Abstract:
AbstractObjective:Our objective was to review how meditation could comfort the terminally ill.Method:Our methodology was a literature search, which included books, journals, papers in collections, and online databases. The main search engines employed were Google Scholar and the Durham University Library. The main databases consulted were the Christian Meditation Centre, Project Meditation, and Stress-Related Facts and Well-Being at Monash. We were specifically interested in data acquired from clinical and nonclinical trials. The arguments needed to be based on qualitative and quantitative scientific data. Papers were published between 1985 and 2014. We then subdivided the review into three subcategories: physical, emotional, and self-awareness. When reviewing each category, we put our results into tabular form. In each table, we noted the percentage of terminally ill patients (TIPs) and non-terminally ill patients (NTIPs), and whether meditation had comforted them. Results:Our review demonstrated that there are many areas that have yet to be researched. First, very little work has been done on how meditation affects the physical health of TIPs, including such variables as blood pressure, chronic pain, and sleeping patterns. However, no research has been done on heart disease, hypertension, depression, among others. Second, virtually no research has been conducted on how meditation affects the mental health of TIPs. Notably neglected areas include anxiety, compliance, depression, and stress. Third, no research has been done on whether meditation increases self-awareness in TIPs. In each of these cases, most NTIPs reacted positively; however, no research has been done on why TIPs reacted differently.Significance of Results:Our results demonstrate the need for further research on how meditation affects terminally ill patients. In turn, this would enrich the debate on whether meditation should be prescribed for the dying.

Abstract:
Collection development at Monash University Library aims to fulfil the research and curriculum needs of university staff and students. To support the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (MADA), collection development operates as a collaboration between academic faculty and the Subject Librarian. In order to further develop this collaboration and to encourage the selection and use of design resources by authors from diverse backgrounds, design lecturers and library staff have initiated The Equity Collection project. The aim of the project is to investigate the diversity of the collection in its current state and to improve its ability to reflect and extend the multicultural nature of the university community. The project includes a campaign to collect and promote books from the design world authored by under-represented groups, including Indigenous Australians, people of colour, and female and non-binary authors. This project is unique in its utilisation of the expertise of the design faculty who have extensive knowledge of authors, small publishers and less widely distributed publications.

Abstract:
Technology enhanced learning has become one of the dominant modes of teaching and learning in higher education today. Indeed, it seems that no higher education institution can survive without embracing the new educational technologies that have come to define teaching and learning in the knowledge era. E-learning as such, has become one of the dominant forms of delivering teaching and learning content. Rooted in established pedagogical foundations, e-learning adopts the constructivist approach to teaching and learning which attributes the construction of knowledge to learner experiences. Thus learners construct their own understanding and knowledge through interaction with others. As universities adopt the e-learning approach, libraries are also forced to find ways to deliver their content in ways and in platforms where the new generation of students interact. The focus of this research is to find out how Monash University Library has risen to the challenge of integrating its vast resources and services through the medium of e-learning, especially pertaining to the delivery of Information Research and Learning Skills (IRLS). The research aims to find out what the challenges, strengths and limitations are in this mode of information and content delivery. But the most pertinent question the study seeks to answer is “What is the effectiveness of e-learning in the provision of IRLS”. The results of the study culminate in a few suggestions by the researcher which could be employed to better assess the effectiveness of e-learning in IRLS.

Abstract:
This thesis reports findings from a survey comparing the use of internal and external information services by business persons in the City of Brisbane. The Business Information: an investigation of its sources and use survey was undertaken on behalf of Queensland University of Technology (QUT) Library's Expert Information Service. The study made steps towards the understanding of not only where information is currently sourced, but also why business people prefer the services they currently use to source their information needs. The study has corroborated previous studies into business people's use of information resources and has achieved a better understanding of information use patterns and the potential future role of libraries and library based Fee Based Information Service (FBIS) units. Comparative case studies were undertaken to understand the Australian FBIS environment. FBIS's have developed within the Australian library environment to serve the information needs of business people. They have also developed out of a drive to provide income generation, independent of government funding, for the library that establishes the FBIS. Libraries and FBIS units have resources and expertise of potential value to business people; however, business people still lack an awareness of available information services and resources in general, and specifically in libraries or FBIS units. The main findings of this survey are that: (1) Architects and Small Business Managers are primary markets for FBIS units; (2) The main sources of information currently accessed to make business decisions are internal information services and professional associations; (3) External information service units are favoured for their ability to provide information searching and patents & standards access; (4) The Internet is currently used more than any other electronic form of information resource and an increase is expected in daily and weekly use; (5) Information overload and a lack of time to search for information are major concerns to business people; (6) The majority of respondents have never used a library based FBIS; and (7) Almost 50% of business people report that they have difficulty with not having a budget to acquire information and approximately 35% have no authority to purchase information. Overall the findings suggest that FBIS units should aim to understand the commercial paradigm, providing accurate, timely and up-to-date information for their clients in the most convenient and specific manner possible. The research findings suggest a number of implications for practice for FBIS units, as well as for libraries in Australia.

