Abstract:
ABSTRACT The chicken cardiac troponin T (cTNT) gene contains a single 30-nucleotide alternative exon that is included in embryonic striated muscle and skipped in the adult. Transient-transfection analysis of cTNT minigenes in muscle and fibroblast cell cultures previously identified four muscle-specific splicing enhancers (MSEs) that promote exon inclusion specifically in embryonic striated muscle cultures. Three MSEs located in the intron downstream from the alternative exon were sufficient for muscle-specific exon inclusion. In the present study, the boundaries of these MSEs were defined by scanning mutagenesis, allowing analysis of individual elements in gain-of-function experiments. Concatamers of MSE2 were necessary and sufficient to promote muscle-specific inclusion of a heterologous exon, indicating that it is a target for muscle-specific regulation. Sequences present in MSE2 are also found in MSE4, suggesting that these two MSEs act in a similar manner. MSE3 appears to be different from MSE2 and MSE4 yet is able to functionally replace both of these elements, demonstrating functional redundancy of elements that are likely to bind different factors. MSE2 and MSE4 each contain a novel sequence motif that is found adjacent to a number of alternative exons that undergo regulated splicing in striated muscle, suggesting a common role for this element in muscle-specific regulation.

Abstract:
Both glycemic control and handgrip strength affect microvascular function. Multiscale entropy (MSE) of photoplethysmographic (PPG) pulse amplitudes may differ by diabetes status and hand activity. Of a middle-to-old aged and right-handed cohort without clinical cardiovascular disease, we controlled age, sex, and weight to select the unaffected (no type 2 diabetes,n=36),the well-controlled diabetes (HbA1c < 8%,n=22), and the poorly controlled diabetes (HbA1c ≥ 8%,n=22) groups. MSEs were calculated from consecutive 1,500 PPG pulse amplitudes of bilateral index fingertips. Thesmall-, medium-,and large-scale MSEs were defined as the average of scale 1 (MSE1), scales 2–4 (MSE2–4), and scales 5–10 (MSE5–10), respectively. Intra- and intergroups were compared by one- and two-samplet-tests, respectively. The dominant handMSE5–10was lower in the poorly controlled diabetes group than the well-controlled diabetes and the unaffected (1.28 versus 1.52 and 1.56,p=0.019and 0.001, resp.) groups, whereas the nondominant handMSE5–10was lower in the well- and poorly controlled diabetes groups than the unaffected group (1.35 and 1.29 versus 1.58,p=0.008and 0.005, resp.). TheMSE1of dominant hand was higher than that of nondominant hand in the well-controlled diabetes (1.35 versus 1.10,p=0.048). In conclusion, diabetes status and hand dominance may affect the MSE of PPG pulse amplitudes.

Abstract:
The aims to determine steps to increase the labor force absorption of the Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) sector. This research using the structural equation model partial least square (SEM-PLS) method with cross-section secondary data within provinces (34 provinces) from the 2016 Economic Census (2017 census). The analysis results showed that the labor force absorption of MSEs in Indonesia was directly and positively affected by the number of MSEs and the income of MSEs. The number of MSEs in Indonesia was positively affected by the education level of MSEs owners. Meanwhile, the income of MSEs was positively affected by the use of the internet (digital technology) of MSEs. The education level of MSE owners was the only factor that had an indirect positive effect on the labor force absorption of MSEs. Increasing the labor force absorption of MSEs in Indonesia can be promoted by strengthening the entrepreneurship curriculum to foster an entrepreneurial spirit in students, especially at the higher education level, to grow the startup businesses. In addition, digital marketing partnerships with various e-commerce platforms providing marketplaces and online courier service platforms to increase MSEs income are encouraged. Abstract:
Cassava is the most processed staple food crops in Indonesia. Processed cassava micro and small enterprises (MSEs) are responsible for most cassava value-adding process. The major obstacle to the growth of MSEs is financing—a problem of the limited source of fund. Despite the presence of government financing support to MSEs, the number of processed cassava MSEs that have involved financing is still low. This study aimed to analyze the financing impact on the performance of processed cassava MSEs and to identify which factors influence the performance of processed cassava MSEs. Cross-sectional data of the MSEs Survey conducted in 2015 by Badan Pusat Statistik and analysis tool Multiple Linear Regression was used to answer the research objectives. Results showed that financing had a positive and significant impact on processed cassava MSEs’ sales revenue, but did not have any impact on their assets. Factors that significantly affected the performance of processed cassava MSEs were working hours per day, input value, training, products marketed in town, and business belongs in chips industry.

