Abstract. Research on mechanisms of organic matter degradation, bacterial activities, phytoplankton dynamics, and other processes has led to the development of numerous sophisticated water quality models. The earliest model, dating back to 1925, was based on first-order kinetics for organic matter degradation. The community-centered freshwater biogeochemistry model RIVE was initially developed in 1994 and has subsequently been integrated into several software programs such as Seneque-Riverstrahler, pyNuts-Riverstrahler, ProSe/ProSe-PA, and Barman. After 30 years of research, the use of different programming languages including QBasic, Visual Basic, Fortran, ANSI C, and Python, as well as parallel evolution and the addition of new formalisms, raises questions about their comparability. This paper presents a unified version of the RIVE model for the water column, including formalisms for bacterial communities (heterotrophic and nitrifying), primary producers, zooplankton, nutrients, inorganic carbon, and dissolved oxygen cycles. The unified RIVE model is open-source and implemented in Python 3 to create pyRIVE 1.0 and in ANSI C to create C-RIVE 0.32. The organic matter degradation module is validated by simulating batch experiments. The comparability of the pyRIVE 1.0 and C-RIVE 0.32 software is verified by modeling a river stretch case study. The case study considers the full biogeochemical cycles (microorganisms, nutrients, carbon, and oxygen) in the water column, as well as the effects of light and water temperature. The results show that the simulated concentrations of all state variables, including microorganisms and chemical species, are very similar for pyRIVE 1.0 and C-RIVE 0.32. This open-source project highly encourages contributions from the freshwater biogeochemistry community to further advance the project and achieve common objectives.

Abstract:
In companies / agencies need an information system for purchasing goods so that it can be done computerized and not done using Microsoft Office. Purchasing goods is an overall process used to hold something necessary in meeting the needs of goods in the company. The need for goods is very important in supporting the work process in a company / agency, the unavailability of goods can hamper performance. Supervision of requests is generally less than optimal, because many procurement request files are still stored in the File and sometimes some are torn and lost, so a system is needed that handles the request process. The process of making requests for goods in the procurement section has difficulty updating the availability of goods so that it hampers the process of demand for goods, so a module is made to be able to monitor the process of demand for goods and activities related to the purchase of goods. So that the procurement department can speed up the process of disbursing data, minimizing errors and data loss. The system that is created later uses a Visual .Net programming language with a MySQL database, all processes will be stored into the MySQL database.

PT TMMIN's logistics department is responsible for the smooth supply of component parts to the production line. In the delivery of parts, there is a problem, namely traffic disturbances in the PAD supply with the supply ip module. Both supplies cannot be in the same area due to insufficient area space. This situation causes the operator's workload to be a waste of steps and time. To overcome this problem, it is proposed to replace the part delivery tool that is currently used with a push dolly with a karakuri lifter bridge. Tool changes are carried out with 3M+1E aspects, namely method, material, man and environment. Change of equipment can affect factors such as no traffic disruptions with other supplies, reduction of SPS area, reduction of SPS distance to pp module and increasing company productivity efficiency.

