Abstract:
Despite mixed results, state government use of targeted economic development programs has escalated. This study evaluates the impact of motion picture incentive programs, an array of tax incentives employed by over 40 states to entice film and television productions out of California and New York, on labor and economic conditions from 1998 through 2013. Results suggest that sales and lodging tax waivers had no effect on any of four different economic indicators. Transferable tax credits had a small, sustained effect on motion picture employment levels but no effect on wages. Refundable tax credits had no employment effect and only a temporary wage effect. Neither credit affected gross state product or motion picture industry concentration. Incentive spending also had no influence. These findings demonstrate the heterogeneous impacts of different incentives offered under a single program and should inform future economic development policy design.

Abstract:
The motion picture industry is subject to extensive business and management research conducted on a wide range of topics. Due to high research productivity, it is challenging to keep track of the abundance of publications. Against this background, we employ a bibliographic coupling analysis to gain a comprehensive understanding of current research topics. The following themes were defined: Key factors for success, word of mouth and social media, organizational and pedagogical dimensions, advertising—product placement and online marketing, tourism, the influence of data, the influence of culture, revenue maximization and purchase decisions, and the perception and identification of audiences. Based on the cluster analysis, we suggest the following future research opportunities: Exploring technological innovations, especially the influence of social media and streaming platforms in the film industry; the in-depth analysis of the use of artificial intelligence in film production, both in terms of its creative potential and ethical and legal challenges; the exploration of the representation of wokeness and minorities in films and their cultural and economic significance; and, finally, a detailed examination of the long-term effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and other crises on the film industry, especially in terms of changed consumption habits and structural adjustments.

Abstract:
‘Oscar’ is the best-known symbol of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. But there is more to the Academy than the golden statuette. The Academy’s Margaret Herrick Library, which has been in existence for 80 years, is widely regarded as the pre-eminent research and reference facility for the study of all aspects of motion pictures, as an art form and an industry. The non-circulating research and reference collection, located in Beverly Hills, California, is open to the public, free of charge, and is heavily used by students, scholars, industry personnel, journalists, filmmakers and the general public. Its holdings document the multiple facets of the film industry and its personnel, past and present, and include books, periodicals, clipping files and screenplays, as well as special collections of photographs, manuscripts, posters, graphic art materials, music and recorded sound, and oral histories.

Abstract:
<p><strong>INTRODUCTION:</strong> Musculoskeletal injuries may have a significant economic impact on the film and motion picture (FMP) industry. However, there is currently no comprehensive data on the cost of workers’ compensation (WC) claims in the FMP industry. We present the first analysis of the cost of musculoskeletal injuries in the California (CA) FMP industry.</p><p><strong>METHODS: </strong>We reviewed the WC claims database of the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California (WCIRB) from 2003 to 2007 and employment statistics through the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). We analyzed the medical cost and indemnity of musculoskeletal injuries and compared the CA FMP injury data to the data for all CA industries.</p><p><strong>RESULTS: </strong>From 2003-2009, the total cost of WC claims in the CA FMP industry was $19.1 million per year, 88.6% of which was attributed to musculoskeletal injuries. The anatomical sites which incurred the most expense were the knee, lower back, and ankle at $2.3, $1.5 and $1.1 million per year, respectively. The most expensive causes of injury were work-directed activity and falls, totaling $5.4 and $4.7 million per year, respectively. The most costly types of isolated injuries were dislocations and fractures at $57,000 and $55,000 per claim. Additionally, the average cost per anatomic site, cause of injury and type of injury were significantly different for the CA FMP compared to CA industry in general. Over the course of the seven years that data was reviewed, orthopedic injury cost $191.71 per worker per year while orthopedic injury cost $224.00 per worker per year across CA industries (p&lt;0.001).</p><p><strong>CONCLUSION: </strong>Musculoskeletal injuries contribute substantially to both FMP expenditures and US WC costs. Though the costs for injuries were statistically significant between the FMP and CA industries, the clinical significance has yet to be seen. The data presented in this study provides detailed data to help guide future designs for reducing costs associated with workplace injury in both the FMP industry and across CA industries.</p>

Abstract:
Historians of Weimar have often regarded heavy industry as instrumental in the Republic's eventual collapse. Socially reactionary and with undue political power, heavy industrialists allegedly sought an excessive share of resources and influence at the cost of labour and the more liberal newer industries. However this received picture is too simple. Heavy industry suffered repeated crises which triggered internal conflict, and inconsistencies in relations with government and labour. Furthermore, in unwitting anticipation of the European Union, there arose a tentative willingness to repair external economic relations, with France in particular.

Abstract:
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia transformed from a developing Middle Eastern nation into a regional power with ambitious projects in a variety of sectors. In this framework, the government proceeded to legalize cinemas in 2018, with an unprecedented step of issuing seven licenses for major cinema operating businesses. All of the prominent steps designed to promote the film industry align with the broader concept of expanding Saudi Arabia’s cultural and economic boundaries by adopting a path towards modernization and diversification. As the study seeks to investigate the social and economic prospects of the newly-established motion picture sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the review is based on the recent commitments and current plans by Saudi authorities and associated organizations. From the socio-economic perspective, the decision to lift the ban on theatres is a crucial milestone, allowing the country to strengthen its entertainment sector. Despite the diversity of suggested strategic plans, the consensus of the Saudi authorities is to stimulate both local and foreign businesses seeking to open new cinemas in Riyadh, Jeddah, and other cities.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) poses several implications on manufacturers in terms of economic, ecological, and social aspects referring to the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) of sustainable value creation. Due to its technical core, the current research focused on its technical fundamentals, whereas the economic discussion is still in its infancy. This paper aims at painting a comprehensive and structured picture of IIoT-related economic, ecological, and social benefits and challenges. For this purpose, we employ an exploratory multiple case study approach based on semi-structured expert interviews in 46 manufacturing companies from three leading German industries. Our study contributes to the sparse body of scientific IIoT literature by analysing the IIoT’s implications according to the TBL. We show that, in order to qualify for sustainable industrial value creation, the IIoT requires an extension of the established TBL by three further dimensions, i.e., technical integration, data and information, and public context.

