Abstract:
Banana is a favorite fruit of the Indonesian people. So far, only the fruit is consumed, while the peel, hump and others are useless and become waste. The banana peel and banana humps contain high nutritional value. So that it has the potential to be processed as a food product, such as “sale” of banana peels, abon and banana hump jerky. This product can be an added income for woman’s, the members of the Taklim (MT) assembly of An Nur. MT consists of woman’s from various professional backgrounds. Most of them are ordinary housewives who are also agent of Posyandu RW 03 Cileunyi Kulon Village, Kec. Cileunyi Kab. Bandung. Some of them are teachers and entrepreneurs. Training on making food made from banana humps and peel was carried out for two months. Consisting of counseling on nutritional content, the practice of making “Sale”, shredded meat and beef jerky, and marketing strategies. The obstacle faced is the limitation of banana humps, because banana only found when bananas are harvested. While the processing of banana peels produces products that have less attractive colors because of the browning process that is common in processing bananas so that dyes are needed. Marketing using online media is not suitable for members of MT An Nur, where only a few members have social media and smart phones. In the future, this skill is expected to be the provision of mothers to improve their nutritional status and family economy and can be disseminated through their own MT programs and posyandu programs at the RW, village and sub-district levels.

Abstract:
Dried Albizia leaf mould (10 mt/ha) and banana peel (0.1-0.5 mt/ha) with reduced level of NP chemical fertilizers were applied on the production of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.).The experiment was carried out in a randomized complete block design with seven treatments. The result revealed that the combined application of 10 mt/ha leaf mould and 0.1 mt/ha banana peel with 50% NP chemical fertilizer as basal and 50% N as top dressing (T6) exhibited higher yield than recommended 100% NPK chemical fertilizer alone (T2). Plants treated with fertilizers showed significant influences (P<0.05) in the growth parameters such as leaf area, length, fresh and dry weight among treatments. Remarkable differences (P>0.05) in number of fruits per plant were obtained. Among the treatments, considerable variations in fruit diameter, fresh and dry weight of fruit (P<0.05) were observed. An increase in the fresh weight of fruit per plant by approximately 8.5% was obtained in T6 when compared with the control (T2). The marketable fruit yield per m2 was 654.71 g in T6 and 603.61 g in the control. It was also noted that combined use of organic (leaf mould with banana peel) and chemical fertilizers increased fruit yield when compared to the application of organic fertilizer (leaf mould with banana peel) alone as basal application. From this study, it could be concluded that Albizialeaf mould (10 mt/ha) and banana peel (0.1 mt/ha) with 50% NP chemical fertilizers as basal and also 50% N chemical fertilizer as top dressing could be used for obtaining high fruit yield in okra cultivation. Abstract:
In recent years, instead of the use of chemical substances, alternative substances, especially plant extracts, have been characterized for an active packaging of antibacterial elements. In this study, the peels of mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana), rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum), and mango (Mangifera indica) were extracted to obtain bioactive compound by microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) and maceration with water, ethanol 95% and water–ethanol (40:60%). All extracts contained phenolics and flavonoids. However, mangosteen peel extracted by MAE and maceration with water/ethanol (MT-MAE-W/E and MT-Ma-W/E, respectively) contained higher phenolic and flavonoid contents, and exhibited greater antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Thus, both extracts were analyzed by liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer (LC-MS) analysis, α-mangostin conferring antibacterial property was found in both extracts. The MT-MAE-W/E and MT-Ma-W/E films exhibited 30.22 ± 2.14 and 30.60 ± 2.83 mm of growth inhibition zones against S. aureus and 26.50 ± 1.60 and 26.93 ± 3.92 mm of growth inhibition zones against E. coli. These clear zones were wider than its crude extract approximately 3 times, possibly because the film formulation enhanced antibacterial activity with sustained release of active compound. Thus, the mangosteen extracts have potential to be used as an antibacterial compound in active packaging.

Abstract:
Annually, millions of tons of foods are generated with the purpose to feed the growing world population. One particular eatable is orange, the production of which in 2018 was 75.54 Mt. One way to valorize the orange residue is to produce bioethanol by fermenting the reducing sugars generated from orange peel. Hence, the objective of the present work was to determine the experimental conditions to obtain the maximum yield of reducing sugars from orange peel using a diluted acid hydrolysis process. A proximate and chemical analysis of the orange peel were conducted. For the hydrolysis, two factorial designs were prepared to measure the glucose and fructose concentration with the 3,5-DNS acid method and UV-Visible spectroscopy. The factors were acid concentration, temperature and hydrolysis time. After the hydrolysis, the orange peel samples were subjected to an elemental SEM-EDS analysis. The results for the orange peel were 73.530% of moisture, 99.261% of volatiles, 0.052% of ash, 0.687% of fixed carbon, 19.801% of lignin, 69.096% of cellulose and 9.015% of hemicellulose. The highest concentration of glucose and fructose were 24.585 and 9.709 g/L, respectively. The results highlight that sugar production is increased by decreasing the acid concentration.

