Abstract:
The study presents a review of in-service models and a search for an effective in-service model for mathematics education in the primary school. The study considers the need to improve the teaching of mathematics in the primary school; the major reports that have made recommendations for the improvement of primary mathematics teaching and the opinions and findings of mathematics educators. The study examines the state of the art of in-service models and examines those models previously used. The study notes the failings of the in-service models past and present and examines elements within these models which have proven to be beneficial albeit in part. Throughout the study particular attention is given to recent studies concerned with implementing and sustaining change. The model designed for the in-service of the primary mathematics teacher, MINC (Mathematics In-service Network Course) is based on an examination of models past and present. Components and provisions that have met with success in these models were included in the design. The in-service model developed and described in this study includes four major components input from course leaders and teachers, reflection, feedback and the opportunity for teachers to work with others from the same school and neighbouring schools (networking). A major section of the study examines the responses of participants to an evaluation questionnaire given at the completion of the first in-service course, MINC 1 and the second, MINC 2. Data collected from the responses of participants to the questionnaire were analysed to see if there were differences in responses from teachers based on such factors as sex, the MINC network, the level to which participants had studied mathematics, the year level they taught and expressed confidence in teaching mathematics. In conclusion, the study reflects on the evaluation of the in-service course and addresses considerations for future in-service courses concerned with mathematics education for primary teachers.

O modelo gerado representou bem a distribuição destas propriedades no espaço.
This work presents a methodology to develop geological and geomechanic models (3D) and to carry out stability analyses (2D) of rock slopes of open pit mine, based on data of Morro da Mina mine, provided by the mining company VALE. The methodology is divided in two stages: modelling and stability analyses. For the modelling, the software Petrel 2004, which allows the use of geostatistical tools, was used, being possible the spatial distribution of geotechnical information, obtained from borehole cores, for the whole rock mass. The technique of Ordinary Kriging was used. The modeled properties were the following: c`, fi, RQD, Q e RMR. The generated model represented well the spatial distribution of these properties. The stability analyses were carried out using 2D sections and the necessary rock mass parameters were obtained from the geomechanical model. Two types of analyses were carried out: kinematic analyses, with use of the software Dips, from Rocscience, and limit equilibrium analyses of the global slopes and the benches, where the software Slide 5.0, also from Rocscience was used. The Kinematic analyses, carried out considering two sets of joint orientations, suggested that the benches have to receive enough attention in this mine, and the limit equilibrium analyses for circular failure of the benches and global slopes indicated high factors of safety. However, before this work initiating a failure already had happened in one of the sections analyzed. The programs RocData 4.0 and RocProp, both from Rocscience, were used to estimate the Mohr-Coulomb strength parameters, and the programs AutoCAD 2004 and Microsoft Office Excel helped at the development of the input files in the Petrel 2004 and Slide 5.0.

Costa, Selso Vieira. "Desenvolvimento e calibração de um mini-tanque evaporimétrico." Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, 2004. http://repositorio.ufsm.br/handle/1/7629.

Full text
Abstract:
The present work had as aim a development and calibration of a small evaporation pan comparing its evaporation with class A pan and its capability to estimate the reference evapotranspiration comparing it with the Penman-Monteith equation. This tool has the finality to facilitate the irrigation control, not being necessary to sample or to install equipment in the field, thus decreasing work and material acquisition costs. Also, is intention whit this apparatus to not loose data at rainy days as occurs with the standard one (class A pan), make easier its management and reach closest estimates to reference evapotranspiration calculate by standard equation (Penman-Monteith). The development had consisted in a comparison, with patterns, of different phases in witch had used different hem, drain and water level height. The calibration had done by the adjusting of the values of reference evapotranspiration done through pan coefficient determination (Kpsm) contrasting small pan evaporation with standard evapotranspiration. Obtained results show a no significant correlation between characteristic height and pan performing expressed by c coefficient in relation to evaporation and evapotranspiration. Considering the SM pan capacity in estimate the rain height, is possible to correlate its performing to hem rising. In height lines we can consider, as average, that comparing whit class A pan, to five days average, the performing account as good and to ten days average as very good according to CAMARGO & CENTELHAS (1997) classification. At the comparison between the SM pan and Penman-Monteith methods, also as average, can be consider to five days average a performing account classify as ordinary and for ten days average as good . In case of rainy estimative, the performing rises from ordinary to excellent with the skirt rising. The regression coefficients - a and b statically disagree from its patterns - zero and one as rain as evapotranspiration estimates, pointing the necessity of these values correction. Whether considered the relation between SM and class A pans, these coefficients do not disagree from one and zero to ten days average, however using five days averages, the linear coefficient became disagree from zero. To make this corrections, meanwhile, is necessary a bigger data period to have more confidence values. In short, to obtained data, the small pan was capable to estimate well the evaporation measured at class A pan and the occurred rain and reasonable the reference evapotranspiration in spite of correction necessity. More over can be concluded that characteristic heights do not influence at evaporation and evapotranpirations values, but it does at the rain. It is known, however, this data are partial and to infer definitely on this tool efficiency it is necessary lengthen the experiment for some years and had placed at other sites.

