Abstract:
The excluded tan β range and Higgs boson mass region in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) depend on several parameters. The Higgs boson masses, cross-sections and branching fractions have been determined including two-loop diagrammatic calculations. The limit obtained with a more general scan over the parameter space of the MSSM are compared with those in the so-called benchmark scenario. The combination of the searches for Higgs particles in the 1999 data collected by the DELPHI collaboration at center-of-mass energies between 191.6 and 201.7 GeV allows stringent limits to be set in combination with previous DELPHI results. In addition, an interpretation in the framework of the general MSSM scan of the 2000 LEP data at the hightest energies between 201.7 and 209.0 GeV is given. We show that the current data for the HZ and hA production can be comfortably accommodated in the MSSM.

We study μ and B-parameters in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) based on the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking scenario using "bottom-up" approach and show how useful our approach is to select a phenomenologically viable model beyond the MSSM under the assumption that the underlying theory is a string model or a gauge-Yukawa unified gauge model.

Abstract:
One loop mediated charged Higgs bosons decays H± → W±V, V = Z, γ are studied in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with and without CP violating phases. We evaluate the MSSM contributions to these processes taking into account B → Xsγ constraint as well as experimental constraints on the MSSM parameters. In the MSSM, we found that in the intermediate range of tan β ≲ 10 and for large At and large μ, where the lightest top squark becomes very light and hence non-decoupled, the branching ratio of H± → W±Z can be of the order 10−3 while the branching ratio of H± → W±γ is of the order 10−5. We found also that the CP violating phases of soft SUSY parameters can modify the branching ratio by about one order of magnitude. We also show that MSSM with CP violating phases lead to CP-violating asymmetry in the decays H+ → W+V and H− → W−V. Such CP asymmetry can be rather large and can reach 80% in some region of parameter space.

Abstract:
In this paper we briefly review our recent studies on a 125 GeV Higgs and its diphoton signal rate in different low-energy supersymmetric models, namely, the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM), the nearly minimal supersymmetric standard model (nMSSM), and the constrained MSSM. Our conclusion is as follows (i) in the allowed parameter space the SM-like Higgs boson can easily be 125 GeV in the MSSM, NMSSM, and nMSSM, while it is hard to realize in the constrained MSSM; (ii) the diphoton Higgs signal rate in the nMSSM and constrained MSSM is suppressed relative to the prediction of the SM, while the signal rate can be enhanced in the MSSM and NMSSM; (iii) the NMSSM may allow for a lighter top squark than the MSSM, which can thus ameliorate the fine-tuning problem.

We consider the measurement of the trilinear couplings of the neutral Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) at a high energy [Formula: see text] linear collider in the light of the discovery of a Higgs boson at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We identify the state observed at the LHC with the lightest Higgs boson [Formula: see text] of the MSSM, and impose the constraints following from this identification, as well as other experimental constraints on the MSSM parameter space. In order to measure trilinear neutral Higgs couplings, we consider different processes where the heavier Higgs boson [Formula: see text] of the MSSM is produced in electron–positron collisions, which subsequently decays into a pair of lighter Higgs boson. We identify the regions of the MSSM parameter space where it may be possible to measure the trilinear couplings of the Higgs boson at a future electron–positron collider. A measurement of the trilinear Higgs couplings is a crucial step in the construction of the Higgs potential, and hence in establishing the phenomena of spontaneous symmetry breaking in gauge theories.

Abstract:
The first observation of the $ B_s^0 $ → µ+µ– decay mode was reported by the CMS and LHCb collaboration. The small branching ratio inherent to this decay mode makes it highly sensitive for probing physics beyond the SM and we analyze this decay in the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). Complete analytical expressions for the decay amplitude at the one-loop order have been obtained with the aid of computational tools such as FeynArts and FeynCalc. The general recipe for utilising these computational tools to aid theoretical calculations in the MSSM is discussed. Working in the phenomenological MSSM with reduced parameter space, a simplification of the complete analytical expression was done to express the $ B_s^0 $ → µ+µ– branching ratio as a function of these parameters. Numerical studies of the parametric dependence of $ B_s^0 $ → µ+µ– branching ratio in the phenomenological MSSM can be easily performed with the obtained analytical expression.