Abstract:
Abstract This study was conducted to investigate the effect of low-density polyethylene on the microstructural and mechanical properties of 3105 aluminum composites produced by the continuous hot-press method. This production method ensures superior flatness to the composite and excellent peel strength between the composite plies. To this end, the bond between AA3105 and low-density polyethylene was initially characterized using a T-Peel stripping test. Tensile tests were performed on AA3105, low-density polyethylene and 3105 aluminum composites for determining mechanical behavior. A scanning electron microscope was used to characterize the cross-sectional cuts of the 3105 aluminum composite specimens obtained from the tensile tests. The microstructural analysis shows that low-density polyethylene and AA3105 exhibit a good interfacial adhesion bond before the fracture of the first AA3105 sheet. The results of the tensile tests clearly show that the uniform elongation at maximum load (Ag) of the 3105 aluminum composite is higher than that of AA3105. Furthermore, AA3105 exhibits negative strain rate sensitivity due to dynamic strain aging while 3105 aluminum composite exhibits a higher strain-hardening exponent than AA3105. Due to the higher strain rate sensitivity and strain hardening exponent, the 3105 aluminum composite exhibits higher formability than AA3105. This is of crucial importance for the manufacturing process.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper was based on the application of novel breadfruit peel fiber (BFPF), a cheap agro-waste as reinforcer in low-density polyethylene matrix (LDPE) to produce breadfruit peel fiber-low-density-polyethylene composite (BFPF-LDPE) for industrial production. To achieve this, the influence of BFPF weight at different treatment routes on the mechanical properties and water absorption resistance of LDPE was examined. The BFPF was modified with sodium hydroxide (MS), sodium hydroxide/acetic acid (AM) and sodium hydroxide/acetic acid/maleated polyethylene (MM). The results showed that the treatment of BFPF with sodium hydroxide/acetic acid/maleated polyethylene gave better properties than composites produced with either sodium hydroxide or combination of sodium hydroxide/ acetic acid treatment, while untreated (UM) composite provided the poorest. This is a result of anhydride radical in MM which is absent in AM and MS. However, the tensile and impact strength for the crude LDPE indicated higher values than UM, MS, AM and MM of BFPF-LDPE composite, respectively. Furthermore, the tensile modulus, flexural strength and hardness of BFPF-LDPE composite after inclusion of UM, MS, AM and MM showed immense improvement as compared to the raw LDPE. The modified BFPF enhanced sorption resistance of the BFPF-LDPE composite. Therefore, the BFPF-LDPE composite of MM can be applied as an alternative material for the replacement of particle board in construction and automobile parts.

Abstract Reflective practices in pre-service teacher education enables teachers to evaluate their pedagogical skills. This study aimed to integrate different assessment techniques such as peer assessment, lecturer assessment and self-assessment in a micro-teaching setting. Using 20 pre-service teachers post-microteaching (MT) reflection, we explored how these teachers viewed peer feedback and lecturer feedback. This study also analyses how pre-service teachers self-evaluate their MT. The findings indicate that per-service teachers find both peer and lecturer feedback useful in terms of in terms of identifying their strengths and weaknesses as well as proving incentives for improvement. Furthermore, the findings show that when engaged in self-evaluation, the pre-service teachers tend to focus more on self-knowledge. The findings reaffirm the importance of peer and self-evaluation in teacher education.

Abstract:
Background:Mental toughness (MT) is often referred to as one of the most important psychological attributes underpinning the success of athletes. Although selected studies have examined this common supposition, research in this area has yet to be synthesized. Objective:The purpose of this study was to review the quantitative literature on MT, competitive standard, achievement level, and performance (competitive and non-competitive) in sport.Method:Searches using a specified key term were performed in 10 databases during August 2016. Following an initial screening of the unique records that were identified (N = 1025), 19 peer-reviewed articles met the eligibility criteria for inclusion in the review. Results:The majority of MT-competitive standard studies (N = 10) found total (66.7%) or subcomponent (71.4%) MT differences, with mentally tougher athletes participating at higher levels of competition. Of the remaining studies (N = 9), most indicated (77.8%) mentally tougher athletes tend to achieve more or perform better. Conclusion:Collectively, the results point to mentally tougher athletes’ superior levels of success. The findings are discussed alongside the limitations associated with this part of the current MT in sport literature, with several important areas outlined for scholars to consider and pursue when conducting future research.

Abstract:
Abstract Multicomponent training (MT) combines aerobic, strength, postural, and balance exercises, and has been presented as a promising intervention strategy for dementia due to its potential influence in treating symptoms and/or delaying the disease progression in addition to its intrinsic health benefits. This study aims to systematize evidence on how effective MT is in what concerns physical fitness, cognition, and functionality in dementia patients. Four databases (PubMed, WoS, Scopus & SportDiscus) were systematically searched to locate potential trials through March 2019. A total of 2,312 records were identified and a final set of 17 manuscripts reviewed; of these, only 6 satisfied all inclusion/exclusion criteria: peer-reviewed studies performed with humans aged 60+ years; interventions exclusively MT conducted with clinically diagnosed dementia patients; controlled trials (randomized or not). Cochrane Collaboration’s tool was used to estimate risk of bias. Samples sizes ranged from 27 to 170 participants; MT programs lasted between 4 weeks up to 12 months, took place from a daily basis to twice a week, and sessions ranged from 30 to 60min. Routine medical care was the most frequent intervention offered to control groups. In overall, studies revealed that MT benefits agility/balance, gait speed and strength. Evidence remains unclear regarding MT effectiveness on increasing cognitive function and ADL performance, although maintenance and more pronounced decline on control groups were reported. MT may be an important non-pharmacological strategy to enhance physical conditioning on dementia patients, but further evidence is needed for acknowledging its benefits in specific cognitive abilities and ADL performance.