Abstract:
Thermal management for white LEDs at the encapsulant level is an important task to ensure that the device can operate at a high optical and color performance. In this study, a steady-state thermal model was built wherein the finite element method was employed using MATLAB software to identify the temperature distribution. The spatial temperature distribution of the encapsulant and blue LED die region was easily simulated and predicted. The obtained results are not only helpful in detecting the temperature behavior inside the packaging volume but also meaningful for designing the package configuration. Abstract:
The impacts of reservoirs on greenhouse gas (GHG, including CH4: methane, CO2: carbon dioxide, and N2O: nitrous oxide) emissions and the biogeochemical cycling of nutrients (including C: carbon, N: nitrogen, P: phosphorus, and Si: silica) have received widespread attention. This work first estimates GHG emissions from global reservoirs and examines their long-term evolution, and then focuses on the main reservoirs in the Seine Basin to elucidate their contribution to GHG emissions and their impact on downstream nutrient and CO2 concentrations. Finally, the updated process-based Barman model was applied to these reservoirs to unravel the nutrient fates and CO2 dynamics in these reservoirs. At the global scale, the average fluxes of CH4, CO2, and N2O were 125.7 ± 21.2 mg C m-2 d-1, 415.7 ± 36.0 mg C m-2 d-1, and 0.28 ± 0.11 mg N m-2 d-1, respectively. Combing with the GranD database (global reservoir and dam database, v 1.3), we estimated that the annual GHG emission from global reservoirs amounted to 12.9 Tg CH4-C yr-1, 50.8 Tg CO2-C yr-1, and 0.04 Tg N2O-N yr-1. A high increase rate of GHG emissions occurred from 1950 to 1980, due to the rapid increases of the numbers and surface areas of global reservoirs at the same period. Focusing on the three main reservoirs of the Seine Basin, obvious seasonal patterns of CH4 and CO2 were observed, CH4 concentrations in these reservoirs were high in summer and autumn and low in winter and spring, and were significantly and positively correlated with water temperate and SDO (saturation of dissolved oxygen), which is in contrast to CO2. The three reservoirs were slight sources of GHG, with the average values of 6.6 mg CH4–C m–2 d–1, 132.7 mg CO2–C m–2 d–1, and 0.03 mg N2O–N m–2 d–1, which were lower than the average values of global reservoirs. Based on the long-term (1998-2018) water quality data and our field measurements (2019-2020), we found that the reservoirs significantly change their downstream water quality. They increase DOC (dissolved organic matter) and BDOC (biodegradable DOC) concentrations, while decrease the concentrations of DIN (dissolved inorganic nitrogen), PO43- (orthophosphate), DSi (dissolved silica), and CO2 during their emptying periods. The mass-balance calculation revealed that these reservoirs retained 16-53%, 26-48%, 22-40%, and 36-76% of the inputs of DIN, PO43-, DSi, and SM, respectively. Qualitative analysis suggested that the mixing effect of entering water (quantity and quality) and biogeochemical processes in these reservoirs are the two dominant factors affecting reservoir water quality changes, and thus resulting in the changes in downstream water quality. The application of the Barman model satisfactorily simulates the changes of water quality variables (nutrients and CO2) and explicitly unravels nutrient (C, N, P, and Si) fates in these reservoirs. The phytoplankton assimilation (for NO3-, PO43-, and DSi) and benthic denitrification (for NO3-) are the dominant processes in removing nutrients. The precipitation of CaCO3 and CO2 emission are responsible for the DIC removal in these reservoirs. The results of scenario analysis suggested that reservoir trophic states (P concentrations) and morphological characteristics (mean depth) would significantly affect the retention efficiencies of NO3- and DSi, and thus its biogeochemical functions to downstream reservoirs

Abstract:
In this work we study, in the framework of the bound state approach to the SU(3) Skyrme model, the baryonic number—two strange sector. We analyze situations where the two baryons involved are bound to forni the so called dibaryons and where two free baryons are simply scattered. In the first case, with the help of the generalized axially symmetric ansatz, the dibaryon spectrum is calculated and compared with the one obtained in the non relativistic quark model. A prediction about the existente of the H—particle is also made. In the second case we have used the product ansatz to develop a formalism to study the baryon—baryon interaction, calculating the corresponding potential. Detailed expressions and numeric results are presented for the AN interaction, with the central, spin—spin and tensor components of the potential being obtained and compared with other phenomenological results.

Abstract:
Three theoretical models about negotiation between private insurers and providers are developed and their results are simulated and analyzed. The models try to catch what would be a meeting between an insurer and a provider tied each other by an association contract bargaining the health insurance price and the medical good/service price. The main problem is the agent-principal relationship in an environment with asymmetric information. Both agents are restricted by consumer behavior. The basis for the bargain process is the Stackelberg model for oligopolies, which gives two scenes: one with insurer leadership and other with provider leadership.

Abstract:
This thesis explores strategic communication management within the non-profit sector. Communication models need to be adapted to the specific sector as different sectors require different approaches of strategic communication management. In the spring of 2013, the non-profit organization Save the Children Sweden initiated a communication model based on volunteer communicators. The following study explores how non-profit organizations can manage communications with a focus on volunteers as a communication resource. The applied research questions concern how volunteers may be integrated into communication activities, the opportunities and challenges connected to involving volunteer communicators and how this may affect the role of the organization's employed communicators. The method applied is a case study of Save the Children Sweden. Semi-structured interviews have been conducted with both employed and volunteer communicators. The theoretical framework focuses on organizations’ internal and external communications. Results indicate that integration of volunteer communicators can improve outreach at the local level and thereby increase the visibility of the organization’s activities across the country. The model furthermore creates possibilities for increased volunteer participation as well as making use of volunteers’ skills and experiences. The most significant challenge attributed to this model is the length of time it takes for communication processes to be completed, due to activities being based on volunteers. A further challenge is to motivate volunteers to continued engagement. In conclusion, the communication model of Save the Children Sweden indicates that volunteers are an important communication resource in non-profit organizations’ local advocacy work.

