Abstract:
The article provides an overview of international and Russian literature on the genesis and development of System Research in IR studies, demonstrates the emergence of System Research in Russia and in the world, the development of the general theory of systems. It is shown that at the first stage, the representatives of natural sciences tried to identify the isomorphism between the international relations system and other systems (biological, physical). In this context, the attempts to form a general theory of international conflict could be viewed. It is noted that at the beginning of the 1970s, these attempts ended unsuccessfully in general. The second area of international relations system modeling is related to the work of structural realists, primarily K. Waltz and M. Kaplan. Despite the fact that in their papers the verbal analysis dominates over the formal international relations system model, they have made a significant contribution to the political science in perception of the systems theory. The paper also describes the system modeling in the context of the Neo-Marxist theory of international relations, first and foremost, in the meaning of the I. Wallerstein's world-system theory. Special attention is paid to the systemic research crisis in the IR science at the turn of 1980–1990s, also due to a sharp change in the international situation, and the transition from a predominantly deterministic world of the Cold War to the post-bipolar non-equilibrium international system. The authors clearly reveal the evolution of the international relations perception in terms of the systems theory. They also illustrate the intensification of the international system modeling in the XXIst century on the basis of a new methodology – via the use of the more sophisticated complexity theory (the theory of complex systems), as well as by adapting the sociological theory of structuration by A. Giddens in political sciences. Showing the most promising areas of the complexity theory practical application in the modeling of international relations – agent-based modeling and simulation of system dynamics, – the authors enumerate the most promising spheres for the system modeling in international studies.

Transients in electric power systems are of great interest to power engineers when designing a new or maintaining an existing system. The paper deals with using hybrid system theory for modeling and simulation of an electric power system with controllers. The presented technique is rather convenient and recommended as mathematical models of transients in electric power systems with controllers in general contain both continuous and discrete components. The modeling and simulation were carried out in the modeling and simulation environment ISMA, which is briefly presented in the paper.

Abstract:
Modern science constantly improves approaches and methods of formalization of certain regularities using the latest achievements in mathematics, computer science and other exact Sciences. The methodological basis for research and modeling of systems is often considered to be the theory and practice of mathematical modeling. In the classical system approach, as a rule, system modeling is based on the use of similarity theories and scientific experiment, as well as mathematical statistics, algorithm theory, and a number of other fundamental classical theories. However, focusing only on mathematical modeling ignores the system nature of objects and their models, and also complicates the formalization of the problem, its translation from the verbal form of description to the formal one. The need to understand the relationships between the elements of the system, its structure and functions, combined with the description of system patterns, led to the development of system modeling, which aims not only to gain knowledge about the system, but also to optimize it.

This paper provides a new method and theory bases for the construction standard system establishment. Originality/value – Dynamic, open and non-linear can be considered as the core characteristics of construction standard system in structure, environment and behavior aspects, and that means the standard system is a typical complex system.

Traditional reliability models of the gear system either simplify the gear system unreasonably or are too complicated to be applicable for some gear systems. Therefore, a reliability model of the gear system considering statistically dependent failure based on the theory of the order statistics is developed in this paper. Firstly, the gear bending fatigue test of small sample is implemented to obtain the P-S-N curves that are fitted by using the least square method and the linear regression method of the statistical parameters under the test stress levels. Then, according to stress-strength interference theory and the theory of the order statistics, the reliability models considering the number of load cycles from a gear to gear system are built, which indicates clear modeling process of the gear system. Finally, the proposed reliability model of gear system is validated by using the Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) and the system reliability under special load history is analyzed qualitatively.

This article describes proposed content of an online toolkit for users of the work system modeling method (WSMM), an extension of the work system method (WSM), which was developed to help business professionals understand IT-reliant systems and collaborate with IT professionals. A summary of work system theory (WST) and WSM provides a background. A two-dimensional design space for modeling methods illustrates WSMM's context. Two limitations of WSMM imply the need for a toolkit that overcomes those limitations. An auto rental example is used to illustrate a series of modeling, analysis, and design modules related to different stakeholder purposes. Most of the modules reflect components of Word documents used as outlines to produce over 700 management briefings, mostly by MBA and Executive MBA students, between 2003 and 2017. A concluding section summarizes the main ideas, explains how the use of different modules based on the work system metaphor flexibly supports systems analysis and design, and identifies challenges for future research.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the development of a conceptually new systemic structural approach to the study of sustainability of economic systems. The problem of ensuring sustainability of economic entities remains unsolved, largely due to the lack of the necessary methodology. In the article, the approach is shaped by new economic systems theory, which implies the division of all economic systems into types depending on their spatiotemporal localization. Applied research of socio-economic system of Ukraine in its context is implemented by econometric modeling using data mining techniques and by calculating the economic sustainability index using the author’s techniques. The indicators, announced by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, as well as the ranking and indexing results, presented by leading international organizations, are used as the parameters. Alternative hypothesis about preconditioning of economic sustainability of the macro-level system by the structural balance of its four subsystems with different spatial and temporal localization is confirmed. The results of modeling have shown a number of interesting, previously not formalized, patterns of the country’s development and have allowed to better understand the forming mechanism of its sustainability in different periods during 2000–2015. Both the methodology itself and the empirical results obtained on its basis open up a wide variety of perspectives of micro and macroeconomic analysis.

