Croatie de la Cour européenne des droits de l’homme du 5 mai 2022 constitue une nouvelle approche du conflit entre la liberté d’expression protégée par l’article 10 de la Convention et le droit à la vie privée tel qu’il est garanti par l’article 8. Au-delà d’une mise à jour de la méthodologie de la « mise en balance » dans la lignée des arrêts Von Hannover et Axel Springer AG c. Allemagne , il vient également renforcer le statut et le rôle accordés à l’avocat en considération du droit pour chacun d’avoir accès à un tribunal dans la filiation notamment de l’arrêt fondateur Golder c. Royaume-Uni , mais aussi la place centrale de l’avocat dans le système de protection des droits de l’homme instauré par la Convention.

Si, dans son principe, l’exception d’efficience semble simple, puisqu’elle prévoit une mise en balance entre les effets anticoncurrentiels, d’une part, et les gains en efficience, d’autre part, sa mise en oeuvre présente néanmoins plusieurs difficultés, dont la plus importante consiste en l’équilibrage et en la pondération entre les gains en efficience et les effets anticoncurrentiels. En effet, cet équilibrage des gains en efficience et des effets anticoncurrentiels doit fondamentalement tenir compte de tous les objectifs de nature économique et sociale poursuivis par le droit canadien de la concurrence. Dès lors, la question principale que suscite cette étude est de savoir comment faudrait-il concilier les objectifs de nature économique et sociale dans l’interprétation de l’exception d’efficience ? Cette étude explore ainsi la possibilité de la réception de normes de nature sociale au sein du droit de la concurrence qui, par ses objets, est caractérisé par une forte prégnance économique. Elle a pour objet de montrer à travers l’appréciation de l’exception d’efficience qu’une conciliation des objectifs en apparence contradictoires de nature sociale et économique est possible et souhaitable. À cet effet, le critère d’équilibrage des gains en efficience et des effets anticoncurrentiels, qui concilie et intègre le mieux les objectifs économiques et sociaux dans l’appréciation de la balance d’efficience, semble être le critère du surplus modéré du consommateur que nous proposons dans la seconde partie de l’étude.

Through semiotics, mise en scène, and sociolinguistics, we unravel the photograph’s layered significances, employing studium and punctum to dissect viewer engagement. Cognitive linguistics reveals the interplay of myths, metaphors, and metonymy, crafting a narrative that intertwines football, chess, and luxury into potent cultural symbols. The mise en scène theory illuminates the nuanced balance between authenticity and artifice, while sociolinguistic insights bridge visual and linguistic communications for a diverse audience. The photograph, as a convergence of composition, culture, and technology, exemplifies how visual narratives blend these elements to forge connections and evoke responses. This paper aims to contribute to the understanding of digital visual storytelling’s power in shaping cultural dialogues and perceptions, showcasing the role of iconic imagery in the tapestry of social media discourse.

Les anticorps monoclonaux thérapeutiques en dermatologie ont d’abord été utilisés pour la prise en charge du psoriasis, puis, plus récemment, de l’urticaire chronique spontanée et de la dermatite atopique. Trois exemples seront abordés dans cette revue: le dupilumab, l’omalizumab et le lanadélumab. Leur mode d’action spécifique résulte d’une meilleure compréhension des mécanismes inflammatoires de ces maladies chroniques qui partageaient autrefois des traitements topiques ou systémiques plus ou moins ciblés. Leur utilisation onéreuse doit cependant être raisonnée par la mise en perspective de l’épidémiologie, de l’évaluation précise de la sévérité, de l’optimisation des traitements de première ligne, et de la balance bénéfices/risques.

Aux trois quarts tropicale humide, la Côte-d'Ivoire offre l'exemple d'un pays où la dynamique de plantation café et cacao repose sur la mobilisation toujours croissante de terres et de travail jusque-là disponibles. Il en résulte une production associée de féculents largement suffisante. Mais parallèlement l'amélioration générale des conditions de vie et l'accroissement des revenus monétaires paysans entraînent une augmentation et une diversification du régime alimentaire qui nécessitent des importations croissantes encouragées par une politique de prix favorable aux consommateurs. Les incertitudes qui pèsent sur l'avenir de la dynamique de plantation et la nécessité de maîtriser la balance commerciale , obligent à une nouvelle définition de la politique agricole dont la mise en œuvre reste difficile.

Cet article pose la problématique de la durabilité des systèmes halieutiques dans le contexte de l’exploitation des ressources pétrolières et gazières au Sénégal (Sangomar offshore, Cayar offshore et Saint-Louis offshore). Ces ressources stratégiques s’insèrent, voire s’incrustent dans des territoires de fortes traditions halieutiques. Lesquels ont su jouer un rôle déterminant dans la sécurité des ménages sénégalais en leur assurant la sécurité alimentaire et l’équilibre social, en sus de l’équilibre de la balance commerciale. Mais sont-ils suffisamment préparés pour résister aux mutations d’origine pétro-gazière tout en assurant la stabilité des systèmes halieutiques traditionnels ? Cette question commence à prendre forme dans les territoires de pêche de la Grande-Côte (Cayar et Saint-Louis) déjà infléchis par la crise halieutique issue des effets combinés du changement climatique et des pressions anthropiques sur les ressources. Ces territoires connaissent une baisse de leur production halieutique, à laquelle s’ajoutent la mise au chômage technique des acteurs de la pêche et la migration clandestine des jeunes pêcheurs vers l’Europe. Dans un tel contexte, une mise en prospective de ces systèmes halieutiques s’impose pour, d’une part, identifier des mécanismes de durabilité relatifs au maintien de leur vocation halieutique, et, d’autre part, élaborer des stratégies de diversification économique.

The Livre juratoire (“oath book”) contains the writing of the customs of Agen, that is to say the city’s urban liberties and franchises which were put in writing at the end of the 13th century. Through the 93 sheets of medieval parchment, one discovers the system of administration of the city, which confirms a balance of power between the count and the twelve consuls in the exercise of political prerogatives. Illuminations in the Livre juratoire occupy a very important place in this manuscript. Of its 57 articles, 51 are illuminated with a historiated initial or a miniature. Each of these images depicts the subject matter developed in the chapter it accompanies, according to the information conveyed by the text. From this point on, it would seem that the image maintains a semiological relationship with the text, which is indispensable to the construction of a general political discourse on consular “good government”.

