Abstract:
This article aims to show how the Nuclear disaster in Fukushima (3 March 2011) affected Japanese Language teaching and learning in Italy, focusing on the ITADICT Project (Marcella Mariotti, project leader, Clemente Beghi, research fellow and Alessandro Mantelli, programmer). The project intends to develop the first Japanese-Italian online database, involving more than 60 students of Japanese language interested in lexicographic research and online learning strategies and tools. A secondary undertaking of ITADICT is its Latin alphabet transliteration of Japanese words into Hepburn style. ITADICT is inspired by EDICT Japanese-English database developed by the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group established in 2000 within the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University. The Japanese-Italian database is evolving within the Department of Asian and North African Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the largest in the country and one of the main teaching centres of Japanese in Europe in terms of the number of students dedicated to it (1800) and number of Japanese language teaching hours (1002h at B.A. level, and 387h at M.A. level). In this paper we will describe how and why the project has been carried out and what the expectations are for its future development.

Abstract:
Explores the perceptions of faculty members towards Institutional Repository (named as Dyuthi) of Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala, India. It also discussed the content recruitment nature of faculty members in an institutional repository (IR). In order to carry out the study, a voluntary survey was conducted among faculty members. They showed high awareness and satisfaction about IR, and the highly significant relationship was observed between awareness and satisfaction. However, their self-archiving practice in Dyuthi was low, and they were not at all unfamiliar with the self-archiving practice outside Dyuthi. Faculty members tended to adopt a traditional preservation strategy to store their works, and they have supported the framing of a policy to deposit their scientific works in IR. This study concludes that to achieve the content growth, self-archiving must be encouraged, and faculty members are capable of self-archiving in IR. Dyuthi could elevate itself as a social medium by implementing the facilities such as commenting add-ons, request full-text copy add-ons, controlled vocabulary add-ons, the web of communication add-ons, restricted access, and storage facility similar to Google drive. Dyuthi’s workflow should also be altered by giving more importance to preservation.

Abstract:
An academic library’s most powerful constituents are faculty and administrators. In an attempt to satisfy the needs of individual departments and faculty members, many libraries employ subject specialists. To the degree that a subject specialist is proactive, or the department is heavily dependent on the library’s services, those needs will be met. However, few libraries have developed systematic programs to reach all faculty members or to begin targeting university administrators as a special user group. The rationale for doing so is twofold: to educate them on the growing role of information technology in research and teaching, and to enhance their support for new electronic resources. At George Washington University, the position of faculty outreach librarian was created to fill such a need. This article discusses how that position evolved, the projects initiated, and the outcomes that have led to revised marketing strategies.

Abstract:
The study ascertained the profile of students and faculty members and the level of their critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity and innovation, self-direction, global connections, local connections skills, and use of technology as a tool for learning. It also determined the significant difference among the 21st century skills and the dimensions, profile and the respondents. It also determined if a significant relationship exists between the levels of the 21st century skills among students, faculty members, and administrators. Survey through a questionnaire was used to gather data. Stratified sampling technique was applied in determining the 539 students, 125 faculty members, and 35 administrator respondents in the study. Frequency count and percentage were employed to find out the profile of students, faculty members and administrators. Mean rating was used to determine their level of 21st century skills. Results revealed that most of the student respondents are females, enrolled in the education, information technology and agricultural technology programs. Majority of the faculty members and administrators are females, in their middle adulthood stage and taught for more than six years. Results further indicated that the students, faculty members and administrators had a very good level of 21st century skills. Significant differences were noted between the 21st century skills of students by courses/programs and campuses. Significant differences were also recognized among faculty members between their 21st century skills and age. There is no significant relationship between the level of 21st century skills of students, faculty members, and administrators. The findings imply that there is a need to adopt more programs and activities in order to improve the 21st century skills among the students and faculty members. This can be done by upgrading the information technology systems of the University. Strengthening and reactivating global and local connections is also deemed necessary. These can be realized by increasing student and faculty mobility, use of blended learning approach in both the graduate and undergraduate levels, international partnerships, and reaching out to the local communities through projects among others.

