Abstract:

This article is devoted to Leon Modena’s anti-Christian polemical work Magen ve-herev (1643 ca.) as a useful source for the reconstruction of notions about the historical Jesus in the early modern period. In this work, Modena depicts Jesus in a sympathetic way, placing his religious activity against the backdrop of second Temple Judaism. Modena’s Jesus is fully Jewish, and Magen ve-herev offers different perspectives on the religious and historical context of Jesus’ life, and on the development of Christianity. The text is interpreted not exclusively against the backdrop of Jewish anti-Christian polemics but as the result of an increasing interest in the history of Christianity and ecclesiastical history, mainly as a response to the religious strife that resonated in the Republic of Venice and its ghetto.

Abstract:

This article traces the foundation and development of confraternities in the city of Modena and identifies key events that influenced how lay associations determined the social, spiritual, and cultural responsibilities outlined in their statutes. Over time, however, the confraternities underwent major changes to their corporate identity and subsequently adapted their statutes to reflect those changes. The article also charts the documentary lineage of the regulations that governed Modena’s confraternities, revealing the complexity of both internal and external influences that affected the ways in which the societies designed, updated, and enforced their statutes.

Abstract:

Contexto/Objetivo: En este trabajo se propone una nueva metodología de análisis de vulnerabilidad de sistemas de potencia incluyendo incertidumbre en algunas variables.Método: La metodología implementa un modelo de optimización binivel entera-mixta. En el nivel inferior se minimizan los costos asociados a la generación de energía y a la penalidad por deslastre de carga, mientras que en el nivel superior se maximiza el daño en el sistema de potencia representado por el deslastre de carga. Se utiliza la Lógica Difusa tipo 2 para modelar la incertidumbre tanto en variables lingüísticas como en variables numéricas. Las variables lingüísticas modelan los factores del entorno geográfico mientras que las variables numéricas modelan los parámetros del sistema de potencia.Resultados: La metodología se validó en un sistema de prueba IEEE RTS-96 modificado. Los resultados muestran que al incluir particularidades del entorno geográfico se detectan distintas vulnerabilidades en el sistema de potencia. Además, se logró identificar que el componente más crítico del sistema es la línea 112-123, ya que es atacada 16 veces en 18 escenarios contemplados, y que el máximo deslastre de carga en el sistema varía desde 145 a 1258 MW.Conclusiones: Esta metodología puede ser usada para coordinar y afinar los planes de seguridad de la infraestructura eléctrica del sistema.Financiamiento: Grupo de investigación EMC-UN

Abstract:

El Desarrollo de Software Orientado a Features (FOSD) consiste en la construcción de sistemas a partir de un conjunto de características, cada feature o característica es una unidad funcional que satisface un requisito de software. Las fases son análisis del dominio, diseño e implementación del dominio, configuración y generación del producto de software, obteniendo así una Línea de Productos de Software (SPL). El presente trabajo realiza una comparación de herramientas para su implementación y, se analiza un conjunto de aplicaciones que modelan features. Resultando un espacio de estudio abierto para modelar aplicaciones para la Televisión Digital Interactiva (TVDi). Además se han encontrado diversos métodos, artefactos y patrones de diseño para el modelado de una aplicación de TVDi en particular, reflejando un estudio para el modelado de variabilidad. El objetivo principal es estudiar SPL / FOSD, empleando los Patrones de Diseño de Interacción (PDI) para el dominio de las aplicaciones de TVDi.

Abstract:

This article investigates the actions of the eighteenth-century Roman Inquisition, looking at controlling sexuality and social control in particular. To this end, it examines the actions of an “atypical” outlying tribunal: the Modena tribunal. In the 1700s, the tribunal's activities did not decline, as the number of trials held increased. Possible reasons for this anomaly and its characteristics are illustrated in response to certain questions: what instructions did Modena receive from the Holy Office in Rome? What was the Modena tribunal's actual reaction? The article demonstrates the existence of not only a discrepancy between the Roman Congregation's instructions and the behavior of the judges in Modena, but also differing priorities regarding which crimes to pursue. The Modena anomaly is compared with other Italian inquisitorial offices, identifying idiosyncrasies and points of convergence: in the case of Modena—capital of the Duchy of Modena—it seems the Inquisition acted as a tool of social control and moralization, alongside a relatively weak political power. Lastly, the case in question highlights a methodological matter: the documentation from Rome (e.g. correspondence with local inquisitions) does not reflect the reality of events in the outlying offices, thus requiring caution and, where possible, verification, when used.

