E probléma megoldására Zorn, M.A. definiálta a vektor-mátrix struktúrákat a split (hasított) oktoniók algebrájának leírására 1933-ban. A dolgozat utolsó fejezetében megkonstruáljuk az 𝕄𝛼𝛽 általánosított hiperbolikus kvaterniók általánosított vektor-mátrix reprezentációját.

Vannak olyan, csak szabályos sokszöglapok által határolt konvex nemuniform poliéderek, melyek nem modellezhetők euklidészi típusú szerkesztéssel (a körzővel és vonalzóval történő síkbeli szerkesztés 3-dimenziós analogonjával). Dinamikus geometriai módszerek alkalmazásával azonban tetszőleges pontossággal modellezhetők ezek a poliéderek: minden ilyen poliéderhez megszerkeszthető egy olyan paraméteres, számítógépes poliédermodell, amely egy egyparaméteres poliédercsalád modellje, és egy bizonyos paraméterérték esetén az adott, szabályos sokszöglapokkal határolt poliéderrel egyezik meg, valamint a paraméterérték a szükséges pontossággal beállítható úgy, hogy a hozzá tartozó virtuális modell tetszőleges előírt mértékben közelítse a kívánt poliédert.

Abstract:
Forestry is an important industry in Sweden, with clear-cut as the most commonly used method for harvesting. Here the long-term impact of clear-cut on lake water quality (dissolved organic carbon (DOC), nitrogen, phosphorus and pH) has been investigated, based on 23 lakes sampled during autumn. Data for additional 15 lakes sampled for the Swedish monitoring program were also used. Lakes were classified as 5, 25, 40 and 60 year based on data of the forest age in the catchment, gathered from the Swedish national forest inventory. Clear-cut lakes were classified as 5 years (>20% of the catchment clear-cut during the last 10 years). The results showed that DOC and total nitrogen (TN) concentrations decreased with increasing age of the forests. In clear-cut lakes (5 year) average DOC- (20.5 mg/L) and TN concentrations (477 µg/L) were higher than the average concentration in lakes with older forests (25, 40 and 60 year) (i.e. DOC 13.5 mg/L and TN 351 µg/L). Also the quality of DOC were changing (measured as changes in absorbance at 254) with forest age, with more bioavailable (low molecular weight) DOC in clear-cut lakes. A greater clear-cut area compared to the catchment area did not significantly result in higher concentrations of DOC and TN in clear-cut lakes. In conclusion, the concentration of TN, and the concentration and quality of DOC, in small boreal lakes are affected by clear-cutting and are changing with the age of the forest stand. Thus, highest concentrations and more bioavailable carbon compounds are found in clear-cut lakes where forests recently has been removed (<10 year).

Till sommaren 2019 börjar den nya Läroplanen för förskolan att gälla. I den skrivs begreppet undervisning fram. Det saknas idag en tydlig definition av begreppet vilket gör att förskollärare känner en osäkerhet kring undervisning. Studiens syfte är därför att utifrån ett didaktiskt perspektiv bidra med kunskap om förskollärare och barnskötares diskussion om undervisning i förskolan. Det sker genom att studera förskollärare och barnskötares tal om möjligheter och begräsningar för lärande i samling i förhållande till de pedagogiska atmosfärerna. De frågeställningar som studien bygger på är: I vilket syfte genomförs samlingar? Hur planerar förskollärare undervisning? och Vad kan möjliggöra och begränsa barns lärande i samlingen? För att samla in data genomfördes tre fokusgrupper med totalt åtta deltagare. Sex deltagare är förskollärare och två är barnskötare. Undersökningen genomfördes på tre olika förskolor. Resultatet visar i huvudsak på att begreppet undervisning är svårtolkat. Förskollärarna och barnskötarna menar att begreppet har diskuterats mycket men att det fortfarande saknas en tydlig definition. Samlingen används inte för undervisning i första hand utan undervisning sker i mindre grupper. Läroplanen ligger till grund för planering. Resultatet visar att förskollärare och barnskötares pedagogiska atmosfär påverkar vilka möjligheter och begränsningar som finns för lärande. Abstract:
Ce travail de thèse consiste le développement d’un élément fini de plaque et de coque courbe géométriquement simple (4 nœuds), basé sur une nouvelle approche variationnelle appelée DDM (Displacement Discrete Mindlin). Il prend en compte l’effet du cisaillement transversal CT à travers l’épaisseur. Le modèle DDM introduit de manière discrète deux hypothèses de Mindlin. La première hypothèse est cinématique, elle consiste à introduire sous la forme d’une intégrale de contour une équation cinématique de la déformation de CT. Elle permet l’élimination du verrouillage en CT sans introduire des fonctions bulles ou sans recourir à l’intégration réduite ou sélective. Il s’agit de l’approche des déformations de CT de substitution, connue sous le nom de « ANS method : Assumed Natural Strains ». La seconde hypothèse fait appel à deux lois de comportement, l’une en flexion et l’autre en CT, et deux équations d’équilibre d’une plaque en flexion/CT. Elle a pour principal avantage une élimination locale des degrés de libertés de rotation, introduits initialement au milieu d’un bord élémentaire par le biais d’une approximation quadratique des rotations de la normale à la surface moyenne
The present work of the thesis deals with the theoretical formulation and the evaluation of a new first order finite element for multilayered/sandwich plates and shells. It’s based on a displacement variational model that we consider as discrete, insofar as we introduce kinematic and mechanical hypothesises in a discrete manner. This model, labelled DDM (Discrete Displacement Mindlin), leads to a finite element which is geometrically simple (4 node) and efficient, owing to the linearity of bending curvatures obtained from a quadratic approximation of the normal rotations to the plate mid-surface. The new element takes into account the transverse shear effects along thickness direction and gives thin plate results when the ratio L/h (Length/ thickness) becomes big. It has been successfully validated across some known testing problems, from thin to thick laminated and sandwich

