Abstract:
Martin Streda is a one-act monodrama for baritone and an ensemble of eight instrumentalists. The libretto was written by the composer. The drama concerns Martin Streda, a Czech political prisoner in a solitary confinement cell of a communist concentration camp on the eve of his death. The opera has a duration of approximately 30 minutes and is divided into four main parts. The analytical essay describes the development and operation of Mar-sys, a collection of twenty pitch aggregates derived from intervalic cells, rhythmic cells drawn from the Morse code alphabet, and other pitch organization systems.

Abstract:
Monodrama is a work for a sole protagonist, utilising both sung and spoken vocalism over a cathartic narrative. Developed as a subgenre of opera relatively recently, monodrama emerged in the era of Freudian psychology. Monodrama aims to convince the audience of the authority and infallibility of the protagonist’s point of view. An operatic monodrama rehearsal is a unique sociological dynamic, one that functions as a complex adaptive process with director, conductor and performer as principal agents. The effective functioning of this dynamic causes beneficial coherence, measurable by successful performance outcomes (Snowden, 2012). An interesting phenomenon is observed in monodrama rehearsals, divergent from traditionally hierarchical rehearsal dynamics found in opera. The singer has increased agency in rehearsal, effectively transforming the dynamic from a negotiation between stage director and conductor, as occurs in opera, into a collaboration of equal yet distinct roles. Director, conductor and performer form a triumvirate of mutual respect, exhibiting porous boundaries of roles and responsibilities (or linkages). Monodrama rehearsals comprise a series of “safe to fail” experiments, repeating acceptable patterns with mutual agreement of three principal participants (or nodes), and creating unique norms leading to successful performance. The relative agency of each participant in a rehearsal, changing notions of authorship, and the success of this complex collaboration are discussed in detail, showing the possibilities for adaptive rehearsal structures in a traditionally conservative art-form. Primary research is conducted through participation as director and singer in three monodrama production rehearsal periods: “Pierrot Lunaire” by Arnold Schoenberg, “The Seven Deadly Sins” by Kurt Weill, and “The Pomegranate Cycle” by Eve Klein. Industry professionals’ perceptions of the dynamics in monodrama and opera rehearsals are also studied through semi-structured interviews and surveys with thirteen subjects (N=13), four directors (D=4), four conductors (C=4) and five singers (P=5), considering self-reported “successful” performance in opera and monodrama. Both the performance practice research and qualitative research herein supports the hypothesis that a monodrama rehearsal is a collaborative triumvirate functioning as a complex adaptive system, contrasting with the power structures and dynamics commonly observed in opera rehearsals.

Abstract:
This study presents a work of theatre art in the form of an autobiographical monodrama, supported by three exegeses: a review of informing literature, one of the writing process, the third of the critical reactions to the play at different stages of its development by readers and audiences. The thesis considers the two questions, How can theatre depict my autobiography? and How can monodrama be used to express this autobiography? The first question implies an examination of the process of writing and producing an autobiography for the theatre. The second question is answered through the process that developed in this study towards the choice of the form of a monodrama. The methodology emerged as the play was written and a journal recorded. At times the approach, particularly as it affected the writing of the play, was more like action research in which the play was reacted to and then amended in a cyclical manner, the writer also developing new understandings in the process. The reflective process was used to help in understanding the development that was taking place. A survey, and interviews with audience members were conducted as part of the investigation once the artwork was presented. In addition, after the piece had been developed to the point of presentation, it was subjected to critical evaluation, The data from the audience assisted in the development of the artwork as well as developing an understanding of the research question and the possible answers or further questions. The Generic Exegesis arose out of the reading, and developed as an exegesis accompanying the writing of the play once the form of the play had clearly become a monodrama. The Generic Exegesis is designed to show background reading that has informed directly the writing and performing of the play, 'The Changeling'. A principal objective for writing the play developed from a desire to help others to understand something of the conflicts and dilemmas facing adoptees towards the search for self identity and its relationship to acting. Part of the conflict for an adopted person was crystallised in Derridas concept of erasure and the use of the trace to recognise the coexistence of both sides of a binary, which rationalised the splitting of the central character into the two traces, Dominic and Frank. My need for control of the outcome affected the selection from the autobiography, the development of some scenes, and was one of the reasons for the use of fiction. The data for the Process Exegesis came from the journal that was kept during the writing, production, performance and rewrites of the play. The role of the audience had emerged in the interview data and one of the interview questions asked what kind of audience the respondent thought the play suitable for. The Process Exegesis shows that part of the answer to the research question is arrived at through the systematic recording and analysis of the processes that were involved in the writing of the autobiographical play. These have shown that artistic worth was increased as a factor of the distance achieved. The Critical Exegesis showsthat the issues that the play addressed such as adoption and a search for identity were also perceived as important by the readers and the audience. Significant contributions to the development of the play were made by the Dramaturg (Dl) and some cogent points were made by a second dramaturg. The respondents who were interviewed reacted to the content of the play, namely adoption, identity and the issues associated with them, as well as the performance. This study investigates the processes of the development of an autobiographical performance from the generation of the script to the public presentation. It shows that theatre can artistically depict an autobiography and that the perceived appropriate contemporary theatre formis the monodrama. The main issue to be recognised as arising out of the play and the process is that the whole project has been a search for identity. That identity is defined in the range of characters portrayed in the play as well as the process of writing it. The outcome of the investigation was a piece of dramatic performance text that I had written and performed, accompanied by a critical commentary on the creation, production and reception processes.

