Full textThe alternative movement is an alliance of several groups which want to show in their way of living and in their acting that other forms of living and production than the ones prescribed by modern industrial societies are possible. This thesis shows what the nowadays alternative movement in the fgr and earlier alternative movements from the turn of the century till the end of the seventies have in common, but also in which points they differ from each other. The alternative movement presents experiments (or projects) as concrete solutions of economic and social crises and forms the ferment to enable the so-called "established" society to develop

Full textThis scientific object of this thesis is the French "independant" punk space : we are interesed in the social genesis of this style, in the dispositions to become, and to be, "punk", in the political and artistic ageing and its contemporary specifities of existence. By studying the social morphology of the avant-garde Anglo-Saxon and French punks, through the lens of international exanges of cultural and symbolic goods, it testifies, by using the "prosopography" analysis, how the ways of doing and the ways of being thought as "Do it yourself" are handed down and re-adjusted by the generations come. From beyond this point, this thesis explores successively the trajectories, the topography of the contemporary punk space, the body-learning and the incorporation of this taste that defines the punk corporal "hexes", in order to reveal, finally, in what way these careers are created, pratically, by the specific modalities of politico-artistic ageing

Full textIn the late seventies, the musical movements Hip Hop and Techno emerged as vehicles for artistic and cultural innovations. The musical characteristics of these movements have often been studied by researchers, neglecting a central element of the system of communication carried out by these movements: the body. The body takes front stage: transmitter and receiver, the body is mobilized as a strong cultural marker in Hip Hop and Techno movements, being a sign of identity and distinction. This over-investment of the body in both movements manifests itself in diametrically opposed techniques and practices in each of the cultural groups. This research thus seeks to focus on danced and not danced somatic practices, by questioning their implementation in the "driving cultures". This analysis of the raw corporeal material leads to anthropologic questioning, revealing logic isotopes underlying the somatic non-isomorphic practices. This investment of the body is linked to the questions of identity, and is in line with the dynamics of contestation of traditional social forms and models. Drawing upon interdisciplinary theories, the analysis of kinesic forms and their organization is conceptualized from a semiotic perspective. This work analyzes the corporeal practices as a language, the body being considered as a semiotic dimension of culture

Full textThis thesis is part of a conversation on alternative organizations, and underlines the potential of a feminist approach to understand these organizations. I offer to study a core process of feminist organizations :empowerment. The objective is both to explore how this sheds a new light on feminist and alternative organizing, and to rethink organizing from its margins. To do so, I have conducted a two-years feminist ethnography within a feminist collective. The ethnographic tale describes three dimensions of empowerment as it is practiced within the collective: conscientization, mobilization and social transformation. It entails a definition of empowerment as a collective, dissonant andprefigurative praxis, which performativelyconstructs the organization as feminist. I suggest to think of empowerment as an alternative organizing process, which incarnatesand politicizes an ontology of becoming fororganizations

Full textThese last years, we observe a multiplication of alternative initiatives that create“here” and “now” local solutions to citizen claims in the interstices of liberal democracies. This phenomenon challenges all the discourses that declare the end of militant commitment as well as the famous formula of Margaret Thatcher “There is no alternative.” Due to the blockage of the classical forms of activism, this type of experience is growing up all around the world, being particularly successful in the Northern Basque Country. This thesis aims to understand, by studying the case of the Northern Basque Country, the motivations of individuals for creating alternative organisations. The field research is based on a sociological intervention that was performed in three phases. Five groups of around ten leaders and founders of alternative organizations of the territory were created. These groups were regularly gathered, every two weeks, during three to five months, in meeting sessions of one to five hours. In addition, some supplementary in-depth interviews raise the field research near to a hundred hours of collect and a thousand pages of transcriptions. Supporting actors in the self-analysis of their own practices, based on their testimonies, allowed us to elaborate explanatory proposals. The study reached to model transversal logic of action despite the organizational, generational and geographical difference of participants. This sociology of practices in alternative activism particularly deals with commitment genesis, representations of activism forms, perception of the field of possibilities, experience of resort to building alternatives, and also explains the dynamics of the normalization that alternative organizations cause as they produce social movement

Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université Paris Cité, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020UNIP7209.
Full textThis dissertation analyzes an opposition movement that produces its action and its "sense" of action through antagonism and conflict. Particularly it aims to observe the "Bure phenomenon" from the actions and worldviews of the actors, starting from the members of "la commune de Bure" who oppose the construction of Cigéo, the Highly Radioactive Waste Underground Storing Project (Bure, France). The present study, which seeks to analyze representations and practices that feed both objectively and subjectively into the actions of individuals, conducted a qualitative survey based on participant observations and interviews. The challenge is to understand not only the actions of the actors through their reflexive and subjective activity, but also their observed "concrete" activity, focusing on the meaning they give to their actions and the elements that push them to mobilization. The fear to the landfill center in Bure and the perceived threat that it represents have driven individuals to rally around a common struggle. What distinguishes this resistance from other similar opposition movements is the progressive development of a shared knowledge, which has gradually extended to issues that do not only concern nuclear waste. All the actors feel a common unease, frustration and lack of recognition that trouble and encourage them to action. Their shared experience, struggle for recognition, will to power and need to manifest feelings forge the life of the members of "la commune de Bure": spaces of experience are shaped, in which "concrete" and "imagined" alternatives to the dominant forms of life and society emerge. It is in this way that representations and practices transform spaces of experience into counter-publics. Persistent mental structures, deep feelings and meaningful interactions become the motor of mobilization and the impulse towards a process of subjectivation that concerns the acting subjects. In addition, there is a will that unfolds, a will to overcome uneasiness and the determination to create an alternative future. This dissertation aims to analyze the "potentiel d'agir" of an exemplary case by means the Bure's movement, its capacity to create and organize a delimited public space through action able to bring together worldviews of resistance to the established order and new possibilities for change. The experience of conflict and the quest for recognition can make people reflect on the unease that affects society and the possible future alternatives

Full textThis thesis analyses how the production of space helps to create and sustain alternative organizations. In this study, space is seen as a source of power. In order to answer this question we conduct a single case study: the intermediary places in the French theatre sector. Two organizational models prevail in this sector: the lucrative private sector and the public non-profit one. Intermediary places tend to establish a third model neither private nor public: third sector organizations. We combine semi-structured interviews, observations and secondary data. We show alternative organizations produce different type of individual and collective spaces on multiple scales. Thanks to this combination, intermediary places become mobile and more resistant to dominant space reactions. They are most likely to sustain themselves

Full textWhereas the creation of ATTAC France is due to a small number of organizations (trade unions, associations, newspapers), its development essentially comes from the exponential growth of members (30 000 in two years). What is at stake is therefore the place and the function of local activists and groups in the movement's national strategies. By distinguishing two mechanisms in the process of decision (the agenda building and the command of the rules of decision), we demonstrate that the structure of decision in ATTAC changed in favor of local groups, even though it's always largely controled by the national directory. The transformation of the structure of decision is actually linked to a transformation of the structure of power relations. Referring to the figurational sociology of Norbert Elias, we incorporate in a single theoretical framework the notions of decisions, power, critic and social change

Poulain, Sebastien. Thesis, Bordeaux 3, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015BOR30020/document.
Full textIn this thesis, we wonder how countercultural movement found new places of expression through the increased accessibility of audiovisual, thanks to "free radio" fight. Specifically, we want to know why and how society and the French media have enabled the establishment of an alternative media like Radio Ici et Maintenant (RIM) and how this radio has found a viable business model to spread its ideology. We shall see that the existence and persistence of RIM is due to the combination of two factors: firstly the reduction in the cost of entry into the radio broadcasting through the development and struggle of "free radio" that gave birth to associative radios (with their specific legal and economic model) and also the decrease in the cost of entering the religious market with the development of the French New Age counterculture issue of the American counterculture, itself the result of religious thoughts Western alternatives (related to the esoteric, the mediumship) and Eastern religions (Hinduism and Buddhism). Thus, the specific legal and economic model of associative radios allowed to live and persist "radiolibriste" and New Age ideology within RIM. But add that this model would not have been possible if it had not been worn by volunteer facilitators, invited activists and active listeners which we analyze the sociological profile. The scientific interest of this subject is the fact that it is mainly to study RIM which is an old "free radio". She was one of the most important radio stations in the movement. It is the oldest Parisian private local radio station. Today, it is a community radio (category A). This category corresponds to a large number of radio stations (about 600), but these are little studied. Finally, this is a New Age radio and one of the only French audiovisual media New Age. Crossing history and sociology of religion, media, communication, politics, science, this thesis is based on a constant listening, on numerous interviews and informal discussions on the study of different archives (paper, audio, digital) and numerous ethnographic observations. We give in the first part scientific tools to analyze this phenomenon. We will then see in which historical, radio, economic, social, legal and political context RIM appeared and continues to exist today. Finally, we focus on the proposed radio model and the actors of this radio