A self-consistent system of the Boltzmann equation and the Poisson equation is used to study the dynamical evolution of Saturn's main A, B, and C rings. The theory, as applied to the Saturnian ring system, predicts for several features, such as numerous irregular density wakes, with size and spacing between them of the order 4πρ ≈ 2πh, where ρ is the mean epicycle radius of the particle and h is the typical thickness of the system under study. In Saturn's rings, ρ ≲ 10 m. Computer N-body experiments are desribed which test the validities of the theory. Use of the 112-processor SGI Origin 2000 supercomputer is enabled us to make long runs using a large number of particles in the direct simulation code and thus simulate phenomena not previously studied numerically. We predict that forthcoming in 2004 Cassini spacecraft high-resolution images will reveal this recurrent fine-scale ∼ 100 m or so structure in low and moderately high optical depth regions of the rings.

The current theory of nonlinear systems is still not perfect. The modeling and control of nonlinear system problem has always been the difficulty. In a variety of methods of its study, fuzzy system theory because of having the language descriptive way similar to the human mind, can obtain and deal with the qualitative information intelligently. The theory itself also has non-linear characteristics. Therefore the use of fuzzy systems theory to establish the fuzzy model of nonlinear system can well describe the nonlinear characteristics. T-S fuzzy systems, due to the combination of the good performance of the fuzzy system to deal with nonlinear problems with the simple linear expressions, are not only suitable for modeling the nonlinear system, but also use T-S fuzzy model and the linear control theory method to design the controller. So it has been widely used in nonlinear system control problems, and has also greatly developed the T-S fuzzy system theory, appearing a lot of methods of structural and parameter identification. However, this study of T-S fuzzy rules makes us have to face the difference of different ways to select the number of rules as well as online self-adaptability of the number of rules which off-line method lacks when using T-S fuzzy model to deal with nonlinear system modeling and control problem. In view of this, this paper researches on modeling and controlling of complex nonlinear systems based on TS model from different perspectives.

On the basis of the model from the theory of automatic control (TAU) and the development of an adequate and effective mathematical model of the endothelium, to simulate in silico the structures of the cardiovascular system (CCC), as elements of the physico-biological system of automatic regulation (FBSAR). The article is aimed at researchers in the field of fundamental pharmacology and medicine. Materials and methods. We introduce the mathematical model "nozzle-damper-bellows" - as a theoretical and experimental justification for the construction and development of a mathematical model: endotheliocyte, endothelium, smooth muscle cells (MMC) and the vessel wall. On this basis, we will draw up a structural and functional scheme of the physico-biological control object (FBOU), as a dynamic link in the composition of the physico-biological system of automatic regulation (FBSAR). Outcomes. The conclusions of the mathematical model have been reformulated and the in-silico modeling of the structures of the cardiovascular system (CCC) based on the model from the theory of automatic control (TAU), gives us the possibility of adapted processes into automatic control systems (CAP) on processes in physico-biological automatic control systems (FBSAR). Scientific contributions. Based on the automatic control system (CAP) of the physical process, structured from the regulator (R) and the control object (OC) (Figure 4), we have created a physico-biological automatic control system (FBSAR) and the corresponding physico-biological control objects (FBOU). The tuning coefficients introduced by the mathematical model of the control object (OC) and the regulator (R) in automatic control systems (CAP) are similar to the tuning coefficients of homeostasis for real physical and biological control objects (FBOU), and physico-biological automatic control systems (FBSAR). Conclusion. The main effects on the pharmacological target of the cardiovascular system, like physico-biological automatic control systems (FBSAR) are the coefficients of adjustment of practical implemented connections in automatic control systems (ATS), from the theory of automatic control (TAU)

Compound systems are generally treated by geometrical optics, for instance, through the Gauss’ formalism. The objective is to simplify the process of image formation. However, this formalism does not include the wave characteristics of light and boundary effects. The treatment of diffraction is not straightforward. Thus, the extension of this formalism towards the scalar theory of diffraction is very desired. This work offers this extension and emphasizes its importance. Compound systems, including the human eye, are then modeled by Fresnel theory. For illustration, a lens-based model of the Fresnel transform is used to treat the human eye system.

