Abstract:
One of the key parameters in the analysis of some motorcycle accident dynamics is the motorcycle’s deceleration during engine braking without applying the brakes. Since this issue lies far beyond what is usually of most interest—the critical states of movement—it is only sporadically addressed in the literature; however, these rare cases can be of fundamental importance. In our research, the results of engine-braking deceleration are presented for 26 motorcycles that were in gear with the throttle back. The tests were carried out at an initial speed of 140 km/h (if this was not possible, then from the maximum speed for a given gear) to the speed at which the motorcycle reached a constant speed or when engine operation became unstable. For all motorcycles and all gears, deceleration vs. speed and speed vs. time were plotted. Regression lines were determined, and their equations are provided, along with ±σ and ±2σ limit lines. Engine-braking deceleration was shown to be inversely proportional to both motorcycle speed (higher speed—lower deceleration) and gear number (higher gear—lower deceleration). Moreover, engine-braking deceleration at the top gear of the various motorcycles tested (i.e., 5th or 6th) was found to be close to each other. The data provided are of crucial importance from the motorcycle longitudinal dynamics and vehicle accident analysis standpoints.

Abstract:
An addition of centrifugal pump on the engine of automatic motorcycles is expected to become one of the solutions for fire incidents in densely populated areas in big cities. Many cases of fire-related incidents have not been handled properly due to limitations of access for fire engines such as narrow alleys. The effectiveness of the centrifugal pump for firefighter motorcycles is determined by the optimum function of the pump performance according to the desired specification. The repair of the brackets and the clutch mechanism for the pump in the engine of automatic motorcycles may assist to the full effectiveness of the pump. The repair is based on the stability of the number of cycle on the centrifugal pump during the cycle of the motorcycle engine without any load. There is no disruption to the motorcycle cruise control or an increase of load due to the addition of centrifugal pump in the motorcycle’s engine. By using the magnetic clutch which uses the electrical energy in the connection and disconnection of the joint, this model will be useful since it does not disrupt the motorcycle cruise performance and does not add an extra load to the motorcycle torso.

Abstract:
Abstract: Traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of death today. Motorcycle accidents lead to serious injuries. A helmet is important for every motorcyclist. However, many do not adhere to helmet laws. This is the software CNN uses to find motorcyclists without helmets. The structure consists of motorcycle detection, helmetless classification, and motorcycle licence plate recognition. The motorcycle is scanned with the feature vector HOG. Once the motorcycle is recognised by CNN, do motorcyclists wear helmets? Motorcycle licence plate if it is determined that the motorcyclist is not wearing a helmet. Motorcycles are recognised by Tesseract OCR.

Abstract:
Motorcycle is the most popular transportation means in Vietnam due to its low cost and flexibility. However, motorcycles emit substantial quantities of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and some amount of particulate matter. Emission factors for in-use motorcycles in Vietnam were studied and established quite a long time ago. The objective of this study is to update the emission factors, not only gaseous emissions but also particle number, for in-use motorcycles in Vietnam. Ten carbureted and electronic fuel injected motorcycles representative for in-use motorcycles were selected for investigation. Each motorcycle was fueled by conventional gasoline, E5 and E10 in turn, and was tested on a chassis dynamometer according to ECE R40 driving cycle. The gaseous emissions were sampled and determined by standard methods, while the particle number in exhaust gas was sampled by using the sampling system developed by Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Vietnam. The updated emission factors were then provided for carbureted motorcycles, EFI motorcycles and average motorcycle fleet in case of gasoline, E5 and E10 fueling.

Abstract:
With the highest concentration of motorcycles in Asia, Taiwan was caused a major traffic congestion and air pollution. To effectively reduce these environmental burdens, Electric Motorcycle Industry Development and Promotion Plan was passed by Taiwanese government. With this plan, people was encouraged to invest in mass production of electric motorcycles. This paper uses the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to explore consumers behavioral intentions and their influencing factors regarding using hydrogen-electric motorcycles. This is a first in hydrogen battery research, and also one of this papers contributions. Results show that consumers' innovativeness towards hydrogen-electric motorcycles does not significantly affect behavioural intentions. To increase customers' behavioural intentions towards hydrogen-electric motorcycles, the customers' innovativeness towards hydrogen-electric motorcycles should be strengthened by motorcycle manufacturers, and perceived risk should be decreased. Then, to improve customers behavioural intentions towards hydrogen-electric motorcycles in the end.

Abstract:
Abstract: Developing countries have always relied on motorcycles as their primary mode of transportation, but unfortunately, the number of motorcycle accidents has been on the rise in recent years. One of the leading causes of fatalities in these accidents is the lack of helmet usage by motorcyclists. To ensure that motorcyclists wear helmets, traditional methods include manual monitoring by traffic police at intersections or the use of CCTV footage to identify those not wearing a helmet. However, these methods require significant human effort and intervention. This system proposes an automated approach to identify nonhelmeted motorcyclists and retrieve their license plate information from CCTV footage. The system first differentiates moving objects as motorcycles or non-motorcycles. For classified motorcyclists, the system identifies whether they are wearing helmets or not. If the motorcyclist is not wearing a helmet, the system extracts the license plate number using an OCR algorithm.

