One of the most important applications of literature is to express the ‘presence’ of society. In that aspect, Ma. Ilankannan, the creator has succeeded in portraying the successes, failures, ups and downs, strengths and weaknesses of the Sinhalese Tamils through his short stories. His collection of short stories 'Thoondil Meen’ (Bait Fish) was awarded the 'Singapore Literary Award' by the National Book Development Council of Singapore in 2004. The protagonists of the short story ‘Elatchiyangalin Unangal’ (Disabilities of Ideals) featured in it are Pichaimuthu Kizhavar and Kuvepatti who emigrated from their native country and settled in Singai. These characters that lost their limbs and personal ties during World War II are struggling every day to survive. The purpose of this article is to explore how their dream of visiting their motherland once and for all is disabled like a dumb dream.

It was in 1638 when in our city the outstanding book was published the bibliographic value of the historical-cultural significance. Full title of the edition -«Slovenian grammar, published in 1638 Kremenets in the Epiphany typography Fraternal Monastery ", and it is known under the concise name "Kremenets grammar". At the initiative of the rectorate of the Academy were measures have been developed to commemorate the 380th anniversary the release of this book, including - Grammar and All-Ukrainian reissues scientific readings «Kremenets grammar (1638) in the context of educational and cultural development of Ukraine in the second half of the 16th - the first half of the seventeenth century. " The implementation of these measures coincided in time: at the All-Ukrainian readings, timed to the 380th anniversary of Kremenets grammar, the first were presented copies of the rare book reprinted. The updated Grammar is phototypical edition of a monument of Ukrainian culture and education of the seventeenth century. This is a guide for students - students of the Brotherhood School. Citizens in our democracy need a skill set that enables them to take action to help others, challenge bias and prejudice, and demonstrate patriotism. This article considers these skills and the role of children’s literature in the development of citizenship education in social studies classrooms. Citizenship education must incorporate powerful learning that is meaningful, value-based, challenging, and integrated within the arts, sciences, and humanities. The 2009 National Council for the Social Studies Notable picture books that are featured here bring powerful learning opportunities and prepare students to become effective, socially responsible citizens. The instructional strategies that accompany each book encourage social action, critical thinking, and conscientious decision-making, and are easily integrated within the language arts.

This compilation features nine excellent contributions from authors who studied the role of local imams and mosques in eastern Indonesia as part of the project “Being Muslim in Eastern Indonesia: Practice, Politics, and Cultural Diversity” funded by Australian Research Council Discovery Project. The research examines not only the role of imams in eastern Indonesia, but also discusses the process and sociocultural impacts of Islam on Islamic identity and religious authority in the region. Moreover, it also examines how Islam is practiced at the local level and the way in which village imams wield religious authority. By appreciating Indonesia’s cultural wealth and respecting the variety of Islamic traditions in Indonesia, this book provides insights into the development of Islam and its relationship with local traditions, which accommodate local communities, globalisation, culture and Islam.

Abstract Dysfunction of adipocytes and adipose tissue is a primary defect in obesity and obesity-associated metabolic diseases. Interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) has been implicated in adipogenesis. However, the role of IRF3 in obesity and obesity associated disorders still remains unclear. Here we show that IRF3 expression in human adipose tissue was positively associated with insulin sensitivity and negatively associated with type 2 diabetes. In mouse preadipocytes, IRF3 not only acts as a brake negatively regulating the adipogenic transcriptional network centered on the PPARg pathway, but also is important for the functionality of adipocytes. In macrophages, IRF3 inhibits inflammatory cytokine expression through IFNb/IL-10 axis, thereby restraining adipose tissue inflammation in obesity. Mice deficient in IRF3 developed obesity and type 2 diabetes spontaneously associated with increased adipose tissue inflammation. This study demonstrates that IRF3 regulates the biology of multiple cell types including adipocytes and macrophages to prevent the development of obesity and obesity-related complications, hence, could be a target for therapeutic interventions for prevention and treatment of obesity-associated metabolic disorders. The present economic situation is a poor starting point for the national libraries of Eastern Europe in their efforts to cope with the future. Political censorship is replaced with economic censorship: insufficient budgets, inadequate space for books and readers, gaps in distribution systems, and increasing transport and postal rates. But libraries are an essential element in the intellectual infrastracture and cultural dialogue; and national libraries in Eastern Europe see cooperation with similar libraries in the West as a major way of achieving development. Several countries have agreed to exchange specialists, training and education programmes already exist, and lack of acquisition funds has been somewhat mitigated by book donation programmes; but more needs to be done. The European Union is an appropriate mechanism for developing an East-West programme to improve the infrastructure through the implementation of technological policy. East-West dialogue can best be structured through the Council of Europe, which has recently expanded its membership to include Eastern and Central Europe.