Abstract:
The constraints imposed on the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) parameter space by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Higgs mass limit and gluino mass lower bound are revisited. We also analyze the thermal relic abundance of lightest neutralino, which is the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle (LSP). We show that the combined LHC and relic abundance constraints rule out most of the MSSM parameter space except a very narrow region with very largetan⁡β (~50). Within this region, we emphasize that the spin-independent scattering cross section of the LSP with a proton is less than the latest Large Underground Xenon (LUX) limit by at least two orders of magnitude. Finally, we argue that nonthermal Dark Matter (DM) scenario may relax the constraints imposed on the MSSM parameter space. Namely, the following regions are obtained:m0≃O(4) TeV andm1/2≃600 GeV for lowtan⁡β (~10);m0~m1/2≃O(1) TeV orm0≃O(4) TeV andm1/2≃700 GeV for largetan⁡β (~50).

Abstract:
In this note we briefly review the recent studies of dark matter in the MSSM and its singlet extensions: the NMSSM, the nMSSM, and the general singlet extension. Under the new detection results of CDMS II, XENON, CoGeNT, and PAMELA, we find that (i) the latest detection results can exclude a large part of the parameter space which is allowed by current collider constraints in these models. The future SuperCDMS and XENON can cover most of the allowed parameter space; (ii) the singlet sector will decouple from the MSSM-like sector in the NMSSM; however, singlet sector makes the nMSSM quite different from the MSSM; (iii) the NMSSM can allow light dark matter at several GeV to exist. Light CP-even or CP-odd Higgs boson must be present so as to satisfy the measured dark matter relic density. In case of the presence of a light CP-even Higgs boson, the light neutralino dark matter can explain the CoGeNT and DAMA/LIBRA results; (iv) the general singlet extension of the MSSM gives a perfect explanation for both the relic density and the PAMELA result through the Sommerfeld-enhanced annihilation. Higgs decays in different scenario are also studied.

Une recherche de bosons de higgs dont les produits de desintegration sont invisibles est presentee. La selection des evenements fait appel a des reseaux de neurones dedies au rejet de chacun des bruits de fond les plus importants. Dans les donnees enregistrees en 1998 et 1999 par le detecteur aleph aupres du lep a des energies dans le centre de masse comprises entre 189 et 202 gev, et correspondant a une luminosite integree totale de 411 pb 1, aucun signal n'a ete observe. Une limite inferieure sur la masse du boson de higgs est ainsi determinee. Elle est de 106. 4 gev/c 2 a 95% de niveau de confiance, pour une section efficace de production egale a celle du boson de higgs du modele standard et un rapport d'embranchement en modes invisibles de 100%. L'interpretation des recherches de nouvelles particules dans le cadre de l'extension supersymetrique minimale du modele standard (mssm) est rendue difficile par la presence d'un grand nombre de parametres libres. En general, des valeurs de reference sont choisies pour les parametres pertinents. Le secteur de higgs a ete revisite en relachant certains hypotheses et il a ete montre que les limites sur les masses et les couplages obtenues dans les modeles tres contraints sont robustes. Cependant, pour couvrir certaines configurations absentes dans les cas de reference, des analyses specifiques ont du etre developpees. Les contraintes tres fortes provenant du secteur de higgs peuvent egalement etre utilisees pour obtenir une limite sur la masse du neutralino le plus leger, melange des partenaires supersymetriques du photon, du z, et des bosons de higgs neutres, qui est un tres bon candidat pour la matiere noire. Dans un modele semi-contraint, on obtient m x>38 gev/c 2 a 95% de niveau de confiance, ameliorant ainsi d'environ deux gev/c 2 la limite obtenue sans le secteur de higgs.