Abstract:
This work studies how the spatial dimension is elaborated in six theatre plays produced between 2006 and 2016 by Palestinians and how these texts interact with the real space within which they unfold. Because of the strong constraints imposed on Palestinians’ mobility, the practice of territory embodies an experience. This alters the conditions and choices of production and theatre offers a space to tell this experience. In this body of texts, testimony takes center stage in the form of staged autobiography. The text therefore becomes a literary object, rather than a medium for memory. Self-narrative allows Palestinians to express their exiles in both geographic and psychological terms, by using the form of the monologue. In their stories, the characters are so affected by this experience of territory that they end up being conflated with the space they describe. The spatial dimension in the texts is elaborated from literary figures. The image of imprisonment expresses in a direct manner the links between text and reality. It participates in the questioning of the myth of Palestine that fills the texts of this decade. It is indeed in real and textual space that the identity dynamics of Palestinians are being built

Abstract:
In 1968, J. Milnor introduced the Picard-Lefschetz monodromy of a complex hypersurface with an isolated singularity. Subsequently, E. Brieskorn asked if this monodromy is always finite. In 1972, Lê Dúng Trâng proved that the answer is positive in the case of irreducible analytic germs of plane curves. At this time, examples of plane curves with two branches and finite monodromy were known. In 1973, N. A?Campo produced the first example of a germ of plane curve with two branches and infinite monodromy. Therefore, the simplest and still open problem in this context is to determine whether the monodromy of a plane curve with two branches is finite or infinite. The present work consists in determining, in several situations, the minimal polynomial of the monodromy for germs of plane analytic curves with two branches, whose genera are less or equal than two, wich allows us to decide its finiteness

Maslowski, Krystyna. "Le personnage dans le théâtre de Witold Gombrowicz." Paris 3, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008PA030079.

Full text
Abstract:
Theatricality is omnipresent in the whole of Witold Gombrowicz’s work. It is at the root of his dialectic of conventional form and immaturity ; it is the source of his vision of the artificial man - of the “man as actor”. Studying characters in his plays seems to be the best way of grasping, through the playwright’s characteristic approach, both the problematisation of his characters, as is typical in modern drama as a whole since the end of the 19th century, and the representation man has of himself in the desert of a meaningless world. Gombrowiczian characters reduced to voices, to silhouettes, or to grotesque creatures do not refer to “characters” any more. They are not the reflection of individualised human beings, or those with a psychological or moral dimension. As if spectral creatures, reflections of the exaggerated subjectivity of the protagonist, these puppets lead us into the polyphonic monodrama of man without God. But as the protagonist deforms the other characters by reducing them to mirror images, he is himself also deformed by them, as well as by the dramatic situation. It is clearly a “theatre of the ego” that echoes the theatre of the world, and also role-playing, the round of masks, and the never-ending distortion of “man as actor”. Nevertheless, in spite of the duels, the murders, the strategies of manipulation put on stage, these plays seem to invite the spectator-reader to the regeneration of a desire for brotherhood in man existing only towards and for man. In the end, they put forward, through the vehicle of their dramatic characters, the playful celebration of human theatricality, of man in his relationship with others, and of man as the subject of modern rhapsody

Abstract:

Davey, Robert Michael. "SMJ analysis of monodromy fields." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1988. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/184357.

