimentales donnent les plages de variation des paramètres de jeu. Les résultats des méthodes d'’analyse se complètent, donnant une vision globale de l’'apparition des régimes oscillants du modèle et des informations détaillées sur certains points de fonctionnement. The nonlinear coupling between the lips and the resonator can lead to a stationary regime, periodic or quasi-periodic self-sustained oscillations. Through several control parameters, a musician can select the desired regime.Two approaches are developed to understand the emergence of the instrument oscillation regimes and how a musician controls it. A physical model of brass instrument is studied. It consists in a one-degree-of-freedom lip valve nonlinearly coupled to a modal fit of the input impedance of the instrument. The features of several oscillation regimes of this model are studied through linear stability analysis, numerical simulation and harmonic balance. Goals are the assessment of the ability of this model to reproduce the behavior of the modelled instrument. An experimental setup is also developed to measure simultaneously playing parameters used by a musician and instrument variables.Results provide a better understanding of the behavior of brass instrument oscillation regimes. Measurements provide ranges of the control parameters. Results of the analysis methods of the model are complementary. A global vision of the occurrence of certain oscillation regimes is provided, along with more detailed information for some operating points. Some specific playing situations are examined in detail, such as the trombone pedal note, the influence of a passive or active mute on the latter, and the nature of multiphonic sounds

Nous présentons une contribution autour de la modélisation des écoulements viscoplastiques. En vue d'applications réalistes telle que la simulation numérique des coulées de lave volcanique, le travail se concentre particulièrement sur les fluides complexes dont la rhéologie dépend fortement de grandeurs physiques telle que la température ou la concentration en particule. Nous développons un nouvel algorithme de résolution numérique des équations de Herschel-Bulkley combinant une méthode de Lagrangien augmenté à paramètre d'augmentation variable, une méthode des caractéristiques d'ordre 2 et une adaptation de maillage automatique. Sur des problèmes stationnaires ou en évolution tel que le problème test de la cavité entraînée, il apporte une solution efficace pour garantir à la fois une précision numérique élevée et un temps de calcul raisonnable. Cet algorithme est ensuite étendue et adapté au cas des rhéologies non-isothermes et aux suspensions. Concernant la simulation numérique des coulées de lave volcanique, nous détaillons une méthode de réduction par analyse asymptotique des équations de Herschel-Bulkley pour des écoulements de faible épaisseur sur une topographie arbitraire. Elle permet alors de décrire ces écoulements tridimensionnels de fluides viscoplastiques à surface libre par des équations bidimensionnelles surfaciques. Cette approche est ensuite étendue au cas non-isotherme en y ajoutant l'équation de la chaleur et des dépendances thermiques sur la rhéologie. Par intégration verticale de l'équation de la chaleur, on retrouve un modèle bidimensionnel. Le modèle non-isotherme est validé sur une expérience de dôme réalisée en laboratoire et une simulation numérique est réalisée autour d'une coulée qui a eu lieu sur le volcan du Piton de la Fournaise à la Réunion, en décembre 2010. La comparaison donne des résultats qui sont de notre point de vue satisfaisants et encourageants<br>We present a contribution about modeling of viscoplastic flows. For realistic applications such as numerical simulation of volcanic lava flows, the work focuses particularly on complex fluids whose rheology strongly depends on physical quantities such as temperature or the particle concentration. We develop a new numerical resolution algorithm of Herschel-Bulkley's equations combining an augmented Lagrangian method with variable augmentation parameter, a second order characteristic method and an auto-adaptive mesh procedure. On stationary or evolving problems as the lid-driven cavity flow benchmark, it provides an effective solution to ensure both a high numerical accuracy within a reasonable computing time. This algorithm is then extended and adapted to the case of non-isothermal rheological and suspensions. On the numerical simulation of volcanic lava flows, we describe a method of reducing by asymptotic analysis of the Herschel-Bulkley's equations for thin flows on arbitrary topography. It allows to describe the three-dimensional flows of viscoplastic fluid with free surface by bidimensional surface equations. This approach is then extended to the non-isothermal case by adding the heat equation and thermal dependencies on rheology. By vertical integration of the heat equation, a two-dimensional model is maintained . The non-isothermal model is validated on a laboratory experiment of dome and a numerical simulation is performed on a December 2010 Piton de la Fournaise lava flow from La Réunion island. In our view, the comparison gives satisfactory and encouraging results

