Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This Thesis examines the ideology, politics and organization of the Australian Extreme Right 1975-1995. Its central interpretative theme is the response of the Extreme Right to the development of the Australian State from a conservative Imperial structure into an American "anti-communist" client state, and ultimately into a liberal-internationalist machine which integrated Australia into a globalized capitalist order. The Extreme Right after 1975 differed from the various paramilitaries of the 1930's and the conservative anti-communist auxiliary organizations of the 1945-75 period. Post 1975, it lost its preoccupation with fighting the Left, and progressively grew as a challenger to liberal-internationalism. The abandonment of "White Australia" and consequent non-European immigration were the formative catalysts of a more diverse and complex Extreme Right. The Thesis uses a working definition of generic fascism as "palingenetic populist ultra-nationalism", to measure the degree of ideological and political radicalization achieved by the Extreme Right. This family of political ideas, independent of the State and mobilized beyond the limits of the former-period auxiliary conservatives, expressed itself in an array of organizational forms. The complexity of the Extreme Right can be demonstrated by using four typologies: Radical Nationalism, Neo-Nazism, Populist-Monarchism and Radical-Populism, each with specific points to make about social clienteles, geographical distribution, particular ideological heritages, and varied strategies and tactics. The Extreme Right could mobilize from different points of opportunity if political space became available. Inevitably a mutual delegitimization process between State and Extreme Right led to public inquiries and the emplacement of agencies and legislation to restrict the new radicalism. This was understandable since some Extreme Right groups employed violence or appeared to perform actions preparatory thereto. It also led to show-trials and para-State crime targeted against particular groups especially in the period 1988-91. Thereafter, Extreme Right organizations pursued strategies which led to electoral breakthroughs, both rural and urban as a style of Right-wing populist politics unfolded in the 1990's. It was in this period that the Extreme Right encouraged the co-optation by the State of the residual Left in the anti-racist fight. This seemed natural, as the Extreme Right's vocal references to popular democracy, national independence and the nativist heritage, had permitted it to occupy the Old Left's traditional ground. In that way too, it was "The Other Radicalism".

Abstract: This research attempts to apprehend the symbolic universe of racist, revisionist and neonazi pages in the Internet. The aim of the investigation is to understand what kind of relationship is built between the digital space and the defense of the idea of an "Aryan race" attempted by my 'natives¿. This is done by means of ethnographic observation of practices and discoursive representations posted at sites, forums, communities, chats and discussion lists. I focus on those symbolics aspects that highlight best the interface between digital space and racism, by means of both empirical research and theoretical exercise. From this vantage point, some features of the identitary construction developed by racists for themselves and for others were made visible, namely, the genomic and mythic marks of their discourse, the redefinition of the frontiers between digital world and reality, and the ¿aryan¿ political struggle in the WEB. The main argument resulting from this research is that the neonazism interprets symbolically the contemporary world by articulating myths, narratives e rituals. Along this process, a specific way of identity is manifested: the ¿teutonicism¿

Orkut is a virtual environment in which many discursive practices are developed in and under determination of historical ways of existence. Many of its users expose their imaginary that constitute themselves as subjects. The main characteristic of this kind of practice is the inconsistence of meaning, which avoid users to make a constantly (re)construction and produces an affect of autonomy on them. This can be observed in extreme groups formation, like the neo-Nazi ones. In this volubility of meanings, organized through different linguistic forms, the contradiction concept can be found, here understood on the light of historical materialism perspective. This paper takes historical materialism as the priority focus on neo-Nazi discourses found on Orkut, which failed ideas and, even criminal, are related to discrimination and reintroduction of extreme presuppositions and doctrinaire frenzies, widely rejected by society. The linguistic materialism elements are observed according to its concept, which makes possible the recognition of knowledge elements involved, coming from different interdiscourse regions in discourse processes observed. Analyses avoid the identification of representations linked to a imaginary that acts in symbolic process trough related knowledge, related to different discourse formations

Abstract:
This volume combines contributions to a conference Grenzen der Toleranz. Rechtsextremes Milieu und demokratische Gesellschaft in Brandenburg – Bilanz und Perspektiven („The Limits of Tolerance. Far Right Milieus and Democratic Society in Brandenburg – Results and Perspectives“) held in Potsdam in May 2009. At this conference, several scholars held lectures and were commented by practitioners. The contributions to the book discuss different aspects of the far right movements and its praxis in Brandenburg and beyond, and they introduce and analyze the reactions and counter-activities of the state as well as the civil society. Thus, it becomes obvious: Right wing extremism is still a challenge for democratic society in Brandenburg, but this society has also developed multiple and effective strategies to react.

Abstract:
Right-wing extremism and national socialism (Nazism) are not a new phenomenon in Sweden. White supremacists or neo-Nazis have a long history in the country. Nordic Resistance Movement (Nordiska motståndsrörelsen, NMR) rests on this century-long history of Swedish Nazi and Neonazi activism. Including racism, antisemitism, anti-immigration, and anti-globalisation stances with violent tendencies, NMR which aims to overthrow the democratic order in the Nordic region and establish a national socialist state, has become the primary force of white power in Sweden and other Nordic countries.
