Abstract:
Uber, Lyft, DoorDash and similar mobile-based transportation network companies (TNCs) have been involved in numerous legal battles in multiple jurisdictions. One contested issue concerns whether TNC drivers are employees or independent contractors. Uber recently lost this battle to some extent in the UK, but won it in California. Another issue concerns the TNCs’ use of mandatory (pre-dispute) arbitration clauses in their standard form service agreements with both drivers and passengers. These arbitration clauses purport to obligate such future plaintiffs to resolve any dispute with the defendant TNC outside of court and, typically, on an individual rather than a class basis. TNCs have had mixed success enforcing arbitration clauses contained in service agreements with their drivers under the Federal Arbitration Act (FAA). As for passengers, TNCs have been increasingly litigating disability-based discrimination claims brought against them and/or their drivers pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). These claims have largely arisen in two situations.

Abstract:
Background. Increased mobile phone usage among undergraduate medical students causes a detrimental effect on their health. The main focus of this study is to determine the pattern of mobile phone usage among undergraduate medical students in Hyderabad, India, and the detrimental effect on their health due to excess mobile use. Materials and Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted among undergraduate medical students from various medical colleges in Hyderabad, India, from September 2020 to January 2021. Data were collected from 626 respondents using a semistructured, pretested questionnaire. Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV) was used to assess the risk of smartphone addiction. Microsoft Excel and SAS were employed to analyze the data. Associations were examined using Fisher’s exact test. Results. 100% of the respondents were using mobiles, with 83.2% spending more than 4 hours on them. Only 22% reported that no mobile use during classes. Half (51.6%) admitted to keeping their mobiles close by while sleeping. 84.3% used social networking apps via their mobiles. Common symptoms arising from prolonged mobile usage included eye strain (67.9%), blurred vision (31.4%), and numbness or tingling in palms (30.9%). 52.70% of the respondents were at high risk of mobile addiction according to SAS-SV. Screen time more than 4 hours was associated with high risk of mobile addiction ( p < 0.0001 ). Significant association was found between high risk of mobile addiction and eye strain ( p < 0.0001 ), blurry vision ( p = 0.0115 ), numbness/tingling in palms ( p < 0.0001 ), and heat/tingling in the auditory area ( p < 0.0001 ). Conclusion. The study shows the alarming rate of risk of smartphone addiction among medical students. Students can be encouraged to assess their mobile addiction status and become aware of the issue. More research may be performed to develop standardized tools for early identification of mobile addiction and appropriate therapies for its rectification.

Abstract:
In the countries of the global South, the challenges of fixed infrastructure and environment, the apparent universality of mobile hardware, software and network technologies and the rhetoric of the global knowledge economy have slowed or impoverished the development of appropriate theoretical discourses to underpin learning with mobiles. This paper addresses one specific and fundamental component of such discourses, namely the role of language and literacy as they interact with mobile technology. The paper makes three points, that mobile technology is culturally and linguistically specific, not universal or culturally-neutral; that mobile technology does not merely store and transmit language(s) and literacy within communities, it disturbs and transforms them, and that the digital literacy agenda that might underpin learning with mobiles has not yet been developed in relation to mobile technology or in relation to the global South. These are the foundations of understanding learning with mobiles in the global South.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the potential of and prospects for mobile documentary filmmaking. As a result of practice-led research, the city film Max with a Keitai was produced on mobile camera phones for cinematic projection. The feature-length documentary portrays the contemporary Japanese megalopolis through the lens of a mobile phone and records the mobile filmmaking process. Simultaneously, the project experimented with mobile phones as viewing devices for ‘micro-movies’. Through curating an international mobile art exhibition and mobile feature film screening, the research explored the new mobile aesthetic from 2004 onwards, which is presented as the Keitai Aesthetic in this thesis. In the first chapters the thesis maps out the early mobile mediascape in the years 2004 to 2007 and analyses cinematic technology through user-based histories. Furthermore, the theoretical framework explores the city films of the 1920s and the concept of motion in film. Mobile filmmaking in the years 2004 to 2007 constitutes a return to non-linear documentary practices, such as interval theory (Dziga Vertov) and Ur-Kino (Hans Richter). The final chapters examine the new emerging mobile aesthetic in the research timeframe from 2004 to 2007 and further develop the argument that innovation in mobile filmmaking occurred, both in the domain of the gallery and the film-festival context before the media industry realized the potential of mobile media. The particular mobile resolution adds new elements to the emerging Keitai Aesthetic: the experience of location, notions of personal, immediate and intimate qualities. This research documents the alternative approach offered by the mobile-mentary (mobile documentary) and explores its potential as an intervention into the industry dominated discourse.