Sustainability 15, no. 5 (February 26, 2023): 4215. http://dx.doi.org/10.3390/su15054215.

Abstract:
As an alternative for sustainable transportation and economic development, biofuels are being promoted as renewable and climate-friendly resources of energy which can help to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, some pollutant emissions and mitigate the climate change impact from transport. With the successful development of the biofuel industry, the location selection for biofuel production plant is one of the major concerns for the governments and policymakers. Finding locations for the construction of new biofuel production plants includes several dimensions of sustainability, including economic, social and environmental; therefore, this selection process can be considered a complex multi-criteria decision-making problem with uncertainty. As an advanced version of fuzzy set, picture fuzzy set (PiFS) is one of the comprehensive tools to handle the uncertainty with the account of truth, abstinence and falsity membership degrees. Thus, this work proposes a new decision-making methodology based on the weighted aggregated sum product assessment (WASPAS) approach and similarity measure with picture fuzzy information. By using picture fuzzy numbers, the proposed methodology can effectively address the uncertain information and qualitative data that often occurs in practical applications. In this methodology, a picture fuzzy similarity measure-based weighting model is proposed to find the criteria weights under picture fuzzy environment. For this purpose, a new similarity measure is introduced to measure the degree of similarity between picture fuzzy numbers. Moreover, the rank of the options is determined based on an integrated WASPAS approach under a PiFS context. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework, a case study of biofuel production plant location selection is presented from the picture fuzzy perspective. Further, a comparison with existing methods is conducted to test the validity and applicability of the obtained results. The sensitivity analysis is performed with respect to different values of decision parameter, which proves the stability, robustness, and practicality of the proposed approach. The presented picture fuzzy WASPAS approach feasibly enables the policymakers to identify the most desirable location for a biofuel production plant by considering the social, environmental and economic aspects of sustainability.

Abstract:
The Indian motion picture industry has experienced phenomenal growth during the last few decades and plays an important role in emerging economy of India. This paper integrates three analytical models in order to address the intriguing problem of revenue prediction of movies in Indian film industry. The paper attempts to investigate the determinants leading to the success of indigenous movies in Indian context. Ensemble model has been constructed by integrating the three analytical models (Neural Network, Classification and Regression Tree and Robust Regression) using linear optimization approach. Further, a four-way comparative analysis of these three models along with Ensemble model has been carried out. The predictive power of the models has been evaluated using four performance metrics namely root mean squared error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and large prediction error (LPE). Analyzing novel and original data of 120 Indian movies released during the period August’06-October’15, this paper inspects the nitty-gritties of Indian film industry and seeks to explain the nuances. The study revealed that factors like hype generated on web by a movie, screens on which the movie is released, rating garnered by movie and its genre are the most influential variables in deciding the box-office performance of a movie. Further we observed, that the neural network model closely competes with ensemble model in terms of predictive accuracy. The ensemble model considerably reduces the predictive errors and yields better results on two of the performance metrics.

Abstract:
This article traces the long and antagonistic fashioning of the National Recovery Adminstration's code of practice for the film industry during 1933. The NRA code process publicly exposed resentful fissions within Hollywood, and the oligarchic, if not monopolistic, way in which the major film studios had set up their vertically integrated consolidation of the motion-picture industry in terms of production, distribution and exhibition on a national scale. A media spotlight flooded onto their soundstages and executive suites, and many, including President Franklin Roosevelt, were not pleased with what they saw. The NRA, signed into law in 1933 by Roosevelt, implemented an unprecedented reorganization of the American economy to restore employment to combat the Great Depression. Perhaps most controversially, especially for the union-averse film industry, the NRA established collective bargaining. Though they supported it initially, the major studios would not long abide by the NRA. Throughout 1933, they violated the spirit and letter of the code, ensuring as much as possible that the economic pain and sacrifice of the Great Depression in Hollywood was visited upon artists and technicians, not studio heads and executives. They used the making of the code to attempt to cement and further the advantages they enjoyed while offering little to other interests in the film industry.

Abstract:
Policy termination has received less scholarly attention than policy diffusion, and empirical state-level studies that examine the rise and fall of the same policy are mostly absent from the literature. This study assesses the factors that led more than 45 states to enact and some to later repeal Motion Picture Incentive programs, a collection of tax incentives aimed at facilitating job creation and economic diversification. We find program enactments were driven by rising unemployment and national but not bordering state imitation. Falling unemployment and national trends drove subsequent terminations, but in many states, their impact was overwhelmed by the influence of incentive spending, which greatly reduced termination likelihood. These results not only shed light on policy enactments and terminations in general, but also inform scholarship on state tax incentives and the role of competitive factors in their creation and repeal—or lack thereof.

Abstract:
Once the film industry moved to Los Angeles fiom the East Coast in the 1910s, Hollywood became the source of the negative stereotyping of Latinos in mainstream American cinema. This article argues that the anti-Mexican American discourse in Southern California during the motion picture industry’s formative years provided the social context for those derogatory film images. In doing so, the essay synthesizes two bodies of literature that rarely comment on one another: early Hollywood studio history and works treating the Mexican American experience in Southern California. Three main elements that shaped the anti-Mexican American discourse are discussed: (a) the ostracizing of Mexican Americans to East Los Angeles at the same time that movie companies were flocking to the opposite side of town; (b) the social, economic, and political climate that resulted in anti-Mexicano attitudes, and (c) the view of Mexico as a playground for the United States.

