Abstract:
Learning outcomes The learning outcomes are as follows: factors to be considered in devising the best post-acquisition brand identity and outline market research techniques, which can be used to identify the best-suited post-acquisition brand identity strategy. Case overview/synopsis The case study discusses the brand strategy, which Walmart Inc needs to adopt post its acquisition of Flipkart Pvt. Ltd (Flipkart) Group in India. Flipkart had acquired Myntra Designs Pvt. Ltd (Myntra) and Novarris Fashion Trading Private Limited (Jabong), but had kept their brand identity intact; Walmart Inc was faced with the decision on moving ahead with the brand strategy of keeping individual brand identities or merging all of these into a single brand identity. The study aims to provide valuable insights into the decision-making process adopted by Walmart Inc. It includes also the role of cause-related marketing in the positioning of Myntra as a socially responsible brand. The case study opted for an exploratory research design study using the qualitative research method of in-depth interviews. In total, 10 experts in the area of marketing, market research and marketing communication were interviewed. The qualitative data were analyzed using a template approach, which analyzes the text using a codebook or an analysis guide. The analysis guide already has clearly defined themes or categories. As the qualitative interviews progress, these themes get revised. These themes are analyzed qualitatively rather than statistically. The case study suggests to the management of Walmart Inc that they need to merge Myntra and Jabong based on the degree of similarity of consumer demographics, income/social class of buyers, brand identity and buying behavior. Myntra needs to retain as opposed to Jabong, as Myntra is perceived to be a socially responsible brand that creates a purchase disposition in the minds of the consumers. A more extensive quantitative study would offer better generalizability. It was not feasible to conduct a quantitative study due to time constraints. This research would have used advanced brand imagery assessment techniques such as multi-dimensional scaling to suggest if an overlap exists between consumer segments of Myntra and Jabong. The case study provides a decision-making framework to firms and individuals who are part of organizational teams to create a post-acquisition brand strategy in the e-commerce market. The case study fulfills a need for many academicians and practitioners to understand the decision-making process followed in devising a post-acquisition brand strategy in India. Abstract:
To cope up with the ever-changing dynamic business environment, every organization needs to reinvent their marketing mix strategies by introducing some innovations and novel strategic changes. These transformations are very important for the organizational growth, survival and expansion. These transitions could be the need of the hour or a strategic move towards a brighter future. Several ecommerce players are already scaling up their offline presence to let customers experience the product before buying and to reach a larger market. Myntra is planning to be one of them by opening its physical stores across India to boost its private labels. The case attempts to examine those factors which prompted Myntra to sail against the tide. In spite of touching such heights in the online world in a short time span of just a decade is Myntra not convinced about the customer satisfaction and thus, reverting back to traditional retail.

Abstract:
Today, e-commerce is a thriving industry. We do not need to approach every customer to accept their orders here. A business creates a website to offer things to clients, who can then purchase the stuff they need within the same website. These e-commerce firms include well-known ones like Amazon, Shopify, Myntra, Flipkart, and Ajio. To create a product recommendation system for the end customers, we will be using the data set of e-commerce product reviews in this final project. A sentiment analysis model will be used to enhance the suggestions. Under this final project, we will develop a sentiment analysis engine utilising a variety of machine learning approaches before selecting the model that produces the best results.