Kulvietis – Šiauliai, Šiauliai University, Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, Department of Computer Science, 2005, 32 pages). In a theoretical chapter of the Master thesis, the conception of mobility and mobile work place is analysed, equipment and software for equipping the mobile work place are discussed as well as mobile solutions introduced by Lithuanian companies are reviewed. Aim of the practical chapter is to equip the mobile work place (places) in Private Limited Liability Company “Elektronikos komponentai”. In order to achieve this goal, work analysis for the employees in every unit has been performed. The general aim of the analysis is to understand and assimilate the problem prior to its realisation. Upon analysis of the work in the sales unit, it was noticed that the largest amount of “manual” work is in this unit, because it is in particular its employees, who due to their work type, spend most of the time not inside the company, but outside its limits. Namely due to these reasons, the sales unit was selected for equipping the mobile work place. After the work analysis of the sales unit, a model of the mobile work place for the manager was created. In order to realise this model, most suitable is a laptop and mobile telephone with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). According to the requirements set for this task... [to full text]

Abstract:

The mobile technology is under constant development and the mobile phone today has many other functions besides just talking. The demand for new mobile services is constantly getting stronger since the mobile phone becomes more and more powerful. Among these services is the possibility to perform transactions of money. With this we mean using the mobile phone to pay bills and other services that is connected to a user’s assets. The transaction of money of course requires high security. What do the consumers know about the security surrounding these kinds of services? Today many payments and transactions that involve money takes place over the Internet from the home computer and the banks that offers these services claims that this is safe. But what do they say about the security surrounding their mobile alternatives? Does the necessary security exist for these mobile services and does it have the consumers trust? If the users do not trust the security surrounding the mobile service, they will probably not use them. We will therefore with this thesis try to investigate if the security that surrounds the mobile payment services is equivalent to when the services is used on a home computer and if the services has the users trust?

The purpose with this thesis is to investigate the users trust regarding mobile payment services and if these services fulfil the same security demands as when they are used normally at the home computer. The study began with a review of existing theories regarding the security for mobile Internet and Internet usage on the home computer. Thereafter interviews took place with experts having great knowledge regarding mobile Internet security. We then performed a web-based survey to get information about the users trust for the security surrounding mobile payment services. We used a focus group with the aim of helping us selecting relevant questions for the survey. The results from the interviews and the survey study were then analyzed with the chosen theory.

On the basis of our survey we can draw the conclusion that the majority of respondents do not trust the security that surrounds mobile payment services. The majority is of the opinion that it is not as safe to use mobile Internet services as to use the corresponding service from the computer at home. However half of the population could very well consider paying bills with the mobile phone and a large part of the respondents would also like to use financial transactions with this kind of media. We also conclude that a mobile phone does not reach the security standard of a home computer.

In Sweden there is a continuing effort to develop a more effective construction industry with a focus on environment, quality and control. When compared to the industrial sector it has been acknowledged that the construction industry has lagged behind the current environmental and quality requirements and standards. The construction industry has been developed and digitalized tremendously over the last few years; however some small businesses have not been able to follow.A couple of examples of this are the digital methods for work orders and registrations among craftsmen. In this study I will look at the possibilities of digitalization and the methods to produce work orders and registrations more effectively. This thesis aims to examine if it is possible to improve the control, quality and economical aspects of construction companies by using a mobile phone application.I have chosen to use theory concerning environment, quality, control and financial where I have studied the aspects which are influenced by a digital device in form of a mobile application and its functions. There is opposing consensus among the officials who are affected by the mobile phone application. It appears that the workload can be reduce clearly and the possibility to improve the control using the application. I can state that the mobile application must be simplified to get a total usage among the craftsmen.