Abstract:

Este artículo analiza las diferentes variables de la deuda en una revisión bibliográfica de la estructura de capital en los sectores productivos colombianos; profundiza particularmente en la teoría del Pecking Order y busca validar y modelar el comportamiento de la deuda en las empresas de acuerdo con lo estipulado por los autores analizados. El documento pretende ser un referente de estudio cuantitativo en los conceptos y variables que se relacionan con la estructura de capital; se fundamenta en un análisis estadístico de las variables de la deuda, donde se modelan y se correlacionan con los elementos que rigen la teoría de la jerarquización. Al final, el documento concluye sobre la diversificación en el manejo de la deuda en las organizaciones y a la vez en la no rigidez en los modelos planteados de la estructura de capital. Propone nuevos lineamiento de investigación en cuanto a las herramientas utilizadas para el análisis y la pertinencia de caracterizar los sectores de estudio.

An important consideration factor for consumers to choose home appliances products is product quality. Marketing communication can be a medium for companies to convey information about products and their advantages as well as a stimulus that drives consumers to make purchases. Modena chooses event marketing communication tactics namely Culinaria Modena so consumers can know and experience first hand the quality and features of the product. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of perceived quality on buying interest through the Culinaria Modena event. The results of the study stated that there is a strong influence between perceived quality on buying interest through events. This states that the event is a strategic marketing communication to build buying interest. It is recommended to Modena to increase the frequency of organizing Culinaria Modena and events become the main choice in marketing communication tactics.

Se cree importante la valorización patrimonial de la arquitectura moderna del siglo XX en México. Para ello, es fundamental reconocer que es una arquitectura del siglo pasado, y que es imperioso acrecentar el conocimiento de sus características. En ese sentido, este texto aborda los retos que presupone su conservación por estar aún inserta dentro de un marco conceptual estrecho y un conocimiento limitado de atributos. Esto debido a la idea aceptada de entenderla genéricamente como una única arquitectura moderna. De ahí que el objetivo principal del presente texto sea explicar que, siendo arquitecturas conceptualmente cercanas, no son exactamente lo mismo, y que existen diferencias y similitudes que las definen como arquitecturas distintas. Más aun, establecer historiográficamente que no existió en ningún momento una teoría y práctica unificada detrás de lo que se ha denominado posteriormente como arquitectura moderna en México. Sin embargo, la intención de este artículo será ahondar en las características de las arquitecturas del movimiento moderno y las de tipo funcionalistas y racionalistas, únicamente.

Abstract:

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo especificar como os direitos individuais constantes nas constituições modernas foram elaborados a partir de uma grande revolução filosófica que girou em torno desta questão: o que é a essência do homem? A obra talvez mais decisiva neste contexto é a obra de John Locke na segunda metade do XVII. É o que diz Locke resumidamente em seu Ensaio sobre o entendimento humano: nós não podemos conhecer o que é o homem. Locke vai afirmar que não somos capazes de conhecer qual é a substancia do homem, nem qual é seria a sua natureza. As únicas coisas que são conhecíveis entre os homens são as relações e, dentre estas, a única relação que é perfeitamente clara é a do “consentimento”. É, pois, esta a grande revolução filosófica que envolveu tanto a formação constitucional na Europa quanto nos EUA. Deste modo, este ensaio pretende analisar alguns aspectos do surgimento e as limitações desta teoria constitucional moderna.