The article presents the problem of spiritual achievements of the Ukrainian National-Democratic Revolution of 1917. With the legitimation of their own power institutions, Ukrainian studies became widespread, as a generalized complex of knowledge about the modern Ukrainian nation. The process of uniting Ukrainians into a political nation needed to educate and educate the society on the basis of Ukrainian values. Recognizing this important component of its development activities, the national governments of Ukraine (General Secretariat of the Ukrainian People's Republic, State Secretariat of the Western Ukrainian People's Republic, Council of Ministers of Hetmanat Paul Skoropadsky, the Council of People's Ministers during the Development of the Directory of Ukraine). Having been defeated in the struggle for the preservation of Ukrainian statehood, national forces, meanwhile, were able to preserve and show to the society the potential of Ukrainian studies as a factor in the education of ethnic identity. Even the regime of the dictatorship of the proletariat, intensified by the policy of "war communism", did not become a hindrance. Moreover, the Bolsheviks, in their own way, accepted from the national forces the "baton" of public dissemination of Ukrainian studies. Considering the latter as an effective mechanism for gaining authority among the masses, the leaders of the Communist Party and the Soviet government treated Ukrainian economics with economic prudence. Not only did the Soviet authorities retain the achievements of their opponents in the civil war, but also transformed them into their own political "indigenization" campaign, which began in 1923 and brought numerous bonuses to the Bolsheviks, both on the internal and external contours of life. The author made the aforementioned analysis and his conclusions in this article on the basis of the study of the national books in 1920, kept in the State Archives of the Book of Ukraine named after Ivan Fedorov.

DSN-MUI fatwa is a reference for the sharia standardization in Islamic financial institutions. Fatwa not only refers to primary references (Quran and Sunnah) strengthened by jurisprudence, but also secondary references such as ulamas’ opinions. This study analyzes the fatwa used as a text-based religious authority by the fatwa institution. This is a literature review which qualitative data are from primary and secondary sources collected through documentation, by reading the fatwa on Islamic finance from 2000-2012. Meanwhile, secondary data are articles, books, or studies related to the authority of religious texts in the sharia economic law discovery and development. The content analysis method was applied. This study found that of the 122 fatwas compiled in the DSN-MUI fatwa book, there were 47 fatwas (38.5%), referring to the opinions of salaf and contemporary ulamas as the basis, or as arguments and legitimacy. Based on the findings and analysis, the religion’s legitimacy and authority are at least based on two main things, the agents forming authority and references forming authority. Issuance of fatwa in sharia economic development is an attempt to reproduce the text’s authority. This study affirms previous studies reinforcing MUI as the religious authority, particularly in sharia economics.Fatwa DSN-MUI menjadi rujukan standardisasi kesyariahan sebuah lembaga keuangan syariah. Fatwa tidak hanya merujuk pada referensi primer (Quran dan sunnah) yang diperkuat dengan kaidah fikih, tetapi juga pada referensi sekunder dari pendapat para ulama. Kajian ini bertujuan menganalisa fatwa yang dijadikan otoritas keagamaan yang bertumpu pada teks oleh lembaga fatwa. Penelitian ini merupakan kajian kepustakaan dengan pendekatan kualitatif bersumber dari sumber data primer dan sekunder. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan dokumentasi, yaitu membaca fatwa tentang keuangan Syariah tahun 2000-2012. Data sekunder yaitu artikel, buku atau kajian terkait otoritas teks agama dalam penemuan dan pengembangan hukum ekonomi syariah. Data dianalisis dengan metode analisis isi. Kajian ini menemukan, dari 122 fatwa dalam buku kumpulan fatwa DSN-MUI, terdapat 47 fatwa (38,5%) yang merujuk pendapat ulama salaf dan kontemporer sebagai landasan fatwa-fatwa tersebut, atau setidaknya sebagai argumen dan legitimasi. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa legitimasi dan otoritas agama setidaknya bertumpu pada dua hal pokok yaitu agen pembentuk otoritas dan referensi pembentuk otoritas. Penerbitan fatwa dalam konteks pengembangan ekonomi syariah merupakan upaya mereproduksi otoritas teks. Kajian ini mengafirmasi kajian-kajian sebelumnya yang menyatakan penguatan MUI sebagai pemegang otoritas keagamaan, khususnya dalam bidang ekonomi syariah.

