Full textLinguistic and cultural means are hardly available to the japanese students learning french in japan if they want to practice their french in france. They are not able to communicate properly because they lack basic vocabulary, a lack which has consequence on their competence, both linguistic and cultural. This competence is directly linked with the contents of their locally made language books which do not provide them with sufficient communicative tools, and with those of a universal method like le nouveau sans frontieres 1 (widely used by japanese beginners), which does not answer their needs either. Taking into account the part held by lexis in the general competence and the vocabulary deficiencies of japanese students, we suggest a methodological content which insists on words for the linguistic and cultural description and for a learning of basic communicative tools

Full textThis study is a textual analysis of the socio linguistic variation in the conversation of nine year olds with an adult. Six of the children belong to lower classes and six to middle or upper classes. As far as the syntactical organisation of the sentence is concerned, the two groups of texts are very closely related. However, if one considers conversational behavior, a strongly structured variation appears which associates the length of the turns and the way the text is constructed : the frequency and the position of cohesive elements, the alternation of narrative and commentative tenses, the type of conjunction used, and the selection of personal pronouns evolve interdependantly. The correlation between the child'social background and the type of text he produces leads us to conclude that linguistic variation depends on the status the child gives himself in an exchange with an adult and how he deals with conflictual relationships in class-room interactions

Full textDuring the course of their life cycle organisms are exposed to natural environment variations capable of inducing physiological, morphological and behaviour changes, thus a phenotypic plasticity. Phenotypic plasticity is the ability of a genotype to generate a new phenotype following exogeneous or endogeneous stress. Here, we investigated the phenotypic plasticity of the non-calcifying symbiotic cnidarian Anemonia viridis at multiple levels of structural complexity, in vivo and in vitro. In vivo, we determined the mechanisms behind the phenotypic plasticity under expected future climate change (i.e. ocean acidification and ocean warming). Our results show physiological changes in the inorganic carbon use of the sea anemone A. viridis exposed to high pCO2 during a long-term stress in natura or a short-term stress in controlled conditions. We then observed an equivalent decrease in carbonic anhydrase activity, a key enzyme of cnidarian carbon concentrating mechanisms. Also, we demonstrated that an increase in seawater temperature modified the response observed during a high pCO2 scenario. In vitro, we established a viable primary cell culture from regenerating tentacles of A. viridis. We determined the gastrodermal tissue origin of the cultivated cells and validated the use of this new tool to the in vitro study of stress response at the cellular level. The set-up of this powerful in vitro tool will open a multitude of perspectives for the study of cellular responses to exogeneous stress (as global change perturbations) and to endogeneous stress (as the symbiosis constraints experienced by symbiotic cnidarians)

Full textFrance is the largest European producer of malting barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and the leading exporter of malt worldwide, accounting for 20% of world trade. French barley production has relied heavily on the use of synthetic inputs and has led, as other arable crops, to considerable environmental damage. The aim of this study is to design and evaluate crop and management ideotype adapted to a lower use of synthetic fertilizer. From a multi-environment trial, we conclude that the grain protein content and the calibrated yield (weight of grains >2.5 mm) have to be specifically improved in low-input management systems. We experimentally identified genotypic characteristics adapted to a low grain protein content loss and calibrated yield loss under N stress. With a crop model we adapted to malting barley, we also identified optimal N fertilization strategies allowing to reach high quantitative and qualitative performances whilst minimizing N losses toward the environment. Based on a precise characterization of environments the French barley belt, the best N fertilization strategies were identified for different regions. Finally, we identified new combinations of genotypic characteristics optimizing quantitative and qualitative performances in low management system. We showed that, in silico, a simultaneous adaptation of genotypic characteristics and optimization of N fertilization management allowed to reach similar performances as current genotypes in high-input management systems. We discuss methods to breed genotypes with high performances in low-input systems and the method used for innovative design of new management and barley malting cultivars adapted to low-input systems

