Abstract:
Abstract In the Silesian Upland in southern Poland there are many objects related to previous economic activities, mainly from the mining of minerals occurring in a geological basis. In Mikołów Mokre there is the largest group of closed lime kilns in Poland. They constitute a material trace of the quicklime production industry for the construction industry, which operated in this area for almost 200 years. These closed and decaying post-industrial objects are closely related to the presence of limestone and dolomite in the substrate rocks that were obtained from nearby quarries. The aim of the article was to present the current state of these lime kilns and to assess the possibility of using them for tourism purposes. Currently, only two lime kilns are components of the educational trail of the Silesian Botanical Garden established in 2003. Using the example of the Mikołów lime kilns, the opportunities and possibilities for changing the industrial function of these objects to a tourist function are outlined.

Abstract:
The article deals with the promotion of pro-ecological initiatives addressed to residents of the municipality. It presents a concept of promotion, its basic instruments and conditions in relation to conducting this activity by Local Government Units. An attempt was made to refer these issues to the ecological aspects of the functioning of municipalities. Conducted considerations in this area are illustrated by examples of promotional activities in the field of ecology in the Mikołów municipality.

Abstract:
In Mikołów (Upper Silesia), a synagogue building was blown up and demolished in 1972 – a significant event that is preserved in the memory of the local population. In 2023, on the initiative of local authorities and cultural institutions, archaeological and architectural reconnaissance surveys were conducted to uncover, survey, and document any surviving relics of the synagogue. The research yielded new, previously unknown information regarding the building’s construction, including the discovery of the presumed floor of the synagogue’s vestibule. The preserved and uncovered remains of the foundations were secured after the research was completed and will undergo revitalisation and partial reconstruction in the future.

Abstract:
Genetic studies preceded by the observation of an unknown mosquito species in Mikołów (Poland) confirmed that it belongs to a new invasive species in Polish fauna, Aedes japonicus (Theobald, 1901), a known vector for numerous infectious diseases. Ae. japonicus is expanding its geographical presence, raising concerns about potential disease transmission given its vector competence for chikungunya virus, dengue virus, West Nile virus, and Zika virus. This first genetically confirmed identification of Ae. japonicus in Poland initiates a comprehensive review of the literature on Ae. japonicus, its biology and ecology, and the viral infections transmitted by this species. This paper also presents the circumstances of the observation of Ae. japonicus in Poland and a methodology for identifying this species.

Abstract:
This study, conducted as part of the ROCCS project, investigates the potential of coal seams for CO2 sequestration through in situ tests. The in situ tests, performed at Experimental Mine Barbara in Mikołów, Poland, involved injecting CO2 through a horizontal well into a coal seam, with variable well lengths and injection parameters. The experiments included monitoring for CO2 leakage and migration within the coal seam. The objective was to examine the correlation between the CO2 injection rate and the coal–CO2 contact area, monitoring for any potential leakage. The total mass of CO2 injected was about 7700 kg. Significant leakage, probably due to the formation of preferential pathways, prevented pressure buildup in the injection well. The results provide insights into challenges regarding CO2 injection into coal seams, with implications for the design of commercial-scale CO2 storage installations.

Abstract:
The urban smog has negative global effects. They are expressed in the increased mortality of people, an increase scale of respiratory diseases as well as climate changes causing negative effects in the field of agricultural crops, which results in an increase in food prices. The occurrence of these phenomena mobilizes the global community to conduct activities aimed at limiting their occurrence. Medium-sized cities can play a significant role in this respect. The element conditioning the life of city dwellers is the appropriate condition of the natural environment. In Polish and Slovak conditions, smog is becoming a problem, which negatively affects the health of citizens of these countries. Therefore, actions are taken to limit the occurrence of this phenomenon. They are described in the current ecological policy of both countries. This article tries to show on the example of the Polish commune of Mikołów and the Slovak commune of Żylina the actions taken in them to reduce air pollution and thereby reduce the phenomenon of smog. In both analysed cities, measures taken to reduce the phenomenon of smog are implemented in a planned manner and may be an inspiration for other medium-sized cities in the world having air quality problems

