Abstract:

The article is devoted to the problem of national cinematograph in the conditions of the dominance of mass cinema products at the market, especially the American film industry. Paradigms and criteria in the definition of national (ethnic) cinema are presented. The aim of the article is to confirm its working hypothesis, which is that the development of national cinematograph becomes significant only when, reproducing by filming their own narratives, imbued with national mind-set, the authors create cinematographic artifacts with their own manner, style, language, which is able to develop and enrich the film language. The descriptive and analytical methodology used in conjunction with the historical and genetic method allows us to come to certain conclusions. These findings consist in the position that such national cinematograph becomes pervasive, which is permeated by the national mind-set and at the same time responds to both ethnic and world cultural challenges, creates national narratives that due to their relevance become meta-ethnic narratives. An analysis of the existing definitions and properties of what should be understood as national cinematograph allows one to discuss the topic of what the essence of national cinema is: in the local and regional desire to establish itself as having a right to exist, or in the meta-ethnic aspect, which allows national cinema to become a direction in cinema. Thus, the necessary property of national cinematograph for its equal existence among others, the author singles out such a feature as the situation of passionarity in which the nation lives. Its mind-set creates its own national narrative, and therefore its own cinema language. The article is the part of a fundamental study on the theory of cinema, in which the main points are categories such as "film narrative", "conventionality of cinematograph" and "film language".

Abstract:

In December 2009, the US Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President and the White House Open Government Initiative launched a public consultation on Public Access Policy. The Administration sought comments from public on the access to publicly funded research results, such as those that appear in academic and scholarly journal articles. Currently, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) require that research funded by its grants be made available to the public online, free, within 12 months of publication. The Administration canvassed opinion on whether this policy should be extended to other science agencies and, if so, how.

Monogamy is not a practice, but a system and a way of thinking. The monogamous mind extends from our romantic relationships with our national identities in a historic development linked to capitalism and colonialism. Monogamy is the latest step in the binary sex-gender system and must be observed as a part of it. Following the works of, among others, Michel Foucault, Arthur Evans, and Silvia Federici, as well as Frantz Fanon and Cedric Rodinson in colonialism, we can observe how the implementation of compulsory monogamy took place and where. Also, which are the key points to observe when we analyse forms of non-monogamy in the Occidental context.

Abstract Sexual minority (lesbian, gay, bisexual; LGB) older adults age 50+ experience a higher prevalence of chronic disease and disability, as well as a poorer physical and mental health status. Many adults use complementary and integrative therapies, particularly mind-body therapies, as health-enhancing approaches and to support wellbeing. However, no study to date has examined the use of mind-body therapies among sexual minority older adults. We examined data from the 2017 National Health Interview Survey to determine the use of mind-body therapies by sexual minority older adults (aged 50+), as well as the influence of health and wellbeing characteristics on mind-body therapy use, compared with their non-LGB counterparts. Sexual minority older adults overall reported higher usage (36%) of mind-body therapies compared with their non-LGB counterparts (22%), with lesbians reporting the highest use (41%). Sexual minority identity was a significant predictor of mind-body therapy use, with LGB adults roughly two times more likely to use a mind-body therapy after controlling for chronic disease status and other wellbeing measures. Future research is needed to explore the reasons sexual minority older adults use complementary and integrative therapies, as well as potential development of mind-body interventions targeted toward this population to address stress and quality of life.

Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death. Many people use mind-body therapies and/or prayer to assist them in smoking cessation, but more information on their effectiveness is needed. In the 2002 National Health Interview Survey, 5,864 persons aged 18 or older reported smoking in the prior 12 mo.; among these, users of any of 10 mind-body therapies or prayer were compared to nonusers to assess smoking cessation attempts and smoking cessation over a 1-yr. period. Weighted logistic regression showed that the adjusted odds of reporting quit attempts during the year prior to interview or of reporting no longer smoking at interview were significantly higher in those using prayer alone, any mind-body therapy alone, or both, compared with those who used neither. In the subset of 2,839 persons who reported smoking 12 mo. prior to interview and attempting to quit during the year prior to interview, the odds of reporting no longer smoking at interview were no greater for those who used prayer, any mind-body therapy, or both, than in those using neither.