Abstract:
The connection discovered by M. Sato, T. Miwa and M. Jimbo (SMJ) between the monodromy-preserving deformation theory of the two-dimensional Euclidean Dirac operator and quantum fields is rigorously established for the case of nonreal S¹ monodromy parameters. This connection involves the expression of the associated n-point functions in terms of solutions to deformation equations which arise as necessary conditions for the monodromy exhibited by a class of multivalued solutions of the Euclidean Dirac equation to be preserved under perturbations of branch points. Our approach utilizes recent results involving infinite-dimensional group representations. A lattice version of the n-point function is introduced as a section of a determinant bundle defined over an infinite dimensional Grassmannian. A trivialization for this bundle is singled out so that the corresponding n-point functions behave like Ising correlations in the massive scaling regime. Then the SMJ n-point functions are recovered as the scaled functions. A parallel scaling analysis is carried out with lattice analogues of the Euclidean Dirac wave functions which scale to square-integrable multivalued solutions of the Euclidean Dirac equation and the connection between the SMJ deformation theory and the n-point functions is rigorously established in terms of local Fourier expansion coefficients of these wave functions. These results are presented in detail for two-point functions with the same monodromy associated to each site.

Abstract:
The study of singular points in planar analytic vector fields is a problem almost completely solved. The only case that remains open is the monodromic one, in which the orbits turn around the singularity. In analytic differential systems, if p is a monodromic singular point, then p is either a center or a focus. The center-focus problem consists in determining conditions for distinguishing between a center and a focus. The main purpose of this work is the investigation of the center-focus problem in analytic differential systems with nilpotent singular points. This problem is still widely studied, since there is no algorithm for such case, comparable to the Lyapunov method for the case of non-degenerate singularities. We studied two different methods. The first makes use of the normal form theory and deals with the problem in the classic way, splitting it up in two parts: the investigation of the monodromy and the study of the stability. The latter investigates the differential analytic systems with nilpotent singular points as limit of differential systems with nondegenerate singularities. In order to evaluate the efficiency and understand possible obstructions, we applied the two techniques to concrete families of differential systems

Abstract:
A system is said to have monodromy if, when we carry the system around a closed circuit, it does not return to its initial state. The simplest example is the square-root function in the complex plane. A Hamiltonian system is said to have Hamiltonian monodromy if its fundamental action-angle loops do not return to their initial topological state at the end of a closed circuit. These changes in topology of angle loops carry through to other aspects of these systems, including the classical dynamics of families of trajectories, quantum spectra and even wavefunctions. This topological change in the evolution of a loop of classical trajectories has been observed experimentally for the rst time, using an apparatus consisting of a spherical pendulum subject to magnetic potentials and torques. Presented in this dissertation are the details of this experiment, as well as theoretical calculations on a novel system: a double welled Mexican-hat system with two monodromy points. This is part of a more general research program that is concerned with the Lagrangian torus bration of the phase spaces of integrable Hamiltonian systems. It is in this way the calculations on the double welled system are carried out. in this dissertation, static and dynamical manifestations of monodromy are shown to exist for this system. It has been shown previously that corresponding topological changes occur in wavefunctions of systems with monodromy. Here it is shown that results of quantum wavefunction monodomy carry over intuitively.

Abstract:
One of the most important tools to study the geometry of irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds is the monodromy group. The first part of this dissertation concerns the construction and studyof monodromy operators on irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds which are deformation equivalent to the 10-dimensional example constructed by O'Grady. The second part uses the knowledge of the monodromy group to compute the number of connected components of moduli spaces of bothmarked and polarised irreducible holomorphic symplectic manifolds which are deformationequivalent to generalised Kummer varieties.

Abstract:
In classical mechanics, one of the advanced topics is the study of action and angle variables. These variables are quite abstract, but very powerful tools for describing classical motion. If a system has a full set of conservation laws, and if the motion of the system is bounded, then the motion can be described as flow on a torus. Action variables are functions of the conservation laws that identify the torus on which the motion lies, while angle variables tell the location of the system on that torus. In certain cases, the functional relationship between the conservation laws and the action variables has singular points, and these singular points can cause the action variables to become multivalued functions. These multivalued action variables have surprising topological and dynamical consequences. Which become visible when we follow the evolution of a family of trajectories in a system having multivalued action variables under the influence externally applied forces: a loop of particles evolves smoothly to a topologically different loop. We call this phenomenon Dynamical Hamiltonian Monodromy. This thesis reports the first experimental observation of Dynamical Hamiltonian Monodromy. A spherical pendulum controlled by magnetic forces was used to generate a topological change in a family of pendulum trajectories. It then explores application of this theory to an optical system and determines the index of refraction of a light pipe that similarly will produce the topological change connected with Hamiltonian Monodromy.

