Abstract:

In the last fifty years, there has been a concern in the theatre world especially in Europe, about how to train actors to be open and responsive. One of the most respected and well-known teachers in this area is Monika Pagneux who taught for many years in Paris and now aged in her seventies, works as a freelance artist around the world. Her area of expertise is movement for actors. The aim of her work is to develop not only a responsive body but also an open and alive actor who is able to be creative in a disciplined yet risk-taking manner. This thesis is an investigation of the world of Monika Pagneux, including her fundamental principles and platforms of teaching movement for actors. A portrait of her work will be drawn and her influence on other performing arts practitioners. The data comes from three sources: my own field notes based on six weeks of classes in Australia and Paris, additional class notes by a movement expert and ten responses to an open ended questionnaire by former students. Their answers provide insights into the impact of her teaching professionally, in their lives and how they were transformed by her practice.

Abstract:

This research presents a computational study of the dynamics of molecules in pure liquids, as well as its extension to the dynamics of water molecules associated with biological macromolecules. The results presented in this study advance the fundamental understanding of how molecules in liquids behave. The results presented also provide new insights into Magnetic Resonance Imaging properties of collagenous connective tissues, with applications in experimental and clinical radiology.

The main purpose of this study is to analyse reader reception in Finland and Sweden of Monika Fagerholm´s novel Glitterscenen (The glitter scene). Fagerholm (b. 1961) is a well-known author both in Finland and Sweden. Glitterscenen, her sixth novel, published in September 2009, was eagerly awaited in both countries as a successor to her earlier prize-winning novel Den amerikanska flickan (The American girl). A second aim is to compare press reviews in Finland and Sweden. The empirical material for the study comprised 25 press rewievs, of which 12 were published in Finnish, and 13 in Swedish newspapers. Usually, press rewiews consist of tree sections: description, interpretation and evaluation. In this study, analysis followed the structure of the press reviews. The analysis also partly reflects previous researsh on Finnish literature´s reader reception in Sweden. In general, reviewers in Finland and Sweden have similar approaches to describing, interpreting and evaluating Fagerholm’s novel. Reviewers describe the novel’s background, genre, story line and language. However the originality of Fagerholm´s writing makes it difficult for many reviewers to describe it. Reviewers refer first of all to Fagerholm’s former novels, but also to Swedish authors, movies and music. Their interpretation is that Glitterscenen portrays a teenage girls’world. According to the reviewers, Fagerholm has positively renewed the traditional narrative literature.The main purpose of this study is to analyse reader reception in Finland and Sweden of Monika Fagerholm´s novel Glitterscenen (The glitter scene). According to the reviewers, Fagerholm has positively renewed the traditional narrative literature.The main purpose of this study is to analyse reader reception in Finland and Sweden of Monika Fagerholm´s novel Glitterscenen (The glitter scene). Fagerholm (b. 1961) is a well-known author both in Finland and Sweden. Glitterscenen, her sixth novel, published in September 2009, was eagerly awaited in both countries as a successor to her earlier prize-winning novel Den amerikanska flickan (The American girl). A second aim is to compare press reviews in Finland and Sweden. The empirical material for the study comprised 25 press rewievs, of which 12 were published in Finnish, and 13 in Swedish newspapers. Usually, press rewiews consist of tree sections: description, interpretation and evaluation. In this study, analysis followed the structure of the press reviews. The analysis also partly reflects previous researsh on Finnish literature´s reader reception in Sweden. In general, reviewers in Finland and Sweden have similar approaches to describing, interpreting and evaluating Fagerholm’s novel. Reviewers describe the novel’s background, genre, story line and language. However the originality of Fagerholm´s writing makes it difficult for many reviewers to describe it. Reviewers refer first of all to Fagerholm’s former novels, but also to Swedish authors, movies and music. Their interpretation is that Glitterscenen portrays a teenage girls’world. According to the reviewers, Fagerholm has positively renewed the traditional narrative literature.