Introduction: An integrated biomedical ethics track was implemented as part of the new medical undergraduate curriculum at the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in academic year (AY) 2008/2009. This study analyses the effects of the new curriculum on first-year students’ knowledge, confidence and opinions in relation to the subject. Materials and Methods: In a cohort-based quasi-experimental study, we administered a pre-course and post-course questionnaire to a group of first-year students in AY2008/2009 who underwent the new biomedical ethics curriculum. The same questionnaire was carried out with the first-year cohort of AY2007/2008, who had received only ad hoc teaching in biomedical ethics. The questionnaire focused on the students’ opinions on selected taught topics in biomedical ethics and law, and formal ethics education; their confidence in relation to specific clinical ethical competencies; and their knowledge of selected taught topics in the first-year syllabus. Results: The experimental cohort acquired more knowledge and confidence. They rated more positively formal ethics teaching and assessment as a requirement of medical education. Attitudes were found to have been ‘professionalised’ within the experimental group, with significantly greater receptiveness towards ethical codes of the profession and the regulatory role of the Singapore Medical Council. They were found to be more conservative with respect to legislative changes in healthcare. Conclusion: The pioneer biomedical ethics curriculum had significant effects on the ethical development of first-year medical students. Longitudinal research through further phases of the integrated curriculum is needed to identify learning issues that affect the consolidation of knowledge, confidence and attitudes in medical ethics, law and professionalism. These are two very fine books written by individuals who were deeply involved in the making of American policy towards China in the 1990s. From 1997 to 2002, Richard C. Bush served as chairman and managing director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the semi-official body created in 1979 by the Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) to manage relations with the island in the wake of normalization of relations with the People's Republic of China (PRC). In 1994, Robert Suettinger, a career intelligence officer, joined the staff of the National Security Council at the White House as director of Asian Affairs; a position that he held until he moved to the National Intelligence Council in 1997 (coincidentally, as Richard Bush's replacement).Neither volume is, strictly speaking, a memoir. Bush does draw on his personal experience as a congressional aide during the 1980s and early 1990s and much less so on his years with the AIT. However, the bulk of his study constitutes superbly researched discussions of what he considers to be “relatively unstudied issues” related to the historical evolution of relations between the United States, Taiwan and the People's Republic of China. Suettinger, on the other hand, provides a memoir-like narrative of the years he was in the White House, but relies largely on research, interviews with major participants in the policy process, and his own insights for the remainder of the book. However, although neither author adopts a strictly participant-observer approach, both are clearly drawing on the knowledge acquired during extensive government service to make judgments on the complex issues they address, and it is this wisdom which makes these books essential reading.

Based on historical materials in the United Kingdom and China, this article analyses Joseph Needham’s 1946 report to the national government’s then leader, Chiang Kai-shek, on the state and prospects of modern science in China, and discusses its background, main content, characteristics, influences and significance. Needham completed the report at the end of 1945, and kept in mind the rich Eastern and Western contexts while writing it. The report revealed a series of institutional problems to do with science in China and provided a framework for scientific development. It also provided specific measures and essentially formed a plan for the scientific development of China at the institutional level. The report had an impact in China at the time, and the Ministry of Education engaged its content to formulate six specific measures for scientific development. Moreover, the Supreme Council for National Defence promoted China’s first 10-year plan for applied science. Needham’s report had universal significance for the development of science – not only in China at the time, but even globally today. The report also played an important role in the formation of Needham’s monumental book series, Science and Civilisation in China.

Abstract Pamela W Duncan, PT, PhD, FAPTA Dr Duncan has actively participated in and contributed to physical therapist practice, physical therapist professional education, professional preparation of other health care providers, national policy development related to rehabilitation after stroke and aging, and scientific investigation. She has served several government appointments and provides leadership within several organizations. She served as co-chair of the Consensus Panel on Establishing Guidelines for Stroke Rehabilitation for the Agency for Health Care Policy, Research, and Education. She was a panel member on the National Institutes of Health's Total Hip Replacement Consensus Conference and served on the Strategic Planning Group for Stroke Research for the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. She recently was appointed to serve on the Steering Committee of the Department of Education's National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research and is currently on the Executive Leadership Council of the American Stroke Foundation and the Advisory Committee of the Canadian Stroke Network. She has served on committees and panels for the American Heart Association and was president of APTA's Neurology section. Dr Duncan's research activities focus on geriatric rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation, and health outcomes measurement. She developed the Functional Reach Test, used to assess balance in older adults. In the past 20 years, she has received $13 million in research awards as principal investigator or co-investigator from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Aging, American Heart Association, Department of Veteran's Affairs, and National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research and from multiple private funding sources. Dr Duncan has disseminated her research findings in more than 80 peer-reviewed articles in 20 different journals, and she has written a book and 12 book chapters. Dr Duncan's work has influenced the care and rehabilitation of patients in the United States and worldwide. Physical therapy education programs across the country incorporate her findings and professional vision into the preparation of the next generation of physical therapists. APTA has awarded Dr Duncan the Marian Williams Award for Research in Physical Therapy, the Catherine Worthingham Fellowship Award, and the Mary McMillan Scholarship Award. She has also received research awards from the APTA Neurology Section, Sports Physical Therapy Section, and Section on Geriatrics, as well as a service award from the Neurology Section. She is an elected fellow of the Stroke Council of the American Heart Association and has given 8 invited lectureships at universities across the United States.

