Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractThe spoon-billed sandpiper Calidris pygmaea, a migratory Arctic-breeding shorebird, is one of the rarest birds and its population has declined since the 1970s. We surveyed its most important known wintering area in the Upper Gulf of Mottama in Myanmar to estimate recent (2009–2016) changes in its numbers there. The total number of small shorebirds present in the Upper Gulf was counted and the proportion of them that were spoon-billed sandpipers was estimated from sample scans. These two quantities were multiplied together to give the estimated number of spoon-billed sandpipers in each of 4 years. Total numbers of combined small shorebird species tripled from 21,000 to 63,000 between 2009 and 2016, coincident with efforts to reduce hunting pressure on waterbirds. However, the proportion of small shorebirds that were spoon-billed sandpipers declined and their estimated absolute numbers fell by about half, from 244 to 112 individuals. It is probable that loss of intertidal habitat and shorebird hunting elsewhere on the migration route of the spoon-billed sandpipers wintering at Mottama is causing a continued decline, although this is occurring at a less rapid rate than that recorded from Arctic Russia before 2010. The number of spoon-billed sandpipers wintering on the Upper Gulf of Mottama remains the highest single-site total for this species from any known wintering site. Preventing resurgence of illegal shorebird hunting and ensuring long-term protection of the intertidal feeding habitats and roost sites in the Gulf are high priorities if extinction of this species is to be averted.

Abstract:
Prices of goods in Japan are relatively expensive. Meanwhile, to dispose of used or second hand goods is often difficult even people have to pay for it. The Philosophy of mottainai and osagari tradition are a solution for Japanese people to deal with, so these items are not wasteful. The aim of the study was to analyze Islamic values in the mottainai philosophy and osagari tradition in Japan. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques are with observation and indepth interviews of 3 Japanese and 5 Indonesian people living in Japan as research informants. Secondary data were from books, journals, and articles that are relevant to the research theme. The results of this study show that in the tradition of mottainai and osagari, there are Islamic values that benefit human life and protect the environment. Islamic values include preventing wasteful goods with the principles of 3R (Re-use, Reduce, and Recycle) and osagari by giving second hand goods to those who need them. The osagari tradition is a medium of communication, helping each other, and maintaining friendship. The tradition takes place across cultures, which is carried out not only by fellow Japanese, but also Japanese with non-Japanese and even among non-Japanese people living in Japan.

Abstract:
From January to April 2006, 37 specimens of Hemidactylus mabouia were collected in houses, in the municipality of Barbalha (7° 20' S and 39° 18' W), Ceará State, Northeast Brazil. Among the individuals captured, 17 were infected with pentastomids, totalling a prevalence of 45.9%, which did not differ between sexes. Host size did not influence the infection intensity. Two species of pentastomids were found: Raillietiella frenatus and R. mottae. The prevalence of R. frenatus (43.2%) was higher than R. mottae (2.7%), whereas the infection intensity of R. frenatus was comparatively lower (1.8 ± 1.4) than R. mottae (36 parasites in a single host). Overall mean intensity of infection was 3.8 ± 8.4 pentastomids. We found no pentastomid infecting juvenile geckos. The parameters of infection in this host population are in accordance to the findings of other studies, in which the high parasitism rate was associated to the feeding habits of geckos living in houses and buildings. Hemidactylus mabouia is a new host to R. mottae and the infection by R. frenatus is the first record of the occurrence this pentastomid species in Brazil.

Abstract:
The International Seminar on Islam and Green Technology, held on 16 November 2016 at IAIS Malaysia, suggested that a considerable gap exists between the ideals of Islamic teachings on environmental protection and the realities of the practices of Muslim individuals and communities. Many speakers therefore proposed that we should ‘change’ our consumption and production behaviours in accordance with the normative teachings of the Qur’an and hadith, which emphasise mankind’s accountability and responsibility towards maintaining balance and harmony in what Allah the Almighty has created. Here I would like to introduce the Japanese ethical concept of ‘mottainai’ in the hope that it can contribute to further discussions on the sustainability of our world.