Syftet med uppsatsen är att belysa och förstå invandrarelevers upplevelser av etnisk särskiljning som görs av lärare i skolan. Undersökningen har ett elevperspektiv. Frågeställningarna gäller hur eleverna upplever lärarnas förhållningssätt till deras etniska, religiösa, språkliga och kunskapsmässiga bakgrund samt vad det säger om i vilken utsträckning lärarna uppvisar ett resursperspektiv. Undersökningens metod är kvalitativ och datainsamlingen har skett genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med åtta elever. Det empiriska materialet har analyserats utifrån de två teoretiska begreppen etnicitet och makt. Vidare har materialet relaterats till tidigare forskning om etnisk kategorisering och maktrelationer i skolan, samt styrdokumentens värdegrundsfrågor. Resultatet visar att eleverna upplever sig som särbehandlade av sina lärare pågrund av sin etniska och religiösa bakgrund, vilket tyder på att etnisk särskiljning görs. Särskiljningen visar sig genom att lärarna har specifika, ofta låga, förväntningar, att de ignorerar elevernas tidigare kunskaper och behov och på andra sätt behandlar dem orättvist. Vidare indikerar resultatet att lärarna saknar resursperspektiv eftersom de endast i begränsad omfattning synliggör och använder elevernas tidigare kunskaper i undervisningen.

La plupart des pièces revêtues utilisées dans le domaine de la transmission de puissance sont soumises à des sollicitations de chocs répétés. Lorsque ces pièces sont correctement dimensionnées, leur endommagement va être lié à des mécanismes de fatigue superificielle. Afin d'améliorer la durabilité de ces pièces, les dépôts de type PVD et PACVD semblent particulièrement adaptés. Malheureusement, ces dépôts ne peuvent actuellement pas être utilisés sur des composants dont le remplacement est plus délicat que les outils. Une compréhension des mécanismes d'endommagement rendra possible l'optimisation de la tenue en fatigue des revêtements. Dans le but de caractériser la tenue à la fatigue superficielle des couches minces et dures de type PVD, un banc d'essai d'impacts répétés a été mis au point. La possibilité de caractériser ces revêtements sous une sollicitation de chocs répétés est alors illustrée à travers une classification et des cartes de fatigue de dépôts de TiBN, de CrN etde DLC
The most of mechanical components used for transmission of movement are subjected to repeated impacts or cyclic loading. If these elements are well designed and materials well chosen, their endurance is linked to surface fatigue mechanisms. In order to improve the fatigue behaviour of these pieces, hard coatings, like PVD or PACVD coatings, seems to be appropriate. Unfortunately, nowadays, such hard coatings could not be used for elements whose replacement is more difficult than cutting tools. The comprehension of the failure mechanisms will make possible the optimisation of the fatigue behaviour of hard coatings. In order to study the surface fatigue behaviour of thin hard PVD coatings, a specific apparatus was developed to carry out repeated impacts with a broad range of energy. The possibility to chart the fatigue behaviour of different coatings is illustrated throw the example of TiBN, CrN, CrxNy and DLC coatings