Clinical practice and research are frequently seen as two worlds apart, in psychiatry as in the vast majority of medical specialties. In order to bridge the gap between them, economic founds and grants are required, not always easy to obtain. In this contribution we report the birth of the Association for Research in Psychiatry (ARPSY) and its main activities. ARPSY was born in May 2016 thanks to a research prize assigned to dr. Giorgio Mattei by the eight Rotary Clubs of the Province of Modena, Italy (Rotary Club Modena, Mirandola, Carpi, Sassuolo, Vignola Castelfranco Bazzano, Frignano, Modena L.A. Muratori, Castelvetro di Modena Terra dei Rangoni, that altogether make up the so-called “Ghirlandina Group”). El objetivo del estudio fue analizar la producción científica y la evidencia empírica sobre la relación entre acoso y ciberacoso y el efecto predictor de la desconexión moral en niños(as) y adolescentes. La búsqueda bibliográfica se efectuó en Scopus y Web of Science. Para el análisis se utilizó bibliometrix, Sci2 Tool y Gephi. Se encontró que, entre el año 2000 y 2020, la producción científica se incrementó entre un 29% y un 53%. El análisis de clúster mostró tres perspectivas de investigación. La primera estuvo enfocada al análisis de las diferencias y similitudes entre el acoso y ciberacoso. Se discutió si el acoso y el ciberacoso son un mismo fenómeno. Se encontró que las intenciones, motivaciones, la tendencia a la repetición de la conducta, los perfiles y roles de poder de los intimidadores son diferentes en el acoso y el ciberacoso. La segunda estuvo enfocada al análisis de los efectos de la desconexión moral sobre el acoso escolar. Se encontró que la activación de la desconexión moral por parte de las víctimas son un factor de riesgo para modelar conductas de intimidación en el futuro. Las dinámicas sociales del grupo, las relaciones de amistad y la empatía fueron factores que median y moderan la asociación entre la desconexión moral y el acoso escolar. La última perspectiva se orientó al análisis de los efectos de la desconexión moral sobre el ciberacoso. Se encontró que la desconexión moral es un predictor de la victimización e intimidación por ciberacoso. La tendencia empática, la identidad moral, los rasgos de ira, el clima escolar y la amabilidad son factores que median y moderan los efectos de la desconexión moral sobre el ciberacoso. Se concluye que el acoso y ciberacoso son el resultado de la influencia de factores socio morales, emocionales y relacionales.

Abstract:

The programmability of RNA–RNA interactions through intermolecular base-pairing has been successfully exploited to design a variety of RNA devices that artificially regulate gene expression. An in silico design for interacting structured RNA sequences that satisfies multiple design criteria becomes a complex multi-objective problem. Although multi-objective optimization is a powerful technique that explores a vast solution space without empirical weights between design objectives, to date, no web service for multi-objective design of RNA switches that utilizes RNA–RNA interaction has been proposed. We developed a web server, which is based on a multi-objective design algorithm called MODENA, to design two interacting RNAs that form a complex in silico. By predicting the secondary structures with RactIP during the design process, we can design RNAs that form a joint secondary structure with an external pseudoknot. The energy barrier upon the complex formation is modeled by an interaction seed that is optimized in the design algorithm. We benchmarked the RNA switch design approaches (MODENA+RactIP and MODENA+RNAcofold) for the target structures based on natural RNA-RNA interactions. As a result, MODENA+RactIP showed high design performance for the benchmark datasets.

Abstract:

Assessing secondary and primary NO2 in urban areas is important to support carefully designed environmental policies, particularly in areas with recurrent exceedance of NO2 regulatory limits. The share of secondary NO2 was preliminary estimated in intense traffic areas of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Northern Italy) by the combined analysis of regulatory air quality observations at urban traffic and urban background conditions. In addition simulations performed by the Lagrangian particle dispersion models Micro SWIFT SPRAY and the chemical transport model WRF-Chem were performed. The former was applied on the urban area representative of traffic conditions for both cities, in winter. The latter was applied twice in Modena, both with and without urban traffic emissions. Results suggest a large amount of secondary NO2 mainly at the Modena traffic site, and a better representativity of background conditions of the corresponding urban station in Reggio Emilia. NOx levels simulated by WRF-Chem show good results at Modena urban background and performance in line with reference benchmark values in reproducing observed NO2 and NOx concentrations at rural background sites, although a non-negligible bias in simulated urban NO2 remained. Overall the simulation models suggest that contribution to atmospheric NOx by domestic heating or industrial combustion emissions are not as relevant compared to traffic, consistently with the local emission inventory.

Abstract:

Vinegars are natural products manufactured by two-step fermentation. One of the most famous is balsamic vinegar, especially that produced in Modena, Italy. Its unique production process positively distinguishes it from other vinegars. There are basically three types of balsamic vinegar: common balsamic vinegar, Balsamic vinegar of Modena, and Traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena. The chemical analysis of these vinegars is mainly carried out by using gas or liquid chromatography, often coupled to mass spectrometric detection. Although gas chromatography is generally used for the determination of the overall profile of volatile organic compounds, furfurals, phenolic compounds, and organic acids, high-performance liquid chromatography is typically applied for the determination of amino acids, sugars, and polyphenols. The two complementary techniques, the combination of which is useful for the detailed characterization of balsamic vinegars, are reviewed and discussed in this article.