Abstract:
Renewable energy has the potential to power the global economy and effective business models will significantly aid this goal, being among the most critical factors in spurring expansion in the energy industry. This paper reviews articles that discuss business models in the renewable energy sector. Longterm economic, social, and ecological stability is concerned. Previous studies have neglected the environmental sustainability of renewable energy business models, focusing on their technical, social, and economic aspects, primarily for energy access. The business models for solar home and pico systems relied heavily on lowering costs through creative payment plans for customers to be commercially viable. The demand for mini-grids requires end users to launch businesses that can leverage electrification initiatives to be commercially viable. The success of a mini-grid depends on the average consumption and revenue per user. Affordability, unmet energy needs, low electricity demand, lack of financing, unfamiliar business models, and immature markets have impeded energy access in Indonesia. Our analysis revealed that future studies in this field must include environmental sustainability to provide a complete picture for decision-makers. Renewable energy needs in Indonesia can be achieved through the sustainability domain, policy makers can consult this evidence set.

Abstract:
SummaryThe paper aims to provide with a close picture of the SME public policies in one of the most prominent capitalist economies of the world, that of the European Union. In order to do this, a qualitative analysis has been undergone, on the basis of the following indicators: access to financial resources for SMEs, regulatory and legal frameworks for SMEs, and public assistance on information and knowledge about markets. Since there is no prior research on the subject, the implications of this paper have impact on the theory, practice and policy making. The results of the content analysis suggest that there is a contemporary structure to the European SBA, with a focus on a persistent business approach, based on the results of scientific research and market studies involving the problems raised by the now compact European SME industry. In the end, it must be acknowledged that the present research is only preliminary, and to better understand the mechanisms behind the European policy, further studies on the subject are necessary. Nevertheless, the paper has managed to point out that public policy in the SME industry represents one of the most important aspects of the EU-28 new economic direction.

Abstract:
Bangladesh, a fast-growing developing country, has been experiencing rapid development in export-oriented industrialization. The total contribution of the garment industries to the national foreign exchange earnings is around 83%. About 80% of garment workers are women, and most have migrated from rural areas to industrial cities. Female workers have been an important factor in the growth of the garment industry in Bangladesh. Despite its contribution to the national economy and employment opportunities, the garment industry in Bangladesh is beset by many grievances. Such as sexual harassment, health problems, lack of toilet facilities, exploitation of low-paid and overworked workers and large-scale social insecurity. The present research analyzed such violations from different aspects with a qualitative approach, The main objective of this paper is to find out the types and nature of human rights violations that occur against female garment workers in Bangladesh. The present research combines both exploratory and descriptive methods. Sampled garment workers from two selected factories were surveyed and interviewed to understand the practical situation at the field level. The data findings have provided a complete picture of the nature of the human rights violations that occurred. The human rights of women workers have been found to be violated from all nine indicators. The patriarchal socio-economic setting and economic vulnerability of the women and their lack of awareness, as well as reluctance and quick profit motive of the factory owners, have contributed most to such unwanted situations.

Abstract:
The article deals with the study of aspects of the actualization of the motion concept within the English railway transport discourse. It reveals the notion of concept actualization, identifies lexical means of its actualization, presents lexicographic and contextual analysis. It proves the thesis about the multifaceted and multilayered organization of this macro-concept, covering all transport areas. The linguistic means objectifying the concept convey a wide range of meanings. The core of the concept is formed by the verbs of motion, reflecting the direct physical movement of a subject or object in space. The verbs contain a nuclear seme and some additional characteristics of movement. The verbs of movement mainly contain the seme of a vector, regular, controlled movement, movement with the application of certain efforts, movement focused on the hauling some objects. The specificity of the research material allows us to see the conceptual features of movement in a professional environment. The motion concept acquires additional features, based on the fact that movement becomes an aspect of commercial activity that requires the involvement of various kinds of resources, a socially significant factor for the whole society, ensuring both proper functioning of not only the transport, but also the economic industry. The motion concept can be represented as a macro concept that combines other basic concepts. Blurring, fuzziness of boundaries between concepts is manifested in diffuseness, that is, in the ability of some components of one concept to participate in the creation of another.

Abstract:
The accelerating processes of regionalization and glocalization of national economies are gradually changing the globalization path of development, as they fit more into the transforming picture of the new world order, in which not only geopolitical and economic aspects are changing, but also approaches to understanding the essence and practical implementation of the concepts of sustainable development, environmentally friendly development and socially oriented behavior. But despite a fairly large-scale change in development trajectories, absolutely all subjects of the world economy are influenced by digitalization trends, which are becoming almost the main tools for implementing political, economic and other types of national strategies. Thus, the formation of regional clusters is occurring on the basis of the influence of two strong factors at once – the widespread glocalization of the economy and the digitalization of all spheres of society, enabling regions to strengthen their specific territorial competitive advantages, including through the use of modern digital tools, since despite the ambiguity of the goals of Industry 4.0, it is impossible to avoid its influence, which means that it is necessary to use the advantages that it provides for the development of both individual economic entities and their associations within cluster formations. The paper attempts to consider the digital tools currently available for use by regional clusters and find out what competitive advantages their competent application can provide.