This paper is predicated on the body of literature that supports a theoretical concept that middle and high school age children possess the cognitive ability to understand thematic maps and achieve some degree of cartographic literacy. In 2006, the US National Research Council (NRC) of the National Academies published a landmark book on Learning to Think Spatially. This book documented essential secondary education components and various aspects of teaching spatial thinking. The NRC defines spatial thinking as “a form of thinking based on a constructive amalgam of three elements: concepts of space, tools of representation, and processes of reasoning” (NRC, 2006, ix). This paper is an attempt to document and understand some of the attributes associated with these three elements. Specifically, it aims to find ways that can effectively contribute to the teaching of these elements associated with spatial thinking. The National Atlas of Korea is chosen for lesson plan development because it is well-designed and provides a range of contents and comprehensiveness that are ideal; in addition, it is freely accessible online and downloadable (http://nationalatlas.ngii.go.kr/). Four master geography teachers were invited to examine the Atlas to conceive and develop Advanced Placement Human Geography (APHG) lesson plans. Four lesson plans were written and have continually been implemented in classrooms to over 800 students in the States of Utah, Georgia, Minnesota, and Tennessee since the 2015 Fall semester. Results are presented in this paper.

ABSTRACT The International Maritime Organization'S (IMO) “International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation, 1990” (OPRC 90) has been in force for more than 12 years now. IMO has been instrumental in setting up and providing both technical support and funding for various regional arrangements that provide the platform to achieve the objectives laid out by the Convention, both at the regional and national level. These efforts were sometimes carried out through the IMO/International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) Global Initiative (GI) Programme with strong support from national government and industry. Generally across Asia, national governments have to take preparedness to the provincial government level where the operational issues and challenges lie, often beyond the remit of existing technical support and funding from external organisations. The task of developing an integrated preparedness and response solution often involves inter-agency cooperation both at the national and local government level that may have competing priorities that outstrips available resources. A possible solution to this is through “Partnerships” among stakeholders, as the new paradigm that seeks to involve relevant stakeholders at the local provincial level where most of the practical challenges are. In East Asia Seas region, PEMSEA NETWORK OF LOCAL GOVERNMENTS FOR SUSTAINABLE COASTAL DEVELOPMENT (PNLG) formed on 13 December 2006 recognises that oil spill preparedness and response is an integral part of the sustainable coastal development. This provides a platform for such “Partnerships” that integrate the different elements of preparedness between local government and industry at the provincial level. Oil Spill Response and East Asia Response Ltd (OSRL/EARL) is a ‘not for profit’ Tier 3 response organisation with a regional base in Singapore for the Asia Pacific Region. Recognising the importance and issues surrounding oil spill preparedness and response we had been proactively involved in the region for the past six years through our advocacy activities that seek to address these challenges with the support of the oil industry. OSRL/EARL on 16 December 2006 joined the East Asian Seas (EAS) Partnership Council as a member to provide the technical support and operational expertise to enhance oil spill preparedness in high risk areas in the region.

This article describes the development of Transactional Analysis in Russia in the 1990s, when Tom Frazier brought the book “Transactional Analysis Today” by Ian Stewart and Vann Joins and asked Dmitry Kasyanov to translate it into Russian. The authors of the article talk about the first trainers and the first educational events on Transactional Analysis in Russia, in which many world-famous transactional analysts took part: in the 1990s, Claude Steiner, Stephen Karpman, Marilyn Zalcman, Petrushka Clarkson, John Clark, John Parr and others came to Russia. The article also talks about the first international educational programs of Transactional Analysis in Russia (“Transactional Analysis in the Clinical Field” and “Transactional Analysis in Education”), about the creation of national associations of Transactional Analysis — Saint-Petersburg Association of TA (SOTA) and Ryazan Association of TA (RATA). The authors describe the history of TA in Russia until 2015, when, with the support of EATA, for the first time in Russia and in Eastern Europe, the first International exam for obtaining the CTA status was held on the initiative of Elena Soboleva, the delegate from Russia to the EATA Council.

Patricia Smichowski is a Licentiate in Chemistry (equivalent to a Master in Science) of the University of Buenos Aires. She obtained an MS in Nuclear Engineering from the Engineering School of the University of Buenos Aires in 1981 and received her Ph.D. in chemistry in 1995 from the Complutense University, Madrid, Spain. In 1982, she joined the Argentine Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) where she is currently Head of the Analytical Developments Division. She is also Principal Researcher at the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET). She specializes in the development and application of atomic spectrometric techniques to environmental and biological analysis. Her interests lie in the preconcentration, speciation, and determination of trace metals and metalloids in a variety of matrices by employing plasma-based techniques, atomic fluorescence spectrometry, and other coupled techniques. She has conducted national and international projects aimed at characterizing the presence of metals, metalloids, ions, and organic compounds in airborne particulate matter, as well as elucidating their origin. She holds a patent, with other researchers, relating to the development of a sorbent for arsenic retention. Patricia Smichowski has published 130 peer reviewed articles and 12 book chapters, given 45 invited lectures at international meetings, and has co-organized several international conferences. She is a member of the advisory board of four international analytical chemistry journals, as well as the European Virtual Institute for Speciation Analysis.