Abstract:
Recently, the Indonesian government has been increasingly encouraging the population to utilize electric vehicles. In the public transportation sector, including ride-hailing services, the use of electric vehicles, especially motorcycles, is promoted. This study aims to explore the willingness to adopt electric motorcycles among ride-hailing drivers by specifying the preference for buying or renting in adopting electric motorcycles. Using a stated preference method, an interview survey was conducted on 416 ride-hailing drivers in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Nine variables were tested to understand the determinants of electric motorcycle adoption, including purchase or rental costs, cost for motorcycle title transfer, fuel price, maximum coverage distance, maximum speed, the distance between battery exchange stations, annual tax, and credit payment. By using the ordered logit model, the results revealed two variables affecting the purchase of electric motorcycles: purchase price and maximum coverage distance. Meanwhile, four variables significantly influenced the determination of electric motorcycle rental: coverage distance, fuel price, rental fees, and the distance between battery exchange stations. Sociodemographic variables also significantly affect the decision to rent but not purchase electric motorcycles. Meanwhile, full-time drivers and students who work part-time as drivers are more likely to rent electric motorcycles. This study also found that renting electric motorcycles had a better likelihood of adoption than owning them. Finally, several policies were proposed to boost the adoption of electric motorcycles among ride-hailing drivers, including subsidy provisions, technology improvement, and priority provisions for drivers who use electric motorcycles.

Abstract:
Motorcycles in Iran, especially in metropolises such as Tehran, are used extensively for various reasons such as low maintenance costs, high maneuverability, and the possibility of entering congestion priced zones without paying a toll. Nevertheless, motorcycles are involved in 25% of accidents and produce almost 30% of air and 50% of noise pollution in Tehran. Current research aims to investigate possible scenarios for reducing the use of motorcycles in Tehran’s traffic and transportation master plan strategies. After designing the scenarios, a stated preference method is used for gathering the required data from various groups of motorcycle riders in Tehran. More than 2,000 questionnaires were completed of which 1,766 were deemed acceptable for data entering and further analysis. Increasing the price of motorcycle maintenance and charging motorcycles to enter the congestion priced zone of Tehran (CPZT) were two main scenarios which were considered in this research. Multinomial and nested logit models were applied to analyze the trip choice behavior of motorcycle riders who had participated in the survey. Results indicated that strategies such as increasing motorcycle maintenance costs could be effective in reducing the use of motorcycles. For instance, increasing motorcycle maintenance costs by 4.7 times and imposing a 70,000 IRR toll price to enter the CP zone resulted in a 66% reduction in motorcycle mode choice by motorcycle riders.

Abstract:
The development of red boxes for motorcycles in Indonesia was initially adopted from the advanced stop line (ASL) for bicycles. The bike box concept was adopted for motorcycles in Indonesia. To date, red boxes have been fully implemented in 21 cities in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of traffic light countdown timers and motorcycle lanes as an approach to the red box for motorcycles at signalized intersections. There were four locations studied in Denpasar Bali, i.e., red boxes with countdown timer only (Condition 1), red boxes with motorcycle lane only (Condition 2), red boxes with countdown timer and motorcycle lane (Condition 3), and red boxes without countdown timer and without motorcycle lane (Condition 4). The analysis results based on motorcycle volume data indicate that a countdown timer has a significant effect in increasing motorcycle acceleration when the green light starts, reducing the possibility of motorized vehicles other than motorcycles stopping in the red box area and reducing stop line violations while waiting during a red light. Meanwhile, the presence of a motorcycle lane as an approach lane to enter the red box area has a significant influence on increasing the occupancy of the red box by motorcycles. In addition, the correlation test shows that the countdown timer has a strong correlation with the occupancy of the red box to capacity and to stop line violation. Meanwhile, the level of traffic flow is strongly correlated with the countdown timer and motorcycle lane.

Abstract:
World Health Organisation has determined that South-East Asian region has the highest road traffic death in 2015 involving motorised 2-3 wheelers. Generally, motorcycles are lack of active safety features that capable to prevent road accident. Therefore, this study aims to design and develop active safety features for a motorcycle to prevent a frontal collision through an audible warning to the motorcyclist and detected object when the collision is about to happen. The system should consist of a simple algorithm with a minimum set of hardware. Based on the design criteria for the system, an audible warning will only be given when all three conditions stated below are met. (1) An object is within stopping distance limit, (2) object heading towards the centre of motorcycle and (3) relative velocity of an object might cause a frontal accident. The system called Detection and Warning System for Motorcycle Vehicular Collision Avoidance (DEWAMCA). It is expected that DEWAMCA can assist currently available Blind Spot Detection System (BSDS) to reduce accident involving motorcycles significantly.