Abstract:
Projects have grown into more dynamic and complex endeavors, and agile project management should be considered as a way to deal with them. This is a novel study in this field, because the implementation of agile project management in the automotive industry was not explored so far, thus, this work intended to fill this gap, by identifying barriers in the implementation of agile methodologies in project management regarding the automotive industry. This was conducted through a questionnaire survey, which was developed and distributed to 148 manufacturing companies of components for the automotive industry, out of a total number of companies of 240, and 56 complete answers were obtained (23.33%). Statistical analyses were performed using a Kruskal–Wallis test, a Mann–Whitney test, and Spearmen’s correlation. A real picture of the implementation of agile project management in the Portuguese automotive industry is depicted through this work. ‘Organizational’, ‘Knowledge and Technology’, ‘Institutional’, and ‘Financial’ barriers are found to be the most important. However, in overcoming these barriers, companies can be more sustainable in economic, environmental, and social terms. Recommendations on how to overcome these barriers were presented, and a framework sequencing these recommendations was presented, leading to an effective implementation of agile methodologies. It starts with the willingness of the company, and all collaborators, to adopt the agile methodologies, looking for the agile values as an input in order to achieve a competitive advantage. It is followed by an initial investment, which intends to attain the deployment of an agile team, composed of highly skilled collaborators with a clear understanding of the agile objectives, who disseminate knowledge about agile methodologies to the other collaborators, increasing their ability to implement agile methodologies in project management. This team should work and develop frameworks and workflows, according to each company’s characteristics and environment. The studied aspects can be replicated in other countries, and allow a comparison of the situation between countries, trying to correlate the culture of each country with the ability to implement agile methodologies, among other aspects, such as economical level of the companies, type of production, and the commitment of the collaborators to improve processes and create competitive advantages with which to face competitors.

Abstract:
The safety and well-being of industrial workers has become a primary concern for organizations worldwide. One of the critical aspects of industrial safety is the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including helmets. This project proposes the development of an IoT-based smart helmet designed to enhance the safety and efficiency of industrial workers. The smart helmet integrates multiple sensors, such as temperature, humidity, motion, and gas sensors, to monitor the worker's environment in real-time. These sensors gather data on potential hazards like extreme temperatures, toxic gases, or sudden impacts. The helmet also includes a communication system that enables seamless interaction with control centers or other team members. The mining industry, a vital contributor to global economic growth and infrastructure development, grapples with inherent safety challenges posed by hazardous environments and unpredictable events. In response to these concerns, this abstract introduces the "Smart Helmet for Air Quality and Hazardous Event Detection" – a groundbreaking technology tailored specifically for mining. This advanced helmet integrates sensors like the MQ3 gas sensor, temperature and humidity sensors, LED lights with automatic controls, and a GPS module. Real-time data from these sensors are transmitted to an IoT platform, enabling continuous monitoring and immediate alerts. Traditional safety measures, including personal protective equipment and periodic monitoring, fall short in addressing the dynamic conditions of mining environments. The Smart Helmet offers a comprehensive solution by providing continuous air quality and environmental monitoring, coupled with automatic lighting and location tracking. This innovation marks a paradigm shift in mining safety, addressing the urgent need for proactive measures to safeguard the well-being of miners in the face of persistent safety challenges. Key Words: Safety, Sensors, IoT, Smart Helmet, Air quality monitoring

Abstract:
This article advances research on external urban relations by drawing attention to the role of temporary project-based economic organisation in the formation of inter-firm links between cities. Through a novel empirical examination of (trans)national co-production in the motion picture industry, we reveal how such projects transcend the boundaries of individual production clusters and link urban centres within specific network configurations. Stripping away the ‘top layer’ of Hollywood’s commercially successful feature films, we undertake a social network analysis of film productions in four markets across three continents – China, Germany, France and Brazil – to provide a unique comparative analysis of networked urban geographies. Our findings show that film production networks are grounded in existing structural relations between cities. The spatial forms of these networks range from monocentric in the case of the French film market, to dyadic in the case of China and Brazil, to polycentric in the case of the German film market. Conceptually, we argue that adopting an inter-firm project-based approach can account for the ways in which complex patterns of inter-firm production relations accumulate to form (trans)national city networks. Viewing city networks in this way provides an important alternative perspective to dominant conceptualisations of global urban networks as formed through corporate intra-firm relations.

Abstract:
The study of rural population in the regional context makes it possible to identify demographic problems and analyze the factors influencing the state of rural population and settlements of the republic on the example of the Predvolzhsky agrarian economic region (Predvolzhie) of the Republic of Tatarstan with predominantly rural population. The period for considering the development of the rural population of the economic region was chosen from 1959 to 2019, since the Soviet period of the development of the planned economy and the formation of market relations in agriculture in the republic has its own characteristics and aspects. A significant impact on the rural population of the republic was exerted by the large-scale diversified development of industrial production: the automotive industry, petrochemical production, and the electric power industry. The study reveals the complex impact of historical, geographical, social, economic, transport factors affecting the demographic processes in the rural population of this economic region. The dynamics of changes in the main indicators of demographic processes of the rural population of the Volga region is considered on the example of Apastovsky, Buinsky, Drozhzhanovsky, Kaibitsky, Kamsko-Ustinsky and Tetyushsky rural municipal districts of the Republic of Tatarstan. The article shows the internal territorial differences in the population density of the Predvolzhsky economic region and analyzes the main demographic indicators (birth rate, mortality, decline in dynamics over 60 years), and also reveals positive and negative trends of these indicators using the example of specific municipal areas. The analysis of changes in the dynamics of the rural population and settlements and the reasons for its decrease is presented on the basis of statistical materials of the All-Union and All-Russian population censuses. The article identifies three periods of development of the rural population in the municipal districts of the Predvolzhsky economic region of the Republic of Tatarstan, which reflect the general picture of the vector of development of the rural population of the republic in the period under study. The current crisis state of the demographic indicators of the agrarian economic region shows the need for targeted management decisions in this direction. The research emphasizes that at the moment the country people need economic stability. Existence in rural areas of jobs, the stable salary will allow to stabilize a situation of reduction of country people.

