This research aims to identify (1) the formd of adverbial modality markers in Quran translation texts, and (2) the categories modified by the modality markers. The data of this research is all lingual units containing adverbial modality markerd in Quran translation texts that has language ethics. Data collection utilized reading and documentation techniques, whereas data analysis utilized identity and constituent analysis methods. The results of this research identify the forms of adverbial modality markers in Quran translation texts to be in base and derivative forms. The base forms mark the modality of certainty, sincerity, determina-tion, causality, and obligation. (1) Modality of certainty is marked by pasti, (2) Modality of sincerity is mar-ked by sungguh,). (3) Modality of determination is marked by tetap, (4) Modality of causality is marked with saling. (5) Modality of obligation is marked by harus,). The derivative forms include repetition, afixation, combination, and particleization. Repetition form marks modalities of (a) expectation, with marker mudah-mudahan and sekali-kali, (b) metaphorization, with markers seakan-akan. (2) Affixation form marks modali-ties of (a) sincerity, with marker sesungguhnya (b) imagination, with marker sekiranya, berkehendak, and hendaknya which translate from (c) will, with marker berkehendak. (3) Word combination form marks modalities of (a) expectation, with marker insya Allah, insya Allah, hampir saja, and barangsiapa. (4) Particleization form is found on modalities janganlah, tentulah, tetaplah, hendaklah, and pastilah. Three cate-gories are found to be modified by the modality markers: (1) adjectives/ adjective phrase, (2) noun/noun phrase (frequencyand (3) verb/verb phrase. (1) APM kepastian dengan penanda pasti sepadan dengan BA لَ (lam penguat), memang. Abstract:
Abstract One of the most perfect revealer of modality is pouvoir. At the time of speech acts realization, this verb will present various grammatical and lexical forms such as tense, modus and aspect which are categorized as manasuka elements in Indonesian (Samsuri 1981: 248). Modus can function as the revealer of modality, revealing act of speaker to what they said (Riegel et al.), while Le Querlier (1996: 13) said that modus, temps (tense) and aspect are overlapping in French. The three elements will be analyzed with intralingual equivalent method with hubung banding menyamakan technique (HBS). The revealer of modality in Indonesian is not using tense as adverb of time. Aspect is shown with imperfective and perfective aspect that reveal modality in French. Keywords: Modality, Pouvoir, Overlapping Abstrak Salah satu verba pengungkap modalitas yang paling sempurna adalah verba pouvoir (Benveniste, 1974: 188).

Abstract:
AbstractThere is a growing recognition in psychosis research of the importance of hallucinations in modalities other than the auditory. This has focused attention on cognitive and neural processes that might be shared by, and which might contribute distinctly to, hallucinations in different modalities. In this article, I address some issues around the modality-generality of cognitive and neural processes in hallucinations, including the role of perceptual and reality-monitoring systems, top-down and bottom-up processes in relation to the psychological and neural substrates of hallucinations, and the phenomenon of simultaneous multimodal hallucinations of the same entity. I suggest that a functional systems approach, inspired by some neglected aspects of the writings of A. R. Luria, can help us to understand patterns of hallucinatory experience across modalities and across clinical and non-clinical groups. Understanding the interplay between modality-general and modality-specific processes may bear fruit for improved diagnosis and therapeutic approaches to dealing with distressing hallucinations.

Abstract:
Multimodal learning with incomplete input data (missing modality) is very practical and challenging. In this work, we conduct an in-depth analysis of this challenge and find that modality dominance has a significant negative impact on the model training, greatly degrading the missing modality performance. Motivated by Grad-CAM, we introduce a novel indicator, gradients, to monitor and reduce modality dominance which widely exists in the missing-modality scenario. In aid of this indicator, we present a novel Gradient-guided Modality Decoupling (GMD) method to decouple the dependency on dominating modalities. Specifically, GMD removes the conflicted gradient components from different modalities to achieve this decoupling, significantly improving the performance. In addition, to flexibly handle modal-incomplete data, we design a parameter-efficient Dynamic Sharing (DS) framework which can adaptively switch on/off the network parameters based on whether one modality is available. We conduct extensive experiments on three popular multimodal benchmarks, including BraTS 2018 for medical segmentation, CMU-MOSI, and CMU-MOSEI for sentiment analysis. The results show that our method can significantly outperform the competitors, showing the effectiveness of the proposed solutions. Our code is released here: https://github.com/HaoWang420/Gradient-guided-Modality-Decoupling.

Abstract:
Abstract The obligation modality is widely used by natural language speakers. Indeed, the speakers do not cease, in an interactive exchange, to appeal to it to oblige the addressee to do something or to act according to their wishes and their desires. In this article, we will focus on two modalities that are part of the modality of obligation, namely the deontic modality and the injunctive modality. We will try to understand not only their modes of operation but also why certain statements are better chosen than others in order to contribute to the success of a given intentionality. We therefore propose to study the two modalities and explain the tension that develops between the partners of the communicative act.