Abstract:
In the last three years, several advanced toolkits for developing mobile augmented reality applications have been released. This in combination with the increased computational power of commercially available mobile devices has led to a great surge of attention given to the development of such applications. Currently, most mobile augmented reality applications being developed are within the gaming category. In this study, one of the less popular use cases, indoor navigation, were explored. An initial literature study was carried out followed by the development of a prototype which were then evaluated through different usability tests. During the tests, the test subjects navigated partly with the use of the prototype and partly with traditional navigational aids present in the shopping mall where the testing took place. The test subjects navigated 28% faster on average when using the prototype and felt that it was more intuitive. Different negative aspects were, however, also observed such as a decreased awareness of their surroundings. In the end, mobile augmented reality was deemed to have great potential when used in the context of indoor navigation even though some technical challenges would likely need to be solved before widespread adoption could take place.

Abstract:
[The final form of this paper was published in the journal Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology.] The impact that mobile web-enabled devices have had on the lives and behavior of university students has been immense. Yet, many of the models used in the classrooms have remained unchanged. Although a traditional research approach of examining the literature, developing a methodology, and so on is followed, this paper’s main aim is to inform practitioners on observations and examples from courses which insist on and encourage mobiles in the classroom. The paper asked three research questions regarding the use, impact, and unintended consequences of mobile web-enabled devices in the classroom. Data was collected from observing and interacting with post graduate students and staff in two universities across two continents: Africa and Europe. The paper then focuses on observations and examples on the use, impact, and unintended consequences of mobile web-enabled devices in two classrooms. The findings are that all students used mobile web-enabled devices for a variety of reasons. The use of mobile devices did not negatively impact the class, rather students appeared to be more engaged and comfortable knowing they were allowed to openly access their mobile devices. The unintended consequences included the use of mobiles to translate text into home languages.

Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that may lead to adopting mobile commerce in a developing country in South Asia. Background: Access to information is key for communication and for controlling our environment to improve our lives. The growth of mobile phones and the internet technologies have greatly improved the access to information and encompassed the social and business world. Mobile use may cross from personal over to commerce in some developing world households. From the Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICTD) perspective, researchers are interested in whether mobiles promote or enable economic growth or broader well-being. The effects of mobile commerce or m-commerce have mixed results so far. Methodology: This study will use survey of the literature. Contribution: A model of factors that lead to adoption of mobile commerce is developed. Findings: The technical and cultural factors are important. Recommendations for Practitioners: This model can be used for implementation of framework for mobile commerce. Recommendation for Researchers: Other factors can be included in the model. Impact on Society: When the adoption of mobile commerce grows, the society will gain from efficiency of mobile money transfer and other transactions. Future Research: Future research can see if the developed model can be useful in other countries.

Abstract:
Smart serious games are games which are primarily designed for a serious job such as education and training rather than entertainment. Mobile Phones are an essential enabler of smart serious games. Over the past few years, there has been an exponential growth in the security of the cyber-physical system of multiple operating systems. Security challenges have emerged from access scenarios in conventional operating systems. However, in Mobile Operating Systems, there is a lack of systematic study about mobile security measurement. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the critical features which exists inside mobile operating systems. AI enhances the working of Mobile OS functionality by providing thinking on user behavior and extending the functionality. We explore some key security models for different mobile Operating System providers. In particular, the comparison of security policies implemented by multiple mobile operating system vendors. It's challenging to deal with and study the related data models and measurements for mobile operating system platforms. This paper collects, analyzes, and provides effective decisions about the existing research on multiple mobile operating systems. We consider the built-in security, Authentication, Data Protection, Device protection, Application Security, Device Wipe, Mobile Device Management, Cooperate Managed e-mail, Active Sync Support, Device Firewall, Security Certifications, and Virtualizations. AI supports all these features to help OS to extend its functionality for effective game management. We have focused on these components that clearly understand the Mobile operating system structure and support services. General, as well as specific features, are explored about the different platforms of the operating systems. The systematic research study is applied to these platforms to capture the response, and based on these responses, and we developed results based on the feedback and research responses. This comparison aims to make the right choice for mobile users to device the best mobile with a high-security Operating System installed for mobiles partaking serious games in cyber-physical environment.