Abstract:
MSEs contribute much to the Indonesian economy and play a crucial role in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Unfortunately, MSEs still have limited access to finance. Financing access (SDGs’ issue), support from the government (environmental aspect), and entrepreneurial traits (inside the MSEs) are central for MSEs’ sustainability. This research investigates the role of a business environment built by the government to ease financial constraints and support self-efficacy in MSEs’ sustainable growth. This research applies the Structural Equation Model method to 750 respondents. Initially the direct factors are estimated and then a moderating factor is added. The results find that financial constraints MSEs’ experience limits the their sustainability, whereas self-efficacy enhances it. Although MSEs possess strong entrepreneurial characteristics as the basis for their growth, financing access remains a burden. The research confirms that the business environment created by the government is an effective strategy to facilitate MSEs’ sustainability. However, MSEs’ sustainability cannot be improved merely by government schemes but must be supported by the financial and banking sectors.

Abstract:
This study aims to examine the impacts of ownership and innovation on the sustainable development of micro and small enterprises (MSEs). Using the dataset from the 2015 China Micro and Small Enterprise Survey, this study divides the ownership of MSEs into state ownership, collective ownership, private ownership, and foreign ownership. In this study, the sustainable development of MSEs is measured by four sets of variables, sustainable operation, sustainable profitability from operations, sustainable profit input, and sustainable production or operation input. The Result suggests negative associations between the ownership of state-owned enterprises as well as collective-owned enterprises and MSEs’ sustainable development. Furthermore, public ownership also negatively contributes to MSEs’ sustainable development. Concerning the ownership of non-public-owned enterprises, while private ownership enables MSEs to develop sustainably, foreign ownership is not conducive to MSEs’ sustainable development. Besides, the result also indicates that innovation positively contributes to the sustainable development of MSEs. Moreover, this study offers implications for policymakers to take measures in promoting reform of mixed ownership as well as innovation to enhance MSEs’ sustainable development.

Abstract:
This study was conducted with the objective of analyzing the association of owner related and external factors with growth of MSEs operating in the manufacturing sector. Primary data were collected from 218 randomly selected owner/operator of manufacturing MSEs and coordinators of MSEs by using structured questionnaire and interview, respectively. Chi-square test was employed to analyze the owner related/internal factors, and external factors with growth of manufacturing MSEs. The statistical test revealed that gender, initial investment size, modern machinery, training, infrastructure and location have statistically significant association with growth of manufacturing MSEs; whereas age, education level, work premises and market linkage/ access are found to have statistically insignificant association with growth of MSEs operating in the manufacturing sector, though they make difference on the MSEs growth level. Therefore, to improve the growth of manufacturing MSEs, MSEs development office in collaboration with the municipality, among others, should consider the statistically significant factors and focus on the MSEs’ challenges which are stated by the owners of the business (own working premise and market access/linkage) and take corrective actions. Finally, further research on similar area is suggested by considering factors that need solution such as previous experience of operator in the sector, firm age and access to credit; besides similar study on remaining MSEs sector and comparative study may be conducted even within the manufacturing sector as economic sub-sector (i.e., textile and garment, metal working workshop, furniture and wood working, manufacturing bricks etc.) in order to have a holistic understanding of about the determinants of manufacturing MSEs growth

Abstract:
Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) require the right Organizational Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure (OICTI) to provide them with the essential functionalities to support their business processes. In order to have the right OICTI, MSEs are expected to make huge investments in financial and human resources, to purchase, deploy and maintain Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs). Cloud Computing Services (CCS) avail OICTI, for a fraction of the resources required to own private ICT infrastructure. The purpose of this study was to assess the fit between the MSEs’ OICTI needs and the information processing capabilities of CCS and how this fit influences CCS adoption in the Kenyan MSEs. The research was quantitative in nature, in which, a theory-based model grounded on the task technology fit, organization information processing and technology-organization-environment theories, was developed and validated. Study findings suggest strong correlations between MSEs’ tasks and CCS and between MSEs’ information processing needs and CCS information processing capabilities. Other factors identified as influencing CCS procurement are affordability and the relationship between the CCS providers and the MSEs. The study contributes to the academic literature on technology adoption in MSEs by showing that there exists a multidimensional fit between CCS and MSEs’ OICTI requirements.