Abstract:

Following the September 2010 and February 2011 Canterbury earthquakes the Stronger Canterbury Strategic Planning Framework was developed by the National Psychosocial Response Subgroup with support from the Psychosocial Recovery Advisory Group under the auspices of the Ministry of Health in conjunction with the National Health Emergency Plan (Ministry of Health, 2007, p.18). The Framework’s purpose was to provide an overarching context for the Christchurch Psychosocial Response Subgroup as well as applicable Community Wellbeing subgroups to assist in planning the psychosocial recovery in response to the Canterbury earthquakes. Within the document two essential components to the psychosocial recovery for Canterbury are identified: individual recovery and wellbeing, and the building of community resilience while supporting psychosocial wellbeing. Implicit in the document is the notion that provided the right supports are in place, recovery will occur. This article argues the current pervasive neo-liberal perspective has hampered the ability of those supports to be fully realised. To begin, the strategic planning aims of addressing individual psychosocial wellbeing and community resilience will be defined in this review. Secondly, examples illustrating how the pervading neo-liberal perspective has contributed to the failure of the policy to assist community recovery will be discussed. Examples referring to the notions of rights, equality, social justice and the Treaty of Waitangi will be provided. To conclude, the slow pace of the recovery for Cantabrians has had, and continues to have, multiple implications for the social work community. It is over two years on from the first earthquake, and much of the population are still struggling to gain equilibrium. Social workers in Canterbury have been working tirelessly to improve outcomes for clients. It is suggested it is time social work as a national body advocates for the stakeholders to pay more attention to the original intent of the framework.

Edward Snowden, the systems analyst employed by a contractor for the United States National Security Agency, violated his contractual obligation to guard the nation's secrets and security procedures out of what he has argued was a higher obligation to preserve the privacy guaranteed to Americans by the United States Constitution and a conscientious objection to withholding information about violations of that privacy. Conscience can be conceived as a disposition of heart, mind, and will to act or refuse to act in the face of contravening authority, for what is a superior good in the mind of the actor, and always with the willingness to suffer for one's action or inaction. Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to develop an Android-based mind mapping learning media for national income material to improve students' understanding of IPS Class XI specialization. This Development Research uses Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Based on the results of trials that can be obtained that understood by students increases. The pre-test and post-test results increased by 30.6%, and the test results prove a statistically significant difference. The implications of this study confirm the application of the concept of mind mapping in interactive learning media that helps improve student learning outcomes, especially in material with complex concept construction.

The Board of Faculty of Clinical Oncologists and The Royal College of Radiologists published the first edition of explicit guidelines in 1996 for “the management of the unscheduled interruption or prolongation of a radical course of radiotherapy”.The recommendations highlighted the significant detrimental effects on local tumour relapse rates in some cancer types, when the time taken to deliver a radical radiotherapy prescription is increased.A national audit was carried out in February 2001, to establish compliance and trace ability of radiotherapy prescription delivery. The audit aimed to establish if local protocols are in place and if regular audit process took place to promote continuous improvement to treatment delivery compliance.Sixty-four radiotherapy managers were invited to participate in the study, by completing a short questionnaire. A response rate of 74% was achieved.The findings from the study indicated that the majority of radiotherapy centres within the United Kingdom have a protocol for the management of radiotherapy prescription compliance, where causes in non-compliance are documented. In contrast, a statistically significant number of radiotherapy department fail to monitor or evaluate causes of radiotherapy prolongation.The author recommends, that, in order to reduce local tumour relapse rates, the use of a strategic, robust local and national audit system must be in place.The second edition of recommendations for managing radiotherapy prolongation was published in 2002. The theme of strategic auditing remains high on the agenda.