Cette thèse concerne l'étude des interactions entre le plasma et la paroi d'un réacteur à fusion nucléaire de type tokamak. L'objectif est de proposer des méthodes de résolution des systèmes d'équations issus de modèles de plasma de bord. Nous nous sommes intéressés au traitement de deux difficultés qui apparaissent lors de la résolution numérique de ces modèles. La première difficulté est liée à la forme complexe de la paroi du tokamak. Pour cela, il a été choisi d'utiliser des méthodes de pénalisation volumique. Des tests numériques de plusieurs méthodes de pénalisation ont été réalisés sur un problème hyperbolique non linéaire avec un domaine 1D. Une de ces méthodes a été étendue à un système hyperbolique quasilinéaire avec bord non caractéristique et conditions aux limites maximales strictement dissipatives sur un domaine multidimensionnel : il est alors démontré que cette méthode de pénalisation ne génère pas de couche limite. La deuxième difficulté provient de la forte anisotropie du plasma, entre la direction parallèle aux lignes de champ magnétique et la direction radiale. Pour le potentiel électrique, cela se traduit par une résistivité parallèle très faible. Afin d'éviter les difficultés liées au fait que le problème devient mal posé quand la résistivité parallèle tend vers 0, nous avons utilisé des méthodes de type asymptotic-preserving (AP). Pour les problèmes non linéaires modélisant le potentiel électrique avec un domaine 1D et 2D, nous avons fait l'analyse théorique ainsi que des tests numériques pour deux méthodes AP. Des tests numériques sur le cas 1D ont permis une étude préliminaire du couplage entre les méthodes de pénalisation volumique et AP.

Ce travail s’inscrit dans un contexte de contrôle de la pollution des ressources en eau. On s’intéresse plus particulièrement à l’impact des engrais d’origine agricole sur la qualité de l’eau, en alliant modélisation économique et hydrogéologique. Pour cela, nous définissons d’une part un objectif économique spatio-temporel prenant en compte le compromis entre l’utilisation d’engrais et les coûts de dépollution. D’autre part, nous décrivons le transport du polluant dans le sous-sol (3D en espace) par un système non linéaire d’équations aux dérivées partielles couplées de type parabolique (réaction-convection-dispersion) et elliptique dans un domaine borné. Nous prouvons l’existence globale d’une solution au problème de contrôle optimal. L’unicité est quant à elle démontrée par analyse asymptotique pour le problème effectif tenant compte de la faible concentration d’engrais en sous-sol. Nous établissons les conditions nécessaires d’optimalité et le problème adjoint associé à notre modèle. Quelques exemples analytiques sont donnés et illustrés. Nous élargissons ces résultats au cadre de la théorie des jeux, où plusieurs joueurs interviennent, et prouvons notamment l’existence d’un équilibre de Nash. Enfin, ce travail est illustré par des résultats numériques (2D en espace), obtenus en couplant un schéma de type Éléments Finis Mixtes avec un algorithme de gradient conjugué non linéaire<br>This work is devoted to water ressources pollution control. We especially focus on the impact of agricultural fertilizer on water quality, by combining economical and hydrogeological modeling. We define, on one hand, the spatio-temporal objective, taking into account the trade off between fertilizer use and the cleaning costs. On an other hand, we describe the pollutant transport in the underground (3D in space) by a nonlinear system coupling a parabolic partial differential equation (reaction-advection-dispersion) with an elliptic one in a bounded domain. We prove the global existence of the solution of the optimal control problem. The uniqueness is proved by asymptotic analysis for the effective problem taking into account the low concentration fertilizer. We define the optimal necessary conditions and the adjoint problem associated to the model. Some analytical results are provided and illustrated. We extend these results within the framework of game theory, where several players are involved, and we prove the existence of a Nash equilibrium. Finally, this work is illustrated by numerical results (2D in space), produced by coupling a Mixed Finite Element scheme with a nonlinear conjugate gradient algorithm