Abstract:
The business sustainability of micro and small manufacturing enterprises (M-MSEs) are substantial to drive productivity and employment rate in many developing countries. However, due to various limitations, these enterprises are struggling to develop themselves into larger enterprises. For this reason, the government of Indonesia is enthused to provide technical and managerial supports for these M-MSEs. This study aims to provide an objective taxonomy of Indonesian M-MSEs as a guidance for the authorities to deliver the appropriate supports. The taxonomy was developed based on the survey to 735 M-MSEs in the Yogyakarta area. By using cluster analysis, we found that the M-MSEs can be classified into four distinct groups. Each group has its development strategies, ranging from adopting lean philosophy to instituting relationship marketing. This taxonomy provides useful directions for the authorities to support the development of M-MSEs in Yogyakarta and also serves as part of a broader effort to construct M-MSEs taxonomy in Indonesia.

Abstract:
MSEs have an important contribution to economic growth and employment creation in Ethiopia. However, due to different bottlenecks that hinder the growth, MSEs found in these three towns were not grown as it was expected. Therefore, this study aimed at identifying the major determinants of MSEs growth in West Shoa Zone, Oromia region, Ethiopia. In the study, both qualitative and quantitative research methods were used. Primary data was obtained using questionnaires. Stratified sampling was used to select proportional number of samples from the study area. The study used Chi-square and logistic regression to measure the association and determine growth probability of MSEs, respectively. The result of the study revealed, Entrepreneurial competency, managerial skills, market access, innovation, high initial investment size, access to finance and manufacturing sector variables were identified as a major determinant of growth of the MSEs in the study area. MSEs Owner/manager characteristics such as gender and age were found not to have an influence on the growth of the enterprises as the descriptive result showed. The probability of growth of MSEs were positively influenced by entrepreneurship competency, management skill, market access, initial investment size, and sector in manufacturing; however, getting access to finance and engaging in innovation activity have negative impact on the growth probability of MSEs based on the binary logit model result. The variables included in the model explain about 73.38% of the influences on the MSEs Growth so as, the model is fit. The study recommends that proper understanding of these factors constitutes an essential starting point and important for the Owner/manager of MSEs, government and non-governmental organizations to formulate policies and strategies in order to reduce unemployment, poverty and income inequality thereby promote MSEs and their growth in the country and particularly in West Shoa Zone.

Abstract:
Micro and small businesses (MSEs) create jobs at a low cost and assist society's progress toward wealth and growth. The aim of the study is to examine major factors that determine the growth of MSEs in the Siltie Zone, in southern Ethiopia. Out of the total 2,244 MSEs units, 488 respondents were sampled for the study using stratified and simple random sampling techniques. Descriptive statistical tools and a binary logit model are applied. Employment was employed as a growth indicator in the study. The findings of the study showed that out of the total sample, 49% of MSEs were growing and 51% of MSEs were not growing in terms of employment. The results showed that individuals and their relatives are the main source of finance for the majority of MSEs for two major reasons. The first and the most important reasons are due to the religion factor. A majority of the respondents replied that access to credit is forbidden to Muslim followers. The second reason is unwillingness to access credit; they fear the high interest rate of debt, the complexity of the procedure, and the lack of collateral. In addition to that access to infrastructure, access to finance and government policy are the major factor affecting MSEs engaged in construction sector. The major independent variables affecting growth of MSEs engaged in manufacturing sector are access to infrastructure, working premises, government policy and market linkage. Access to finance, market linkage and business management capacity are the determinant factor hindering the growth of MSEs operating trade sector. Access to infrastructure, market place and government policy were the determinant factor affecting the growth of MSEs operating service sector. Access to working premises, market linkage, government policy and owner motivation are affecting the growth of MSEs operating urban agriculture sector. Hence, government organizations concerned with the promotion and development of MSEs needs to work with the factors in each sector for economic growth.

Abstract:
Abstract The article presents a formal analysis of the xiang……yiyang scalar equative construction in Mandarin Chinese (MSEs). In the standard degree-based approach, scalar equatives are widely assumed to express an asymmetrical linear ordering between two degree-denoting descriptions such that the degree to which the comparee possesses is at least as great as the degree to which the standard possesses. However, this standard analysis would fall short of MSEs, which display a cluster of properties that are unexpected on the standard account: (i) MSEs disallow differentials; (ii) MSEs cannot take measure phrases as the standard; (iii) MSEs in general do not license NPIs in the standard phrases, and (iv) MSEs disallow factor phrases that express multiplication of numerical values. We propose that unlike scalar equatives in English (ESEs), where the comparison of equality is based on asymmetrical linear ordering of the degrees as points, MSEs recur to degrees as kinds, and consequently, the comparison of equality in the latter is based on instantiation of the degree-kinds, namely, equality of properties. The commonalities and differences between MSEs and ESEs suggest that, despite the fact that degrees and properties are semantic objects of distinct types, the underlying connection between them runs deep and fundamental.