Nine case studies were undertaken in 1998 to explore the current planning strategies and data related to information technology in mid-to-large size university libraries in Taiwan. Methods used include: on-site investigation, staff interviews, and student questionnaires. Study showed that changes are evident in terms of size requirements and the actual use situation in (1) stack area, (2) reading area, (3) and stuff area under the influence of information Technology. Findings include: (1) The flexibility and extendibility of space are constrained by the use of IT because it’s requirement of cabling and air-conditioning. New methods of zoning spaces are essential in future planning in order to achieve a economical flexible space. (2) Student space-use pattern is changing in different areas under the influence of internet. Collection-related activities are widely influenced where their frequency of visit declined, while non-collection-related activities remained basically unaffected. (3) The IT-related spaces, i.e. multi-media center and CD-ROM room etc., in libraries are low-utilized areas (except OPAC area). Therefore, the unification and relocation of these spaces in order to draw readers in are an important issue for libraries. (4) New space planning norms for reader’s area and staff area are suggested as well as recommendations for further applications. It is also recommended that further surveys are necessary to monitor the rapid change of information technology and it’s influence on university libraries.

The urbanization process increases artificial surfaces and less natural vegetation, decreases the albedo, increases metabolic heat and energy consumption, resulting in heat island effect. Pavements are found to be a significant contributor to the Urban Heat Island. Cool pavements and vegetation are suggested as a strategy to mitigate heat island effect bycooling the environment and saving energy. The purpose of this study is to discover the effect of different types of permeable pavement and different pavement area covering the building on air and wall temperature, building‘s cooling energy consumption, and the costs comparison of permeable pavements with conventional paving materials. Four types of pavement (dense grade asphalt pavement/DGAC, permeable asphalt pavement/PAC, concrete, grass block/ GB, and permeable interlocking concrete block/PICB)from Xindian are used in simulation. Xindian site measurement is conducted to collect meteorological and pavement surface temperature data. Statistical analysis is used to find the correlation between variables and to develop the pavement surface temperature model applied on National Central University (NCU) main library as the case study for the simulations using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation package in DesignBuilder. The result is further used in the building energy consumption simulations using EnergyPlus in DesignBuilder, and then used to calculate the cost. The result shows DGAC gives the highest temperature and impact on the outdoor and indoor temperature, and also increases cooling energy consumption. Analysis results showed differences caused by using permeable pavements or by increasing vegetation area. Utilizing permeable pavement can decrease energy consumption 0.170% (PAC) until 0.735% (GB) per year. And vegetation also can decrease 0.944%-1.132% per year. Even permeable installation cost is higher than DGAC (PAC 53.2%, GB 86.4%, PI 46.4%), energy efficiency cost make it cheaper. The total cost differences with DGAC is just 2.319% for PAC, 3.490% for GB, and 1.700% for PI.

AbstractThis chapter describes three of the pedagogical frameworks that comprise the Models of Engaged Learning and Teaching (Willison, J. (2017). The Models of Engaged Learning and Teaching (MELT); Willison, J. (2020). The models of engaged learning and teaching: Connecting sophisticated thinking from early childhood to PhD. Springer). Monash University Library (MUL) adopted the MELT to underpin its teaching practice and guide library–faculty teaching collaborations. The MELT include the Research Skill Development (RSD) framework (Willison, J., & O'Regan, K. (2006/2018). Research skill development framework), the Work Skill Development (WSD) framework (Bandaranaike, S., & Willison, J. (2009/2018). Revised by Monash University Library, 2019. Work skill development framework; Revised by Monash University Library 2019) and the Digital Skill Development (DSD) framework (Torres, L., McLeod, A., Yazbeck, B., Rayner, G., Skrbis, M., Yates, S., Dickson, N., & Fulton, H. (2018). Digital skill development framework). The MELT have proved effective and adaptable in a range of disciplines and learning contexts by describing not only what students’ research, work and digital skills are but how they can be explicitly developed as a critical part of learning. Successful application of these models has strengthened and maximised the effectiveness of library–faculty teaching collaborations. This has enabled the library to remain responsive to contemporary skill agendas and as such, catalysed transformative change by repositioning the Library as a key contributor to student learning.