Full text
Abstract:
The microseismic method is the dominant geophysical tool for monitoring hydraulic fracturing. High-pressure injection of fluids creates fractures in the sub-surface, recorded as small seismic events. Inverting such events yields the temporal and spatial extent of deformation; however, there is no straightforward relationship between the location of micro-deformations and the migration of injected fluid. In this peer-reviewed paper, an alternative approach to deep-fluid monitoring using the magnetotelluric (MT) method is presented. As MT is primarily sensitive to the presence of fluids (through changes in the bulk electrical resistivity) and the orientation of fluid connection, this technique may yield important constraints on how fluids propagate from the well with time. This technique has been successfully used to monitor hydraulically induced fractures in two geothermal settings at depths of more than 3 km. A 10-stage horizontal-well hydraulic-fracture in the Cooper Basin for a shale-gas reservoir was monitored using MT. From the central injecting well, four lines of instruments were placed radially in a cross-pattern. These new electric and magnetic loggers were deployed for a continuous monitoring period of 65 days. As changes in the magnetic field are spatially uniform across the extent of the survey area, only two magnetic-field data recorders were placed in the array. A third logger was placed 10 km from the well, for redundancy and as a remote reference. Measurements were taken from mid-May to mid-July 2014, while the injection and drawback occurred for approximately one month. Processing regimes were created to convert field data into MT responses and resistivity models of the Earth. Theory, survey practice and outputs from this experiment are presented in this peer-reviewed paper.

Abstract Reduction in wear of artificial bio-implants results in the release of a lesser amount of wear particles into the blood stream. This paper focuses on analyzing the tribological behavior of ceramic and polyethylene bio-materials experimentally. Four different biomaterials namely Zirconia, Silicon Nitride, UHMWPE (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene) and PEEK (polyether ether ketone) are investigated for friction and wear coefficients using a pin on disc (PoD) tribometer. Alumina (Al2O3) is chosen as the disc material. Polyethylene based UHMWPE and PEEK are used as a pin material with the hemispherical end, while, Zirconia and Silicon Nitride ceramic materials are used in the form of spherical ball. 0.9 % NaCl (saline solution) is used as a lubricant medium. Zirconia showed a better reduction in friction and wear coefficient characteristics under lubrication conditions when compared with polyethylene and other ceramic materials. The estimated friction and wear coefficients would be helpful for surgeons and academicians to choose better wear-resistant bio-compatible materials for effectively design hip prosthesis. The present study compared the tribological behaviors of ceramic materials Si3N4 and ZrO2 and polyethylene materials PEEK and UHMWPE with a ceramic counterpart Al2O3 disc. In the lubrication case, ZrO2 showed a better reduction in friction and wear characteristics while in the dry case UHMWPE showed lesser wear characteristics.

BackgroundPsychosocial interventions are essential tools in mental health care and rehabilitation. A range of interventions relevant to rehabilitation that are covered in a German DGPPN S3 guideline on psychosocial interventions are discussed.MethodsLiterature search and (mostly) systematic reviews were performed for a range of psychosocial interventions.FindingsMilieu therapy (MT) includes measures that impinge on therapeutic milieu/atmosphere in joint professional/user groups in the course of treatment. MT provides a context in which psychosocial interventions can be implemented. There is evidence of its effectiveness in improving mental health outcomes. Peer involvement (PI) and peer support are supported by promising evidence as innovative interventions in mental health care. Findings on case management (CM) are inconsistent. There are difficulties in defining CM. CM strengths include treatment satisfaction and continuity of care. With respect to integration in the labour market for people with severe mental illness supported employment (SE) has been shown to be more effective in achieving job placement. A proportion of SE users fail to find jobs on the general labour market. Other types of work rehabilitation are required, and there is room for pre-vocational training interventions.DiscussionPsychosocial interventions are strong interventions. The strength of the evidence is varied. The use of psychosocial interventions rests on experience, evidence and ethics.ConclusionsPsychosocial interventions are indispensable in building mental health care systems. Vocational interventions and residential services are mandatory. Peer involvement could help in moving mental health services forward.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract:
e18627 Background: Oncology drug development often requires the use of non-randomized, open-label, phase 2 basket studies to better understand the early activity and safety of a potential new therapy. As such, baseline demographics and disease characteristics may differ between cohorts which can impact the perception of efficacy between cohorts. TAZ, a first-in-class, oral enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) inhibitor was approved by the US FDA after demonstrating single-agent, antitumor activity in a phase 2 study in adults with wild-type (WT) or mutant (MT) EZH2 R/R FL who had received ≥2 prior systemic therapies (NCT01897571). Differences between the cohorts in baseline characteristics known to be prognostic for clinical outcomes were noted, with the WT EZH2 cohort enrolling more patients with poor-risk features. This analysis assessed outcomes in the 2 groups after minimizing differences in baseline characteristics by creating a matched sample of directly comparable WT and MT patients. Methods: Propensity scores for each WT (n = 54) and MT (n = 45) EZH2 patient in the study were generated, based on the likelihood of being selected given their baseline characteristics. Characteristics identified for inclusion in the model were chosen if they were prognostic based on peer-reviewed literature and where larger differences were observed between cohorts at baseline: ECOG performance status, number of prior lines of anticancer therapy, progression of disease within 24 months, double refractory status, and prior history of hematopoietic stem cell transplant. Patients were matched 1:1 on propensity score, using a nearest-neighbor approach with caliper restrictions. Baseline covariates between the two matched groups were found to be sufficiently balanced. Objective response rate (ORR) point estimates were measured for the matched WT and MT EZH2 groups, and progression-free survival (PFS) was described using Kaplan-Meier analyses. Results: The propensity-matched sample included 56 patients (28 WT and 28 MT). Prior to matching, ORR was 35% (95% CI [22%, 48%]) in the WT and 69% (95% CI [55%, 83%]) in MT EZH2 groups; after matching, the ORR was 50% (95% CI [31%, 69%]) and 71% (95% CI [54%, 88%]), respectively. Median PFS was 11.1 months (95% CI [5.4, 16.7]) in the WT and 13.8 months (95% CI [11.1, 22.1]) in the MT EZH2 groups prior to matching, and 14.3 months (95% CI [11.1, inf]) and 14.8 (95% CI [10.7, inf]) months in the WT and MT EZH2 matched groups, respectively. Conclusions: As expected, efficacy remained higher in the MT EZH2 group; however, after adjustment, the ORR and PFS improved in the WT EZH2 group. This hypothesis-generating analysis suggests that outcomes in patients with WT EZH2 R/R FL treated with TAZ may have been more similar to those in the MT EZH2 group in the phase 2 trial had the baseline disease characteristics been more equally matched.