Abstract:
Mercuric Iodide is the most promising of all semiconductor materials currently under investigation for use as radiation detectors at room temperature. While substantial studies have been conducted on single crystal HgI2, polycrystalline HgI2 remains a comparatively less studied form. The HgI2 films are deposited on TEC-15 LOF glass with a Tin Oxide (SnO2) coating which acts as the growth surface and front contact. The back contact, Palladium (Pd), is deposited by sputtering through a shadow mask. The films are circular in shape with an approximate diameter of 2.5 cm and thicknesses ranging from 50-600 micro m. The film has seven contact points defined by Pd electrodes for spectral response(SR) and I-V measurements. Measurements were done on the film with a visible light source. Numerical modeling helps us understand device properties and processes that take place in operation of the device. The focus of this work was to identify loss mechanisms in photoresponse, reveal fundamental device properties, and develop a quantitative device model for MSM HgI2 thin films using the DC Device modeling simulation tool MEDICI ™. The values for input parameters were chosen from literatutheory and reasonable estimates. Comprehensive studies were performed to investigate the sensitivity of SR and light I-V characteristics to each input parameter. Surface&Bulk recombinations have been investigated in this thesis. A Single, homogeneous region with all possible combinations of carrier mobilities, surface and bulk recombination parameters was not able to explain completely the measured SR. A Two-region model with the first region (0-0.5) μ m being surface&bulk recombination dominated, and the second (0.5-300) μ m bulk recombination dominated, was able to match the complete measured SR of current devices. The key parameters determined from the simulations are the mobilities, bulk lifetimes and surface-recombination velocities at the front contact for both carriers. These are consistent with expectations based upon known single crystal properties

Abstract:
AbstractAtmospheric dispersion models (ADMs) have been widely used in simulating the contamination from released pollutants, which supports the emergency response and assist the inverse modeling for unknown source, due to its balance between accuracy and speed of calculation. The Micro-SWIFT-SPRAY modeling system (MSS) is one of the candidates that are able to accurately reproduce the wind and concentration fields with inputs of meteorology, topography, and source information. The obstacle treatments benefit its performance over dense buildings. Applying the optimal parameters to MSS, both the local and small-scale simulations were carried out in the vicinity of the same nuclear power plant (NPP) site with dense buildings and surrounded by mountains and sea. In these scenarios, the airflows came from the NE direction and cross over the sea and buildings to mountains. Both the wind and concentration results were evaluated against the measurements of two wind tunnel experiments. The results demonstrate that MSS can reproduce the variations of wind and concentration towards the changes in terrain elevation or building layout. The local-scale simulation well matches the measurements in the mountain area, whereas the small-scale one better reconstructs those around the buildings. The clusters of wind direction and speed are found that result from the topography of monitoring networks. The high concentration area around the release position is successfully reproduced, which indicates the turbulence is sufficient facing complex obstacles. Besides, MSS outperforms the concentration simulations in the local-scale scenario with a FAC5 of 0.710 and a FB of −0.010. However, the VG of the local-scale scenario reaches 15.510 meaning many extremes are introduced. The small-scale scenario obtains a lower VG of 2.303. Considering different performance dominances of two scales, nesting grids may bring improvement in the case both the simulations in the mountain and building areas are meant for the emergency response.

The maximal singularity-free workspace of parallel mechanisms is a desirable criterion in robot design. However, for a 6-dof parallel mechanism, it is very difficult to find an analytic method to determine the maximal singularity-free workspace around a prescribed point for a given orientation. Hence, a numerical algorithm is presented in this paper to compute the maximal singularity-free workspace as well as the corresponding leg length ranges of the MSSM Gough-Stewart platform. This algorithm is based on the relationship between the maximal singularity-free workspace and the singularity surface. Case studies with different orientations are performed to demonstrate the presented algorithm. The results obtained can be applied to the geometric design or parameter (leg length) setup of the MSSM parallel robots.