The lack of innovation in human capital in terms of quality and quantity as well as the significant brain drain has retarded the progress of Malaysia towards becoming a developed country by 2020. In view of this situation, the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) of Malaysia has assigned the National Coordination Taskforce for Innovation (NCTI) to develop an innovative human capital (IHC) at tertiary level. One of the key elements in the IHC implementation plan is to enhance the entrepreneurial skills through education. The objective of this study is to investigate the perception and reception of non-business students on entrepreneurship education at the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). It examines the level of students’ inclination towards becoming entrepreneurs and their interest to learn entrepreneurial skills. The survey utilizes 96 usable responses of third and fourth year students from the faculty. The primary data consists of a set of survey questionnaires which include entrepreneurial intention, attitude towards entrepreneurship, subjective norms of entrepreneurship, perceived behavioral control over entrepreneurship, the influence of faculty on entrepreneurial behavior and the entrepreneurship learning propensity. It provides some insights on the factors influencing ICT students to venture into entrepreneurship. It also suggests measures on the importance of graduates to become successful entrepreneurs and be less dependent on employers.

Abstract:
Effective Information Technology usage refers to the intelligent utilization of all mediums of IT to gain maximum benefits. In order to survive in the current technological era, the teaching faculty is needed to use the information technology tools effectively to play progressive role in the educational institutions. The major objective of this study is to explore the influence of social, individual, and organizational factors on the university teachers to use the information technology effectively. In the current study, the population was included of all the teaching faculty which was the part of the Public universities of Punjab. A sample of 300 teachers was selected from 3 general public universities through multistage sampling technique. A Quantitative Survey research design was adopted and a survey instrument (7-point Likert scale) based on Davis’ TAM and M. Talukder. The inferential and descriptive statistics were applied for the data analysis. It was revealed in the results that the effective usage of IT was influenced by all the five sub variables of individual cognitive interpretational factors including prior experience, perceived usefulness, image, personal innovativeness. In organizational factor, the sub variable ‘incentives’ was found to have significant effect on the effective usage of IT. Similarly, under social factor, the peer pressure influence was found significantly determining the effective IT usage. It is suggested that for increasing the effective use of information technology, at administration level, information technology expertise should be made an integral part of selection criteria for university faculty

Abstract:
The article studies the problems and ways to use student-centred learning (SCL) for students of IT specialities. In today's competitive conditions of labour market development, university graduates must be well-prepared for future professional activities. The article presents the experience of theoretical research on the student-centred approach to learning. The authors dwell on the difficulties of acquiring a new pedagogical paradigm, which states the change "from teaching to learning" in the didactics of higher education. The paper emphasises the need for complex systematic work related to the development of strategies for digitising education. The focus is on learning outcomes in terms of communicative competencies development. It is necessary to introduce SCL based on a competency approach to teaching English for specific purposes (ESP) as it introduces personal meaning to the educational process. It puts in the first place not human knowledge but the ability to solve problems in different life situations. The study has proved that SCL provides student personal and cognitive growth, stimulates leadership and interpersonal communication. With this approach, students are involved in creating their learning experience; they are independent in choosing ways to acquire knowledge. The article demonstrates tasks for IT students that show how SCL stimulates them to think, analyse, synthesise, criticise and apply their knowledge in real-life situations. In the student-centred paradigm, the development of the subjects of the educational process focuses on modern humanistic knowledge, such categories as "subject", "freedom", "self-development", "integrity", "dialogue". Teachers foster positive outcomes for their students and increase their engagement. The authors show examples of such teaching methods as online investigation, Web-quest, Project method, a Problem-solving method, Flipped learning. They generate student motivation and engagement, increase collaboration and team productivity, foster communication and knowledge sharing, and enhance critical thinking and creativity. As a result, students gain practical experience and become self-confident and lifelong learners in the 21st century.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to highlight the techniques and applications used to adapt information literacy (IL) modules in such a way that students acquired the IL skills through the use of tablet technology. The focus at higher education institutions has been placed on embracing the ever-changing Web technologies to enhance teaching and learning. This case study reports on a collaborative effort between faculty and librarians in 2014, where tablet technology was integrated into the Information Literacy Certificate Programme of Environmental Management Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) students. Design/methodology/approach To support teaching with technology at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), a pilot project was conducted in 2014 using tablet technology to train IL to a group of 20 ECP Environmental Management students in the Applied Sciences Faculty. All modules were adapted for this purpose meaning that students used the tablet throughout the training sessions. Findings Good collaboration between librarians and faculty, as well as interaction between students increased. Some of the challenges faced were unstable internet connection; many Web applications identified by the trainers to use during the training were not compatible with the Nexus 7 Tablet. Overall, the training went well. In the end, the librarians were successful in achieving learning to take place among students. Originality/value Currently CPUT Libraries promotes the Information Literacy (IL) Certificate Programme to first year students, integrating IL into the curriculum of faculty. It is hoped that this paper will give insight for academic librarians wishing to incorporate mobile technologies into their IL training programmes.