Full text
Abstract:
This article concerns the sources of the quotation ubi defuit orbis, which Cyprian Norwid used as a motto to his poem “Spartakus.” The phrase has been identified as part of an inscription carved in stone by Jean-François Regnard, a French traveller and comedy writer, and his companions during their journey through Sápmi (Lapland). Most probably, thanks to Regnard’s Voyage de Laponie, Norwid’s epigram became well-known in European culture. It was quoted by Ignacy Krasicki in the treatise O rymotwórstwie i rymotwórcach, and by Victor Hugo in the novel Notre-Dame de Paris. It seems likely that Norwid drew this phrase from the latter. The article further discusses these sources and the significance of the motto ubi defuit orbis for the interpretation of Norwid’s poem.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract. The Ayeyawady delta is the last Asian megadelta whose evolution has remained essentially unexplored so far. Unlike most other deltas across the world, the Ayeyawady has not yet been affected by dam construction, providing a unique view on largely natural deltaic processes benefiting from abundant sediment loads affected by tectonics and monsoon hydroclimate. To alleviate the information gap and provide a baseline for future work, here we provide a first model for the Holocene development of this megadelta based on drill core sediments collected in 2016 and 2017, dated with radiocarbon and optically stimulated luminescence, together with a reevaluation of published maps, charts and scientific literature. Altogether, these data indicate that Ayeyawady is a mud-dominated delta with tidal and wave influences. The sediment-rich Ayeyawady River built meander belt alluvial ridges with avulsive characters. A more advanced coast in the western half of the delta (i.e., the Pathein lobe) was probably favored by the more western location of the early course of the river. Radiogenic isotopic fingerprinting of the sediment suggests that the Pathein lobe coast does not receive significant sediment from neighboring rivers. However, the eastern region of the delta (i.e., Yangon lobe) is offset inland and extends east into the mudflats of the Sittaung estuary. Wave-built beach ridge construction during the late Holocene, similar to several other deltas across the Indian monsoon domain, suggests a common climatic control on monsoonal delta morphodynamics through variability in discharge, changes in wave climate or both. Correlation of the delta morphological and stratigraphic architecture information on land with the shelf bathymetry, as well as its tectonic, sedimentary and hydrodynamic characteristics, provides insight on the peculiar growth style of the Ayeyawady delta. The offset between the western Pathein lobe and the eastern deltaic coast appears to be driven by tectonic–hydrodynamic feedbacks as the extensionally lowered shelf block of the Gulf of Mottama amplifies tidal currents relative to the western part of the shelf. This situation probably activates a perennial shear front between the two regions that acts as a leaky energy fence. Just as importantly, the strong currents in the Gulf of Mottama act as an offshore-directed tidal pump that helps build the deep mid-shelf Mottama clinoform with mixed sediments from the Ayeyawady, Sittaung and Thanlwin rivers. The highly energetic tidal, wind and wave regime of the northern Andaman Sea thus exports most sediment offshore despite the large load of the Ayeyawady River.

Descriptive study was conducted at Shegaw Motta General Hospital and Motta Health Centre. The data were collected from June-20 to July-20, 2021 G.C. Fifteen essential medicines from both health facilities’ tracer drug lists were reviewed. The frequency and percentage of availability and stick-out duration were calculated, and the results were briefly described in the text and displayed in tables. The average availability of essential medicines on the day of the survey was 80% and 93.3% in Shegaw Motta general hospital and Motta health center, respectively. Besides, 60% and 20% of the essential medicines were stocked out at least once in the last six months (before the data collection period) in the hospital and health center, respectively. The average stock-out duration in the last six months period (before the data collection period) was 38.8 days (ranges from 10 days to 157 days) in the hospital and 11.2 days in the health center. Ferrous salt + folic acid 150mg + 0.5mg and Medroxy Progesterone injection were the medicines with the longest stock-out duration in Shegaw Motta general hospital and Motta health center, respectively. The average availability of essential medicines was fairly high both in the hospital and health center. In comparison to the hospital, the health center had better availability and a shorter stock-out duration. Over the last six months, a significant percentage of essential medicines were stocked out at the hospital.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
In the present paper, we have introduced a new model of gravastar with an isotropic matter distribution in Rastall gravity by the Mazur–Mottola (2004) mechanism. Mazur–Mottola approach is about the construction of gravastar which is predicted as an alternative to black hole. By following this convention, we define gravastar in the form of three phases. The first one is an interior phase which has negative density; the second part consists of thin shell comprising ultrarelativistic stiff fluid for which we have discussed the length, energy, and entropy. By the graphical analysis of entropy, we have shown that our proposed thin shell gravastar model is potentially stable. The third phase of gravastar is defined by the exterior Schwarzschild geometry. For the interior of gravastar, we have found the analytical solutions free from any singularity and the event horizon in the framework of Rastall gravity.
