Abstract:
This case covers the negotiations between Packages Limited, Pakistan (Packages) and Mitsubishi Corporation, Japan (Mitsubishi) for the formation of a joint venture to produce Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) film in Pakistan. Packages was established in Pakistan in 1957 as a joint venture between the Wazir Ali Group and AB Auckerland and Rausing of Sweden. Packages manufactured paper and board and converted them to packaging products. Mitsubishi was one of the biggest conglomerates in Japan, operating internationally. In 1992, Syed Babar Ali, founder and advisor to Packages proposed establishing a joint venture with Mitsubishi, during his visit to Japan. Upon returning to Pakistan, he asked Packages' senior management to negotiate a joint venture agreement with Mitsubishi. Both Packages and Mitsubishi agreed in principle to establish a joint venture to manufacture BOPP film in Pakistan. In this case, the negotiation process was divided into three phases. The case describes the issue discussed and tactics employed by the two sides during the three phases. The major issues discussed included the price and capacity of the plant, the reimbursement of Mitsubishi's investment if the company suffered repeated losses, raw material supply from Mitsubishi, equity participation, and the control of the management and the board of the new company. In April, 1993, Mr. Javed Aslam, the Deputy General Manager of Packages, received a quotation of US $6.4 million for a 6000-ton plant from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). He had to decide if it was feasible for Packages to go ahead with the joint venture with Mitsubishi and what counter offer to make to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Abstract:
Today, Consumers are very critical in buying, offering products that very much make consumers more selective in determining the choice of products to buy. This study aims to determine which brand image (brand image), user image (user image), and product image (product image) that most influence the decision to purchase a Mitsubishi Pajero car in Makassar City. The type of data used is qualitative data and quantitative data. The population in this study are all consumers of PT. Bosowa Berlian Motor bought a Mitsubishi Pajero car. The sample in this study has certain criteria as for these criteria, which are users of the Mitsubishi Pajero and the duration of use of at least 1 year. Data collection in this study uses a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that all brand image variables, user image, and product image of the decision to purchase a Mitsubishi Pajero car at Bosowa Berlian Motor in Makassar have a positive and significant influence on the decision dependent variable purchase of a Mitsubishi Pajero car at PT Bosowa Berlian Motor in Makassar. Product image (product image) is the most influential variable when compared to other variable data, namely brand image (brand image) and user image (user image).

Longhurst, James. "“Such business will be impossible”: Mitsubishi Trading Company and the roles of design and tariff policy in the American bicycle market (1933–1938)." Journal of Transport History, September 22, 2020, 002252662095713. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/0022526620957137.

Abstract:
During the 1930s Mitsubishi Shoji Kaisha, a Japanese trading conglomerate, attempted to foster a market for adult bicycles in America. They promoted bikes manufactured by Nichibei Shoten (including Fuji, a brand eventually known worldwide). These imported designs were rare for the American market, reflecting European and Japanese use of the bicycle as urban transportation for adults, instead of American predilections for bicycles designed for children’s recreation. If Mitsubishi had been successful – introducing designs for adult practical bicycling that existed in other markets worldwide – mobility in the United States might be different today. But these possibilities were precluded by steep tariff walls, a legacy of xenophobic protectionism, and (eventually) global war. During the war the federal government seized Mitsubishi’s records, which now afford a rare opportunity to explore the divergences between worldwide transportation cultures, and to understand how policies structuring the global flow of goods shape local mobilities.