Abstract:
AbstractIntegral experiments on critical irradiation of neuptium-237 (237Np) and americium-241 (241Am) foils are carried out in a hard spectrum core at KUCA with the use of the back-to-back fission chamber, and Monte Carlo calculations together with a reference nuclear data library are conducted for confirming the precision of numerical simulations. Subcritical irradiation of minor actinide (MA) by ADS is a very important step, before operating actual ADS facilities, in a critical assembly at zero power, such as KUCA, which is an exclusive facility for ADS that comprises a uranium-235 (235U) fueled core and a 100 MeV proton accelerator. The first significant attempt is made to demonstrate the principle of nuclear transmutation of MA by ADS through the injection of high-energy neutrons into the KUCA core at a subcritical state. Here, the main targets of nuclear transmutation of MA by the ADS experiments are fission reactions of 237Np and 241Am, and capture reactions of 237Np.

The Maldives National University Library is the main academic library and the one and only university library in the small island developing state of the Maldives. The library is made up of seven branch libraries and caters to the university community located in Malé and three smaller campuses in the outer regions of the country. This chapter attempts to demonstrate the swift developmental milestones taken by the library. It also outlines the challenges in managing the library at an acceptable level to the academic community needs, given the shortage of human resources, financial resources, and lack of local information sources. Presenting this information to the international community, as shared experience for other similar developing countries, is one of the motivating factors in writing this chapter.

Abstract:
This book is about the professions and the systems and people that will replace them. Our focus is on doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants, tax advisers, management consultants, architects, journalists, and the clergy (amongst others), on the organizations in which they work, and the institutions that govern their conduct. Our main claim is that we are on the brink of a period of fundamental and irreversible change in the way that the expertise of these specialists is made available in society. Technology will be the main driver of this change. And, in the long run, we will neither need nor want professionals to work in the way that they did in the twentieth century and before. There is growing evidence that a transformation is already under way. More people signed up for Harvard’s online courses in a single year, for example, than have attended the actual university in its 377 years of existence. In the same spirit, there are a greater number of unique visits each month to the WebMD network, a collection of health websites, than to all the doctors working in the United States. In the legal world, three times as many disagreements each year amongst eBay traders are resolved using ‘online dispute resolution’ than there are lawsuits filed in the entire US court system. On its sixth birthday, the Huffington Post had more unique monthly visitors than the website of the New York Times, which is almost 164 years of age. The British tax authorities use a fraud-detection system that holds more data than the British Library (which has copies of every book ever published in the UK). In 2014 the US tax authorities received electronic tax returns from almost 48 million people who had used online tax preparation software rather than a tax professional to help them. At WikiHouse, an online community designed a house that could be ‘printed’ and assembled for less than £50,000 (built successfully in London during September 2014). The architectural firm Gramazio & Kohler used a group of autonomous flying robots to assemble a structure out of 1,500 bricks.

The main aim of this chapter is to create awareness among the researchers about online database resources and to promote effective access to electronic products. A well-equipped and well managed library is the foundation of modern education structure. It is said that education without library services is like a body without soul, a vehicle without and engine, and building with bricks but no cement. The library is the chief instrument for accumulating and using our intellectual heritage. This research work will bring out tremendous changes in the working style of the libraries. University library is a way of making educational and research data and information available to faculty, researchers, students, and others at the institutions and worldwide. A well-structured questionnaire was employed to test the variables using statistical tools.

In the spring of 2019, the Montana State University (MSU) Library embarked on a large-scale inventory project that involved weeding and moving portions of their collection to an offsite storage facility within six months in order to create more student study space in the Library. The department primarily responsible for leading the project, Collections Access & Technical Services, the result of two departments merging, was also simultaneously navigating their new structure and a remodel of their workspace thus adding further challenges to the project. This poster session demonstrated how MSU Library approached and completed this project by advocating to their Library Administration for additional resources, including hiring a project manager and third-party companies to assist with the inventory and moving of the collection. It also discussed the types of work groups formed to identify new workflows (i.e., retrieval of offsite items) and modify existing ones, involving student employees in the project, and internal and external collaborations that took place. Additionally, presenters shared strategies used to communicate to their campus community, and the impact this project has had on our patrons. They also included statistics that were gathered during the project including deselection figures, the number of materials that did not have barcodes and were not accounted for in the Library’s catalog and discovery layer (Ex Libris’ Alma and Primo), and what subject areas currently remain in the main library building.