During the past decade, since the inception of the Annual Review of Applied Linguistics, work in the field has been exciting, socially relevant, and expanding. This trend will likely continue throughout the 1990s and into the 21st Century. A variety of factors—attitudinal, demographic, economic, and sociological to mention but a few—will converge and lend urgency to the need for language educators to broaden their work. From a vantage point at the Center for Applied Linguistics, I have been repeatedly amazed during the past several years at the increasing attention focused on language issues—notice, for example, the concern with the workplace literacy crisis, the under-representation of language minority individuals in science and mathematics education and in technical fields; the continuing monolinguality of the American population, and with the credibility of young children as witnesses in sexual abuse trials. A discussion of the importance of language and literacy issues may be found today in such formerly unlikely sources as the newest book by the renowned management consultant Peter Drucker (1989). Indeed, during the past 18 months five major reports have appeared—Science for All Americans (American Association for the Advancement of Science 1989), Everybody Counts (National Research Council 1989), Workforce 2000 (Johnston 1987), Jump Start (Chisman 1989), and Turning Points (Carnegie Council on Adolescent Development 1989)—each of which presents and discusses in vivid detail the looming/educational/workplace crisis.

Abstract CAR-T cells utilize TCR signaling cascades and the recognition functions of antibodies. CAR-T technology has achieved significant success in treatment of certain, primarily liquid, cancers. Nonetheless, many challenges hinder the development of this therapy, for example the efficacy for solid tumors. These challenges show our inadequate understanding of this technology, particularly regarding CAR signaling, and how it may differ from TCR signaling. To dissect CAR signaling, CAR and TCR targeting the same antigen were compared directly. This comparison revealed that CAR was sufficient to bind monomeric antigens due to its high affinity but required oligomeric antigens for its activation. CAR sustained the transduced signal significantly longer than did TCR. CD8 coreceptor was recruited to the CAR synapse but played a negligible role in signaling, unlike for TCR signaling. Surprisingly, we identified a non-canonical CAR signaling triggered in the absence of SRC family kinase (SFK) LCK, which is essential for TCR signaling. We show that LCK-deficient CAR-T cells are strongly signaled through CAR and have a better in vivo efficacy because of reduced exhaustion phenotype and enhanced induction of memory. This non-canonical signaling of CAR-T cells provides new insight into the initiation of TCR and CAR signaling as well as important clinical implications for improvement of CAR function. Abstract It was once not uncommon for elements to have more than one name. Tungsten and wolfram. Columbium and niobium. Beryllium and glucinum. The multiple names were generally due to language differences, personal preference, and nationality. These different names were ultimately harmonized into a single set of names after World War II with the development of a standardized nomenclature for inorganic chemistry (IUPAC’s famous Red Book). At the same time, new elements ceased be to found in naturally-occurring substances. Rather, new elements began to be created in accelerators. The advent of synthesized elements raised new questions regarding the discovery of new elements. It also created a new set of challenges for their naming, one of the tasks of the old Commission on Nomenclature for Inorganic Chemistry (CNIC) of IUPAC. As we will see, to face these challenges the CNIC relied successively on the adjudication of the US National Research Council (US NRC) for the naming of promethium in 1948, and then on an ongoing partnership with the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP).

The article analyzes the content of the leading experts’ discussions on the outcome of restoration and technical re-equipment of oil industry in the 1920s. The study is based on key principles of historical knowledge: historicism, consistency, and objectivity, which allows the authors to avoid ideological implications when analyzing sources and to determine the backbone of the experts’ disagreement on optimal strategy for oil industry development. So far, the modern historiography hasn’t given a full picture of conceptual approaches to this problem that emerged among leading oil industry workers. The article is to study major assessments of the industry recovery and its proposed strategies and nature of contradiction. It draws on discussion in the Scientific and Technical Council of the Supreme Soviet of the National Economy and on main conclusions set forth in A.P. Serebrovsky’s book and memorandum. It uses documents from the Russian State Archive of Economics and the Russian State Archive of Socio-Political History (personal provenance fond of G. K. Ordzhonikidze). The theory of modernization is judged an adequate concept contributing to the elucidation of the topic. The study of archival and other materials allows the authors not only to evaluate colossal efforts made during the “rationalization” in the days of new economic policy, but also to show its significance for national economy development in the context of modernization processes. The studied documents make it possible, for instance, to determine how oil workers’ heated discussions in summarizing and identifying key factors of success arose from the need to form a development strategy for the oil industry and to reorganize its management. Analysis of various points of view shows that leading experts mostly recognized great importance of technical revolution, nationalization, and increasing centralization in the oil industry, which became a significant source for and a component of industrialization

Strategic management is a determinant of employee performance in the long term with the level of managerial decisions and actions. It includes environmental observation, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, evaluation and control. The research was conducted to analyze Sharia Strategic Management (MSS) at BMT Maslahah. It uses qualitative research methods, while data collection through interview techniques and documentation techniques. After the research was conducted, it was found that the strategic management process used by BMT Maslahah would be updated according to the needs and long-term development of the company. As for the strategy formulation, it is done by gathering all the members who will later be adjusted to the suggestions and the results of the joint discussion. The implementation of the strategy is adjusted to the existing mission at BMT Maslahah, such as managing cooperatives according to the identity of the students and also implementing the sharia system using the salaf book standards as well as in accordance with the fatwas of the National Sharia Council (DSN). It is stated that the BMT Maslahah in its implementation has implemented sharia principles which are marked by the implementation of four aspects differentiating it from conventional strategic management, including aspects of tawhid, orientation, motivation and sharia strategy.