Full textUntil a few decades ago, many personal and emotional skills had been underestimated by a rational logic, however, today they are being revalued and are required in most jobs. Different studies show that in certain contexts they are as or more influential than cognitive ones for the performance of a professional. That is why the present work seeks to know the scope of music therapy as an alternative tool for the development of certain soft soft skills, such as interpersonal communication in organizations in Lima, Peru. The methodology used in this research is qualitative. The information was obtained through semi-structured interviews with human resources professionals, psychologists and music therapists, to analyze their perceptions regarding the scope of this tool. In this way, the analysis of the literature was combined with the interviews with specialists. Among the main conclusions, we find that professionals from different fields agree that soft skills are part of the formula for success for any professional, both personal and work, and in turn they influence the organizational culture. The experts also considered that music therapy could be a way to develop these skills in collaborators of companies in Lima, Peru.

Full textJudo, the result of the sportification of jūdō* (a method developed in 1882 by J. Kano), is an institutionalized sport, not a martial art. By offering jūdō* to Sharing, Kano established a practice which was to be broadcasted worldwide. When referring to the dynamic analysis of globalization (Appadurai, 2001), judo is studied on a global (doing judo), local (doing a judo) and physical scale (making judo). Do judo is a matrix, common to all judokas around the world, which enables its members to identify each other, and also to distinguish themselves. The anthropological problematic of Sharing (Candau, 2000) shows how groups appropriate the judo specifically. Do a judo refers to the judo appropriated by a group, based on the socio-cultural context that acts as a filter, which enables them to adapt the matrix in order to adopt it. The comparison between judo practice in Orleans and "the Tenri" style illustrates how motor cultures are contextually built through specific material cultures. The dōjō* is designed as a network of actions in response to other people's actions and highlights the way judokas incorporate objects and shape themselves (as they are shaped by) through their relation to material and people. Make judo is the physical and personalized synthesis of the practice. Through contact with others, the judoka learns how to do judo: he integrates the material, masters matrix techniques and combines them in order to create his own system of attack and defence. A sensitive ethnography describes how objects that are integrated in an action are both substrates and effectors of the self-construction of the judoka. Finally, an ergonomic study of the training of the judokas and of the transmission of skills and expertise has been conducted. The aim is to introduce a sensory praxeological pedagogy into the teaching of judo in order to enhance interaction in the learning process
Dembele, Diomiho Monique.
Full textAmong the fresh produce that can be grown in urban settings or in buildings, the production of nutrient-rich baby leafy vegetables or microgreens is booming. The management of fertilization applied to organic cultivation remains a major determinant of the agronomic performance of greenhouse crops and of product quality. In addition, several studies reported that biostimulants can lead to higher biomass and improve the quality of several vegetables and fruits by increasing nutrient uptake and plant resilience to abiotic and biotic stresses. However, little is known about the optimal fertilization and the benefits of adding biostimulants to organic growing media. Therefore, this project aimed to evaluate the effect of (1) 5 concentrations of organic fertilization (0%; 50%; 100%; 150%; 200%) for 3 growing media (without or with mycorrizae, seaweed and humates), (2) reusing the growing media and (3) 11 biostimulants (Bacillus pumilus, seaweed extract, triacontanol vermicompost, Trichoderma harzianum, humic acid, CaSiO3, insect fertilizer, frass and meal of Hermetia illucens and control) on 6 species of microgreens. The growing media had significant effects on plant biomass. The growing medium amended with mycorrhizae, algae and humic acids increased the total fresh and dry biomass of shiso, basil and lettuce, while no gain in productivity was observed for spinach and Swiss chard. For chicory, only the total dry biomass was increased. Spinach and Swiss chard had the highest biomass with 200% fertilization, while chicory, shiso, basil and lettuce achieved optimal yield with 100 and 150%. In general, a positive correlation was observed between yield, nutrient uptake and mineral availability. However, the nutrient use efficiency decreased with increasing rates of fertilization. The fertilization treatments had a significant effect on leaf NO3 content, which increased with N concentration. However, leaf NO3 content was within the standards of the European Commission EUn°1258/2011; 2000-7000 mg NO3/kg spinach according to species and seasons. When reusing the growing media, similar effects of fertilizer x growing medium treatments were observed. However, biostimulants had few significant effects on yield and the photobiological parameters. This could be explained by the short growth cycle, added to the lack of stress in the plants. Frass resulted in an increase in the biological activity of the growing medium compared with the control without any biostimulant, but reduced yield which could imply a possible immobilization and/or use of nutrients by soil microorganisms, while humic acid decreased the FDA.