Abstract:
A new dual-campus subject librarian program is being rolled out at the University of Central Florida (UCF) whereby several subject librarians divide their time between two campuses, the legacy main campus in East Orlando and the new Downtown Orlando Campus. As of Fall 2019, four UCF subject librarians regularly travel to the new Downtown Campus to provide library support for academic programs, faculty, and students who recently relocated to the new facility. Dual-campus subject librarians are also maintaining support services for their assigned academic programs that remain at the UCF Main Campus. This article provides information and reflections about how the dual-campus subject librarian model operates and how it impacts staff duties from two perspectives. The first perspective is from the UCF Social Sciences subject librarian, who supports graduate and undergraduate programs in The School of Public Administration and Public Affairs graduate programs at the Downtown Campus, as well as graduate and undergraduate programs in Politics, Security & International Affairs and Criminal Justice at the Main Campus. The second perspective is from the Main Campus Head of the Research and Information Services Department, who supervises the dual-campus subject librarians.

Abstract:
Remote storage for large collections is becoming common, making those books inaccessible for physical browsing by researchers. The main libraries at Temple University and the University of Central Florida (UCF) each have approximately 1.3 million print items on-site. Both libraries are storing 90% of their collections in automated retrieval systems with 10% remaining available for browsing in open stacks. In Part 1, “Choosing What Shows,” Karen Kohn, Temple’s Collection Analysis Librarian, describes the decisions and processes used for the 10% left physically visible. This second part explores UCF’s efforts to improve discoverability of the items in storage. The visual aspects of a book (height, multi-volume, etc.) that often provide useful clues regarding the content disappear when the patron can only view a list of search results on a computer screen. How can the loss of these visual clues be mitigated? Online browsing guides have been created at UCF to help researchers explore the hierarchical subject structure of call numbers. Other finding tools and displays may also improve awareness of stored materials.

Abstract:
Even with the amount of information that is diffused nowadays over the internet it is undeniable that the books in paper format are still a valuable source of knowledge either because they are often a reliable source or because the paper gives us a sensation that a screen does not give. Having said that, it is essential that a library not only publishes on the internet all the available books but also ensures good management for all that knowledge source. That is how this research and project comes up, a compilation of library standards for its management from the cataloguing of the books to its physical display in the library, as well as the automatization of all that standards. This study and the application of its results were done in a small library, Centro de Camões that complements the Department of Humanities of Marie Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Poland. It used the Agile software engineering methodology, a light, efficient and low risk way of development. User stories were used as an approach that promotes essentially the user’s point of view in the solution, i.e lead the team to think, question and perceive what they are developing. The main features of the automatization and management system are the cataloging with a book online search script by ISBN that returns the vital intel of a book, a website that shares with the users all the bibliography available and a books manager, also includes a requisitions manager that allows warnings to the library and users. The framework used was Django, a high-level Python Web framework. On it, we apply technologies like channels, Web sockets and all the fundamental guidelines of Web development. Therefore, this article is a jump start for those who want either implement a similar solution in a library or want to apply some technologies used on this project on their own projects, the source code of this project can be found at https://github.com/tfcl/camoes.

Abstract:
In the context of the digital transformation of universities, the development of network resources comes to the fore in the strategic development of the university library. One of the most productive approaches to building a strategy is a marketing approach tied to five main categories:ДИНАМИКА БИБЛИОТЕЧНО-ИНФОРМАЦИОННОГО ОБЕСПЕЧЕНИЯ ОБРАЗОВАНИЯ, НАУКИ И КУЛЬТУРЫМатериалы II Всероссийской научно-практической конференцииCustomers, Competition, Data, Innovation, Values. Social networks have specific features and advantages over other types of resources for their use in solving educational and research problems. Depending on the tasks set, the university library can use different models for building client networks. The experience of applying the marketing approach for the development of the VK group of the USFTU (Ural State Forest Engineering University) scientific library in dynamics showed positive results in key indicators: the number of visits to the group was 102% of the target, the number of views was 254%.