Abstract:
This thesis describes the results of field based research on the Konkola (Bancroft) underground copper mine groundwater flow problem, in Zambia. Konkola is one of the wettest mines in the world, pumping an average of 360,000 m^/d of water. To understand how groundwater flows into and through the mine and subsequently formulate a long-term cost-effective groundwater management solution, an integrated study of historical and current dewatering and mining records, structural geology, surface hydrology, rock chemistry and groundwater chemistry, was carried out. The results enabled the development of a numerical model, to be used to make groundwater discharge and water level drawdown predictions for future groundwater management decisions. The results obtained clearly reveal that; mine water can be divided into that which originates from surface recharge close to the mine and that which originates from regional aquifers at depth. This has enabled the origin of water in the mine to be essentially established. A considerable percentage of the water entering the mine comes via the Hangingwall Aquifer with its connection to the surface sources of recharge. Flow to the mine is dominated by flow through fractures and fissures which form zones of high conductivity. The flow in these zones can be modelled by finite difference networks. Significant reduction of water inflow into the mine can be achieved by implementing a water-exclusion groundwater management solution.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to assess the dewatering requirements of planned open pit nickel mining at Ç
aldag Site in Western Turkey. Dewatering is required for safe and efficient working conditions and pit wall stability. With this scope, a groundwater model of the study area is developed and used to predict the dewatering rate. The methodology mainly involves data collection, site hydrogeologic characterization and development of conceptual model, followed by construction and use of a groundwater model to predict the dewatering requirements of the mine site. The groundwater flow modeling is carried out using MODFLOW software and the dewatering simulations are carried out using MODFLOW Drain package. The drain cell configuration is determined by pit boundaries and invert elevations of drains corresponded to the bench elevations that will be achieved with respect to the mining schedule. In the transient model runs, monthly time steps were used. Using the outflow from in-pit drain cells, the v monthly dewatering rates are calculated. In order to assess the impacts of the hydraulic conductivity of the laterite on the pit inflow rates, simulations were carried out for different values of hydraulic conductivity of laterites. The predicted flow rate using the calibrated model is 107.54 L/s. A tenfold reduction in the hydraulic conductivity of laterite resulted in three fourths of decrease in the flow rate (24.42 L/s). Consequently, a wide range of flow rates for different hydraulic conductivity values of laterite was calculated. In order to confirm the hydraulic conductivity of laterites in the area, and to obtain a realistic dewatering rate, further pumping tests are needed.

Abstract:
Natropalermoite, ideally Na2SrAl4(PO4)(4)(OH)(4), the Na-analogue of palermoite, is a new mineral from the Palermo No. 1 mine, Groton, New Hampshire, USA. Associated minerals are palermoite, eosphorite and quartz. Natropalermoite crystals are prismatic with striations parallel to the direction of elongation (the a axis) up to 200 mu m x 50 mu m x 45 mu m in size. The mineral is colourless, transparent with a white streak and vitreous lustre and is visually indistinguishable from palermoite. It is brittle with subconchoidal fracture and has a Mohs hardness of 5.5. Cleavage is perfect on {001}, fair on {100} and no parting was observed. The calculated density is 3.502 g cm(-3). Natropalermoite is biaxial (-), alpha = 1.624(1), ss = 1.641(1), gamma = 1.643(1) (589 nm), 2V(meas) = 43(4)degrees, 2V(calc) = 38 degrees. An electronmicroprobe analysis yielded an empirical formula (based on 20 O apfu) of (Na1.69Li0.31)(Sigma 2.00) (Sr0.95Mg0.04C a(0.02)Ba(0.01))(Sigma 1.02) (Al3.82Mn0.03Fe0.03)(Sigma 3.88) (P1.01O4)(4)(OH)(4). Natropalermoite is orthorhombic, space group Imcb, a = 11.4849(6), b = 16.2490(7), c = 7.2927(4) angstrom, V = 1360.95(17) A(3), Z = 4. Natropalermoite is isotypic with palermoite, but substitution of the larger Na for Li results in substantial increase of the b cell parameter. Four of the seven Na-O distances are longer than their equivalents in palermoite, resulting in a more regular 7-fold coordination polyhedron about Na. The eight strongest peaks in the calculated X-ray powder diffraction are [d(calc) (angstrom), I-rel%, (hkl)]: [3.128, 100, (321)], [4.907, 68, (121)], [3.327, 48, (022)], [4.689, 45, (220)], [3.078, 45, (202)], [2.453, 38, (242)], [2.636, 35, (411)], [2.174, 35, (422)].