Abstract:
W warunkach spadku popytu na pracę następuje różnicowanie się atrakcyjności poszczególnych miast, co w konsekwencji prowadzi do reorientacji kierunków migracji. Celem artykułu jest wskazanie roli miast średniej wielkości w złożonym układzie osadniczym, jakim jest konurbacja katowicka, w świetle powiązań migracyjnych. Powiązania migracyjne rozpatrzono w oparciu o dane dotyczące odpływu migracyjnego (wymeldowania na pobyt stały). Ludność odpływająca z miast średnich konurbacji katowickiej w znacznej części (65,9% odpływu) kieruje się na obszary województwa śląskiego. Następuje przy tym wzmocnienie powiązań migracyjnych miast średnich w obrębie samej konurbacji katowickiej. Miasta średnie wykazywały silne powiązania migracyjne z miastami dużymi konurbacji. Zainicjowane zostały jednak zmiany w strukturze tych powiązań. Głównym kierunkiem odpływu migracyjnego z miast średnich wciąż pozostają Katowice, jednak wobec osłabienia rynku pracy oraz nasilania procesów suburbanizacji słabnie siła przyciągania innych miast dużych, zwłaszcza Sosnowca, Dąbrowy Górniczej i Zabrza. W największym stopniu wzrasta odpływ migrantów z miast średnich do miast małych i na obszary wiejskie, głównie powiatów będzińskiego i mikołowskiego. Miasta średnie nie stanowią dla siebie nawzajem atrakcyjnych kierunków migracji. Zaznacza się tu jedynie istotna i rosnąca rola Będzina. Zyskują na znaczeniu także Mikołów i Łaziska Górne. Natomiast Piekary Śląskie, Siemianowice Śląskie oraz Czeladź tracą swój dotąd znaczny udział w przejmowaniu migrantów z innych miast średnich.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The technology of permeable reactive barriers (PRB) is one of the most frequently developed methods for protecting soil and water from pollution. These barriers are zones filled with reactive material in which contaminants are immobilized and/or their concentration is reduced to the limit values during the flow of contaminated groundwater. This article presents a study on the efficiency of the removal of contaminants from the post-processing water from the underground coal gasification (UCG) process. The tests were carried out in a laboratory using a flow-through reactor design. The post-processing water came from a UCG experiment carried out in the Barbara mine, Mikołów, Poland. Activated coal, zeolite, and nano-iron were used as the reactive materials in the experiment. The obtained results were compared to tests carried out with reference water (artificial) with strictly defined characteristics. Research has shown that activated carbon is the most effective material used in the reaction zone for removing organic contaminants from groundwater generated during the coal conversion process. A new feature is the use of PRB in a georeactor zone during the UCG process to limit the potential risk of contamination spreading in the case of uncontrolled and unpredictable operation, in emergency situations related to gas leaks into the environment, during underground fires, and for water polluted by high-toxicity substances.

