Frodeson, Martin, and David Gustafsson. Thesis, Karlstads universitet, Handelshögskolan (from 2013), 2021. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kau:diva-84923.

Abstract:
According to the Service-dominant logic perspective, a consumer is served a value proposition on which he or she then acts. Depending on the interaction outcome, customer satisfaction is affected. However, the link between the interaction outcomes no-creation and co-destruction and its impact on customer satisfaction is yet unexplored. This study aims to examine individuals' perceived customer satisfaction of value propositions that are presented via direct and indirect digital marketing activities. A model was constructed by the authors in which value propositions via direct (email) and indirect (Facebook) digital marketing channels were examined. To create an understanding of which interaction outcome (co-creation, no-creation, and co-destruction) different value propositions resulted in, based on consumers' experience and how this affected customer satisfaction. The study used a qualitative approach in which twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted. The results indicate that within indirect digital marketing activities (e-mail), a lower frequency of value propositions containing more information were factors that resulted in co-creation with increased customer satisfaction as a result. No-creation occurred if the consumer had a relationship with the value provider but lacked interest at the time of the value proposition, which resulted in unchanged customer satisfaction. If the frequency of value propositions was too high or the value propositions were non-personal, co-destruction occurred, which resulted in a reduction in customer satisfaction. In indirect digital marketing activities (Facebook), the results show that transparency from the company's side towards the consumer and the level of adaption of the value proposition towards the consumer's preferences led to co-creation, with increased customer satisfaction. No-creation occurred when the customers had received expected or uninteresting value propositions, resulting in unchanged customer satisfaction. Value propositions that had a high frequency or that were perceived to make personal infringement were factors that led to co-destruction, which resulted in reduced customer satisfaction. The present study supports existing research's results, that co-creation leads to increased customer satisfaction. The understanding is expanded with a model constructed by the authors which clarifies that no-creation leads to unchanged customer satisfaction and that co-destruction leads to reduced customer satisfaction. Furthermore, the study also examines which factors that affect the customer’s interaction outcome.

Published anonymously in 1844, the book Vestiges of the natural history of creation triggered one of the greatest public debates which took place in the 19th century. Its author Robert Chambers proposed the transformation of living beings and the origin of new species by natural causes. The first aim of this dissertation is to describe some evolutionary concepts presented in the book. The second one is to compare them to the final version of Lamarck s theory on the progression of animals. This dissertation contains an introduction and four chapters. Chapter 1 discusses the evolutionary precedents and the general context in which Chambers presented his views concerning the transmutation of species. It also describes his career and professional interests. Chapter 2 deals with Chambers main evolutionary ideas. Chapter 3 provides a comparison between Chambers' and Lamarck's views, showing their similarities and differences. Chapter 4 offers some final remarks on the subject. This study led to the conclusion that although several similarities between Chambers' and Lamarck's evolutionary ideas may be found in some respects, such as gradualism, progression, uniformitarism, natural laws and no interference of God in natural processes, there were also some relevant differences such as the way in which they attempted to provide a foundation for their theories. Whereas Chambers presented many arguments using the fossil records as well as some other ones related to rudimentary organs and embryology, Lamarck made scarce use of the fossil record for the foundation of his theory. Instead of this, he provided a huge mass of facts showing the existence of a progression of the great taxonomical groups of animals. The arrangement of those groups in a progressive scale, however, did not provide an empirical foundation for what had happened in time. On the other hand, Chambers presented laws different from Lamarck's. However, although he did not propose a law dealing with the increase of the complexity of the great groups or individuals as Lamarck did, this idea permeated all of Chambers' ideas on the transmutation of species

Abstract:
Companies performance evaluation is constantly subject to discussion. In an ever-changing economic environment, it is a challenge to adjust companies financial performance measures. Value creation is considered by several authors as one of the simplest and best way of measuring the real value of a company. Value creation occurs when the company generates profitability higher than the opportunity cost of the total invested capital. EVA® is an indicator of value creation in line with the modern financial theory, where the value of a company corresponds to the difference between operating profit and the cost of total capital invested. Value-based management has gained repercussion in both business and academia. For a proper management of value creation it becomes important to analyze its determinants factors, that is, the value drivers. The present study aims to identify the main value drivers of value creation in non-financial companies listed on Euronext Lisbon measured by EVA® (economic value added). The study’s population are companies listed on Euronext Lisbon and the sample are the non-financial companies. It was analyzed the period from 2011 to 2016. The data was obtained through the analysis of the companies consolidated financial statements, included in the sample and it´s analysis was performed with multivariate and dependence statistical analysis techniques, by using statistical analysis software SPSS (Statistical package for social sciences). For the studyed sample, the variables considered most relevant to value creation, measured by EVA®, were the operating profit margin, capital invested turnover and the cost of equity. They were identified as statistically significant by all of the statistical analysis techniques used in the study.