AbstractThis study deals with the interpersonal meaning revealed the use of modality system in students’ hortatory exposition text at one of universities in Ciamis. Five texts of students’ hortatory exposition were analyzed to find out what types of modality are used and what interpersonal meaning which is contained through modality system. This study employed Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) based on Halliday and Matthiessen’s (2004) framework since it can seek and identify the level of language structured which makes kinds of meaning. The findings showed that all of clauses which contained modality system indicated author’s interpersonal meaning with different value of language in the texts. The different types of language value and polarity also indicated the author’s interpersonal meaning in the texts. In addition, this analysis concluded that five texts comparised several modalization and modulation types which appeared with different ranks.

In a talkshow, there is the attitude of the speaker when discussing his opinion through the use of words, phrases and clauses that can be analyzed. The analysis in this study focuses on Epistemic Modality in a talkshow of Mata Najwa on Trans7. The thesis with the title Epistemic Modality in Najwa's Eye Impressions Episode "PSBB Rasa Kompromi" aims to describe four types of epistemic modality found in Mata Najwa's shows. Researchers used the Alwi Epistemic Modality theory to analyze the data found on the object of study. The approach to this research uses a qualitative descriptive approach or method. The data used in this study are in the form of vocabulary in sentences that have elements of the Epistemic Modality. The data source was obtained from Mata Najwa's broadcast of the PSBB Rasa Kompromi episode on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. Then the data collection came from the video in the form of a typed interview transcript. The data analysis technique used was identification, grouping each type of epistemic modality, processing, then concluding. The results showed that the four types of epistemic modalities were found based on appropriate methods and techniques on the object of the Mata Najwa talkshow including possibility, practice, necessity, and certainty. Keywords: epistemic modality, PSBB, talkshow, Mata Najwa Abstrak Media merupakan sarana informasi yang menyampaikan sebuah pesan mengenai suatu masalah yang sedang dialami. Abstract:
Gender discussions are still fundamental to (trans)feminist struggles and have an open field to new reflections that contribute to the topic. This issue is important to phenomenology from Simone de Beauvoir to Judith Butler and other contemporary feminist phenomenologists. Considering the contributions already unveiled by these authors, this paper aims to rethink the conceptualization of gender through the concept of existential modality found in Merleau-Ponty and Heidegger in a non-systematic theoretical review. The concept of existential modality implies possibilities as fundamental in the ontological structure of being. Here, possibility has existential and open characteristics that describe ways of being, of linking, meaning and make possible being and meaning. Gender as an existential modality reveals a spectrum of potencies that is realized and established in the corporeal and situated existence of being. This work allows a dialogue with the reflections already made by the feminist authors and the opening to deepen the discussions about gender. Abstract:
The article examines the place of Charles Ballyʼs paper «Syntaxe de la modalité explicite» in the body of work of the prominent Swiss linguist on the category of modality and identifies the role of his ideas in modern description of syntax. In Charles Ballyʼs linguistic heritage the concept of modality plays an exceptionally important role. His views o n the modal organization of the sentence are based on the theoretical perspective to describing the phenomenon of language proposed by his teacher Ferdinand de Saussure. Charles Ballyʼs theory of modality is an integral part of his general theory of enunciation. Identification of the two components in the semantic structure of the sentence, namely the modus and the dictum, becomes some kind of a bridge between Saussureʼs intellectualized grammar of language and the grammar of speech, which specifically entails the study of emotional and affective factors, and also stylistic aspects of human language. According to Charles Bally, the modus is a combination of a modal verb, which may contain a variety of shades of opinion, feeling or will, and a modal subject, which can represent a speaking subject and also other subjects. Charles Ballyʼs studies significantly influenced the interpretation of the category of modality in modern linguistics. However, not every theory based on the idea of identifying the modus and the dictum in the sentence can be theoretically convincing. Identifying the dictum with the representation of the objective, and the modus with the subjective led to unsubstantiated theoretical opposition of objective and subjective modality. Only misunderstanding of Charles Ballyʼs ideas might explain the attempts to attribute the ability to express the category of evaluation and emotionality to the modus. Charles Ballyʼs original theoretical views proved to be productive in the development of the cognitive theory of modality, which in its turn is based on other theoretical views on the phenomenon of language. Within this theory, modality is defined as a category that describes the mental-sensory differentiation of the speakerʼs thoughts in the process of sentence formation. According to the active approach to sentence interpretation, the subject of the modus in cognitive modality theory is only the speaker. The paper «Syntaxe de la modalité explicite», which Charles Bally described as a program of studies, has not lost its relevance. The task of describing the semantic shades of modality, as well as various forms of its expression, the principles of classification of modal verbs outlined in the paper as the goal of linguistics, remains largely unresolved today.