Abstract:
Smart Factory is a complex system that integrates the main elements of the Industry 4.0 concept (e.g., autonomous robots, Internet of Things, and Big data). In Smart Factories intelligent robots, tools, and smart workpieces communicate and collaborate with each other continuously, which results in self-organizing and self-optimizing production. The significance of Smart Factories is to make production more competitive, efficient, flexible and sustainable. The purpose of the study is not only the introduction of the concept and operation of the Smart Factories, but at the same time to show the application of Simulation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods in practice. The significance of the study is that the economic and social operational requirements and impacts of Smart Factories are summarized and the characteristics of the traditional factory and the Smart Factory are compared. The most significant added value of the research is that a real case study is introduced for Simulation of the operation of two collaborating robots applying AI. Quantitative research methods are used, such as numerical and graphical modeling and Simulation, 3D design, furthermore executing Tabu Search in the space of trajectories, but in some aspects the work included fundamental methods, like suggesting an original whip-lashing analog for designing robot trajectories. The conclusion of the case study is that—due to using Simulation and AI methods—the motion path of the robot arm is improved, resulting in more than five percent time-savings, which leads to a significant improvement in productivity. It can be concluded that the establishment of Smart Factories will be essential in the future and the application of Simulation and AI methods for collaborating robots are needed for efficient and optimal operation of production processes.

Abstract:
Said innovative policy and influencing movements, the circumstance of governing natural resources has been changing in the last decade. Along with the wave of democratization in the late 1990s, the global norms of transparency and accountability reach new leverage today, including in Southeast Asia. The norms ignite the active participation of civil societies in controlling extractive governance – a praxis that never been occurred in two or three decades ago. Meanwhile, the governments require people active participation to advance people trust and political legitimation. Innovative policy and influencing movements stand at the central argumentations of this book. Perceive as an introduction, this book denotes contributions on the extractive industry governance by using the lenses of civil society movements to acquaint intricacy of the sectors. There is a “resource curse” or paradox of plenty refers to the paradox that countries with an abundance of natural resources tend to have less economic growth and worse development outcomes. Therefore, the civil engagement has been perceived as a tool to ensure the benefit of extractive industries run for the greatest benefit of the people, as well as mitigates the risk and undesirable impacts of the extractive operations.Throughout the selected articles, the book addresses on how civil societies engage in the extractive industries governance and through what mechanisms. Instead of outlining resource revenues management as the crucial aspects to be monitored by the citizens, this book rather highlights political perspective to challenge conventional understanding that extractive industries are pure – exclusively – economic affairs. The analysis convinces that extractive industry is highly political since they draw elites into the core decision-making. The high intensity of money and high technology within sectors subsequently renders those activities beyond the reach of the public. Thus, strong civil societies with the active participation are required to undermine oligarch notions and miss use power of the extractive sectors. The discussion of civil society engagements in this book is divided into process and results. The selected cases depict experiences from the local, national, and transnational contexts enrich the discussion and provide civil society movements in a broader sense. The multi-governance perspectives are used to picture the multiple factors enabling the movements, including various challenges and opportunities for the engagements. The elaboration on the book’s content will become the entry point to the more critical discussion in the subsequent of this review.

Abstract:
Contemporary social trends such as globalization and technological develop- ment affect national cinema as well as world cinema in general. Discussions about national cinema should therefore be placed within the context of the nation-state itself and transnationally. The continuity of fi lm industry in Croatia exists from the very beginnings of the fi lm, but it as a product of the cinema that is closely related to social, political and economic circumstances which had multiple implications on its development. The aim of the paper was to examine the features of Croatian national cinema as well as the aspects of its affi rmation and reception, which ultimately enabled understanding of the developmental and integrative factors of Croatian cinema. Insight into the developmental and integrative factors of Croatian cinema presents a wider picture of the problems and perspectives of Croatian national cinema today. The qualitative approach was used in the research and semistructured interviews were conducted with interviewees closely related to film and film production. The analysis shows diffi culties in developing a specifi c style and achieving greater international visibility. An important moment was the establishment of Croatian Audiovisual Centre which devised a plan for Croatian national cinema and brought fi nancial independence. This consequently led to the rise of investments and quality of fi lms and even to international festival visibility of Croatian cinema. At the beginning of the 21st century Croatian fi lm industry developed infrastructure, provided support for young fi lmmakers and created the preconditions for quality and innovative fi lm titles.

Abstract:
The publication presents a picture of modern steelworks that is evolving from steelworks 3.0 to steelworks 4.0. The paper was created on the basis of secondary sources of information (desk research). The entire publication concerns the emerging opportunities for the development of the steel producers to Industry 4.0 and the changes already implemented in the steel plants. The collected information shows the support environment for changes in the steel sector (EU programs), the levels of evolution of steel mills, along with the areas of change in the steel industry and implemented investment projects. The work consists of a theoretical part based on a literature review and a practical part based on case studies. The work ends with a discussion in which the staged and segmented nature of the changes introduced in the analyzed sector is emphasized. Based on the three case studies described in the paper, a comparative analysis was conducted between them. When we tried to compare methods used in the three analyzed steel producers (capital groups): ArcelorMittal, Thyssenkrupp, and Tata Steel Group, it can be seen that in all organizations, the main problem connected with steelworks 4.0 transition is the digitalization of all processes within an organization and in the entire supply chain. This is realized using various tools and methods but they are concentrated on using technologies and methods such as artificial intelligence, drones, virtual reality, full automatization, and industrial robots. The effects are connected to better relations with customers, which leads to an increase in customer satisfaction and the organizations’ profit. The steel industry will undergo further strong changes, bringing it closer to Industry 4.0 because it occupies an important place in the economies of many countries due to the strong dependence of steel producers on the markets of the recipients (steel consumers). Steel is the basic material needed to make many products, and its properties have been valued for centuries. In addition, steel mills with positive economic, social, and environmental aspects are part of the concept of sustainability for industries and economies.