Abstract:
A novel enzyme activity that catalyzes the degradation of unconjugated bilirubin (Bu) has been demonstrated in extracts of the peels of edible oranges. Unlike the few known bilirubin-oxidizing enzymes, the orange enzyme does not produce biliverdin as a product, does not seem to require oxygen, and has a unique absorption spectrum of its products. Even at the crude stage, the enzyme has a specific activity that is 10 and 20 times higher, respectively, than those reported for the crude or partially purified Bu-degrading enzymes from mushrooms and rat liver. The enzyme has apH optimum near 7.5 and a Km value of 50–100 μM for Bu. The enzyme is remarkably stable, retaining over 50% activity after prolonged digestion with proteinase K or heating at 100 °C. Similar treatments inactivated the bilirubin oxidase from Myrothecium verrucaria MT-1. The enzyme is poorly soluble in water but can be partially solubilized with cholic acid, with a doubling in specific activity.

Abstract:
Introduction: Manual therapy (MT) is widely used by several healthcare professions to treat musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s), still, there isn’t enough evidence to support its choice a therapeutic approach to these disorders. Researchers have been using surface electromyography (sEMG) to understand the effects and efficiency of MT. This study aims to evaluate the current literature using sEMG to assess muscle parameters within the scope of the use of MT. Methods and Analysis: The search will be performed in 26 electronic databases and journals using the PRISMA Statement. Selection of the studies, data extraction and validation will be performed independently by two reviewers. These studies shall be categorized towards their aims to capture what the authors have been interest in. The overall quality will be assessed using Jadad Scale and the quality of the reporting of EMG data will be assessed using the ISEK standards. This review is oriented toward identifying failure to report of methods in the studies selected, which directly affect their reproducibility. Dissemination: Outcomes of this review will be published in a peer-review journal. It may encourage future authors in this area of study to avoid failing to report all the relevant data in their studies.

Abstract:

Abstract:
We report on a custom-built UHV-compatible Magneto-Optical Kerr Effect (MOKE) magnetometer for applications in surface and materials sciences, operating in tandem with the PhotoEmission Electron Microscope (PEEM) endstation at the Nanospectroscopy beamline of the Elettra synchrotron. The magnetometer features a liquid-nitrogen-cooled electromagnet that is fully compatible with UHV operation and produces magnetic fields up to about 140 mT at the sample. Longitudinal and polar MOKE measurement geometries are realized. The magneto-optical detection is based on polarization analysis using a photoelastic modulator. The sample manipulation system is fully compatible with that of the PEEM, making it possible to exchange samples with the beamline endstation, where complementary X-ray imaging and spectroscopy techniques are available. The magnetometer performance is illustrated by experiments on cobalt ultra-thin films, demonstrating close to monolayer sensitivity. The advantages of combining in situ growth, X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism imaging (XMCD-PEEM) and MOKE magnetometry into a versatile multitechnique facility are highlighted.

