Abstract:

Abstract:
IntroductionIn the 1980s, the understanding and practice of Islam in Malaysiaentered a new phase. The global Islamic resurgence coupled with localMalaysian factors saw numerous important events talcing place. First, in1981 Dr. Mahathir Mohamed became Malaysia's fourth prime minister.Second, in 1982 the opposition Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS) wastaken over by new leadership that claimed total commitment to settingup an Islamic state and rejecting nationalism and ethnic politics. Also, inthe same year, Anwar Ibrahim, then the president of the MalaysianIslamic Youth Movement (ABIM), joined Dr. Mohamed's government, winning the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) youthmovement's presidency and joining the UMNO-led cabinet as a juniorminister. The Mohamed administration, unlike its predecessors, openly supportedIslamic reform at all levels of society. Islam's role became more thanceremonial; it became a source of values for development, facilitatedthrough the Inculcation of Islamic Values Policy (in 1981) and the establishment of numerous Islamic institutions such as the Islamic Bank ofMalaysia and the International Islamic University, Malaysia (IIUM) in1983. Although many see these developments as being merely politicallymotivated to counter the influence of PAS, it is without doubt that Dr.Mohamed was quite consistent with his earlier Views which he expressedin The Malay Dilemma. In his book he described Islam as the “greatestsingle influence on Malay value concepts and ethical codes,” thus beinga positive factor to develop the Malays ...

Coins are important evidence which cannot be easily challenged because it bears the date of minting, as well as the minted place (for silver). The coins in Iraq, at the beginning of Islam, included some names of princes; and the Umayyad coins did not include names of any successor or prince, as well as the Abbasid coins were the same as the Umayyad coins; but it changed at the time of the second Abbasid Caliph (al-Mansur) 136-158 AH. As well, the silver dirham included the name of the Prince of Caliph al-Mansur, therefore the words (the Mahdi Mohammed, Commander of the Faithful) appeared, especially on Mohammedia dirham in Iran since the Year 145/762. Abstract:
Comics are an increasingly popular medium in the twenty-first century. Combining words and images, comics enable the expression of individual and collective histories that straddle languages and cultures, reflecting the multimodality of the cognitive and narrative processes in a multilingual, globalising world. This article proposes an original framework to understand the power of comics as a transcultural medium by exploring the production of Takoua Ben Mohamed, a graphic journalist and comics author born in Tunisia and raised in Rome. These comics visualise histories of migration and translation in Italy and the Mediterranean, questioning notions of homogeneity, authenticity and canonicity of Italian memory and culture. The article engages with the theoretical and methodological framework of the Transnationalizing Modern Languages (TML) research project, exploring the interconnected linguistic and cultural dimensions of memory and translation. The analysis identifies a series of processes termed mediation-translation in Ben Mohamed's comics, which illuminate the constitutive nature of memory and translation in contemporary processes of identification.

Abstract:
Laila Soliman's prophetic words in Lessons in Revolting, “this revolution is far from over” (2011) have come to fruition. The ouster of former President Mohammed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood-dominated government by a military takeover on 3 July 2013 (after only one year in power) has added another chapter to the uprising's trajectory. While the revolution inspired dramatic protest and equally spectacular creative expression in the form of experimental theatre, music, art, spoken word, and other forms, many Egyptian artistes and cultural critics have bemoaned a general stymying of artistic synergies at the state level due to a series of interconnected factors. They have attributed this attrition to “budget limitations, recurring safety problems, the so-called ‘religious eye’ that defied Egypt's cultural identity— particularly during the year when power was in the hands of the former president Mohamed Mursi—and a cabinet filled with either the Islamist factions or their sympathizers” (Metwaly 2013).

Abstract:

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is twofold, firstly to refute the idea of what some studies refer to as a scarcity of moral studies in Arab thought compared to those in Western thought. We find significant research work in the Arab East that include efforts of Abdullah Daraz, Abdul Rahman Badawi, Ahmad Amin, Majid Fakhri, , As well as other research work in the Arab West including the efforts of Malik bin Nabi, Mohammed Arkoun, Mohamed Abed Al-Jabri, Mohamed Aziz Al-Hababi, Taha Abdul Rahman, Abu Yarub Al-Marzouki and others. Secondly to illustrate the nature of the crisis of contemporary humanity, which is essentially a moral crisis, and that the treatment should be of the sage nature; i.e., to emphasize the need for ethical solution. This may explain the growing interest in moral issues in Western thought which provides its own contribution, and Arab thought, which provides its contribution based on its experience and heritage texts.

Abstract:
A finite element reinforced concrete model has been analyzed by the author with ANSYS 9 finite element program for both unstrengthened and CFRP-strengthened beams using concrete element model 25x25x25mm and discrete and smeared steel distribution with openings exist. The CFRP has been modeled using Solid46 element, which has orthotropic properties. The deflection results have been compared with an experimental and other finite element model which are performed by Mohamed [4], in which using 100x42.5x42.5 mm concrete element, smeared steel distribution with the same opening sizes, and modeling CFRP with ANSYS 5 finite element program using Link10 element which has a uniaxial properties. These results show that the author's model is much better than the Mohamed's [4] model comparing with the experimental one. A parametric study has been done on the proposed model for obtaining the maximum strains values for concrete and steel at failure loads, for different opening sizes and comparing them with the experimental one. This study show a good agreement between the proposed and experimental model results for strains values which indicate the efficiency of the proposed model for analyzing the unstrengthend and strengthened reinforced concrete beams.

Abstract:
A name is one of the essential elements of identity. The choice of a name reflects personal as well as ethnic or religious identity. It is a reflection of individual preferences, cultural traditions and family ties, the social environment. These processes are also evident in a minority environment. The subject of interest of this study are strategies for granting names in Muslim families living in Slovakia. Our aim is to find out how and why parents choose names for their children. We will try to identify the role of individual feelings of parents as they are influenced by customary traditions of the countries from which the child’s parents come. We will be interested in the extent to which the fact that the partners live in Slovakia (mostly a Christian country with a minimal proportion of the Muslim population) contributes to the decision on the name, how it is determined by the existing public opinion about foreigners and Muslims. We present findings of a questionnaire survey with Muslims living in Slovakia or their partners. The participants were mainly people living in ethnically or religiously mixed partnerships, partly homogeneous partnerships or people who lived without a partner.

Abstract:
‘Economics education’ as a field within economics focuses on “the current state of, the economics curriculum, materials and pedagogical techniques used to teach economics at all educational levels” (Becker, 2001). Unfortunately, Islamic economics education (IEE) is a highly neglected field in contemporary Islamic economics. As such, this edited book is an important addition to this much needed area.

Abstract:
Unlike most of you, I hope, I have spent quite a lot of time in jail. This is not because I am a criminal, even though those who jailed me have called me a terrorist and worse. It is because I am a campaigner for democracy. I believe everyone has a right to vote and to be represented by a government they choose as free citizens. For that I have spent many years behind bars.
