Abstract:
Moriori culture is one of the most researched in the Pacific, and yet perhaps one of the least well understood. Until the last 30 or so years, history had consigned the Moriori people of the Chatham Islands near New Zealand to being defined as extinct and almost landless. Today Moriori are in a spirit of revival and reconnection with their identity and culture. Through the gift of the Traditional Knowledge Revival Pathways (TKRP) software system, laser scanning of rākau momori (tree carvings), and involvement in the Intellectual Property Issues in Cultural Heritage (IPinCH) Project, Moriori are developing an extensive database of cultural landscapes, elder stories, traditional practices and digital records of taonga. The next stage of this research will involve development of an intranet guide to taonga Moriori (ancestral artefacts) in overseas collections. Here we explore the methods and technology that Moriori have been using to assist in the process of preserving taonga for present and future generations to enjoy.

Abstract:
A range of leaf forms of Phormium tenax J.R.Forst. & G.Forst. can be observed in the wild on the Chatham Island archipelago. At one extreme are plants with more or less upright leaves, similar to those observed in New Zealand P. tenax, and at the other extreme there are plants with floppy leaves. The upright-leaved form is found more or less throughout the archipelago, whereas the floppy-leaved form is concentrated in the southern part of Chatham Island, Pitt Island, and on the other southern islands (e.g. South East and Mangere islands). Analysis of amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) and simple-sequence-repeat (SSR) variation, and comparison with a diverse sampling of New Zealand Phormium suggested that both Chatham Islands forms are indigenous and part of a common gene pool. We found no evidence of hybridism with Phormium introduced from New Zealand. Floppy-leaved forms are therefore linked to typical upright leaved P. tenax through upright-leaved plants with bent tips, and do not require taxonomic recognition. AFLP and SSR data both support the view that a plant collected from Ranui Cove, Auckland Island, is descended from Chatham Islands material, and was most likely introduced there by Ngāti Mutunga and Moriori settlers during the 19th century.

Abstract:
Nowadays, the dynamics of non-integer order system or fractional modelling has become a widely studied topic due to the belief that the fractional system has hereditary properties. Hence, as part of understanding the dynamic behaviour, in this paper, we will perform the computation of stability criterion for a fractional Shimizu–Morioka system. Different from the existing stability analysis for a fractional dynamical system in literature, we apply the optimal Routh–Hurwitz conditions for this fractional Shimizu–Morioka system. Furthermore, we introduce the way to calculate the range of adjustable control parameter β to obtain the stability criterion for fractional Shimizu–Morioka system. The result will be verified by using the predictor-corrector scheme to obtain the time series solution for the fractional Shimizu–Morioka system. The findings of this study can provide a better understanding of how adjustable control parameter β influences the stability criterion for fractional Shimizu–Morioka system.

Abstract:
Irepacma was established by Moriuti, Saito & Lewvanich in 1985, with Irepacma pakiensis Moriuti, Saito & Lewvanich, 1985 as the type species. It shared the two-segmented labial palpus in male with the closely related genera Periacma Meyrick, 1894, Ripeacma Moriuti, Saito & Lewvanich, 1985 and Epiracma Wang, 2005. The typical character to distinguish Irepacma from its allies is the absence of the apophyses anteriores in the female genitalia. In the male genitalia it is closer to Periacma Meyrick, but can be distinguished mostly by the absence of the dorso-proximal process of the valva, or by having a dorso-proximal process that often far exceeds half the length of the valva.

Abstract:
Abstract Abralia veranyi and Abraliopsis morisii were the most abundant cephalopods caught during epipelagic and mesopelagic surveys off the Canary Islands and accounted for 26% and 35% of the cephalopod catch, respectively. Diel vertical migration patterns were observed in both species. At night, A. veranyi was recorded at depths as shallow as 38–90 m, whereas Abraliopsis morisii occurred at depths of 98–219 m. As individuals grow in mantle length, their diet changes substantially. Abraliopsis morisii showed ontogenetic shifts at 22.9 mm and 35.3 mm dorsal mantle length (DML), while A. veranyi showed ontogenetic shifts at 20.5 mm and 30.9 mm DML. Prior to the first ontogenic shift, both species fed mainly on copepods and mysids. After this shift they fed on larger prey, such as decapods and fish; the diets of larger individuals also contained cephalopods.