La Maison de la Négritude et des Droits de l’Homme de Champagney, petite ville de Haute-Saône dans l’Est de la France, est née dans les années 1970 à la suite de la découverte dans les archives d’un extrait des cahiers de doléances de 1789 rédigé par des habitants de cette commune et demandant l’abolition de l’esclavage. Le qualificatif Négritude provient du parrainage que Léopold Sédar Senghor a voulu accorder à ce lieu, où la mise en valeur de ce « voeu de Champagney » s’articule à une muséographie obsolète consacrée à l’histoire de l’esclavage des Noirs à laquelle est juxtaposée une collection d’« art africain ». Sur le fond de ce patrimoine commun, un ensemble de pratiques et de points de vue différenciés se détachent nettement. Comment s’articulent ces expériences diverses? Peut-on parler de patrimoine interculturel? Ou plutôt d’une situation d’interculturalité en ce qu’elle tient de l’approche d’une altérité subsumée sous le thème de la Négritude. Cette altérité s’y trouve à la fois redoublée par la question de l’esclavage et en même temps incluse dans une commune humanité, sur le registre moral des Droits de l’Homme et au nom de l’héritage du Voeu de Champagney. Cette appréhension patrimoniale de l’altérité coexiste avec une volonté de traduire l’histoire de l’esclavage des Noirs pour en faire une ressource pour lutter contre les dominations et discriminations à l’oeuvre dans le monde contemporain, qui rentre elle-même en tension avec une mise en balance de ses propres souffrances sociales lorsque l’on est habitant ordinaire de Champagney au regard de la distance sociale qui peut être ressentie vis-à-vis des promoteurs de la Maison de la Négritude et des Droits de l’Homme.

La place de l’intubation dans le choc septique reste mal définie sans recommandation dictée par les sociétés savantes. Cette problématique met en balance les effets potentiellement bénéfiques de la ventilation mécanique (amélioration de l’oxygénation, repos musculaire diaphragmatique…) et délétères (risque du geste d’intubation, atrophie diaphragmatique, lésions pulmonaires induites par la ventilation, vasoplégie liée à la sédation…). L’intubation ne se discute pas lors des cas extrêmes de coma profond ou d’insuffisance respiratoire aiguë sévère. Néanmoins, la place de l’intubation dans les situations intermédiaires est actuellement peu étudiée et non codifiée. Cette mise au point a pour but d’apporter au lecteur une synthèse des résultats issus des dernières grandes études sur le choc septique. L’analyse suggère une association probable, non exclusive, entre gravité et taux d’intubation, qui reste à préciser. Bien que ces études n’aient pas étudié cette question, les données générales décrivent les caractéristiques « patient » et les données ventilatoires. Enfin, les résultats d’une étude spécifique sur le sujet et le projet de recherche en cours INTUBATIC (inclusions terminées) sont présentés, ce qui apportera peut-être une réponse à cette question dans les mois à venir.

Résumé La multiplicité des représentations du marché financier global aboutit souvent à une juxtaposition de logiques difficilement conciliables. Cet article part du constat, que les divergences de lecture de la finance mondiale relèvent d'abord des différences de niveau et de fréquence d'observation des phénomènes étudiés. Le contraste est saisissant entre la représentation la plus agrégée, celle des déséquilibres courants globaux, qui tend à formaliser le marché global comme le lieu d'équilibrage de l'épargne et de l'investissement des nations sur la base de déterminants réels (stade de développement, structure démographique, besoin de financement public...), et les approches les plus désagrégées en termes de transactions brutes où la volatilité, le surdimensionnement et le bruit prévalent. La balance des paiements, dont la présentation s'organise autour de l'équivalence comptable entre solde des transactions courantes et solde des flux de capitaux reflète cette ambivalence. Comment concilier alors la volatilité extrême des transactions, hypersensibles à un système de prix dont on peut douter de l'efficience, et l'apparente polarisation des flux d'épargne ? Le marché global demeure un espace hiérarchisé imparfaitement intégré. Une représentation géographique et institutionnelle des circuits de flux bruts de financement, permet de montrer la réalité des liens qui s'instaurent entre débiteurs et prêteurs. Elle rend compte d'une plus grande dispersion des dépendances financières que ne le suggère l'étude des flux nets. Elle restitue aussi les différences d'influence des agents. A ce niveau d'observation, trois éléments contribuent à la polarisation des flux financiers : — les décalages temporels dans la mise en œuvre de l'internationalisation des portefeuilles des investisseurs institutionnels — l'hétérogénéité des stratégies d'investissement et d'endettement des agents nationaux, avec une spécificité marquée du Japon — la localisation des intermédiaires financiers qui influe sur l'orientation des flux d'épargne. L'emprise financière décrite ici, loin d'être déstabilisatrice, participe à la polarisation et à la relative inertie des besoins de financement que décrit le haut de la balance des paiements.

The paper reflects on the usefulness of the alloy design methodology NICE (Niobium Intermetallic Composite Elaboration) for the development of new Nb-containing metallic ultra-high-temperature materials (UHTMs), namely refractory metal (Nb) intermetallic composites (RM(Nb)ICs), refractory high entropy alloys (RHEAs) and refractory complex concentrated alloys (RCCAs), in which the same phases can be present, specifically bcc solid solution(s), M5Si3 silicide(s) and Laves phases. The reasons why a new alloy design methodology was sought and the foundations on which NICE was built are discussed. It is shown that the alloying behavior of RM(Nb)ICs, RHEAs and RCCAs can be described by the same parameters. The practicality of parameter maps inspired by NICE for describing/understanding the alloying behavior and properties of alloys and their phases is demonstrated. It is described how NICE helps the alloy developer to understand better the alloys s/he develops and what s/he can do and predict (calculate) with NICE. The paper expands on RM(Nb)ICs, RHEAs and RCCAs with B, Ge or Sn, the addition of which and the presence of A15 compounds is recommended in RHEAs and RCCAs to achieve a balance of properties.

