Abstract:
The paper presents the letters of Dr Milan Dimitrijević and his family, kept in the Archives of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, in the legacy of Patriarch German Anđelić (1822-1888). Milan Dimitrijević (1844-1901) was a teacher in the Grammar School in Sremski Karlovci and a reliable associate of Patriarch German. This correspondence reveals the biographies of Dimitrijević and his wife, and also offers a new insight into the political scene in Hungary of the 1880s and 1890s.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This article deals with the effects of COVID-19 on the urban governance of Milan. The author argues that, despite the changeable situation still ongoing, looking at the measures assumed in 2020, the Municipality of Milan took middle-term strategies and radical decisions for the design and the use of the city from a perspective of sustainable prosperity together with the pandemic management. According to the "Milano 2020" Adaptation Strategy, several policies were adopted in order to decongest public areas through the enlargement of spaces and services. In particular, during that period, the administration planned new policies in order to empower urban flexibility, rhythms and times, diversified mobility, public and green spaces, infrastructures, cooperation, and inclusion. In conclusion, the author argues that the pandemic has redefined the urban prosperity of Milan in relation to the sustainable transition and the new social challenges determined by the global scenario.

Abstract:
We present a first attempt to analyse the effect of a large urban park (Parco Nord Milano—PNM) on the Urban Heat Island (UHI) of the city area of Milan. Specifically, analysis of the effect of three cyclonic and three anticyclonic circulation weather types (CWTs) on the frequency distribution of the daily thermal range (DTR) of five weather stations in Milan shows the stabilizing effect of the city on the DTR when compared with suburban and rural areas, generating a modal class of 4 °C in winter and 9 °C in summer. In parallel, a temperature transect of the urban park Parco Nord Milano was performed by bicycle during a day of anticyclonic summer weather in order to understand the effect of the park on the UHI. This investigation highlighted the homogenization effect on temperatures induced by the thermal turbulence triggered by intense sunshine.

Abstract:
The subject of this thesis is the brief encounter between a 2000 year old city and a revolutionary movement personified by a young conqueror. There are 15 chapters and 4 annexes, the last of which gives a detailed description of Milan, district by district and street by street around 1800. Despite a number of enlightened reforms during the second half of the 18th century, Milan was not ready in 1796 for economic and social revolution. Napoleon Bonaparte made it the political capital of a state of more than 6 million inhabitants and it was to have a profound influence on public opinion, on administrative institutions and on town and country planning. But while the former land-owning aristocracy and the working classes managed to survive, the middle classes did not really grasp the opportunities offered by the new legislation. Napoleon's rule could have been accepted for a longer period had he not carried his anti-Catholic policy too far and had not his ambition led to conscription, increased taxes and the imposition of a continental blockade. After the interlude of the restoration, another capital was chosen for the new independent and united kingdom of Italy, and Milan had to wait for the full development of the industrial revolution before at last becoming the national economic centre we know today

Abstract:
The paper deals with mutual relationship between Barcelona and Milan concerning modernist architectural and urban design. Barcelona and Milano despite their different cities morphology and urban history, have similar characteristics. They can be easily recognized as they relates to many pieces of modern architecture constructed from the early fifties of the twentieth century, when the most significant architects of both cities entered into a friendly, intense and continuous contact. One could speak of a reciprocal fascination between architectural cultures of the two cities, especially as concerns the relationship between architectural design and urban morphology. This relationship was accomplished by means of three remarkable factors: the way a building is located in the urban space, the arrangement of the plan layout of each floor, and the aspects of the building referred to tectonic. The second one is a recognizable only through a carefully study of plans. Nevertheless it affects the identity of the two cities as involves the people way of living. We can identifiy typological analogies and organisational similarities in many exemplary residential buildings like Antonio Coderch’s ISM house in Barcelona or several house designed by Ignazio Gardella in Milan. The most remarkable topics about housing types are related to the H model plan, and double winged plan. These types are well-known in some small Italian residential building called palazzine, usually in central Italy but they are recognizable even in several housing building in Milan.

Tadi, Massimo. New Lynn – Auckland IMM Case Study. Unitec ePress, April 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.34074/book.062.

Abstract:
Integrated Modification Methodology (IMM) has already been applied in established metropolitan contexts, such as Porto Maravilha in Rio de Janeiro, the neighbourhood of Shahrak-e Golestan in Tehran, and Block 39 in New Belgrade. When Unitec Institute of Technology’s Associate Professor of Urban Design Dushko Bogunovich came up with the idea of a comparative analysis of two sprawling metropolitan contexts – Auckland and Milan – he and Massimo Tadi, Director of the IMMdesignlab in Milan and Associate Professor at the School of Architectural Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano, decided to apply IMM to a sample area of low-density suburban Auckland. The project presented in this book was developed in a joint international design workshop organised by Politecnico di Milano, IMMdesignlab and Unitec Institute of Technology. The workshop was held at Politecnico di Milano, Polo Territoriale di Lecco (Italy), from 25–29 May 2015, and the team, comprising 14 international students from different design disciplines, was coordinated by Tadi and Bogunovich, assisted by engineers Hadi Mohammad Zadeh and Frederico Zaniol (IMMdesignlab). The outcomes of the workshop were then further developed by IMMdesignlab to demonstrate how, by adopting IMM, it is possible to retrofit, renovate and reactivate an inefficient and energy consuming neighbourhood into a more integrated and sustainable one.