Knowledge flows, especially in subsidiaries of multinational corporations, now have an increasing importance in organizations and therefore the discussion of research in the field. The aim of this work is to analyze flows not only through transfers, but also conversions of knowledge between the three families of intangible assets (external structure, internal structure and individual competence), since, for the creation of value, the key lies in the fact that such transfers and conversions be effective (SVEIBY, 2001). Concerning the method, this dissertation presents an empirical study through a survey applied along the Brazilian subsidiaries of multinational corporations, from a theoretical construct Knowledge-based view (KBV) where makes an analysis of the assets of individual competence, internal structure and external structure, and having for its object of study brazilian companies in Brazil listed in data collection known as the best and biggest from business magazine EXAME covering the year 2012. The study indicates, for the sample data (nine respondents) removed of the universe effectively researched (140 companies and not the initial 565), that there is the maximization of value creation from knowledge flows in two directions only by knowledge transfers and conversions of Individual Competencies for External Structure, within the Internal Structure, of Internal Structure for Individual Competencies and within the External Structure

Twenty first century School urgently needs profound transformations that allow teachers to adapt the school to the needs that our students and the society in general are claiming. Musical education is now using models that have nothing to do with the ways of doing music that we can find outside of the school. The new technological revolution applied to the field of music has allowed other ways of doing music to strongly emerge that collectively offer a new cartography of musical learning in all its dimensions. It is for that reason that this study, through an ethnographic methodology, focuses on the collaborative practices in music creation occurring in informal contexts and that are developed by musicians without formal musical training. The results of this study show some guidelines that have to be taken into account in order to transform and to adapt the musical practices in our classrooms towards more permeable contexts between school and society by encouraging and fostering collaborative and creative musical learning.

Abstract:

Why do people invest? People are insecure about their future welfare and aim for future guaranteed cash flows. To give ourselves a more thorough introduction to investments we decided to write our bachelor-thesis within the area of finance. This thesis will combine financial institutions and investments. It is a topic repeatedly discussed in the media and a study carried out in Sweden showed that in 2003, 80% of the population were shareholders.

When trading with stocks and shares there is risk involved that can be defined as the volatility in the cash flow of an investment. A portfolio is a collection of securities that an investor has placed capital in. In order to minimise the risk of the portfolio, the investor can diversify his or her portfolio, which involves investing in different securities in order to minimise risk. Institutional Theory will help us to see how these financial institutions interact with each other and what internal and external factors may influence their behaviour. Institutional investors; such as banks, are seen as large actors on the financial markets as they gain more and more control over the management of equities. It is necessary that intermediaries take care of their customers and inform them thoroughly about the rules of the investment game. With this as a background we felt it would be interesting to investigate the following problem.

On what basis do financial institutions create their customers’ portfolios and is the process the same across the branch as a whole?

In order to find an answer to this question; we have done a qualitative study with an overall positivistic influence. The study is based upon an analysis of the empirical material; collected through interviews with three financial institutions, grounded in theory in order to answer our specific question.

From the information gathered we understood that the first information financial institutions gather is personal information about the investors, which is needed to get a picture and an understanding about their client. We have also learned how important it is to understand risk, as it is the risk that will determine the composition of the portfolio for the investor. We could see with the help of the institutional theory that there is little space for differentiation and can therefore say that the financial institutions work in the same way in the advising of their clients and for the composition of their client’s portfolio.

Our results show that the basis for the creation of portfolios is more or less the same across the branches as a whole. The service given may differ, due to the competence and knowledge level of employees, between institutions but the end product is similar in all aspects.