Full textEcology is a critical current of thought towards industrialized societies, which spreads throughout the Western countries in the second half of the 20th century. As a social movement, Ecologists try to set the rules of a society more respectful of the environment and the living conditions ; as a political movement, they offer a new model for society. Between 1960 and 1990, France and Germany present similarities regarding a growing sensitivity towards the environemental issues in their populations and the progressive accession of ecology to the political stage. A more detailed analysis nevertheless reveals historical, economical, social, political and institutional as well as cultural and mental characteristics peculiar to each country underlining important differences in these fields and explaining the clichés about a romantic Germany concerned with the need to preserve the biosphere and a Cartesian France ignoring the environment

Full textFrom the origins of the political ecology to now days, many ecologists think they are involved in the process of political and social transformation of their social and scientific universes. But it exceeds national borders and also continental limits. We will study the specificity of the French political ecology and outlook it with the American political ecology and, then, we will incite on the role of radical actors to redefine a radical ecology less consensual that the institutionalized ecology. In the 21st century the social need for a political stream and an ecological science increases trough the multiplication of human and natural disasters and the rise of their visibility in medias. Radical ecology suggests answers to those new challenges. We could then draw the specificity of the French political ecology which is, at the same time, close to conventional political actors by accepting the rules of the political field, at its frontiers, and, finally in touch with political margins

Full textThe “occupation movement” of the ZAD of Notre-Dame-des-Landes fights since 2009 with the “citizen associations” and the “peasants in struggle” to preserve a humid hedgerow situated in the region of Britanny (France) against the building of an international airport. The social organization of the “Zone of Definitive Autonomy” is based on a radical critic of political representation which fosters a perspective of emancipation, a perspective of autonomy. This thesis in political sociology explores its effects on the formation of an alternative “être-en-commun” (“being-in-common”) through practices of socialization and justice, economical and cognitive exchanges, decision making processes and power relationships. This theoretical analysis of the materialization of “another possible” is based on an ethnographic fieldwork conducted between 2013 and 2014. Combining a pragmatic approach to the theory of forms mobilized by social network theories, this thesis adds a fragment to the deconstruction of the “governmental prejudice” the anarchist social science researches have undertaken. Through the study of a series of controversies which have been raised by the occupants during my fieldwork, I insist on the irreducibility of a set of tensions which shape a social life based on an important process of individual differentiation

Full textThis thesis examines the construction of a real feminist environmentalist utopia based on the experience of the agroecological feminist movement in Brazil. Focusing on the scientific and social stakes of such an object of study, a committed research posture is adopted to move towards an emancipatory social science. Gender sociology and the sociology of social movements are articulated with feminist decolonial thinking, eco-feminism, Latinamerican political ecology. A plural and innovative survey system is deployed. Online ethnography and interviews are concerned with the creation of a space for the feminist agroecological cause. The life stories and narratives of rural women's struggles in the Northeast, observations of political spaces such as the Marcha das Margaridas, as well as the study of rural women's writings (poems, songs), experiences and activist materials allow us to approach the empowerment process in its socio-environmental dimension. Based on "action-reflection-action" methods, the participatory film project Mulheres rurais em movimento, co-constructed with the MMTR-NE (Rural Working Women's Movement of Northeast), is part of the epistemological posture defended, in its methodological implementation but also presents the awareness processes and the ecological and feminist practices of activists. Based on the territory's arenas, social movements, institutions and agroecological and Internet organizations, this study documents three main axes. A project of territorial resistance/r-existence based on a political reformulation of peasant work based on agroecology, community and feminist networks. The articulated analysis of gender violence and violence on nature highlights the renewed links between patriarchy and coloniality and shows a feelingthinking politicization of women activists, based in particular on an intersectional policy and the enhancement of a feminism that makes emotions a political tool. Finally, the institutionalization of feminism is being used to build a common front that also works in organizations and institutions. Finally, our proposal for the characterization of socio-environmental empowerment tends to renew the frameworks of thought and action of work and environmental and feminist struggles