Abstract:
The maximally supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in four-dimensional Minkowski space is an exceptional model of mathematical physics. Even more so in the planar limit, where the theory is believed to be integrable. In particular, the tree-level scattering amplitudes were shown to be invariant under the Yangian of the superconformal algebra psu(2,2|4). This infinite-dimensional symmetry is a hallmark of integrability. In this dissertation we explore connections between these amplitudes and integrable models. Our aim is to lay foundations for an efficient integrability-based computation of amplitudes. To this end, we characterize Yangian invariants within the quantum inverse scattering method, which is an extensive toolbox for integrable spin chains. Making use of this setup, we develop methods for the construction of Yangian invariants. We show that the algebraic Bethe ansatz can be specialized to yield Yangian invariants for u(2). Our approach also allows to interpret these Yangian invariants as partition functions of vertex models. What is more, we establish a unitary Graßmannian matrix model for the construction of u(p,q|m) Yangian invariants with oscillator representations. In a special case our formula reduces to the Brezin-Gross-Witten model. We apply an integral transformation due to Bargmann to our unitary Graßmannian matrix model, which turns the oscillators into spinor helicity-like variables. Thereby we are led to a refined version of the Graßmannian integral formula for certain amplitudes. The most decisive differences are that we work in Minkowski signature and that the integration contour is fixed to be a unitary group manifold. We compare Yangian invariants defined by our integral to amplitudes and recently introduced deformations thereof.

This study analyzes how bank creditors vote on corporate reorganization filings. Brazil offers an excellent scenario for bankruptcy research: on the 10th anniversary of the Brazilian Bankruptcy Code, the number of reorganization filings skyrocketed, increasing from 110 in 2005 to 1863 in 2016. Our work is both theoretical and empirical; we suggest a cooperative game setting to explain creditor behavior, and we apply pooled cross-sectional data from 125 reorganization filings in Brazil from 2006 to 2016. We find evidence that the haircut proposed by debtors is the main factor driving bank creditors’ decisions, rather than firm size or age, as the traditional literature proposes. In accordance with our theoretical model, the proportion of senior debt is not relevant in explaining bank responses to reorganizations. By employing a unique dataset, we contribute to the bankruptcy literature by showing that the unified creditors’ framework does not apply. By looking at bank conflict at the interest level, we verify that the approval rate for reorganization filings decreases sharply, which indicates that coordination failures result from negotiation problems and often lead to liquidation. Due to legal and process similarities with countries such as the United States and Canada, the study also offers important insights regarding bankruptcy cases in general.

Pant, Hom Moorti. "Tariff determination in general equilibrium : a bargain-theoretic approach to policy modelling." Phd thesis, 1992. http://hdl.handle.net/1885/117273.

Abstract:
Government policies with redistributive implications have been a source of many social and political conflicts. Until recently, positive economics has lacked a consistent analytical framework that could explain how such policies are formed and how they respond to exogenous shocks. This study makes a contribution towards this direction by offering a consistent theoretical framework for short-run policy modelling. Assuming that tariff rates are the only available instruments of a government’s redistributive policy this study addresses the following two specific questions: (i) how the tariff rates are determined; (ii) and how do they respond to exogenous shocks? To answer these questions, a general equilibrium model of a political economy is developed by combining a model of the political sphere with a Ricardo-Viner type model of the economic sphere. Policies are determined by strategic interactions between government and the conflicting interest groups in the political sphere which, in turn, determine the welfare of the interest groups in the economic sphere and political support for the government in the political sphere. The conflicting interest groups may spend resources in predatory political activities or may choose to cooperate. A general equilibrium of the political economy is obtained when both the political and the economic spheres are simultaneously in equilibrium. Under fairly general conditions, it is shown that at least one equilibrium exists in a political economy whether it exhibits cooperative behaviour in the political sphere or not This study has employed the analytical framework of cooperative-bargaining theory in obtaining a general equilibrium model of the political economy. This approach is taken because a noncooperative equilibrium is not necessarily Pareto efficient Several interesting results follow from the comparative static properties of the model. In particular, it is shown that: (i) the import-competing sector receives increased protection if the relative price of the home importable falls in the world market; (ii) the protection afforded to a particular sector declines if the domestic endowment of factors moves in favour of that sector, and (iii) so long as the distribution of relative bargaining power remains unaffected by the shocks, the response of the tariff rate to the shocks will be independent of the distribution the bargaining power. These analytical results are very similar to ones that follow from the maximization of a conservative social welfare function. The implications are that: (i) a government’s redistributive policy could be modelled as an equilibrium outcome of a bargaining process between the organized interest groups holding conflicting interests on the level of the redistributive policy; and (ii) the bargaining process may be viewed as the mechanism of generating a conservative social welfare function. The self-interest, and public-interest approaches in policy modelling can thus be reconciled.

