Abstract:
NGOs, or non-governmental organizations, are a kind of non-profit private sector provider of the health system. Global health issues include health inequity. Inequity exists in healthcare, vaccinations, and research for developing nations. There are disparities in healthcare access even between nations. NGOs typically focus on underprivileged groups or specific diseases that the government sector frequently ignores. But maintaining financial stability is a significant problem for NGOs. Donors account for the majority of an NGO's funding. The availability of health care can be expanded through NGOs. By 2030, the World Health Organization hopes to have universal health coverage.

Abstract:
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have been promoted in the development activities in Nepal since the restoration of democracy in 1990. NGOs have been recognized as one of the development facilitator institutions in Karnali Zone. The objective of this study was focused to identify the status of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) on the basis of its structure, environment, values and Impact. The study had adopted the civil society index as a theoretical tool of study. Randomly in total 562 respondents were selected from five districts of Karnali zone. The findings of ANOVA showed that there was a significant difference between respondents in the structure of NGOs in P=0.007 significant level at 95% confidence interval. But other three components environment, values and impact were not significantly difference. It could be assumed that because of the geographical differences, involvement of human resources, basic infrastructure, access on communication and technologies and perception on NGOs activities are the major factors which made the perceptual difference among the respondents in structure of NGOs. Similarly, contribution of NGO in promotion of political awareness, transparency of their work and empowering citizenship were more or less in the same level in all five districts so response of participants became similar in environment, values and impact of NGOs. It is necessary to identify the locally reliable and related indicators of NGO to assess the NGO's status and their performance.

Abstract:
This paper explores the indispensable role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in cultivating, applying, and conserving Indigenous knowledge within rural Bangladesh. It scrutinizes how NGOs sustain Indigenous knowledge by focusing on pivotal sectors like agriculture, local medicine, and disaster management. Employing qualitative methodologies—such as ethnographic interviews, focus group discussions (FGD), and case studies—the research was conducted in the Gabura union, Bangladesh, using primary and secondary data sources. The literature review underscores the significance of Indigenous knowledge in agriculture and disaster management while identifying gaps in comprehending knowledge conservation dynamics and the NGO's impact on Indigenous knowledge. It highlights how locals employ Indigenous Knowledge to combat natural disasters, particularly in agriculture, healthcare, and disaster management. Furthermore, it explores NGOs' active roles in preserving and leveraging Indigenous Knowledge, emphasizing its integration with modern scientific knowledge and significance in rural life. The study delves into Gabura residents' strategies for cyclone resilience, such as seeking refuge on embankments, relocating to higher ground, and preserving seeds and dry food. It emphasizes NGOs like BARCIK and their initiatives—Paramela and Kaviraj Mela—along with resource person engagement and safeguarding local knowledge endangered by globalization. BARCIK's training in disaster management, advocacy for traditional agricultural methods, and promotion of indigenous remedies in healthcare are highlighted. Ultimately, the paper underscores NGOs' significant contributions to fostering and applying Indigenous knowledge for sustainable rural development. It emphasizes the institutional processes in defining knowledge and the NGO's role in its reproduction.

Abstract:
India has experienced serious deforestation during the last century and it is anticipated that by the year 2035 India will be almost devoid of forests. NGO's have gained popularity in various parts of India by initiatives to conserve biodiversity such as establishing forest reserves and through the mobilization of indigenous organizations and development. However, the relationships that emerge among NGOs, Govt. and indigenous people with regard to conservation and control over biodiversity is problematic and co-management of established forest reserves often failed, because indigenous ways of use and control of biodiversity were difficult to accept by some conservation organizations. More importantly, there is the claim that NGO's have been working to create dependency while mobilizing indigenous organizations with assistance of Western donors. Recently, to face mainstream conservation models various NGOs are launching awareness movements. These NGOs movements emphasize a co evolution between local biodiversity, indigenous ecological practices, culture and self-development.