Abstract:
In this study the authors tried to identify mediating role of innovation and moderating role of size of enterprise in the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and performance of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs). The researchers also investigated the effect that vary from enterprise size that basically means micro and small enterprises. For the purpose of this study data was collected from 384 MSE's operating in Punjab province. Initially the data was analyzed using SPSS 22 and later on for the development of structure equation modeling Smart PLS-3 was used. Only two aspects of entrepreneurial orientation have been analyzed; first one is risk taking and second one is pro-activeness, third most common aspect innovation has been taken as mediating variable as an enterprise cannot be innovative if it has not the capacity of risk taking and pro-activeness. These both aspects are attached to performance and also deals with innovation. The major contribution of the study is to identify any moderating effect of size of the enterprise over the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation, innovation and performance of MSEs. These elements basically show the contribution that is made by the innovation and performance of the MSE's. The objectives of the study were achieved, and it was found that there is no difference between performance of MSEs on the basis of entrepreneurial orientation and innovation. It is proved that the size of the enterprise is not the factor. The linkages found are affected by size of the enterprises.

Abstract:
Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) have an important role to increase economic growth. So, one of the efforts to improve the quality of MSEs is halal certification. Indonesia as a country with the moeslem majority, halal issue is crucial especially for products. With the halal certification, MSEs in Indonesia have competitive advantages in the international markets. Therefore, the community empowerment program aims to increase sales of MSEs products with the socialization activities and technical guide about the halal certification in Jabung District. There are several steps to do community empowerment, (i) identification through distributing questionnaires, (ii) socialization and guide the participants with the discussion and evaluation methods. The result in this identification found that most of the MSE sell food and beverages, but most of them did not have a halal certification on the products. Thus, the awareness of the MSEs about the halal certification increases because of the community empowerment program. This result can be seen from the management process in MSEs.

Abstract:
Access to credit has been consistently cited as a major constraint to the growth of micro and small-scale enterprises. Research has shown that enterprises that are not able to access credit from banks often rely on non-bank sources. It is based on this that the study set out to examine the accessibility of MSEs to non-bank credit and how non-bank credit affects their growth. In order to achieve the set objectives, 96 MSEs of five non-bank financial institutions were sampled for the study. Questionnaires were used to collect data from both the non-bank financial instutions and the MSEs. Data from the study were mainly analysed using the Chi-Square Test of Independence and log linear resgression analysis. Findings show that MSEs’ accessibility to non-bank credit was affected by inadequate information about credit availability, high interest rates and cumbersome procedure for credit acquisition. Most of the non-bank credit advanced to MSEs were inadequate and were often disbursed at wrong times. Credit received by MSEs mainly went to increasing working capital. This was attributed to the high rate of inflation that forces MSEs to demand credit for re-capitalisation. Firms that accessed larger amount of credit experienced increases in profits. Based on the findings the study recommends to non-bank financial institutions to make the procedures for credit acquisition less cumbersome, provide information about credit availability and to grant adequate and timely loans to MSEs. In order to access credit in time, MSEs are to put in timely application of credit as this will give non-bank credit institution amply time to process the application.

Abstract:
We observed mutual smiling episodes (MSEs) during therapist-couple triadic interaction as a key element of affective exchanges that serve to regulate the therapeutic relationship. Based on a functional perspective, we developed a new rating scale, the MSE Coding System (MSE-CS) that allows us to distinguish between four different MSEs, which correspond to four social functions: supporting mutual binding, sharing miseries, repairing, and confronting. MSEs were analyzed in a sample of eight therapist-couple triads. Therapeutic alliance and marital adjustment were also measured. The instrument (MSE-CS) demonstrated satisfactory inter-rater reliability, and initial indications of validity are promising. Results showed that number of MSEs was positively correlated with triadic therapeutic alliance. Types of MSEs were also distributed differently depending on the level of triadic therapeutic alliance.

Abstract:
Increasing competition and regulatory changes place micro-sized enterprises (MSEs) in the agri-food sector under strong competitive pressure. Smallness may be a substantial barrier to success. Previous research suggests that networks can be used strategically to combat these constraints. However, there is a lack of understanding of the extent to which this finding may be applicable to MSEs and the local agri-food sector. Based on eight in-depth interviews of agri-food MSEs, it is concluded that MSEs apply networks to strengthen their competitive advantage – for example, by forming stronger customer relationships. The MSEs are using their networks to combat their size-related disadvantages, but not by growing; rather, the networks enable them to remain small and independent while further strengthening their position as small producers.