Full textThis thesis deals with the modelling of financial markets co-movements. After having mentioned the time characteristics of the correlation coefficient variations and the limit of this dependence measure, we suggest to use an alternative statistic tool as a measure of financial markets co-movements : the copula function. We apply this new methodology to three empirical applications. We first consider the international index stock markets and study the impact of dependence structure on the risk management. In a second chapter we apply our methodology to the hedge funds markets and analyse the mechanisms of diversification. Finally, the last chapter presents a study of the determinants of the dependence degree evolution and gives an behavioural explanation to the skewness which characterizes the dependence structure

Full textThis thesis is interested in studying the new landscape of financial markets in which hedge funds have taken an important place that may affect financial stability and particularly portfolio diversification benefits. During the last two decades, financial globalization has allowed interaction of international markets and an extension of the principle of risk diversification in several markets. This has resulted in increased volatility of funding sources and increased financial instability amplifying financial market trends. International financial integration is one of the major trends of the contemporary movement of globalization of economies. Its apprehension is useful for investors whose portfolio investment strategies are closely related to the degree of integration of financial markets. However, due to the rise of the interdependence of financial markets, reducing a priori the potential gains from diversification, new alternative investments offer new opportunities for investors. This research explores the dynamic relationship between the returns of domestic equity and bond markets for developed and emerging countries in order to approximate time variations in inter-stock–bond market integration and to identify the main economic and financial determinants. The analysis of financial integration leads us to question the structure of investors in the world. We note that the predominant development is the advent of the hedge fund industry. Thus, this thesis proposes to expose the basics of alternative investment and to explore empirically how the systematic risk exposures of hedge funds vary over time conditional on some exogenous variables that managers are assumed to use in changing their trading strategies. Given the dynamic structure of risk exposure of hedge funds, the thesis attempts to study the dynamic links between the global macro strategy and traditional financial assets. The results show on the one hand, that there is a significant time-varying conditional correlation between stock and bond indices over the sample period. In times of financial turmoil, the DCC down and even become negative for developed countries, confirming the phenomenon of flight to quality in the international financial markets. This variability is mainly due to the exchange rate volatility and economic uncertainty in the financial system. In the other hand, we have shown that (1) volatility, term spread and shocks in liquidity significantly impact on the time variation of hedge fund betas; (2) beta dynamics show that leverage levels and shocks in liquidity are the key factors underlying the dynamics of systematic risk. Finally, our results demonstrates the destabilizing forces of global macro especially on emerging markets and the existence of the short- and long-term relationships between global macro and financial assets for Canada, France and Germany, providing less diversification benefits

Full textA global transition towards sustainability is a pressing challenge in the current context of fast degradation of the biosphere and of rising socio-economic inequalities which generate multiple vulnerabilities. Qualitative and quantitative surveys have shown that sustainable principles and values appears to be emerging on a global scale. Various social movements have laid claim to such a transition. The No TAV movement in the lower part of the Susa valley in Italy is an example. Since the 1990’s, this area has been the scene of a territorial conflict pitting the local inhabitants against the Italian state on a 54km long railway tunnel project under the Alps, linking the Susa Valley to the French Maurienne Valley. By strongly rejecting this project and collective participation in numerous resistance movements, the Low-Valsusans have gradually become a territorialized community who’s members are linked by strong bonds of co-obligation to each other and seem to share a set of sustainable principles and values. In this thesis, we question the impact of this very peculiar context on the local small and medium entrepreneurs’ involvement into the sustainable development of their territory, trying to find out whether it influences their activities. We have conducted our investigation in a pragmatic style, paying attention to the actors’ self-reflexivity.Does the participation to a sustainable territorialized community favor the involvement of the entrepreneurs into a solidarity economy oriented towards a sustainable development? The first part of this thesis questions the relevance and the conditions necessary for the implementation of a sustainable development. We propose the notion of territorialized community, articulating the political principle of the common and the notion of territory. The second part deals with the characterization of the Low-Valsusan territorialized community. We question its spatial anchoring, its principles and values, as well as the trajectory through which it emerged. This community has crystallized through several decades of struggles. It is anchored in the lower part of the valley between the villages of Exilles and Avigliana and its members seem to share sustainable principles and values. Finally, the third part of this thesis characterizes a process of social innovation through which a solidarity involvement of the local entrepreneurs in favor of a sustainable development has emerged and spread in the lower Susa Valley

