Exodus Industrious has many beginnings, but few endings. Exodus Industrious is two parallel tales, told as one, which ultimately arrive at a critical moment in the history of the Americanism. Exodus is the story of capitalism and industry, and its antithetical decline which destabilizes a nation. Industrious is the story of the American Dream, a prodigal tale of the excess of Americanism, which was once rooted in a belief that if one possessed the characteristics of hard-work and self reliance, that they would ultimately reap the rewards of status, wealth, and power. Exodus Chronicles the rise and fall of the capitalistic state, while Industrious chronicles the industrious nature of the everyday American. The intersection of American industrial decline and the American dream, has prompted a new architectural vision of both. A vision which reacts to the failures of industry in solving societal problems, and the failure of the American Dream to sustain livelihoods. The vision seeks to mix the two, Industry and Domesticity, and recast them as an architectural solution to the problem which both have created. A rampant foreclosure crisis and skyrocketing unemployment. This new vision of the American Dream will be played out on a site in North East Detroit, in the Kettering Neighborhood. The Neighborhood is one of many which had been ravaged by the foreclosure crisis, as well as, the departure of a Major factory (The Packard Automobile Company) which would have once secured the livelihood of many of the residents of the Kettering Neighborhood, as well as, Detroit at Large. The proposal seeks to create an Anti-Capitalist Manufacturing Settlement, founded on the premise of Urban Revolution. The intention is to create four new Architectural Typologies Based on the Home, The Factory, The Warehouse and the Big-Box Superstore, which will attempt confront the political and social injustices which these typologies have arguably created, and propose a new interaction between them, which ultimately prompt a re-writing of the American Dream. We live in a nation in which 80% of the wealth is controlled by the top 5% of the populous, leaving the rest of us with no other option but Revolution. Revolution cannot be simply taken up as an occupation, or protest, it must be embodied via re-thinking the city, and re-assuming the right to the city, through the establishment of new architectural typologies. Architecture and Urban Space have the power to organize the masses, means of production, and the re-production of culture and through clever thinking, outside of the influence of capitalism, a new vision for the city can and must be envisioned. The intention of the thesis is to consider a new history, or a re-writing of an old one as the grounds for an architectural proposal. The American Dream and the rhetoric which surrounds it is the founding basis for action. The thesis seeks to examine the relationship between the single family home, manufacturing production, the maintenance of surplus value, and the distribution of commodities to a wider populous, while operating at the scale of a neighborhood of 3,000 - 5,000 people.

Full textThis study proposes to examine the industrialization of Brazil in the context of economic and political changes in the first government of Getulio Vargas, from 1930 until 1945. In the literature of the Brazilian economy with the coming of industry in Brazil, two visions are in opposition: on one hand, industrialization as a byproduct of government intervention in the coffee sector, on the other, deliberately promoted industrialization by the government. Based on an analysis of equilibrium in a dynamic game of imperfect information, rationality is evident from the creation of institutions for industrial development in the 1930s. The result shows the changes of equilibrium in which Brazil went from the 1930s, with changes in the tax structure, educational, financial and labor relations, that institutional change created fertile ground for the rise of industrialization that characterized the first Vargas government and also shows the intention of this government, when one observes the transformation of the tax system, so be immune to external economic fluctuations and also educational changes, which came to encourage the primary, secondary and technical vocational, measures designed to meet the new economic landscape of Brazil. Another point that confirms the outcome of the Nash equilibrium is perfect in subgame the loss of the importance of the coffee sector in the period that includes the nineteenth century until the end of the first Vargas government, where the evidence shows that farmers had, since the decade of 1930, to diversify investment trends due to the loss of income to the grower industry.

Full textThis thesis examines the textile industrial village of New Lanark (Scotland). Founded in 1785 and now a World Heritage site, it is mostly renowned for its reputation as a « model » factory, thanks to its association with Robert Owen (1771-1858), himself considered the « Father of British socialism ». It argues that such myth-making must be studied in context in order to grasp both its scope and significance, submitting it to a deconstruction and reconstruction process. Firstly, the history of the industrial village will be studied in the context of the Industrial Revolution in order to understand the specificities of this type of settlement, namely its close links with so-called « paternalistic » management methods. Examining paternalist discourses also sheds light on the foundations and formation of Owen’s thought, as he used New Lanark as a testbed for an experiment in social reform. Secondly, the industrial village will be studied per se in order to confront its internal dynamics with the application of Owen’s policies. Thirdly, we will analyse how New Lanark was received in its day, as Owen launched a campaign for the promotion of his doctrine, which amounted to the birth of the first British socialist movement in the late 1820s. The pioneering status which both New Lanark and Owen have been awarded also need to be analysed in relation to the latter’s labelling as a « utopian socialist ». The making of this tradition can therefore be understood as a series of strategic processes whereby Owen has been integrated into the socialist canon despite his supposed eccentricities and thanks primarily to his enlightened management policies at New Lanark, thus establishing him as the founder of a distinctively British socialism owing nothing to Marxism
Zhou, Rongyan. "Exploration of opportunities and challenges brought by Industry 4.0 to the global supply chains and the macroeconomy by integrating Artificial Intelligence and more traditional methods." Electronic Thesis or Diss., université Paris-Saclay, 2021. http://www.theses.fr/2021UPAST037.
Full textIndustry 4.0 is a significant shift and a tremendous challenge for every industrial segment, especially for the manufacturing industry that gave birth to the new industrial revolution. The research first uses literature analysis to sort out the literature, and focuses on the use of “core literature extension method” to enumerate the development direction and application status of different fields, which devotes to showing a leading role for theory and practice of industry 4.0. The research then explores the main trend of multi-tier supply in Industry 4.0 by combining machine learning and traditional methods. Next, the research investigates the relationship of industry 4.0 investment and employment to look into the inter-regional dependence of industry 4.0 so as to present a reasonable clustering based on different criteria and make suggestions and analysis of the global supply chain for enterprises and organizations. Furthermore, our analysis system takes a glance at the macroeconomy. The combination of natural language processing in machine learning to classify research topics and traditional literature review to investigate the multi-tier supply chain significantly improves the study's objectivity and lays a solid foundation for further research. Using complex networks and econometrics to analyze the global supply chain and macroeconomic issues enriches the research methodology at the macro and policy level. This research provides analysis and references to researchers, decision-makers, and companies for their strategic decision-making

Since the first Industrial Revolution, humanity has been undergone profound transformations. Approximately 200 years we have taken a leap from a technological, economic and social point of view. These changes were also marked by serious crises and conflicts. Twenty first century has brought new discoveries that promise to trigger even more significant changes, because besides the change itself, we will have to deal with the speed with which they happen. Next decades, every economic and social system, professional and personal relationships will be redefined, with an enormous “explosive potential”, Baldwin (2019, p. 5). Among the greatest impacts of these changes are labor relations. Given this, it is necessary to discuss the potential impacts of new technologies on employment. If technological tools come to do a large part of the activities performed today by humans, there may be mass unemployment and a reduction in consumption power, decreasing, the demand for goods produced in Industry 4.0. In this work, we seek to analyze historically, how the society was affected by changes in the production process, in addition, we try to verify how much the current society is aware of the potential impact of new technologies, for this, we carry out a quantitative field research with individuals from Brazil and Portugal. The results confirmed what other studies had already revealed, that Industry 4.0 has the potential to replace much of the existing workforce and may increase social inequality. Besides, there is a consensus among interviewers that governments, schools, businesses and individuals have a great responsibility in facing those challenges.