Abstract:
Category theory provides various guiding principles for modal logic and its semantic modeling. In particular, Stone duality, or “syntax-semantics duality”, has been a prominent theme in semantics of modal logic since the early days of modern modal logic. This chapter focuses on duality and a few other categorical principles, and brings to light how they underlie a variety of concepts, constructions, and facts in philosophical applications as well as the model theory of modal logic. In the first half of the chapter, I review the syntax-semantics duality and illustrate some of its functions in Kripke semantics and topological semantics for propositional modal logic. In the second half, taking Kripke’s semantics for quantified modal logic and David Lewis’s counterpart theory as examples, I demonstrate how we can dissect and analyze assumptions behind different semantics for first-order modal logic from a structural and unifying perspective of category theory. (As an example, I give an analysis of the import of the converse Barcan formula that goes farther than just “increasing domains”.) It will be made clear that categorical principles play essential roles behind the interaction between logic, semantics, and ontology, and that category theory provides powerful methods that help us both mathematically and philosophically in the investigation of modal logic.

Abstract:
Guillaume de Saluste Du Bartas (1544–90) is an essential figure for understanding the diversity and strength of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century English poetry. His works were read, translated, and imitated more widely than any other non-biblical literary work in early modern England and Scotland, leading Scottish and French literary culture to shape the development of English epic poetry and inspire new kinds of popular devotional verse. Thanks to James VI and I’s support, Du Bartas’ scriptural poems became emblems of international Protestantism that were cherished even more highly in England and Scotland than on the continent. His creative vision helped inexperienced devotional writers to find a voice as well as providing a model that Protestant poets (like Philip Sidney, Edmund Spenser, Anne Bradstreet, John Milton, and Lucy Hutchinson) would resist, transform, and, ultimately, reject. This long-needed book examines Du Bartas’ legacy in England and Scotland, sensitive to the different cultural situations in which his works were read, discussed, and creatively imitated. The first part shows how James VI of Scotland played a decisive role in the Huguenot poet’s reception history, culminating in Josuah Sylvester’s translation Devine Weekes and Workes (1605). The second examines seventeenth-century divine epic, religious narrative, and popular devotional verse forms that reworked Du Bartas’ poetic structures to introduce meditative and figurative components that provided new possibilities for imaginative expression.

Abstract:
Chapter 4 deals with the stability of the proton, hence of hydrogen, and how to reconcile that stability with the baryon number nonconservation (or baryon conservation) needed to establish a matter–antimatter imbalance in the infant universe. Sakharov’s three conditions for establishing a matter–antimatter imbalance are presented. Grand unified theories and experimental searches for proton decay are described. The concept of spontaneous symmetry breaking is introduced in describing the electroweak phase transition in the infant universe. That transition is treated as the potential site for introducing the imbalance between quarks and antiquarks, via either baryogenesis or leptogenesis models. The up–down quark mass difference is presented as essential for providing the stability of hydrogen and of the deuteron, which serves as a crucial stepping stone in stellar hydrogen-burning reactions that generate the energy and elements needed for life. Constraints on quark masses from lattice QCD calculations and violations of chiral symmetry are discussed.

Abstract:
This chapter considers the implications of the on-demand economy for consumers and markets. It shows how, for both consumers and workers, the on-demand bargain can unravel rather quickly: users potentially end up paying a much higher price and receive worse-quality services than promised. In addition, the gig-economy business model can lead to significant tax losses, as taxpayers are left to make up the shortfall and subsidize the industry in myriad ways. When these problems for consumers, workers, and taxpayers are added to the questionable economics behind many platforms’ business models, as discussed in the first chapter, it is not difficult to see why some suggest that the platforms should be banned. This chapter, however, argues against such drastic moves: we would destroy all benefits and innovation, and leave at least some consumers and workers worse off. Employment law is key to creating a level playing field for competition, which fosters innovation.