Full textReviving heroism by writing modern epics is a shared authorial intention on the part of the author of the Musketeers trilogy and Jin Yong, a writer of martial arts and chivalry novels often called “China’s Alexandre Dumas”. But what is a hero? These two novelists respectively explore this major theme in chivalric literature through their portrayal of important characters in their works. This comparative study, drawing upon the zooming technique in cinematography, explores these three topics: the heroes’ bildung, the affective relationships that influence their character formation, and the salient features of their personalities. In their constant struggles against the established authorities, especially paternal authorities, the Dumasian musketeers and Jin Yong’s knight-errants gradually transform into great transgressors who struggle to break free from the restraints of the social class to which they belong in order to act freely in a world seeking to tame them. This epic theme is entangled, like Dionysus’s scepter, with the intricacies of affective relationships. Two non-conformist discourses of love are constructed, contrasted and eventually pitted against each other in a reality much less rosy than the codified idyll, as they inevitably give way to the notion of brotherhood, which, either idealized or obfuscated, is celebrated and glorified even with its fallibities. The wide gap between the hero characters and the ideal image of a fearless and infallible knight is all the more visible when we examine them more closely in terms of their book knowledge, moral awareness and behavioral motivation. They are portrayed as ordinary human beings characterized by faults, banalities and limitations, while they are also given a sense of noble savageness and a touch of comic lightheartedness. Heroism is recalibrated in these novel’s conformity to and departure from traditions, and in the context of the harmony and clash between West and East

Full textThe objectives fixed to teaching sciences in high school (since 1980) is to introduce up to date knowledge encourging the "active" method. Today, the biotechnics occupy an important place in the society and the media. Therefore, the culture in vitro is being taught since 1987 in high school as a practical training. However, the professors who complain of lack of trainig in this domain have ascertained the difficulties faced by students. By meazns of questionnaires, we have found specific errors (in proportion to a scientifical referentiel) with at least two possible origins. First, the insufficiency in the curriculum of prerequists (high school, college) necessary to assimilate the basic concepts of culture in vitro (totipotentiality, differentiation. . . ). An analysis of high school books (1987-1991) shows also the absence of such basic concepts. The second origin comes from the natural comlexity itself of the subject being taught (theortical and technical aspects) to help the students to overcome certain difficulties, a course and practical training with the developpement of the basic concepts of culture in vitro and some explicitations at the cellular level, have been proposed. A qualitative evaluation of this experiment shows a better assimilation for some concepts (for some students). Nevertheless obstacles persists. Carrying out such a research and extending it to other levels where the culture in vitro or other biotechnics (engeenirinc genetic) could be taught, is valuable. Finaly, as teaching culture in vitro is not simple in high school, one should thinc about of the content of material being taught which merits the discussion of teaching advisors, specialist of contents and searchers in science education