Abstract:
There has been a common picture in economic development that micro and small enterprises (MSEs) tend to conglomerate in various clusters for the sake of gaining location advantages. These MSEs then create inter-firm linkages and business strategies as the two play an important role in their performance. By taking selected manufacturing MSEs that operate in various small industrial clusters in East Java, Indonesia, this research examined the relationships between the inter-firm linkages and business strategies applied simultaneously by MSEs and their impacts on the firm’s performance. Viewed from the perspective of a co-opetition strategy, the results of this study revealed that some types of inter-firm linkages and business strategies matter for the MSEs’ performance. However, within small industrial clusters, inter-firm linkages seem to be less effective compared to business strategies in affecting a firm’s performance.

Studies were conducted to determine the effects of intercostal muscle spindle endings (MSEs) and tendon organs (TOs) on medullary inspiratory activity in decerebrate and allobarbital-anesthetized cats. Impeded muscle contractions, elicited by electrical stimulation of the peripheral cut end of the T6 ventral root, were used to stimulate external and internal intercostal TOs without MSEs. Impeded contractions of either the external or internal intercostal muscles reduced phrenic and medullary inspiratory neuronal activities. Vibration was used to selectively stimulate external or internal intercostal MSEs (90 and 40 micron amplitude, respectively). Selective stimulation of either external or internal intercostal MSEs did not change phrenic or medullary inspiratory neuronal activities. It is concluded that both external and internal intercostal TOs have a generalized inhibitory effect on medullary inspiratory activity and intercostal MSEs have no effect on medullary inspiratory activity.

Leveraging on the provisions of the internet enhances the productivity of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), increases industrial growth and their contributions to national prosperity. Every cyber-attack against their businesses should be reported to the requisite incident response body through the appropriate channels for quick recovery from attack. This research examines how the MSEs in Nigeria report cybersecurity incidents. This study surveyed 100 MSEs. The outcome of the research shows that 72% of the MSEs is unaware of the channel of reporting cyber incidents and does not report cyber incidents. Participants totaling 90% believe that the Sectoral Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) could improve on reporting of cybersecurity incidents through sensitisation. Amongst others, we recommended the Sectoral CSIRTs were to develop an Incident Report and Response Plan (IRRP) for managing cybersecurity incidents in MSEs.

Abstract:
The micro and small enterprises (MSEs) performance inequality between districts/cities is a must-be-solved problem since inequality is one of the issues concerned in the Sustainable Development Goals. Much previous research on the role of Village-Owned Enterprises (Badan Usaha Milik Desa—BUMDes) performance revealed that BUMDes had a positive but not significant role. The reason is that BUMDes had not played an optimal role. This study aimed at building a model for improving the performance of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) through optimizing the role of BUMDes. The data collected was primary data consisting of the causes of low MSEs performance, challenges, and opportunities for optimizing the role of BUMDes in improving MSE performance. Data were collected through a structured interview, in-depth interview, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) methods. The results revealed that the model for improving MSEs' performance through optimizing the role of BUMDes was named the Dream House Model. This model requires that MSEs set a dream of experiencing a performance improvement that was set within three years. The main pillar in achieving this dream was that MSEs should revitalize and collaborate.

Abstract Building on prior research related to (1) impact of information communication technology (ICT) and (2) operational risk management (ORM) in the context of medium and small enterprises (MSEs), the focus of this study was to investigate the relationship between (1) ICT operational risk management (ORM) and (2) performances of MSEs. To achieve the focus, the research investigated evaluating models for understanding the value of ICT ORM in MSEs. Multiple regression, Repeated-Measures Analysis of Variance (RM-ANOVA) and Repeated-Measures Multivariate Analysis of Variance (RM-MANOVA) were performed. The findings of the distribution revealed that only one variable made a significant percentage contribution to the level of ICT operation in MSEs, the Payback method (β = 0.410, p < .000). It may thus be inferred that the Payback method is the prominent variable, explaining the variation in level of evaluation models affecting ICT adoption within MSEs. Conclusively, in answering the two questions (1) degree of variability explained and (2) predictors, the results revealed that the variable contributed approximately 88.4% of the variations in evaluation models affecting ICT adoption within MSEs. The analysis of variance also revealed that the regression coefficients were real and did not occur by chance