Ce manuscrit se décompose en deux parties principales, associées à deux types d'applications assez différentes. Dans la première partie qui comprend les deux premiers chapitres, je m'intéresse à des systèmes issus de problèmes de contrôle et d'estimation en physique quantique; dans la deuxième partie (troisième chapitre du manuscrit), j'étudie la propagation d'ondes électriques le long des fils classiques dans un réseau de lignes de transmission et je considère certains problèmes d'estimation de paramètres. Dans le premier chapitre nous étudions le problème de la planification de trajectoires pour des systèmes quantiques fermés modélisés par des équations de Schrödinger bilinéaire. Nous démontrons alors des résultats de la stabilisation approchée pour le cas d'une boite quantique infinie ainsi que pour le cas d'un potentiel décroissant. Dans les deux cas, le manque de pré-compacité des trajectoires dans des espaces fonctionnels appropriés nous oblige à proposer des méthodes de Lyapunov qui évitent des phénomènes de perte de masse à l'infini. Dans le deuxième chapitre nous étudions le problème de stabilisation de systèmes quantiques en observation. Cette observation nécessite l'ouverture du système à son environnement. Les modèles pertinents pour l'évolution de ce type de systèmes sont des modèles stochastiques basés sur des trajectoires de Monte-Carlo quantiques. Nous étudions alors certains problèmes de stabilisation qui parviennent de vraies expériences physiques. Enfin, dans le chapitre 3 nous considérons le problème d'estimation de paramètres pour un réseau de fils de câblage électrique. Dans ce but, nous étudions deux approches : l'approche temporelle et l'approche fréquentielle. Dans l'approche temporelle, nous considérons le réseau le plus simple qui consiste d'une seule ligne de transmission et nous proposons un algorithme d'identification pour l'équation d'onde associé qui est basé sur l'application des observateurs asymptotiques. Dans l'approche fréquentielle, nous considérons un réseau plus compliqué de la forme étoile. Nous proposons alors des résultats d'identifiabilité basés sur des techniques de l'inverse scattering.

Cette thèse porte sur l’analyse mathématique de l’interaction d’un fluide non-visqueux avec des structures immergées. Plus précisément, elle est structurée autour de deux axes principaux. L’un d’eux est l’analyse asymptotique du mouvement d’une particule infinitésimale en milieu liquide. L’autre concerne l’interaction entre des vagues et une structure immergée. La première partie de la thèse repose sur l’analyse mathématique d’un système d’équations différentielles ordinaires non-linéaires d’ordre 2 modélisant le mouvement d’un solide infiniment petit dans un fluide incompressible en 2D. Les inconnues du modèle décrivent la position du solide, c’est-à-dire la position du centre de masse et son angle de rotation. Les équations proviennent de la deuxième loi de Newton avec un prototype de force de type Kutta-Joukowski. Plus précisément, nous étudions la dynamique de ce système lorsque l’inertie du solide tend vers 0. Les principaux outils utilisés sont des développements asymptotiques multiéchelles en temps. Pour la dynamique de la position du centre de masse, l’étude met en évidence des analogies avec le mouvement d’une particule chargée dans un champ électromagnétique et la théorie du centre-guide. En l’occurrence, le mouvement du centreguide est donné par une équation de point-vortex. La dynamique de l’angle est quant à elle donnée par une équation de pendule non-linéaire lentement modulée. Des régimes très différents se distinguent selon les données initiales. Pour de petites vitesses angulaires initiales la méthode de Poincaré-Lindstedt fait apparaitre une modulation des oscillations rapides, alors que pour de grandes vitesses angulaires initiales, un movement giratoire bien plus irrégulier est observé. C’est une conséquence particulière et assez spectaculaire de l’enchevêtrement des trajectoires homocliniques. La deuxième partie de la thèse porte sur le problème des vagues dans le cas où le domaine occupé par le fluide est à surface libre et avec un fond plat sur lequel un objet solide se translate horizontalement sous l’effet des forces de pression du fluide. Nous avons étudié deux systèmes asymptotiques qui décrivent le cas d’un fluide parfait incompressible en faible profondeur. Ceux-ci correspondent respectivement aux équations de Saint-Venant et de Boussinesq. Grâce à leur caractère bien-posé en temps long, les modèles traités permettent de prendre en compte certains effets de la mécanique du solide, comme les forces de friction, ainsi que les effets non-hydrostatiques. Notre analyse théorique a été complétée par des études numériques. Nous avons développé un schéma de différences finies d’ordre élevé et nous l’avons adapté à ce problème couplé afin de mettre en évidence les effets d’un solide (dont le mouvement est limité à des translations sur le fond) sur les vagues qui passent au dessus de lui. A la suite de ces travaux, nous avons souligné l’influence des forces de friction sur ce genre de systèmes couplés ainsi que sur le déferlement des vagues. Quant à l’amortissement dû aux effets hydrodynamiques, une vague ressemblance avec le phénomène de l’eau morte est mise en évidence<br>This PhD thesis concerns the mathematical analysis of the interaction of an inviscid fluid with immersed structures. More precisely it revolves around two main problems: one of them is the asymptotic analysis of an infinitesimal immersed particle, the other one being the interaction of water waves with a submerged solid object. Concerning the first