Abstract:
In this study, subsidence analyses were carried out for panels B14, B12, B10, B02, C12, C10, C08 of Ç
ayirhan Lignite Mine using in-situ subsidence measurements. Using the measurements from stations, installed both parallel and perpendicular to panel-advance direction, subsidence profiles were plotted as a function of time and distance from panel center. Horizontal displacement and strain curves were also plotted and compared with subsidence profiles. There are various methods used for subsidence prediction. In this study however, a subsidence model was developed based on empirical model obtained from nonlinear regression analysis. During the analyses SPSS (V.10.0) software was used and the unknown parameters associated with subsidence function were determined for the stations above B14 panel. Since it was too complicated to take all the affecting factors into consideration, only the parameters which could be estimated by statistical evaluation were taken into account during analyses. One significant contribution of this study to subsidence subject was the comparison of the subsidence values measured during this investigation with the values predicted by some other empirical methods. In this study, the structural damages to the pylons installed on ground surface above retreating longwall panels were also investigated by the use of previous studies. Slope as well as horizontal strain changes caused by ground movements due to underground mining were determined. Last but not least, it should be stated another significant contribution of this study to engineering was the collection of a significant database obtained from field measurements.

Abstract:
This thesis defends the idea that the mind is essentially computational, a position that has in recent decades come under attack by theories that focus on bodily action and that view the mind as a product of interaction with the world and not as a set of secluded processes in the brain. The most prominent of these is the contemporary criticism coming from enactivism, a theory that argues that cognition is born not from internal processes but from dynamic interactions between brain, body and world. The radical version of enactivism in particular seeks to reject the idea of representational content, a key part in the computational theory of mind. To this end I propose a Compatibilist Computational Theory of Mind. This compatibilist theory incorporates embodied and embedded elements of cognition and also supports a predictive theory of perception, while maintaining the core beliefs pertaining to brain-centric computationalism: That our cognition takes place in our brain, not in bonds between brain and world, and that cognition involves manipulation of mental representational content. While maintaining the position that a computational theory of mind is the best model we have for understanding how the mind works, this thesis also reviews the various flaws and problems that the position has had since its inception. Seeking to overcome these problems, as well as showing that computationalism is still perfectly compatible with contemporary action and prediction-based research in cognitive science, the thesis argues that by revising the theory in such a way that it can incorporate these new elements of cognition we arrive at a theory that is much stronger and more versatile than contemporary non-computational alternatives.

Abstract:
This thesis compares philosophers Ken Wilber (Integralism) and Leonard Peikoff (Objectivism), who argue that Western philosophy is saturated with a fallacious mind/body dichotomy, which they trace historically and psychologically. Wilber’s and Peikoff’s agendas, worldviews and starting points are contrasted, specifically, Wilber’s holons, Kosmos model, the Big Three Value Spheres and Peikoff’s metaphysical axioms. Their definitions of consciousness are reviewed, along with their mutual epistemological emphasis on knowledge as contextual. Wilber makes mystical validity claims supported by stages of cognitive development. Discussed attributes of the mind/body dualism are: regression and repression; control versus chaos; hedonism, uniformity and authoritarianism; Subjectivism and Intrinsicism; Ego-agency versus Eco-communion. Both philosophers maintain that each partial strategy collapses into the dysfunctions of the opposite strategy. Their respective models of resolution through integration are presented in conclusion, particularly Wilber’s case for nondual Self-realization.

Abstract:
In this thesis, studies associated with the stability analyses of the box-shaped dump-site culvert constructed in Tinaz Surface Mine of Turkish Coal Enterprises (TKi) are presented. In addition, stability conditions of other culvert alternatives are evaluated. Existence of creeks in a surface mining area is a significant factor to be considered in selection of dump-site location. Since, the dumped overburden material on the valley acts as a barrier and behaves like a dam causing flood problem behind the dump-site. TKi engineers prevented the flood potential that might have occurred behind the dump-site by constructing a 480-meter long reinforced-concrete culvert on the downstream of Gevenez Creek Valley. However, considerable amount of deformations occurred in the first 100 meters of the culvert, as a result of overburden material being replaced on this structure. In order to determine the failure mechanism associated with the culvert, a series of numerical modeling analyses were carried out utilizing back analysis technique. The validity of the numerical model was justified by convergence measurements and observations carried out inside the culvert as overburden material being replaced on the stable part of this structure. Finally, based on the numerical model developed, the stability of other culvert alternatives that could be used in future projects were evaluated considering different embankment conditions (positive projecting and negative projecting), bedding conditions (impermissible, ordinary, first-class and concrete cradle), culvert shapes (box and circular) and dumping conditions.