Abstract:
Electronic marketing is a huge shift in the globalisation era. The use of technology (i.e., a computer) for greater marketing performance is known as online shopping or marketing. And retailers are designing tactics to suit the demands of online customers; they are investigating consumer behaviour in the realm of online buying to determine how consumers feel about it. People in today's world have difficulty in planning their time to complete routine things such as shopping. Therefore, internet has become increasingly important in recent years. The number of people who use the internet for their daily activities continues to rise. People can manage their time for shopping and other work equally effectively when they purchase online. The number of internet buyers from Karnataka’s various districts has steadily increased. In this study, the researcher attempted to examine customer preferences and satisfaction with internet purchasing in the city of Udupi. Six well-known online shopping platforms were used in the research. The research paper is based on the primary data. The collected data is analyzed using Simple Percentage Method, Ranking Method, Impact Index Method. The study concluded that Consumers in Udupi favour Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, and Snapdeal as their top four online shopping destinations. Customers are really happy with their internet shopping experience. Both male and female customers favour online buying, although there is a considerable age gap between respondents' ages and their online shopping preferences. As a result, it can be argued that online shops in Udupi have a promising future. They must comprehend the needs of consumers and strive to make these things available on their internet platforms. Abstract:
Popular fashion e-commerce platforms mostly provide details about low-level attributes of an apparel (for example, neck type, dress length, collar type, print etc) on their product detail pages. However, customers usually prefer to buy apparel based on their style information, or simply put, occasion (for example, party wear, sports wear, casual wear etc). Application of a supervised image-captioning model to generate style-based image captions is limited because obtaining ground-truth annotations in the form of style-based captions is difficult. This is because annotating style-based captions requires a certain amount of fashion domain expertise, and also adds to the costs and manual effort. On the contrary, low-level attribute based annotations are much more easily available. To address this issue, we propose a transfer-learning based image captioning model that is trained on a source dataset with sufficient attribute-based ground-truth captions, and used to predict style-based captions on a target dataset. The target dataset has only a limited amount of images with style-based ground-truth captions. The main motivation of our approach comes from the fact that most often there are correlations among the low-level attributes and the higher-level styles for an apparel. We leverage this fact and train our model in an encoder-decoder based framework using attention mechanism. In particular, the encoder of the model is first trained on the source dataset to obtain latent representations capturing the low-level attributes. The trained model is fine-tuned to generate style-based captions for the target dataset. To highlight the effectiveness of our method, we qualitatively and quantitatively demonstrate that the captions generated by our approach are close to the actual style information for the evaluated apparel. A Proof Of Concept (POC) for our model is under pilot at Myntra (www.myntra.com) where it is exposed to some internal users for feedback.

Pathak, Atul Arun. "Seller side HR perspectives during M&A deals." Strategic Direction 32, no. 6 (June 13, 2016): 19–22. http://dx.doi.org/10.1108/sd-03-2016-0034.

Full text
Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to focus on the HR issues that seller organizations face during the pre-deal stage of mergers and acquisitions (M&A). It recommends the HR strategies that strategies that seller-side organizations need to adopt to improve their chances of successful M&A. Design/methodology/approach The paper explores the HR-related issues faced by seller-side organizations. It highlights the key dilemmas and challenges involved at this stage of M&A deals. It recommends the HR strategies that seller companies can follow during the pre-deal stage of an M&A deal. Findings What the seller’s HR leaders do (and do not do) during the run up to an M&A deal can significantly affect the success of the post-deal integration and future success of the combined firm. During the pre-deal phase of an M&A journey, HR leaders face a range of dilemmas. They have to decide whether to maintain business as usual or change their HR strategy, decide when to hide information and when (and what) to communicate internally and also have to prepare the seller organization for an HR audit by the buyer firm. Practical implications HR leaders in seller organizations need to continue to increase the value of the organization by continually aligning the HR strategy to the organization’s overall corporate and business strategy. During the early stages of the deal, they have to camouflage certain confidential details. When the deal is at an advanced stage, HR leaders have to communicate extensively with employees about the deal. They need to ensure that the organization is prepared for an HR audit by prospective buyers. However, they also have to ensure that the reasons for the seller organization’s success are not revealed fully and prematurely. Social implications It concedes that during an M&A deal, the HR leaders of a seller organization need to balance the interests of multiple stakeholders. These include the firm’s owners, top managers, employees and key customers. Those who are unable to do this effectively and consistently may end up harming the interest of the seller organization during an M&A deal. Originality/value The paper considers the highly dynamic e-commerce industry in India. It is a sector that is seeing rapid growth. Many new players are entering the market and the battle is for size and scale. In such a scenario, companies such as Flipkart are using the M&A route to scale up inorganically. Recently, Flipkart acquired Myntra, a strong player in the online retailing of fashion garments. The paper provides insights in to the challenges faced by the seller organization’s HR managers during the pre-deal stage of M&A transactions and recommends strategies that they should follow.

