Full textThis Master s dissertation is directly related to the context of my professional experience as an Educator at the Museum of the Portuguese Language MLP located in the Estação da Luz (train station), in the city of São Paulo. The MLP is, therefore, the object of this study. In this sense, I have defined this museum as a large and complex text that presents itself to be read by visitors. Its enunciators are the founders and organizers who conceived and implemented it: Roberto Marinho Foundation. The first readers of this text are the Educators who, in their professional activities, mediate the reading of such peculiar immaterial collection that has the Portuguese language as the theme of its text. The addressees, that is, the target audience of the reading mediated by the Educators, are teachers and students in the public education system. The reading project aims, then, to validate the efficacy/efficiency relation of the museum reading. In the present dissertation, I shall attempt to expose the different strategies used by the enunciator (Museum/Educator) to configure the theme in question the Portuguese language and present it as a collection on display. The study considers the notion of verbovisual language syncretism as a fundamental conception of text and an important mechanism of analysis that allows visitors to read, understand and interpret the senses produced by the diverse forms of communication used in the presentation of the museum collection. Peculiar characteristics of this text define a reading profile which is revealed through the text itself and through the strategies of the reading process of MLP s text.

Full textThis investigation is a qualitative study that aims to understand the evidences and characteristics of scientific literacy present in the project \"The Museum goes to the Beach\", an initiative developed by MAST (Museum of Astronomy and Science), which takes museum activities to the beach during summer.Data was collected in March 2013 in Rio de Janeiro and in three different beaches of Niteroi. Besides interviews with the creators of the project and the spontaneous public, we conducted a documental analysis and an observation of activities. The literature review on scientific literacy and education in museums allowed the development of an analytical tool regarding dimensions and indicators of \"the musem goes to the beach\" that focus on two specific aspects: the intention of the project in the 1980s and in 2013 and the experience with the participants in its fifth edition. Results indicate that even though the project was not built under the perspective of scientific literacy, it involves all the proposed dimensions: scientific, science and society interface, institutional and affective, besides the majority of indicators in each of the dimensions.Even though not all indicators are explicit, we believe that the consistent presence of all the dimensions reinforce that, since its origin, the objectives of \"the museum goes to the beach\" dialogue with the goals of scientific literacy. The absence of some indicators was analyzed, such as the change in emphasis in some dimensions between the 1980s and 2013 was discussed, in the attempt to foster a critical analysis and reflection over the role of the activity \"the museum goes to the beach\", under the perspective of scientific literacy.Stating that scientific education is a process ongoing throughout life, it is evaluated that educational activities developed by science museums have great potential to its promotion. This kind of activities, if based on the proposed dimensions and indicators, can be a fundamental resource to a deeper understanding of science and its relation with society.

ABSTRACT: As we walk down Madre Deus Street, we can see a wall going all the way from Madre Deus Convent up to Nisa Palace. We are not able to glimpse what goes on behind such wall but one can acknowledge to be standing before two outstanding landmarks of Chelas’ Valley, even though those landmarks have in the meantime become foreigners in the City. From the street, the countless urban interventions done therein are easily perceived. However, it is only when we cross that wall that we are able to grasp the complexities develo over time. One can see outdoor spaces and buildings shared by two different entities along with interim situations that have been converted into final solutions. That place where crowded and empty spaces meet, yearns for some much needed boundaries’ clarification and a refreshed identity. Nonetheless where once such walls have hosted a convent and a palace, today stands the National Museum of Tile and D. Maria Pia School. By means of a demolition, rehabilitation and construction strategy, we offer an Expansion of the Museum aimed not only at providing for the current and effective needs of the Museum, but also in creating an Upkeep and Restoration School. The link between the two worlds - the Museum and the School - intends to implement new museology theories and honor the historical connection between the Convent and the Palace that has never ceased to exist. Finally and as a result from readings on its preexistence, the concepts of wall, mass and light were considered as conceptual and formal guidelines of project.

Full textThe idea of an interactive children's museum arises from the recognition of children as the main responsible for the development of a country, each of them represents a hope for the progress of a nation, so it is important to stimulate them from a very young age, awakening their natural interest and curiosity to experiment, imagine and learn. This leads us to raise the need to develop an interactive and cultural center that offers specialized programs for easy understanding of children and that, in addition to collaborating with traditional education, serves as a setting for meeting and exchanges between children and adults; promoting family and citizen participation in a place where everyone can share a common interest, the child. For the choice of land, it was sought to be decentralized but accessible. Encouraging the inclusion of culture in the most neighboring areas but at the same time allowing easy movement by public and private transport. Its privileged location of green areas marks a cultural milestone in the area, inviting citizens to explore these spaces and discover them. The functional conditioning factors in the project were based on the concept of the “server” and “served” space instilled in the school, and the different formal dynamics were discovered in the referential projects that served as a guide to define a coherent architectural match to the subject in question. The end result is defined in an architecture that promotes interaction between adults, children and the exhibits themselves.

Full textThe Huaca Garagay Site Museum project, located in San Martín de Porres district, in Lima, is an architectural-urban intervention, whose purpose seeks to protect and reinforce the importance of an archaeological space abandoned, destroyed and invaded during its history, consolidating this sector in a metropolitan public space. By doing this, I integrate this sector with the city of Lima, but also, this project will create a community space for the residents of the area, seeking to protect the architectural monument already existing in the place. This project is based on theoretical bases, which means that have been developed on the research process, giving importance to the resources that have been taken in the last 20 years to harmoniously intervene in an archaeological site, resulting in a proposal that materializes in generating a link between Pre-Hispanic architecture and Contemporary Architecture. The proposal seeks a mimesis between what exists (the Huaca Garagay) and what is new (the Museum), generating one only building. On its first level, as an excavation, will have community spaces (library, workshops) that will allow recreation and rest in a "sunken plaza” central. The second level, which will be at street level, will have the development of the Site Museum and the Auditorium, and the last level, the restaurant. Everything connected to research, administration and services area. Finally, it is concluded that the proposal has a positive result in society, the city and the environment.

Full textThis document explains the development, from its approach, of an Interactive Museum located in the district of Cercado de Lima. The location of the project was chosen in an area that maintains several archaeological remains, most of which are in a state of deterioration. The theme of the museum, Pre-Hispanic Lima, responds to the analysis of its location and seeks to rescue the interaction between the community and the vestiges of its historical past present in the territory. One of the immediate urban strategies used in the project is the connection of the museum with the archaeological site Mateo Salado through a tunnel that joins both terrains and that will be integrated into the museum's route. The project proposes an interactive concept present in the architectural dynamics, and mainly in the proposed museum, which responds to the contemporary user with a participatory exhibition, different from that of the traditional museum. Likewise, the design strategies emphasize the "Pre-Hispanic Architecture", which is presented in the form and architectural journey, and enhances the theme presented by the museum.
