Abstract:
Abstract Hereditary thrombocytosis (HT) is an autosomal dominant disorder resulting from mutations involving the thrombopoietin (TPO) gene or its receptor gene, MPL. To date, 4 different mutations in the TPO gene and 2 in the MPL gene have been described. Although the clinical features of HT can resemble those of sporadic essential thrombocytemia (ET), different biological markers characterize the two conditions with different clinical and biological characteristics. The presence of JAK2 V617F and MPLW515L mutations identify familial ET (variable penetrance, clinical features and outcome similar to those of sporadic ET). The absence of JAK2 V617F mutations and the presence of MPLS505A or TPO gene mutations characterize HT (complete predominance, thrombocytosis, no organomegaly and benign clinical course). In our study, we analyzed the clinical and biological features of 17 members of 4 families (fam), diagnosed and followed at the study Institution between 1979 and 2007. The median follow-up is 79 months. Of 49 patients (pts) aged ≤20 years with a diagnosis of ET according to the PVSG or WHO criteria, we have identified 17 pts (M: 8; F: 9; median age 14 years) with HT (34.7%) through a detailed history. Peripheral blood samples were collected after informed consent from 11/17 pts: molecular analysis for the JAK2V617F, TPO (5′ untranslated region) and MPL (exon 10) gene mutations was performed. In addition, all pts were also evaluated for PRV-1 RNA overespression by qualitative RT-PCR, for endogenous erythroid colony (EECs) growth and all female patients were tested for clonality of hematopoiesis using the HUMARA polymorphism assay and the HUMARA methylation-specific PCR. The table summarizes the features, treatment and follow-up of the pts. No mutations within the TPO or MPL genes were found in the affected members of family 4. Overall, 6 pts received antiaggregant therapy (AT) and 5 pts were treated with hydroxyurea (HU), interferon (IFN), pipobroman (vercite) or anagrelide. No thromboembolic events occurred. To date, 2/11 evaluable pts (family 4) have required treatment because of a persistent high platelet count. Our data suggest that ET in young pts is most frequently a familial form. A detailed history and accurate biological marker studies are needed to identify, characterize and better manage HT.

Abstract:
Three species of rock-wallabies are currently known from the Northern Territory (N.T.). The Black-footed Rock-wallaby Petrogale lateralis is listed by ANZECC as vulnerable and N.T. populations are known to have declined over the past 40 years. The conservation status of the other two species from the N.T., the Short-eared Rock-wallaby Petrogale brachyotis and the Nabarlek Petrogale concinna is uncertain. Both species are officially listed as common however their ranges appear to be highly fragmented and populations have declined in several locations. Whilst there are populations of all three species represented in the N.T. reserve system there are currently no formal programs to monitor or manage these populations. The factors of most concern in relation to conservation of rock-wallabies in the N.T. are changes in fire regimes, grazing by feral and domestic stock and introduced predators.

Abstract:
Abstract Hematopoietic chimerism has been demonstrated to be relevant for donor cell engraftment and detection of minimal residual disease after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (aHCT). In the light of increasing numbers of aHCT as a treatment modality, rapid, reliable and cost effective chimerism monitoring techniques acquire novel relevance. We evaluated the informativeness of five microsatellite markers in 376 donor/recipient pairs and compared the ability of polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (GE) and capillary electrophoresis (CE) to detect mixed chimerism (MC) after aHCT. The sensitivity for GE and CE with respect to different markers was determined by limiting dilution assays with MC samples containing defined amounts of cells or DNA. Furthermore, CE was applied in 37 retrospectively selected patients with a MC detected by GE, having undergone aHCT for different hematological diseases and initially achieving a complete donor chimerism. The sensitivity and accuracy quantified by limiting dilution was higher CE as compared to GE with all microsatellites. Potential pitfalls with the combined application of CE was preferential amplification, leading to the misdiagnosis of CC in the presence of MC and the occurrence of stutter peaks in the representative area. In case of preferential amplification with the initially applied marker D1S80, evaluation with a second microsatellite was beneficial. Investigation of the selected pts samples demonstrated that detection of an increasing MC was earlier with CE as compared to GE. The detected recipient genotype by CE examination, despite a negative GE result, ranged from 0.7% to 7.1%. We conclude that chimerism assessment with our five microsatellites identified informative alleles in 99% of all donor/recipient pairs. CE displayed a higher sensitivity and accuracy when compared to GE and additionally allowed for detection of an increasing MC suggestive for relapse. Prospective clinical investigation with CE for the predictive value of an increasing MC for graft failure or relapse is necessary. Abstract:
N.T. Wright, who represents the New Perspective on Paul, applies philosophical construct of critical realism to the study of the New Testament text. This article explores how N.T. Wright approaches the study of the person of Jesus Christ and his teaching in the context of ancient Judaism, and Apostle Paul’s theology and its application in the early Christian communities. A special attention is paid to the essential works of N.T. Wright, in which he describes epistemology applied to the New Testament studies. This article synchronously explores two main concepts – worldview and history – in the theory of cognition according to critical realism. By studying several methods and approaches to the biblical text (or their totality), a contemporary Christian can choose for herself the method that most illuminates the truth of the meanings of the Gospel of Jesus and Paul’s preaching.