Abstract:
IntroductionMassage therapy (MT) is frequently used in children. No study has systematically assessed its safety in children and adolescents. We systematically review adverse events (AEs) associated with paediatric MT.MethodsWe searched seven electronic databases from inception to December 2018. We included studies if they (1) were primary studies published in a peer-reviewed journal, (2) involved children aged 0–18 years and (3) a type of MT was used for any indication. No restriction was applied to language, year of publication and study design. AEs were classified based on their severity and association to the intervention.ResultsLiterature searches identified 12 286 citations, of which 938 citations were retrieved for full-text evaluation and 60 studies were included. In the included studies, 31 (51.6%) did not report any information on AEs, 13 (21.6%) reported that no AE occurred and 16 studies (26.6%) reported at least one AE after MT. There were 20 mild events (grade 1) that resolved with minimal intervention, 26 moderate events (grades 2–3) that required medical intervention, and 18 cases of severe AEs (grades 4–5) that resulted in hospital admission or prolongation of hospital stay; of these, 17 AEs were volvulus in premature infants, four of which were ultimately fatal events.ConclusionWe identified a range of AEs associated with MT use, from mild to severe. Unfortunately, the majority of included studies did not report if an AE occurred or not, leading to publication bias. This review reports an association between abdominal massage with volvulus without malrotation in preterm infants; it is still to be defined if this is casual or not, but our findings warrant caution in the use of abdominal massage in preterm infants.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the direct and indirect influences of workplace environment factors on the motivation to transfer the acquired training (MT) and the transfer of training. The workplace environment factors under study encompass the organizational support, supervisor support, peer support, technological support and the opportunity to use the acquired training. Design/methodology/approach In the study, the empirical data were garnered from a sample of 220 business school students, using a 52-question questionnaire. A research framework was first proposed and the structural equation modeling subsequently utilized to test the research framework and determine the direct influence of the workplace environment factors on the transfer of training and also their indirect influence on TT through the MT variable. Findings The structural equation modeling model is congruent with the empirical data, with the χ2 statistic of 24.414, the degree of freedom of 21, the p-value of 0.273, the goodness of fit index of 0.977 and the root mean square error of approximation of 0.027. The findings revealed that the workplace environment factors directly influenced the training transfer behavior of the participants and indirectly through the MT of the individuals. Most importantly, the proposed model could achieve the coefficient of prediction (R2) as high as 82 percent. Originality/value Workplace environment is important to motivation to transfer and transfer of training. To enhance the training transfer effectiveness, businesses should take into account the contributions associated with each environment factor in the design and implementation of training programs.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The study investigated the influence of parents on pupils’ conflict responses at Tangenhamo secondary school basing on the Social interdependence theory and Lederach’s Moral Imagination theory using the case study method. Parents directly intervene in pupils’ conflict and can indirectly influence gender considerations, religion and the extended family interrelationship matrix. The peer influence of adolescence is extensively divorced from parents’ factor. Although parents shape gender and religion considerations, individual pupils use them to shape future conflict responses independent to parents. Diversity in factors influencing conflict responses is becoming more pronounced due to media influence and the guidance and counselling offered in schools and the researchers recommend a more diverse conflict resolution partnership including parents in shaping conflict responses of pupils at school. The researchers believe that collaboration between parents and teachers can bring about peace oriented conflict responses in school.

Abstract:
IntroductionLate dysphagia that develops or persists years after head and neck cancer (HNC) is a disabling survivorship issue. Fibrosis is thought to stiffen connective tissues and compress peripheral nerve tracts, thereby contributing to diminished strength, flexibility, and in some cases denervation of swallowing muscles. Manual therapy (MT) is used in cancer survivors for pain and other indications, but it is unknown if increasing blood flow, flexibility and cervical range of motion (CROM) in the head and neck may improve late dysphagia. Methods and analysisManual Therapy for Fibrosis-Related Late Effect Dysphagia (MANTLE) is a National Cancer Institute-funded prospective single-arm pilot trial evaluating the feasibility, safety and therapeutic potential of MT in patients with late dysphagia after radiotherapy (RT) for HNC. Disease-free survivors ≥2 years after curative-intent RT for HNC with at least moderate dysphagia and grade ≥2 Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 4.0 fibrosis are eligible. The target sample size is 24 participants who begin the MANTLE programme. MANTLE is delivered in 10 MT sessions over 6 weeks with an accompanying home exercise programme (HEP). Patients then transition to a 6-week post-washout period during which they complete the HEP and then return for a final post-washout evaluation. Feasibility (primary endpoint) and safety will be examined. Serial assessments include CROM, modified barium swallow studies, quantitative MRI, electromyography (optional) and patient-reported outcomes as secondary, tertiary and exploratory endpoints.Ethics and disseminationThe research protocol and informed consent document was approved by the Institutional Review Board at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publication that will be made publicly available on PubMed Central on acceptance for publication, in compliance with NIH public access policy.Trial registration numberNCT03612531.

Abstract:
A female patient with substantial history and physical findings of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome by systematic evaluation had a variant in the gene encoding the sixth subunit of mitochondrial ATP synthetase gene that produced a change from glycine to aspartic acid at position 132 of the MT-ATP6 protein (MT-ATP6 m.8921G>A, p.Gly132Asp). The mutation was heteroplasmic, affecting 32% of the mitochondria in blood leucocytes, was qualified as a pathogenic variant because of its significant molecular change, but was not detected in the maternal blood sample as might be expected for its low degree of heteroplasmy. The patient was shown to have typical findings of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome by comparison of 48 history and physical findings in her and a peer group of 32 teenage females with that diagnosis. None of the classical neurosensory or developmental symptoms of mitochondrial disease were present in mother or daughter, but the patient had symptoms, metabolite alterations during rest or exercise, and muscle biopsy changes that suggested mild mitochondrial dysfunction. She also had heterozygous variants of uncertain significance in the nuclear PLOD1, FLNA, and ATP2A genes by concomitant whole exome sequencing that could also contribute to her arthritis-adrenaline disorder. Mitochondrial dysfunction is proposed to influence neuromuscular components of connective tissue, acting through an articulo-autonomic dysplasia cycle to cause the typical joint-skin laxity and dysautonomia of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