Full textDinoflagellates of genus Ostreopsis are known in tropical areas to provoke food intoxication, after palytoxin accumulation in seafood. Probably in link with climatic changes, Ostreopsis sp. Is increasingly present in French Mediterranean since 2006. In the context of the PhD, the studies in natural environment, in summer 2011 and 2012, showed that: i) Ostreopsis cf. Ovata strain presented a complex toxinic profile, including palytoxin and especially ovatoxins (OVTX-a, -b, c, -d, -e). A new analog (OVTX-h) was detected; ii) cell and toxinic concentrations decreased with depth; iii) different seafood accumulated toxins, which could represent real risk for bathers and consumers. Because there are no standards for OVTXs, one of the PhD goals was to develop a OVTXs purification protocol from Ostreopsis cf. Ovata extracts. For this purpose, optimal culture conditions were investigated, allowing a maximal production of OVTXs (300 pg/cell). Different extraction and concentration steps developed had permitted to obtain a toxin rich fraction. Finale purification was performed using liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry/ UV detection, using Uptisphere C18-TF column. PhD researches have allowed to acquire data, which contribute to analysis of sanitary impact, since nowadays, at international level, there are just few data allowing to establish Ostreopsis sp. Alert and sanitary security threshold

Full textOne needs to break off with the common representation of performances as a result of natural abilities in order to grasp "high-standard sport" as a social construction with its own history. The state doesn't legally acknowledge the status of high standard athlete before 1975, but this acknowledgement is a real turning point: it is the completion of a sports policy developped by the state, which intervenes more and more in the expansion of practices and more specificially in elite sport. For more than 50 years, public authorities will take care of anything which has to do with sports before imposing a new population wich they control: high standard athletes. This new population replaces the sports coming from clubs. High standard sport and elite sport do not cover the same stakes, and one has to distinguish them before understanding them. By controlling high standard, the state controls the means of production of performances in the same time. But for the athletes, two ways of practising sport are in competition: amateurism and professionalism. The economical mediation implies that the opposition between the 2 practises can be substituted by an opposition between the economical field and the domain of sports, which tends to make practices work as a large market of the sports show, where the elite seems to obey economical dictates. There is therefore a struggle for the control of the elite between the state, who proposes a definition of "high standard sport" based on amateurism, and the economical field which tends to isolate elite in professionalism

Full textThis thesis is focused on the study of three adipokines (adiponectin, visfatin and chemerin) in species that develop abnormalities of energy metabolism associated with reproductive disorders. Our results have shown some diet effects on the lipid and carbohydrate metabolisms and in a less extend, on the reproductive functions in dairy cows and broiler hens. These effects were partly associated with the expression profiles of adiponectin, visfatin and chemerin. In addition, we have demonstrated overexpression of the chemerin/CMKLR1 system in follicular fluid and in ovarian cells of patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome, with or without obesity. First, these findings reveal the possibility of considering these adipokines as potential biomarkers for evaluating growth, fattening status and fertility in agricultural farms. On the other hand, they suggest a potential involvement of chemerin in the regulation of ovarian functions in women

Full textThe liver is a key organ used for biotransformation and pharmacological studies. Like other cells, hepatocytes possess the inherent machinery necessary to induce programmed cell death lso called apoptosis. We analyzed the molecular mechanisms of spontaneous apoptosis and TGF-β1-, staurosporine-induced cell death in human and rat hepatocytes. Their regulation by dexamethasone (DEX) and pesticides was investigated. DEX prevents apoptosis in these cells by acting upstream of mitochondrial events: inhibiting bcl2-2 and bcl-xL downregulation and Bad translocation from the cytosol to mitochondria, blocking cytochrome c release and caspases activation (initiator caspases-8 and -9 and effector caspases-3). Moreover, up regulation of Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL protects hepatocytes against TGF-β1- and staurosporine – induced apoptosis, P13K and Erk1/2 signaling pathways participated in this regulation? Xenobiotics such as dieldrin, aldicarb, and lindane induced similar “anti-apoptotic” effects as DEX. These results could have clinical applications, in hepatologic pathology treatments, and, toxicologic applications, in evaluation of pesticide risk in human health