Government bodies play an important role in generating a balanced development of a state. In fact, the development of a society is also closely related to the systems and policies that have been established by a government body. This happens because the government body is one of the main agents and driving tools in changing society from a static and traditional to a more developed and progressive society. Therefore, this article aims to see the extent of the role played by government bodies such as Terengganu Town Council (Majlis Bandaran Terengganu), Terengganu Arts and Craft Society (TACS), Malayan Art and Craft Society (MACS), Malayan Agri-Horticultural Association (M.A.H.A), British Empire Exhibition (B.E.E) and the Trade and Industry's Office in helping the Malay enterprise and business activities in Terengganu from 1900 to 1941. This study used a qualitative method which had involved collecting and analysing data from primary sources obtained from the National Archives of Malaysia such as CO 840/1 (Terengganu Administration Report, 1910-1930), CO 840/2 (Terengganu Administration Report 1931-1940), Terengganu State Secretary File, and British Adviser Terengganu File. In addition, secondary sources such as journals, books, book chapters, and magazines were also utilised to further strengthen the study conducted. The results of the study found that the existence of various government bodies in Terengganu managed to play a significant role in developing Malay enterprises and businesses in Terengganu from 1900 to 1941.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the extent to which the content of the basic first-grade mathematics textbook in Jordan complies with the standards of the National Council of teachers of mathematics (NCTM). The study's authors expect that it will help those responsible for creating mathematics curricula at all levels, and in the fundamental first grade in particular, by highlighting areas of strength and need.
Method: The study sample consisted of a mathematics book for the first grade in Jordan, with its first and second parts, and two exercise books. An analysis instrument was designed; the validity and reliability of the instrument were ensured. The analysis process was carried out by monitoring the set of paragraphs, each of which includes one idea, and then calculating the number of ideas that represent one of the elements of the analysis, and calculating their repetitions and percentages in light of the sum of repetitions of the elements of the criterion.
Results: The results of the study showed that the content of the first-grade mathematics textbook was the highest in data analysis and probability (0.00−79.31)% while it was the lowest in numbers and operations (0.00−18.69)%. The results also showed that the extent of the operations standards was the highest in problem-solving (0.00−76.92)% and the lowest was in communication (3.57−35.71)%.
Conclusions: The study recommended the necessity of developing the book according to NCTM standards, and conducting studies to evaluate mathematics books for other classes in light of the current curricular development movement in Jordan.

Introduction The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC or ‘Arabian Gulf’), comprising Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, is a political organization sharing a common history and culture. All GCC nations have made substantial investments in telecommunications and electronic health infrastructure since 2000. Methods We conducted a literature search in English and Arabic on peer-reviewed e-health research up to December 2014 originating in the GCC. The objective was to retrieve all research on e-health in the GCC and to categorize and analyse it qualitatively to reveal the current state of e-health research and development in the region. Inclusion criteria included peer-reviewed articles, books, book chapters, conference papers and graduate theses written on e-health in the GCC. Blogs, health websites and non-peer-reviewed literature were excluded. Results Three hundred and six articles were retrieved, categorized and analysed qualitatively to reveal the state of e-health research in the GCC. Both country-specific and GCC-wide major themes were identified using NVivo 10.0 qualitative software and summarized. The most common type of study was an overview (35.0%), with common study designs of case studies (26.8%) and descriptive articles (46.4%). Significant themes were: prospective national benefits from e-health, implementation and satisfaction with electronic health records, online technologies in medical education, innovative systems (case studies), and information security and personal health information. Discussion This is the first comprehensive analytical literature review of e-health in the GCC. Important research gaps were identified: few cost-benefit analyses, controlled interventional studies, or research targeting gender and religious issues were retrieved.