Abstract:
IntroductionPacing-induced cardiomyopathy occasionally occurs in patients undergoing pacemaker implantation. Although compared with right ventricular (RV) apical pacing, RV septal pacing can attenuate left ventricular dyssynchrony; the success rate of lead placement on the RV septum using the stylet system is low. Additionally, no randomised controlled trial has addressed the issue regarding the accuracy of RV lead placement on the RV septum using the stylet and delivery catheter systems. This study hypothesises that a newly available delivery catheter system can improve the accuracy of RV lead placement on the RV septum. Methods and analysisIn a multicentre, prospective, randomised, single-blind, controlled trial, 70 patients with pacemaker indication owing to atrioventricular block will be randomised to either the delivery catheter or stylet group before the pacemaker implantation procedure. The position of the RV lead tip will be assessed using ECG-gated cardiac CT in all patients within 4 weeks after pacemaker implantation. Lead tip positions are classified into three groups: (1) RV septum, (2) anterior/posterior edge of the RV septal wall and (3) RV free wall. The primary endpoint will be the success rate of RV lead tip placement on the RV septum, which will be evaluated using cardiac CT.Ethics and disseminationThis study will be conducted according to the stipulations of the Helsinki Declaration and the institutional review board of Hamamatsu University School of Medicine. Abstract:
IntroductionNeuroplasticity is defined as the capacity of the brain to reorganise new neuronal pathways. Mirror therapy (MT) and cognitive therapeutic exercise (CTE) are two neurorehabilitation techniques based on neuroplasticity and designed to improve the motor functions of the affected upper extremity in patients with severe hemiparesis after a stroke. Home-based interventions are an appropriate alternative to promote independence and autonomy. The objective of this study is to evaluate which of these techniques, MT and CTE, combined with task-oriented training, is more effective in functional recovery and movement patterns of the upper extremities in patients with severe hemiparesis after a stroke. Methods and analysisThis is a home-based, single-blind, controlled, randomised clinical trial with three parallel arms, including 154 patients who had a stroke aged above 18 years. The primary outcome will be the functionality of the affected upper extremity measured using the Fugl-Meyer Assessment. Secondary variables will include cognitive performance, emotional state, quality of life and activities of daily living. During 6 weeks, one of the intervention groups will receive a treatment based on MT and the other one on CTE, both combined with task-oriented training. No additional interventions will be provided to the control group. To assess the progress of patients who had a stroke in the subacute phase, all variables will be evaluated at different visits: initial (just before starting treatment and 4 weeks post-stroke), post-intervention (6 weeks after initial) and follow-up (6 months).Ethics and disseminationThis protocol has been approved by the Institutional Review Board (CEIm-2.134/2.019) and registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04163666). The results will be disseminated through open-access peer-reviewed journals, conference presentation, broadcast media and a presentation to stakeholders. These study results will provide relevant and novel information on effective neurorehabilitation strategies and improve the quality of intervention programmes aimed at patients after a stroke.Trial registration numberClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04163666).

Abstract:
ObjectivePeer education is an intervention within the voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC)–adolescent sexual reproductive health (ASRH) linkages project in Bulawayo and Mount Darwin, Zimbabwe since 2016. Little is known if results extend beyond increasing knowledge. We therefore assessed the extent of and factors affecting referral by peer educators and receipt of HIV testing services (HTS), contraception, management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and VMMC services by young people (10–24 years) counselled.DesignA cohort study involving all young people counselled by 95 peer educators during October–December 2018, through secondary analysis of routinely collected data.SettingAll ASRH and VMMC sites in Mt Darwin and Bulawayo.ParticipantsAll young people counselled by 95 peer educators.Outcome measuresCensor date for assessing receipt of services was 31 January 2019. Factors (clients’ age, gender, marital and schooling status, counselling type, location, and peer educators’ age and gender) affecting non-referral and non-receipt of services (dependent variables) were assessed by log-binomial regression. Adjusted relative risks (aRRs) were calculated.ResultsOf the 3370 counselled (66% men), 65% were referred for at least one service. 58% of men were referred for VMMC. Other services had 5%–13% referrals. Non-referral for HTS decreased with clients’ age (aRR: ~0.9) but was higher among group-counselled (aRR: 1.16). Counselling by men (aRR: 0.77) and rural location (aRR: 0.61) reduced risks of non-referral for VMMC, while age increased it (aRR ≥1.59). Receipt of services was high (64%–80%) except for STI referrals (39%). Group counselling and rural location (aRR: ~0.52) and male peer educators (aRR: 0.76) reduced the risk of non-receipt of VMMC. Rural location increased the risk of non-receipt of contraception (aRR: 3.18) while marriage reduced it (aRR: 0.20).ConclusionWe found varying levels of referral ranging from 5.1% (STIs) to 58.3% (VMMC) but high levels of receipt of services. Type of counselling, peer educators’ gender and location affected receipt of services. We recommend qualitative approaches to further understand reasons for non-referrals and non-receipt of services.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Triazole and benzimidazole fungicides have been used for controlling Fusarium head blight (FHB) in wheat for over two decades. In Brazil, it was only during the last five years that uniform fungicide trials for FHB control have been established yearly, thus contributing to a new large body of fungicide efficacy data for this country. A systematic review of both peer- and non-peer-reviewed studies on chemical control conducted since 2000 in Brazil was performed. Fungicides of interest were the triazoles tebuconazole (TEBU1x and TEBU2x) and propiconazole (PROP2x), and the benzimidazole carbendazim (CARB2x). Most fungicides were applied twice, the first at early to mid-flowering and the second 7 to 10 days later. Only TEBU was tested as one or two applications, and thus four treatments were evaluated. For these fungicides, there were 35 trials reporting FHB index and 48 reporting mean yield. Network meta-analytic models were fitted to the data of the log of the means of FHB index for each fungicide and for the nontreated check. The meta-analytic estimates were used to obtain control efficacy ([Formula: see text]), or percent disease reduction relative to the nontreated check. The absolute mean difference ([Formula: see text]) in yield (kg/ha) between the fungicide-treated and the nontreated check plots was also estimated. Yield response relative to the nontreated check ([Formula: see text]) was also calculated based on the difference in the logs of the means of yield between fungicide-treated and nontreated check. The TEBU1x, TEBU2x, and CARB2x treatments performed similarly with regards to control efficacy (= 59%, 53% and 55%, respectively), and although better than PROP2x (47%), the difference was marginally significant. Yield response ([Formula: see text]) was highest for TEBU2x, ([Formula: see text] = 558 kg/ha, [Formula: see text] = 19.2%) followed by PROP2x (497 kg/ha, 16.0%), TEBU1x (457 kg/ha, 17.3%), and CARB2x (456 kg/ha, 12.8%). For an average 2016 scenario of fungicide plus application costs (FC = $18 U.S./ha) and average wheat price (WP = $215 U.S./MT), the probability of breaking even on the financial investment in the four treatments ranged from 59 to 63%. For 140 scenarios (four fungicides) created based on the combination of five WP ($133 to 266 U.S./MT) and seven FC ($5 to 35 U.S./ha), the probability of breaking even was >50% for all but two scenarios. The information may serve as a guide for planning future trials and provides a baseline and first step toward optimizing FHB management in Brazil.

