Abstract:
Background/Aims: The available episodic memory tests are not specifically constructed to examine older subjects. Their use in outpatient memory clinics may result in aborted test administration. We used a strict adherence to the test protocol in cognitively healthy, amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI), and Alzheimer’s disease dementia subjects to assess the possibility of preventing this. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in memory outpatient subjects with a mean age of 74.5 years. Primary study outcomes were: number of missing values and test results in the Visual Association Test (VAT) and the 15 Word Test (15WT). Results: A strict adherence to the test protocol resulted in a 10-fold decrease in the number of missing values in the VAT. For the 15WT this could not be realized mostly because the test was deemed too demanding for 1 in 6 patients. Conclusions: This study is one of the few examining the applicability of well-known episodic memory tests in older subjects. A strict adherence to the test protocol reduced the number of missing values. Floor effects were stronger for the 15WT than for the VAT. Results favor the use of the VAT in senior subjects and show the unsuitability of the 15WT in this group.

Abstract:
Abstract Context Maternal body mass index (BMI) is associated with increased birth weight but does not explain all the variance in fetal adiposity. Objective To assess the contribution of maternal body fat distribution to offspring birth weight and adiposity. Design Longitudinal study throughout gestation and at delivery. Setting Women recruited at 12 weeks of gestation and followed up at 26 and 36 weeks. Cord blood was collected at delivery. Patients Pregnant women (n = 45) with BMI 18.0 to 46.3 kg/m2 and healthy pregnancy outcome. Methods Maternal first trimester abdominal subcutaneous and visceral adipose tissue thickness (SAT and VAT) was assessed by ultrasound. Main Outcome Measures Maternal body fat distribution, maternal and cord plasma glucose and lipid concentrations, placental weight, birth weight, and fetal adiposity assessed by cord blood leptin. Results VAT was the only anthropometric measure independently associated with birth weight centile (r2 adjusted 15.8%, P = .002). BMI was associated with trimester 2 and trimesters 1 through 3 area under the curve (AUC) glucose and insulin resistance (Homeostatic Model Assessment). SAT alone predicted trimester 2 lipoprotein lipase (LPL) mass (a marker of adipocyte insulin sensitivity) (11.3%, P = .017). VAT was associated with fetal triglyceride (9.3%, P = .047). Placental weight was the only independent predictor of fetal adiposity (48%, P < .001). Maternal trimester 2 and AUC LPL were inversely associated with fetal adiposity (r = -0.69, P = .001 and r = -0.58, P = .006, respectively). Conclusions Maternal VAT provides additional information to BMI for prediction of birth weight. VAT may be a marker of reduced SAT expansion and increased availability of maternal fatty acids for placental transport.

Abstract:
The aim of this contribution is to elaborate on the institute of VAT frauds, with emphasis on Carousel frauds. This document provides compact information concerning VAT fraud schemes within the European Union, problems within the EU VAT system, which was put into force in 1993 and strategises how to tackle VAT frauds as well as de lege ferenda proposals, especially in a view of the European Commission’s proposed solution on the EU’s common system of VAT. This article focuses on details of functioning of the EU VAT system, it explains relevant sections of the Slovak Penal Code Act pointing out legal issues in practise including examples of criminal conducts falling within the definitions of relevant sections of the Slovak Penal Code Act. This article demonstrates patterns of how carousel frauds are committed, how they evolved as a consequence of globalisation, economic changes, elimination of internal borders and electronic services. Authors chose the very actual topic of carousel frauds in order to reveal the commission of VAT evasions, focus on existing problems and to emphasise the need for improvement of the European Union legislation in the field of VAT frauds. The contribution aims at proposing the solution for minimising the VAT gap. The article utilises a descriptive approach to explain into detail functioning of the carousel frauds due to the fact that patterns used are complicated using a lot of companies to coved fraudulent transactions. Many times legal businesses are used to confuse law enforcement agencies as well as tax authorities of Member States when investigating commitment of VAT frauds e.g. Missing trader intra-Community fraud. In practise even courts have problems to determine which criminal offence of the Slovak Penal Code Act was committed. The article also provides in its Annex I the citations of the Slovak Penal Code Act which is beneficial to experts from Member States of the European Union to compare their jurisdiction to laws applicable in the Slovak Republic to bring the legislations closer or to subject the Slovak legislation to criticism.