Abstract:
The genera of microgastrine braconid wasps present in the Australasian region (defined as Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, New Guinea, Solomon Is, Fiji Is, Samoan Is, Cook Is, but not French Polynesia) are reviewed. An illustrated key to genera, comments on their taxonomy, and information on the distribution and host relationships of species are provided. Following examination of holotypes, the generic placement of all species recorded from the region is reassessed since a recent generic reclassification of the subfamily left most of the Australasian species incorrectly placed. Parapanteles Ashmead (N.T.), Fornicia Brullé (Qld) and Deuterixys Mason (Qld) are recorded from Australasia for the first time, while Buluka De Seager, Parenion Nixon, Snellenius Westwood and Wilkinsonellus Mason, previously known from Australasia, are recorded from mainland Australia for the first time. The genus Austrocotesia is described as new [with A. exigua, sp. nov. (Papua New Guinea) as the type species], along with the following 14 species: Austrocotesia delicata, sp. nov. (Papua New Guinea, Qld), A. paradoxa, sp. nov. (Papua New Guinea), Buluka collessi, sp. nov. (Qld), Deuterixys anica, sp. nov. (Vic., N.S. W., Qld), Fornicia commoni, sp. nov. (Qld), Glyptapanteles deliasa, sp. nov. (S.A.), Microgaster nixoni, sp. nov. (Tas., N.S.W.), Parapanteles masoni, sp. nov. (N.T.), Parenion beelaronga, sp. nov. (Qld), P. bootha, sp. nov. Glyptapanteles guyanensis (Cameron), comb. nov. is excluded from the Australasian fauna; the name Glyptapanteles fullawayi, nom. nov. (Samoa) is proposed for Apanteles opercuiinae var. polita Fullaway; lectotypes are designated for Cotesia deliadis (Bingham), comb. nov. (Qld), C. philoeampa (Cameron), comb. nov. (N.S.W) and C. rufiventris (Bingham), comb. nov. (Qld); Glyptapanteles operculinae (Fullaway), comb. nov. (Samoa), Microgaster kuchingensis Wilkinson (Papua New Guinea) and Sathon moratus (Wilkinson), comb. nov. (Vic., S.A., W.A.) are redescribed; and 41 additional new combinations are proposed.

Influenced by internal pressure due to diverging views of its judges and external pressure from member states, the ECtHR pursued a more regressive approach after 2016, culminating in 2020 in its N.D. and N.T. v. Spain judgment on Spain’s policy of ‹hot returns›. This paper attempts to contextualise this shift and its consequences by, inter alia, analysing dissenting votes, judgments, and state practice. In the longer term, this line of jurisprudence could serve as a basis for justifying proposed European border procedures and have effects beyond the ECHR member state context.

Abstract:
Abstract This essay explores the impact of N.D. and N.T. v. Spain on the ECHR system. The case deals with the immediate return of aliens at Melilla’s border fence. Based on conceptual analysis, the author submits to critical scrutiny the arguments developed by the ECtHR. The Court’s reasoning is framed within the riveting interdisciplinary debate on external border control. The Grand Chamber’s final decision reduces the scope of the protection offered by Article 4 Protocol 4, for it introduces a highly indeterminate exception to the prohibition of summary returns at the border. The author suggests that this solution might favor non-entrée strategies and promote the current trend of externalizing the asylum procedures. Introducing broad exceptions to the prohibition of collective expulsion, especially if coupled with strong presumptions in favor of States, increases the effectiveness of border walls qua accountability waivers.

Abstract:
The analytical expression for the group index in a degenerated three-level lambda-type atomic system is derived as a function of the parameters of laser fields and external magnetic field. The influence of the external magnetic field on the group index is investigated. It is shown that by changing the magnitude or sign of the external magnetic field, the transparency window with normal dispersion switches to enhanced absorption with anomalous dispersion at the line center and hence the light propagation can be converted between subluminal and superluminal modes. Abstract:
AbstractWhile acknowledging Wright's competent handling of a wide range of primary sources, this response takes issue with his conclusions by arguing that the bodily resurrection did not happen and that the Gospel accounts are legendary and at times contradictory. It is also argued that there are two distinct traditions of understanding the resurrection in earliest Christianity, i.e. a more 'spiritual' transformation associated with the Jerusalem church and the bodily resurrection associated with the Pauline churches and represented in narrative form in Mk 16.1-8. This response is divided into the following main areas: ideas of post-mortal life in Judaism; 1 Corinthians 15; the Gospel narratives; and conversion-visions.