Plusieurs méthodes ont été proposées pour améliorer la récupération neurologique des patients cérébrolésés graves présentant des troubles de la conscience.
Objectif : faire une mise au point sur les techniques et approches thérapeutiques visant à stimuler la récupération de patients ayant une altération prolongée de la conscience.
Méthode : Les données de la littérature scientifique sont analysées en prenant en compte le niveau de preuve, la balance bénéfice-risque et la faisabilité.
Résultats et discussion : Les stimulations sensorielles personnalisées, la stimulation du nerf médian, la stimulation électrique par courant continue (tDCS), l’amantadine et le zolpidem ont un rapport bénéfice-risque favorable et sont faciles à mettre en œuvre. Ces approches devraient être proposées à tous les patients ayant une altération prolongée de l’état de conscience en complément d’une prise en charge globale comportant notamment des levers réguliers, l’évaluation et le traitement de la douleur, des soins de confort, la prise en compte du sommeil et des rythmes circadiens ainsi qu’un programme de rééducation multi-disciplinaire. D’autres méthodes plus invasives (stimulation du nerf vague, stimulation cérébrale profonde, baclofène intra-thécal) devraient pouvoir être discutées au cas par cas dans le cadre de réunions pluri-disciplinaires. Des travaux scientifiques complémentaires sont nécessaires et doivent être promus en raison de la gravité du handicap.

Sur une grande partie de l'Antarctique, le bilan de masse (c'est-à-dire de neige) de surface est dominé par quelques événements de précipitations extrêmes. Ces événements dépendent d'intrusions de masses d'air très humide associées à des phénomènes dénommés rivières atmosphériques en provenance de l'océan Austral. Ces rivières atmosphériques influencent fortement le climat ; pourtant, les caractéristiques, les mécanismes et les impacts associés restent mal connus en Antarctique. Nous résumons ici l'état des connaissances sur la mise en place de ces événements extrêmes et leurs impacts à la fois sur l'accumulation de neige, le réchauffement et la fonte en surface de la calotte. Over much of Antarctica, the surface mass balance (i.e. the resultant of snow fluxes at the surface of the ice sheet) is dominated by a few extreme precipitation events. It has recently been shown that these events are linked to intrusions of highly humid air masses related with atmospheric rivers traversing the Southern Ocean. These atmospheric rivers strongly influence the climate, yet their meteorological characterization and associated impacts remain poorly understood in Antarctica. We summarize here the latest research regarding the development of these extreme events and their impacts on snow accumulation, warming, and surface melt on the Antarctic ice sheet.

The philosopher Petar Bojanić advocates resistance of the architectural discipline to the philosophy of architecture. Using the technique of mise-en-scène, in “Thinking Architecture/Disciplining Architecture” (2015) Bojanić reaffirms that after architecture’s theoretical turn in the second half of the 20th century the architect is undoubtedly capable of theoretically thematizing his/her own work. I argue strongly that this implies, among other things, building a disciplinary language, which must reconcile, or at least balance between, the verbal and non-verbal form of expression. Also, I try to show that it is precisely theory that the architect has needed through history to establish the architectural discipline as liberal and autonomous.In “The Real and the Theoretical” (2013) the philosopher from Belgrade stresses the tensions between reality and theory present in the work of the architect. Theorizing in the field of architecture carries a danger of severe detachment from currently important and pressing social problems. Since there is no discipline without a group and since architecture is defined as the art of community, architectural practice can be understood, as it is in “The Architectural Philosophy” (2013), as a spatial way of transforming society. Abstract. The Sudano-Sahelian zone of West Africa, one of the poorest of the Earth, is characterized by high rainfall variability and rapid population growth. In this region, heavy storm events frequently cause extensive damage. Nonetheless, the projections for change in extreme rainfall values have shown a great divergence between Regional Climate Models (RCM), increasing the forecast uncertainty. Novel methodologies should be applied, taking into account both the variability provided by different RCMs, as well as the non-stationary nature of time series for the building of hazard maps of extreme rainfall events. The present work focuses on the probability density functions (PDFs)-based evaluation and a simple quantitative measure of how well each RCM considered can capture the observed annual maximum daily rainfall (AMDR) series on the Senegal River basin. Since meaningful trends have been detected in historical rainfall time series for the region, non-stationary probabilistic models were used to fit the PDF parameters to the AMDR time series. In the development of PDF ensemble by bootstrapping techniques, Reliability Ensemble Averaging (REA) maps were applied to score the RCMs. The REA factors were computed using a metric to evaluate the agreement between observed -or best estimated- PDFs, and that simulated with each RCM. The assessment of plausible regional trends associated to the return period, from the hazard maps of AMDR, showed a general rise, owing to an increase in the mean and the variability of extreme precipitation. These spatial-temporal distributions could be considered by Organization for the Development of the Senegal River (Organisation pour la mise en valeur du fleuve Sénégal, OMVS), in such a way as to reach a better balance between mitigation and adaptation.

The medical responsability for the wellness of the patient adds to the actual advanced technologies that is the origin to propose more efficent interventions. An example is the XLIF (extreme laterla interbody fusion) represents one of the avant-gard techniques of spine surgery. The XLIF represents an excelent option for the treatment of some spine compelx pathologies that needs descompression, balance alignement, arthrodesis and stabilization: degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis grade l and ll, deformities like degenerative scoliosis or adjacent disc disease are examples where the benefit of this technicc is evident. The XLIF represents an excelent option for the treatment of some spine compelx pathologies that needs descompression, balance alignement, arthrodesis and stabilization: degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis grade l and ll, deformities like degenerative scoliosis or adjacent disc disease are examples where the benefit of this technicc is evident. However, this method is contraindicated for L5-S1 (limited by iliac crest) disc disease or spondylolisthesis grade lll for example.