problem, we studied a system of second order non-linear ODEs, serving as a toy model for the motion of a rigid body immersed in a two-dimensional perfect fluid. The unknowns of the model describe the position of the object, that is the position of its center of mass and the angle of rotation; the equations arise from Newton’s second law with the consideration of a Kutta-Joukowski type lift force. It concerns the detailed analysis of the dynamic of this system when the solid inertia tends to 0. For the evolution of the position of the solid’s center of mass, the study highlights similarities with the motion of a charged particle in an electromagnetic field and the wellknown “guiding center approximation”; it turns out that the motion of the corresponding guiding center is given by a point-vortex equation. As for the angular equation, its evolution is given by a slowly-in-time modulated non-linear pendulum equation. Based on the initial values of the system one can distinguish qualitatively different regimes: for small angular velocities, by the Poincaré-Lindstedt method one observes a modulation in the fast time-scale oscillatory terms, for larger angular velocities however erratic rotational motion is observed, a consequence of Melnikov’s observations on the presence of a homoclinic tangle. About the other problem, the Cauchy problem for the water waves equations is considered in a fluid domain which has a free surface on the upper vertical limit and a flat bottom on which a solid object moves horizontally, its motion determined by the pressure forces exerted by the fluid. Two shallow water asymptotic regimes are detailed, well-posedness results are obtained for both the Saint-Venant and the Boussinesq system coupled with Newton’s equation characterizing the solid motion. Using the particular structure of the coupling terms one is able to go beyond the standard scale for the existence time of solutions to the Boussinesq system with a moving bottom. An extended numerical study has also been carried out for the latter system. A high order finite difference scheme is developed, extending the convergence ratio of previous, staggered grid based models. The discretized solid mechanics are adapted to represent important features of the original model, such as the dissipation due to the friction term. We observed qualitative differences for the transformation of a passing wave over a moving solid object as compared to an immobile one. The movement of the solid not only influences wave attenuation but it affects the shoaling process as well as the wave breaking. The importance of the coefficient of friction is also highlighted, influencing qualitative and quantitative properties of the coupled system. Furthermore, we showed the hydrodynamic damping effects of the waves on the solid motion, reminiscent of the so-called dead water phenomenon

This thesis deals with the problem of the instantaneous frequency (IF) estimation of sinusoidal signals. This topic plays significant role in signal processing and communications.
Depending on the type of the signal, two major approaches are considered. For IF estimation of single-tone or digitally-modulated sinusoidal signals (like frequency shift keying signals) the approach of digital phase-locked loops (DPLLs) is considered, and this is Part-I of this thesis. For FM signals the approach of time-frequency analysis is considered, and this is Part-II of the thesis.
In part-I we have utilized sinusoidal DPLLs with non-uniform sampling scheme as this type is widely used in communication systems. The digital tanlock loop (DTL) has introduced significant advantages over other existing DPLLs. In the last 10 years many efforts have been made to improve DTL performance. However, this loop and all of its modifications utilizes Hilbert transformer (HT) to produce a signal-independent 90-degree phase-shifted version of the input signal. Hilbert transformer can be realized approximately using a finite impulse response (FIR) digital filter. This realization introduces further complexity in the loop in addition to approximations and frequency limitations on the input signal. We have tried to avoid practical difficulties associated with the conventional tanlock scheme while keeping its advantages. A time-delay is utilized in the tanlock scheme of DTL to produce a signal-dependent phase shift. This gave rise to the time-delay digital tanlock loop (TDTL). Fixed point theorems are used to analyze the behavior of the new loop. As such TDTL combines the two major approaches in DPLLs: the non-linear approach of sinusoidal DPLL based on fixed point analysis, and the linear tanlock approach based on the arctan phase detection. TDTL preserves the main advantages of the DTL despite its reduced structure. An application of TDTL in FSK demodulation is also considered. This idea of replacing HT by a time-delay may be of interest in other signal processing systems. Hence we have analyzed and compared the behaviors of the HT and the time-delay in the presence of additive Gaussian noise.