Chapter 5 presents experiments illuminating the cosmological evolution of the universe and its energy budget, accounting for its longevity. The observations establishing the Hubble’s Law linear relationship between intergalactic distances and recession speeds, and their interpretation in terms of the expansion of cosmic space, are reviewed. The evidence for big bang cosmology from nucleosynthesis and the cosmic microwave background (CMB) is presented. The measurements that establish the ongoing acceleration of the cosmic expansion are reviewed: distant supernova recession speeds, tiny CMB anisotropies, baryon acoustic oscillations, and gravitational lensing. Excellent model fits to these data, assuming general relativity, cold dark matter, and a cosmological constant, lead to precise determinations of both the age of the universe and the energy budget of the universe. The cosmic history of the expansion rate and the energy budget are inferred, along with the remarkable flatness of cosmic space within the observable portion of the universe.

Abstract:
The resurgence of asexualism in Germany in the nineteenth century coincided with the Naturphilosophie movement associated with Romanticism which arose in reaction to mechanical models of the universe, among them Baron d’Holbach’s. Johann Gottlieb Fichte, a Kant disciple, claimed that the “absolute ego” creates it’s own reality, which we mistake for the “real world”. Friedrich Wilhelm Schelling, the “philosopher king” of the Romantics, attempted a balance between Fichte’s subjective idealism and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s (relative) objectivism. In general, nature philosophers granted equal weight to reason and to the imagination, and adopted a pantheistic theology, influenced by Baruch Spinoza. Franz Joseph Schelver believed the production of seeds was a vegetative process. August Henschell dismissed Koelreuter’s hybrids as artifacts resulting from experimental damage. He thought the release of pollen freed the spiritual essence of the plant from base matter. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel also challenged the sexual theory of plants.

Abstract:
This book predicts the decline of today's professions and describes the people and systems that will replace them. In an Internet society, according to Richard Susskind and Daniel Susskind, we will neither need nor want doctors, teachers, accountants, architects, the clergy, consultants, lawyers, and many others, to work as they did in the 20th century. The Future of the Professions explains how 'increasingly capable systems' -- from telepresence to artificial intelligence -- will bring fundamental change in the way that the 'practical expertise' of specialists is made available in society. The authors challenge the 'grand bargain' -- the arrangement that grants various monopolies to today's professionals. They argue that our current professions are antiquated, opaque and no longer affordable, and that the expertise of their best is enjoyed only by a few. In their place, they propose six new models for producing and distributing expertise in society. The book raises important practical and moral questions. In an era when machines can out-perform human beings at most tasks, what are the prospects for employment, who should own and control online expertise, and what tasks should be reserved exclusively for people? Based on the authors' in-depth research of more than ten professions, and illustrated by numerous examples from each, this is the first book to assess and question the relevance of the professions in the 21st century.

Abstract:
In literary and cultural studies, “tradition” is a word everyone uses but few address critically. In this book, the author offers a wide-ranging exploration of the creative power of literary tradition, from the middle ages to the twenty-first century, revealing in new ways how it helps writers and readers make new works and meanings. The book argues that the best way to understand tradition is by examining the moments when a writer takes up an old text and writes something new out of a dialogue with that text and the promptings of the present situation. The book examines Petrarch as a user, instigator, and victim of tradition. It shows how Chaucer became the first great English writer by translating and adapting a minor poem by Boccaccio. It investigates how Ariosto, Tasso, and Spenser made new epic meanings by playing with assumptions, episodes, and phrases translated from their predecessors. It then analyzes how the Victorian novelist Elizabeth Gaskell drew on tradition to address the new problem of urban deprivation in Mary Barton. And, finally, it looks at how the Kenyan writer Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o, in his 2004 novel Wizard of the Crow, reflects on biblical, English literary, and African traditions. Drawing on key theorists, critics, historians, and sociologists, and stressing the international character of literary tradition, the book illuminates the not entirely free choices readers and writers make to create meaning in collaboration and competition with their models.