Abstract:
Many readers of Mynors' commentary must have been mildly puzzled by the last sentence of his note on 491: ‘Some sensitive modern ears catch an echo of the Homericemathoeis, “sandy” and haima, “blood”’. In commenting on the same line, Thomas is less negative, but mentions only the blood, not the sand: ’Haemi…campos: given the force ofpinguescere… V. surely intends a gloss—“plains of blood” (cf. Gr. haima)‘.2 He provides no further guidance as to who might be the owner of Mynors’ ‘sensitive modern ears’. For the record, the answer is George Doig, and his case is far stronger than Mynors' dismissive comment might be taken to imply.3 The first point in favour is (as Doig says) the inaccuracy of Vergil's geographic reference.

Estimated population sizes of the three species between February 2000 and February 2001 were between 106 000-176 000, 122 000-155 000 and 20 000-29 000, respectively. Population size of the house crow grew dramatically (>30-fold) in the last 15-16 y while that of the white-vented and common myna declined. Habitat-abundance relationships suggest that house crows are highly dependent on anthropogenic food. Their abundance was also positively related to proximity to coast. The common myna associated closely with agricultural areas while the white-vented myna probably preferred urban greenery among residential buildings. Our study shows that the three invasive bird species associated with different aspects of human-modified environment.

Abstract:
Nesting patterns of four species of mynas and starlings, Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis), Jungle Myna (Acridotheres fuscus), the Asian-pied Starling (Gracupica contra) and Chestnut-tailed Mtarling (Sturnia malabarica) were studied in Jahangirnagar University campus from March to September in 2016. Nests were searched systematically throughout the study area and nesting parameters like nest dimensions, nest-site selection, tree species preference, nesting materials, clutch size and nesting success were examined. A total of 101 nests were recorded where 31 nests were of Common Myna, 10 of Jungle Myna, 49 of the Asian-pied Starling and 11 nests were of Chestnut-tailed Starling. Overall, the sturnids preferred nesting on trees (n=84) to anthropogenic structures (n=17). Common myna showed maximum variation in nest-site selection using tree holes (n=12), tree branches (n=10) and building cornices, holes or crevices (n=9) whereas Chestnut-tailed Starling nested only in tree cavities (n=11). Jungle Myna built nests both in tree holes (n=4) and in building holes and crevices (n=6). The Asian-pied Starlings built their domed nests mostly on tree branches (n=47) where 69% nests were peripheral and 31% were central in position. Out of 20 species of trees utilized for nesting purpose, the majority of nests were built on Whites iris Albizia procera (n=18) followed by Neem Azadirachta indica (n=10) and Mahogany Swietenia mahagoni (n=10). The nests were constructed between 2 and 18m (8±3.8m) from the ground level. Among 19 types of nesting materials recorded, twigs, leaves, straws, grasses, feathers, plastics and polythene were frequently used by all four species while the Asian-pied starling used more rubbish materials than other species. Highest nesting success (80%) was recorded in Common Myna whereas the Asian-pied Starling, Chestnut-tailed Starling and Jungle Myna had 77.8%, 75% and 66.7% of nesting success respectively. Adaptions to using different nesting sites in Common Myna and comparatively higher nesting height in the Asian-pied Starling may have facilitated the greater nesting success. Bangladesh J. Abstract:
Artificial (Wooden) nest boxes were successfully adopted by Spotted Owlet (Athene brama) and Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis) which accomplished egg laying in 9.80 and 74.50% boxes, out of total 51 boxes, installed at eight different sites at one location. Egg laying by Common Myna was accomplished repeatedly for second and third time in 23.53 and 3.92% nest boxes respectively after successfully raising the previous brood. Breeding success of 35.71 and 77.86% was achieved in Spotted Owlet and Common Myna. None of the birds adopted and accomplished breeding in 33 boxes installed at two different sites, 15 and 18 boxes at each site, at another location owing to the dominance of Barn Owl, Tyto alba and Tree mouse, Vandeleuria oleracea dumeticola at the respective sites. Timing and site of installation served as contributing factors while predation and parasitism acted as limiting factors in nest box breeding. Higher breeding performance of Common Myna was recorded in artificial nest boxes than in natural cavity nesting.