La filière avicole française, qui bénéficie encore d’une croissance de la demande intérieure, a enregistré une baisse de sa production au cours de la dernière décennie, surtout en dindes. Cette évolution traduit une perte de compétitivité par rapport à d’autres pays, notamment européens, particulièrement structurés en termes productif et industriel et dynamiques en termes d’innovations et de réseaux commerciaux. Les importations françaises de viande de volailles, qui proviennent en priorité de pays voisins (Allemagne, Belgique et Pays-Bas) et beaucoup plus marginalement des grands acteurs du commerce mondial (Brésil, USA, Thaïlande…), sont devenues préoccupantes. Elles représentent, en 2014, plus de 30% de la consommation intérieure contre un peu moins de 15% en 2000. Si la balance commerciale de la France en viande de volailles avec les pays tiers (hors Union Européenne) demeure positive, rien n’est acquis pour le futur. A court terme, la mise à zéro des restitutions n’a pas encore produit tous ses effets et les exportateurs français ont bénéficié depuis mi-2014 d’une parité entre l’euro et le dollar favorable. A moyen terme, la concurrence entre les grandes zones exportatrices pourrait s’accentuer en raison des différentiels de compétitivité, de l’ouverture croissante des marchés et de la sensibilité des flux commerciaux à l’évolution des parités monétaires. Le nombre de pays clients de la France est limité, ce qui accentue le niveau de dépendance à des considérations ciblées d’ordre géopolitique ou économique. Enfin, l’évolution récente des règles européennes relatives aux aides à l’export peut fragiliser les produits historiquement bénéficiaires. En conclusion, une attention est portée aux principales raisons d’espérer pour la filière avicole française : une forte dynamique de la demande mondiale ; un marché français à forte valeur ajoutée sur certains créneaux (volaille de qualité) ; l’amorce d’une restructuration de la filière française qui devrait favoriser une reconquête au moins partielle du marché domestique.

La zone d’étude est caractérisée par un climat désertique. La modélisation hydrogéologique a été mise en œuvre par le logiciel MODFLOW. La nappe a été simulée en régime permanent et transitoire ; elle résout l’équation gouvernante de l’écoulement des eaux souterraines en milieux poreux continus et elle calcule la charge hydraulique par simulation des éléments comme : drain, puits, oued, etc. Le modèle numérique ainsi élaboré a permis d’estimer le bilan des aquifères des palmeraies de Figuig et de la plaine de Tisserfine-El Arja dans les deux cas : les conditions actuelles et le scénario de gestion simulant l’élimination des apports des barrages de Sfissif et de Rkiza, par l’oued Tisserfine jusqu’à l’oued Zouzfana.
The current study aims at providing a hydrodynamic model of the Quaternary water aquifer in Figuig; the water aquifer generally flows in a silty alluvial soil and travertine limestone of the Quaternary with an impermeable substratum of the Jurassic marl. The area of the study is characterised by a desert climate. The hydrogeological modelling was carried out using the MODFLOW software. The groundwater was simulated in permanent and transient regime; it solves the governing equation of groundwater flow in continuous porous media and calculates the hydraulic load by simulating elements such as: drain, well, river... Therefore, the digital model developed allowed us to estimate the aquifer balance of Figuig palm groves and Tisserfine-El Arja plain in the two cases: the current conditions and the management scenario simulating the elimination of the inflows from the Sfissif and Rkiza dams, through the Tisserfine wadi to the Zouzfana wadi.

Dans le secteur du tourisme, l’appauvrissement des atouts de la biodiversité, paysagers et génétiques dû aux activités touristiques est très considérable, de ce fait, la régulation des équilibres devrait être imminente surtout suite à l’ouverture du monde rural et naturel au tourisme.
Voulant axer l’activité touristique, le développement durable et l’environnement au centre d’une politique de gestion originale et durable. Les Paiements pour Services Environnementaux sont considérés comme étant le vocable commun qui permet de tracer un enjeu collectif mobilisant différents acteurs et mariant des secteurs malgré leur divergence. C’est une nouvelle approche managériale de développement représentant un gage d’efficacité par rapport aux autres mesures de conservation et ayant des échos de réussite dans plusieurs pays du globe. Nous pouvons les considérer comme étant un nouvel parangon face aux problèmes venant pallier les limites des instruments antérieurs.
Dans notre cas, l’idée est de procréer une production monétaire au service de l’environnement et du patrimoine culturel et naturel dans un cadre touristique et durable.
De ce fait, notre fond PSE est une notion discursive qui lie plusieurs raisonnements et les rend conciliables, mais aussi, qui fait remonter une panoplie d’interrogations relatives à la détermination des acteurs concernés, au montant de financement, à la définition du service environnementale, de son bénéficiaire et de ses bénéfices… Des interrogations auxquelles nous avons apporté des éléments de réponse à travers cet article qui vise à recentrer les principes de ces procédés socioéconomique et environnemental et les converger vers une application sur le secteur touristique dans les régions rurales.

We developed a high-resolution MIKE SHE/MIKE 11 model of a 231.3 ha headwater catchment in the granitic uplands of the French Massif Central to estimate the contribution of groundwater upwelling to the water balance of the Dauges mire, an acidic valley mire of international importance for nature conservation. We estimated that groundwater upwelling from the underlying weathered granite formations – mostly an approximately 55 m deep fissured zone – provides 27.1 % of total long-term inflows to the mire. This contribution increases to 37.2 % in September when total inflows are small. Overland boundary inflow accounts for an average of 40.2 % of total inflows. However, most of this originates from groundwater seepage through mineral soils along the mire margins or in small non-channelised valleys upslope of the mire. A sensitivity analysis showed that model performance in terms of the simulation of mire groundwater levels was most sensitive to parameters describing the mineral soils and weathered granite formations rather than the overlying peat layer. Variation partitioning demonstrated that groundwater upwelling was the most important factor driving simulated monthly groundwater table depth within the mire. Sustained groundwater upwelling maintains the mire water table close to or at ground level for most of the year. As a result, precipitation and overland boundary inflows quickly leave the wetland as saturation-excess runoff. There was close agreement between the observed distribution of mire habitats and areas where the simulated long-term groundwater seepage rate was larger than zero in September. Our results demonstrate that, contrary to the assumed small contribution of groundwater to the hydrology of hard-rock regions, groundwater upwelling from underlying weathered formations can be a quantitatively important and functionally critical element of the water balance of valley mires in granitic headwater catchments. These results have important legal and management implications.