Full textOur work aims to know and understand the rol plays by the different organizations and peasant movements in transformations of both agriculture and central america society between 1975 and 1995, since the "green revolution " until the worldwide present setting of transformation of the agriculture. The approach looks put in evidence the stake of food security as a key point of convergence between the interest of impoverished peasantries of the region and the sustainable development of central american societies. The developed central hypothesis proposes that the depending capitalistic development having oriented the both investment and technological transfers toward the capitalistic sector of l'agriculture, did not permit to peasants producers to constitute themselves in an accumulation axis and to play a dynamic role in the development of societies of the region, knowing that the weight of the agriculture remains very important in this societies. Also the study analise the architecture of the agrarian conflict and the main actors involved in the evolution of the economics, politics and social situation of the region, by putting in evidence the main concentration of the land property, the excluding character of the developpment model and the unequal growing of agricultures of the region, as many factors that explains the agrarian origin of the crisis that will clear to Guatemala, el Salvador and the Nicaragaua, on scripts of civil war. The final part of work shows the new deals of the peasant's organization process and the potential and limits of their alternative proposals to the structural adjustement policies in central America, and adresses several scenarios in a shortcoming of studies of case based in the asocode commercialisation experience- in order to weigh options and possible outcomes for peasant production, food security and sustainable developmement in central America

CAPES

Full textThe tribology of the dry contacts subjected to relative displacements of low amplitude and the friction materials are themes which are regularly treated in the literature. However, the studies referring simultaneously of both are very rare. The purpose of this manuscript is to improve comprehension of the physical phenomena and the tribological behavior inherent to the dry contacts “shaft / bearing with thrust” subjected to a thermo-vibratory environment. The industrial mechanism on the origin of this study was analyzed in order to identify its principle and these operating conditions. A diagnosis on its losses of functionalities, the link between its disfonctionnements and the studied contact, and a morphological expertise of its guidance elements were performed. A new experimental test rig was designed and realized in order to reproduce the real contact conditions of the studied guidance elements (concept of “tribological triplet”). Its various elements and the steps followed to validate its functionalities are exposed. Thanks it, for the various studied material couples, significant experimental results on their wear (and its physical phenomena) and their capacity of velocity accommodation are obtained. The contribution of a 3D numerical model integrating a misalignment for a cylinder in cylinder contact was detailed and analyzed. A scientific synthesis discussing the influence of the size of graphites grains, the nature and the orientation of composites, but also the origin of the identified physical phenomena (the migration of the impregnated elements, the presence of rectangular forms in the contact zones) is carried out

Full textThis research follows on logically from a previous work, of which the originality lays in the methodology used, i. E. The Procrustes method. This method, which was initially designed to allow quantitative analyses of biological shapes using geometric morphometrics, was applied here to an investigation of the "dynamic shapes" created by the spatio-temporal displacements of the runner’s bone-joints during the locomotor cycles. These first studies, which used concepts and methods based on geometric morphometry, provide a new and objective quantitative approach revealing functional differences and similarities among locomotor patterns. In the framework of my doctoral dissertation, the endeavour was to compare behaviors adopted by 100-meter sprinters with different levels of expertise in order to identify possible differences in the way each of these groups manages a race and thus to determine the characteristics of performance in high level sprinting. This investigation, undertaken in close collaboration with the highest ranking French national coaches and athletes, drew on the multivariate exploratory methods and the explanatory predictive techniques to attempt predicting the performance using rhythmical and kinematic parameters collected during the stabilized phase of a 100-meters race. The purpose of this research is to design and validate tools and methods permitting a scientific evaluation of the runner’s motor efficiency. In concrete terms, this has involved the development of a "Memosport" software package allowing the comparison of the measurable and analytical objective data with the qualitative and subjective data supplied by the experts in the field