Full textProteins glycoxidation can lead to the formation of Advanced Glycoxidation Endproducts (AGEs), which induce various deleterious effects on cells. I studied the impact of glycoxidation modification on albumin structures and antioxidant properties and identified altered physiological pathways in cell cultures (monocytes and adipocytes) incubated with AGEs. I first reviewed recent insights on albumin antioxidant properties. Secondly, I studied the effect of glucose or methylglyoxal-induced oxidative modifications on bovine serum albumin (BSA) or human serum albumin (HSA) protein structures and on THP1 monocyte physiology. Also, and at the adipocyte level, I proceeded to the identification of specifically carbonylated targets following 2D gels analyses. Finally I identified proteins which expression levels were impaired by AGEs treatment in adipose cells. My work brings new insights about an association of oxidative damage with the progression of diabetes disorders at the monocyte and adipocyte levels

Full textFrom the case of the Nord-Pas de Calais region, the thesis analyzes the impact of membership to areas that experience (or have experienced) severe restructuring on the intergenerational dynamics of human capital. The first part of the thesis presents the main developments characterizing the Nord-Pas de Calais region in terms of inequalities, qualification and intergenerational mobility, while emphasizing the strong industrial restructuring experienced by this region. A second part presents a literature survey on intergenerational transmission of human capital and persistent inequalities, on specific human capital and on their link with industrial restructuring. The inadaptability of traditional explanations for poverty traps in the region the Nord-Pas de Calais of Calais region leads to focus on the strong regional specificity: the weight of restructuring. To analyze the impact of industrial restructuring on intergenerational mobility, the third part of the thesis proposes a model of intergenerational transmission of human capital. In this model, individuals can choose between specific or general education. We show that restructuring entails a movement of certain individuals from the industrial sector toward the sector of services and a release of the conditions to fall in the under-education trap. In the fourth part, we empirically test the impact of industrial restructuring on intergenerational mobility for France as a whole. For that purpose, we use two successive empirical strategies. Econometric estimations show a negative impact of restructuring on the accumulation of human capital. This impact is concentrated on individuals whose parents are blue collars or low-skilled workers

Title: The arts councils and the arm’s length principle in cultural policy at a subnational level: A comparative study between Catalonia (Spain), Jalisco (Mexico) and Scotland (UK). Abstract: Comparative research on the arts councils of three sub-national regions from different countries, Catalonia (Spain), Jalisco (Mexico) and Scotland (United Kingdom), is carried out to examine the application of the arm's length principle, its performance, its relation to the cultural and politic context and its inclusion in institutional systems other than the Anglo-Saxon system. With a qualitative methodology and case study strategy, fieldwork is performed in each place through interviews, observations and documentary work, applying the joint canon of agreement and difference for analysis. The conclusion reached is that an arts council is not necessarily a body under the arm's length principle and the influence that stakeholders seek to exert through their various resources is reflected upon. The relationship between arts councils and their context shows the dialectics between legitimacy/efficiency, transparency/clientelism and differentiation/standardisation, and the tensions between the centre/periphery. This principle is used from politics as a rhetorical argument, while the aim is to have more control over decisions, even though this increases the level of accountability. The cultural sector is unaware that the principle also seeks to keep its distance from it to avoid clientelism. There is an evident mimicry, copying foreign models without adapting them sufficiently to the context and without delving more deeply into external experiences and theoretical reflections, which reveals some mistakes of the process.

