Abstract:
The article studies the image of Mikhail M. Speransky as a Siberian governor-general presented in the memoirs of his contemporaries. Among them are people who praised him (P. T. Basnin, I. T. Kalashnikov), people who criticized him (P. P. Gerasimov, P. O. Katyshevtsev), people who tried to maintain objectivity (E. I. Stogov). All these people knew and communicated with Mikhail M. Speransky personally. Examined memoirs characterize his appearance, habits, relations with the local society, evaluate the significance of the “Siberian institution”. Created by memoirists representation of a statesman reflects ideas about the ideal head of the region: he must be strict and merciful, have an extraordinary intellect and will, be an “economic” administrator, know Siberia and take care of Siberian population.

Abstract:
Target setting. In the modern musical culture of the Republic of Moldova M. V. Sechkin stands out as one of the key figures. He proved to be a multi skilled musician: piano player, conductor, and pedagogue. The scientific challenge disclosed in the article touches on creation of a coherent reflection of the work conducted by M. Sechkin in musical and artistic institutions of the Republic of Moldova during 1988–2015. Thus, notably contributing to the theoretical perception of the process of musical art development in the Republic of Moldova at the turn of the 21st century while filling up the gap in studying the history of Moldovan musical culture. Review of literature. The activity conducted by M. Sechkin was not reflected in the scientific literature. The present paper is the first attempt to present the creative portrait of the musician by summarizing press articles and a range of interviews. The purpose of this paper is confined to disclosing the contribution made by the famous piano player, conductor, and pedagogue M. Sechkin in the process of musical art development in Moldova at the turn of the 21st century. Research methodology. In the research of creative activity of M. Sechkin, use has been made of a complex of methods applicable in modern study of art: the empirical level of scientific research was established through informal personal conversations with M. Sechkin and other musicians, directly linked with his activity. Applied at the theoretical level were general scientific methods, such as analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, comparison, etc. Statement of basic material. Over the years, M. V. Sechkin, born on March 31, 1943 in the Ukrainian City of Kharkov, has contributed decisively to the development of musical culture in the Republic of Moldova as a pianist, opera and symphony orchestra conductor, professor and public figure. He took his first lessons in music from his mother Maria Sechkin Zakharchenko, the follower of K. N. Igumnov. He attended the profile secondary musical school, class of Regina Gorovitz – the sister to the famous pianist Vladimir Gorovitz. In 1966, M. Sechkin graduated from Kharkov Conservatoire as a pianist on the class of Professor Mikhail Khazanovsky and then selected to remain with the Chair as an assistant. However, his dream of making a carrier of symphony and opera conductor has taken the young musician to a different path. The interest for conducting appeared under the influence of the art of conducting revealed by Leonid Khudoley, disciple of Nikolay Golovanov. Therefore, two years later, after graduation, M. Sechkin has entered the faculty of conductors at Kharkov Institute of Arts. One year later, he moves to Kyiv Conservatoire named after P. I. Tchaikovsky, where he attended the class of Professor Mikhail Kanershtein, disciple of one of the founders of the Soviet school of conducting Nicolay Malko. Next followed probation assistantship, where M. Sechkin attended a training course headed by the outstanding Ukrainian conductor Stephan Turchak. Having accomplished his probation assistantship, M. Sechkin has joined the Symphonic orchestra of Zaporozhye Philharmonics and later on invited to Donetsk Opera Theatre, where he mastered a rather comprehensive theatrical repertoire. The Chisinau (Moldova) period of maestro’s creative biography started beck in 1988, when he accepted the invitation to join the Moldovan State Conservatoire as Professor of the Chair of Special Piano and the Chair of Operatic Training. By then he headed the Students Symphony Orchestra, being one of the first conductors of Opera Studio. The Studio repertoire included the best images of West European and Russian opera classics. Prepared from the scratch were such operas as Carmen by G. Bizet and the Noblewoman Vera Sheloga by N. А. Rimsky Korsakov. The students – alumni of this conservatoire then worked successfully at the National Opera Theatre, performed in prestigious opera scenes around the world; among these one could mention Petru Racovita, Natalia Margarit, Lilya Sholomey, Yuri Gasca, Robert Khvalov, Stephan Curudimov, Mefodie Bujor, and Liliana Lavric. The Opera Studio Orchestra was touring in Italy and Spain. For a number of decades, M. Sechkin acted as one of the key conductors at the National Opera and Ballet Theatre, while from 1990 to 1992 acted as the Principal Conductor and the Art Director. Here he worked on staging the ballets Romeo & Juliette by S. Prokofiev, Spartacus by А. Khachaturian, and operas the Marriage of Figaro by W. Mozart, Don Carlos by G. Verdi, and Iolanta by P. I. Tchaikovsky. In parallel to the theatre plays, M. Sechkin has brightly proven his qualities as a conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonics named after S. Lunchevici. Under his leadership (2008–2013), the orchestra performed more than twenty show programs, including premiere hits by P. Tchaikovsky (Symphony No. 5, symphony Manfred), A. Scriabin (Symphony No. 2 and No. 3), and S. Rachmaninoff (Symphony No. 3). Many of the musicians are marking high conducting mastery of M. Sechkin in performing orchestral accompaniment and special work with the soloists prior to orchestra performance. Likewise appreciated was the work of maestro with young musicians. The conductor devotes a lot of his time to promoting the oeuvre of Moldovan composers. Since 2000 and until nowadays, within the frameworks of the Days of New Music Festival, jointly with the National Philharmonics Orchestra, the maestro prepared a number of programs compiled from the works of V. Polyakov, V. Zagorsky, V. Rotaru, A. Luxemburg, O. Negruza, B. Dubossarsky, and Z. Tcaci. In 30 years of his activity in Chisinau, M. Sechkin cooperated with all of the known orchestra ensembles. Back in 90th, maestro was successfully touring with the National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Rumania and Chile. In Rumania, M. Sechkin was working full time as a conductor and then as the principal conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the city of Botosani (1998–2013), where he managed to stage about 70 show programs. The multifaceted and fruitful activity of the musician was repeatedly marked with Certificates of Honor and Diplomas. In 1996, he was decorated with the award Maestru în Artă (Master of Arts) and in 2018 with the noble award of the People’s Artist of the Republic of Moldova. Conclusions and prospects. While appreciating the contribution made by this outstanding musician into the development of the musical culture in the Republic of Moldova, one could clearly see the determinant trajectory of his life and artistic journey – the stalwart devotion to music, musical education, nurturing young performers and listeners of different age group generations.

