Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

The authors base their research on observations and in the literature concerning different forms of mobility of human beings and food products, distances and territorial anchoring. They continue by addressing the paradoxes in acculturation processes that occur during identity (re)construction in food consumption and eating habits. They focus on the role of cross-border migration, in the spreading of genuine country-specific products and/or local food specialties of migrant populations in their host countries. What are the different definitions of the distance/s between the migrant and his home country and the host culture? What role does the migrant play in the spreading of these eating habits? How does the acculturation process work? What different forms of territorial anchoring account the spreading of these genuine country-specific foods?

Abstract:
Territorial mobility is an inherent element for survival and it is a common feature of rural area. It reflects the whole life style and livelihood pattern of a community. Therefore, territorial mobility could be an important aspect of living and coping with external world particularly in the traditional communities of rural Nepal. This paper seeks to explore the changing territorial mobility among the Rai people from Sampang area of Bhojpur district in Majhkirant region. The mixed method, both quantitative and qualitative is adopted for data collection. The formal instruments such as household survey, focus group discussion, mobility register, and the folk sources such as folk songs, local sayings, proverbs, local events were used to generate the data together with the observation method as well. Findings indicate that all forms of mobility of Majhkirant people in which they participate can be summarized into two categories i.e. basai sarai and ghumphir. The long-term moves such as Muglan bhasine, Madhesh jharne, ghar khana jane, desh nikala hune are the specific types of basai sarai. On the other hand all types of short-term mobility normally of short distance are part of ghumphir which are common forms of movement among the people of this area. The feature and frequency of various types of moves vary among Rai and non-Rai community and it also differs over time and space. For example, pitri garna jane, nwagi garna jane, mang garna jane, kaliya jane are more noticeable among Rai community while tirthayatra, chardham jane, astu selauna jane, puranma jane, katha sunna jane are commonly found among non-Rai (Brahmin community). Similarly, moves such as, Lahur jane, phukna jane, ghar banauna jane are associated with Rai people whereas moves like jajamani garna jane, puranma jane, katha bhanna jane are primarily confined to Brahmin community. Many other forms of localized moves were also noticed and all of them had their linkages with participation in socio-cultural, professional, political and economic spheres of rural life. Some moves associated with kinship and neighborhood network as well as obligatory are commonly found in all community. In addition, many of these move are age-sex specific, others are associated with occupation of the person and with changing aspiration of people including changing geography of development activities.

Abstract:
The article considers the potential territorial mobility of youth, which refers to the willingness of young people to move outside their current residence. The sociological study was conducted in 2019, the object of which were students and working youth of Yekaterinburg. We interviewed 750 boys and girls by questioning method. In addition, 22 in-depth interviews were conducted, as well as an expert survey. The research materials indicate that the young generation is focused on moving to other settlements, among which the most attractive are the capital cities of Russia (Moscow, St. Petersburg) and Europe (Prague, Barcelona, Vienna). The main factors of the attractiveness of the territories are, first of all, new opportunities for self-realization, as well as the quality of the urban environment. The city should also have a special unique history and architecture. Among the factors of youth consolidation in a certain territory are the presence of social ties and relations, as well as a stable material status. The territorial identity deserves special attention, which becomes a condition for the youth to settle. The presence of events that perform the function of integrating urban residents into the urban community, as well as the development of park / walking areas in the territory contribute to the formation of identity.

Abstract:
In this article, Palestinian national cinema is interpreted through the lens of a ‘structure of feeling’ in order to address the theme of Palestinians reconstituting themselves in relation to changing geographies. Palestinians must constantly negotiate the tensions between mobility and immobility, whether in exile or diaspora, inside Israel, or within the Territories. Connecting these lived geographies to film, the article argues that analytic frameworks mistaking the national for a territorially-defined and stable order are ill-suited for a treatment of Palestinian national cinema. Touching on film production, narrative tropes and filmic locations in various films, the paper argues that cinema serves as a space to transgress Palestine’s territorial trap. Cinema as a structure of feeling allows for a more elastic, transgressive and encompassing understanding of Palestine and Palestinians.

Abstract:
The discussion surrounding the impact of territorial cohesion policy, and the territorial prioritization of cohesion policy, can offer significant insights by problematizing spatial justice. The notions of territoriality, mobility and peripherality are presented and analyzed due to their relevance to territorial cohesion, but also because they may strengthen the concept of spatial justice. The main objective of this paper, and by extension of this issue, is to stress the relevance of spatial justice as a concept created to address socio-spatial and territorial inequalities and useful when framing policy strategies, articulating policy goals, implementing policies, or taking actions to mitigate socio-spatial inequalities. The paper is organized in four sections. The introductory section presents social and economic inequalities as signifiers of the (un)sustainability of the European project and stresses the challenges facing territorial cohesion policy. The second section includes a conceptualization of spatial justice which plays to both the analytical strength and normative rigour of the concept. Third, there is a brief discussion of the notions of territoriality, mobility and peripherality. The final section is dedicated to a description of the basic features of the six papers included in this issue.

