Abstract:

Abstract:
Video stream encryption is the main method for the protection of intellectual property in modern digital rights management systems (DRM). Existing encryption methods ensure very high protection level of encrypted content, but at the same time are very resources demanding, making them hardly suitable for low processing power mobile end-user devices. This paper presents partial MPEG-2 transport stream encryption method, which is suitable for such low power user terminals. The experimental evaluation of proposed method show that encryption and decryption times, comparing with standard full encryption, are reduced about 7 times, making proposed method a good choice for low processing power decryption devices.

Abstract:

All digital-TV receivers that are existent on the market today include some sort of a multiplexer which filters the data, the sound and the picture from the digital stream. These de-multiplexers are rather complex and general. The purpose of this Master Thesis is to develop a de-multiplexer which would solely filter one specific type of information out of the data stream, in our case the name of the network.

The main task of this project contains a close study of MPEG2 and the transport streams in order to find a solution and create a static de-multiplexer. Another part of this project is to choose an adequate method for the control and data communication. We will study the bus protocols I2C and SPI.

Finally we will construct the entire circuit after having chosen the Development Environment, DE and considered all the different circuit designs suitable for our task as well as the working at a low production cost, which is of course an important factor and challenge. The first part of construction will be made in Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language, VHDL, code and once the program is tested and working we will implement it and create the circuit. We will run a test of the final circuit test by filtering a near satellite signal and the get the name of the aimed network.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to detect errors in Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) transport stream. DMB uses the MPEG-4 standard for encapsulating Packetized Elementary Stream (PES), and uses the MPEG-2 standard for assembling them in the form of transport stream packets. Recently many research works have been carried out about video stream error detection. They mostly do this by focusing on some decoding parameters related to frame. Processing complexity can be a disadvantage for the proposed methods. In this thesis, we investigated syntax error occurrences due to corruption in the header of the video transport stream. The main focus of the study is the video streams that cannot be decoded. The proposed model is implemented by filtering video and audio packets in order to find the errors. The filters investigate some sources that can affect the video stream playback. The output from this method determines the type, location and duration of the errors. The simplicity of the structure is one of advantages of this model. It can be implemented by three simple filters for detecting errors and a “calculation unit” for calculating the duration of an error. Fast processing is another benefit of the proposed model.

This PhD thesis presents a novel hardware reconfiguration methodology, which uses the digital TV broadcast signal for reconfiguring hardware modules in digital TV receivers. The proposed methodology allows hardware cores to be signaled, during the transport stream generation step, transmitted and then reassembled. At the receiver, the recovered cores are then used to reconfigure reprogrammable field programmable gate array (FPGA) devices, which are integrated into each receiver unit. Besides, content signaling allows receivers to choose between FPGA cores synthesized for different manufacturers, which enables receivers to select broadcast hardware cores related to the employed FPGA models. The results of the performed experiments, which were carried out during the development of this work, consist in a proof of concept and show the technical feasibility of this methodology, regarding reconfiguration of pre-synthesized hardware cores through the digital TV environment. Receiver manufacturers could benefit from this methodology for developing reconfigurable architectures, which would allow the incorporation of technological advances into receiver hardware and provide better control regarding product life cycle. As a result, future revisions of DTV standards could occur without the need for device replacement.

Abstract:
The use of streaming video is growing rapidly at the moment. A popular conceptis adaptive bitrate streaming, which is when a video gets encoded in severaldifferent bit rates. These videos are then split into small files and made availablevia the internet. When you want to play such a video, you first download afile that describes where the files are located and in what bitrates they are encodedin. The media player then begin downloading the files and play them. Ifthe physical conditions, such as the download speed or CPU load, changes duringplayback, the media player can easily change the quality of the video bystarting to downloading files of a different bit rate and avoid that the video lags. This report will take a closer look at four techniques in adaptive bitrate streaming. They examined techniques are HTTP Live Streaming, Dynamic AdaptiveStreaming over HTTP, HTTP Dynamic Streaming and Smooth Streaming andwhich protocols they use. The report also examines how Apple and FFmpeg hasimplemented HTTP Live Streaming with respect to how much data is needed toread a file before the video can begin to be played. The report shows that thereare no large differences between the four techniques. However, Dynamic AdaptiveStreaming over HTTP stood out a bit by being completely independent ofany audio or video protocols. The report also shows a shortcoming in the specificationof HTTP Live Streaming as it is not specified that the first completeframe of the video stream should be at the beginning of the file. In Apple's implementationits needed to read up to 30 KB of data before playback can bestarted while in FFmpeg's implementation its about 600 bytes.