Abstract:
This study proposes a theoretical approach to the idea of a platform for research and education on the historical substance of regionalization in Romania, with reference to the case of the historical province of Moldova. Furthermore, to identify the consequences, reactions, weaknesses, opportunities afforded by administrative restructuring from a post-regionalization demographic and socioeconomic viewpoint. An inter-disciplinary analysis – historical, demographic, economic – the traits of a Romanian society stemming from Moldova, the historical dynamics that underpin the modern Romanian state, will provide a picture of the current situation, focused mainly on its causes while trying to find explanations rooted in economic and social behaviours and attitudes which came to define and inform the subsequent development strategy of regionalization, allowing Moldova to play a central economic role in relation to other territories, similar to the role it played in the past two centuries, in the context of European integration strategies, in neighbouring parts of the continent (Republic of Moldova, Ukraine). The theoretical approach involves three components, expanding concentrically: 1) component of knowledge / research; 2) digital platform; 3) e-learning component. The research component seeks dynamic historical development of Moldova, from the time after the Union of the Romanian Principalities until today, focusing on specific regional elements. We will try to identify and analyze the specific features of Moldova, links with other areas of historical Moldavia, as the interaction between them and the Romanian public policy. Within the demographic component, we look at the historical population dynamics of Moldova, including various ethnic and religious communities, rural-urban ratios, social and professional structures. Another issue concerns the economic and comparative analysis in space and time, with respect to Moldova historical economic dynamics parameters - resources, infrastructure, industry, agriculture, trade, transport, etc. Both aspects will be analyzed in correlation with the impact of a permanent political factor, pursuing public policies promoted by the political regimes in their chronological sequence.

Abstract:
Introduction. The article deals with one of the key issues of the Eurasian economic order related to the Byzantine Empire, which lasted for more than a thousand years (395–1453) and experienced periods of growth and decline, in which military expansion was replaced by crises and internal upheavals. The Byzantine state has always been under pressure from outside, but it has learned to survive among rivals and enemies. The Power of Byzantium in many respects ahead of its era, was not only the largest feudal entity of the Middle Ages, but also along with this centralized state, which had a powerful system of administrative management, which played an important role in regulating of the economic order. Materials and Methods. Current methodological approaches based on the principle of spiritual understanding of the modern world picture, as well as the degree of theoretical elaboration at the present stage of development of society the problem of forming the mentality of a particular nation, studying cultural phenomena in a historical context contribute, we believe, the disclosure of the “conceptual entity” the Byzantine heritage. Results. The analysis of sources and materials that consider various aspects of scientific works of Byzantine taxonomists on the economic structure. The characteristic features of the economic policy of the Byzantine Empire are revealed and the conclusion about the significance of the Byzantine experience for regulating the economic order in modern States is substantiated. Discussion and Conclusion. The Byzantine state, which actively intervened in the regulation of the economy, received a relatively stable economic order, which allowed it not only to maintain its well-being throughout the centuries of the Empire’s history, but also to cope with crisis situations. The variety of forms of farming in early Byzantium was reflected in the effective interaction of commodity production developed in cities and the economic system of rural settlements. The flourishing of trade and industry were mainly characteristic of coastal cities, whose economic expansion only slightly affected the agricultural sector of the Empire, while there was a partial taxonometrization of the economy. Despite short periods of weakening trade priorities of Byzantium, we can not talk about the economic disaster of the Empire, because it had at its disposal the economic reserves of the provinces. The state has repeatedly experienced shocks accompanied by crises, but has maintained sufficient viability, subsequently reviving and returning to its previous positions.

Abstract In the environment of the CleanSky2 project ecoTECH, INVENT developed an alternative sustainable aircraft interior item. The main objective of the ecoTECH project is to explore new solutions to reduce the environmental footprint of aircraft components during their global lifecycles and make these solutions available to the aviation industry. In the Workpackage Biomaterial a/c Interior Demonstrator INVENT leads the development of a drawer box as an exemplary aircraft interior part, made from eco-friendly materials. The benchmark with regard to economic and ecologic aspects is set by a state-of-the-art aircraft interieur item for which the new biomaterial drawer box is developed as a 100% substitute. Along the way to catch up with this commercial example, several challenges that are typical for the use of biomaterials were faced during the different development phases which could be divided into material evaluation and selection, design, testing on specimen level and manufacturing of the demonstrator. Especially the development of the material-appropriated design and manufacturing approach to compensate specific disadvantages of the selected eco-friendly materials to fulfill the same requirements as the state-of-the-art example, were central aspects and took up a large proportion of the overall effort. In parallel with the technical development, also a complete LCA data collection was prepared and later completed during the manufacturing phase of the biomaterials drawer box. In combination with the EoL approaches, evaluated by the associated project ELIOT, the collected information forms a holistic picture of the environmental footprint over the lifecycle of the new interieur part. This data set allows also a comparison with the already existing state-of-the-art drawer box not only under the aspects of weight and stability, but also regarding for example energy consumption, production time and recycling potential. This project has received funding from the Clean Sky 2 Joint Undertaking under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme

Abstract:
Research aim is to determine the content of motion design as a popular direction of design activity in Ukraine, its role and prospects in the context of modern Ukrainian graphic trends in general, and media art in particular. Research methods. The research methodology is determined by the topic, based on the complex use of methods of generalization, deduction, comparison, forecasting, analogy, as well as chronological and analytical methods. Scientific novelty. This article demonstrates a new look at some concepts within the scope of the study, which are firmly rooted in modern artistic everyday life and thereby caused the need for an objective assessment relevant to current realities. In particular, the offer to expand the classification of motion design products is important: instead of dividing projects into two types (art objects and commercial objects), the allocation of a third group – information objects – is justified. Such classification makes it possible not only to more accurately specify the genres of numerous works of motion graphics but also to formulate the corresponding algorithms for their design, taking into account a new understanding of the content. Furthermore, during the research, it was proved that Ukrainian motion design is currently at a decisive stage, when, on the one hand, it is possible to state the prospect of rapid advancement of this art form thanks to favorable socio-cultural circumstances, and on the other hand, an undeniable problem on this path, which has become as a result of domestic education lagging behind the active dynamics of digital demand. Therefore, it is obvious that the coming decade can direct the vector of development of motion design in our country to a higher level, provided the necessary transformations of the educational system and, of course, economic stabilization after military actions on the Ukrainian territory. Conclusions. Motion design is a specific and effective method of working with graphic content of different quality, which involves the results synthesis of numerous types of other design activities, such as animation, 3D modeling, video design, illustration, etc. In this regard, a motion designer must be a versatile specialist and possess a significant amount of theoretical and practical knowledge, and skills. Unfortunately, in the field of the Ukrainian motion industry, it is currently possible to state a shortage of masters of a similar level. However, the active popularization of this profession and all related aspects deserves praise, which, without a doubt, gives hope for the rapid advancement of motion design. Moreover, for a long period (more than 30 years), we have been observing the powerful dynamics of this art form in the context of media art in our country – growth from elements of production cinema and television to a separate, full-fledged field of digital marketing.