Abstract:

The present study was designed to compare the efficacy of 3 different extenders for preservation of boar semen at 15°C. Ejaculates (32) were evaluated and extended (1:4) in TRIXcell+, Modena and GEPS extenders and kept for 4 h of holding at 22°C. The samples were preserved in a BOD incubator at 15°C up to 168 h and evaluated for sperm motility, intact acrosome and HOST-reacted sperm at 0, 72, 96, 120, 144 and 168 h of preservation. The mean percentage of sperm motility, intact acrosome and HOST-reacted sperm was significantly higher in TRIXcell+ extender than Modena and GEPS at different hours of preservation. Out of the 3 extenders studied, TRIXcell+ was found to be the best followed by Modena and GEPS extenders respectively based on sperm motility, intact acrosome and HOST.

Varios aspectos relacionados con la idealización estructural de edificios de acero con marcos perimetrales resistentes a momento y marcos interiores de gravedad (MGs) se abordan en esta investigación. El estudio numérico indica que la contribución de los MGs a la resistencia lateral puede ser significativa y que modelar los edificios como marcos planos puede resultar en elementos mecánicos, cortantes y desplazamientos de entrepiso más grandes que cuando se modelan en forma tridimensional, por lo que su diseño puede ser conservador. También se observa que el cortante de entrepiso promedio generalmente se incrementa cuando se considera la rigidez de las conexiones de los MGs. Los desplazamientos de entrepiso promedio son similares para los modelos con conexiones articuladas y semi-rígidas. Los resultados también indican que los momentos que las conexiones pueden transmitir son cercanos al 30 % de los momentos plásticos de las vigas a las que conectan. La diferencia entre los resultados se debe principalmente a los elementos que contribuyen a la resistencia y rigidez, la disipación de energía, y las características dinámicas de cada representación estructural. Se concluye que, si se usa la estructuración antes mencionada, el modelo tridimensional debe ser usado, que los MGs deberán considerarse como parte del sistema lateral resistente y que la rigidez de las conexiones deberá incluirse en el diseño de los MGs

In pre-modern history, games were considered beneficial for the balance of the humours. Gambling for money, however, was often associated with greed, one of the deadly sins. In the 16th century, a change occurred. Leone da Modena describes gambling as a special form of mercantile action, Pascasius Justus treats gambling as illness (not as vice). Spiele galten in der Vormoderne als förderlich für die Regulation des Säftehaushalts. Das Glückspiel um Geld allerdings wurde häufig mit der Todsünde der Habsucht in Verbindung gebracht. Im 16. Jh. setzt ein Wandel ein. Bei Leone da Modena wird das Spiel als eine Sonderform des kaufmännischen Handels beschrieben, bei Pascasius Justus der Spieltrieb als Krankheitsbild (nicht als Laster) behandelt.

This study aims to determine the effect of price and quality on brand image and its implications for purchasing decisions on Modena gas cooktops. This study also examines the indirect effect of price and quality on brand image with purchasing decisions as an intervening variable. The study was conducted in the grand galaxy city residence in Bekasi. The sample in this study is consumers or at least know about Modena products with a purposive sampling method. The number of respondents who participated in this study were 100 respondents. Data collection was done through a questionnaire with a Likert scale of 1-5. The method of analysis uses path analysis using SPSS version 24.0. the results showed that price has a positive and significant effect on brand image, quality has a positive and significant effect on brand image, brand image has a positive and significant influence on purchasing decisions for Modena gas cooktop. SummaryThe objective of the present study was to elucidate whether resveratrol could facilitate the survival of boar sperm during liquid preservation and fast cooling processes. Boar semen were diluted with Modena extender containing different concentrations of resveratrol. Sperm motility was evaluated by visual estimation. Membrane integrity, acrosome integrity and mitochondrial membrane potentials were measured by SYBR-14/PI, FITC-PNA and JC-1 staining, respectively. Moreover, the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), malonaldehyde (MDA) and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) were measured using commercial assay kits. B-cell lymphoma protein-2 (BCL2) content was determined by western blotting. During liquid preservation at 17oC, the addition of 50 μM resveratrol to the Modena extender significantly improved sperm motility, membrane integrity, acrosome integrity, and sperm mitochondrial membrane potentials. Similar results were also observed in the 150 μM resveratrol group during the fast cooling process. Furthermore, addition of resveratrol led to a decrease of ROS and MDA, and an increase in the content of T-AOC and BCL2. These observations suggest that addition of resveratrol to Modena extender protects boar sperm against oxidative stress. The optimal concentrations of resveratrol are 50 μM and 150 μM during liquid preservation and fast cooling process, respectively.