Based on the above analysis, the behavior of the first and second-order TDTLs has been analyzed in additive Gaussian noise.
Since DPLLs need time for locking, they are normally not efficient in tracking the continuously changing frequencies of non-stationary signals, i.e. signals with time-varying spectra. Nonstationary signals are of importance in synthetic and real life applications. An example is the frequency-modulated (FM) signals widely used in communication systems. Part-II of this thesis is dedicated for the IF estimation of non-stationary signals. For such signals the classical spectral techniques break down, due to the time-varying nature of their spectra, and more advanced techniques should be utilized.
For the purpose of instantaneous frequency estimation of non-stationary signals there are two major approaches: parametric and non-parametric. We chose the non-parametric approach which is based on time-frequency analysis. This approach is computationally less expensive and more effective in dealing with multicomponent signals, which are the main aim of this part of the thesis.
A time-frequency distribution (TFD) of a signal is a two-dimensional transformation of the signal to the time-frequency domain. Multicomponent signals can be identified by multiple energy peaks in the time-frequency domain. Many real life and synthetic signals are of multicomponent nature and there is little in the literature concerning IF estimation of such signals. This is why we have concentrated on multicomponent signals in Part-H.
An adaptive algorithm for IF estimation using the quadratic time-frequency distributions has been analyzed. A class of time-frequency distributions that are more suitable for this purpose has been proposed. The kernels of this class are time-only or one-dimensional, rather than the time-lag (two-dimensional) kernels. Hence this class has been named as the T -class. If the parameters of these TFDs are properly chosen, they are more efficient than the existing fixed-kernel TFDs in terms of resolution (energy concentration around the IF) and artifacts reduction. This dissertation has its focus on two different topics: 1. non-asymptotic analysis of polar codes as a new paradigm in error correcting codes with very promising features, and 2. network properties for wireless networks of practical size. In its first part, we investigate properties of polar codes that can be potentially useful in real-world applications. We start with analyzing the performance of finite-length polar codes over the binary erasure channel (BEC), while assuming belief propagation (BP) as the decoding method. We provide a stopping set analysis for the factor graph of polar codes, where we find the size of the minimum stopping set. Our analysis along with bit error rate (BER) simulations demonstrates that finite-length polar codes show superior error floor performance compared to the conventional capacity-approaching coding techniques. Motivated by good error floor performance, we introduce a modified version of BP decoding while employing a guessing algorithm to improve the BER performance. Each application may impose its own requirements on the code design. To be able to take full advantage of polar codes in practice, a fundamental question is which practical requirements are best served by polar codes. For example, we will see that polar codes are inherently well-suited for rate-compatible applications and they can provably achieve the capacity of time-varying channels with a simple rate-compatible design. This is in contrast to LDPC codes for which no provably universally capacity-achieving design is known except for the case of the erasure channel. This dissertation investigates different approaches to applications such as UEP, rate-compatible coding, and code design over parallel sub-channels (non-uniform error correction). Furthermore, we consider the idea of combining polar codes with other coding schemes, in order to take advantage of polar codes' best properties while avoiding their shortcomings. Particularly, we propose, and then analyze, a polar code-based concatenated scheme to be used in Optical Transport Networks (OTNs) as a potential real-world application. The second part of the dissertation is devoted to the analysis of finite wireless networks as a fundamental problem in the area of wireless networking. We refer to networks as being finite when the number of nodes is less than a few hundred. Today, due to the vast amount of literature on large-scale wireless networks, we have a fair understanding of the asymptotic behavior of such networks. However, in real world we have to face finite networks for which the asymptotic results cease to be valid. Here we study a model of wireless networks, represented by random geometric graphs. In order to address a wide class of the network's properties, we study the threshold phenomena. Being extensively studied in the asymptotic case, the threshold phenomena occurs when a graph theoretic property (such as connectivity) of the network experiences rapid changes over a specific interval of the underlying parameter. Here, we find an upper bound for the threshold width of finite line networks represented by random geometric graphs. These bounds hold for all monotone properties of such networks. We then turn our attention to an important non-monotone characteristic of line networks which is the Medium Access (MAC) layer capacity, defined as the maximum number of possible concurrent transmissions. Towards this goal, we provide a linear time algorithm which finds a maximal set of concurrent non-interfering transmissions and further derive lower and upper bounds for the cardinality of the set. Using simulations, we show that these bounds serve as reasonable estimates for the actual value of the MAC-layer capacity. In general, CAD platforms employ NURBS (Non Uniform Rational B-Splines)
functions to model geometry and the same functions are adopted by isogeometric

Το πρόβλημα που αντιμετωπίζει η διατριβή αφορά στη μοντελοποίηση μη-στασίμων τυχαίων ταλαντώσεων επί τη βάσει μετρήσεων του σήματος της ταλάντωσης, μέσω μοντέλων FS-TAR/TARMA.