With the competition today, companies looking for tools that can leverage your revenues and improve your performance, especially in the automotive sector which has a fierce contest for market share. Technological innovations are a way out for those companies wishing to compete in a position of equality, but to generate technological innovation need to understand tools for its development. The co-creation of value is one such tool. This work has the objective to analyze if the co-creation of value drives the development of technological innovations and influence positively the financial/economic and operational performance in the automotive industries. To complete this study research methodology adopted was a semi-structured questionnaire with confirmatory survey based on data obtained through structural equation modeling software (Smart PLS). Data analysis was conducted on the basis of quantitative and qualitative data, analyze the hypotheses developed after review of the existing literature. The objective of this research is to investigate how interviews are inserted into documentaries. To this end, a broad sampling of audiovisual shows identified in the field of documentaries (Brazilian, American and European short and feature-length documentaries; works of nonfiction identified as independent videos and Brazilian popular videos; audiovisual works produced by students) was mapped to determine how interviews are inserted into documentaries. An analysis was made of the authors‟ choices regarding the choice of sites, interview situation, cinematography, editing, and also how the interview is conducted by the interviewer, whom we see as the professional who appears most frequently in the end result. A categorization of the interviewees is proposed according to their roles in the film ( character, expert, vox-pop , etc.). This mapping highlights not only procedures that are repeated in the films, consolidating diffuse knowledge about interviews in documentaries, but also unique and singular moments that reveal an original solution or a more marked authorial vein on the part of the audiovisual author. The procedures were analyzed in the light of different trends in documentary literature, from the most normative theorists (Alan Rosenthal, Michael Rabiger) to theoretical-analytical authors (Jean-Louis Comolli, Bill Nichols). Among Brazilians, we highlight Fernão Pessoa Ramos and Jean-Claude Bernardet. Special attention focused on the work of cinematographer Eduardo Coutinho, in view of his deepening of the question of the interview in the documentary and of the diversity of available sources and process documentation (publications by Consuelo Lins and Eduardo Ohata, among others). With this research, we seek to identify how the execution and insertion of the interview characterize the uniqueness of the documentary, and how they indicate agglutinative currents and trends
Abstract:
Abstract The first and positive conclusion—relating to the governing of co-creation and the sharing of control—is that co-creation is indeed an appropriate method to develop digital public information services that meet the needs of older users and achieve an output that is better than existing, comparable services. The second conclusion—relating to the sharing of expertise and knowledge—is that the co-creation of digital services works well with older adults, including those with little or no digital literacy skills. However, the performance and achievements of co-creation processes seem highly contingent and dependent on several factors. The third conclusion—relating to enabling change—is that not every digital public service is equally suited for co-creation. A lasting social as well as individual change can only be implemented if the resulting service does indeed respond to the needs of local stakeholders. Co-creation may become a way to improve the lack of user-centricity and user experience of digital public information services. However, there is no guarantee for its success. It is a complex multi-task and multi-stakeholder process, more demanding than traditional citizen participation. Due to the openness and complexity inherent to any co-creation process, providing strict guidelines and recommendations is not possible. However, the learning points identified in this book provide evidence on ways to co-create better, more user-centric public services with and for older adults.

Abstract:
This chapter questions the role of the notated score in delimiting structure. Examining first the soundness of the published editions of Schoenberg’s Op. 19, No.4, and then analyzing the score and recordings by three pianists associated with Schoenberg interpretation (Edward Steuermann, Maurizio Pollini, and Mitsuko Uchida), it demonstrates how structure can be defined by the interpreter—analyst or performer. A view of interpretation as creation is set against a backdrop of a score’s affordances, including those of text or script.

Abstract:
This chapter explores the medieval debate about the nature of creation. It compares and contrasts arguments of three major schools. The first school suggests that the universe had no start, and that God’s work of creation is, accordingly, continuous and with no beginning. The second two schools suggest that the creation had a beginning but differ as to whether God created the universe out of nothing, or out of some primordial matter. Bringing these arguments into conversation with contemporary philosophy and cosmology, this chapter finds in favor of an original creation from nothing.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper considers the effect of heat transfer between fluid streams on the work output of a turbine. To correctly characterize the effect of heat transfer requires a new property, ‘mechanical work potential’, which is a measure of the maximum useful work that can be extracted from a fluid by an isentropic turbine exhausting to a fixed exit static pressure. A balance equation for the property, over a control volume, is developed. The equation shows that entropy creation through thermal mixing has no effect on turbine work. It does, however, show that a second heat transfer term, ‘thermal creation’, does alter turbine work. Thermal creation occurs in regions of the turbine where heat transfer occurs across a finite pressure difference. The term is the non-linear version of the acoustic energy creation term proposed by Lord Rayleigh in his thermo-acoustic criterion. The balance equation is then used to link local regions of thermal creation to changes in stage efficiency. The method is used to show that, in a modern high pressure turbine stage, heat transfer due to thermal mixing in the freestream causes a negligible change in efficiency and therefore can be ignored in the design process. The method is also used to show that heat transfer due to convective cooling results in ∼0.5% rise in stage efficiency. This is a significant and should be accounted for in the design process.