Abstract:
Value Added Tax (VAT) is the largest source of global tax revenue. However, it faces issues of tax avoidance, such as the black-market and missing trader intra-community fraud. Many studies have postulated that the introduction of the Reverse Charge System (RCS) will contribute to the enhancement of transparency and fairness in trade for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that supply goods or provide services. This study analyzes SME taxpayers’ perception of transparency and fairness in trade resulting from the introduction of the RCS into the South Korean VAT system. In B2B transactions that handle gold, copper, and steel scrap, large companies often abuse their bargaining power over smaller firms by not paying VAT with their purchase or reducing the prices to equal VAT, leading to low trade transparency. When it comes to gold, copper and steel scrap trading, the imbalance in bargaining power results in one of the parties being unable to reap maximum benefits because of unfairness. SMEs with relatively weak bargaining power suffer from unfair trading practices such as price cutting and the imposition of VAT by their counterparts. Since the introduction of the RCS, however, SME taxpayers appear to believe that trade fairness has improved. This study’s findings reveal that SMEs are more likely to perceive improvement in trade transparency and fairness since the implementation of the RCS, indicating that the RCS has exerted a positive influence on SMEs. This study provides important policy implications for countries that intend to implement the RCS by offering empirical evidence of its benefits.

Abstract:
This is the first translation into Russian of the “Martyrdom of John of Phanijoit”. The text is written in Coptic and originates from the beginning of the 13th cent. AD. The translation is preceded by an introduction, which comprises the history of the research as well as lists all the modern editions and translations of the “Martyrdom”. It is pointed out that there are some doubts about the original language of the text: some scholars argue that it could have been Arabic. There are also different speculations regarding the motives, which prompted the author to use Coptic, although at that time the Egyptian Christians almost completely switched to Arabic in everyday life. The composition of the “Martyrdom” follows the hagiographic canon, however, some expected topoi are missing. Among those are the torture of the Saint, the intervention of Heavenly Forces to strengthen the martyr. The main character in the “Martyrdom” is John, the flax seller. Having married a Muslim woman, he converted from Christianity to Islam. The narrative deals with what happened to John, when he decided to return to Christianity openly. The author of “Martyrdom” was a contemporary of the martyr and likely witnessed the events he described. Some of the characters mentioned in the “Martyrdom” are not fictitious but did exist indeed. All this makes the text a valuable source for the history of the Eastern Christianity in the Middle Ages.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to examine the main characteristics of the housing taxation and subsidy systems in six European Union countries. The structure of this support over the past two decades, before and after the global financial crisis has been investigated and its total effective dimensions have been approximated. Design/methodology/approach – Official national data and existing literature on housing policy expenses have been analysed and the authors add their own estimations of missing data, where possible. Latest changes in housing policy guidelines and expenses were interpreted. Findings – It was found that state support for housing is heavily underestimated by official data in most countries, mainly due to missing estimates for the value of imputed rents tax relief, reduced VAT rates and low real estate and capital gains taxation. Our estimates suggest that total public support for the housing sector reaches more than 3 per cent of the gross domestic product in three of the six countries, and about 2 per cent in the others. State support to the housing sector has developed quite differently in the investigated countries over the past decades. In particular, there was no universal downward trend. Originality/value – This is the first attempt to provide a more comprehensive analysis of national housing policy expenses applying a very broad definition of state support for housing. In particular, we consider indirect tax advantages to the housing sector that are generally not taken into account. Furthermore, we apply a discounted present value approach of current housing policy expenses to facilitate international comparison.

Abstract:
Several times the French Senate has proposed introduction of split payment in France, however, each time the French National Assembly rejected such a proposal. This contrast between two houses of the French parliament shows very well how controversial split payment is. Yet, it is in force in Poland since the 1st of July, 2018. Since one year from its introduction has passed it is a good moment to analyse the first Polish experiences with this mechanism with special regard to experiences of other states which decided to introduce split payment. Such an analysis should lead to conclusion that the Polish split payment mechanism is not finished yet – so far it was only its voluntary supplement that had been introduced. Such a voluntary mechanism is unlikely to be popular and so it is so far. The proper, i.e. obligatory, split payment is to come into force on the 1st of September, 2019. The projected law does not seem to vary much from solutions adopted in other countries. Experiences of all states prove how difficult it is to draft a high-quality and efficient law on split payment. Moreover, split payment is meant to tackle the problem of the so-called missing trader frauds – analysis shows that it does not preclude such dealings. Therefore, it is not the final solution for problems of VAT.