Abstract:
The purpose of this publication is to present the construction and adaptation of the test stand intended for motorcycle simulation research. The stand is designed to study the impact of motorcycle vibrations that act on the body of the driver and passenger. Motorcycles belong to one of the types of transport that directly affects users. Excessive vibrations transmitted to the body of the driver and passenger can make driving uncomfortable and even dangerous. The vibrations of motorcycles depend mainly on the technical condition of the vehicle, the structure of the vehicle, and the construction of the engine. The stand was built on the basis of a hydraulic power supply unit, distributor, and electrohydraulic pulsators. The purpose of the construction of the stand is to examine a given group of motorcycles to learn and eliminate vibrations that occur in various areas of motorcycles and affect the comfort, health, and safety of motorcycle travelers. Test studies of the presented stand are presented in this article. The preliminary results of the simulation tests determined the possibility of testing individual elements and motorcycles on the laboratory stand.

Abstract:
Motorbike vehicles are the most widely used private transportation by people to travel to places near and even far. In addition to motorcycles having a price that is relatively affordable by the public, motorcycles are much easier to go through all the congested and narrow road terrains. The increasing number of motorcycles circulating around and also the weak security system of motorcycles are one of the causes often targeted by theft. In this study, we provided a solution to this security by building a motorcycle security control system that can be accessed and controlled remotely using a Smartphone. The system installed on this motorcycle uses a microcontroller (Arduino Mega2560), a global positioning system (GPS) module, a vibration sensor module, and a relay module. The GPS module helps to determine the coordinates of the position of the motorcycle. These coordinates are sent and displayed through the Android application on the smartphone of the motorcycle owner. Based on the results of several tests, the system used can communicate well between the motorcycle and the motorcycle owner through the internet network, as long as the devices in the vehicle are connected to the internet network.

AbstractThis study compiled the number of End-of-Life motorcycles (ELMCs), utilizing Japanese official motorcycle data to clarify “the characteristics of distribution flow and main actors” of ELMCs. Based on its results, domestic ELMCs were estimated at approximately between 500,000 and 600,000 annually. The exact ELMCs number in 2019 was 521,644, 81.4% of which were exported. The ratio of exported used motorcycles among these ELMCs was analyzed and categorized according to engine discharge. Accordingly, the analysis showed that motorcycles with 50 cc and less total emissions had a high proportion, 62.8%, of the total in 2019. New insights from this study include (1) the characteristics of the used motorcycle distribution flow in Japan and that they are eventually exported and (2) the main actors in the distribution flow are used motorcycle auction sites that assume a leading role in recycling motorcycles domestically and internationally.

Abstract:
With the rapid rise in problems associated with use of motorcycles as alternative means to inadequate public transportation, this study seeks to identify household factors influencing motorcycle ownership in Makurdi. The study estimates the influence of the various household factors identified and a model for predicting motorcycle ownership is developed for the study area. Data were collected via a questionnaire survey of 1412 households in the study area. The survey revealed that the number of motorcycles owned per household in the low density zone was 0.67 while that for the medium and high density zones was 0.62 and 0.79 respectively. The multinomial logit model developed predicted that 67% of households owned motorcycles as compared to 71% observed from survey data. Severity applications of the model to test the effects of changing economic situations on motorcycle ownership showed that residents of the study area are more disposed to owning motorcycles in periods of recession than periods of economic boom. The study gives an understanding of motorcycle growth pattern and ownership characteristics in the study area and will therefore serve as a relevant input for planning, regulation and control of motorcycle activities in the study area.

Abstract:
High-powered motorcycles or supersports motorcycles, or superbikes are among the types of motorcycle that could be seen on the roads in many countries worldwide. Having top-notch features makes it to be among the best kind of motorcycles being produced ever since. However, its design features and purpose made it not to have a center stand like other motorcycles. Therefore, a paddock stand must be used, which requires at least two persons to use it safely. With the technological advancement in engineering design, researchers at the Motorcycle Engineering Technology Laboratory (METAL) innovated and introduced a single-user paddock stand that is efficient, ergonomic, and easy to use. This paper explains the evolution of the innovative stand that could help superbike owners lift their motorcycle safely and ergonomically, especially when no one is there to give them a helping hand. Abstract:
The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 mandated that motorcycles be permitted to travel on federally funded high-occupancy-vehicle (HOV) facilities unless they created a safety hazard or adversely affected HOV operations. Although motorcycles had previously been banned from traveling on Virginia's HOV lanes, the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) authorized motorcycle travel on HOV facilities in Virginia as of September 21, 1992, for a 2-year trial period. Study of that 2-year trial period found that motorcycles account for as much as 3 percent of the annual peak traffic volume on some HOV lanes. However, in the 2 years after the CTB authorized their travel on HOV facilities, there were only five motorcycle crashes on HOV lanes in the peak direction during hours that HOV restrictions were in effect. The study concludes that there is no evidence that allowing motorcycles to travel on HOV lanes in Virginia has an adverse impact on motorcycle safety or congestion on HOV lanes.

