A police officer’s job is full of high danger, high stress and high laboriousness. Police officers have many problems in terms of work, life and health issues due to complicated work and high performance requirements. In order to solve the above problems, this study aimed to explore the usage condition, barriers and challenges of implementing employee assistance of programs (EAPs) into the police department. Service program models, content and effectiveness were also analyzed based on the literature reviews and case studies of public sector and private sector. This study used a qualitative research method to conduct in-depth interviews. Six police officers working within the police departments of the Taichung City Government in Taiwan were invited to participate in this study. Participants included officials, promoters and superintendents who used to carry out EAPs. This study summarized the cognitive situation, the demands of assistance, the assessment, program models and further categorized the factors of success and failure of EAPs from the interviews. This study concluded that police officers were not very knowledgeable of EAPs. Their demand scopes of assistances included work, life and health problems. The users of EAPs agreed that the EAPs were important and useful to solve specific problems of the employees. Generally, the promoters of EAPs had emphasized psychological assessment and referral. However, they lacked assessment and a verification mechanism. The promoter and superintendent preferred the internal and consortium models. There were three factors that determined the success of EAPs and they were; support from the chiefs, EAPs confidentiality issues and social support. There were four factors that contributed to the failure of EAPs and they were; lack of professionals, lack of operating procedures, insufficient knowledge of EAPs and the effect of labeling. Finally, this study provides some suggestions for practical EAPs workers and future researchers can further extend related topics based on the results of this study.

This study proposes an integrated hybrid non-linear threshold autoregression model (TAR) & momentum TAR model (MTAR) approach for measuring the asymmetric and nonlinear relationships between Taiwan index futures and spot prices. The data series are from the Jan. 6, 2009 to Apr. 30, 2013. The empirical results first using unit-root test and has confirmed the series data stationary. Then, using Johansen cointegration test made sure the return of futures and spot had an equilibrium relationship in the long run. Finally, employing a hybrid TAR & MTAR model examine the asymmetric relationships between futures and spot prices. The main results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. The results of unit roots test in the time series indicates that two series are integrated of order 0, I(0).From the results of Johansen cointegration test, there is an underlying long–term relationship between Taiwan index futures and spot returns. 2. From the results of hybrid TAR & MTAR model, there is an asymmetric transmission relationship between Taiwan index futures and spot returns.

The research investigates non-linear relations of WTI oil price and US Dollar Index on the US market and URALS oil price and RUB/USD exchange rate on Russian market. The study includes unit root test (stationarity test), non-linear threshold cointegration test and Granger causality test. The empirical results and analysis suggest that oil prices and national currencies are all stationary. Also, oil price and currency are co-integrated in the long run on both markets. Apart from that, the relationship is symmetric on the US market and threshold asymmetric on Russian market. Finally, oil price leads US dollar in the short run and in the long run.