Beim menschlichen Entscheidungsprozess ist das in der Veränderung der Natur des Wissens begründet. So kann der Mensch zwar versuchen, seine proximalen Terme offenzulegen, nur ist dann seine Fähigkeit zur Entscheidung in diesem Moment ausgesetzt, da die implizite Triade zerstört ist. Bei KI-Systemen ist die Erklärbarkeit oft aufgrund der gewählten Machine Learning Komponenten beeinträchtigt. Hinzu kommt, dass in einer Welt, in der zunehmend mehr Aufgaben durch KI-Systeme übernommen werden, die Gefahr besteht, dass das notwendige Verständnis für diese Aufgaben beim Menschen verloren geht.

Durch die identische Formulierung der Aussagen zu Islam und Muslim*innen und die daraus resultierende gleiche Stärke der Items lassen sich Zustimmungswerte zu islam- und muslim*innenfeindlichen Aussagen direkt miteinander vergleichen. Um Verzerrungen zu vermeiden, erfolgte die Zuordnung der Befragten zu den einzelnen Fragebogenversionen randomisiert.

Die Beobachtung ist, dass es im Umgang mit digitalen Technologien zu Erfahrungen des Unverfügbaren kommt, d.h. der Erfahrungsgehalt zeichnet sich wesentlich durch Unkontrollierbarkeit und Unsicherheit aus. Ursächlich dafür scheint u.a. die Intransparenz algorithmischer Datenverarbeitung zu sein sowie das eigene Nicht-Wissen darüber, was digitale Technologie eigentlich kann. Diese Beobachtung stellt Block zudem in einen gesellschaftstheoretischen Kontext, denn die Problematisierung von Mensch-Technik-Interaktionen als Erfahrungen des Unverfügbaren, ist nur sinnvoll, wenn man sie vor dem Hintergrund des (spät-)modernen Selbstverständnisses betrachtet, ein autonomes Selbst zu sein. Erst dadurch wird verständlich, warum der Umgang mit digitalen Technologien Erfahrungen des Unverfügbaren erzeugen kann.

A typical and may be the most prospective deep ocean mining system is an integration of a mining ship system, a hoist pipeline system and a self-propelled seafloor miner system. According to this representative system configuration, China has designed and developed a deep ocean mining pilot system. In order to evaluate and improve the design of the pilot system, and further to provide technical references for the practical system operation, dynamic simulation models of the subsystems and the total integrated system are developed. For the seafloor miner, a multi-body model with the scale of 1:1 to the actual size of the pilot miner is built, which can be used effectively to perform detailed design, analysis and optimization of the miner system. Meanwhile, to make the integration of the total mining system possible, a simplified 3D single-body model with 6 DOF of the miner is also developed, which is capable of real-time simulation and can be easily integrated with other subsystems. For the pipeline system including the rigid lifting pipe, submerged pump, buffer storage and flexible hose, finite element method (FEM) and discrete element method (DEM) are all proposed and developed. With the FEM model, the towing mining operation process, as well as the launching and retrieval process, can be analyzed. Whereas, the DEM model is preferred to perform the dynamic analysis of the total integrated mining system due to its relative high computation efficiency compared with that of the FEM model. To realize the dynamic analysis of the total integrated mining system with relative high efficiency and accuracy, the single body model of the miner and the DEM model of the pipeline are chosen to be integrated to form the total system and perform dynamic analysis, which in a way can provide specific guidance and suggestions for the practical deep ocean mining system analysis, operation and control. For further researches, more attention will be focused on the analysis of the launching and retrieval operation process of the total mining system, including the water entry of the miner, the launching process of the pipeline system and the final seafloor-touchdown of the miner.

The U.S Department of Energy’s (DOE) Next Generation Nuclear Plant (NGNP) has three goals in its mission: deliver (1) electricity, (2) process steam and heat, and (3) generate hydrogen to support a hydrogen economy. DOE selected the high-temperature, helium-cooled graphite (moderated) reactor (HTGR) technology for its fundamental design. However, the NGNP faces many challenging design, licensing and cost hurdles. With huge risks and its associated expenses, the NGNP — a completely new reactor technology — requires an open-minded understanding, consideration and application of earlier HTGR design features. This paper suggests reconsidering some HTGR features in an updated Generation IV HTGR as a design alternative.