Οι στόχοι της διατριβής περιλαμβάνουν την αποτίμηση της εφαρμοσιμότητας των μεθόδων FS-TAR/TARMA για την μοντελοποίηση και ανάλυση της ταλάντωσης χρονικά μεταβαλλόμενών κατασκευών, καθώς και τη σύγκρισή τους με εναλλακτικές παραμετρικές μεθόδους του πεδίου του χρόνου. Ιδιαίτερη βαρύτητα δίνεται και στην αντιμετώπιση θεμάτων που σχετίζονται με την εκτίμηση μοντέλων FS-ΤAR/TARMA, καθώς και στην θεωρητική ασυμπτωτική ανάλυση των ιδιοτήτων των εκτιμητριών που χρησιμοποιούνται.

Η αποτελεσματικότητα των μεθόδων FS-TAR/TARMA για την μοντελοποίηση και ανάλυση μη-στάσίμων ταλαντώσεων επιδεικνύεται και πειραματικά μέσω εφαρμογής στην οποία πραγματοποιείται επιτυχής εξαγωγή των δυναμικών χαρακτηριστικών μιας εργαστηριακής χρονικά μεταβαλλόμενης κατασκευής.

Η ορθότητα των αποτελεσμάτων της ασυμπτωτικής ανάλυσης επιβεβαιώνεται μέσω μελετών Monte Carlo.<br>The thesis studies the problem of non-stationary random vibration modeling and analysis based on available measurements of the vibration signal via Functional Series Time-dependent AutoRegressive / AutoRegressive Moving Average (FS-TAR/ TARMA) models.
The aims of the thesis include the assessment of the applicability of FS-TAR/TARMA methods for the modeling and analysis of non-stationary random vibration, as well as their comparison with alternative time-domain parametric methods. In addition, significant attention has been paid to the FS-TAR/TARMA estimation problem and to the theoretical asymptotic analysis of the estimators.
A critical overview and comparison of time-domain, parametric, non-stationary random vibration modeling and analysis methods is firstly presented, where the high potential of FS-TAR/TARMA methods is demonstrated. In the following, a number of issues concerning the FS-TAR/TARMA model (parameter) estimation and model structure selection are considered. The effectiveness of the FS-TARMA methods for non-stationary random vibration modeling and analysis is experimentally demonstrated, through their application for the recovery of the dynamical characteristics of a time-varying bridge-like laboratory structure.
In the sequel, the thesis focuses on the asymptotic analysis of “general” (that is not necessarily periodically evolving) FS-TAR/TARMA estimators. In particular, the Weighted Least Squares (WLS) and Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimators are both investigated, while a Multi Stage (MS) estimator, that approximates the ML estimator at reduced complexity, is developed. The consistency of the considered estimators is established and their asymptotic distribution is extracted. Furthermore, a consistent estimator of the asymptotic covariance matrix is formulated and an FS-TAR/TARMA model validation method is proposed. The validity of the theoretical asymptotic analysis results is assessed through several Monte Carlo studies.