Method: Binary logit and mixed logit models that consider the heterogeneity of parameters were applied to identify the critical factors that increase the likelihood of motorcyclist fatality. Results: Mixed logit models were found to have better fitting performances. Factors that increase the likelihood of motorcyclist fatality include lanes separated by traffic islands, male motorcyclists, and riding with BAC values of less than the legally limited value. Collisions with trees or utility poles lead to the highest likelihood of fatality in SM crashes. The effects of curved roads, same-direction swipe crashes, youth, and unlicensed motorcyclists are only significant in the likelihood of fatality in SM crashes. Conclusions: Motorcyclists tend to be killed if they collide with large engine-size motorcycles and vehicles, unlicensed motorcyclists, or drivers with speeding related or right-of-way violations with positive BAC values. Driving or riding should be prohibited for any amount of alcohol or for anyone with a positive BAC value. Law enforcement should focus on unlicensed, speeding motorcyclists and drivers, and those who violate the right of way or perform improper turns. Roadside objects and facilities should be checked for appropriate placement and be equipped with reflective devices or injury protection facilities.

Abstract:
Electric motorcycles or e-motorcycles is a clean mode of road transport that present a prominent solution toward decarbonizing cities. Despite of e-motorcycles being cleaner than gasoline ones, at the moment, there is missing information whether it is feasible to replace gasoline motorcycles with e-motorcycles used for business transport purposes. This paper, therefore, presents the results comparing energy usage when using e-motorcycles and when using the gasoline motorcycles. The energy demand for driving passengers using an e-motorcycle in the precarious routes originated from Gongo la Mboto bus stop to Segerea bus stop, Buguruni Malapa, Gerezani bus stop, Kivukoni bus stop, and Buza bus stop has been estimated. In each route, the energy has been estimated in one and four round-trips. The results reveal that the brushless direct current motor (BLDC) rated 2.5 kW is suitable for driving two passengers while consuming about 0.05 kWh/km at 50 km/h for the distance of 36 km. Increase in route length exhibit the uptrend in total energy required (Etotal). The maximum Etotal for one and four round-trips are 2.5 kWh and 10.0 kWh, respectively, for a route of 36 km length. Considering the energy demand of 2.5 kWh for one round-trip of 36 km, a battery pack of 45 Ah 60 V is found suitable to power the e-motorcycle per charge without compromising the design in terms of weight and size. Consequently, this yields to a saving of about 6.4 kWh, which is around 72 % of the energy that could be used by its gasoline counterpart. This means an e-motorcycle of this power rating could save 0.18 kWh/km, equivalent to 0.02 L/km. Moreover, e-motorcycle could cost 24.3 Tsh/km compared to 754.8 Tsh/km for its gasoline counterpart, and save around 97 % of the fuel cost. These results indicate that an e-motorcycle can outperform its gasoline counterpart. These findings play vital roles in designing energy storage systems and charging infrastructure that could offer a reliable service to end-users and assist to accelerate e-motorcycle adoption.

Abstract:
Abstract. Gasoline-fueled motorcycles predominate as private vehicles worldwide. The high number of motorized vehicles running on fossil fuels contributes to air pollution and hence to the destruction of the environment and of human health. This has given rise to alternative vehicles such as electric cars and motorcycles—a market which Indonesia, with its high market share of motorcycles, ought to understand better. Consumer behavior related to electric motorcycles ought to be investigated to boost adherence to this type of vehicle. This study aims to evaluate the intention of residents of Surakarta, an Indonesian city with a dynamic market, to purchase electric motorcycles. The two independent variables implemented are perceived value and age, and respondents number 184, selected through cluster sampling to represent Surakarta’s population. The study employs ordinal logistic regression, as the response variable at hand is ordinal. Results show that age and perceived value influenced the intention to purchase electric motorcycles in Surakarta. Especially based on our young and middle-aged respondents, we can conclude that as perceived value increased, so did the probability of the intention to buy an electric motorcycle. Abstract:
Out of many plausible causative factors for the spike in accidents, lack of riding skills is reported to be a significant reason for motorcycle mishaps. The riding skills can be improved through better availability of training facilities (simulator). Non-availability of the dimensional database (of different types of motorcycles), which are essential for simulator design, makes it difficult for the designers/ engineers to build the commercially available cheaper motorcycle-simulators. Moreover, the available measuring techniques and devices are costly and unable to satisfy motorcycle measurement's diverse requirements. Thus, the present research aimed to prepare the dimensional database of motorcycles using an in-house fabricated measuring instrument. Following the adaptive design method, the alpha prototype of a laser-pointer-based measuring instrument was developed. The calibrated device was used for measuring the dimensions associated with the handlebar, seat, and footrest of the 23 different motorcycles under study. Detailed (linear, angular, and circumferential) dimensions of the handlebar, seat, and footrest were measured using sliding calipers and protractors. Generated dimensional databases of 18 critical dimensions from the handlebar, seat, and footrest of the 23 different standard-motorcycles would be useful for deciding the motorcycle simulator's dimensions.