Background: In order to better establish accurate load models and meet the practical demand of current power system load modeling, it is necessary to establish related technical support systems for power system load modeling. Objective: The purpose of the paper was to construct the overall scheme of power system load modeling technology support system and complete the development of the system. Methods: Based on the modular design idea, the system adopts a multi-level architecture combining B/S and C/S modes, covering the key technologies of substation classification based on selforganizing neural network algorithm, load dynamic characteristic classification based on lifting wavelet packet algorithm, load model parameter identification and load modeling based on adaptive interactive multiple model (AIMM) algorithm. Results: After actual operation verification, the built technology support system can well solve the related problems of substation classification, load dynamic characteristic classification, load model parameter identification and load modeling. It has the characteristics of a friendly man-machine interface, simple operation and strong extensibility. Conclusion: The built technology support system provides powerful technical support for improving the load data management level of the power system and establishing an accurate load model, and promotes the practical process of load modeling theory.

A wide range of engineering problems involve porous media modeling. General porous media models are highly nonlinear, geometrically complex, and must account for energy transfer between fluid and solid constituents normally modeled in distinct Lagrangian and Eulerian reference frames. Combining finite element discretization techniques with bond graph methods greatly simplifies the model formulation process, as compared to alternative schemes based on weighted residual solutions of the governing partial differential equations. The result generalizes existing numerical models of porous media and current network thermodynamics/bond graph theory.

СаратовРанее методами теории комбинированных динамических систем (КДС) были исследованы области устойчивости спутников с упруго деформируемыми элементами конструкции, и был реализован параметрический синтез по линеаризованной модели с учетом времени запаздывания в исполнительных органах систем стабилизации. В настоящей работе по результатам численного моделирования спутников с упруго деформируемыми элементами конструкции показано, что нелинейная КДС с запаздыванием в исполнительных органах системы управления может быть стабилизирована в результате параметрического синтеза по линеаризованной модели. Previously, the stability regions of satellites with elastically deformable structural elements were investigated by the methods of the theory of hybrid dynamical systems (HDS), and parametric synthesis was realized by the linearized model taking into account the time lag in the stabilization system. In this paper, based on the results of numerical modeling of satellites with elastic-deformable structural elements, it is shown that the nonlinear HDS with a delay in the control system can be stabilized as a result of parametric synthesis by a linearized model.

A coordinated development model in water–socioeconomy-environment system (WSE system) and its application are presented in this paper. Based on complex system theory and the coordinated development idea, a set of indicators is provided with capacity to evaluate coordinated development degree in WSE system. Integrating variable fuzzy set theory (VFS) and entropy weight (EW) into set pair analysis method (SPA), the authors derive SPA-VFS-EW model to describe development degrees of WSE system. Employing coordination theory, the authors develop a coordination model based on Euclidean distance, followed by a coordinated development model. The derived model is applied to assess the coordinated development degree of WSE system in Shaanxi province. The results are found satisfactory. It also indicates that the proposed model in this paper can provide a novel method for evaluating the coordinated development in systems.

AW Wymore, the founder of the world’s first systems engineering department at the University of Arizona, has been at the origin of the system theoretic foundations of modeling and simulation. Wymore’s intellectual family tree, which goes back to Gauss and Weierstrass, is given. How the authors met, cooperated, and advocated system theory for the advancement of modeling and simulation are explained. The concept of model-based simulation was also one of the outcomes of this cooperation. This article reviews the emergence of systems-theory-based modeling and simulation languages and environments, such as the General System Theory implementor and Discrete Event System Specification, and their relation to Wymore’s concepts. We also discuss the application of powerful software development frameworks to support user-friendly access to systems concepts and to increase the power to support systems design and engineering.