Au Japon et en RFA, celui-ci n'était cependant attendu que pour le début de 1991 lorsque se seraient estompés les stimulants exceptionnels de demande intérieure. Dans la plupart des pays européens, à des degrés divers, le rythme de l'activité s'infléchissait déjà tandis que celui de la hausse des prix s'accélérait. Le Royaume-Uni et les Etats-Unis étaient en fin de cycle ; le premier était au bord d'une récession inflationniste, les seconds d'un « soft-landing ». Le déséquilibre entre les balances courantes des trois grandes puissances mondiales continuait à s'atténuer. La situation des pays non OCDE était plus sombre. Parmi les PVD, seuls quelques pays d'Extrême-Orient avaient de bonnes perspectives de croissance. Dans les pays d'Europe de l'Est, la mise en place des réformes et la désorganisation générale occasionnaient de véritables dépressions. La crise du Golfe n'équivaut encore qu'à un petit choc pétrolier. L'analyse développée ici suppose que vers le milieu de l'année 1991 la diplomatie, s'appuyant sur l'embargo, rendrait vraisemblable dans un avenir proche l'évacuation du Koweït par l'Irak et le retour sur le marché mondial du pétrole habituellement exporté par ces deux pays. En conséquence, après avoir oscillé au voisinage de 35 dollars/baril au dernier trimestre 1990 et au premier trimestre 1991, le prix du pétrole retomberait jusqu'à moins de 20 dollars fin 1991. Pour les pays de l'OCDE, les prix à la consommation en seraient dès à présent accrus de + 0,5 à + 1 %, la croissance de 1991 se trouvant amputée d'un montant équivalent. Les PNB européens s'élèveraient alors en moyenne de 2 % en 1991, à mi-chemin entre le Japon et les Etats-Unis. Ce dernier pays verrait son activité diminuer au seul premier semestre, l'ensemble de l'année dégageant une variation légèrement positive. Pour les autres pays, à l'exception des exportateurs nets de pétrole (dont l'URSS), les conséquences seraient plus graves : PVD et Europe de l'Est, déjà soumis à une forte contrainte de balance des paiements, seraient contraints de réduire de manière draconienne leurs importations de tous produits. En France, un ralentissement de l'activité très marqué au premier semestre 1990 et la crise du Golfe devraient freiner la croissance d'un demi point l'an prochain. Le PIB progresserait de près de 3 % en 1990 mais de 2 % seulement en 1991. Abstract. Evapotranspiration is the main link between the natural water cycle and the land surface energy budget. Therefore water-balance and energy-balance approaches are two of the main methodologies for modelling of this process. The water-balance approach ensures that the amount of water coming into a system, mainly through precipitation, is balanced by the amount of water leaving the system through evapotranspiration, runoff and other processes. This modelling methodology is usually implemented as a complex, distributed hydrological model. The energy-balance approach ensures the conservation of energy at the land surface and is often used with remotely sensed observations of, for example, the land surface temperature (LST) and the state of the vegetation. In this study we compare the catchment scale output of two remote sensing models based on the Two-Source Energy Balance (TSEB) scheme, against a hydrological model, MIKE SHE, calibrated over the Skjern river catchment in western Denmark, the area covered by the Danish Hydrological Observatory (HOBE). The first TSEB model utilizes the time differential LST measurements provided by the night and day overpasses of the MODIS sensor aboard the Aqua satellite, while the second uses the dual-angle LST measurements made available by the AATSR sensor that used to fly on the Envisat satellite. All three models use the same ancillary data (meteorological measurements, land cover type and leaf area index, etc.) and produce output at similar spatial resolution (1 km for the TSEB models, 500 m for MIKE SHE). The comparison is performed on the spatial patterns of the fluxes present within the catchment area as well as on temporal patterns visible in 7 year long time series. The results aid the understanding of strengths and weaknesses of each modelling approach and explore the benefits to the hydrological modelling community of evapotranspiration maps derived with the energy-balance methodology.

While research on the consequences of organizational commitment to IT has focused on outcomes of interest to shareholders, such as profitability and firm value, recent research has also considered other stakeholders that might benefit from an increased organizational commitment to IT, especially customers. We extend this line of the literature by investigating the benefits of a firm’s organizational commitment to IT for firms’ employees, a stakeholder group that uses and depends heavily on IT in its daily work. This exploratory study links a firm’s organizational commitment to IT with the nonmonetary employee metrics of job satisfaction and work-life balance and embeds these associations in the industry’s dynamism and concentration. We test our research model with a multi-industry dataset of 523 firms from the S&P 500 (2008-2017 period). Our findings indicate that an organizational commitment to IT may facilitate job satisfaction and work-life balance but only when industry dynamism and industry concentration are low. Additional analyses show that IT commitment’s influence on these outcomes depends on the firm’s commitment to particular IT technologies; for instance, organizational commitments to cloud technology and remote technology are particularly positively associated with work-life balance.

The author considered the modern trends in the development of the operetta theater under the influence of a change in its paradigm. The main elements of the play's design are analyzed from the point of view of the director's vision of a creative graduate student. The content of the director's expansion of the libretto of Jacques Offenbach's operetta "The Key on the Pavement" is clarified, which consists in adding inserted episodes in order to modernize the work and so to dynamize it by finding new colors, namely: the prologue - an interactive scene of the meeting of the audience by mimance artists in the hall of the theater for direct involving the audience in the theatrical action and the dance-pantomime scene during the overture with the greeting of the newlyweds and the handing over of wedding gifts. The director's means of expression, the nature of their synthesis in an artistic project are outlined. The director's model of the artistic project based on J. Offenbach's operetta "The Key on the Pavement" in the author's vision of a creative graduate student has been determined. The content of the director's expansion of the libretto of J. Offenbach's operetta "The Key on the Pavement" is clarified, which consists in adding some episodes this innovation gives the operetta a modern structure that attracts the contemporary audience. The main elements of the director's idea of the play were revealed: scenographic solution, mise-en-scène drawing, director's characterization of the personages with the development of their psychological portraits, supertasks and artistic images of the characters of the play. The director's idea of the project was formed in the context of the composer's conceptual vision for a harmonious combination of form and content. It has been proven that the most vivid directorial means of expressiveness of contemporary theater art is the use of multimedia and the latest art technologies. Emphasis is placed on their compliance with the requirements of the time, on special attention to the balance and expediency of their use, harmony with the original work. The vectors of further scientific research in the context of modernization of operetta performances, which are caused by the change of the theater paradigm and the search for modern directorial means of expression to increase the impact on the audience, are predicted.

