Abstract:
This is a largely qualitative, part quantitative, inquiry into the effectiveness of classroom modelling in helping tertiary students prepare for their AS-level examinations. Classroom modelling, a form of peer modelling developed by the author, draws substantially upon neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), a discipline regarded as controversial in education. Classroom modelling involves students investigating each other's more successful practices and drawing out elements that might be woven into their own practice.

Abstract:
This study aimed at scrutinizing Milton Hyland Ericksons theoretical framework and therapeutic methodology with a view to the understanding of their relevance to the so-called strategic therapy. That aim was carried out through analyses of issues such as Ericksons professional experience, his shared points and differences with Freudian hypnosis and particularly his patterns of discourse as well as his very clinical technique. Those analyses were accomplished under the guidance of the Metamodel and the Milton Model as proposed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder within the references and concepts comprised in the Neuro-Linguistic Programming such as representational systems, filters, modeling, mirroring and rapport. In order to ground and illustrate the theoretical analyses, this work was enriched by the scrutiny of three Ericksonian clinical cases. This strategy proved to be effective since it has provided evidences about both Ericksons language patterns and empirical data for the observation of the categories and subcategories of the Metamodel and Miltons Model, as a kind of a quest for validation of his theory and methods. The results put into light Ericksons understanding of the therapeutic work

Abstract:

Abstract:
This study aims at presenting the origins of the Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), its main ideas, theoretical presuppositions and goals. Furthermore, it will be analyzed the meta-model, its relationship with language and its exploitation through the modeling process, all based on the book The structure of magic I: a book about language and therapy, by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, the founders of NLP. Moreover, it will be examined the transformations obtained from the derivation process, based on Noam Chomsky´s Transformational-generative grammar, with the goal of verifying its relationship with the meta-model. When exploiting the subject´s discourse submitted for the process of modeling, it will be verified in which way the new semantic contents revealed by the transformations could influence that subject and made him alter his vision of the world. For this analysis, it will be investigated also the classic theories of Argumentation, especially the conviction and persuasion concepts. It will also be verified that the process of modeling can offer resources to the subject, for him to enhance his linguistic vocabulary, to learn new meanings from his own sentences and to be able to persuade and convince himself through deliberating with his inner self.

Oberholzer, Charl. "The role of Neuro Linguistic Programming in improving organisational leadership through intrapersonal communication development." Diss., 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/41285.

Full text
Abstract:
In today’s rapidly changing world of work, where dramatic, unpredictable and complex change is redefining the way in which organisations are to be managed, a realisation has emerged that the intra- and interpersonal communication techniques of people are fundamental in organisational success. This study argues that Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) consists of the necessary techniques to impact on an organisation, while its communication model and leadership behaviour adds to achieving organisational success. Previous research in NLP has been done mostly in disciplines such as psychology and linguistics, but a call is made to apply NLP in an organisational context. Little empirical evidence exists with regards to the benefits of NLP techniques while even fewer evidence is available in a South African context. In this study NLP’s relationship with Emotional Intelligence, the development of leadership, the corporate world and several communication theories are explored so as to understand the value it can contribute in a time where the concept of organisational success is being re-defined. An integrated framework of organisational success, incorporating NLP, Emotional Intelligence and intrapersonal communication, is introduced that serves as an additional guideline to measure the elements of organisational success in organisations, leaders or communication models. This framework also leads to the conclusion that organisations, leaders and communication models making use of NLP are better off than those not making use of it. The benefits of NLP include motivating employees, managing conflict and self-motivation, managing emotional states, communicating effectively, building trust, increasing productivity, improving customer care, strategic planning, setting goals as well as aligning visions and better flexibility. This study establishes that intelligent leadership, the application of NLP techniques to the intra- and interpersonal communication behaviour and management approaches of leaders, can be correlated with organisational success. This is done by means of a case study on the Solidarity Movement, a large non-profit organisation in South-Africa, where five strategic leaders are analysed who are believed to be using and have implemented NLP in the organisation. The result is that evidence is found to support the notion that NLP improves the intra- and interpersonal behaviour of leaders and in turn contributes to organisational success by applying NLP in their communication and leadership behaviour. NLP is often presented as a magic toolkit for the self-improvement of individuals and have since recently relied more on presuppositions than either qualitative or quantitative research. This study adds to the credibility of NLP as an increasingly important instrument for communication management as a discipline.

Von, Krosigk Beate Christine. "Facilitating forgiveness: an NLP approach to forgiving." Thesis, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/10500/1480.

Full text
Abstract:
Facilitating forgiveness: an NLP approach to forgiving is an attempt at uncovering features of the blocks that prevent people to forgive. These blocks to forgiveness can be detected in the real life situations of the six individuals who told me their stories. The inner thoughts, feelings and the subsequent behaviour that prevented them from forgiving others is clearly uncovered in their stories. The facilitation process highlights the features that created the blocks in the past thus preventing forgiveness to occur. The blocks with their accompanying features reveal what needs to be clarified or changed in order to eventually enable the hurt individuals to forgive those who have hurt them. The application of discourse analysis to the stories of hurt highlights the links between the real life stories of the individuals within their contexts with regard to unforgiveness to the research findings of the existing body of knowledge, thereby creating a complexly interwoven comprehensive understanding of the individuals' thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in conjunction with their developmental phases within their socio-cultural contexts. Neuro-linguistic-programming (NLP) is the instrument with which forgiving is facilitated in the six individuals who expressed their conscious desire to forgive, because they were unable to do so on their own. Their emotions had the habit of keeping them in a place in which they were forced to relive the hurtful event as if it were happening in the present. Arresting the process of reliving negative emotions requires a new way of being in this world. The assumption that this can be learnt is based on the results from a previous study, in which forgiveness was uncovered by means of the grounded theory approach as a cognitive process (Von Krosigk, 2000). The results from the previous research in conjunction with the results and insights from this research study are presented in the form of a grounded theory model of forgiveness.