Abstract:
Developing countries like Pakistan face a host of economic problems in the form of stagnant exports, low economic growth, inadequate private investment, and inefficient utilization of foreign direct investment. Given these problems, we have examined macroeconomic factors impact on unemployment in Pakistan from 1967 to 2018. We also tested the proposed hypotheses through “VAR, fully modified least squares, and Granger causality tests.” Our results suggest that exports did not stimulate jobs in Pakistan. Perhaps, Pakistan needs to diversify its exports by focusing on non-conventional value-added goods. The results also indicate that although FDI and government expenditures have created jobs, they are below expectations. Although we found that private investment has helped job creation, the effect is small compared to other developing countries. Furthermore, we find that macroeconomic factors have had little impact on unemployment in the long run.

Abstract:
Missing-data problems are extremely common in practice. To achieve reliable inferential results, we need to take into account this feature of the data. Suppose that the univariate data set under analysis has missing observations. This paper examines the impact of selecting an auxiliary complete data set—whose underlying stochastic process is to some extent interdependent with the former—to improve the efficiency of the estimators for the relevant parameters of the model. The Vector AutoRegressive (VAR) Model has revealed to be an extremely useful tool in capturing the dynamics of bivariate time series. We propose maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters of the VAR(1) Model based on monotone missing data pattern. Estimators’ precision is also derived. Afterwards, we compare the bivariate modelling scheme with its univariate counterpart. More precisely, the univariate data set with missing observations will be modelled by an AutoRegressive Moving Average (ARMA(2,1)) Model. We will also analyse the behaviour of the AutoRegressive Model of order one, AR(1), due to its practical importance. We focus on the mean value of the main stochastic process. By simulation studies, we conclude that the estimator based on the VAR(1) Model is preferable to those derived from the univariate context.

This vision has been maintained, despite non-membership archeology shows the cemetery to the original draft of the building, which is deducted important morphological and functional changes in it. Abstract:
AbstractIn the forties of last century, American Protestant missionaries, sent forth by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, were working among the Assyrian (Nestorian) Christians in northwestern Iran. Nearly ten years after its beginnings, the 'Nestorian mission' went through a difficult period. Not only had the mission to cope with opposition from Roman Catholic missionaries and the Persian government, but also with internal quarrels about the preferred policy of the mission. The internal conflict concentrated on the employment of Assyrian bishops by the mission. Some of the missionaries were convinced that the earlier cooperation of the bishops with the mission was only to be attributed to the fact that they received salaries, rather than out of conviction. Even more, the mission's employment of the bishops could be understood as its approval of the episcopal organisation and various customs of the Assyrian Church. For some of the missionaries, these consequences were hard to accept. Their opponents within the mission greatly valued the positive aspects of the employment of the bishops: it provided the missionaries with good opportunities to preach among the Assyrians, at the same time showing the Assyrians that the Protestants' main aim was not to subvert their customs but to stimulate a revival within the Assyrian Church. In this article, I have argued that it were these opportunities for preaching among the Assyrians which constituted the main reason for Rufus Anderson to support the latter party, even if some aspects of their policy were not in line with the general policy of the American Board of that time. As to the reasons for the Assyrian bishops to work with the American missionaries, I assume that both 'spiritual' and 'material' aspects were involved; the main reason, however, not being the bishops' attraction to the Protestant faith as such, but to the process of modernization and emancipation which the Protestant mission was thought to represent.

Abstract:
The author chooses to write a social mission history of the DRC in order to relate important mission events properly to the developing political economy in South Africa. He chooses to follow the nethodology describe especially by Grundlingh and Hobsbawm. He sees mission history and church history as interchangeable, and views Christian history as an important rubric of general human history. He analyses the period 1934-1961 in this article, and starts with the DRC mission policy established in 1935. The author points out a close entwinement of mission policy and political culture, in that “the solution of the native question” formed the central pivot in both mission and political policy. He analyses events around the publication of the Tomlinson Report to illustrate the link between mission policy and political culture (segregation/apartheid). There were also voices of protest against these developments, especially from people with missionary involvement. The author is convinced that there are various important areas for further research (which explains why he subtitled his article: “A reconnaisance in terms of social mission history”). Some of these areas are the relationship between mission and financial ability and the DRC’s late involvement in urban mission. The author concludes with an ambivalent evaluation of DRC mission from a social historical perspective, but stresses that much more research is needed before any conclusive evaluation can be attempted.