Special Operations Forces (SOFs) are increasingly central in national defense postures worldwide. The term “SOF mind-set” encapsulates the current political enthusiasm but is rarely explicitly defined or systematically studied. Based on a literature review, this article suggests a conceptual model of SOF’s mind-set, which is refined via a Danish case study. It discusses when and where this mind-set complicates collaboration with the wider military organizational environment and how SOF could navigate potential fault lines. By systematically unpacking SOF’s mind-set, the article aims to add nuance to polarized conceptions and stereotypes.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to learn about the use, barriers, reasons and beliefs regarding mind-body practices among adults living in the United States during the beginning months of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. An on-line survey was developed following the Checklist for Reporting Results of Internet e-Surveys (CHERRIES) guidelines and using the online survey software program, Qualtrics® XM, platform. Pilot testing of the survey was conducted for usability and functionality. The final 24-item survey was distributed via email and social media. A total of 338 adults responded to the survey, with 68.8% indicating that they participated in mind-body activities since the start of the pandemic. Physical activity was the most frequently (61.5%, n = 227) used mind-body practice. Further, 2 of the common barriers to engaging in mind-body practices were lack of motivation and wandering mind. Frequently listed reasons for using mind-body practices were to promote health, reduce stress and relaxation. Respondents believed that mind-body practices resulted in less stress. These findings may be applicable for reducing psychological stress related to the pandemic, as the pandemic continues to impact many areas of the United States.

Abstract:

This article presents the ethnic structure of the population of Vojvodina according to the 2002 census results. Also, there are analyzed the ethnodemographic changes in the period 1991-2002, caused by the following relevant factors: natural movement, migration and changed declaration on national affiliation. Ethnocentric migrations (voluntary and forced) primarily influenced the change of ethnic structure of the Vojvodina, in the sense of creating a nationally more homogeneous region, having in mind the national structure of refugee-population. On the other hand, the emigration of some other nationalities which migrated to their mother countries due to political and economic reasons influenced the ethnic structure of the population, too. On the whole, the ethnic picture of Vojvodina is a complex one and undergoing changes continuously. Having in mind that Vojvodina is a multiethnic and multiconfessional region, the question of minorities and interethnic relations is undoubtedly of great significance for the stability and demographic development of this region.

Abstract The grand-ducal gallery of Oldenburg is a forgotten collection today, though once it enjoyed international fame. In less than a century, the dukes of Oldenburg in Lower Saxony collected an exemplary gallery of Old Masters that attracted the attention and the praise of international connoisseurs and art historians like Wilhelm Bode, Abraham Bredius and Tancred Borenius. Then, after the end of the First World War, the collection fell apart. In 1919, it was disassembled and its masterpieces were sold, once again generating international attention, this time from art dealers, museums and collectors eager to have their share of the plunder. The protests over this sell-out added impetus to the passing of a Kulturgutschutzgesetz, the first German law aimed at the protection of works of art of national value. This article reviews the history of the gallery and presents the results of a recent research project.

Abstract:

In 1976, the German Max Planck Society established a new research enterprise in psycholinguistics, which became the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. I was fortunate enough to be invited to direct this institute. It enabled me, with my background in visual and auditory psychophysics and the theory of formal grammars and automata, to develop a long-term chronometric endeavor to dissect the process of speaking. It led, among other work, to my book Speaking (1989) and to my research team's article in Brain and Behavioral Sciences “A Theory of Lexical Access in Speech Production” (1999). When I later became president of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, I helped initiate the Women for Science research project of the Inter Academy Council, a project chaired by my physicist sister at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. As an emeritus I published a comprehensive History of Psycholinguistics (2013). As will become clear, many people inspired and joined me in these undertakings.