Abstract:
Motorcycle riders have been the top contributor to road deaths for over a decade in Malaysia. With proper safety technology systems installed on the upcoming models, it is predicted that motorcycle crashes and deaths can be reduced in the next decade. This study aims to review the past, recent, and upcoming vehicle safety technologies from the motorcycle and passenger car perspective that can potentially help reduce motorcycle crashes and injury risks. Various safety technologies have been introduced for passenger cars such as anti-lock braking systems, electronic stability control, lane keep assistance, traction control, blind-spot detection, autonomous emergency braking, and many more. With the requirements of ASEAN NCAP, these technologies are introduced to make passenger cars safer and to avoid road collisions, especially with the motorcycle. However, the opposite is true for motorcycles where only expensive motorcycles have these safety technologies, while for lower- capacity motorcycles, only basic and compulsory technologies are introduced even though this group remains the top contributor to motorcycle crashes and road deaths in Malaysia. Therefore, it is suggested that more safety technologies be introduced for motorcycles especially lower-capacity models. While for passenger cars, there are newer technologies that can be introduced to improve the current offerings to enhance the safety of passenger cars and other vehicles on the road and reduce the risk of road fatalities.

Abstract:
Motorcycle travel is considered the most dangerous mode of transport in the world. Reports suggest that the fatality rate of motorcycles is 212.7 deaths for every million miles travelled on motorcycles. Unlike other forms of travel like cars, buses, etc, motorcycles expose the rider to their surroundings. In cars, the frame protects the driver from hitting the road or falling out of the car. But motorcycles do not have such a possibility. Therefore, the best way to minimize fatalities in accidents is to have an alert system that can alert the emergency services when it detects an imminent crash. This is where the motorcycle crash detection and alert system comes into the picture. It uses the MPU6050 Multi-axes accelerometer to detect when the motorcycle falls to its side. It sends the impact parameters to Firebase cloud and if the values meet the crash criteria, it sends an alert to the emergency contacts as well as to the emergency response services, who can then act according to it.

Abstract:
Background. The aims of this study were to identify subgroups of motorcyclists with a higher accident risk and evaluate the efficiency of protective clothing for preventing injuries.Methods. A 1-year prospective study of motorcycle crashes was conducted beginning in June 2012. Participants were patients involved in motorcycle crashes and admitted to our emergency department.Results. A total of 226 patients were included in the study. In total, 174 patients were involved in crashes with light motorcycles. Patients involved in a motorcycle accident without a helmet had a higher incidence of head and maxillofacial trauma. Motorcycle jackets were not protective for systemic injuries (P>0.05) or upper extremity fractures (P>0.05). Motorcycle pants (P>0.05) and motorcycle shoes (P>0.05) were not protective against leg and foot fractures. However, motorcycle protective clothes were protective against soft-tissue injuries (P=0.001).Conclusion. Riders of heavy motorcycles rode more safely than riders of light motorcycles. Light motorcycle riders were the most vulnerable and comprised the largest percentage of motorcyclists. Helmets may be effective for preventing head and facial injuries. Other protective clothes were not effective against fractures or systemic injuries.

Abstract:
The market share of Honda motorcycles in Indonesia is currently experiencing a decline. One of the causes that affect the decline in the market share of Honda motorcycles is the decline in buying interest of consumers who have been customers of Honda motorcycles to make repeat purchases. In addition, consumers of new motorcycles are also less interested in buying Honda motorcycles. This study aims to determine the effect of product quality, price and promotion on purchasing decisions for Honda motorcycles in Batu sub-district. The sampling in this study was non-probability sampling using a purposive sampling technique, totaling 40 people in Batu District who had purchased a Honda motorcycle. The data analysis technique in this study used multiple linear regression with the SPSS Version 25.0 program, after going through the instrument test and classical assumption test. The results of the study prove that two independent variables, namely product quality and promotion, have a significant and significant influence on the purchase decision variable for Honda motorcycles, while the price variable does not have a significant influence on respondents in determining the decision to buy a Honda motorcycle. Tests carried out together showed that all independent variables (product quality, price and promotion) had an effect on purchasing decisions. Abstract:
This article evaluates the evolution of motorcycle adoption in Brazil. More specifically, we aim to empirically understand the relationship between the number of two-wheeled vehicles and the country's level of development, as well as some of the factors that reinforce vehicle adoption in determined areas. The work uses data for 5565 Brazilian municipalities from 2010 to 2016 and implements a fixed-effects panel model. The results indicate an inverse relationship between income and number of motorcycles, corroborating the hypothesis of a Kuznets curve for motorcycles and income level in Brazil. In addition to the validation of the increase in the number of motorcycles observed in the country in recent years, we also find evidence that the increase in the number of motorcycles in municipalities may be related to the drop in formal employment, and big municipalities have the lowest per capita motorcycle ratio.