Abstract:
In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4 IR), there are various legal tasks that are becoming increasingly automated, and hence, it is no longer sufficient for law students to only know the law. Today's law graduates have to be equipped with skills that can future-proof their careers from automation; hence, the onus is on education providers to embed those skills in the curriculum. In an attempt to address the identified skills gap and better enable graduate work readiness, augmented reality (AR) and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) have been introduced into a law module at Taylor's University to encourage first-year law students to learn law using AR and utilise NLP techniques to deliver a human element through digital learning. Through the interpretation of students' feedback from a module survey, this chapter aims to understand student learning experience on the role of AR and NLP in facilitating and enhancing their legal studies and preparing the graduate more effectively for the workplace.

Abstract:
Knowledge and learning capabilities assist organizations to become more innovative and adaptive as the capabilities help organizations to recognize and assimilate knowledge and apply it toward new ends. The development of the capabilities becomes critical if organizations are to become and remain competitive. Previous literature-based research suggests that Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) helps to facilitate the development of knowledge and learning capabilities in organizations. NLP suggests that subjective experience is encoded in terms of three main representation systems namely: Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (VAK). Based on 15 qualitative in-depth semi-structured interviews across 7 Australian nonprofit organizations, this chapter argues that NLP may be used as a key approach for nurturing organizational knowledge and learning capabilities for innovation in the knowledge economy. Examples are used in the chapter to illustrate the possible benefits of utilizing NLP in developing the capabilities for organizational innovativeness. Future research direction and limitations are also discussed.

Abstract:
Speaking of the preliminary findings of this chapter and considering empirical data observed in the course of stock exchange trading, it is possible to forge a connection between the actual behavior of the investors and the NLP meta-program classes. In particular, there is a palpable correspondence between the 13 distinct meta-program categories affecting workplace motivation and performance, commonly known as the language and behaviour profile or LAB Profile, of Shelle Rose Charvet, and the behavior patterns of investors. This may represent a development of the idea of “the conventional wisdom” formulated in his time by John Kenneth Galbraith. However, in its new incarnation of collective conscious and collective subconscious, it may affect decision making processes around the globe.

HCI-related subjects need to be considered to make e-learning more effective; examples of such subjects are: psychology, sociology, cognitive science, ergonomics, computer science, software engineering, users, design, usability evaluation, learning styles, teaching styles, communication preference, personality types, and neuro-linguistic programming language patterns. This article discusses the way some components of HI can be introduced to increase the effectiveness of e-learning by using an intuitive interactive e-learning tool that incorporates communication preference (CP), specific learning styles (LS), neurolinguistic programming (NLP) language patterns, and subliminal text messaging. The article starts by looking at the current state of distance learning tools (DLTs), intelligent tutoring systems (ITS) and “the way we learn”. It then discusses HI and shows how this was implemented to enhance the learning experience.

Abstract:
The impact Covid-19 had on people's lives over the last couple of years is still an evolving challenge and a field of ongoing research. The so-called 'new normal' or 'post-Covid world' seems to be more of an elusive, fluid, ever-changing scenario rather than a stable reality as many initially expected or even hoped after the initial global pandemic outbreak. While unprecedented efforts from Governments and international organisms take place, experts in different disciplines –from epidemiologists to economists– are fully dedicated to researching, distilling insights and analysing results to not only assess and measure the actual 'live' impact of the –now turned endemic– pandemic yet also to forecast short and long-term implications. Yet, despite all this effort addressing the effect on the physical and mental wellbeing of individuals, communities and businesses, Educators are facing their specific challenge: teaching in an unknown and ever-changing paradigm. Adapting between intermittently teaching on-campus, remotely, and in hybrid models –mixing virtual and physical classrooms– Educators are finding themselves prototyping 'live' and testing in short sprints, attempting to adapt or even redesign pre-existing curriculums and methodologies. Is this working? What is the impact –tangible and intangible– in the learning outcomes and the students' experience? Is there even time for reflection, iteration and reassessment when the realities and context themselves are constantly shifting? Furthermore, there is an underlying challenge: how to keep students engaged 'remotely' when it is hard to understand the challenges they face in their 'home bubbles'?. Reimagining Design Education in a new context is an article that explores how the new global dynamics impact specifically the Design education ecosystem and mainly focuses on how this affects the mindsets and emerging behaviours of Educators and young University Students (who are only becoming familiar with the Design world). Tracing parallels between Design education and industry-based practice, the exploratory journey in the manuscript takes into consideration foundational education, philosophical essays and incorporates different points of view –from Design Educators to concepts coming from Positive Psychology and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Reimagining Design Education in a new context challenges the paradigms of core Design Education methodologies and aims to understand better the tensions between the current and potential future models and how this could impact the learning journey. Nevertheless, it also inspects how this relates to the Design Educators and Design Students' mindsets and behaviours beyond School, incorporating the challenges they face in this new non-conventional paradigm (including the students growing relationship with technology). As a piece of research, it does not offer final crystalised answers or solutions yet instead poses critical questions and offers an open dialogue with diverse points of view.