Abstract:
In this thesis, the use of three different schemes are studied to overcome the loss of information when transferring MPEG video sequences through ATM networks. In the first scheme, the prioritization algorithm assigns different priorities to the video stream based on the different types of video frames. In the second scheme, the use of dummy cells to replace lost ATM cells is investigated in the ATM adaptation layer. For this second scheme, different patterns to be used for the dummy cells are investigated. In the third scheme, the data size of slices and the number of slices are controlled based on the different types of video frames and the order in a group of pictures. The experimental results show the effectiveness of these schemes to overcome the loss of information when transferring packetized video streams. Statistics of the signal to noise ratio (SNR) for different cell loss ratios (CLR) in each case are presented. Statistics gathered from the three types of schemes can be applied in several ways for network design and operation.

Abstract:
Content distribution packet networks can be used in video and audio transport for TV applications with reception in mobile terminals. These networks make signal transport more flexible. Nevertheless, they may add delay and jitter, damaging the synchronism of the information streams and, consequently, the media presentation. In this dissertation, a framework was proposed for synchronism test and evaluation. It was developed to study the influence of disturbances caused by data networks or remultiplexations in the synchronism of MPEG2 programs. The framework enables the control of QoS parameters of the distribution network used to transmit packets from a MPEG2 transport stream and allows the evaluation of the influence of these parameters in the synchronism of the streams. Furthermore, transport stream resynchronization mechanisms were implemented in the framework, minimizing the effects of these disturbances in the network. It was observed that the methods implemented reduce the effects of jitter in the network and resynchronize the transport stream transmitted, in a way that the jitter in the time reference samples (Program Clock Reference . PCR) of the stream returns to previous levels (without applying jitter in the network).

MPEG-2 is an international video coding standard for broadapplications such as video conferencing, digital broadcasting, and HDTV. It plays an important role in digital communication. For satellite communication, due to varying atmosphericcondition and rain attenuation, random or bursty errors may occurin the MPEG-2 transport stream. However, the MPEG-2 bitstream isvery vulnerable to errors. Hence we propose some means to combaterrors. The FEC system is implemented to protect the bitstreamand error concealment techniques are used to compensate the lostregions of a picture due to the errors which can not be correctedby the FEC system. The error concealment schemes of two-layersystems such as spatial scalable systems and SNR scalable systems are proposed. It is shown that the error concealment schemes giveoverall visual quality acceptable even under severe transmissionerror environments.

Digital TV has become the focus of the next generation entertainment andinformation service in the broadcast environment. Development of a testing tool is key to the digit TV product development. This thesis focuses on the development of MPEG-II transport stream generator that can be used to testthe digital TV decoding system. This generator is PC-based and is capable ofanalyzing the MPEG-II transport stream in retrieving program and also to verifythe stream before testing is conducted. Futhermore, the generator is capable ofstreaming MPEG data stored in a video server with correct timing. The developmentwork focuses on two aspects. First, the architecture of the PC-based stream generator is defined so the device driver can be devised;secondly, the MPEG streamanalyzer, developed previously is refined to provide necessary information for stream analysis. In order to enhance the testing capability of the tool, a jitterssimulation algorithm is developed such that the stream generator can deliver anMPEG transport stream to test the decoder''s capability in handling the MPEG packetdelay- variations. The development work has been realized with testing results shown. This paper also discusses the usefulness of the testing tool and also gives the future development.