Despite great technological advances in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery, there is a high incidence of cardiac dysfunction and neurocognitive deficits in the postoperative period. Preventive measures are essential to reducing these adverse situations that are responsible for significant morbidity and impairment on life quality of these patients. Surgery and cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) produces important changes in the immune system, directly involved in the incidence of these complications and is credible that anesthesia choice can it modified. We hypothezised that dexmedetomidine, an (α)-2-agonist, could the inflammatory response to CABG and CPB modified. In a prospective and randomized study, we intend to demonstrate the influence of dexmedetomidine (TIVA-DEX group), as a component of a conventional total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA-propofol+sufentanil) in patients undergoing CABG, with mini-CPB, on the behavior of this inflammatory response. The TIVA-DEX group received a continuous infusion of dexmedetomidine associated to a conventional venous anesthesia (continuous infusion of propofol+sufentanil). Intraoperative dosage of cytokines, such as interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-10 (IL-10), gamma interferon (INF-γ) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) were performed, and also C-reactive protein (CRP), creatine phosphokinase (CPK), creatine phosphokinase-MB (CPK-MB), I troponin (cTnI), cortisol and glucose. The occurrence of lipid peroxidation, by the study of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) and the activity of delta-aminolevulinate dehydratase (δ-ALA-D) to oxidative stress verify were also avaliated. Dexmedetomidine induce a significative reduction of IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α and INF-γ, as compared to group that not receive dexmedetomidine. The levels of IL-10 were decreased in both groups along the time, at a similar pattern. Differences between groups on δ-ALA-D activity do not occur and TBARS was higher in TIVA-DEX group. We concluded that dexmedetomidine associated to TIVA was able to reduce plasma levels of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1, IL-6, TNF-α and INF-γ in patients submitted to CABG surgery under mini-CPB, as compared to a conventional TIVA. These results reinforce literature data about dexmedetomidine potentiality as an anti inflammatory agent.

In current geotechnical practice, slope stability assessments are usually carried out only based on deterministic methods, obtaining a value of Safety Factor (FS). These analyses are simplified because the FS values do not consider the natural variability of soils and rocks. Disregarding the uncertainties inherent to geotechnical parameters may lead to unreliable results of slope safety. Probabilistic analyses, based on statistical concepts, have become more frequent in geotechnical practice, as they allow incorporating the materials intrinsic variability. These analyses are based on statistical elements that allow treating the FS as a function and studying its properties. The probabilistic methods indicate the reliability index (beta) and the probability of failure (Pr) of the verified geotechnical structure. This work presents deterministic and probabilistic analyses of a 200m high slope at the Cauê Mine, located in Itabira, Minas Gerais, Brazil, with basis on five usual deterministic methods and three probabilistic techniques (FOSM, Point Estimates and Monte Carlo). The results indicate that fixing the critical deterministic surface generally gives values of beta and Pr similar to those achieved when the surface is free to vary. It was also concluded that, with a fixed critical surface, beta and Pr results change significantly, when different Limit Equilibrium methods are adopted. It is recommended to use probabilistic FOSM analysis with Morgenstern and Price stability method in analyses similar to the one presented herein.

Abstract:
Almgren-Pitts min-max theory considers the space of integral currents on a manifold with the associated mass functional. Minimal hypersurfaces arise as the critical points of the mass functional, and so can be constructed using min-max techniques applied to certain families of integral currents. A particular set of families is the Gromov-Guth p-sweepouts. The min-max masses associated with these families are the p-widths. This thesis calculates several p-widths for p <= 13 in the case of the round three-sphere by explicit construction of p-sweepouts and Lusternik-Schnirelmann topological arguments. It follows from recent developments in min-max theory that there is a minimal surface with genus > 1, index <= 9 and area equal to the 9-width.

Abstract:
Quantifying the geometries of evaporite deposits at a <1 km scale is critical in our understanding of similar ancient depositional systems, but is challenging given evaporite mineral dissolution at surface conditions. Two high-resolution stratigraphic studies in mines provide insight into the geometries, dimensions, and spatial distributions of sedimentary bodies in 3-D at a <1-km scale in evaporites. A field mapping study was conducted in Brightling (Purbeck Group) and Boulby (Zechstein Group) mines, in southeast and northeast England, respectively. This is integrated with XRD, petrography, and δ13C and δ18O isotope analyses. The evolution and conditions of sedimentation during the Tithonian in the Weald Basin is also evaluated. A newly defined megasequence boundary at the base of the Purbeck Group is suggested to mark the onset of rifting of the Bay of Biscay and to the north of the Charlie-Gibbs Fracture Zone, which implies an earlier rifting phase than previously proposed. Basal Purbeck lateral facies changes are influenced by the position in the Weald Basin, normal fault systems, and relative sea level changes. In Brightling Mine, the basal Purbeck exhibits carbonate-evaporite shoaling upward cycles, likely controlled by localized high-frequency relative sea level changes and/or sabkha hydrology. The dynamic process of evaporite deposition led to subtle stratigraphic heterogeneities and changes in bed thicknesses, but largely continuous lateral bedding. Boulby Mine offers a unique opportunity to study early deformation structures in ancient polyhalite that formed in playa conditions. The controlling mechanism that formed these syndepositional polyhalite tepees is attributed to soft sediment deformation via polyhalite dewatering coupled with penecontemporaneous precipitation of halite during fluid escape. This study offers new insight into the types of heterogeneity observed in ancient evaporites formed in marginal playa and sabkha environments at a < 1 km-scale, which can include a variety of compositions and morphologies at a range of scales.

