Full textOngoing work at National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA/GSFC), seeks to apply standard Internet applications and protocols to meet the technology challenge of future satellite missions. Internet protocols and technologies are under study as a future means to provide seamless dynamic communication among heterogeneous instruments, spacecraft, ground stations, constellations of spacecraft, and science investigators. The primary objective is to design and demonstrate in the laboratory the automated end-to-end transport of files in a simulated dynamic space environment using off-the-shelf, low-cost, commodity-level standard applications and protocols. The demonstrated functions and capabilities will become increasingly significant in the years to come as both earth and space science missions fly more sensors and the present labor-intensive, mission-specific techniques for processing and routing data become prohibitively. This paper describes how an IP-based communication architecture can support all existing operations concepts and how it will enable some new and complex communication and science concepts. The authors identify specific end-to-end data flows from the instruments to the control centers and scientists, and then describe how each data flow can be supported using standard Internet protocols and applications. The scenarios include normal data downlink and command uplink as well as recovery scenarios for both onboard and ground failures. The scenarios are based on an Earth orbiting spacecraft with downlink data rates from 300 Kbps to 4 Mbps. Included examples are based on designs currently being investigated for potential use by the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission.

Full textThis PHD is part of the work for the NASA InSight mission, which will see a seismometer launched for Mars in 2018. One of the main objectives of the mission is to determine the state of the planet (whether it is liquid or solid) by measuring the amplitude of the main amplitude of the Phobos tide with the SEIS seismometer. As such, this PHD aims at modelising all sources of signal, like the Phobos tide itself but also intrumental noises, in order to estimate the true signal that would be seen on site. Other sources of noises will be studied, such as wind noise and others. A second goal of ours is to develop a code to calculate the tidal forces seen by binary systems, notably asteroids without particular shapes, in order to deduce the tidal displacements and stresses inside them

Full textA large selection of hardware and software components are readily available for supporting Internet communication in the ground network environment. These components can be used to construct very powerful and flexible communication systems. The Operating Missions as Nodes on the Internet (OMNI) project at NASA/GSFC has been defining and demonstrating ways to use standard Internet technologies for future space communication. Theses concepts and technologies are also applicable to test range telemetry applications. This paper identifies the network equipment and protocols to support end-to-end IP communication from range sensors and spacecraft instruments to end users. After identifying the end-to-end network hardware and software components, the paper discusses which ones are currently available and lists specific examples of each. This includes examples of space missions currently using Internet technology for end-to-end communication. It also lists missing pieces and includes information on their current status. The goal of this paper is also to stimulate thought and discussion on what steps need to be taken to start filling in the remaining missing pieces for end-to-end range and space network connectivity.

Israel, Dave, Ron Parise, Keith Hogie, and Ed Criscuolo. "SPACE COMMUNICATION DEMONSTRATION USING INTERNET TECHNOLOGY." International Foundation for Telemetering, 2002. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/607486.
Full textThis paper presents work being done at NASA/GSFC by the Operating Missions as Nodes on the Internet (OMNI) project to demonstrate the application of Internet communication technologies to space communication. The goal is to provide global addressability and standard network protocols and applications for future space missions. It describes the communication architecture and operations concepts that will be deployed and tested on a Space Shuttle flight in July 2002. This is a NASA Hitchhiker mission called Communication and Navigation Demonstration On Shuttle (CANDOS). The mission will be using a small programmable transceiver mounted in the Shuttle bay that can communicate through NASA’s ground tracking stations as well as NASA’s space relay satellite system. The transceiver includes a processor running the Linux operating system and a standard synchronous serial interface that supports the High-level Data Link Control (HDLC) framing protocol. One of the main goals will be to test the operation of the Mobile IP protocol (RFC 2002) for automatic routing of data as the Shuttle passes from one contact to another. Other protocols to be utilized onboard CANDOS include secure login (SSH), UDP-based reliable file transfer (MDP), and blind commanding using UDP. The paper describes how each of these standard protocols available in the Linux operating system can be used to support communication with a space vehicle. It will discuss how each protocol is suited to support the range of special communication needs of space missions.