Micromagnetic theory concerns detailed magnetization configurations and the magnetization-reversal processes in a ferromagnetic system. By combining the original micromagnetic theory with a dynamic description of magnetization orientations, one can simulate complete magnetization processes and calculate important properties such as magnetic hysteresis and magnetic switching dynamics. Not only can micromagnetic simulation predict complex magnetic-domain configurations in a ferromagnetic system, it also can generate transient pictures showing how a complex domain configuration forms. Very important among these systems are ferromagnetic thin films, particularly those used in sensors and recording devices. Micromagnetic modeling not only has enriched our understanding of existing magnetic films but has also been used to successfully predict the magnetic properties of new film microstructures created for particular applications.In this article, a brief introduction of micromagnetic-modeling theory will be given. Modeling of soft and hard magnetic films will be discussed separately through two examples illustrating the essence of micromagnetic-magnetization processes in these films.

A method for modeling hydraulic systems of hydromechanical devices based on the application of the volume rigidity theory - the property of the hydraulic system to keep its volume unchanged when the pressure of the working medium changes is proposed. The main analytical dependencies intended for modeling the hydraulic system are presented. An example of simulation and calculation of a hydromechanical shock absorber system which confirms the correctness and convenience of using the volume rigidity theory in modeling hydromechanical drive systems of complex machines is presented. The results of the numerical experiment make it possible to evaluate the functioning quality of the drive system under investigation to reveal the effect of the main design and system functional parameters on its operation. The graphs of the change in the main functional parameters of the shock absorber under investigation in real time are given, which make it possible to visually evaluate the results of a numerical experiment and draw conclusions about the need for modernization.

Abstract In this paper, we present a control system theory based modeling approach for the voltage-gated ion-channel Kv10.1 at different temperatures. Kv10.1 is expressed in the central nervous system and the brain of healthy humans. The study of the activity of this ion channel is important, because its activity is associated with the occurrence of cancer in different organs or tissues. According to systems and control theory, the voltage-gated channel Kv10.1 was assumed to be a linear time-invariant system and, as such, exhibits dynamic behavior. The experimental results show that Kv10.1 operates as a first-order model based on the input voltage step protocol and the measured macroscopic ion current output.

The article presents a detailed analysis of methods, methods, mechanisms, tools of decision theory for modeling information security systems. The basic terminological concepts are given, and their detailed definition is given. The combination of elements of decision theory with information security systems is shown. The connecting link for this is probability theory. The issue of decision-making procedure as a process is studied. Emphasis is placed on the qualitative parameters of the decision-making procedure that may be suitable for information protection purposes. Analogies have been made that indicate the applicability of decision theory methods to create a model of information security system. Implementation mechanisms are shown in decision-making algorithms. With the help of decision-making theory tools, it has been established that the modeling process can be formalized since both mathematical icons and verbalization. In general, the step-by-step process of designing an information security system is described. It is concluded that formalization as a type of symbolic modeling simultaneously with the application of decision theory is the best option for the descriptive part of the information security system. Modeling has been found to be the best scientific tool for combining theoretical calculations and the practical application of a wide range of research issues, including information security. To support the decision-making of the decision-maker, in other words the offender, in the field of information protection, it is important that the security officer or system administrator has experience and skills in regulated actions. Such actions are both well-known developments in this field of activity and a synthesis of already known algorithms to achieve the state of information security in general. Automation in decision-making is possible through the introduction of a decision support system that is widely used in automated systems: computer systems and networks, especially where there is a need to analyze significant data flows.

A typical approach for building and analyzing an object model is presented. It is determined that the tasks of analysis of nonlinear systems consist of: calculation of transients and established processes; determination of static and dynamic stability of the found processes; calculation of the sensitivity of the initial characteristics of the system to changes in its internal and external parameters. It is established that the efficiency of the analysis as a whole is determined not only by the efficiency of the algorithms of each of the stages of calculation, but also by the consistency of the mathematical apparatus that underlies them. It is determined that the calculation of transients is reduced to a problem with initial conditions in which the values of dependent variables are set for the same value of the independent variable, namely time. It is determined that nonlinear dynamic systems whose models are built on the qualitative theory of general differential equations are the main tool for solving many practical problems. It is established that this is explained by the following factors: the presence of a well-developed analytical apparatus and numerous methods of solving general differential equations; transparency and naturalness of general differential equations as a mathematical model to describe the process of transition of real objects from one state to another for external and internal causes; The availability of public qualitative methods of studying decisions of general differential equations, in particular methods of evaluation of stability, analysis of behavior within special points and their asymptotic behavior. The circumstances that lead to the fact that the systems described by conventional differential equations are a methodically very convenient material to create general algorithms for the study of dynamic systems. A mathematical model of sensitivity to the initial conditions is constructed on the basis of heterogeneous differential equations of the first variation, which opens up opportunities for solving the basic problems of analysis, which are: calculation of transitional processes and processes that have been established; Determination of static stability and calculation of parametric sensitivity, on the basis of a single algorithm for solving a two-point T-periodic marginal problem for conventional nonlinear differential equations.