Abstract:
There are various angles one can view the military aggression of Russia against Ukraine and the entire civilized world from: political, historical, economic and other, yet it can also be considered in a much larger framework – mental and cultural. This aspect is the least discussed in the scientific circles; however, it is impossible to understand the essence of geopolitical processes disregarding the given segment of the modern world picture. This paper deals with an analysis of the worldview model of an average citizen of the Russian Federation, and they account for about 80 percent of the ethno-demographic array; it also extrapolates intellectual reflections to the European socio-cultural space. The research revolves around such basic impact factors as language, communication, media space, and society. The whole century of constant information interventions, methodically carried out by the political and propaganda industry from the territory of Russia, resulted in the appearance of a specific mental and worldview space. Its common representative’s mentality and reality perception characteristically is invariably clouded by the following elements: the lack of trust to any other nation (we talk about cultural phenomena here), groundless self-admiration, understanding of personal helplessness, irresponsibility, following a totalitarian leader and his utopian ideas. In this realm, one can find an explanation for the low ethical level and lack conscience of the common citizen of the Russian Federation, his petty worldview, cruelty and antagonism towards the Ukrainian people. All the social-mental characteristics of the Russian nation serve to prove the deep crisis of the spiritual sphere and the agony of the "Russian world" as such. Its desperate lunges towards independent Ukraine, other post-Soviet republics, and the civilized world in general are in fact a manifestation of collective mental disorders, they contain metastases aimed at fairly marginalized segments of the Eurasian reality and make up a recurring phenomenon. In his research, the author relies on the interfield material in social sciences and humanities, on the analysis of communicative behavior of political leaders and representatives of the cultural and scientific elite of modern Russia, on media products of propaganda channels, on the content of social networks, etc. The article introduces the typology of the main characterological features of the modern Russia mental space.

Abstract:
The forestry complex plays an important role in the rural economy of the municipalities of the Komi Republic. However, due to the nature of the distribution of forest resources and types of forestry activities, its effectiveness and impact on the socio-economic development of territories is different. This provision actualizes the development of a methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of the forest complex in rural areas of the Komi Republic and proposals for directions and mechanisms for its improvement. The purpose of the research is to develop ways to improve the efficiency of the forest complex of rural areas of the Komi Republic. The object of the research is the methodology for assessing the efficiency of the forest complex in rural areas of the Komi Republic, as well as the directions for its improvement. The hypothesis of the research is to measure the effectiveness of the functioning of the forest complex of the region based on the structural-territorial differentiation of territories. The methods used of the research. The methodological features of the study are: structuring the efficiency of the forest complex on the production, socio-economic, spatial and bioeconomic; use of a set of indicators characterizing these aspects of efficiency; aggregation of indicators into group and final efficiency ratings by districts; analysis of the factors that determined the spatial differentiation of the efficiency of the forest complex. The statement of basic materials. As a result of a study on a structured set of indicators, a picture of the structural and territorial differentiation of the efficiency of timber industry activity was obtained, formed by the distribution of relevant indicators characterizing the influence of various factors using a rating score. The modern limitations of the development of the forest complex of municipalities of the republic with a rural economy are highlighted. The оriginality and practical significance of the research lies in the possibility of conducting a typology of rural areas according to the level of efficiency of the forest complex, as well as proposing directions and mechanisms for its improvement, applicable to each group of districts. Conclusions of the research. An integrated assessment of the efficiency of the forest complex of rural areas has allowed to identify areas with high, medium and low levels of efficiency, as well as a separate group of areas with “non-forest” specialization or with a weak forest industry. Prospects for the further use of the results obtained can be adjusted by the strategy of socio-economic development of territories, as well as new approaches to the location of productive forces in the North.

Abstract:
The article examines the globalization – in its Americanization format – of the international cinematic communication within the perspective of the cultural diversity issue. The globalization process is comprehended as a result of the historical succession of market formations: from free competition in American cinema to an oligopoly and on to a national and an international monopoly. During the period of polipoly, the trail for globalization was blazed by the grande dame of the cinématographe: France. The United States, where in 1908 the market share of French films equaled 70%, mounted a resolute challenge. Under consideration are three factors – institutional, geopolitical, and creative – of the loss by the French of their domination over the American and, then, their own market. To the soft power of American cinema, the French state responded with the quota stimulation for the exhibition of national films, motivating it, among other things, by the necessity of providing for the external and internal security of the state, by the guardianship of customs and national traditions. To the quotas as a means of mitigating the soft power of the United States did recourse some other countries too: larger ones, for economic considerations; smaller ones, for cultural. The globalizational might of the American film industry is explained through the rational choice of the main line for its stylistic development and the filmmakers’ masterfulness, as well as through the professionalism of managemental and marketing actors, investment from big capital, and through support from government in its push for the «cultural hegemony» of the United States. The major studios that emerged during the period of oligopoly (1909– 1929) competed with one another on the terms of a certain accord. With the means of competing by supercostly investments, far beyond the capabilities of smaller studios, the majors established for the domestic market a regime of national monopoly (1930–1946). On the world market the elected method of competition enabled the American film industry, in the second half of the 1940s, to gain the position of the international monopolist. An important role in the process was played by Motion Picture Export Association, established in 1945: a sort of «a diplomatic service» that functioned with permission from and under the support of the U.S. government. From its position of the global monopolist the American film industry strives not only to dominate in the intercultural cinematic communication, but, in this status and as a means of the popular geopolitics, to control it through lobbying and by exporting capital and goods. The transborder circulation of products by various national cinemas and cultural diversity of cinematography have largely fallen prey the globalization process. On the basis of vast factual research is recreated the state of the art for the imbalance in the intercultural film communication. When, in a socialfunctional respect, the importing of films mainly supplants their production in a certain country, the socium, by a large magnitude, is deprived of the chance to reproduce its culture and, accordingly, its identity with the means of depicting its own image and of mastering it. The making of national cinematic picture of the world and its integration into the communicative process becomes a topical task of providing for cultural diversity.