Abstract:
The reliable and accurate calculation of incident particle radiation fluxes from space radiation monitor measurements, i.e. count-rates, is of great interest and importance. Radiation monitors are relatively simple and easy to implement instruments found on board multiple spacecrafts and can thus provide information about the radiation environment in various regions of space ranging from Low Earth orbit to missions in Lagrangian points and even interplanetary missions. However, the unfolding of fluxes from monitor count-rates, being an ill-posed inverse problem, is not trivial and prone to serious errors due to the inherent difficulties present in such problems. In this work we present a novel unfolding method which uses tools from the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to achieve good unfolding of monitor measurements. The unfolding method combines a Case Based Reasoning approach with a Genetic Algorithm, which are both widely used. We benchmark the method on data from European Space Agency’s (ESA) Standard Radiation Environment Monitor (SREM) on board the INTEGRAL mission by calculating proton fluxes during Solar Energetic Particle Events and electron fluxes from measurements within the outer Radiation Belt. Extensive evaluation studies are made by comparing the unfolded proton fluxes with data from the SEPEM Reference Dataset v2.0 and the unfolded electron fluxes with data from the Van Allen Probes mission instruments Magnetic Electron Ion Spectrometer (MagEIS) and Relativistic Electron Proton Telescope (REPT).

Na tien jaar planvorming en discussie blijkt de grootste Nederlandse investering in infrastructuur ooit een beleidsramp van de eerste orde te zijn. Abstract:
The Copernicus Space Component Data Access system (CSCDA) incorporates data contributions from a wide range of satellite missions. Through EO data handling and distribution, CSCDA serves a set of Copernicus Services related to Land, Marine and Atmosphere Monitoring, Emergency Management and Security and Climate Change. <br><br> The quality of the delivered EO products is the responsibility of each contributing mission, and the Copernicus data Quality Control (CQC) service supports and complements such data quality control activities. The mission of the CQC is to provide a service of quality assessment on the provided imagery, to support the investigation related to product quality anomalies, and to guarantee harmonisation and traceability of the quality information. <br><br> In terms of product quality control, the CQC carries out analysis of representative sample products for each contributing mission as well as coordinating data quality investigation related to issues found or raised by Copernicus users. Results from the product analysis are systematically collected and the derived quality reports stored in a searchable database. <br><br> The CQC service can be seen as a privileged focal point with unique comparison capacities over the data providers. The comparison among products from different missions suggests the need for a strong, common effort of harmonisation. Technical terms, definitions, metadata, file formats, processing levels, algorithms, cal/val procedures etc. are far from being homogeneous, and this may generate inconsistencies and confusion among users of EO data. <br><br> The CSCDA CQC team plays a significant role in promoting harmonisation initiatives across the numerous contributing missions, so that a common effort can achieve optimal complementarity and compatibility among the EO data from multiple data providers. This effort is done in coordination with important initiatives already working towards these goals (e.g. INSPIRE directive, CEOS initiatives, OGC standards, QA4EO etc.). <br><br> This paper describes the main actions being undertaken by CQC to encourage harmonisation among space-based EO systems currently in service.

Abstract:
The process of giving greater credence to the codices has been constant in editions of Apuleius from the last century to the present day. Accordingly, the following suggestions are proposed.Iet statim miser ut cum ilia adquieui, ab unico congressu annosam ac pestilentem con<dicionem> contraho. And at the very moment when I—wretch that I am!—lay with her, from that one relationship, I contracted this interminable and miserable condition.condicionem contraho scripsi: con contraho Fø: coniunctionem c. Chodaczek: consuetudinem c. van der Vliet: contagionem c. Lütjohann: cladem c. Helm: luem c. Heinsius: contraho adfectionem Novák con dittographiam putans, cf. 8.14.1 (187.22): noxam ante annosam Giarratano, post annosam BirtIn this case, where a word is obviously missing and the mysterious con appears, there are two general possibilities for correcting the text: con may be taken as a dittograph for contraho or considered to be part of the missing word. Another approach would be to interpret contraho differently: the verb can apply to a disease (as proposed by Lütjohann and Heinsius—followed by Hildebrand—no doubt swayed by pestilentem), harm or misfortune (meaning: ‘draw misfortune upon oneself’, as in the later sentence nequam tibi lingua intemperante noxam contrahas [Helm, Giarratano, and Birt]), a custom (more or less following van der Vliet and Novák) or marriage (Chodaczek). The solutions offered by van der Vliet, in particular, and Novák are reasonable: other commentators have been led astray by the sentence I have quoted, assuming that what is missing is something like ‘harm', ‘misfortune’.

Abstract:
This article describes the restoration of a glass bowl from the 16th-17thcentury by creating its three-dimensional (3D)model. The final purpose is to work with this model in order to avoid damaging situations that are associated with the manipulation of fragile objects. The gap areas, those corresponding to the missing fragments not found in the excavation, were carried out by constructing digital implants. A restricted area of the 3D model has been duplicated in order to accommodate it to confined intervals of the gap. The final implants were printed with acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) filament. These implants replace the lost areas and give stability back to the item by recovering the original morphology. The result can be compared with the outcome obtained by a traditional process, but differs due to the fact that requires minimum manipulation of the item, so it can contribute to preserve and safeguard the restored object. This is a non-invasive method which is offered as an alternative treatment, where the archaeological object is replaced by its virtual model in the steps of the process after 3D data acquisition. Significant differences have not been found in the 3D printing results obtained with the two types of filaments tested (white and clear).