Abstract:
Orthodontists have been reusing mini-implants that fail after installation or that will be inserted in a new place due to mechanic needs in order to optimize clinical time. The aim of this study was to simulate the reuse of mini-implants up to three times and evaluate their potential weakness. We used 48 screws (Morelli, Sorocaba, Brazil), which were divided into four groups: C= Control, G1 = one reuse, G2 = two reuse, G3 = three reuse. In order to simulate inserts in patients mouths, we used pig iliac bone. After we insert screws on bone specimen, we removed, cleaned, and sterilized them by autoclaving. The guide at the machine we used allowed us to standardize installations. After all groups were submitted to their reuse periods, mini-implants were submitted to fracture, and the strongest force necessary to break them was measured by a digital axial torquemeter. We used bovine tibia specimens for fracture, because of its greater bone cortical and bone density. We used One Way ANOVA (Bonferroni post-hoc) to compare means of each group. Results showed differences statistically significant between G3 and the other groups. All mini-implants needed strength higher than recommended by the literature to be inserted into patients, even though we found differences in fracture resistance between groups.

Abstract:
This thesis analyses the method, purpose, and results of Aristotle's treatment of a select number of Presocratic and Platonic theses about the soul within the context of De Anima 1. Contrary to a prevalent interpretation of De Anima 1 which sees Aristotle's treatment of his predecessors' psychological views as dialectical, I argue that Aristotle treats his predecessors as having offered potentially viable hypotheses about the nature of the soul, and that these hypotheses are treated as attempts to explain the soul's basic powers. I further show that, in order to test the explanatory limits of these theories, Aristotle uses a version of the scientific method of inquiry advertised in the Prior and Posterior Analytics, which consists in setting out the basic psychological phenomena which psychology should explain, and then testing the extent to which his predecessors' definitions of the soul are able to accomplish this task. This thesis argues that, by demonstrating where his predecessors' first principles fall short, Aristotle is able to make theoretical progress towards establishing his own 'hylomorphic' first principle of soul, that soul is the 'first fulfilment of a natural instrumental body', and towards the idea that soul operates in the body of living beings as a formal, final, and efficient cause.

Abstract:
This thesis consists of a mathematical model, autopilot and guidance design of a mini ROV (Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle) and investigates the effects of environmental forces (ocean currents etc.) on the guidance algorithms. First of all, a non-linear 6 degrees-of-freedom (DOF) mathematical model is obtained. This model includes hydrodynamics forces and moments. There is no exact calculation method for hydrodynamic coefficients
however strip theory and results of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis are used to calculate their approximate values. Linear mathematical model is obtained by linearization at trim points and it is used when designing surge speed, heading and depth controller. Guidance is examined by two methods such as way point guidance by line-of-sight (LOS) and way point guidance based on optimal control. Moreover, an online obstacle avoidance algorithm is developed. This thesis ends with the subject of navigation of the vehicle under GPS-like measurements and magnetic sensors measurements.