This paper presents a systematic survey of the existing database system performance evaluation models based on the queueing theory. The continuous evolution of the methodologies developed is classified according to the mathematical modeling language used. This survey covers formal models – from queueing systems and queueing networks to queueing Petri nets. Some fundamentals of the queueing system theory are presented and queueing system models are classified according to service time distribution. The paper introduces queueing networks and considers several classification criteria applicable to such models. This survey distinguishes methodologies, which evaluate database performance at the integrated system level. Finally, queueing Petri nets are introduced, which combine modeling power of queueing networks and Petri nets. Two performance models within this formalism are investigated. We find that an insufficient amount of research effort is directed into the area of NoSQL data stores. Vast majority of models developed focus on traditional relational models. These models should be adapted to evaluate performance of non-relational data stores.

Analyses of overlapping international organizations (ios) in security governance has gradually reached mainstream research. However, theory building is still in its infancy. Thus, this article aims to substantiate theory building by applying exchange theory to io interplay. Empirically, the article focuses on the African peace and security regime, which constitutes an interlocking system of global and regional governance, integrating both African and non-African ios. The article argues that inter-institutional cooperation is primarily driven by a functional logic of resource complementarity, compelled by resource scarcity. However, in practice, ios do not easily complement each other. The article finds that divergence of security concepts; the absence of institutional match and the strife for institutional autonomy can hamper cooperation significantly.

Objectives. The creation of ontologies of subject areas is considered. The goal is to develop a mathematical model of ontology and the information system for ontological modeling. The task is to reduce the complexity of ontological modeling.Methods. As research methods, the theory of hybrid intelligence systems, the theory of sets, elements of mathematical logic, methods for developing the information systems, comparative analysis of information systems, informal analysis of information system were used.Results. Mathematical model of ontology using the concept of metaobject is developed. Ontological modelling based on this model involves specification, conceptualization and formalization. A glossary of terms is being built at the specification stage. At the conceptualization stage, objects in the subject area and their hierarchy are defined, and then connections between objects are identified. In the formalization stage, the metaobjects and the relationships between metaobjects that correspond to objects and the relationships between objects were defined. This is considered as the ontology of the subject area. During the actualization stage, the parameters of subject area objects and their values, classes, subclasses, and instances of classes were defined. Parameters, parameter values, classes, subclasses, and instances of classes are implemented in ontology as metaobjects of relative types. An information system with a unique architecture has been developed, namely a hybrid intelligence system for the automation of ontological modelling.Conclusion. The article conducts a comparative analysis of the developed information system with the systems used today for creation of ontologies. The analysis showed that the information system developed by paper author in most parameters is not inferior to considered systems and at the same time easier to use and expand. The mathematical model of ontology and the information system for ontological modeling of subject areas, developed by author, are tested in practical creation of ontology on ecology. On the basis of the conducted comparative analysis and informal analysis of practical use, it is concluded that ontological modeling with the help of the information system developed by author reduces the labor intensity and decreases the time of ontologies creation.

To accommodate the nonlinear and dynamic nature of thermal elastic process, Grey System Theory (GST) is adopted. By using this theory, GM (2, 1) and GM (1, 4) models are constructed. Real cutting experiment on a turning machine is conducted to establish and validate the model performance in terms of generalization ability. The comparison indicates that GM (2, 1) and GM (1, 4) perform better than other static and dynamic models such as Back Propagation Neural Network (BP) and Auto-regression Moving Average (ARMA). In addition, each of the two proposed model has their own advantages and they can be applied in practice.

The human lymphatic system (HLS) is a complex network of lymphatic organs linked through the lymphatic vessels. We present a graph theory-based approach to model and analyze the human lymphatic network. Two different methods of building a graph are considered: the method using anatomical data directly and the method based on a system of rules derived from structural analysis of HLS. A simple anatomical data-based graph is converted to an oriented graph by quantifying the steady-state fluid balance in the lymphatic network with the use of the Poiseuille equation in vessels and the mass conservation at vessel junctions. A computational algorithm for the generation of the rule-based random graph is developed and implemented. Some fundamental characteristics of the two types of HLS graph models are analyzed using different metrics such as graph energy, clustering, robustness, etc.