Full textThis work is the result of empirical research conducted on a French network for an alternativeeconomy named REAS and its defenders. The aim is to study the origins of its program usingthe history and backgrounds of its campaigners as a starting point. From 1990 to 1998, theREAS has tried to bring together various initiatives of solidarity-based economic systems inorder to push its political program to the forefront of the public debate. We have wondered whether this program and the militancy which characterizes it were butthe translation of a propensity for activism truly Christian in origin or whether it ratherstemmed from the coming together of various traditions of militancy.A reconstruction of the individual backgrounds of activists from the REAS was possiblethanks to field research, based on a close study of the archives and the periodical which thenetwork published but most importantly on about sixty interviews held with members of theREAS. The research has proven that each age group (under 35, aged 35 to 45 and over 45years old) was characterized by its own specific dynamics and form of militancy. The older members bring with them a leftwing Christian dimension which the intermediateage group politicizes while the younger members contribute to daily awareness and localintegration. The political program of REAS and its members’ militancy can therefore bedefined as an elective affinity bringing together three originally distinct groups. Therefore, ifthe influence and dynamics of each group may be felt, the program for REAS can only bedefined through their combination. Nevertheless, elective affinity theoretically only happensbetween two elements. The possibility of elective affinity happening between three elementsseems unprecedented and would deserve closer inspection

Full textThree days before the general elections of 2010 in the UK, the organisation called London Citizens brings together the leaders of the three main parties. Among the 2,200 people in the room, some come on stage and confront the candidates with their demands (on the minimum wage, immigrant rights, affordable housing and access to credit), while urging them to recognize and promote the role of "civil society" in the governance of London. At the forefront of this fight, London Citizens represents a very wide range of organizations - religious congregations, schools, trade unions and other associations - which collectively seek to make their voices heard by politicians, but also economic actors, upsetting the traditional rules of politics. Built on the model of broad-based community organizing initiated by Saul Alinsky in the 1940s in Chicago, London Citizens seeks to mobilize a large number of London communities and residents. Supervised by "organizers", the various members meet on a regular basis and conduct collective actions, big and small, on different issues. "Democratic" in many ways, the work of London Citizens is also ambiguous with regard to its conception of citizen empowerment and targeted social changes. In so doing, it promotes a pragmatic approach to citizenship and democracy

Full textIn 1976, punk took the United Kingdom by surprise, and for one brief moment, challenged some of the cultural and social assumptions of British society, shocking public opinion and causing an outbreak of moral panic in its wake. The Sex Pistols could sing about it, but for people living in Northern Ireland, “Anarchy in the UK” was more than just a song, it was what they experienced in their everyday lives. Yet, while the conflict raged on, and at a time when cross-community contact had become uncommon, a minority of the North’s youth turned to punk. These young Catholics and Protestants ignored their political and religious differences and met up in streets and record shops during the day, and at night crowded into the few bars and pubs that allowed punk bands to play. What specific features did Northern Ireland punk display? What impact did this popular culture phenomenon have on the practices of the young participants who took part in this scene and subculture in the midst of the “Troubles”? What mechanisms enabled punks to imagine and embody an “Alternative Ulster”? In order to find answers to these questions, we will provide an account of the emergence of the punk scene in Northern Ireland (1976-1983), analyse the ways in which its spaces were “practiced”, examine the importance of punk dress and, finally, explore the themes which appear in punk rock songs

The first part is a general description, which includes a description of Brag-bar’s phonology, stem alternations, verbal derivation, nominalization and TAME (tense-aspect-modality-evidentiality). The second part, based on the overall description, studies the orientation and associated motion systems from synchronic and diachronic perspectives. On the one hand, it provides a synchronic description of the two systems in Brag-bar, and uses these data to contribute to the typology of topographical deixis and associated motion. This work elucidates the semantic structure of the orientation system, by distinguishing the topographical uses of orientation markers from their metaphoric and lexicalized uses and by taking into account the gap with the geographic reality. On the other hand, it includes a historical comparative perspective, and proposes a reconstruction of the orientation system and a hypothesis on the process of grammaticalization of the associated motion prefixes in Proto-Situ, which has indirect impact on the historical study of topographical deixis and prefixal morphology in Sino-Tibetan