Abstract Additive manufacturing (AM) processes present designers with unique capabilities while imposing several process limitations. Designers must leverage the capabilities of AM — through opportunistic design for AM (DfAM) — and accommodate AM limitations — through restrictive DfAM — to successfully employ AM in engineering design. These opportunistic and restrictive DfAM techniques starkly contrast the traditional, limitation-based design for manufacturing techniques — the current standard for design for manufacturing (DfM). Therefore, designers must transition from a restrictive DfM mindset towards a ‘dual’ design mindset — using opportunistic and restrictive DfAM concepts. Designers’ prior experience, especially with a partial set of DfM and DfAM techniques could inhibit their ability to transition towards a dual DfAM approach. On the other hand, experienced designers’ auxiliary skills (e.g., with computer-aided design) could help them successfully use DfAM in their solutions. Researchers have investigated the influence of prior experience on designers’ use of DfAM tools in design; however, a majority of this work focuses on early-stage ideation. Little research has studied the influence of prior experience on designers’ DfAM use in the later design stages, especially in formal DfAM educational interventions, and we aim to explore this research gap. From our results, we see that experienced designers report higher baseline self-efficacy with restrictive DfAM but not with opportunistic DfAM. We also see that experienced designers demonstrate a greater use of certain DfAM concepts (e.g., part and assembly complexity) in their designs. These findings suggest that introducing designers to opportunistic DfAM early could help develop a dual design mindset; however, having more engineering experience might be necessary for them to implement this knowledge into their designs.

Abstract The motions of ice floes in linear waves were simulated by coupling Discrete Element Method (DEM) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The interactions between ice floes are investigated by DEM. The hydrodynamics of ice floes, mainly including the drag force and the buoyancy, are calculated by CFD. In the simulation, the ice floes are treated as discrete elements, and the contact forces between ice floes are determined by the Hertz-Mindlin (no-slip) contact model. The shape of ice floes is an approximate square composed of a number of spherical faces, which can reduce the computation cost. The waves are treated as First Order Airy wave, which is linear in nature and applied to small amplitude waves in shallow liquid depth ranges. The volume of fluid (VOF) method was adopted to capture the free surface. The simulation results are in agreement with the actual situation to a certain extent.

ABSTRACT Sandia National Laboratories has conducted geomechanical analysis to evaluate the performance of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve by modeling the viscoplastic, or creep, behavior of the salt in which their oil-storage caverns reside. The operation-driven imbalance between fluid pressure within the salt cavern and in-situ stress acting on the surrounding salt can cause the salt to creep, potentially leading to a loss of the cavern volume and consequently deformation of borehole casings. Therefore, a greater understanding of salt creep's behavior on borehole casing needs to be addressed to drive cavern operations decisions. To evaluate potential casing damage mechanisms with variation in geological constraints (e.g. material characteristics of salt or caprock) or physical mechanisms of cavern leakage, we developed a generic model with a layered and domal geometry including nine caverns, rather than use a specific field-site model, to save computational costs. The geomechanical outputs, such as cavern volume changes, vertical strain along the dome and caprock above the cavern and vertical displacement at the surface or cavern top, quantifies the impact of material parameters and cavern locations as well as multiple operations in multiple caverns on an individual cavern stability. INTRODUCTION The US Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), operated by the US Department of Energy (DOE), stores crude oil in solution-mined caverns in the salt dome formations of the Gulf Coast. There are a total of 60 storage caverns distributed across four different sites in Texas (Bryan Mound and Big Hill) and Louisiana (Bayou Choctaw and West Hackberry), along with several abandoned or decommissioned caverns. Each cavern is constructed and then operated through a nested series of wellbore steel casings, each cemented from the surface to near the top of the cavern. Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) has served as the geotechnical advisor on the SPR to DOE since 1979. As part of that responsibility, SNL has long used computational geomechanical models to analyze the viscoplastic, or creep, behavior of the salt in which the oil storage caverns reside. Salt creep causes storage caverns to deform inward, thus losing volume. This loss of volume affects the salt above and around the caverns, puts stresses and strains on borehole casings, and creates surface subsidence which affects surface infrastructure. Therefore, accurate evaluation of salt creep behavior drives decisions about cavern operations.

Abstract:
The climate crisis presents an unprecedented global challenge, which can also be an opportunity for Commonwealth ministers of education to demonstrate what science-driven, justice-centred, and civic-minded climate leadership can do to help put small island developing states and climate-vulnerable countries on a path to climate resilience and climate justice. This report provides a road map for how ministers of education can climate-proof education systems, implement a green learning agenda that builds skills for blue and green economies, and promote education for climate action through policy development, resource allocation and effective implementation. The recommendations also focus on the important issues of quality, equity and justice.