Civic education is one of the basic courses that must be taken by every student at the College. The regulation of the course is based on the mandate contained in the law on the National Education System. Through Civic Education courses, the students can be directed national personality, that is how they love their homeland Indonesia, being a democratic, civilized, tolerant and so on. Muhammadiyah through the Council of Higher Education, Research and Development of Muhammadiyah head quarter published a textbook on Civic Education with the title Civic Education toward a Democratic and Civilized Life. The book became a staple in reference Civic Education Course in Universities of Muhammadiyah (PTM). However when elaborate on the Indonesian ideology or, in the book does not contain the formulation history of state basic ideology which was done by the founding fathers. Also how the role and Islamic thought figures who participated in formulating the state basic ideology be part of the material that was duly presented in the book. It is important that students who study in PTM to know and understand the history and struggle of Islamic figures in formulating the basis of the state and the dynamics that occurred at that time. So that their knowledge is complete and in understanding the Pancasila as the state basic ideology of Indonesia. Ki Bagus had very important role in the Committee for Indonesian Independence (PPKI) experienced of dead lock about the change of first principle of Pancasila, and there was serious debate and dynamic. Akan tetapi ketika menguraikan tentang ideologi atau dasar negara Indonesia pada bagian yang membahas tentang “Membangun Identitas Nasional”, tidak memuat bagaimana sejarah perumusan dasar negara yang dilakukan para founding fathers. Bagaimana pemikiran tokoh-tokoh Islam seperti Ki Bagus Hadikusumo, Kasman Singodimedjo, dan Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir tidak menjadi bagian dalam materi yang sepatutnya disajikan dalam buku tersebut. Hal ini penting agar mahasiswa mengetahui dan memahami sejarah dan perjuangan tokoh-tokoh Islam dalam merumuskan dasar negara serta dinamika yang terjadi saat itu. Sehingga pengetahuan mereka menjadi utuh dan tidak parsial dalam memahami Pancasila sebagai dasar negara Indonesia. Peran Ki Bagus sangat penting ketika Panitia Persiapan Kemerdekaan Indonesia (PPKI) mengalami deadlock soal perubahan sila pertama dasar negara Indonesia. Demikian juga pemikiran Kasman Singodimedjo tentang dasar negara baik dalam sidang PPKI, maupun dalam sidang Konstituante. Perpsektif Kasman tentang Pancasila yang berbasis pada Islam menjadi penting setelah diberlakukan kembali UUD 1945 dengan lahirnya Dekrit Presiden 5 Juli 1959. Demikian juga pemikiran Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir sebagai saksi sejarah perjuangan umat Islam tidak bisa dilupakan begitu saja, Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir termasuk dalam Panitia Sembilan yang bertugas menyusun dasar negara yang pada akhirnya menjadi Piagam Jakarta. Dalam Sidang Konstituante Mudzakkir tetap komitmen menjadikan Islam sebagai dasar negara, di mana Sidang Konstituante adalah momentum perumusan dasar negara jilid kedua. Inti dari buku PKn adalah bagaimana masalah ideologi negara khususnya Pancasila dapat dijelaskan secara komprehensif, utuh dan tidak parsial. Termasuk hubungan antara Piagam Jakarta dan UUD 1945. Oleh karena itu disertasi ini membahas pemikiran Ki Bagus Hadikusumo, Kasman Singodimedjo, dan Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir menjadi bahan pengembangan materi Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan dalam buku ajar Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan Menuju Kehidupan yang Demokratis dan Berkeadaban.