Abstract The quantum Rabi model (QRM) is widely regarded as one of the fundamental models of quantum optics. One of its generalizations is the asymmetric quantum Rabi model (AQRM), obtained by introducing a symmetry-breaking term depending on a parameter $$\varepsilon \in \mathbb {R}$$ to the Hamiltonian of the QRM. The AQRM was shown to possess degeneracies in the spectrum for values $$\epsilon \in 1/2\mathbb {Z}$$ via the study of the divisibility of the so-called constraint polynomials. In this article, we aim to provide further insight into the structure of Juddian solutions of the AQRM by extending the divisibility properties and the relations between the constraint polynomials with the solution of the AQRM in the Bargmann space. In particular we discuss a conjecture proposed by Masato Wakayama.

Abstract This chapter covers some of the major highlights of the metaphysics of modality in the 20th century. It first traces how Kant’s views became a foil both for the phenomenological tradition in Husserl and Heidegger and for the analytic tradition in Russell and Quine. It then turns to the resurgence of modal theorizing in the second half of the 20th century, most especially through the contributions of Barcan Marcus in modal logic and the Barcan formulas, Kripke in modal semantics and the necessary a priori, and David Lewis in modal metaphysics and modal realism.

Abstract:
Abstract This chapter considers some typical cases of metaphysical necessity. First, it is argued that nothing exists metaphysically necessarily, and so everything exists contingently. This requires a comment on the Barcan Formulas: it is argued that we should reject the Barcan Formulas for logical, and hence for metaphysical, modality, by rejecting an existence assumption in classical logic. The chapter then considers the extent to which essentialist necessity claims, such as the essentiality of kind, can be accommodated by the account of metaphysical necessity. It is proposed that essentialist claims may be accommodated as claims of generalized identity. The chapter also addresses some epistemological issues. Metaphysical necessity is often associated with the necessary a posteriori. The chapter explains where a posteriori knowledge might figure in knowledge of conditional metaphysical necessities, using the template of deduction models of modal knowledge. It is further suggested that the distinction between thinking and objective thinking can help to shed light on the notion of conceivability as a guide to possibility. We may distinguish between conceivability understood in terms of what is thinkable, and conceivability understood in terms of what is objectively thinkable. Logic helps us to explore the first kind; transcendental philosophy helps us to explore the second.

Abstract:
Several seventeenth-century poets explored ways to compose verse meditations that showed readers how to use scriptural poems like Devine Weekes as a devotional aid. Joseph Hall and Francis Quarles advocated new forms of non-lyric meditation, a literary mode especially practised by women writers. As such poems offered a greater role to the self as an interpretive agent, scriptural poets like Anne Southwell and Edward Browne stretched Du Bartas’ models in ways that responded to their personal, political, and social circumstances. Even though historical and meditative verse forms blended into each other, Anne Bradstreet’s The Tenth Muse distinguishes sharply between the two modes in order to cast her as a conservative historical poet writing under Du Bartas’ shadow.

Abstract:
Abstract Until quite recently the study of sexual selection was dominated by theoretical issues. However, empirical research on female choice and male combat has increased dramatically, with field and laboratory studies of individually identifiable organisms being the most frequent approach. Every empirical study has to address the question of whether male-male competition or female choice generates the process of sexual selection. Although these two modes of sexual selection were clearly defined by Darwin, it is not always easy to resolve the relative importance of the two processes, nor to decide whether a given structure or behaviour demonstrates one or the other, or both. Different taxa appear to rely on male-male competition and female choice to different degrees, but the reason for interspecific differences in the relative importance of the two modes of sexual selection remains largely unknown. These issues will be discussed further in section 2.2.

Abstract:
This paper develops an equilibrium model of the labor market with hours worked, offand on-the-job search, and single as well as multiple jobholders. The model quantitatively accounts for the incidence of and worker flows in and out of multiple jobholding. Central to the model’s mechanism is that holding a second job ties the worker to her primary employer, at the benefits of having a stronger outside option to bargain with the outside employer. The model is also informative of how multiple jobholding shapes the outcomes that are typically the focus of search models. Multiple jobholding has opposing effects on job-to-job transitions that mostly offset each other. At the same time, since the option of having second jobs makes the main job survive longer, it reduces job separations and increases the employment rate. These findings have material implications for the calibration of standard models which ignore multiple jobholding.