Abstract:
Research shows that about half of all motorcycle collisions with other vehicles were caused by the accident opponent, typically a passenger car. This study aimed to assess the effect of simulator training on improving car drivers’ perceptibility of motorcycles and thereby addressing this frequent type of motorcycle accident from the perspective of the initiator. For this purpose, a training program with different methods was conducted and tested in a driving simulator with 80 learner drivers aged between 15 and 27 years, assigned to a control group and three training groups: variable priority, equal priority, and equal priority with warning. The conflict scenarios were determined based on an analysis of motorcycle–car accidents. The variable priority training program resulted in better perceptibility of motorcycles as compared to the equal priority training program and equal priority with warning in two out of four test setups, i.e., urban roads with high contrast between motorcycle and the driving environment and on rural roads with a low contrast. Most participants rated each training method in the driving simulator as useful and would recommend it to other learner drivers. These results are important because they show that simulator training has a positive effect on the motorcycle detection performance of learner drivers. The early perception of motorcycles in car drivers is essential for preventing collisions between cars and motorcycles.

Abstract:
In recent years, the introduction of aerodynamic appendages and the study of their aerodynamic performance in MotoGP motorcycles has increased exponentially. It was in 2016, with the introduction of the single electronic control unit, that the search began for alternative methods to generate downforce that were not solely reliant on the motorcycle’s electronics. Since then, all types of spoilers, fins and wings have been observed on the fairings of MotoGP motorcycles. The latest breakthrough has been Ducati’s implementation of flow redirectors at the front and bottom of the fairing. The aim of the present study was to test two hypotheses regarding the performance of the flow redirector by responding to the corresponding research questions on its aerodynamic function and advantage, both in the straight and leaning position. In a preanalytical cognitive act, a visual study of MotoGP motorcycles was conducted and, accordingly, a 3D-CAD model was designed ad hoc in compliance with the FIM 2022 regulations for both the motorcycle and flow redirector. Numerical simulations using OpenFOAM software were then carried out for the aerodynamic analysis. Finally, the Taguchi methodology was applied as an effective simulation-based strategy to narrow down the combinations of geometric parameters, reduce the solution space, optimize the number of simulations, and statistically analyse the results. The aerodynamic performance of the flow redirector is highly dependent on the inlet flow when the motorcycle is in a straight position. The results indicate that all models with leaned motorcycle bearing the flow redirector, regardless of geometry, have an aerodynamic advantage, as the appendage generates downforce with a minimal increment of the drag coefficient. In a cornering situation, the flow separator in the flow redirector reduces the disadvantageous influence of wheel rotation on the “diffuser effect” by drawing the flow towards the outside of the curve, creating extra downforce.

Abstract:
Abstract. Air pollution is one of the most pressing emerging issues in Indonesia. To reduce emissions, people need to shift from conventional to electric motorcycles (EM). However, the number of conventional motorcycles (CM) in Indonesia is still far above electric, and there is no certainty whether the market will adopt it. Therefore, this research aims to identify significant factors that influence consumers’ decision in choosing electric or conventional motorcycles and to identify preferred motorcycle type, as well as to calculate the elasticity of each factor. Choice modeling analysis is used to estimate the probability of choosing motorcycles and the attributes that influence the decision. Data is collected through an online survey sent to 470 respondents. This research used three methods in processing the data: factor analysis, multinomial logistic regression, and demand elasticities analysis. Based on the result of this research, it is found that the significant factors are purchase price, charging times, driving range, and attitude towards each motorcycle type. Additionally, it is found that most of the respondents prefer electric motorcycles to conventional ones. The results suggested that motorcycles manufacturers should consider selling EM with lower prices, develop fast charging technology, and improve driving range, while the government should provide incentives for EM users. Therefore, this research supports findings to decrease air pollution in Indonesia by increasing the use of EM. Abstract:
The objective of this study is to explore the potential for electric motorcycles to support a developing Asian city to be a low carbon society. The study surveyed the attitudes of motorcyclists to determine the proportion of motorcyclists willing to use an electric motorcycle and also estimated the reduction of CO2 emission from the transport sector in Khon Kaen city, Thailand. The approach Bottom-Up2 by road network with the transport demand forecasting model and emission factors by vehicle type were used to calculate CO2 emissions for each road link. 16% of motorcyclists currently using gasoline motorcycles would be willing to use electric motorcycles in the near future. To evaluate CO2 emission reduction, the future condition with introduced electric motorcycles was compared to the future do-nothing condition in the same future year. The evaluation result reveals that the electric motorcycle introduction could reduce 2.4% of CO2 emitted by the transport sector from the future do-nothing condition.