Abstract:
The most native fruit trees are belonging to Myrtaceae family, which it have as main marketing potential their fruit. Despite the wide acceptance of the fruits of these native fruit cultura, the establishment of commercial orchards is still necessary, because if it prevails extraction in the forest. To start the cultivo in the orchard, the first point is on the mother plant choice, which should provide superior characteristics when compared to other genotypes. Then, it is necessary to choose the method to can produce satisfactory amount of seedlings and preferably without it to lose the mother plant characteristics. For this, it adopts the asexual thechniques, with option for grafting, cuttings and air layering. These techniques when tested with native fruits tree, it proved limiting in theses results, with this, it should to test other it to recommend its use, especially, those fruit native of higher potential as jabuticaba tree, pitanga tree, sete capote tree and araça amarelo tree. The aim of this study was to test the use of asexual propagation through mini-cuttings in these native fruit trees, according to the time of collection, the mini-cutting length and concentration of IBA, as well as, it to relate the results of rooting with tryptophan extracted at certain times. The work was carried out at Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná – Câmpus Dois Vizinhos, Brazil. The samples were collected each two months. The mini-cutting were prepared with 6 or 8 cm, with a pair of leaves reduced to 25% of the original size. The mini-cuttings had their base immersed in liquid solution of indole-butyric acid (IBA) in the concentrations of 0, 3000 and 6000 mg L-1 and then were placed in tubes containing commercial substrate. The experimental design was completely randomized with factorial 2 x 3 x 6 (mini-cutting length x IBA concentration x time of collection), with four replications, it being each plot varied according to the amount of shoots obtained by period time. After 120 days, the rooting and callus formation (%), average number of roots per mini-cutting and the average length of the roots were evaluated. After 60 days of these evaluations, the survival of mini-cuttings rooted after transplant was evaluated. It was evaluated also the production of mini-cuttings of each size in each period time. At the end of the experiment it was evaluated the percentage of survival of mother plantlets. For analysis of tryptophan was used materials branches, leaves and twigs with leaves, taken from the materials used for the production of mini-cutting. It was recommended for hybrid jabuticaba tree the use mini-cutting with eight cm, treated with 6000 mg L-1 of IBA and collected in June. For jabuticaba tree of cabinho and araça amarelo tree the period for propagation by mini-cuttings should be in August, regardless of IBA concentration and length of the mini-cutting. In the jabuticaba tree sabara and sete capote tree is important to obtain more satisfactory results realized the collect in October or December, with the same independence of other levels tested in other factors. However, for sete capote tree should test other techniques to increase the efficiency of propagation. And with pitanga tree recommended to the collection in June, but with 6cm the application of 3000 mg L-1 of IBA and 8 cm with 6000 mg L-1 of IBA.

Abstract:
Tomatoes are among the most cultivated and used vegetables in the world. They are very succeptible to post harvest losses due to high perishability, therefore the use of postharvest treatments may contribute to conservation of this fruit, however the treatments might affect significantly physico-chemical, sensory and nutritional characteristics of tomatoes. Given the perishability of tomato and the economic importance of small tomato fruits, the purpose of the present study was to determine the effect of gamma radiation, carnauba coating and 1-MCP treatments on tomato fruit quality during storage. The study may be divided into two parts. In the first, mini tomatoes cv. Sweet Grape were harvested at breaker stage, divided into 4 grous and treated with gamma radiation (0.6 kGy), carnauba coating (1 L 1000 kg-1) and 1-MCP (500 nL L-1) and then stored at 25±2°C for 30 days with a control group of tomatoes. In the seconnd part, tomatoes harvested at light-red stage were submitted to the same treatments and storage period. Every 6 days tomatoes were evaluated for color modifications, fruit firmness, souble and total pectin (only for light-red tomatoes), mass loss, titratable acidity (TA), soluble solids (SS), SS/TA ratio, carotenoids profile, formation of lycopene isomers, total phenolic compounds, ascorbic acid and antioxidant capacity. For tomatoes harvested at breaker stage and submitted to the treatments the results showed mass loss was delaying mainly by carnauba wax, and to a lesser extend by 1-MCP. Fruit firmness were better retained for 1-MCP treated fruits and carnauba treatment showed a transient effect in preserving fruit firmness. SS/TA of tomatoes treated with gamma radiation and carnauba presented no differences from control values, and were lower with the application of 1-MCP. Color was negatively affected by 1-MCP and earlier changed (6th day) when gamma radiation was applied. In relation to bioactive compounds of tomatoes harvest at breaker stage, results indicated gamma radiation and 1-MCP decreased the final content of lycopene and produced more (Z)-isomers of lycopene. Gamma radiation also induced a decreased in ?-carotene and an increased in phenolic compounds by the end of storage period. 1-MCP treatment promoted a slow down increase in ascorbic acid content during storage. Antioxidant capacity of the hydrophilic fraction was not dramatically affected by treatments and the lipophilic fraction was lower, especially for 1-MCP fruits. In addition, contents of ?-carotene, lycopene, (Z)-isomers of lycopene, ascorbic acid and antioxidant capacity increased during the period of storage while contents of lutein and phenolic compounds tended to decrease. Regarding tomatoes harvest at light-red stage, the most effective treatments for delaying fruit firmness and mass loss was carnauba and 1-MCP, while gamma radiation was the treatment with higher mass loss and the less fruit firmness, which could be associated with the higher solubilization of pectins promoted by radiation treatment. Color (L* and Hue) was mainly affected by 1-MCP treatment which delayed color development, however, by the end of storage, the values were not different from the other treatments. SS/TA ratio was lower for fruits treated with 1-MCP and TA was not so dramatically affected by treatments. Furthermore, mini tomatoes harvested at light-red stage, demonstrated irradiation induced changes in the final content of lycopene, increasing it, and formed less (13Z)-lycopene, while 1-MCP and carnauba coating slow down the increase in lycopene and slown down the decrease of ascorbic acid and phenolic compounds. Antioxidant capacity of lipophilic fraction was not affected by treatments and the hydrophilic fraction was lower for irradiated fruits only on day 0 as well as phenolic compounds. In the other days, no differences among treatments were observed for hydrophilic antioxidant capacity. Considering the results, the best combination of SS and TA and fruit preservation for mini tomatoes harvest at breaker stage was promoted by carnauba coating, which seems to be the treatment that causes fewer changes in bioactive compounds of breaker tomatoes. However, when mini tomatoes were harvested at light-red stage, SS/TA ratio and color were better and, to preserve the quality of these fruits, besides carnauba coating, 1-MCP also could be indicated