<p>The monitoring sleeved members (MSMs) are considered with light weight, excellent load-bearing capacity, superior ductility, and can be applied in long span spatial structure to monitor the capacity of the spatial structure. This paper mainly focuses on presenting the mechanical behaviours of the MSMs based on the full-range finite element analysis. The finite element model was developed to simulate the mechanical behaviors of the MSMs, which was verified by a specimen test. Based on the verified finite element model, parametric studies were carried out to investigate the influence of the core protrusion lp, the core slenderness ratio λi, the flexural rigidity ratio β, and the gap δg between core tube and restraining tube on the mechanical behaviours of the MSMs. It is concluded that (1) lp determines the control range of the restraining tube to the core tube. Local buckling of the MSMs with lp/l≤0.0406 occurs at a relatively small axial deformation. The ultimate bearing capacity of the MSMs with lp/l≤0.0406 is generally less than that of the MSM with lp/l&gt;0.0406; (2) λi is a sensitive parameter influencing the failure mode. The smaller the core slenderness ratio λi, the less likely global buckling will occur; (3) β guarantees the control effect of the restraining tube on the core tube. β≥8.349 is needed to avoid global buckling; (4) a proper δg determining the alert moment for contact is indispensable to monitor contact status of MSMs, but it has no effect on the failure mode.</p>

Abstract Silica is one of the most abundant substances on Earth. Chemically expressed as SiO2, silica exhibits a complicated phase diagram with multiple crystalline structures (polymorphs) at different temperature and pressure conditions. Under a shock impact, a significant amount of energy is effectively absorbed due to the phase transition of fused silica to stishovite, thereby taking most of the destructive energy away from these structures. Therefore, it is crucial to have a reliable method to investigate the mechanism behind the phase transition between fused silica and stishovite to better adapt this material as energy absorption and protection materials for future combat protection applications. In this work, the multi-scale shock technique (MSST) method is characterized to study the shock impact of fused silica. The BKS potential is employed to define the interatomic potential of fused silica. We calibrated two artificial MSST parameters, Q and tscale, concerning the simulation box size. We revealed the impact of cutoff radius rc on fused silica’s phase transition under various shock velocity conditions. We found that the selection of rc in the BKS potential influences stishovite’s nucleation, formation, and growth at different shock velocity conditions. Future work will expand the MSST method to eliminate the parameter calibration and better predict the material behavior under shock impact.

Abstract:
A multiple steam generator tube rupture (MSGTR) event in APR1400, an advanced pressurized water reactor, is investigated using the best estimate thermal hydraulic system code, MARS1.4. The effects of parameters such as the number of ruptured tubes, rupture location, affected steam generator on analysis of the MSGTR event in APR1400 are taken into account. In particular, the effects of tube rupture modeling are compared. In the present study, single tube (STM) and double tube modeling (DTM) are examined for assessment on the main steam safety valve (MSSV) lift time. Nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) and several safety systems that are relevant to the APR1400 are modeled. Automatic safety systems are assumed to mitigate the MSGTR events including the reactor protection trip, reactor coolant pump trip, the pressurizer heaters, high-pressure safety injection (HPSI) pumps, and the valves for atmospheric dump, main steam safety, main steam isolation, and turbine stop and bypass. When five tubes are ruptured, the STM permits the operator response time of 2085 seconds before lifting of MSSVs. The effects of rupture location on the MSSV lift time is not significant in case of STM, while the MSSV lift time for tube-top rupture is found to be 25.3% larger than that for rupture at hog-leg side tube sheet in case of DTM. The MSSV lift time for the cases that both steam generators are affected (4C5x, 4C23x) are found to be larger than that for the single steam generator cases (4A5x, 4B5x) due to a bifurcation of the primary leak flow. The discharge coefficient of Cd is found to affect the MSSV lift time only for smaller value of Cd below 0.5. For larger values of Cd than 0.5, its effect on the leak flow rates as well as the MSSV lift time become negligible. It is found that the most dominant parameter governing the MSSV lift time is the leak flow rate. Whichever modeling method is used, it gives the similar MSSV lift time if the leak flow rate is similar, except the case of both steam generators are affected. Therefore, the system performance and the MSSV lift time of the APR1400 are strongly dependent on the break flow model used in the best estimate system code.