The well-balanced secretion between insulin and growth hormone (GH) is essential in regulating substrate metabolism, energy metabolism, and body composition. High insulin and low GH levels are often observed in obesity, contributing to reduced energy expenditure and further fat accumulation. Although suppression of hyperinsulinemia is proposed as a treatment for obesity, changes in GH secretion and energy metabolism following this treatment are not thoroughly studied. This leaves unexplained observations, such as unchanged lean mass following insulin reduction. In this study, high-fat diet-induced obese (DIO) and normal chow-fed lean mice on a C57BL/6J background were treated for 7 weeks with diazoxide (1250 mg/kg in food), a KATP channel opener that suppressed insulin secretion. Diazoxide treatment for 10 days was sufficient to increase pulsatile GH secretion in DIO mice before any significant body weight change. The restored insulin-GH balance in DIO mice was followed by improvement in substrate and energy metabolism in a prolonged treatment period (4–6 weeks), including reduced fat mass, increased lipid oxidation and energy expenditure, as well as improved insulin sensitivity and metabolic flexibility. These metabolic benefits occurred along with the changes in the expression level of genes regulated by the insulin-GH balance. When applying diazoxide to normal chow-fed normoinsulinemic lean mice, none of the above metabolic effects was observed, suggesting that the metabolic changes following diazoxide treatment were mediated through the suppression of hyperinsulinemia. These results suggest that suppression of hyperinsulinemia by diazoxide restores GH secretion and improves substrate and energy metabolism in DIO mice.

TRPM2 Ca2+-permeable cation channel is widely expressed and activated by markers of cellular stress. Since inflammation and stress play a major role in insulin resistance, we examined the role of TRPM2 Ca2+ channel in glucose metabolism. A 2-h hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp was performed in TRPM2-deficient (KO) and wild-type mice to assess insulin sensitivity. To examine the effects of diet-induced obesity, mice were fed a high-fat diet for 4–10 mo, and metabolic cage and clamp studies were conducted in conscious mice. TRPM2-KO mice were more insulin sensitive partly because of increased glucose metabolism in peripheral organs. After 4 mo of high-fat feeding, TRPM2-KO mice were resistant to diet-induced obesity, and this was associated with increased energy expenditure and elevated expressions of PGC-1α, PGC-1β, PPARα, ERRα, TFAM, and MCAD in white adipose tissue. Hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamps showed that TRPM2-KO mice were more insulin sensitive, with increased Akt and GSK-3β phosphorylation in heart. Obesity-mediated inflammation in adipose tissue and liver was attenuated in TRPM2-KO mice. Overall, TRPM2 deletion protected mice from developing diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance. Our findings identify a novel role of TRPM2 Ca2+ channel in the regulation of energy expenditure, inflammation, and insulin resistance.

The mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) type VII mouse was originally described as the adipose storage deficiency mouse because of its extreme lean phenotype of unknown etiology. Here, we show that adipose storage deficiency and lower leptin levels are common to five different lysosomal storage diseases (LSDs): MPSI, MPSIIIB, MPSVII, Niemann-Pick type A/B, and infantile neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis. Elevated circulating pro-inflammatory proteins (VCAM1 and MCP1) were found in multiple LSDs. Multiple anti-inflammatory strategies (dexamethasone, MCP1 deficiency, M3 expression) failed to alter adiposity in LSD animals. All of the models had normal or greater caloric intake and lower to normal metabolic rate, fasting plasma glucose, non-esterified fatty acids, cholesterol, and triglycerides. Triglycerides were lower in the livers of MPSI mice, and the trend was lower in the muscle. Lipid absorption and processing in MPSI mice were indistinguishable from those in normal mice following oral gavage of olive oil. The increased lean mass of MPSI and MPSIIIB mice suggests a shift in adipose triglycerides to lysosomal storage. In agreement, MPSI livers had a similar total caloric content but reduced caloric density, indicating a shift in energy from lipids to proteins/carbohydrates (lysosomal storage). Enzyme replacement therapy normalized the caloric density within 48 h without reducing total caloric content. This was due to an increase in lipids. Recycling of stored material is likely reduced or nonexistent. Therefore, to maintain homeostasis, energy is likely diverted to synthesis at the expense of typical energy storage depots. Thus, these diseases will serve as important tools in studying the role of lysosome function in metabolism and obesity.

Purpose. To develop and test the energy and cost criteria for evaluating the operation efficiency of a closed geothermal system using coaxial or U-shaped probes that can be installed in flooded workings of mines. Methodology. To justify the energy and cost criteria, we applied thermodynamic, hydraulic and cost-efficiency relationships, conducted the engineering analysis of closed geothermal systems, studied hydrogeological settings and geothermal conditions of the mines of the Selidovo group in Donbas. The developed criteria were examined within the ranges of key parameters such as the flow rate of the heat transfer fluid and the probe submerged length. Findings. We quantified the influence of the probe submerged length and the heat transfer fluid flow rate on the energy balance and the net present value NPV and identified the parameter combinations that allow achieving efficient heat recovery in terms of energy balance and cost-efficiency. The produced/spent energy ratio may reach 1.52.2 and the NPV a few dozen thousand when increasing the submerged depth to 500 m at the flow rate of 20m3/d. A higher flow rate may lead to a negative energy balance but the NPV remains positive within some ranges of the probe submerged length, thus, indicating the system profitability. The payback period can be shortened to a few years. Originality. The proposed energy criterion balances the thermal energy produced and the thermal equivalent of electric energy generated using fossil fuel and spent on system operation. This ratio as distinct from the usually applied COP parameter allows comparing the energies of the same nature and drawing more adequate conclusions on environmental acceptability of a geothermal system. Practical value. The proposed criteria can be used for prioritization of geothermal system installation and the operation efficiency evaluation among the number of potential sites in post mining areas.