Abstract:
This paper proposes solution to handle complex societal concerns, including social welfare, environmental preservation, and humanitarian aid, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are essential players. Realising an NGO's objective requires effective administration of its many facets of operations, including donor connections, project tracking, volunteer coordination, and event planning. This article introduces the "An Advanced NGO Management System for Efficient Operations, Enhanced Donor Engagement, and Transparent Community Development" a powerful web-based tool designed to streamline NGOs' administrative procedures while promoting accountability and openness. In a world with constantly changing difficulties, NGOs need adaptive and user-friendly tools to successfully manage their range of activities. This system has been painstakingly designed to deliver a dynamic and adaptable online application that responds to the complex needs of NGOs and their stakeholders by utilising the power of Java Servlets technology. The NGO Management System functions as a central hub for the comprehensive management of NGO operations, enhancing their overall impact and contribution to the betterment of society.

Abstract:
This thesis will use three case studies to test the existing research on civil society and authoritarian regimes. By using concrete data from Putin’s previous decade in Russia, the post-Mubarak government’s control over transitional Egypt, and the Hun Sen regime in Cambodia, this thesis is an attempt to analyze under what conditions will authoritarian governments not only create, but enforce controls and restrictions against their NGO communities. This thesis expands O’donnell & Schmiiter’s existing theory: Government policy makers will increase restrictions when NGOs and civil society represent too strong of a threat, to include both real and perceived threats. Unfortunately, this thesis cannot conclude on the true power of NGOs, however one does not need to answer this question to examine why governments restrict them.

Kim, Youngwan. "The Unveiled power of NGOs: how NGOs influence states' foreign policy behaviors." Diss., University of Iowa, 2011. https://ir.uiowa.edu/etd/1153.

Full text
Abstract:
This research project is designed to understand the relationship between states and Nongovernmental Organizations (NGOs), especially how they influence one another. In this study, I argue that the theoretical relationship between states' foreign policy behaviors and the behavior of NGO is dynamic and conditional, with the influence of NGOs on states' behaviors depending on the host states' regime type and the age of the influencing NGOs. I also argue that NGOs influence states' foreign policy behaviors toward other states both directly and indirectly, functioning as information providers, lobbying groups, agenda setters, and norm generators. By applying these theoretical arguments to the field of international development, the influence of NGOs on states' decisions about foreign aid is analyzed with the case of the United States. A new time-series cross-sectional dataset of the activities of US-based NGOs in developing countries is constructed by utilizing annual reports of NGOs, websites, and through personal communication with NGO officers. In addition, another new dataset is constructed about the number of New York Time articles. With constructed datasets, the quantitative studies are conducted. The quantitative studies show that as number of US-based NGO field operations in developing countries increase, that country is significantly more likely to receive higher amounts of aid from the United States. NGOs that have longer operations in developing countries are also more effective at lobbying the United States to provide more foreign aid. Furthermore, empirical analyses show that as number of US-based NGO activities increase in a country, the media coverage of that country increases. The qualitative analyses of NGOs' influence on states' foreign policy behaviors are also conducted. Interviews with NGO workers, governmental officials, and a reporter from the New York Times provide insight about how NGOs interact with the US government. In addition, these interviews show that NGOs function as information providers, lobbying groups, agenda setters, and norm generators. The theoretical understand of NGO-state relationships will contribute to the study of NGOs and NGOs' interaction with states. In addition, empirical analyses with newly constructed dataset and interviews with people in the field will become an important asset to social scientists in this field. The study also has a great potential to be expanded by including more NGO data, issue areas, and other countries' NGOs.

Abstract:
NGOs have been actively involved in both global and national policy processes resulting to promotion of human rights. However, NGOs involvement in policy process heavily depends on their success, since policy makers choose to engage only successful NGOs. In determining whether NGOs are successful, indicators of NGO success should be evident in their operations. This thesis focuses on three indicators of NGOs success namely, sufficient resources, embeddedness in the community and an already established success in the country where NGOs are geographically located, with an aim to show that successful NGOs have a role in policy process, and such NGOs promote enjoyment of rights such as right to health and freedom from discrimination. The indicators are related to each other and are equally important for an NGO to gain success. Therefore, indicators of NGOs success have great impact on NGOs success that has an impact on NGOs role in policy process.

Rio de Janeiro is among the cities with the highest amount of NGOs in the world. However, not all of the projects carried out by the NGOs are equally successful. In this research, I would like to analyze a selection of some of the most well-known social development enterprises operating in Rio, in order to better understand how they operate, what difficulties they face, which factors play the crucial role in achieving peak performance. Moreover, I would like to compare the field research findings with the academic theory on management of social development NGOs, and possibly come up with ideas for further improvements.