Integrable Hamiltonian systems are said to display nontrivial monodromy if fundamental action-angle loops defined on phase-space tori change their topological structure when the system is carried around a circuit. It was shown in earlier work that this topological change can be seen in families of trajectories of noninteracting particles; however, that work required use of a very abstract flow in phase space. In this dissertation, we show that the same topological change can occur as a result of application of ordinary forces. We also show how this dynamical phenomenon could be observed experimentally in cold atom systems. Almost everything that happens in classical mechanics also shows up in quantum mechanics when we know where to look for it. In the latter half of the dissertation, we show a corresponding change in quantum wave functions: these wave functions change their topological structure in the same way that the action and angle loops change. Also the probability current associated with this wave function follows the angle loop, changing its winding number from 0 to -1.

Abstract:
The main object of study is the theory of Schrödinger operators with meromorphic potentials, having trivial monodromy in the complex domain. In the first part we study the spectral properties of a class of such operators related to the classical Whittaker-Hill equation (-d^2/dx^2+Acos2x+Bcos4x)Ψ=λΨ. The equation, for special choices of A and B, is known to have the remarkable property that half of the gaps eventually become closed (semifinite-gap operator). Using the Darboux transformation we construct new trigonometric examples of semifinite-gap operators with real, smooth potentials. A similar technique applied to the Lamé operator gives smooth, real, finite-gap potentials in terms of classical Jacobi elliptic functions. In the second part we study the singular locus of monodromy-free potentials in the complex domain. A particular case is given by the zeros of Wronskians of Hermite polynomials, which are studied in detail. We introduce a class of partitions (doubled partitions) for which we observe a direct qualitative relationship between the pattern of zeros and the shape of the corresponding Young diagram. For the Wronskians W(H_n,H_{n+k}) we give an asymptotic formula for the curve on which zeros lie as n → ∞. We also give some empirical formulas for asymptotic behaviour of zeros of Wronskians of 3 and 4 Hermite polynomials. In the last chapter we apply the theory of monodromy-free operators to produce new vortex equilibria in the periodic case and in the presence of background flow.

Abstract:
In this thesis, we study the compatibility between local and global Langlands correspondences for \(GL_n\). This generalizes the compatibility between local and global class field theory and is related to deep conjectures in algebraic geometry and harmonic analysis, such as the Ramanujan-Petersson conjecture and the weight monodromy conjecture. Let L be a CM field. We consider the case when \(\Pi\) is a cuspidal automorphic representation of \(GL_n(\mathbb{A}_L^\infty)\), which is conjugate self-dual and regular algebraic. Under these assumptions, there is an l-adic Galois representation \(R_l(\Pi)\) associated to \(\Pi\), which is known to be compatible with the local Langlands correspondence in most cases (for example, when n is odd) and up to semisimplification in general. In this thesis, we complete the proof of the compatibility when \(l \neq p\) by identifying the monodromy operator N on both the local and the global sides. On the local side, the identification amounts to proving the Ramanujan-Petersson conjecture for \(\Pi\) as above. On the global side it amounts to proving the weight-monodromy conjecture for part of the cohomology of a certain Shimura variety.

Cataloged from the official PDF of thesis.
Includes bibliographical references (pages 93-97).
This thesis consists of three independent parts. The first part studies arboreal representations of Galois groups - an arithmetic dynamics analogue of Tate modules - and proves some large image results, in particular confirming a conjecture of Odoni. Given a field K, a separable polynomial [mathematical expression], and an element [mathematical expression], the full backward orbit [mathematical expression] has a natural action of the Galois group [mathematical expression]. For a fixed [mathematical expression] with [mathematical expression] and for most choices of t, the orbit [mathematical expression] has the structure of complete rooted [mathematical expression]. The Galois action on [mathematical expression] thus defines a homomorphism [mathematical expression]. The map [mathematical expression] is the arboreal representation attached to f and t.
In analogy with Serre's open image theorem, one expects [mathematical expression] to hold for most f, t, but until very recently for most degrees d not a single example of a degree d polynomial [mathematical expression] with surjective [mathematical expression],t was known. Among other results, we construct such examples in all sufficiently large even degrees. The second part concerns monodromy of hyperplane section of curves. Given a geometrically integral proper curve [mathematical expression], consider the generic hyperplane [mathematical expression]. The intersection [mathematical expression] is the spectrum of a finite separable field extension [mathematical expression] of degree [mathematical expression]. The Galois group [mathematical expression] is known as the sectional monodromy group of X. When char K = 0, the group [mathematical expression] equals [mathematical expression] for all curves X.
This result has numerous applications in algebraic geometry, in particular to the degree-genus problem. However, when char K > 0, the sectional monodromy groups can be smaller. We classify all nonstrange nondegenerate curves [mathematical expression], for [mathematical expression] such that [mathematical expression]. Using similar methods we also completely classify Galois group of generic trinomials, a problem studied previously by Abhyankar, Cohen, Smith, and Uchida. In part three of the thesis we derive bounds for the number of [mathematical expression]-points on simple abelian varieties over finite fields; these improve upon the Weil bounds. For example, when q = 3, 4 the Weil bound gives [ .. ] for all abelian varieties A. We prove that [mathematical expression], [mathematical expression] hold for all but finitely many simple abelian varieties A (with an explicit list of exceptions).