On s’intéresse ici aux erreurs de modélisation liées à l’usage de modèles de
flammelette sous-maille en combustion turbulente non prémélangée. Le but de
cette thèse est de développer une stratégie d’estimation d’erreur a posteriori pour
déterminer le meilleur modèle parmi une hiérarchie, à un coût numérique similaire
à l’utilisation de ces mêmes modèles. Dans un premier temps, une stratégie faisant
appel à un estimateur basé sur les résidus pondérés est développée et testée sur un
système d’équations d’advection-diffusion-réaction. Dans un deuxième temps, on
teste la méthodologie d’estimation d’erreur sur un autre système d’équations, où
des effets d’extinction et de réallumage sont ajoutés. Lorsqu’il n’y a pas d’advection,
une analyse asymptotique rigoureuse montre l’existence de plusieurs régimes
de combustion déjà observés dans les simulations numériques. Nous obtenons une
approximation des paramètres de réallumage et d’extinction avec la courbe en
«S», un graphe de la température maximale de la flamme en fonction du nombre
de Damköhler, composée de trois branches et d’une double courbure. En ajoutant
des effets advectifs, on obtient également une courbe en «S» correspondant
aux régimes de combustion déjà identifiés. Nous comparons les erreurs de modélisation
liées aux approximations asymptotiques dans les deux régimes stables et
établissons une nouvelle hiérarchie des modèles en fonction du régime de combustion.
Ces erreurs sont comparées aux estimations données par la stratégie
d’estimation d’erreur. Si un seul régime stable de combustion existe, l’estimateur
d’erreur l’identifie correctement ; si plus d’un régime est possible, on obtient une
fac˛on systématique de choisir un régime. Pour les régimes où plus d’un modèle
est approprié, la hiérarchie prédite par l’estimateur est correcte.<br>We are interested here in the modeling errors of subgrid flamelet models in
nonpremixed turbulent combustion. The goal of this thesis is to develop an a posteriori
error estimation strategy to determine the best model within a hierarchy,
with a numerical cost at most that of using the models in the first place. Firstly,
we develop and test a dual-weighted residual estimator strategy on a system of
advection-diffusion-reaction equations. Secondly, we test that methodology on
another system of equations, where quenching and ignition effects are added. In
the absence of advection, a rigorous asymptotic analysis shows the existence of
many combustion regimes already observed in numerical simulations. We obtain
approximations of the quenching and ignition parameters, alongside the S-shaped
curve, a plot of the maximal flame temperature as a function of the Damköhler
number, consisting of three branches and two bends. When advection effects are
added, we still obtain a S-shaped curve corresponding to the known combustion
regimes. We compare the modeling errors of the asymptotic approximations in
the two stable regimes and establish new model hierarchies for each combustion
regime. These errors are compared with the estimations obtained by using the error
estimation strategy. When only one stable combustion regime exists, the error
estimator correctly identifies that regime; when two or more regimes are possible,
it gives a systematic way of choosing one regime. For regimes where more than
one model is appropriate, the error estimator’s predicted hierarchy is correct.

<div>Non-stationary point processes are often used to model systems whose rates vary over time. Estimating underlying rate functions is important for input to a discrete-event simulation along with various statistical analyses. We study nonparametric estimators to the marked point process, the infinite-server queueing model, and the transitory queueing model. We conduct statistical inference for these estimators by establishing a number of asymptotic results.</div><div><br></div><div>For the marked point process, we consider estimating the offered load to the system over time. With direct observations of the offered load sampled at fixed intervals, we establish asymptotic consistency, rates of convergence, and asymptotic covariance through a Functional Strong Law of Large Numbers, a Functional Central Limit Theorem, and a Law of Iterated Logarithm. We also show that there exists an asymptotically optimal interval width as the sample size approaches infinity.</div><div><br></div><div>The infinite-server queueing model is central in many stochastic models. Specifically, the mean number of busy servers can be used as an estimator for the total load faced to a multi-server system with time-varying arrivals and in many other applications. Through an omniscient estimator based on observing both the arrival times and service requirements for n samples of an infinite-server queue, we show asymptotic consistency and rate of convergence. Then, we establish the asymptotics for a nonparametric estimator based on observations of the busy servers at fixed intervals.</div><div><br></div><div>The transitory queueing model is crucial when studying a transitory system, which arises when the time horizon or population is finite. We assume we observe arrival counts at fixed intervals. We first consider a natural estimator which applies an underlying nonhomogeneous Poisson process. Although the estimator is asymptotically unbiased, we see that a correction term is required to retrieve an accurate asymptotic covariance. Next, we consider a nonparametric estimator that exploits the maximum likelihood estimator of a multinomial distribution to see that this estimator converges appropriately to a Brownian Bridge.</div>