Abstract:
ABSTRACT A key transition in meiosis is the exit from prophase and entry into the nuclear divisions, which in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae depends upon induction of the middle sporulation genes. Ndt80 is the primary transcriptional activator of the middle sporulation genes and binds to a DNA sequence element termed the middle sporulation element (MSE). Sum1 is a transcriptional repressor that binds to MSEs and represses middle sporulation genes during mitosis and early sporulation. We demonstrate that Sum1 and Ndt80 have overlapping yet distinct sequence requirements for binding to and acting at variant MSEs. Whole-genome expression analysis identified a subset of middle sporulation genes that was derepressed in a sum1 mutant. A comparison of the MSEs in the Sum1-repressible promoters and MSEs from other middle sporulation genes revealed that there are distinct classes of MSEs. We show that Sum1 and Ndt80 compete for binding to MSEs and that small changes in the sequence of an MSE can yield large differences in which protein is bound. Our results provide a mechanism for differentially regulating the expression of middle sporulation genes through the competition between the Sum1 repressor and the Ndt80 activator.

Abstract:
Micro and small enterprises (MSEs) are important to the local economy and are the most crucial source of employment in Thailand. Using the three-round survey data, we assess the impact of COVID-19 on the survival probability of MSEs in the tourism and manufacturing sectors. Enterprise characteristics such as owner characteristics, employment and business strategies are examined as potential factors to mitigate or stimulate business failures. The Cox proportional hazards model and Kaplan–Meier estimator are employed. Our findings reveal that the survival probability paths from the three rounds of survey show a gradual decrease of survival probability from the first week of interview and approximately 50% of MSEs could not survive longer than 52 weeks during the COVID-19 pandemic. We also find that the survival of MSEs mainly depends on location, number of employees, and business model adjustment, namely operation with social distancing and online marketing. Particularly, retaining employees and not reducing the working hours are one of the key factors increasing the survivability of MSEs. However, the longer length of the crisis reduces the contribution of these key factors. The longer the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the lower the chance of MSEs survivability.

Abstract:
The economic impact of a public emergency, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, is often reduced by micro and small businesses (MSEs) undertaking sustainability-oriented innovation for public emergencies (SOIPE), which includes production and service innovation, information innovation, marketing innovation, and labor innovation. The originality of this study lies in its prediction and evaluation of COVID-19′s challenges and SOIPE’s requirements to have a keen observation and discovery ability. In this paper, we combined nominal group technique, fuzzy analytical hierarchy process, least squares, and a case study to investigate governance, economic, financial, sociocultural, and environmental sustainability and demonstrate the MSEs’ sustainability evaluation model. In a qualitative study and literature review, MSEs were found to use SOIPE in a variety of ways. Some studies focused on marketing innovation, while others were hampered by their limited understanding. From both a theoretical and empirical perspective, this study suggests that MSEs should identify their optimal SOIPE based on the impact and volatility of a public emergency. In addition, this study presents an assessment of the impact and environmental volatility of a public emergency, as well as MSEs’ SOIPE, which is more helpful for enterprises. Finally, this study creatively introduces the SOIPE of MSEs, which has important policy ramifications.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to elaborate on the development of micro and small enterprises (MSEs) at the bottom of the economy, where most of them began as unbanked micro-ventures and may continue to be micro-enterprises even after being elevated to higher levels. This study contributes to the field of entrepreneurial finance by identifying the factors that influence the drivers and constraints of MSE upgrading. This paper employed models to show how unbanked MSEs transition to bankable ones, as well as to reveal the dynamics of MSEs’ transition to bankability during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study’s unit of analysis is MSEs, which initially have little or no access to bank loans. This study employs system dynamics (SD) modeling to investigate and manage the multifaceted response system of MSEs’ growth toward bankability in the face of a coronavirus pandemic in Indonesia. This study also simulates a coronavirus pandemic outbreak to fine-tune MSEs’ progress toward bankability. The dynamic models in this study reveal a number of variables that are critical in accelerating the bankability status of MSE from un-bankable to bankable, namely entrepreneurial MSE time to bankability, channel business, and MSE NPL. Policymakers can create high leverage policies for MSE bankability progression by changing these values.

Abstract:
This research investigated the impact of microfinance on Micro and Small Enterprise (MSE) in Ogun State, Nigeria. There were two research problems. First, it was whether microfinance bank (financial intermediation services) assists MSEs in Ogun State, Nigeria. Second, it was whether microfinance banks assist MSEs in improving the volume of trade they engaged in Ogun State, Nigeria. The purposive and stratified sampling method was used. The survey obtained 408 respondents in MSEs in Ogun State. The research problems were tested with simple regression analysis. Findings from the first problem show that there is a negative relationship between intermediary financial services (credit disbursement) and MSEs. The second finding also shows there is a positive relationship between microcredit and business expansion. The research concludes that businesses that access microcredit have grown averagely regarding business expansion. Therefore, it is recommended that microfinance banks should increase the size of loan and interest charged to MSEs, so they have enough funds to finance their operations. The researchers further recommend that government should review the activities of microfinance institutions.