Abstract:

Ethnic groups use music to promote in-group favoritism and values, but also to enhance intergroup closeness and understanding. The current study examined whether national music, often used for emphasizing intergroup separateness, can also reduce prejudice and promote theory of mind among two groups in conflict, Jews and Arabs in Israel. More specifically, the study examined whether removing a national song from its conflictual context, and introducing it in a manner which emphasizes out-group familiarity, enhances mentalization and positive attitudes between groups. Arab/Jewish women ( N = 254) were randomly divided into four groups and exposed to one of two types of national Israeli songs, a Holocaust Day song (HDS), which is not associated with the Israeli-Arab conflict, or a Memorial Day song (MDS), which is aired only on days of remembrance for Israel’s fallen soldiers, sung by either a Jewish or an Arab singer. The results demonstrated that exposure to a HDS enhanced theory of mind when it is sung by an Arab singer. Moreover, Arabs who heard the HDS demonstrated reduced prejudice against Jews, when compared with the MDS. The results demonstrate that national songs, which may be the epitome of in-group favoritism, can be used for promoting theory of mind even among adversarial groups.

This study aims to find the Application of the Mind Mapping Model with Game Scatterories in Improving Student Creativity and Learning Outcomes in the Indonesian Legislation Regulations Material in class VI of MI Nurul Huda Cimanggis Depok. The results obtained were the Application of the Mind Mapping Model with Game Scattergories, the first cycle by obtaining an average score of 69.22, in the second cycle a score of 74.18 was obtained and in the third cycle the Application of the Mind Mapping Model with Game Scattergories managed to score 77 , 90 points and succeeded in increasing the Learning Outcomes variable in National Legislation Materials and Creativity in achieving student completeness. The conclusion of the study is the Application of the Mind Mapping Model with Game Scatterories has succeeded in improving Learning Outcomes in the Material of National Legislation Regulations and Creativity of Grade VI MI Nurul Huda Cimanggis Depok. The implication of the research is to make the results of research as a reference in developing students' creativity and the concept of national legislation can be used as a guide for behavior in life in families, schools and communities. Suggestions are intended for students, teachers, principals, governments, institutions and students so that the results of this study can be a reference in the development of learning models.

Abstract:

This study aims to re-analyze the use of the Mind Mapping cooperative learning model in improving learning outcomes for elementary school students. This study uses a meta-analysis method. The population in this study is the result of research on the influence of the mind mapping type cooperative learning model in eight journals that have been published nationally in Indonesia. The sample of this research was five national journals published in the period 2010-2020 at the elementary school level, namely experimental research on the effect of the mind mapping type cooperative learning model on learning outcomes of elementary school students. The data analysis technique uses documentation data, namely in the form of searching for relevant articles related to the effect of the mind mapping cooperative learning model. The data analysis technique uses the power of the learning model (N-Gain), the mean, and the hypothetical test. Based on the big analysis the most influential in total get an average value of 54.5 with the medium effect category. The results of the analysis by calculating the t-test value also show that the mind mapping type of cooperative learning model has an effect on learning outcomes. Judging from the value of tcount (10.684)> ttable (1.89), the tcount value obtained is higher than the ttable value, so the mind mapping type cooperative learning model shows an effect on the learning outcomes of elementary school students.

After the First World War, the League of Nations, through its International Committee on Intellectual Cooperation, attempted to reshape the teaching of history in its member states. The League's supporters realized that its long-term success depended in part on supportive public opinion and that this, in turn, had implications for education. Aware of the strength of national loyalties, the League sought not to abolish the teaching of national history but to suffuse it with the spirit of the “international mind.” To this end, the League promoted revision of history textbooks and curricula, retraining of teachers, and rethinking of teaching methods. National governments responded by including some study of the League in history curricula but ignored the League's broader plans. Nonetheless, the League's attempt to internationalize the teaching of history opened up a debate that continues today as schools seek to strike a balance between claims of national and global history.