Civic education is one of the basic courses that must be taken by every student at the College. The regulation of the course is based on the mandate contained in the law on the National Education System. Through Civic Education courses, the students can be directed national personality, that is how they love their homeland Indonesia, being a democratic, civilized, tolerant and so on. Muhammadiyah through the Council of Higher Education, Research and Development of Muhammadiyah head quarter published a textbook on Civic Education with the title Civic Education toward a Democratic and Civilized Life. The book became a staple in reference Civic Education Course in Universities of Muhammadiyah (PTM). However when elaborate on the Indonesian ideology or, in the book does not contain the formulation history of state basic ideology which was done by the founding fathers. Also how the role and Islamic thought figures who participated in formulating the state basic ideology be part of the material that was duly presented in the book. It is important that students who study in PTM to know and understand the history and struggle of Islamic figures in formulating the basis of the state and the dynamics that occurred at that time. So that their knowledge is complete and in understanding the Pancasila as the state basic ideology of Indonesia. Ki Bagus had very important role in the Committee for Indonesian Independence (PPKI) experienced of dead lock about the change of first principle of Pancasila, and there was serious debate and dynamic. Likewise, the role and thought of Kasman Singodimedjo was also important on the basis state in both the trial PPKI, as well as in the Constituent Assembly. Perpsektif Kasman about Pancasila based on Islam became important after the implementation of 1945 Constitution and Presidential Decree July 5th 1959. The role of Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir as a witness to the history of the struggle of Muslims cannot be neglected; especially Mudzakkir included in the Committee of Nine which develops the basic state eventually became the Jakarta Charter and accepted unanimously by BPUPKI. Furthermore, in the Constituent Assembly Mudzakkir remain committed to make Islam as the basis of the state, where the Constituent Assembly is the foundation of the momentum of the second volume formulation. The core of the Civics book is how the problem of state ideology especially Pancasila can be described in a comprehensive, complete and not partial. Including the relationship between the Jakarta Charter and the Constitution 1945. Other matters concerning aspects of citizenship is derived and the meaning of ideology or basic state. Therefore, this paper presents the role and thought of Ki Bagus Hadikusumo, Kasman Singodimedjo, and Abdul Kahar Mudzakkir become material development of Civic Education in the book of Civic Education toward a Democratic and Civilized Life.Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan merupakan salah satu mata kuliah dasar yang mesti ditempuh oleh setiap mahasiswa dalam studinya di Perguruan Tinggi. Ketentuan adanya mata kuliah ini berdasarkan amanat yang tertuang dalam undang-undang tentang Sistem Pendidikan Nasional. Melalui mata kuliah Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan ini mahasiswa diarahkan dapat berkepribadian nasional, yaitu bagaimana mereka cinta tanah air Indonesia, bersikap demokratis, beradab, toleran dan lain sebagainya. The chronology of researches the fungi and fungi-like organisms on the territory of the Hutsulshchyna National Nature Park is described. Information is bases on the Chronicles of Nature of the Park since the time of it creation. The contribution of researchers in the study of the fungal biodiversion of the Park is noted. 1.01.2022 List of fungi of the Park counts 1214 species, of which 23 species are included in the Red Book of Ukraine. The information about in situ, ex situ and re situ methods are represented. In situ method aims the preservation of fungi and their localities. Ex situ method is expressed by introduction into artificial culture of fungi and maintenance of viability of fungal mycelium in collections of pure cultures. Re situ method is expressed by reproduction of aboriginal strains species of fungi in their natural conditions, involving in situ and ex situ practice. The environmental effect of using in situ, ex situ and re situ measures on the territory of Hutsulshchyna National Park is described. The development of growing methods for rare species of fungi in laboratory conditions is pointed. Reducing the threat of extinction of rare fungi due to re-situ technology and systematic fruiting of fungi at the mycological reproductive areas is explained. Certain legal aspects of protection of fungi and mushroom-like organisms are described within the "Program of protection, preservation and reproduction of rare species of fungi", approved by the Scientific and Technical Council of NNP "Hutsulshchyna". The question of creating the protection zones for rare species of fungi is outlined. The collections of macromycetes of Hutsulshchyna National Park are briefly described. The collection of pure cultures numbers 7 species of 13 strains, the collection of herbarium and wet preparations numbers 175 specimens. The important scientific and educational role of the collections is noted, the main purpose of their further operation is marked, as well as the methods and results of popularization of scientific researches among children, youth and adults. The connection of scientific achievements with the creation of a favorable economic climate for the community is indicated. Probably positive results of introduction of new recreational services - fungi therapy routes and commercial cultivation of new species of edible, rare, pharmaceutically popular species of fungi are marked.

Purpose Beatrix Potter and Her Paint Box (McPhail, 2015) is a tranquil biography primarily focusing on the childhood of Beatrix Potter. This lesson plan, based in the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) C3 Framework, allows second-grade learners to explore the life of Beatrix Potter through this biography and to make connections to his or her own life. Learners move through four stages of inquiry in the C3 Framework. They examine the dust jacket and dual-image book cover for clues about the life of Beatrix Potter. Next, they engage in a read-aloud of the biography during which learners construct knowledge about the life of Beatrix Potter. Learners then create puppets and role play the life of Ms Potter. The lesson concludes with learners making comparisons between their own and Ms Potter’s life. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach This is a lesson plan that is intended for second grade students. The duration of the lesson is approximately 90 minutes in length. The lesson utilizes the Whole Book Approach (WBA). The WBA is “an intentional, inquiry-based approach to reading aloud that puts art and design [and children’s responses to them] at the center of the storytime experience” (Lambert et al., 2015, p. 81). During the lesson, the teacher utilizes the WBA through asking open-ended questions as she/he reads aloud. The students and the teacher co-construct meaning through a dialogue about the text and images within the text. The lesson also includes the Role-Playing Characters to Understand Them Better (adapted) approach. This fiction reading strategy is adapted for informational text, a biography, for this lesson. Rather than role-playing a character, students role-play real people: Beatrix Potter & her family, and themselves. Serravallo (2015) writes about this strategy, “Sometimes the best way to get to know our characters is to stand in their shoes-to do what they do, say what they say, and act how they act. With a partner[…] Using puppets or props, act out the scene. Try to talk in the voice of the character, and move the puppet just like the character would. When you finish creating the scene, stop and talk about what you think about the characters” (p. 172). Students will create paper puppets and role-play events from Beatrix Potter’s life as depicted in the biography. Students use a puppet of themselves to talk with Beatrix about how the student's life is similar to and different from Beatrix’s life. McPhail, D. Findings Little Beatrix Potter loved art. At an early age, she received her mother’s paint box. Beatrix Potter spent hours painting things she loved, like the animals she kept as pets. Her family traveled from their home in London to spend Summers in the country. She loved it there. She spent her time painting her surroundings. When she was older she learned of a young boy who was ill, and confined to bed. So, she wrote him a story and drew illustrations for the story. This story was later published as her first book, The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Beatrix Potter went on to publish many other animal tales that became popular across the world and beloved for generations. Originality/value This lesson plan is aligned with the NCSS theme number 10, individual development and identity.