The thesis focuses on the qualitative analysis of a general class of SEIRS models in periodic and non-periodic environments. The classical SEIRS model, with standard incidence function, is, first of all, extended to incorporate multiple infectious stages. Using Lyapunov function theory and LaSalle's Invariance Principle, the disease-free equilibrium (DFE) of the resulting SEI<sup>n</sup>RS model is shown to be globally-asymptotically stable whenever the associated reproduction number is less than unity. Furthermore, this model has a unique endemic equilibrium point (EEP), which is shown (using a non-linear Lyapunov function of Goh-Volterra type) to be globally-asymptotically stable for a special case. The SEI<sup>n</sup>RS model is further extended to incorporate arbitrary number of latent stages. A notable feature of the resulting SE<sup>m</sup>I<sup>n</sup>RS model is that it uses gamma distribution assumptions for the average waiting times in the latent (m) and infectious (n) stages. Like in the case of the SEI<sup>n</sup>RS model, the SE<sup>m</sup>I<sup>n</sup>RS model also has a globally-asymptotically stable DFE when its associated reproduction threshold is less than unity, and it has a unique EEP (which is globally-stable for a special case) when the threshold exceeds unity. The SE<sup>m</sup>I<sup>n</sup>RS model is further extended to incorporate the effect of periodicity on the disease transmission dynamics. The resulting non-autonomous SE<sup>m</sup>I<sup>n</sup>RS model is shown to have a globally-stable disease-free solution when the associated reproduction ratio is less than unity. Furthermore, the non-autonomous model has at least one positive (non-trivial) periodic solution when the reproduction ratio exceeds unity. It is shown (using persistence theory) that, for the non-autonomous model, the disease will always persist in the population whenever the reproduction ratio is greater than unity. One of the main mathematical contributions of this thesis is that it shows that adding multiple latent and infectious stages, gamma distribution assumptions (for the average waiting times in these stages) and periodicity to the classical SEIRS model (with standard incidence) does not alter the main qualitative dynamics (pertaining to the persistence or elimination of the disease from the population) of the SEIRS model.

This work aims at dimensional reduction of nonlinear material models in an asymptotically accurate manner. The three-dimensional(3-D) nonlinear material models considered include isotropic, orthotropic and dielectric compressible hyperelastic material models. Hyperelastic materials have potential applications in space-based inflatable structures, pneumatic membranes, replacements for soft biological tissues, prosthetic devices, compliant robots, high-altitude airships and artificial blood pumps, to name a few. Such structures have special engineering properties like high strength-to-mass ratio, low deflated volume and low inflated density. The majority of these applications imply a thin shell form-factor, rendering the problem geometrically nonlinear as well. Despite their superior engineering properties and potential uses, there are no proper analysis tools available to analyze these structures accurately yet efficiently. The development of a unified analytical model for both material and geometric nonlinearities encounters mathematical difficulties in the theory but its results have considerable scope. Therefore, a novel tool is needed to dimensionally reduce these nonlinear material models.
In this thesis, Prof. Berdichevsky’s Variational Asymptotic Method(VAM) has been applied rigorously to alleviate the difficulties faced in modeling thin shell structures(made of such nonlinear materials for the first time in the history of VAM) which inherently exhibit geometric small parameters(such as the ratio of thickness to shortest wavelength of the deformation along the shell reference surface) and physical small parameters(such as moderate strains in certain applications).
Saint Venant-Kirchhoff and neo-Hookean 3-D strain energy functions are considered for isotropic hyperelastic material modeling. Further, these two material models are augmented with electromechanical coupling term through Maxwell stress tensor for dielectric hyperelastic material modeling. A polyconvex 3-D strain energy function is used for the orthotropic hyperelastic model. Upon the application of VAM, in each of the above cases, the original 3-D nonlinear electroelastic problem splits into a nonlinear one-dimensional (1-D) through-the-thickness analysis and a nonlinear two-dimensional(2-D) shell analysis. This greatly reduces the computational cost compared to a full 3-D analysis. Through-the-thickness analysis provides a 2-D nonlinear constitutive law for the shell equations and a set of recovery relations that expresses the 3-D field variables (displacements, strains and stresses) through thethicknessintermsof2-D shell variables calculated in the shell analysis (2-D).
Analytical expressions (asymptotically accurate) are derived for stiffness, strains, stresses and 3-D warping field for all three material types. Consistent with the three types of 2-D nonlinear constitutive laws,2-D shell theories and corresponding finite element programs have been developed.