Abstract:
The article deals with the Slovenian non-governmental organisations (NGO), NGO classification in Slovenian legislation and stresses the specific task of human resource management of the non-governmental organisations, namely for the work processes to be executed managers have to engage the volunteers at hand not only their employees. The employees in the Slovenian NGO sector are scarce, even though the European average (EU-28) of NGO paid employment compared to total paid employment is five times higher than in Slovenia. The text therefore presents the comparison of paid employment to total employment and total worth of voluntary work in Slovenian and EU NGOs. The Slovenian human resource management research in NGO is overviewed to argue why NGO leaders’ competency modelling would be the right step forward for Slovenian NGOs.

Abstract:
The paper is dedicated to the analysis of the role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in improving road safety in the Republic of Serbia, with a specific focus on the local context, namely their role in the units of local self-government. Considering different approaches, challenges, and contributions of NGOs in the field of road safety, the paper thoroughly explores strategies these organizations employ to reduce traffic collisions, their consequences, and to raise awareness among participants about responsible behavior in traffic. The paper emphasizes the importance of specific challenges faced by NGOs, highlighting their limited resources as a key factor. It also underscores the need for effective collaboration with state authorities while emphasizing the crucial role of autonomy for NGOs in achieving goals in the field of road safety. Analyzing specific contributions of NGOs, the paper focuses on their role in public education about road safety, promotion of traffic culture, advocacy for improvements in traffic policies, and providing support to victims of traffic collisions. It particularly emphasizes that these activities not only contribute to the current improvement of road safety but also lay the foundation for long-term and sustainable enhancement of road safety. By recognizing the importance of NGO autonomy, the paper provides insight into key elements influencing the effectiveness of their activities in the field of road safety.

Abstract:
Under the background of government purchasing public services (GPPS), the development of NGOs faces new opportunities and challenges. To promote the development of NGOs and optimize the quality of public services. This paper analyzes the internal problems of NGOs undertaking GPPS, such as structural mismatch, low employee autonomy, high mobility and lack of professionalism, and government departments in the GPPS management loopholes, unclear regulatory responsibilities, inadequate supervision and other external factors. With the help of 7S model, this paper puts forward that the government provides a good cooperation environment for NGOs to undertake public service projects by changing management mode, strengthening system construction and training employees. NGOs define their own positioning by formulating strategic planning, matching the demand structure of public services, improving working methods, and updating service concepts. The government and NGOs work together to achieve the win-win goal of optimizing public service quality and promoting the development of NGOs.

Abstract:
Nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) have played their role in political processesfor centuries, continuing to expand their activity and engage the public. The NGO sector in Latvia is young in comparison with Western countries. The first organisations emerged in Latvia after the country regainedthe second independence in the 1990s. The NGO sector in Latvia does not differ from that in other countries and has retaining its nature – any organisation is established voluntarily by a group of individuals with similar beliefs to advocate public interests at political level, for non-commercial purposes and with no government influence. Statistical data show the engagement of the public in NGO activities, which is promoted by progress in the world and such opportunities of the digital era as the Internet, mobile applications, social networks or e-platforms that can inform and mobilise the public fast for tackling some problem. As the NGO sector developed and its scope of activity expanded, new problems were identified, e.g. inability to establish a single system for the activity and financial transparency of organisations. To exist in a long-term, NGOs need to adapt to a system. Organisations that have built up experience and made achievements represent future potential for new public activists in their work with public administration entities and decision-makers to meet the public’s needs and in the interests of the public, thus, in cooperation, making a better and wealthier life for the country’s residents. The research aim is to analyse the NGO sector in Latvia. The research employed the following methods: monographic, descriptive, analysis and synthesis, as well as logical construction.

Abstract:
The FRONTIERS project worked with three Bolivian NGOs (Prosalud, the Center for Research, Education and Services or CIES, and the Association of Rural Health Programs or APSAR) to improve their ability to conduct research on market analysis and cost recovery. Following a one-week workshop on conducting cost studies, staff from the three NGOs designed operations research studies to help with decisions on planning and cost recovery. Study findings showed that cost recovery varied from high (Prosalud, 83-109%) to low (CIES, 38-46%) and very low (APSAR, 10-25%), depending on the service. All three studies focused on alternative options to client fees, including developing new services or market approaches (Prosalud), controlling costs (CIES), and continued donor support (APSAR).