Abstract:
The award-winning Norwegian novelist Karl Ove Knausgård achieved great success with his latest book, Min kamp. Both commercially and critically, the novel was praised for its seemingly successful attempt to transcend the boundary between fiction and real life. Focusing on the auto-fictional narrator’s struggle to balance his daily life with his ever so demanding aesthetic ambitions, the novel gives high-detail descriptions of the most basic day-to-day chores, intimately mixed with philosophical reflections on topics such as painting, literature and postmodern civilisation. This essay proposes an alternative perspective on the realism of the novel. Instead of relying on a correspondence theoretical view, which highlights the level of correspondence of a particular representation with reality, I seek, inspired by Martin Heidegger’s thoughts on works of art, to trace a poetics which sees the verity in a work of art as the ”unconcealment” of the world, or the coming-to-being of objects. The function of art in relation to reality is to ”open up” the conventionally understood world and offer a perspective situated between an intellect-based outlook on the world and an intuitive and subconscious one. In order to carefully analyse the formal manifestation of the poetics in question, I turn to the notion of heteromediality, which proves fruitful in distinguishing, in the verbal text itself, certain formal traits usually associated with other media. I suggest that when found in the text, these traits function as a way of stressing the becoming of objects, rather than primarily their mere existence.

Abstract:
Mini unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) have high significance among other UAV'
s, in different categories, due to their ease of production, flexibility of maintenance, decrease in weight due to the elimination of landing gear system and simplicity of use. They are usually built to meet '
hand launching'
and '
belly landing'
criteria in order to have easy flight and easy landing features. Due to the hand take-off and belly landing features there is no need to have a runway and this feature is a very significant advantage in operational use. In an operation, belly landing mini UAV'
s may encounter tough landing areas like gravel, concrete or hard soil. Such landing areas may create landing loads which are impulsive in character. The effect of the landing loads on the airframe of the mini unmanned air vehicle must be completely understood and the mini UAV be designed accordingly in order not to damage the mini UAV during belly landing. Typical impact speeds during belly landing is relatively low (<
10 m/s) and in general belly landing phenomenon can be treated as low velocity impact. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact loads on the composite substructures of a mini UAV due to the belly landing. '

ventü
rk'
Mini UAV which is designed and built in METU Aerospace Engineering Department, is used as the analysis platform. This study is limited to the calculation of stresses and deformation that is caused by the low velocity impact forces encountered during belly landing. The main purpose of this work is to help the designer in making design decisions for a mini UAV that is tolerable to low velocity impact loads. Initial part of the thesis includes analytical treatment of low velocity impact phenomenon. In the simplified analytical approach the loading is assumed as quasistatic and comparisons of such a simplified method of analysis is made with explicit finite element solutions on isotropic and composite plate structures to investigate the applicability of simplified analytical method of analysis. Belly landing analyses of the mini UAV are done by MSC.Dytran, which is an explicit finite element solver. Model building and post processing are done via MSC.Patran. Stress and deformation response of the mini UAV is investigated by performing low velocity impact analysis using sub-structure built-up approach.

Abstract:
Dealing with the problem between user related knowledge and design, the present thesis underlines the guiding role of designer&rsquo
s user concept as a concept in problem structuring, by framing his/her understanding about user and influencing knowledge use and solution generation. Considering limitations of prevailing user concept in the architectural design studio, underlying problems are detected with reference to knowledge and design contexts, which have critical influence on the formation of user concept, particularly on its capacity to cover qualities of user and its relation with design. Defined narrow content of knowledge context and the detachment between design and knowledge contexts constitute the problematic basis of limited user concept and indicate a need for a shift in student&rsquo
s user understanding. The thesis aims to provide a conceptual framework to define required change referring underlined contexts. The broadening of knowledge context is defined addressing unifying perspective of Universal Design, with its emphasis on diversity, user experience, and knowing user by experience. With reference to the notion of designerly ways of knowing, required constructive relation between knowledge and design contexts is reconceptualized as designerly way of knowing user and defined as user related knowledge generation as part of problem structuring and design concept generation through this knowledge base. The potentials of proposed framework are exemplified by an architectural design studio experience. The analysis shows that when student&rsquo
s user learning is organized within student&rsquo
s actual user investigation as part of problem structuring, it is possible for students to acquire needs and expectations of diverse users and translate them to solutions from user perspective generating user related design concepts. Therefore, proposed conceptual base promises to improve user concept of student not only to involve experiences of diverse users, but also to be designerly.