Full textThe study aims to collect the perceptions that the counselors working at career counseling have of their job, of the young people, of their professional practices and of their use of the Internet and the digital tools of management on a daily basis. The aim is to identify the relationship between the use of information technologies and perceived stress at work. Based on models and studies on work stress (perceived stress, sources of stress at work), 46 counselors were met, 35 of whom were interviewed through semi-directive interviews. The research is complemented by a quantitative approach that has helped us to develop a typology of counselors according to their level of perceived stress, to their perceived sources of stress at work, to their expectations for the future, to their professional practices and to their use of the information technologies at work. The results of our research show that the use of the information technologies at the workplace contributes to the evolution of professional practices, to the transformation of the perceptions that counselors have of their job and to a reconstruction of their professional identities. It seems that the use of information technologies at work increases the level of perceived stress of the most conservative counselors and it increases the feel of well-being at work of the most innovative counselors

Full textThe dissertation Fides ex auditu (Romans 10:17) Propaganda first, faith after The internal marketing as instrument of mission in the Evangelical Church of the Lutheran Confession in Brasil (ECLCB) arises from the uneasiness of the daily life of an Ordained Minister. The so called Historical Churches, to which group the ECLCB belongs, are facing great difficulties to keep their members. These difficulties to keep members is the issue of the first chapter. Through two researches taken in the ECLCB, the suspicion of numerical stagnation, even with strong tendency towards lowering numbers, is confirmed. The two researches analyzed point to the same, although one presents the question in a national view and the other brings numbers of a small town in the open country of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The search for help comes to the field of marketing. While taking out prejudices, we seek to draw nearer to this field of human knowledge. Yet, before we begin the dialog, it is necessary to respect the organizational culture of the institution to which marketing action might become useful. The second chapter presents, therefore, the pillars of the Lutheran Theology. It is on these pillars that the way of being of the ECLCB is laid upon. Thinking on adult congregations, internal marketing actions arise as the more efficient actions at the moment. The third chapter presents the theme of marketing, looking specially to internal marketing. Seeking to analyze the internal communication in the ECLCB, theme that the internal marketing reflects, it was collected information with various leaders of this church. What this data collection revealed is presented, along with its explanation and analysis, in the forth chapter. Church and marketing is a challenge! In a well directed dialog, with the help offered by the marketing, the Church can become more efficient in its way to communicate what is most precious: the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Full textOne of the main goals of the companies is to have a consistent internal controls system, with not only the objective of attending the legal rules, specially COSO and Corporate Finance, but also get prepared to be in compliance to the daily routines, turning them into a model when compared to the principal competitors and mainly the present and future investors. To attend and obtain the systems and internal controls mechanisms proposed by Sarbanes-Oxley certifications is actually a big challenge for most of the multinational companies registered in SEC (US Securities and Exchange Commission). Lean structures, rare resources with challenging deadlines assume the huge responsibility to attend the requirement that without a vigorous implementation project, in many cases fail or reach the objectives with high costs and end up destroying value instead of generating it. So, due to this scenario, this work has the objective of contributing to the analysis of this methodology, not only to attend the law but to reduce cost and generate value through the strengthen of the internal controls systems, turning them into animating value generation process mechanisms. So, the idea is to identify the main gaps in the theory through the literature revision and a case study in order to put a question to the main deficiencies, strong points or contributions through the evaluation of the noticed practices and the proposition of a model. Finally, we can say that as a result of the research and the analyses made in this case, the vast majority of executives and other employees recognize the benefit that Sarbanes-Oxley Act has brought to the company searched. Also recognize that, although there is still necessity for systemic adequacy and infrastructure, it helps reducing and controlling the risks and reinforce the system of internal controls in all ts areas of expertise. Approach and understand that there is need for a change in the other employees' culture to be inserted in the day-to-day routine as internal controls, attention to Sarbanes-Oxley and Corporate Governance, making the control cost smaller when compared to the benefits generated.

Full textThis study deals with the communication of strategy within the banking sector. Our aim was to highlight the key steps involved in the communication process of banks, identify the challenges faced by bankers regarding that process and assess their role in the promotion of the strategy. Indeed, communication is the channel through which the strategy will be spread throughout the bank. Yet, the understanding and defense of the strategy by the employees, greatly depends on the way it has been conveyed to them; hence the importance and relevance of communication studies. Thus, a deep understanding of communication processes in terms of form as well as content, allowed us to pinpoint the elements that might prevent the development of a common strategic representation, understood by all, and affect the quality of its implementation. Our study is essentially based on an abductive approach that consists in going back and forth between theory and confirmation on the field. This method allowed us to strengthen the validity of our conceptual framework and supplement it with examples derived from our study case. In the end, we came up with the conclusion that many elements prevent the good circulation of strategy information within a bank. The main ones being: over-information, cognitive capacities, the resistance to change, the nature of the strategy as well as the number of hierarchical levels whose most striking consequence is the failure of implementation