Abstract:
Objective The purpose of this study was (1) to assess maxillary development in cleft individuals with Van der Woude syndrome (VWS) and (2) to compare hypodontia in VWS and nonsyndromic cleft matched controls. Design and Setting Retrospective case-control study from the Center for Craniofacial Anomalies, University of California, San Francisco, California. Patients and Participants The sample consisted of 15 individuals with Van der Woude syndrome and 15 nonsyndromic cleft lip and/or palate controls paired for age, gender, and cleft type in the age range of 5 to 13 years. Main Outcome Measures Cephalograms were digitized, and 31 linear and angular measurements were made. Serial panoramic radiographs were used to assess the presence or absence of permanent teeth. Results The maxillary sagittal position represented by midface length (Co-A) was significantly shorter in the Van der Woude syndrome subjects than in the matched controls (p = .031), suggesting a trend towards greater maxillary hypoplasia, particularly in Van der Woude syndrome with bilateral cleft lip and/ or palate. Measurements indicating sagittal jaw relationship (ANB angle and the Wits) were significantly smaller in the children with Van der Woude syndrome than in matched controls (p = .008 and p = .006). A significantly larger number of individuals with Van der Woude syndrome than matched controls had missing teeth (p = .014). The mandibular second premolar was missing more frequently in children with Van der Woude syndrome than in the matched controls (p = .031). The differences concerning both maxillary hypoplasia and hypodontia were most marked in the more severe cleft type, represented by bilateral cleft lip and/or palate. Conclusions Based on these findings, the expectation is that there will be maxillary hypoplasia and hypodontia of greater severity in Van der Woude syndrome than in nonsyndromic clefts.

Abstract:
SummaryDitelocentric accessions of the Chinese Spring cultivar of Triticum aestivum were analysed electrophoretically for peptidase (PEPT) and amino peptidase (AMP = LAP) activity. Isozymic activity was missing in the accessions CSDT6AS and CSDT6BS when stained for PEPT. This was taken as evidence that the structural genes encoding these isozymes are located on the long arms of chromosomes 6A and 6B. These genes have been named Pept-A1 and Pept-B1, respectively. Isozymic activity was missing in the CSDT6BL accession when stained for AMP. This result reconfirms the previously published location of the gene Amp-B1 on the short arm of chromosome 6B and demonstrates that the two sets of loci are clearly different.

Abstract:
Some key econometric concepts and problems of great importance to Trygve Haavelmo and Ragnar Frisch are discussed within the general framework of a cointegrated VAR. The focus is on problems typical of time-series data such as multicollinearity, spurious correlation and regression, time dependent residuals, model selection, missing simultaneity, autonomy, and identification. The paper argues that the more recent development of unit root econometrics has been instrumental for a solution to the above problems.

Abstract:
Zodoende kunnen deze post-liberation geheime zendingen als een volledig fiasco worden beschouwd.________The secret missions from Germany to Flanders after September 1944: reckless, impracticable and not carried outAfter the liberation there were a lot of rumours going around about underground pro-German resistance movements who were preparing for a role in the expected return of the German armies. This is only partially true. Real ‘white maquis’as these supposed groups were sometimes called never existed. However, the German military intelligence and sabotage service (the Abwehr) had constituted in total more than a hundred stay behind-agents before the retreat of the Germans -many of them with a secret transmitter- who would only get into action once the German counteroffensive had started. For this purpose the Abwehr had established around seventy munitions- and weapons depots in Belgium. After September 1944 Section II of the Abwehr (sabotage) recruited around twenty Flemish volunteers among the collaborators who had fled to Germany. They were trained as secret agents and saboteurs and were supposed to be sent to Flanders with a mission in this specialty. It had been planned to air drop fourteen agents in five groups via parachute. They were informed about the location of the weapons depots and were ordered to contact the supposed ‘white maquis’, including also members of the VNV who had not yet been arrested. In fact only six agents were sent on mission. None of them got as far as even the beginning of carrying out his assignment. Usually they surrendered to the Belgian police. The only radio-operator who kept in touch with Germany had been ‘recruited’ by the Allies after his arrest and in fact worked for the Americans. Therefore these post-liberation secret missions can be considered as a complete failure.