Abstract:
Abstract Purpose Gold extraction in the Amazonian rainforest is accompanied by ecological threats and social grievances, but at the same time, the artisanal small-scale gold mining sector (ASGM) provides a livelihood for many people. To address this tradeoff, this paper analyzed the social aspects and their possible relations by conducting a case study based on a Social Life Cycle Assessment (SLCA). This study seeks to determine whether SLCA is capable of reflecting the sector. Method A literature-based guideline was used for collecting primary data during several field trips to the Tapajós Region in Brazil. This research instrument constituted the basis for information-oriented interviews and on-site observations. The SLCA categories used in this study were based on the United Nations Environment Programme and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (UNEP/SETAC) guidelines and the categories in the Fairmined Standard. In addition, secondary data obtained from the literature were used to provide insights into the sector. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis with both deductive and inductive approaches. Results and discussion This study described the social aspects of the ASGM sector in the Tapajós Region, including the absence of the state, the illegality and informality of mining operations, the remote and rural area, and the organizational structure. In addition, the extraction methods, poor working conditions, and difficult living conditions were considered. Certain characteristics of the industry like unstable payments, worker movements, and low education levels were recognized, and thus, the relations among the social categories and rebound effects were identified. Several issues were proven to be key factors: unstable payments, autonomy, and the rebound effects of excavators. Complex relations among social issues but also towards ecological and economic issues do exist. The suitability of using the SLCA to reflect the ASGM sector was tested on this basis. Conclusion In some respects, the SLCA had limitations, e.g., due to the nonlinear relation between working hours and the amount of extracted gold. The impacts of technology depend on the underlying definition that is used. The current lack of cause-effect models impedes the assessment of an overall picture that considers the relations among the social aspects and other elements of sustainability. A holistic view must be applied if ecological problems are to be solved.

Abstract:
Introduction. In order to create a successful growth and development of the tourism business, management personnel need to have a complete picture of both the external environment and the internal state of the enterprise. An integrated management system based on a balanced system of indicators is designed to formulate and provide integral relevant management information. The integrated management system allows you to track important information both at the macro level, at the micro level, and within the investigated enterprises. The hypothesis of the scientific research consists in substantiating the conceptual system of management information support, which takes into account the main parameters of the activity of tourist enterprises and is aimed at the comprehensive identification of bottlenecks of its activity, the formation of measures to eliminate deficiencies in management and improved systems of complex management information. The purpose of the study is the formation of elements of a complex information system for managing information support for the development of tourist enterprises. The methodology of scientific research is to ensure the management of a tourist enterprise with a unified system of information support based on the results of research using general scientific and special methods. One of the main methods is dialectical, since all phenomena are considered as a whole, all processes are organically connected with each other and are in continuous motion. Specific methods: analysis and forecast – when evaluating the management system according to various criteria; normative – to compare the obtained indicators with the existing system of norms and standards in the IT industry. Conclusions and prospects for further research. The implementation of an integrated unified information support system will allow the tourism business to focus attention and mobilize resources on achieving long-term goals, optimize operational activities, significantly improve the results of enterprises and create its unique strategic competitive advantage. The use of the information system has a socio-economic effect, which is expressed in reducing the labor intensity of asset management operations, ensuring comfortable working conditions, improving the qualifications and development of personnel, obtaining new information and skills for working with the new information system, making recommendations for its improvement, and improving the climate in the team due to a clearer division of powers and spheres of responsibility. Keywords: tourist enterprises; management; information systems; potential of the tourism industry.

Abstract:
The article combines historical, cultural and systematic approaches to the analysis of digital transformations of society and man. Digital technologies play a crucial role in the transformation of economy, politics and society at the new stage of technologization. Developments and strategic projects for the introduction of artificial intelligence, robotics, augmented and hybrid realities are implemented not only in the areas of dangerous, labor-intensive and routine work (i.e. in military affairs, industry, financial and economic operations), but also in the intellectual and creative spheres. The global time of change requires a global-system analysis. The invention of high information technologies and the interest of big business in the one-sided technologization of society disrupted the balanced co-evolution of computer technology and society. The author offers a noo-eco-geosystem approach to the analysis of the crisis of technogenic civilization and the search for ways out of it. The complex grid of coordinates of the analysis includes planetary-physical, geo-ecological, geopolitical, geo-economical, geo-social, national socio-cultural, ethical and anthropological dimensions. The noo-eco-geosystem approach makes it possible to reveal the catastrophic risks of digital economy and society strategies. The author considers energy and information and communication technologies as catalysts for the accelerated transformation of society and the individual. These catalysts allow us to identify both the negative and positive aspects of the global processes of evolution, as well as the “positive in the negative”. The system analysis of digital transformations of society and man assumes consideration of methodological aspects of opportunities and limitations of technologies. The destructive and purifying character of the transformations of nature and society is considered as a self-organizing process of the formation of the global world order, the future picture of the world and the qualitative transformations of the mind on the basis of the values of noospheric ethics and geosociality