Abstract:
Motorcycle dominates traffic in Bali, particularly in urban roads, which occupy more than 85% of mode share. The three types of vehicles, i.e. motorcycles, heavy and light vehicles share the roadways together. Under mixed traffic conditions, motorcycle may be travelling in between and alongside two consecutive motor vehicles. Considering such a situation, passenger car equivalent values should be examined thoroughly. This study aims to determine passenger car equivalent (PCEs) of motorcycle at mid-block of Sesetan Road. Three approaches are used to examine the PCEs values. This study found that the PCE of motorcycles are in a range between 0.2 and 0.4. This values are about the same to the existing PCE of the Indonesian Highway Capacity Manual (1997). This study also pointed out that motorcyclists and car drivers may behave differently to the existence of motorcycles. Car drivers are more aware than motorcyclists on the existence of motorcycle on the road. Further, more samples are required to obtain comprehensive results. In addition, the presence of heavy vehicles need to be considered for future study.

Abstract:
Due to a lack of physical protection and balance, motorcycle riders are one of the most vulnerable road users and are more likely to suffer severe injuries than motorists. Between 2009 and 2020, about 60% of motorcycle crashes occurred on nonintersection urban roadways in Victoria, Australia. While considerable research on intersections and their influence on the severity of motorcycle crashes has been conducted, there are limited studies on motorcycle crashes on nonintersection roadways. Since gathering all information from every motorcycle crash may not be possible, heterogeneity can arise from unobserved factors and cause problems in developing reliable crash severity models. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the factors contributing to motorcycle crash severity on Victorian nonintersection urban roadways while considering the heterogeneity of factors. A total of 10,897 nonintersection motorcycles crash data from the beginning of 2009 to November 2020 in the State of Victoria, Australia, were analyzed. A random parameters (mixed) logit model (RPL) was used for evaluating motorcycle crashes. The severity of motorcycle crashes was divided into three categories: fatal injury, serious injury, and minor injury. Also, marginal effects were calculated to see how each parameter estimate affects crash severity outcomes. The RPL model results showed that some factors increased the likelihood of fatal injuries. These factors included not wearing a helmet, being in the older rider age group, riding during the early morning or midnight hours, weekend motorcycle use, riding in the early morning or midnight hours (00:00–6:29 A.M), and insufficient lighting (dark and dusk/dawn). Also, the following factors enhanced the probability of serious injuries: having a pillion passenger, having a motorcycle age of more than 7 years, riding at higher speed limits (more than 50 km/h) or during peak hours in the morning (6:30−8:59 A.M), and being in the younger age group (less than 26 years old). The findings from this study are valuable resources for road safety policy managers to develop effective strategies for improving motorcyclists’ safety at nonintersections. This may include improving the light conditions at nonintersection, encouraging the motorcyclist to maintain motorcycles regularly, and educating the motorcyclist to wear a helmet, avoid distractions, and ride responsibly on the weekends.

Abstract:
After covid-19 hit the world, the economy and consumer behavior changed utterly. This research examines consumer purchasing behavior towards Honda Matic motorcycles in Manado City based on demographic, psychological, information sources, and consumer expectation. The study found that men who were less than 34 years old and came from the middle class were most motorcycle buyers. Buyers themselves decide to buy a motorcycle because it is more economical and comfortable to use by themselves in supporting work activities because motorcycles are faster than other vehicles. The source of consumer information about motorcycles comes from friends and family, consumers will conduct searches on the internet. Consumers expect a comfortable waiting room with guaranteed service as well as discounts and better designs in the future. Social media is expected to be a source of information on motorcycles and dealers will remain the location for purchasing motorcycles later. Companies can create marketing strategies to attract different consumers while retaining existing consumers. Companies can make aggressive promos on the internet such as guaranteed service discounts and attractive image designs. The role of the dealer and the influence of word of mouth of friends and family needs to be maintained so dealer satisfaction can increase.