Full text
Abstract:
Understanding seed viability under long-term storage conditions provides basic and useful information to investigate the effectiveness of seed banking. Besides the germination success, seedling establishment is also an important requirement, and a decisive step to ensure plant propagation. We used comparative data of germination, seedling growth, and survival percentage between fresh and 10-years-stored seeds of Senecio morisii, a narrow endemic and vulnerable species of Sardinia (Italy), in order to evaluate if differences exist in these traits between fresh and 10-years-stored seeds. Stored seeds showed higher germination percentages than fresh ones, whereas seedling growth and survival did not present significant differences between them, except for seedling growth in plants produced from seeds germinated at 25 °C. This study allowed us to assess if seeds of S. morisii were able to germinate under controlled conditions, and if they maintained their viability and germination capacity for at least 10 years of long-term storage in the seed bank. In addition, the high seedling survival detected in both fresh and stored seeds suggests that stored seeds of S. morisii can be used to support reinforcement or reintroduction actions when fresh materials are not available.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the synchronization rate for identical synchronization of chaotic dynamical systems, achieved by using controllers. The paper stresses on the hybrid feedback control technique and the tracking control technique and determines their corresponding maximum, minimum, and average synchronization rates. The results obtained are applied on the Shimizu-Morioka chaotic system, and some necessary and sufficient conditions for synchronization are obtained. Comparison of the two controllers is undertaken on the basis of their synchronization rates, in the context of the Shimizu-Morioka system. The results are analyzed both theoretically and numerically. Moreover, a method of graphical analysis is proposed to completely characterize the set of hybrid controllers for a given system.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Research subject. This article presents data on the age, material composition, petrogenetical and geochemical properties of morion-containing granites in the Etytei and Khamnigadai massifs of Central Transbaikalia.Materials and methods. The composition of rock samples was investigated using the methods of chemical analysis, XRD and ICP-MS; the age was determined by the zircon U–Pb method using SHRIMP and LA-ICP-MS; the mineral composition was studied using an LEO-1430 electron microscope.Results. The massifs composed of morion-containing granites belong to Early Jurassic (190–185 Ma) and form the peripheral area of the Early Mesozoic Khentei-Dauria magmatic region.Conclusion. According to their petrochemical and mineralogical characteristics, the morion-containing granites under study differ from typical intra-plate granitoids and correspond to the “oxidized” A-type granites. The black smoky colour of quartz contained in granite samples is associated with a relatively high radioactivity of rocks caused by the presence of accessory thorium and uranium-containing minerals.

Abstract:
Plant cell cultures provide an alternative means for producing secondary compounds in food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Ehretia asperula Zollinger & Moritzi is used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of liver detoxification, ulcers, tumors, inflammation and enhancing the body's resistance in Vietnam. The study was carried out to select suitable callus line for cell suspension cultures of E. asperula Zollinger & Moritzi and investigate the effects of inoculum size, rotation speed and naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) on the proliferation of cell suspension cultures. In addition, the influence of light intensity on the growth and rosmarinic acid (RA) biosynthesis of cell suspension was also surveyed. After 4 weeks of culture, the white to pale yellow friable callus expanded significantly with a fresh weight (FW) of 0.788 g and a high RA content of 2.062 mg/g FW. An appropriate medium for cell proliferation was the liquid B5 medium, which contained 30 g/l glucose, 0.1 mg/l benzyl adenine (BA) and 0.4 mg/l NAA. The results also demonstrated that a 1:20 ratio (w/v) inoculum size, darkness and rotation speed of 90 rpm were the optimal conditions for the proliferation and RA accumulation to 188.217 mg/l in 4 weeks of culture. These findings showed that E. asperula Zollinger & Moritzi cell suspension cultures could be a potential alternative approach for RA production in vitro.

Abstract:
Sequences of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of nuclear ribosomal DNA were used to examine genetic divergence of the two species of katsura [Cercidiphyllum japonicum Sieb. & Zucc. and Cercidiphyllum magnificum (Nakai) Nakai] and four clones of weeping katsura (`Amazing Grace', `Tidal Wave', `Pendulum', and `Morioka Weeping'), and to characterize the affinity of these weeping katsura to both species. Our results indicate that C. japonicum and C. magnificum are genetically distinct, supporting the recognition of them as separate species. Based on our DNA sequence data and morphological evidence, all weeping selections are phylogenetically derived from C. japonicum, not C. magnificum; nor are they of a hybrid origin between C. japonicum and C. magnificum. We propose the new cultivar-group Cercidiphyllum japonicum Weeping Group to include all katsura clones of weeping or pendulous habit, and recognize the cultivar epithet `Morioka Weeping' and its application to the excurrent and upright clone obtained from Japan and distributed in North America by the Arnold Arboretum.

Abstract:
Women in Moriki delivered at home without skilled attendants. The study was to identify the factors influencing patronage of supervised delivery among women who had given birth in Moriki, Nigeria. A quantitative, cross-sectional design was used. A sample of 350 women was recruited using a multistage sampling technique. Structured questionnaires were administered. The 342 completed questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS Version 20. Women who were younger, educated, have few children, earning higher income, and whose husbands were educated were more likely to patronize supervised delivery. Therefore, midwives should liaise with the other health workers to design a program targeting women with high parity, uneducated women, and older women informing them about the relevance of supervised delivery.