Abstract:
In this thesis, we give an explicit computation of the monodromy representations of "cyclotomic" analogs of the Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov differential system. These are representations of the type B braid group B_n1. We show how the representations of the braid group B_n obtained using quantum groups and universal R-matrices may be enhanced to representations of B_n1 using dynamical twists. Then, we show how these "algebraic" representations may be identified with the above "analytic" monodromy representations

Abstract:
In this work, several problems in the field of Hamiltonian dynamics are studied. Chapter 1 is a short review of some basic results in the theory of Hamiltonian dynamics. In chapter 2, we study the problem of computing the geometric monodromy of the torus bundle defined by integrable Hamiltonian systems. We show that for two degree of freedom systems near an isolated critical value of the energy momentum map, the monodromy group can be determined solely from the local data of the energy momentum map at the singularity. Along the way, we develop a simple method for computing the monodromy group which covers all the known examples that exhibit nontrivial monodromy. In chapter 3, we consider the topological aspects of the Kirchhoff case of the motion of a symmetric rigid body in an infinite ideal fluid. The bifurcation diagrams are constructed and the topology of all the invariant sets are determined. We show that this system has monodromy. We show also that this system undergoes a Hamiltonian Hopf bifurcation as the couple resultant passes through a certain value when the steady rotation of the rigid body about its symmetry axis changes stability. Chapter 4 is devoted to checking Kolmogorov's condition for the square potential pendulum. We prove, by essentially elementary methods, that Kolmogorov's condition is satisfied for all of the regular values of the energy momentum map. In chapter 5, we use Ziglin's theorem to prove rigorously that some of the generalized two degree of freedom Toda lattices are non-integrable.

Abstract:
In this thesis we consider three-dimensional dynamical systems in the neighbourhood of a singular point with rank-one and rank-two resonant eigenvalues. We first introduce and generalize here a new technique extending previous work which was described by Aziz an Christopher (2012), where a second first integral of a 3D system can be found if the system has a Darboux-analytic first integral and an inverse Jacobi multiplier. We use this new technique to find two independent first integrals one of which contains logarithmic terms, allowing for non-zero resonant terms in the formal normal form of vector field. We also consider sufficient conditions for the existence of one analytic first integral for three dimensional vector fields around a singularity. Starting from the generalized Lotka-Volterra system with rank-one resonant eigenvalues, using the normal form method, we find an inverse Jacobi multiplier of the system under suitable conditions. Moreover, these conditions are sufficient conditions for the existence of one analytic first integral of the system. We apply this to demonstrate the sufficiency of the conditions in Aziz and Christopher (2014). In the case of two-dimensional systems, Christopher et al (2003) addressed the question of orbital normalizability, integrability, normalizability and linearizability of a complex differential system in the neighbourhood at a critical point. We here address the question of normalizability, orbital normalizability, and integrability of three-dimensional systems in the neighbourhood at the origin for rank-one resonance system. We consider the case when the eigenvalues of three-dimensional systems have rank-one resonance satisfying the condition the sum of eigenvalues is equal to zero a typical example, and we use a further change of coordinates to bring the formal normal form for three-dimensional systems into a reduced normal form which contains a finite number of resonant monomials. By using this technique, we can find two independent first integrals formally. The first one of these first integrals is of Darboux-analytic type, and other first integral contains logarithmic terms corresponding to non-zero resonant monomials of the original system. We introduce the monodromy map in three-dimensional vector fields by using these two independent first integrals to study a relationship between normalizability and integrability of systems. In the case of rank-one resonant eigenvalues, we get a monodromy map which is in normal form, and then in the same way as the case of vector fields, we use a further change of coordinates to reduce this map into a reduced map which contains only a finite number of resonant monomials. This thesis also examines briefly the case of rank-two resonant eigenvalues of three-dimensional systems. The normal form in this case contains an infinite number of resonant monomials, we were not able to find a reduced normal form with a finite number of resonant monomials. This situation is therefore much more complex than the rank-one case. Thus, we simplify the investigation by truncating the 3D system to a 3D homogeneous cubic system as a first step to understanding the general case. Even though we can find two independent first integrals, the second one involves the hypergeometric function, leading to some interesting topics for further investigation.