Full textThis thesis analyses the associative commitment of Planning Familial, a feminist and popular education movement in France, and UMAR, the União de Mulheres Alternativa e Resposta, a feminist organisation in Portugal. These two associations are defined as feminist associative imaginary, a central concept of the thesis, whose connections are marked by the controversies, activist strategies and tensions resulting from the activism and professionalisation processes. The research is based on a qualitative analytical approach through the exploitation of historical sources, ethnographic observations and a collection of activist narratives, through the production of around forty in depth interviews and around twenty court interviews with volunteers and employees. This research consists of three parts. Initially, the socio-historical analysis sheds light on the processes of construction of a feminist activist action, but also shows the gradual entry and consolidation of the processes of institutionalisation and professionalisation in the various associative contexts. The second part studies the activism dimensions of associative commitment, including the pathways of activism, the paradigms and feminist positions held by activists and associative groups, as well as their individual and collective representations. Thirdly, professional approaches and actions of a politicized nature are analysed in the two associations, with particular regard to sexuality and equality

Full textThanks to the NTIC, a new form of digital journalism has arisen, which favours public speech. Amateur journalists now find themselves at the heart of the news, as a source or as a witness. This phenomenon is observed everywhere in the world, but South Korea is thought to be the country where amateur journalists are the most involved. In this country, experiments in "citizen" journalism are linked to the logic of an alternative to mass media. The success of the website Ohmynews, considered as the forerunner of participative journalism, is due to the Koreans' desire to grasp the freedom of speech they have been deprived of until the end of the 80s’. Following this success, numerous pure players and countless participative platforms have appeared. This phenomenon has fostered the development of "amateur" journalism and triggered the end of an era of traditional media monopoly. Still one may asks whether, in the internet era, amateur journalism has the means to be a real voice for popular expression. This research shows that the practice of journalism by amateurs allows a new form of media expression, but at the same time produces a superabundance of private expression. In particular, portal sites generate advertising revenues and highlights entertainment news among the content brought by the users. Their domination over the market of online media is the most worrying factor not only for traditional media but also for the future of information as a whole. At the same time, we have observed, in the internet population, an evolution in the culture of political involvement. The net surfers, who are informed through various platforms, have actively taken part in the spaces of discussion available on most news information websites. These digital spaces have encouraged the emergence of a new scene of public debate which, have increased the means of mobilization of digital citizens. But in the end, it has provoked very severe measures of State control. In this context, it appears that amateur journalism is undermined due to the prevailing rules of marketing, and that the space for citizen speech is more and more reduced

Full textHis thesis offers a study of the emergence of counter-culture in the People’s Republic of China through the lens of political contestation, with the help of cultural productions and a fieldwork carried on in several Chinese cities from 2012 to 2015. Two counter-cultural communities have been studied in this thesis, the punks and the independent filmmakers. This choice allows us to reveal similar logics within these two communities about their relationship to politics and to the spaces they have been able to create in order to produce and release their works, in a State which still tightly controls cultural expression. Chinese counter-culture must first be put back into the context of the management, by the Communist Party, of all forms of cultural expression, from Qu Qiubai’s theories to Mao Zedong’s Talks about literature and art. Punks and independent filmmakers thus place themselves into the history of artists and intellectuals’ resistance against the control by Chinese authorities of the cultural field. They find new tools in order to express their disagreements, through the minor appropriation of available techniques. The thesis proposes to study this two forms of counter-culture through the effects they produce on the actors themselves, through the new forms of subjectivity they create, but also through the search of autonomous spaces, which embodies the struggle against the Chinese Communist Party’s monopoly of public space. The analysis will also address the counter-cultural expression as a kind of speech of truth (parrhesia), in a society where, according to Liu Xiaobo, “to refuse lies is precisely the most effective way to undermine tyranny”