Abstract:
The background color of Russian literature and Russian painting art in the 19th century is gloomy and heavy, and there exists text intertextuality between them, which is different from single text and single painting. Literary words and painting invisible words quote, permeate, insinuate and rewrite each other. Literature is the writing of painting, and painting is the color of literature. The main line of literature development and the main line of painting development seem to be twisted together like a rope, presenting spiral development, closely linked, complementary and inseparable. The same value orientation and aesthetic purpose have intertextuality, mutual influence, mutual interaction and mutual transformation, no matter in creation method, theme, artistic style or creation background. Direct description or sharp pen, or by the protagonist of indirect irony, using realistic and critical realism creation method, revealing the tsarist autocracy savage, dissatisfaction with the reality in protest of rebellion, as well as being bullied and oppressed pain and struggle, at the same time reflects the immortality of the Russian national literature and art achievement.

Abstract:
Citizen science and food is part of a new programme of work to explore how we can involve the communities we serve when building the evidence-base on which policy decisions are made. Citizen science is an approach that can provide high volumes of data with a wide geographic spread. It is relatively quick to deploy and allows access to evidence we would ordinarily have difficulty collating. This methodology has been endorsed by the European Commission for Research, Science and Innovation. There is no one size fits all definition, but citizen science projects involves engaging with communities and asking them to be part of the project, either through engaging them in data collection or through other ways of co-creation. For participants, citizen science offers learning opportunities, the satisfaction of contributing to scientific evidence and the potential to influence policy. It can also give us data which is high in volume, has wide geographical spread, is relatively quick to deploy and that we couldn’t access any other way. Projects using these methods often involve engaging with communities and asking them to be part of the project. This can be either through working with them in data collection, or through co-creation. This report demonstrates that the research community are already undertaking numerous pieces of research that align with FSA’s evidence needs. This includes examples from the UK and other global communities. Participants in such research have collected data on topics ranging from food preparation in the home to levels of chemical contaminant in foods. The findings of this report outline that citizen science could allow the FSA to target and facilitate more systematic engagement with UK and global research communities, to help address key research priorities of the FSA.

Abstract:
The article examines the views of one of the founders of classical economics, David Ricardo, on the issues of investment, capital and profit. The need for this study is caused by the lack of a single definition of investment in the regulatory acts of investment legislation, as well as in the scientific community. Thus, there is a problem of regulatory regulation of one of the most important concepts of the economy. Given that the concepts of investment, capital, and capital investment are primarily economic categories, it seems quite reasonable to consider the emergence and development of these concepts in the retrospect of economic theories, in order to understand the essence of the phenomenon and finally solve the issue of its legal regulation. The scientific novelty of the study is that despite a large number of works on the work of David Ricardo «The Beginnings of Political Economy and Taxation», no special work was carried out on the contribution of the great economist to the theory of investment. Conclusions. The main achievements of Ricardo in the field of capital and investment include the author's definitions of capital, free capital, the creation of a theory of comparative advantages of trade, the division of capital into fixed and circulating capital depending on strength, as well as the description of the reasons that stimulate and hinder foreign investment.

Saha, Amrita, Jodie Thorpe, Keir Macdonald, and Kelbesa Megersa. Linking Business Environment Reform with Gender and Inclusion: A Study of Business Licensing Reform in Indonesia. Institute of Development Studies (IDS), January 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4d.2021.001.

Full text
Abstract:
Business environment reform (BER) targets inadequate business regulations. It is intended to remove constraints to business investment, enabling growth and job creation, and create opportunities for international business to contribute to and benefit from this growth. However, there is a lack of detailed knowledge of the impact of BER on gender and inclusion (G&I). While a review of existing literature suggests that in general, there is no direct link between BER and G&I, indirect links are likely through the influence of BER on firm performance. Outcomes will be influenced by the differential ways in which women-led firms experience the business environment when compared to their male counterparts, with disparities based on how they are treated under the law, as well as structural and sociocultural factors. The fact that in many countries, female-led firms are fewer and smaller than those of their male counterparts, and may operate in different sectors, also affects these dynamics. This research offers new insights through an in-depth analysis of the impact of the Pelayanan Terpadu Satu Pintu (PTSP) or one-stop shop business licensing reform in 2009 on firm performance in Indonesia, and how these impacts vary based on the gender of firm leadership. The results find that on average, firms benefited from improved business performance (sales), as a direct or indirect effect of this reform, as well as an increase in the number of medium and large-scale firms. Outside Jakarta (Bali, Banten, Lampung), women-led firms experienced a small but significant benefit relative to male-led firms, related to both sales and the number of medium and large-scale firms they run. In Jakarta, women-led firms continued to lag behind men and there were no significant effects on employment, and this held across province and gender. These findings are based on an analysis of the PTSP reform using data from the World Bank Enterprise Survey (WBES), a survey of small, medium and large firms (i.e. with more than four employees) which took place in Indonesia between 2009 and 2015.