Abstract:
The habits influence the sustainability of our cities in terms of mobility in our daily lives. The main objective of this study is to achieve a sustainable mobility model from a new approach. This new approach differs from the traditional mobility management model, which focuses on a single department in charge of vehicle traffic that develops models based on surveys. In this research, geoprocessing techniques and spatial analysis tools have been applied to the positioning of taxi vehicles. The interdependence between taxis and other urban public transport has been proven through this analysis. It should be noted that this study shows that the mobility pattern of the taxi service in a medium-sized city is influenced by quantitative variables of a very diverse nature, such as population, infrastructure and means of transportation. In this way, taxi mobility is explained as a function of pedestrian accessibility to other means of transport. The multiple regression models obtained show a high R2 (around 0.9), demonstrating that access to other modes of transport significantly impacts the mobility of the taxi service.

Abstract:
For the first time in human history, more people are living in urban areas than in rural areas. Every year, millions of people decide to leave their rural homes and migrate to cities across the country or even across the border. Most of these people want to move to seek new job opportunities and, of course, to improve their lives, while others are forced to migrate because of sudden or slow-onset conflicts or natural disasters, such as rising sea levels, droughts and floods, which are often exacerbated by climate change and environmental stress. In addition, rural populations, whose livelihoods depend to a large extent on agriculture, are particularly vulnerable to pressures from migration. This article aims to provide an overview of rural-urban migration in Romania, detailing the causes and effects of this process. Romanian citizens from rural areas move to the country’s big cities to enjoy the facilities offered by urban areas. In the current context, migration is the population’s impulse from one topographical location to another, thus connecting temporary or permanent settlements. However, this process, like any other, brings with it both positive and negative economic, social and demographic consequences, which will be discussed in detail in this article.

Abstract:
With the largest territory in the world, Russia faces special problems in the distribution of labor resources. Management of territorial mobility becomes an urgent task of the state in the XXI century. From an economic point of view, territorial mobility prevents structural unemployment in the regions and contributes to economic growth. Most often, such mobility is beneficial not only to the state, but also to the citizens themselves, acquiring a stable place of work and thereby improving the quality of their lives. However, in general, the Russian population is characterized by very low mobility. The article analyzes the opinions of experts from the Federal service of labour and employment on this issue. The past of the country has caused a number of features that prevent the movement from the region to the region. These are: the structure of the real estate market (where the predominant objects are owned, not rented), and the collectivism of Russian people (according which moving to a remote region is viewed as a break with the native community), and the tradition of living all life in one place. In such a situation, the state is forced to develop special social technologies that stimulate people to move. These technologies are located in a continuum — from active stimulation of moving to regions with a shortage of labor resources through serious financial support to consulting and providing information that enable people to make independent solutions. The article considers both general programs of territorial mobility management, implemented by the Federal center and the regions, and special programs, the most famous of which is the “Far-Eastern hectare”. The authors also draw attention to the increasing importance of information and consulting activities of employment services that are carried out in the Internet and allow to synthesize multiple data (on vacancies, housing market, transport accessibility, legal issues, etc.) necessary to improve territorial mobility.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of a study of the strategy and prospects of territorial mobility of young people who have received higher education in the field of ecology at a regional university. A review of scientific literature and a statistical analysis of the opinions and judgments of environmental students of the last year of study at the bachelor’s program at the Agricultural University confirm the relevance of the research topic. They allow you to look at the prospects for the territorial mobility of environmental graduates, both from the point of view of their own targets, and from the point of view of their importance for the south of Russia and the capital regions of Russia. The study found that the vector of territorial mobility of environmental graduates is aimed at the capital regions of Russia and abroad. The expectations of young people are associated with higher job prospects on better conditions (high-paying and interesting work with real career opportunities) outside the Stavropol Territory and southern Russia.

Abstract:
The key factor in moving towards a more sustainable travel model is based on improving mobility, especially in rural areas that share territorial dynamics with urban areas and are connected by a daily flow of inhabitants. The purpose of this article is to carry out a diagnosis of the daily mobility patterns of the inhabitants of a number of rural municipalities, with the aim of promoting sustainability and mitigating the phenomenon of territorial depopulation in future local planning policies. The research methodology is based on the use of revealed preference surveys together with accessibility analysis using GIS tools, allowing for an in-depth knowledge of the mobility patterns of the municipalities in the area under analysis. In this respect, the reference parameters in terms of territorial accessibility are determined by applying the network analysis procedure to basic public services. The results reflect the existence of an unbalanced modal split with a preponderance of private vehicle use (regardless of the destination or the reason for the journey). In addition, a very weak inter-municipal connection dynamic is observed. There is a knowledge gap in the verification of the long-term suitability of sustainable measures in rural areas implemented after the development of mobility plans (in order to assess their effectiveness).