The result of the regression analysis indicated that democratic leadership style showed a positive and significant influence on MSEs’ performance since beta coefficient value of this style is 0.371 with significant value of (p=0.000), whereas the autocratic and laissez-fair leadership styles showed a significant and negative influence on MSEs’ performance since coefficient value of these styles are -0.306,-0.143 with significant value of (p=0.000 and 0.045) respectively. Concerning socio-demographic variables, beta coefficient of education is = 0.323 with significant value (p= 0.000).Which shows high positive and significant influence on MSEs’ performance; age indicated negative influence on MSEs’ performance while beta coefficient value of gender is 0.126, with (p= 0.108), which indicated that gender difference didn’t show a significant effect on performance of MSEs. The research recommended that, MSE leader’s need to encourage employee participation and involvement in decision making and problem solving in order to develop employees sense of ownership and belongingness through democratic leadership.

Abstract:
Introduction: One of the obstacles faced by MSEs to achieve independence in entrepreneurship is limited working capital. The government through Bank Indonesia has required banks and microfinance institutions to provide working capital to SMEs. However, there are obstacles in its distribution, namely the fulfillment of the requirements for submitting financing related to MSE financial information. There are still many MSEs that cannot provide accurate financial information because they do not carry out financial management properly, such as making financial reports. Meanwhile, fund providers, including Islamic microfinance institutions, require financial information to analyze the customer's ability to repay the financing. Purpose: Knowing how the financial management of MSEs and the obstacles faced in making financial reports, and how MSEs provide financial information to obtain working capital from Islamic Microfinance Institutions. Methodology: This research was conducted with a descriptive qualitative method. The object of this research is the financial reporting of MSEs that are needed by Islamic Microfinance Institutions in making decisions to accept or reject the application for financing by MSEs. The data used are primary and secondary data obtained through interviews, documentation, and observation. Findings: The majority of UMK KSPPS BMT Niten customers do not perform financial management, especially in preparing financial reports. Constraints were faced due to the lack of awareness of MSEs on the importance of financial management, especially in preparing financial reporting, lack of knowledge about financial management, especially in preparing financial reporting, and limited time. KSPPS BMT Niten obtains financial information of prospective UMK customers or financial information of existing UMK customers through direct interviews. Paper Type: Research Article

Abstract:
The development of the microfinance sub-sector in Kenya is seen as a favourable catalyst for increasing performance of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs). Despite the development, MSEs continue to suffer from high levels of financial exclusion and shortage of operating funds. This scenarios raise policy questions on whether participation in microfinance has effects on performance of MSEs. While past studies on this relationship have demonstrated that the effects are mixed, an understanding of the effects on participation of microfinance on different segments on MSEs - especially the youth and women owned businesses and age of businesses, is necessary in designing relevant policy changes in the MSE subsector. To address this, the study used the 2016 FinAccess Dataset and estimated these effects using the propensity score matching technique. This model was considered suitable since it accounted for potential endogeneity biases associated with self-selection into participation, unobserved entrepreneurial abilities and risk taking behaviour of MSEs. Apart from showing that participation in microfinance has positive effects on performance of MSEs, the study has demonstrated that there is presence of constraints limiting the impact of microfinance especially in firms owned by the youth and women. As such, there is need for policy and product designs to address these hindrances even as participation in microfinance is encouraged. Based on the results, it is recommended that government and microfinance providers should design policies and products that increase firm participation in microfinance. This may be through scaling up financial literacy programmes and encouraging acquisition of permits. Finally, policy should address obstacles that hinder the youth and women owned MSEs from benefiting from microfinance.