Abstract:
<p>Bali Myna (Leucopsar rothschildi) is Bali’s endemic bird. Their number is decreasing gradually in the wild (Balen et al., 2000). Its bright color of white feather and blue skin that surrounded its eye have made them easy to be hunted when it perched on abranch. Bali Myna was classified as endangered species by International Union of Conservation and Natural resources (IUCN) in 1977 (Whitten et al. 1999). There is a captive breeding in Tegal Bunder, Bali Barat National Park (BBNP) called Bali Myna Guidance Centre to increase wild population as an effort to prevent extinction. There, its conditions should be monitored regularly to keep them in prime condition, before being released for breeding purpose. Their condition could be controlled by monitoring their daily activities.</p>

Abstract:
The common myna Acridotheres tristis is listed among the world’s 100 worst invasive alien species. We combined previous records with a field survey to update the extent and fate of myna introductions in Spain and Portugal. Results suggest that there have been at least 22 independent accidental introductions of three myna species throughout the Iberian peninsula and three archipelagos since the early 1990s. While bank mynas (A. ginginianus) did not become established elsewhere, common mynas reached breeding populations on four islands. Eradication efforts allowed the extirpation of these breeding island populations, but common mynas continue to breed in the Tagus Estuary (continental Portugal). In this region, there is also a breeding population of crested mynas (A. cristatellus), which was undergone an exponential population growth in the last decade. To avoid further accidental introductions, eradication campaigns should be combined with preventive actions aiming to stop the trade of these species in Europe.

Abstract:
Black-winged myna (Acridotheres melanopterus) is an endemic bird of Java and Bali, currently critically endangered based on International Union of Conservation for Nature (IUCN) since 2010. The study about black-winged myna morphological characteristic is important because it has two relatives with almost identical features of morphology. The information can be used as a basis in breeding management to avoid hybridization. The study aims to determine the morphological characteristics of black-winged myna. The sample selection was done using purposive sampling method. Data was taken from 36 black-winged mynas with >=2 years old. Data collection was done by measuring and documenting every morphological feature of the observed body parts. Documentation of the wings, back, chest, head and sides of the body are taken from each bird using a digital camera. The results showed that almost the entire body of black-winged myna covered by white feather, black feather only present on the cover of the wings and tail. Black eyes surrounded by yellow skin without feather. The beak is orange with blackish parts around the nostrils. The bird has yellow legs with three fingers at the front and one finger at the back. The average body length of this bird is 22.5 cm, weight 89.02 g, width 5.98 cm, body circumference 14.36 cm and wingspan 38.49 cm.

Abstract:
This article elaborates on an online mentoring session conducted with a colleague who has 17 years of experience as an EFL instructor at a university, in Turkey. Specifically, this article describes instances where three positive emotions occurred, namely, joy, interest, and serenity (Fredrickson, 1998). The session was a part of the assignments in an advisor training course, and the purpose was firstly to practice what is referred to as intentional reflective dialogue (IRD; Kato & Mynard, 2016), using advising strategies and a tool called picture of life (POL; Kato, 2017). The analysis of the excerpts from the session showed that the utilization of advising strategies and POL unearthed three positive emotions which serve certain functions in the mentee’s life.