Abstract:
This study proposes a method for calculating the level of urban infrastructure and basic urban services on a given territory. It aims to contribute to a more accurate knowledge of the territory and the city, through the creation of an assessment tool for the urban condition, with the goal of overcoming imprecision hindering urban planning and management. Urban infrastructure is here understood in a broad sense, integrating usual urban attributes —roads, pavements, electricity, water supply, sanitation, etc.—but also a set of urban services and equipment traditionally provided by city and urban environment—administration, representation, culture, health, education and security, among others—and also other conditions diagnosed as significant for the current evolutionary trend of extended urbanity, such as mobility—integrating roadways, public transport networks, soft mobility devices and infrastructures —and access to and integration in communication and information networks —voice and data communication, fix and mobile. The development of this calculation method takes into account different relative weights for this set of conditions in order to obtain a balanced assessment of the level of infrastructure. In the future, the next stage will consist of testing in the field in order to fine tune and validate its usability in different scenarios. Abstract:
Sustainable mobility issues in rural areas, compared with urban mobility issues, have so far been poorly covered in the French and European public debate. However, local mobility issues are determining factors in territorial inequalities, regional development and ecological transition. This paper is based on preliminary findings of qualitative socio-anthropological fieldwork carried out in two rural departments of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region: Drôme and Ardèche. Our objective is to highlight how the question of sustainable local mobility is linked to governance issues and multiple overlapping institutions. We argue that analyzing stakeholders’ strategies and territorial governance is key to understanding the contemporary dynamics surrounding a transition towards a more sustainable mobility in rural areas. In order to do so, we show how the debates surrounding the adoption of a law allowing for the transfer of responsibility to local authorities for the organization of mobility services reveals the complexity of local mobility governance in rural areas and provides material for the analysis of the logics of stakeholder engagement, cooperation and conflict within the field of sustainable mobility. Through the case study of the organization of a local public transport service in a rural area, we shed light on the action of multiple stakeholders and their potentially antagonistic objectives.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Student mobility is a subject of very in-depth study in the urban sciences in the United States while it is little addressed in the literature on Europe, especially for Mediterranean countries such as Italy. The present paper focuses on Viterbo, a city located in the central part of Italy where there is a significant presence of university students. Welcoming more than 10,000 students, the Tuscia University in Viterbo is currently divided into seven Departments, ranging from Agricultural and Forestry sciences to linguistic and juridical studies. For this reason, the Tuscia University is appreciated for its graduate courses rather than the other neighbouring universities, such as Rome. Though the city of Viterbo is not infrastructurally well-connected and forces students to a difficult commute. Based on the limited literature in which student mobility is interrelated with issues affecting the spatial scale, a questionnaire was submitted to a sample of voluntary and anonymous students, which described their experiences giving insight into an intimate relationship between territorial networks and university reality. Results raised many topics of discussion, offering evidence, advantages and perspectives for Tuscia University, its territorial area and even the city of Viterbo.

Abstract:
AbstractColonial rule in West Africa initiated the incorporation of mobile people, particularly pastoralists, into Western territorial states. This article reports on the early period of French colonial rule of the area that is now South-Western Niger – a strategically important area with respect to territorial competition among the French colonies of Dahomey and Soudan (later the colonies of Senegambia and Niger) as well as the British colony of Nigeria. Building from the study of contemporary patterns of livestock mobility and their logics, archival and secondary literatures are used to develop an understanding of dominant herd mobility patterns at the time (transhumance for grazing and trekking to distant markets); the importance of livestock as a source of tax revenue; colonial anxieties about the loss of livestock from within their borders; and efforts of colonial administrators to reduce the potential loss of livestock from their territories. This case illustrates the limitations of the territorial state model where the state lacks sufficient power over mobile subjects utilizing a sparse and fluctuating resource base. The actions of French administrators and Fulɓe pastoralists worked as a form of ‘hands-off’ negotiation, with each group monitoring and reacting to the actions of the other. Due to the limitations of colonial state control, the existence of boundaries elicited greater monitoring of livestock movements by colonial administrators but also increased the leverage held by mobile pastoralists as the French sought to increase the attractiveness of their territory to the principal managers of its wealth (livestock). The proximity of borders to the study area complicated the task of French colonial administrators, who necessarily became increasingly focused on monitoring the movements of their subjects (labour and capital) to avoid their possible escape as they moved within the borderlands of what is now South-Western Niger. The limits of colonial power to monitor and control these movements led administrators to initiate policies favouring pastoralists.

Abstract:
This article explores the territorial differences in the onset and spread of COVID-19 and the excess mortality associated with the pandemic, with a focus on European regions and US counties. Both in Europe and in the US, the pandemic arrived earlier and recorded higher Rt values in urban regions than in intermediate and rural ones. A similar gap is also found in the data on excess mortality. In the weeks during the first phase of the pandemic, urban regions in EU countries experienced excess mortality of up to 68 pp more than rural ones. We show that, during the initial days of the pandemic, territorial differences in Rt by the degree of urbanisation can be largely explained by the level of internal, inbound and outbound mobility. The differences in the spread of COVID-19 by rural-urban typology and the role of mobility are less clear during the second wave. This could be linked to the fact that the infection is widespread across territories, to changes in mobility patterns during the summer period as well as to the different containment measures which reverse the link between mobility and Rt.