Abstract:
This study has the objective of investigating the performance of adults and seniors in terms of working memory skills and at the Mini-Exam of Mental State, verifying how these skills relate to each other, to the age and to the scholarship level. The sample was composed by 34 people, with ages among 37 and 83 years-old, Brazilians, Portuguese speakers, literate and without any evident and referred neurological and/or cognitive alterations and it was shared into four groups according to the age group. The adults and seniors performance at the working memory assessments was checked through the repetition of non-words task to assess specifically the phonological memory and the repetition of a sequence of digits to assess the central executive and the phonological memory, according to Baddeley and Hitch s proposal (1974 apud GATHERCOLE & BADDELEY, 1993). The Mini-Mental State Examination, Folstein and McHugh s proposal (1975), was used to assess the orientation, immediate memory, attention, calculation, mandate, language, reading and constructive praxis. In order to analyze the co-relation among the evaluations it was used the non parametric test, the Sperarman s Correlation Coefficient, from which it was identified: 1) the younger people had a better performance at the three tasks applied when compared with the older ones; 2) there was a significant correlation between the repetition of non-words and repetition of a sequence of digits tasks; 3) the Mini-Mental State Examination has a small correlation with the memory working tasks; 4) it was observed significant correlation of age and scholarship with the tasks of repetition of non-word, repetition of a sequence of digit and Mini-Mental State Examination. Comparing the four groups, it was verified that the rightness average at the three assessmests diminished as much as the age group increased. It was observed that the rightness averages at the working memory and Mini- Mental State Examination tasks increased according to the scholarship level. It concluded that older people with low scholarship level, considered as a group not individually, present smaller performance at the working memory and Mini-Mental State Examination tasks than younger people and with higher scholarship level

The history of interpretation of the phrase nous Christou, which Paul employs in 1 Cor 2:16, mainly focuses on tracing the Hellenistic influence on his writings. No doubt, the Greek language Paul employs in explaining the gospel and the dominant culture of his world make this scholarly proclivity a credible one. But Paul, being a faithful Jew and a creative writer, is capable of appealing to his rich and diverse religious heritage, and his literary ingenuity to communicate his message. This angle of interpretation is seldom explored in discussing the nous Christou

Henricson, Cecilia. "Cognitive capacities and composite cognitive skills in individuals with Usher syndrome type 1 and 2."

Full text
Abstract:
The present thesis belongs to the research area disability research and deal with specific aspects of cognition in individuals with Usher syndrome type 1 and 2. The subject has been investigated and is discussed within an interdisciplinary framework, though the theories applied and described are derived from the area of cognitive psychology. Usher syndrome is a rare genetic condition causing a combination of visual and hearing impairment: deafblindness. There is a congenital hearing loss that is profound in type 1 and moderate to severe in type 2. During mid-childhood symptoms of visual impairment, e.g. light sensitivity, emerge and a progressive loss of visual field follows as a result of the genetically caused eye disease Retinitis Pigmentosa. The syndrome has previously been well described with respect to the genetical and medical aspects, but there has been very little research with a cognitive perspective on the population. Studies 1 and 2 in the present thesis focused on children with Usher syndrome type 1 with cochlear implants and investigated phonological skills, lexical access, working memory and reading skill in the group. Studies 3 & 4 investigated the same cognitive abilities and theory of mind in adults with Usher syndrome type 2. In study 4 the performance on theory of mind in the adults with Usher syndrome type 2 was also compared to that of another group with genetically caused deafblindness: individuals with Alström syndrome. The results were that both the children and adults with Usher syndrome had significantly poorer phonological processing than the control groups with normal hearing. There was a large variation on performance on lexical access, especially in the group of children, however several individuals performed at the same level as the control group. Reading skill was found to be at level with the control groups’. There was also great variation in performance on ToM, however the majority of individuals performed similar to the control group with normal hearing and vision. The present project has resulted in some new knowledge on cognitive performance in  individuals with Usher syndrome type 1 and type 2. Performance in the participants with Usher syndrome can to a large extent can be understood by application of the models developed in previous research on populations with hearing impairment or deafness for understanding the impact of hearing with a hearing aid or cochlear implant. However, individuals with Usher syndrome experience additional difficulties in accessing information due to the progressive visual loss and the impact this has on performance is still largely unknown. Hence, the present project would recommend that interventions and support would be designed specifically to each individuals’ needs, with consideration of both the visual impairment and the hearing impairment.

Abstract:
OECD 2015b).