Further analytical approaches are studied for theories with defects. Anomalous dimensions for bulk- and defect-local fields as well as one of the OPE coefficients are found to the first loop order. Abstract:
This thesis is subdivided in two parts. In the first part, we introduce a new condition, called toric-additivity, on a family of abelian varieties degenerating to a semi-abelian scheme over a normal crossing divisor. The condition depends only on the Tate module TlA(Ksep) of the generic fibre, for a prime l invertible on the base. We show that toric-additivity is a sufficient condition for the existence of a Néron model if the base is a Q-scheme. In the case of the jacobian of a smooth curve with semi-stable reduction, we obtain the same result without assumptions on the base characteristic; and we show that toric-additivity is also necessary for the existence of a Néron model, when the base is a Q-scheme. In the second part, we consider the case of a family of nodal curves over a discrete valuation ring, having split singularities. We say that such a family is semi factorial if every line bundle on the generic fibre extends to a line bundle on the total space. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for semi- factoriality, in terms of combinatorics of the dual graph of the special fibre. In particular, we show that performing one blow-up with center the non regular closed points yields a semi-factorial model of the generic fibre. As an application, we extend the result of Raynaud relating Néron models of smooth curves and Picard functors of their regular models to the case of nodal curves having a semi-factorial model

Abstract:
Monodromy fields on I3 are a family of lattice fields in two dimensions which are a natural generalisation of the two dimensional Ising field occurring in the C*-algebra approach to Statistical Mechanics. A criterion for the critical limit one point correlation of the monodromy field tra(M) at a 6 l3, Um(#.(M)). is deduced for matrices M € GL(p, C) having non-negative eigenvalues. Using this criterion a non-identity 2x2 matrix is found with a finite critical limit one point correlation. The general set of p x p matrices with finite critical limit one point correlations is also considered and a conjecture for the critical limit n point correlations postulated. The boson-fermion correspondence for the representation of the CAR algebra over L3(Sl, C) defined by the (t,B) KMS state with chemical potential p is considered and the non-bijectivity shown. Using an alternative formulation the correlations are recalculated leading to a determinant identity reminiscent of Saego’s Theorem.

Infante, Vargas Carlos Alonso. "Ciclos algebraicos y reducción semiestable." Doctoral thesis, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10803/3094.

Full text
Abstract:
In this memory we study the Chow groups of a smooth and projective variety over a complete field through the study of the cycle morphism. Concretely, we construct a morphism, the so called reduction morphism (see def. 4.2.1), with domain in the Chow's groups of the variety and image into one quotient of the Chow's groups of its reduction. Differently to the l-adic cycle morphism, this morphism does not depend on the prime number l. (lemma 4.3.3) and permits the description of the image of the l-adic cycle morphism for varieties with totally degenerate reduction (see def. 5.2.1 and theorem 5.4.4).
There are two basic ideas in this memory: The first consists in working with varieties with strictly semi-stable reduction (see def. 3.2.2) and from combinations of the Chow's groups of the components of the reduction variety construct Z-structures and operators over them. The second idea consists in the ralationship of this operators over the Z-structures with the monodromy associated to the cohomology of the variety.
The existence of one no-trivial monodromy is a particularity of the varieties with totally degenerate reduction.
Proposition 5.6.8 gives us the descomposition of the monodromy operator over the the Rham cohomology.
Finally, the memory ends with a chapter dedicated to the application of the theory to
the analytic torus and the product of Mumford's curves.

Abstract:
The two dimensional persistent homology, that can be reduced to the homology of a family of parameterized real functions, can be found to have some issues due to a phenomenon of monodromy, which happens when a loop in the parameters' space doesn't translate into loops of the elements of the persistent diagram. Instead they switch place between them in a functorial way. In this paper we present a formalisation of this functor and we will make an use of it, representing an arbitrary symmetric group by means of a suitable filtering function.