This study discusses the curriculum in action in the Early Childhood Education and aims at understanding how the configuration of the religion/religiousness presents itself based on the children’s demonstrations of the children. Diversity and laicity overlap in a discussion that raises questions connected to the respect for differences, which were then discussed based on the critical multiculturalism and on the inter/multicultural perspective, understanding the religion/religiousness as part of the culture and of the dialogue relevance. As part of the objectives, we intended to investigate how children express themselves on the theme in order to better understand the relations between curriculum and culture in the Early Childhood Education. The question that guided the investigation was “How do children express themselves about religion/religiousness in curriculum in action?” The research was characterized as of ethnographic type. It included observations that were done with a group of 15 children aged from 5 to 6 years old in a Municipal School of Early Childhood Education, in a classroom and in other spaces at the school, during a semester, totalizing 36 days of observations. As part of the results, we noticed that religion/religiousness is frequently present with great force in the curriculum in action because there were in 33 days of the 36 days of observations. In this context, we also pointed out the school did not know about the religion/religiousness of the children. The school understands that it is not possible to talk about this subject in the school environment and hence making other forms of religion/religiousness that are deviants of the catholic Christian monocultural standard become invisible and exoticized. On the other hand, children bring their experiences to the curriculum where we can notice demonstrations of religion/religiousness several times, contradicting the school’s prohibition of talking about this subject. An important issue considering teachers' education is the development of public politics to transform educative spaces in a place for discussions and not of proselytism. It is necessary to consider religion/religiousness is in the curriculum in action with intensity and if the theme is brought to the school, it should be part of the curriculum. Discussing the theme is part of the conflicted challenges to be faced and needs to be done from a perspective that recognizes multiculturalism in the society and that promotes intercultural dialogue, considering the importance to provide the children chances to speak out and ensure the children’s voice will be heard and the content will be incorporated in the curriculum. We suggest that children speak out and that religion/religiousness does not remain at the school gate, but that this dialogue among the differences promotes learning. This will only be possible if the voice of the children is effectively heard.

Experiments conducted in field cages (1.0 m x 1.0 m x 1.2 m) in Ponta Grossa, Paraná, with soybean NK 3363, during the 2010/2011 season, were designed to characterize and assess the damage caused by Edessa meditabunda, Chinavia impicticornis, and Piezodorus guildinii. The plants were infested with different population levels (0, two, and three adults/m) at different phenological phases, as follows: from the beginning of grain development up to maturation (R5.1-R9); 25% to 50% of seeds filled up to maturation (R5.3-R9); completely filled seeds up to maturation (R6-R9); physiological maturity (R7-R9). Two experiments were carried out: 1) the first with the species E. meditabunda and P. guildinii and the soybean sown on November 12, 2010 and harvested on April 8, 2011 (cycle of 147 days); 2) the second with the species C. impicticornis and P. guildinii and the soybean sown on December 16, 2010 and harvested on May 2, 2011 (cycle of 150 days). The following parameters were analyzed: leaf retention; germination; yield; damage estimate with tetrazolium, classified from 1 to 8; total number of non-viable seeds. Data underwent variance analysis and the Tukey test at 5% significance level. P. guildinii caused higher leaf retention during the longest infestation period (60 days, from R5.1 to R9), with an average retention index of 4.1 (41% to 60% of the plants with symptoms of leaf retention), whereas in the shortest period of infestation (21 days, from R7 to R9), the average retention index was 3.2. The lowest germination (66.5%) was observed in plants infested at the beginning of grain development (R5.1-R9) with three adults/m of P. guildinii, as well as in plants infested at the physiological maturity (R7-R9) with three adults/m of E. meditabunda (68.7%), a species that, in the same period of infestation, caused the highest number of non-viable seeds (18.0%). C. impicticornis infestation caused the lowest percentage of germination (76.5%) during phase R5.3 with two adults/m. The highest average percentage of seeds damaged occurred with infestations during R5.1-R9, with two and three adults/m of P. guildinii, when 22.6% to 25.0% of the seeds and 63.6% to 68.0% of the seeds were damaged in the first and second experiments, respectively, in a total of 50 seeds. E. meditabunda was responsible for the greatest damage in infestations at R7, with an average of 34.0% and 41.4% of the damaged seeds in the first and second experiments, respectively. C. impicticornis affected the highest number of seeds (approximately 54.0%) in infestations with two insects/m at R6. P. guildinii caused the severe damage (36.0% of non-viable seeds) in infestations during the longest period (R5.1-R9). No significant differences were observed between the periods of infestation with two and three insects/m. The highest reduction in viability and seed vigor was caused by infestations at R5.1 with three adults/m of P. guildinii, with only 64.0% of viable seeds and 38.7% of vigorous seeds. Yield (kg ha-1) was not significantly affected between the two periods of infestation and between different population levels.
