Abstract:
Creation of vacuum is very slow, energetically and technologicaly demanding process. Closing of valve is very simple and fast process which produces pressure surges when moving cylinder of fluid is stopped. The goal of this thesis is to find out, if it is possible to combine these processes. To reach this goal, 1D model of compressible gas flow and pressure surges in direct pipeline was made. Then follows experimental measurement evaluation and assessment of potential that the technology offers.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on ingestion of foreign objects into standard turboprop engine GE H80 situated in aircraft Let L-410 Turbolet. Aim of this study is to create methodology of numerical simulation of particle movement inside the engine, which could be used during design process of Inertial Particle Separator device. Thesis consists of backward-facing step benchmark study which validates used methodology. Second part describes flow field calculation and numerical setup. The last part is dedicated to particle tracking analysis. Simulated trajectories are visually investigated, and coordinates of particle impacts at 1st rotor of a compressor are correlated to position of real observed damage.

Abstract:
This work is concerned with the theoretical analysis of the space-time discontinuous Galerkin method applied to the numerical solution of nonstationary nonlinear convection-diffusion problem in a time- dependent domain. At first, the problem is reformulated by the use of the arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) method, which replaces the classical partial time derivative by the so-called ALE derivative and an additional convection term. Then the problem is discretized with the use of the ALE space-time discontinuous Galerkin method. On the basis of a technical analysis we obtain an unconditional stability of this method. An important step in the analysis is the generalization of a discrete characteristic function associated with the approximate solutionin a time-dependentdomainand the derivationof its properties. Further we derive an a priori error estimate of the method in terms of the interpolation error, as well as in terms of h and tau. Finally, some practical applications of the ALE space-time discontinuos Galerkin method in a time-dependent domain are given. We are concerned with the numerical solution of a nonlinear elasticity benchmark problem and moreover with the interaction of compressible viscous flow with elastic structures. The main attention is paid to the modeling of flow induced vocal fold...

Abstract:
We prove a global-in-time and large-data existence of a suitable weak solution to a system of partial differential equations describing an unsteady flow of homogeneous incom- pressible viscoelastic rate-type fluid. The material parameters are continuous functions of temperature and, in particular, the dependence of the shear modulus is assumed to be linear. It is shown that studied models obey the fundamental laws of thermodynamics. The key step towards the existence proof is derivation of the balance of entropy. This in- equality is paramount in the analysis and as its consequence, we obtain sufficient a priori estimates, positivity of temperature and also regularity of the elastic deformation. The second part of the thesis deals with the existence analysis for the isothermal case, however using a completely different method, which is of independent interest. 1

Abstract:
The development of computational fluid dynamics has given us a very powerful tool for investigation of fluid dynamics. However, in order to maintain the progress, it is necessary to improve the numerical algorithms. Nowadays, the high-order methods based on the discontinuous projection seem to have the largest potential for the future. In the work, we used open-source framework Nektar++, which provides the high-order discretization method. We tested the abilities of the framework for computing the compressible sonic and transonic flow. We successfully obtained simulations of the viscous and inviscid flow. We computed the lift and the drag coefficients and showed that for a higher polynomial order we can obtain the same accuracy with less degrees of freedom and lower computational time. Also, we tested the shock capturing method for the computation of the inviscid transonic flow and confirmed the potential of the high order methods. 1

Abstract:
In the thesis we study incompressible turbulent flow using spectral element method (SEM). We present fundamentals of SEM which can be seen as a combination of spectral method and finite element method. Turbulent flow is described with the help of two-equation k-ω turbulence models. We give reasons for the choice of Kolmogorov's and Wilcox model and implement them in 2D into an existing SEM C++ framework, Nektar++. Analytical solutions of Navier- Stokes equation were found and used as test cases for the implementation of the models. We simulated turbulent flow in channel and compared the results with direct numerical simulation. 1

Abstract:
In the present thesis we study the compressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier sys- tem. This is a system of partial differential equations describing the evolutionary problem for an adiabatic flow of a heat conducting compressible viscous fluid in a bounded domain. Here we consider the problem in two dimensions with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions for velocity. The cold pressure term in the pressure law for the momentum equation is here considered in the form pC(ϱ) ∼ ϱ logα (1+ϱ) for some α > 0, for which we need to work on the scale of Orlicz spaces in order to obtain useful estimates and in those space we formulate the problem weakly and also establish the weak compactness of the solution. The main result of this thesis is Theorem 6.1 where we show the existence of a weak solution with no assumptions on the size of the data and on arbitrary large time intervals. 1

Abstract:
Title: Flows of incompressible fluids with pressure-dependent viscosity (and their application to modelling the flow in journal bearing) Author: Martin Lanzendörfer Department: Mathematical Institute of Charles University Supervisor: prof. RNDr. Josef Málek, DSc. Abstract: The viscosity of the fluids involved in hydrodynamic lubrication typically depends on pressure and shear rate. The thesis is concerned with steady isothermal flows of such fluds. Generalizing the recent results achieved in the case of homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions, the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions subject to the boundary conditions employed in practical applications will be established. The second part is concerned with numerical simulations of the lubrication flow. The experiments indicate that the presented finite element method is successful as long as certain restrictions on the constitutive model are met. Both the restrictions involved in the theoretical results and those indicated by the numerical experiments allow to accurately model real-world lubricants in certain ranges of pressures and shear rates. The last part quantifies those ranges for three representative lubricants. Keywords: existence and uniqueness of weak solutions, finite element method, pressure- thickening, shear-thinning, incompressible fluids,...