Praca magisterska pod tytułem Renesansowy diariusz „Peregrynacja do Ziemi Świętej, Syrii i Egiptu 1582-1584 Mikołaja Krzysztofa Radziwiłła „Sierotki”” zostały przedstawione i wyodrębnione najważniejsze motywy, które istniały w tym uprawianym gatunku piśmiennictwa przez polskich podróżników oraz pątników. Główny cel powyższego opracowania został odzwierciedlony, ponieważ zostały przedstawione najważniejsze tendencje Renesansu oraz została ukazana postać litewskiego magnata – Mikołaja Krzysztofa Radziwiłła „Sierotki”. Poza tym została zaprezentowana droga podróżnika, którą przemierzał na teren Ziemi Świętej, Syrii i Egiptu. Zostały przedstawione obiekty widziane przez pątnika z Wielkiego Księstwa Litewskiego. Przedstawiłam najważniejsze wątki peregrynacji. By móc osiągnąć zamierzony cel powinnam była zaprezentować pojęcie diariusza, pamiętnika jako gatunku piśmiennictwa, ukazując ich podobieństwa oraz cechy dzielące oba hasła. Również ukazałam najważniejsze tendecje epoki Renesansu, które otwierały nowe spojrzenie na literaturę i człowieka, co można uzasadnić maksymą łacińską: Homo sum; humani nil a me alienum esse puto . Mówiąc o księciu Mikołaju Radziwile „Sierotce”, pierwszym litewskim magnacie podróżującym po ziemiach Dalekiego Wschodu oraz walorach spisanego diariusza, który został spisany po polsku ówczesną XVI–wieczną polszczyzną. Nie pomniejszając wartości diariusza, który posiadał funkcje użyteczne, bowiem służył pielgrzymom jako pierwszy przewodnik po miejscach... [toliau žr. visą tekstą]
Magistro darbe “Renesansiniai dienoraščiai Mykolo Kristupo Radvilos „Našlaitėlio“ Peregrynacja do Ziemi Świętej, Syrii i Egiptu 1582-1584” buvo pristatyti ir išskirti svarbiausiai tikslai, kuriais buvo vadovaujamasi šios srities lenkų keliautojų ir piligrimų raštijoje. Pagrindinis šio darbo tikslas liko atskleistas, nes buvo aprašyti pagrindiniai Renesanso ir Lietuvos magnato – Mykolo Kristupo Radvilo „Našlaitėlio“ motyvai. Be to darbe buvo aprašyta keliautojo trasa, jo matyti objektai ir svarbiausi kelionės aspektai. Darbe aprašiau dienoraštį, kaip raštijos rūšį ir lyginant su memuarais, parodant jų panašumus ir skirtumus, kad galėčiau pasiekti savo darbo tikslą. Aprašiau Renesanso laikotarpio tendencijas, nes jos sukūrė naują požiūrį į literatūrą ir žmogų, tai pabrėžia lotynų sentencija: Homo sum; humani nil a me alienum esse puto(Žmogus esu, manau, kad niekas kas žmogiška nėra man svetima). Kalbėdama apie kunigaikštį Mykolą Kristupą Radvilą „Našlaitėlį“, kuris pirmas parašė platų ir išsamų darbą apie kelionę į Šventąją Žemę, Siriją ir Egiptą. Norėčiau pabrėžti šio dienoraščio, kaip pirmojo kelionių vadovo šventose vietose, skirto piligrimams vertę. Juliušas Slovackis 1836 - 1838 metais, kada keliavo į Artimuosius Rytus panaudojo Radvilo „Našlaitėlio“ dienoraštį.
Master’s thesis titled The Renaissance diary Peregrination's diary to the Holy Land, Egypt and Syria 1582-1584 Nicholas Christopher Radziwiłł “Sierotka” were presented to and extracted the most important themes that existed in Polish literature and used by the travelers and pilgrims. The main objective of this development is reflected, as they were presented to the major trends of the Renaissance and the short biography of Lithuanian magnate - Nicholas Christopher Radziwiłł “Sierotka”. In addition, the route was presented to the traveler, traveled by, objects seen by the traveler. Besides the most important themes were shown peregrinations. To be able to attain this objective should be to show the main concept of diary, a memories as a genre of literature, showing their similarities and sharing features. Had the tendency of the Renaissance have been presented since they opened a new perspective on literature and human, which can be justified by the Latin maxim: Homo sum, humani nil a me alienum esse puto (I am a man, I think that nothing human is alien to me). Speaking of the Prince Nicholas Christopher Radziwiłł “Sierotka”, which merit was written in Polish first extensive and detailed diary of his pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Syria and Egypt. Not deducted from the value of diary, which had a useful function, because the pilgrims served as the first guide to the holy sites. Habilitacijos procedūrai teikiamoje mokslo darbų apžvalgoje „Reformacija ir religinės minties plėtra Lietuvos Didžiojoje Kunigaištystėje“ aptariama monografija Maištininkų katedros. Ankstyvoji reformacija ir lietuvių-italų evangelikų ryšai (2008) bei mokslo straipsniai, nagrinėjantys LDK reformacijos ir protestantų literatūros problemas. Pagrindinis mokslinės analizės chronologinis objektas – ankstyvojo LDK reformacijos etapo kultūros procesai (XVI a. 5-6 dešimtmetis), tačiau analizuojami ir kai kurie vėlesni, XVI a. antros pusės – XVII a. pirmos pusės protestantų literatūros ir kultūros raidos ypatumai. Tai tarpdalykinis tyrimas, integruojantis LDK kultūros, bažnyčių ir konfesijų bei literatūros istorijos tyrimų užduotis. The review of the scholarly publications by Dainora Pociūtė „Reformation and the Development of the Confessional Thought in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania“, which has been submitted for the habilitation procedure, discusses the monograph of the said author titled Rebellious Cathedrals. Early Reformation and the contacts between Lithuanian and Italian Evangelicals (2008) as well as her various scholarly papers on the topic of Reformation and Protestant literature of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (GDL). The main subject of her study deals with the cultural processes of the early Reformation of GDL (the first two decades of the Reformation); however some aspects of the later development of Protestant literature and culture at the second half of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century have also been taken into consideration. This interdisciplinary research integrates the issues and concerns of the history of culture, churches, confessions and literature of GDL. The main issues of the research are: the beginning of the Reformation in Lithuania and the reconstruction of the intellectual biography of Abraomas Kulvietis (Abraham Culvensis Gynvilionis), the pioneer of Lithuanian Evangelical thought; the two early Lithuanian confessions of Evangelical faith: Confessio fidei by Culvensis (1543) and Radziwiłł the Black’s answer to the Papal Nuncio Aloisio Lippomano (Duae epistolae, 1556); the links between Lithuanian and Italian Evangelicals and the role of the Italians in... Abstract:
This article aims to show how Dante Alighieri was ‘used’ in Renaissance Polish literature. Dante was known by Polish intellectuals first of all as a political theorist. Only in the second half of the 14th century did Polish writers start to refer to him as a great poet (Długosz). However, Dante was rather known than read and ‘used’ as a topic character to demonstrate the excellence of vernacular poetry. Andrzej Trzecieski the Younger, in fact, wrote in a couple of epigrams to his friend Mikołaj Rej, that Rej is to Polish literature, what Dante (and Petrarch) was to Italian literature; in addition to this, Trzecieski underlines, through intertextual allusions, that Dante (and Rej) had the same dignity of ancient Greek and Latin poets. This attitude that vernacular literature is on par with Greek and ancient literature is found also in the elegy III 8 by Jan Kochanowski, where Ronsard is presented as a “classic” poet. The final part of this work compares the situation in 15th and 16th-century Italian and Polish literature in terms of the relationship between ancient and vernacular poetry.

Abstract:
This article discusses several legendary ways of writing about the history of medieval culture and the figure of the famous astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus. The author divided the legends into Enlightenment, Nazi, Communist and general ones. They are all simple but false ways of writing about history by contrast. They come from emotions and prejudices. In the source literature, there is no basis for the legendary image of Copernicus and his era.