Abstract:
Growth analysis is an appropriate method for plant response to various environmental and cultural conditions during plant life. A 2-year experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of soil tillage and fertilization on the growth and growth parameters of quinoa crop and to determine the association between yield and growth characteristics at both the single plant and crop stand level. The experiment was laid out in a split-plot design with two replicates, two main plots [conventional (CT) and minimum tillage (MT)] and four sub-plots [fertilization treatments: untreated, inorganic fertilization of 100 (N1) and 200 kg N ha-1 (N2) and sheep manure]. The highest absolute growth rate (AGR) and crop growth rate (CGR) values were recorded between the middle of vegetative growth stage and the beginning of anthesis (50-75 DAS) under conventional tillage coupled with manure (AGR: 0.4577 g day-1, CGR: 11.44 g m-2 day-1) and with N2 treatment (AGR: 0.4521 g day-1, CGR: 11.31 g m-2 day-1). Concerning specific leaf area (SLA), the highest value (150.58 cm2 g-1) was found at 75 DAS in N2 treatment. Leaf area index (LAI) were positively affected by soil tillage and fertilization with greatest values found under conventional tillage coupled with N2 treatment (5.110 m2 m-2). The highest seed yield was observed in N2 treatment (2488 and 2388 kg ha-1 under CT and MT, respectively). As a conclusion, the cultivation under conventional tillage and the increasing levels of applied nitrogen up to 200 kg N ha-1 increases crop growth and yield. ********* In press - Online First. Abstract:
12509 Background: In several peer review publications (Cancer Biol Ther 2003) our team has reported a procedure of cancer immunotherapy using an autologous thermostable hemoderivative vaccine (ATHV) with anti-progressive tumor effect in metastatic malignant disease from different primary tumors including prostate cancer. Last year (ASCO Meeting 2005) we have reported that the tolerance break for tumor associated antigens through the interference with CD4+CD25+ regulatory cells is a component of the mechanism of action of the ATHV antitumoral effect. Therefore, we have intended to optimize this autologous immunotherapy adding to the procedure different steps of immune-tolerance blockage selected due to their proven efficacy in pre-clinical models and their feasibility in the frame of ATHV technology. In this study we report the results in prostate cancer when the adjuvant step added was the translational knowledge the tolerance blockage by IDO-inhibition through 1-Methyl-Tryptophane or 1-MT (Munn DH et al J Exp Med 1999). Methods: Thirty metastasic prostate cancer patients, hormone and chemotherapy resistant, Performance Status ≤ 2 and PSA progressing serum level, were included in this institutional-IRB approved phase I/II trial. The patients were randomized in 3 groups submitted to 3 different treatments: I, only sympthomatic; II, the previously reported ATHV and III, ATHV + simultaneous s.c. 1-MT. Tumor size increase (tumor growth) measured according RECIST was registered in each case. Mean difference in the 3 groups was statistically assessed (Student’s t-test). Tryptophane to Kynurenine conversion was tested to assess IDO inhibition. Results: Tumor growth was significantly slower in Group II and III than in Group I (p<0.01 and p<0.005). Tumor growth was also significantly slower in Group III than in Group II (p<0.02). IDO-inhibition was confirmed only in Group III. No relevant toxicities were detected. Conclusions: These results support that additional tolerance break by IDO-inhibition optimizes the tumor growth inhibition through immunotherapy with an autologous thermostable hemoderivative vaccine. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

Abstract:
The Central Italy earthquake sequence has, to date, generated three mainshocks: M6.1 24 August, M5.9 26 October, and M6.5 30 October 2016. These events, along with aftershocks, were well recorded by Italian networks, and are among the normal fault earthquakes with the highest number of recordings globally. We process records for six events using procedures developed during the latest Next Generation Attenuation (NGA-West2) project, coordinated by the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER). Many recording sites lacked V S30 assignments, which we provide using measured shear wave velocity profiles where available and a local geology proxy otherwise. Stations at close distance, including near the hanging wall, exhibit fling step in some cases but no obvious rupture directivity. The data exhibit fast anelastic attenuation at large distances (>100 km), as predicted by recent Italy-adjusted global models, but not by Italy-specific models. We partition residuals from Italy-adjusted global models, finding negative event terms at short periods (weaker than average shaking). We apply Kriging of within-event peak acceleration and velocity residuals using a global semi-variogram model to estimate the spatial distribution of peak accelerations and velocities, which are generally most intense southwest of Mt. Vettore.