Background/AIM: STIM1 is as an essential component in store operated Ca2+ entry. However give the paucity of information on the role of STIM1 in kidney, the aim was to study the function of STIM1 in the medulla of the kidney. Methods: we crossed a Ksp-cre mouse with another mouse containing two loxP sites flanking Exon 6 of STIM1. The Ksp-cre mouse is based upon the Ksp-cadherin gene promoter which expresses cre recombinase in developing nephrons, collecting ducts (SD) and thick ascending limbs (TAL) of the loop of Henle. Results: The offspring of these mice are viable without gross morphological changes, however, we noticed that the STIM1 Ksp-cre knockout mice produced more urine compared to control. To examine this more carefully, we fed mice low (LP) and high protein (HP) diets respectively. When mice were fed HP diet STIM1 ko mice had significantly increased urinary volume and lower specific gravity compared to wt mice. In STIM1 ko mice fed HP diet urine creatinine and urea were significantly lower compared to wt mice fed HP diet, however the fractional excretion was the same. Conclusion: These data support the idea that STIM1 ko mice have impaired urinary concentrating ability when challenged with HP diet is most likely caused by impaired Ca2+-dependent signal transduction through the vasopressin receptor cascade.

Experiments were performed to investigate the influence of exercise training on cardiovascular function in mice. Heart rate, arterial pressure, baroreflex sensitivity, and autonomic control of heart rate were measured in conscious, unrestrained male C57/6J sedentary ( n = 8) and trained mice ( n = 8). The exercise training protocol used a treadmill (1 h/day; 5 days/wk for 4 wk). Baroreflex sensitivity was evaluated by the tachycardic and bradycardic responses induced by sodium nitroprusside and phenylephrine, respectively. Autonomic control of heart rate and intrinsic heart rate were determined by use of methylatropine and propranolol. Resting bradycardia was observed in trained mice compared with sedentary animals [485 ± 9 vs. 612 ± 5 beats/min (bpm)], whereas mean arterial pressure was not different between the groups (106 ± 2 vs. 108 ± 3 mmHg). Baroreflex-mediated tachycardia was significantly enhanced in the trained group (6.97 ± 0.97 vs. 1.6 ± 0.21 bpm/mmHg, trained vs. sedentary), whereas baroreflex-mediated bradycardia was not altered by training. The tachycardia induced by methylatropine was significantly increased in trained animals (139 ± 12 vs. 40 ± 9 bpm, trained vs. sedentary), whereas the propranolol effect was significantly reduced in the trained group (49 ± 11 vs. 97 ± 11 bpm, trained vs. sedentary). Intrinsic heart rate was similar between groups. In conclusion, dynamic exercise training in mice induced a resting bradycardia and an improvement in baroreflex-mediated tachycardia. These changes are likely related to an increased vagal and decreased sympathetic tone, similar to the exercise response observed in humans.

The Src homology 2 domain-containing protein-tyrosine phosphatase Src homology phosphatase 2 (Shp2) is a negative regulator of hepatic insulin action in mice fed regular chow. To investigate the role of hepatic Shp2 in lipid metabolism and energy balance, we determined the metabolic effects of its deletion in mice challenged with a high-fat diet (HFD). We analyzed body mass, lipid metabolism, insulin sensitivity, and glucose tolerance in liver-specific Shp2-deficient mice (referred to herein as LSHKO) and control mice fed HFD. Hepatic Shp2 protein expression is regulated by nutritional status, increasing in mice fed HFD and decreasing during fasting. LSHKO mice gained less weight and exhibited increased energy expenditure compared with control mice. In addition, hepatic Shp2 deficiency led to decreased liver steatosis, enhanced insulin-induced suppression of hepatic glucose production, and impeded the development of insulin resistance after high-fat feeding. At the molecular level, LSHKO exhibited decreased hepatic endoplasmic reticulum stress and inflammation compared with control mice. In addition, tyrosine and serine phosphorylation of total and mitochondrial signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 were enhanced in LSHKO compared with control mice. In line with this observation and the increased energy expenditure of LSHKO, oxygen consumption rate was higher in liver mitochondria of LSHKO compared with controls. Collectively, these studies identify hepatic Shp2 as a novel regulator of systemic energy balance under conditions of high-fat feeding.

Homozygous deletion of the gene of the neuronal glucose transporter GLUT3 ( Slc2a3) in mice results in embryonic lethality, whereas heterozygotes ( Slc2a3+/−) are viable. Here, we describe the characterization of heterozygous mice with regard to neuronal function, glucose homeostasis, and, since GLUT3 might be a component of the neuronal glucose-sensing mechanism, food intake and energy balance. Levels of GLUT3 mRNA and protein in brain were reduced by 50% in Slc2a3+/− mice. Electrographic features examined by electroencephalographic recordings give evidence for slightly but significantly enhanced cerebrocortical activity in Slc2a3+/− mice. In addition, Slc2a3+/− mice were slightly more sensitive to an acoustic startle stimulus (elevated startle amplitude and reduced prepulse inhibition). However, systemic behavioral testing revealed no other functional abnormalities, e.g., in coordination, reflexes, motor abilities, anxiety, learning, and memory. Furthermore, no differences in body weight, blood glucose, and insulin levels were detected between wild-type and Slc2a3+/− littermates. Food intake as monitored randomly or after intracerebroventricular administration of 2-deoxyglucose or d-glucose, or food choice for carbohydrates/fat was not affected in Slc2a3+/− mice. Taken together, our data indicate that, in contrast to Slc2a1, a single allele of Slc2a3 is sufficient for maintenance of neuronal energy supply, motor abilities, learning and memory, and feeding behavior.