Abstract:
Motorcycles are among the most vulnerable vehicles on the road. Although a combination of different factors may cause motorcycle crashes, an appropriate design of roadside safety systems can play an important role in limiting the severity of motorcycle crashes. Roadside safety systems are not typically designed with the special needs of motorcyclists in mind. The Roadside Design Guide provides guidelines for proper concrete barrier placement on roadways but does not address motorcycle barriers ( 1). The Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware includes testing guidelines and evaluation criteria for roadside safety barriers impacted by errant vehicles but does not address impacts by motorcycles ( 2). There is a need to improve motorcyclist safety by designing and evaluating a containment system for upright errant motorcycle riders impacting a concrete barrier. This system would prevent riders from flying over, while limiting injury severity to the rider during the impact event. In this study, finite element computer simulations were used to assist with the design and evaluation of proposed containment options to be mounted on a concrete barrier. An upright motorcycle full-scale crash test with a Hybrid III 50th percentile male dummy was conducted to evaluate the crashworthiness of a chain link fence containment system supported by U-shaped posts and attached to a curved concrete barrier section. The test was conducted at nominal impact speed of 35 mph and impact angle of 18 degrees to the barrier. During the impact event, the system successfully contained the dummy, which did not interact with the system posts.

Abstract:
Motorcycles are the main means of transportation that is widely used to support the activities of their societies. Prior to the development of technology, motorcycles still use carburetors. But motorcycles are still using carburetor system is still quite wasteful. With the development of technology, there is now applying the Yamaha brand motorcycles capable of supplying petrol injection engine needs. Motorcycles injection technology is much more efficient compared to motorcycle carburetor technology, in addition to economical motorcycle of this type has a performance engine and a reliable power. But frequent obstacles that cause damage to the injection Yamaha motorcycle, disrupting users. An expert system is a system that adopts the expertise of an expert an expert in a particular field into the system or a computer program is presented with a display that can be used by a user who is not an expert so that system users can make a decision or set policy like an expert in finishing problem. Certainty factor method used to obtain the value of the certainty of damage from an expert motorcycle injection, so that the user also gets the value of the damage certainty selected symptoms of the experience of experts. The results of diagnostics in expert system that has been made that if the user mencheklis symptoms such as clogged when rotated gas engine, electric distater difficult / lift, lights up when the engine is difficult to use the kick starter, often emit exhaust sound of an explosion, it can be concluded from the analysis that the damage found on the spark plug with a value of MB = 0.99, MD = 0:22 and Certainty Factor value of 76.66%. The diagnosis ever made by a visitor or mechanical accessible again by entering an email to the database.

Abstract:
Motorization in Asian countries is growing fast, and the motorcycle is the dominating transport mode. The number of motorcycles per thousand people averaged over several major Asian cities is significantly higher than the average of the rest of the world. With the growing use of motorcycles, road injuries and fatalities are a growing concern in Malaysia and one of its major causes is vehicle blind spots. In this work, we conduct a survey to assess the perception of the behaviour of road users concerning the risk of blind spots towards motorcyclist safety in Malaysia. We asked 397 respondents to classify themselves into one of these driving roles – (1) motorists (those who drive vehicles other than motorcycles), (2) motorcyclists, and (3) dual-role (drives other vehicles and motorcycles). We provide the respondents with 21 questions classified into few categories of assessments including blind spot awareness, blind spot risks, perception of faults in road collisions and near-misses, motorists and motorcyclists' behaviours, perception towards motorists, motorcyclists, and technology used to improve road safety. We found that 98.2 % of respondents are aware of the existence of blind spots on the vehicle and a total of 43 % of respondents agree that they have driving difficulty due to blind spots. Moreover, 75 % of respondents suggest that blind spot is a major contributing factor to road collisions or near-misses, with 63 % of collisions experienced are side collisions. We found that more than 30 % of motorists and motorcyclists believe that motorists are not careful towards motorcyclists' safety. Moreover, 51 % of motorists perceive motorcyclists as not being careful towards their safety, but 40 % of motorcyclists stated otherwise. Dual-role drivers show that they are more cautious towards the safety of fellow motorcyclists than the motorists. More dual-role drivers than motorcyclists suggest that they practice good behaviours in relation to vehicle blind spots while riding a motorcycle.

Abstract:
Asia has the highest number of registered motorcycles globally, and the recent data has shown that motorcycles fatalities have been the main road death category in the Southeast Asian region. One of the major concerns is the visibility of motorcycles to other vehicles on the road. Thus, in this project, UN R46 and FMVSS regulations have been referred to as the base guidelines to establish a novel test protocol for vehicles rearward visibility assessment. Sixteen cars have been benchmarked and analysed in terms of their rear-view mirror (Class I) and external mirror (Class III) performance. Motorcycles visibility to the vehicles’ Class I and Class III mirrors also been assessed by converting the measured data into several motorcycles based on its width. A proposed performance scoring system for ASEAN NCAP has been developed based on that to address the Motorcycle Safety pillar.

Abstract:
There is a widespread belief that motorcycles are more difficult to detect in traffic than are cars and trucks, which has led to much research designed to enhance motorcycle conspicuity. This paper examines the basic concept and finds that it lacks empirical support. Further, a number of other possible explanations could account for the differences one finds when comparing car-motorcycle and car-car collisions. Additional research is required to determine whether conspicuity is a special problem for motorcycles and the extent to which such a problem might contribute to crash involvement.
