Abstract:
Optimization design of multifunctional machines for making of animal feed is one of the development efforts of conventional machinery to be a multifunctional machine with electric motor drive which is to help small MSME industries so that their results and capacity are faster and more effective during the process of milling and grinding. This is a new concept designed to increase the time effectiveness of its use. This tool is specifically designed to chop odot grass and grind corn kernels, where the tool works using resources from an electric motor that moves a U-type blade or type I blade for knitting or grinding. The method used to make multifunction machines includes the development of existing models, seeking research on previous tools, refining the design model concept, making 3D models using the Solidworks Computer Aided Design (CAD) with a cycle time of 50 seconds on different test pieces and mills where assembly time is needed to complete the multifunction machine for ± 20 days or 28800 minutes.

Abstract:
The objective of this research is to develop a new type of flexible and multifunctional machine tool which can be integrated into such manufacturing processes as machining, inspection and the heat treatment of mechanical products. The functional requirements of the multifunctional machine tools were initially analyzed based on a questionnaire given to both the users and the designers of machine tools. The basic configuration of the machine tool is proposed to conform to the functional requirements. The configuration designed has two main spindles, for both the tool and the work, one subspindle, and eight rotational and linear feed axes. All the machining processes of turning, milling, 5-axis machining of sculpted surfaces, grinding, slotting gear shaving and laser processing can be carried out using the proposed machine tool without the need for manual set-ups. A simulation model and a scale model are developed that simulate the manufacturing motion processes and the set-up processes of the machine tool.

Abstract:
In this paper we present a multifunctional combined CNC machine that integrates the technology of USM, EDM and grinding. For non-conductive hard and brittle materials, the machine tool could perform ultrasonic machining and grinding machining combined ultrasonic vibration; for conductive hard and brittle materials, electrical discharge with or without ultrasonic vibration could be implemented. Conductive engineering ceramics have been used for elementary experiments, the results show that it is more efficient and more stable for processing this kind of materials by using the multifunctional combined CNC machine. On the basis of brief introduction about the structure of the machine tool, this paper emphasizes the form of control system, the gap state inspection that can be used to ensure the stability in processing and the principle for servo control.

Abstract:
This paper presents a PMAC-based combined CNC machine that integrates technologies of ultrasonic machining, electrical discharge machining and high speed grinding. As a multifunctional machine, it can provide diverse machining methods for different materials. For hard and brittle materials, it can conduct ultrasonic machining and high-speed grinding respectively or in a combined form; for conductive hard and brittle materials, electrical discharge machining with or without ultrasonic vibration could be implemented. Driven by AC servomotors, the mechanical structure of the vertical machine is mainly composed of a cross workbench for work piece handling, and a spindle head for tool feeding or high speed rotating. Besides those mentioned above, the system management program, the pulse power generator as well as the ultrasonic generator are also analyzed in this paper. Experimental results show that this machine has a wide range of application indeed and is suitable for various materials processing.

Abstract:
To perform several micro-machining on same machine tool, a micro machining equipment was researched and developed. The equipment adopts some high and new technologies. It is equipped with high precision XYZ stage, a spindle with high rotation accuracy and variable rotation speed, a granite worktable, a block electro discharge grinding unit for machining micro rod, a ultrasonic vibration unit for workpiece vibrating, a high frequency pulse power supply for micro-ECM and a video microscopic system with high enlargement factor. The equipment can perform micro electro discharge machining (EDM), micro electrochemical machining (ECM), micro ultrasonic machining (USM) as well as their combination. It can also machine 3D microstructures. A series of experiments were carried out. Using micro-EDM, micro rods with the diameter of less than 5µm were ground on block electrode, micro holes and 3D microstructures were obtained. Shaped holes were machined by using combination of micro-EDM and micro-USM. A micro hole with the diameter of 100µm was machined via micro-ECM.

Abstract:
The competition on the international markets pushes manufacturers towards shorter design cycles and decreasing manufacturing times and costs for their products. This trend generates a demand for smart, flexible and faster machining systems, easy to set up and configure, which are able to drastically reduce machining time and improve the final accuracy. This paper rises from these considerations evaluating the possible application of multifunction materials in machine tool (MT) design and building. These solutions can provide a fundamental impact on functionality and reliability of a manufacturing system. In particular, use of innovative materials in today’s technology continues to grow steadily. Numerous reasons for this growth include light weight, superior insulating abilities, energy absorbing performance, excellent strength/weight ratio and low cost. This paper aims to investigate a possible application of multifunction materials in realisation of structure components for Machine Tools. There are many aspects that affect the machining accuracy and the cutting conditions of a high performance MT. The most important issues are related to the static, dynamic, mechatronic and thermal behavior of the machines. In particular, a strict requirement that a machine tool has to fulfill in order to drastically reduce operating time while improving the final accuracy is the thermal stability. This paper shows a complete study and testing validation on prototypes (plates and beam) based on sandwiches with core made of metal foam (open and closed cells) materials impregnated by a PCM (Phase Material Change) wax. Metal foams represent a class of materials with low density and novel physical, mechanical, thermal, electrical and acoustic proprieties. They offer potential for lightweight structures, for energy absorption and thermal management. PCMs are latent heat storage materials that absorb heat keeping constant the temperature of a machine component in a defined time range. The authors have designed, realized and tested the prototypes developing thermal trials, and then evaluating the comparison between experimental data and simulative analysis (FEM). The trials consisted to process the prototypes at a variation of temperature in order to assess the PCM proprieties to absorb heat and maintain thermal stability in a defined time range. The paper shows also a simulative study on PCM material behavior and their application in MT design supported by experimental trials and data analysis. The significant advantages and perspectives that can be obtained in applying of these MT structures complete the developed study.

Abstract:
This paper describes a multifunctional haptic machine, a device that is used for assisting unskilled people in the assessment and training of hand movements. Sketching, hatching and cutting operations are assisted through the multifunctional device by using the haptic point-based approach. The device has enabled users to haptically interact with a 2D virtual template, which acts as a virtual tool path taking advantages of its force feedback capabilities. For sketching, hatching and cutting operations the haptic device is driven under the user movement and assisted through the Magnetic Goemetry Effect (MGE). Two configurations of the multifunctional device have been analyzed; the cartesian and the RR mechanism attached to the PHANTOM device. For sketching and hatching several pencils and pens colors are available. Regarding the cutting operation, a hot wire cutting tool can be replaced for cutting soft materials as expanded and extruded polystyrene foam. This paper discusses the design concept, kinematics and mechanics of the multifunctional haptic device. A brief test using the device in sketching, hatching and cutting operations is also given.