SummaryBased both on the author's personal testimony of living, working and studying in Italy for ten years, and on his more recent sociological fieldwork, this article explores various dimensions of racism in the north Italian city of Modena, paying special attention to the experiences of Tunisian immigrants. The methodology comprises interviews with Tunisian immigrants and their employers, observations in bars and other public places, analysis of racism in the workplace, monitoring of the local media and reference to the national political debate. The findings reveal that being on the receiving end of racism, hostility and violence are regular facets of the everyday lives of Tunisian immigrants in Modena, as well as being part of a wider local and national anti-immigrant discourse.

This study investigated the effects of skim-milk supplementation on the quality and penetrating ability of boar semen preserved at 15 °C. When boar semen samples were preserved in Modified Modena extender supplemented with various concentrations (0, 7.5, 15, 30 and 50 mg/mL) of skim milk powder at 15 °C for 4 weeks, higher sperm motility and viability were observed in the case of 7.5 mg/mL skim-milk supplementation compared with the control group (0 mg/mL) during the preservation (P < 0.05). When in vitro matured oocytes were co-incubated with boar sperm that had been preserved in Modified Modena extender with three different concentrations (0, 7.5 or 15 mg/mL) of skim milk powder at 15 °C for two weeks, there were no apparent effects of skim-milk supplementation on the rates of fertilisation and development to blastocysts of oocytes after co-incubation. However, the monospermic fertilisation rate of sperm preserved with 15 mg/mL skim milk powder was higher (P < 0.05) than that of fresh non-preserved sperm, but did not differ among the preservation groups. The results indicate that the supplementation of Modified Modena extender with 7.5 mg/mL skim milk powder improves the motility and viability, but not the penetrating ability, of sperm after liquid preservation for at least two weeks.

The present study aimed to develop a long-term fresh boar semen extender by adding l-cysteine and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) into Beltsville thawing solution (BTS)-based extender. Semen samples were collected from six boars, diluted at a concentration of 3 × 10<sup>9</sup> spermatozoa/100 ml and allocated into 10 groups as follows: BTS, Merck III<sup>®</sup>, Androstar<sup>®</sup> Plus, Modena<sup>TM</sup>, DHA 1.5 mg/ml, 3 mg/ml, and 6.25 mg/ml, l-cysteine 2.5 mM, 5.0 mM, and 10 mM. All extended semen samples were stored at 18 °C and were evaluated for progressive motility, viability, acrosome integrity, pH, and osmolality on days 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 of storage. The results documented that on day 3, l-cysteine at 2.5 mM showed the significantly highest percentage (78.8%) of progressive motility, but not different from Modena<sup>TM</sup> (78.8%) and Androstar<sup>®</sup> Plus (71.3%) (P < 0.05). On day 5, l-cysteine at 2.5 mM maintained progressive motility and viability up to 73.8% and 77.9%, respectively, but not different from Modena<sup>TM</sup> (78.8% and 74.8%) and Androstar<sup>®</sup> Plus (70.0% and 76.8%) (P < 0.05). On day 7, superior progressive motility (71.3%, 77.5% and 72.5%) and viability (72.8%, 77.3% and 69.8%) were found for l-cysteine at 2.5 mM, Modena<sup>TM</sup> and Androstar<sup>®</sup> Plus groups, respectively, when compared to the other groups (P < 0.01). However, in the present study, DHA supplementation failed to maintain fresh boar semen qualities during storage. In conclusion, adding l-cysteine at a concentration of 2.5 mM in a BTS-based extender is the optimal concentration for the preservation of fresh boar semen at 18 °C for seven days.

The precious collection of manuscript scores and printed libretti dating from the late seventeenth century and housed today in the Biblioteca Estense at Modena is ample proof that Duke Francesco II d'Este (1660–94) was one of Italy's most generous patrons of music. Indeed his library, which good fortune has preserved almost intact, is an indispensable resource for the study of oratorio, opera and instrumental music in northern Italy in the last quarter of the century. Its contents show him to have been a man of catholic and modern taste, acquiring and promoting works by living composers active in Rome, Florence, Bologna, Ferrara, Venice and, of course, Modena. On the evidence of the Este music collection, historians have been consistent in applauding the cultural achievements of Francesco II's reign and yet, surprisingly, there have been no detailed studies of the way in which the duke exercised his patronage.