Abstract Innate CD8αα+ cells (iCD8α) are TCRneg intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL) that possess immune functions such as phagocytosis, bacteria killing, and antigen processing and presentation. Recently our group and others reported that iCD8α cells promote IEL survival via osteopontin. Herein, we investigate whether iCD8α cells sustain intestinal homeostasis through maintaining IEL balance. We compared the number of IEL in the colon of WT and iCD8α-deficient mice (E8i−/−). E8i is an enhancer required for CD8α homodimer expression in IEL. Despite the dramatic reduction of CD8αα expression on TCRαβ+ and TCRgd+ IEL in E8i−/− mice, the total cell numbers were comparable to WT mice. E8i−/− mice had higher number of TCRβ+CD4+, and lower number of TCRβ+CD4+CD8α+ and TCRβ+CD8αα+ IEL. There were no differences in TCRβ+CD8αβ+ and TCRneg IEL. Then, we tested the role of iCD8α cells during intestinal inflammation in different colitis models. iCD8α-deficient mice had higher susceptibility to Citrobacter rodentium infection as indicated by increased weight loss, disease index, and bacterial load in the colon compared to WT mice. Similar results were obtained using DSS-induced colitis: E8i−/− mice presented increased shortening of colon and pathological scores. Finally, we performed adoptive transfer of naïve CD4 T cells into Rag-2−/− and E8i−/−Rag-2−/− mice. iCD8α-deficient mice rapidly developed chronic colitis, manifested by sever weight loss and bloody diarrhea. These mice also reconstituted with higher number of donor-derived CD4 T cells that mostly developed into pathogenic TCRβ+CD4+ IEL. Our results indicate that iCD8α cells have a critical role in the maintenance of IEL homeostasis and healthy intestines.

Abstract Hmgb3 is an X-linked member of a family of sequence-independent chromatin-binding proteins that is preferentially expressed in hematopoietic stem cells (HSC; lin−, c-kitHI, Sca-1HI, IL-7Rα−). Hmgb3 deficient mice (Hmgb3−/Y: KO) contain normal numbers of HSCs, capable of repopulation and self-renewal, but fewer common lymphoid (CLP: lin−, c-kitLO, Sca-1LO, IL-7Rα+) and myeloid (CMP: lin−, c-kit+, Sca-1−, IL-7Rα−) progenitors (Nemeth et al. Blood, 2005). We hypothesized this reduction may be due to impaired production of CLP and CMP by KO HSCs or by rapid differentiation of KO CLP and CMP. CMP were isolated from littermate control (WT) and KO mice. The initial CFU number was compared to CFU numbers from CMP cultured for 5 days in serum-free media containing SCF, Flt3L, IL-3, IL-6 and TPO. WT CMP (n = 12) increased 2.7 ± 1.8-fold in CFU-GM/1000 CMP between d0 and d5. KO CMP (n = 12) increased 4.9 ± 1.9-fold between d0 and d5 (p = .16, ns). We conclude that WT and KO CMP are functionally similar. To test whether reduced CMP levels in KO mice are due to decreased CMP production, we compared the effect of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) on WT and KO HSC, CLP, and CMP populations. FACS analysis showed that lin− cells from untreated WT mice were 0.14% HSC, 0.10 % CLP and 1.2% CMP compared to 0.13% HSC, 0.06% CLP, and 0.84% CMP in KO mice. 2 days post-injection (p.i.) of 150 mg/kg 5-FU, lin− cells from WT mice were 0% HSC, 0.12% CLP, and 1.4% CMP compared to 0.01%, 0.09%, and 1.1% respectively in KO mice. 4 days p.i., WT mice had 0% HSC, 0.25% CLP, and 0.03% CMP, but KO mice showed a recovery of HSC (1.04 ± 0.34%; p < .001), CLP (0.68%) and CMP (2.8%). 8 days later, WT mice recovered comparable levels of HSC (1.06%) CLP (0.19%) and CMP (0.44%). We analyzed repopulating activity by transplanting 1 x 104 lin−, Sca-1+, IL-7Rα−, c-kitHI or c-kitNEG cells (Ly 5.2) from untreated and 4-day p.i. WT or KO mice with 1 x 106 congenic (Ly 5.1) bone marrow cells into Ly5.1/5.2 recipients. 12 weeks after transplant, untreated WT and KO c-kitHI cells repopulated recipients (> 90% Ly 5.2) but not untreated c-kitNEG cells. In agreement with previous results (Randall et al., Blood, 1997), recipients of c-kitNEG cells from 4-day p.i. WT bone marrow contained 78.4 ± 18.0% Ly5.2 cells (n = 6), representing all of the repopulating ability as c-kitHI cells from 4-day p.i. WT mice were absent. In contrast, recipients of either KO c-kitNEG cells (86.3 ± 7.2% Ly 5.2; n = 7) or ckitHI cells (82.8 ± 6.9% Ly5.2; n = 6) from 4-day p.i. KO mice showed long-term repopulation. Because c-kit cannot be used as an HSC marker in post 5-FU bone marrow, we isolated lin−, Sca-1+, IL-7Rα−, side-population (SP)+ cells to analyze the cell cycle status of WT and KO HSCs 2 and 4 days p.i. 14.0% of untreated WT and 13.3% of KO HSCs are in the S/G2/M phases (Nemeth et al., Blood, 2005). 2 days p.i. 32.3% of WT SP+ HSCs and 31.9% of KO SP+ HSCs were in the S/G2/M phases. 4 days p.i., 21.2 ± 0.2% of WT SP+ HSCs were cycling while only 12.4 ± 2.2% of KO SP+ HSCs were cycling (p < .01), leading us to hypothesize that KO HSCs have recovered and resumed steady-state cycling levels. To determine whether Wnt signaling regulated KO HSC self-renewal, KO mice were mated with mice containing a lacZ reporter gene for the Wnt pathway (TOPGAL). We observed a 2.8-fold increase in lacZ expression in steady-state HSCs isolated from TOPGAL x KO mice compared to TOPGAL controls. We conclude that Hmgb3 deficiency allows for rapid HSC self-renewal, corresponding with increased Wnt signaling, and that Hmgb3 regulates the balance between the production of CLP and CMP and self-renewal.