Abstract:
Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) segment has been recognized worldwide for its role in wealth generation, employment establishment, and poverty reduction. Nevertheless, there is an increasing inability of Small-Scale enterprises access to government support, which leads to failure to meet expected achievements as the engine for economic growth and development despite government encouragement in this direction. As a result, the aim of this research was to determine theiimpactiofigovernmentiinitiativesionitheiperformanceiofimicro and small businesses in Mombasa County, Kenya. In this study, the specific objectives were to determine how tax subsidies affected the performance of micro and small manufacturers in Mombasa County, Kenya. This study adopted agency theory. Descriptive research design was used in this study. The study primarily focused on micro and small businesses in the manufacturing sector in Mombasa County, Kenya, and since the target population was insufficient to draw a statistical sample, a census was used to establish an appropriate sample size based on the target population. Several open-ended questions and a modified Likert scale questionnaire were used. To refine the instrument, a feasibility study was conducted. Cronbach's alpha was used to assess the quality and reliability of the study. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS Version 25) for Windows was used to analyze data. The analyses were carried out with the help of frequency counts, percentages, means, standard deviations, regressions, and correlations, and the results were presented as graphs, charts, and tables. From the findings, the study concludes that the tax reforms and tax behaviours significantly affect tax compliance of the MSEs in Mombasa County. The study recommends that: continuous emphasis on creation of awareness and monitoring of the compliance of the MSEs. Review the tax laws and more enforcement of the MSEs tax laws. Kenya Revenue Authority should carry out more profiling of the MSEs and research more on the MSEs to understand the MSEs. Publicize prosecution non-compliance; provide incentives for compliance and opportunity to voluntarily disclose before the application of penalties. There is need for the government to enhance MSEs’ trust with the tax reforms for voluntary compliance.

Abstract:
In any developing country like India, Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) showed its best effort in improving the mass standard of living by ensuring employment generation. Thus the grass root people who otherwise might not get entered into the formal sector due to lack of technical skill and education could get their employment there easily. But the lack of technical know-how of the participants of MSEs may not allow them to have awareness of occupational hazards. This calls for a severe problem in Health and Safety related issues in MSEs for those individuals. The present study, therefore, takes its objectives to highlight on the maintenance of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) related issues in MSEs where the perceptions of the participants play an important role. To fulfil these objectives, the study takes its attempt to pursue a primary survey on 95 randomly selected participants out of 24 registered MSEs of select sectors of West Burdwan, an industrially developed district of West Bengal. The sectors are selected purposively based on their significant presence in West Burdwan. The data have been collected through questionnaire and non-parametric tests has been used for further assessment. It is found that creating cozy atmosphere, privacy, artificial lighting conditions, ventilation, facilities for rest and meals, and so on are the factors to be maintained under OH&S in MSEs. The responses of the participants are found as sector specific and socio-demographic characteristics specific. In this issue, while the young male members like ‘facilities for rest and meals’, the female members prefer ‘privacy’ as the factor to be maintained for OH&S in MSEs. Thus the paper in its policy implication exhibited the sector-wise and socio-demography wise preferences of the participants on OH&S related issues.

Abstract:
It is well-recognised that micro and small enterprises (MSEs) are acting as specialist and soul of economic growth in India as well as in the world. MSEs are lifeblood of most economies and play a dominant role in the economic development of a country. Research on micro and small business development has shown that the rate of failure in developing countries is higher than in the developed world (Arinaitwe, 2006). The past studies indicate that three out of five businesses fail within the first few months of operation. A study by Peacock (1987) found that the lack of accounting records have led to the failure of these enterprises. This research study investigated the impact of record keeping on the growth of MSEs in the Cachar district of Assam. The objectives of the study were to analyse the relationship between record keeping practice and the growth of MSEs in the study area and to identify the status of record keeping in MSEs in the study area. To achieve these objectives, a sample of 93 entrepreneurs were selected from the targeted population. Primary data were collected by means of structured questionnaire. For data analysis, the study used descriptive statistics, and ‘Pearson’ correlation was used to establish the relationship between the dependent and independent variables. The finding of the study shows that there is a significance positive strong relationship between record keeping practice and growth of the MSEs in the study area.

Abstract:
Financial non-governmental organizations (FNGOs) are regulated microfinance institutions that operate with a social welfare logic in the delivery of microcredit to the financially excluded in Ghana. The microcredit is aimed at supporting the financially excluded individuals to create sustainable micro and small enterprises (MSEs) for the generation of both skilled and unskilled employment. From the institutional theory perspective, this study aims at investigating the impact of microcredit provided by FNGOs on employment growth among MSEs in Ghana. The major contribution of this study is the fact that, there is a little study on FNGOs and their impact on employment growth in the Ghanaian context. Therefore, this is one of the few studies that highlights the role of FNGOs in promoting financial inclusion through the provision of microcredit for employment generation purposes. Through a multiple regression analysis, the study uses primary data collected from 506 MSEs in Ghana. The results show that microcredit which is flexible in repayment mode, accessible and adequate has a positive impact on employment generation among MSEs in Ghana. However, the current cost of microcredit in Ghana has a negative impact on employment growth among MSEs.