Abstract:
For many years, carbon capture and storage (CCS) has been discussed as a technology that may make a significant contribution to achieving major reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. At present, however, only two large-scale power plants capture a total of 2.4 Mt CO2/a. Several reasons are identified for this mismatch between expectations and realised deployment. Applying bibliographic coupling, the research front of CCS, understood to be published peer-reviewed papers, is explored to scrutinise whether the current research is sufficient to meet these problems. The analysis reveals that research is dominated by technical research (69%). Only 31% of papers address non-technical issues, particularly exploring public perception, policy, and regulation, providing a broader view on CCS implementation on the regional or national level, or using assessment frameworks. This shows that the research is advancing and attempting to meet the outlined problems, which are mainly non-technology related. In addition to strengthening this research, the proportion of papers that adopt a holistic approach may be increased in a bid to meet the challenges involved in transforming a complex energy system. It may also be useful to include a broad variety of stakeholders in research so as to provide a more resilient development of CCS deployment strategies.

Abstract:

Abstract:
BackgroundThe concept of mental toughness has gained increasing importance among non-elite athletes for its psychological importance and explanatory power for a broad range of health-related behaviors. On the flip side, no study has focused so far on the psychological origins of mental toughness. Therefore, the aims of the present study were three-fold: to explore, to what extent psychological profiles of preschoolers at the age of five years predicted mental toughness scores and sleep disturbances at the age of 14 years, and to explore possible gender differences.MethodNine years after their first assessment at the age of five years (preschoolers), a total of 77 adolescents (mean age: 14.35 years; SD = 1.22; 42% females) took part in the present follow-up study. At baseline, both parents and teachers completed the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), covering internalizing and externalizing problems, hyperactivity, negative peer relationships, and prosocial behavior. At follow-up, participants completed a booklet of questionnaires covering socio-demographic data, mental toughness, and sleep disturbances.ResultsPreschoolers with high prosocial behavior and low internalizing and externalizing problems, as rated by parents and teachers, at the age of 14 years self-reported higher mental toughness and lower sleep disturbances. At the age of 14 years, and relative to their male counterparts, female participants reported lower MT scores and higher sleep disturbances.ConclusionsThe pattern of results suggests that mental toughness traits during adolescence have their origins during pre-school years.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract:
IntroductionMechanical thrombectomy (MT) increases functional independence in patients with acute ischaemic stroke with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (LVO), and the probability to achieve functional independence decreases by 20% for each 1-hour delay to reperfusion. Therefore, we aim to investigate whether direct angiosuite transfer (DAT) is superior to standard imaging/emergency department-based management in achieving 90-day functional independence in patients presenting with an acute severe neurological deficit likely due to LVO and requiring emergent treatment with MT.Methods and analysisDIRECT ANGIO (Effect of DIRECT transfer to ANGIOsuite on functional outcome in patient with severe acute stroke treated with thrombectomy: the randomised DIRECT ANGIO Trial) trial is an investigator-initiated, multicentre, prospective, randomised, open-label, blinded endpoint (PROBE) study. Eligibility requires a patient ≤75 years, pre-stroke modified Rankin Scale (mRS) 0–2, presenting an acute severe neurological deficit and admitted within 5 hours of symptoms onset in an endovascular-capable centre. A total of 208 patients are randomly allocated in a 1:1 ratio to DAT or standard management. The primary outcome is the rate of patients achieving a functional independence, assessed as mRS 0–2 at 90 days. Secondary endpoints include patients presenting confirmed LVO, patients eligible to intravenous thrombolysis alone, patients with intracerebral haemorrhage and stroke-mimics, intrahospital time metrics, early neurological improvement (reduction in National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale by ≥8 points or reaching 0–1 at 24 hours) and mRS overall distribution at 90 days and 12 months. Safety outcomes are death and intracerebral haemorrhage transformation. Medico-economics analyses include health-related quality of life and cost utility assessment.Ethics and disseminationThe DIRECT ANGIO trial was approved by the ethics committee of Ile de France 1. Study began in April 2020. Results will be published in an international peer-reviewed medical journal.Trial registration numberNCT03969511.

Abstract:
Glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP), as an important component of soil organic carbon (SOC) pool, is a glycoprotein produced by the hyphae of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), which play a vital role in carbon and nutrient cycling in forest ecosystem. Here we investigated the spatial distribution of GRSP in plant community of the dominated species not associated with AMF based on a typical coniferous and broad-leaved temperate forest in Mt. Changbai, Northeastern China. Spatial distribution of GRSP including easily extractable GRSP (EEG) and total GRSP (TG) is represented by Moran’s I on different soil depth among seven soil layers of 0-5 cm, 5-10 cm, 10-20 cm, 20-30 cm, 30-50 cm, 50-70 cm and 70-100 cm. The concentrations of EEG and TG decreased with the increase of soil depth according to a logarithmic function. The Moran’s I coefficient of GRSP was negative in all soil layers except TG in 20-30 cm and 50-70 cm soil layers. When EEG and TG were considered, the Moran’s I coefficient was positive in majority of soil layers within the separation distance of less than 4 m but in soil layers of 10-20 cm and 20-30 cm for EEG and in 30-50 cm for TG. The largest Moran’s I coefficient including EEG and TG was observed in the soil layer of 5-10 cm. The spatial distribution of GRSP was discrete in typical coniferous and broad-leaved temperate forest, and was affected by mycorrhizal colonization rate, soil organic carbon and total nitrogen. ********* In press - Online First.