ABSTRACT The current scenario of Transport stream Monitoring and Analyzing is such that we are doing the analysis of the Transport Stream at the output end i.e. the Streams are analyzed at the receiver end and then the Troubleshooting is done by manually doing the required change and therefore is not dynamic. In this project the work has been done to analyze the output Transport stream just after the multiplexer output, and make changes to the transport stream after analyzing the stream for a specific ETR 290, Priority 1 alarm . All this is done without manual interception. For the real-time environment , the generated stream after Satellite Transmission are received back via a Ku,C band antenna and then are analyzed.. In this project the real time environment is simulated in the Multiplexing code itself .The Analyzer monitors the Multiplexed stream for a specific ETR-290 alarm and will make necessary changes in the repetition frequency of the that specific PID packet. The specific ETR-290 alarm we have taken here is PAT_error. The entire process takes place within the same Block wherein we don’t have to Increase or Decrease the Frequency of reception of a PAT packet by manually inserting the time frame. Here the Analyzer itself measure the PAT packet frequency and itself makes the adjustment whether to increase or decrease the frequency of that PAT packet by looping back to the multiplexer which generate PAT Packet..

The thesis is dedicated to the study of an algorithm for MPEG-2 transport stream multiplexing in digital video broadcasting systems, which isa branch of network traffic improvement. The MPEG-2 transport stream characterizations for digital video broadcasting systems are presented. In the algorithm part I, we show that the channels can be loadedbalance. And in the part II, we show that we can use the delay buffer toprevent the channel overloading from dividing the transport stream peaks. Furthermore, a new delay stream evaluation criterion is proposed. Thehigh volume, low sensitive is popular to be delayed. Experimental results show that the new algorithm for transport stream multiplexing are potential for use.

According to the progress of request for TV quality, the standard of digital TV has been present. Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) Group defines DVB-S, which is a satellite transport digital TV standard. DVB-S uses MPEG-2 as compression and transport standards. Compressed video, audio, and other data information are inserted into fixed length MPEG-2 Transport Stream packets. Because the MPEG-2 video stream consists of I-Frames, P-Frames, and B-frames, which have different importance in the video stream, the packet lose of different frame may produce different decrease of video quality. We constructs a model that describes the relationship of packet lose and video quality, to discuss the difference between using general forward error correction and using weighted forward error correction. Moreover, we propose a method to find proper weighted values for maximizing video quality under the condition of limited extra bandwidth.

Abstract:
Networked Multimedia is the point at which computer, telecommunication and entertainment industries converge. With the deployment of gigabit and terabit routers in fast data networks and the increasing performance of personal computers, there is growing interest in providing network users with networked multimedia services. Digital video and audio services will more often be delivered over intranets, the Internet and other IP-related technologies. In contrast to research in the transport of MPEG-2 video over ATM, our project investigates the effects of network impairments at the IP layer. We have developed a real routed IP testbed network with a Continuous Media File Server, IP network performance measurement program, MPEG-2 video implementation and quality measurement program. One of the objectives of the project is to investigate the effects of network impairments, specifically IP packet loss and jitter under moderately to heavily loaded network conditions, on MPEG-2 video reconstruction. We studied MPEG-2 video stream transport errors, error propagation, error sources and the severity of the error effects on video quality. In consideration of the transport requirements of real-time MPEG-2 video, we examined network impairments and related them to our classification of MPEG-2 errors. Based on the IP network performance metrics derived from the stressed testbed network and the video quality obtained from the transported MPEG-2 streams, we examined quantitatively the empirical relationships between IP network performance and MPEG-2 video quality. We observed the behavior that digital video presented when transported in a lossy and bursty IP network. By quantifying the effects of IP packet loss on MPEG-2 video quality, our study resulted in four outcomes: • Established the experimental system and collected quantitative data sets to investigate the empirical relationships between MPEG-2 video quality and IP packet loss. • When MPEG-2 video is transported in IP packets, slice loss rather than picture loss is the dominant factor contributing to video artifacts within the range of fair quality video. • Spatial and temporal masking effects tend to reduce the visibility of artifacts introduced by packet losses. Low motion / low spatial activity MPEG--2 video clips are more susceptible to IP packet loss impairment than are high motion / high spatial activity clips. • PSNR, as a numerical comparison method, was found to linearly correlate with packet loss in the high, medium, and low activity test streams. The outcomes of the project provide useful information for variety of potential applications. For example, the quantitative and statistical results and their implications are very important in designing an effective and efficient Forward Error Correction.