Tanika, Lisa, Betha Lusiana, and Adis Hendriatna. Simulasi Dampak Perubahan Tutupan Lahan dan Iklim di DAS Citarum Hulu dengan Model GenRiver: Kalibrasi model dan analisa sensitivitas. World Agroforestry, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.5716/wp20048.pdf.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Based on extensive remapping of the northeast Thelon Basin region in Nunavut, uranium exploration criteria are adapted from those of the Athabasca Basin in Saskatchewan, as basin-specific paradigms. The Athabasca Basin straddles the Rae and Hearne cratons and the Taltson magmatic zone, whereas the Thelon Basin rests entirely within the Rae Craton. In the Athabasca Basin, four unconformity-bounded siliciclastic sequences with different paleocurrents record a complex depositional history, whereas the Thelon Formation is a single, albeit cyclic siliciclastic unit with uni-modal paleocurrents. Beneath the Athabasca Basin, amphibolite-grade, conductive graphitic-pyritic-Paleoproterozoic units localize all major deposits. Conductor analogues below the Thelon Basin are barren, impermeable, black slate of anchizone to lower-greenschist-facies grade. Instead, the Thelon uranium deposit host rocks are Neoarchean pyritic greywacke and epiclastic rocks that range in metamorphic grade from lower- to upper-amphibolite facies. Similar mineralogical sources, saline brines, alteration (fluorapatite, aluminum-phosphate-sulphate minerals, chlorite, clays, and desilicification), and reactivated intersecting faults focused unconformity-type uranium mineralization in each basin. Previously published ages for pre-ore fluorapatite cements of the Athabasca and Thelon basins (1638 versus 1688 to 1667 Ma, respectively) reaffirm their independent diagenetic-hydrothermal histories.

Abstract:
This paper develops a search and matching model where firms and workers are allowed to form matches (jobs) that can be formal or informal. Workers optimally choose the level of schooling acquired before entering the labor market and whether to search for a job as unemployed or as self-employed. Firms optimally decide the formality status of the job and bargain with workers over wages. The resulting equilibrium size of the informal sector is an endogenous function of labor market parameters and institutions. The paper focuses on an increasingly important institution: a “dual” social protection system whereby contributory benefits in the formal sector coexist with non-contributory benefits in the informal sector. Preferences are estimated for the system—together with all the other structural parameters of the labor market—using labor force survey data from Mexico and the time-staggered entry across municipalities of a non-contributory social program. Policy experiments show that informality may be reduced by either increasing or decreasing the payroll tax rate in the formal sector. They also show that a universal social security benefit system would decrease informality, incentivize schooling, and increase productivity at a relative fiscal cost similar to that generated by the current system.

Full text
Abstract:
The Geo-mapping for Energy and Minerals (GEM) and Targeted Geoscience Initiative (TGI) programs conducted extensive collaborative research on mineral systems with iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) and affiliated deposits in prospective settings of Canada. Regional alteration mapping as well as geochemical and geophysical modelling undertaken under the GEM program documented the evolution of polymetallic metasomatic systems with iron-oxide and alkali-calcic alteration and led to an increased recognition of the mineral potential of poorly explored areas and historic deposits of the Great Bear magmatic zone in the Northwest Territories, thus providing a solid framework for exploration. Early and barren albitite corridors form across the mineral systems and locally host uranium mineralization associated with telescoping of alteration facies by tectonic activity during the metasomatic growth of the systems. Subsequent to albitization, high-temperature Ca-Fe and Ca-K-Fe alteration form iron oxide-apatite (± rare-earth element) mineralization and IOCG variants rich in cobalt and other critical metals, respectively. Systems that further mature to K-Fe alteration form IOCG mineralization and can evolve to mineralized near-surface phyllic alteration and epithermal caps. Transitional facies also host polymetallic skarn mineralization. Rare-earth element enrichments within iron oxide-apatite zones are strongest where remobilization has occurred, particularly along deformation zones. The TGI projects documented the pertinence for a GEM activity in the Great Bear magmatic zone and subsequently synthesized GEM geoscientific data into a system-scale, ore-deposit model, and outlined criteria for mineral resource assessment. This model, and newly developed field-mapping and lithogeochemical tools were shown to be efficient mineral exploration and regional mapping methods in Canada and were also applied to the archetype IOCG deposit, Olympic Dam, and other deposits in the Olympic Cu-Au metallogenic province of Australia. Case examples also include the Romanet Horst in the Trans-Hudson Orogen (second phase of GEM), the Central Mineral Belt in Labrador (TGI), the Wanapitei Lake district in Ontario (private sector exploration results used by TGI), and the Bondy gneiss complex in Quebec (TGI).

Full text