In the article is going to presented the ethnic picture of the population of the Serbia and the ethnodemographic changes in period 1991-2002, caused by migration, natural movement, changed declaration on national affiliation, as well as some political and socio-economic factors. Ethnocentric migrations (voluntary and forced) primarily influenced on the change of ethnic structure of the Serbia, in the sense of creating nationally more homogeneous region, having in mind the national structure of refugee- population. On the other side, the emigration of some other nationalities which migrated to their mother countries due to political and economic reasons influenced on the ethnic structure, too. Spatial distribution of population according to nationality is an important aspect of demographic development conditioned primarily by ethnically differentiated natural growth and migrations, but also with the impact of numerous other factors. In Serbia is present an exceptional concentration and homogenization of population of certain nationalities. Due to specific territorial distribution and ethnic domination of relevant national minorities in border parts of the country, the question of their status and territorial-political organization gives special severity and significance to the minority question in Serbia. Having in mind that Serbia is a multiethnic and multiconfessional state, the protection of minorities rights and good inter-ethnic relations are necessary for peace, stability and democratic development of the Serbia and the Balkans region.

The planned removal of a Civil War monument in Charlottesville, Virginia, was the pretext for a white supremacist rally there in August 2017. It brought American fascists back into the streets, marching under the banner of a virulent nativism, of a vicious fear of being removed from the pedestal of their proper place in society. It also brought to the minds of people watching these images on TV older visual repertoires dating back to Nazi-Germany, fascist Italy, and similar racist clashes elsewhere. In such a stream of consciousness, such a chain of visual recollections, national settings—American or otherwise—are transcended. The wandering—and wondering—mind of the observer moves in a space naturally trans- national. The following essay considers the implications of such mental processes for the established forms of discourse among historians.

From Chinese poetry, “The Tale of Kieu” to “Van chieu hon” shows a movement in Nguyen Du’s thought. The mind of Nguyen Du moved from the heart of a Confucian, in which Chinese poetry expressed life’s pains and sorrows, to the immense compassionate heart of Buddhism for sentient beings in “Van chieu hon” This article highlights that movement. At the same time, it is clear that, whether from the mind of the scholar Nguyen Du, or the mind of the Buddhist disciple Nguyen Du, the movement in Nguyen Du’s thought is also derived from a kind heart: a "thinking heart for a thousand years" of the great Vietnamese national poet.

Purpose – Although vanquished in anthropology, the notion “national culture” as a set of unique, shared, closed, enduring, coherent, determinate subjective values has been repopularized in management by Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness (GLOBE), Hofstede, and Trompenaars (the Trio). The purpose of this paper is to critique the Trio’s representation of culture and its purported consequences. Design/methodology/approach – Identifies the essential similarity of the Trio’s work by describing seven propositions they share. Drawing on research from multiple disciplines it critiques a number of these propositions. Findings – The Trio’s representation of culture functions as a conceptual cage which confines analysis to misleading and impoverished explanations of organizational and other social action. Originality/value – By describing and critiquing some of the metaphorical “bars” of the Trio’s emasculating “cage” it opens further the possibility of richer and relevant cultural research.

This article aims to describe the Budi Utomo Quotes Based on Canva Applications for National Awareness Strengthens. In order for the struggle of the Budi Utomo movement to be interpreted in depth by generations, the visual graphic media was chosen to strengthen the national awareness of the generation. This is in line with the basic principles of Budi Utomo's movement, namely the primacy of mind or mind in terms of education. The research method in this article is qualitative descriptive. The writing results describe the process and results of the use of visual graphic media that photographed Budi Utomo's movement with the aim of strengthening the national awareness of Indonesian youth so as to be able to integrate past struggles as a capital "repeating the glory of the past" through education. The hope with this article is that observers of history are able to implement historical learning easily and can adjust technological developments, but without losing their identity as a cultured nation.

AbstractThis study examines Japanese reactions to neighboring countries’ behavior by addressing possible micro-motives, such as patriotism, the rational demand for national defense, and retrospective policy evaluation. This theoretical development leads to distinctive hypotheses from different motivations and directly tests them using macro-data (not survey data). This research will apply this framework to Japanese politics and will show that foreign threats stimulate patriotism in the public mind and enhance political support for national leaders. It will also demonstrate that the Japanese public has no optimistic view of the new prime minister and that the honeymoon effect in previous research may be confounded with the patriotic effect because the new leader is less experienced and is often challenged by foreign countries.