Abstract:
The article describes the experience of analyzing a literary text in the light of the concept of heterotopy developed by M. Foucault. The features of the embodiment of «other spaces» in the prose of M. Kuraev, the «classic» of the modern «Petersburg text», are considered. For M. Kuraev’s artistic method, the advice of localizing an action in a limited space, which acquires the status of «other» in the context of a work, is quite typical. The most obvious use of the technique in the novel «Montachki’s Mirror», where the object of artistic research was the Leningrad communal apartment, the narrative representation of which contains the typical features of heterotopy.

Abstract The two volumes of letters by Mikhail Lifschitz, recently published in Russian, reveal for the first time certain aspects of his relationship with György Lukács and his general intellectual and cultural role in the long history of Soviet aesthetics. The first volume contains all the known letters between Lifschitz and Lukács; the second volume contains the letters from Lifschitz to three of his younger colleagues. Both volumes throw considerable light on the development of Marxist aesthetics in the Soviet Union from the 1930s to the 1980s. The extensive commentaries and notes provide context for the various discussions in the letters and situate the main issues under consideration within the wider historical and social context of the period.

Abstract:
The article presents the history of business and friendly relations between F. M. Dostoevsky and M. I. Semevsky, an employee of the “Vremya” journal and the editor of “Russkaya Starina”, the largest historical journal of the 19th century. Semevsky most likely met Dostoevsky in the early 1860s, when the former became a contributing author of the “Vremya” journal and wrote two large-scale historical essays for the publication: “Tsarina Praskovya” and “The Mons Family.” Dostoevsky was familiar with Semevsky’s works even prior to their personal meetings and intended to polemize with his concept of Peter's time, as evidenced by the surviving sketches of the writer's critical review. The idea of a polemic was rejected when Semevsky became the author of the “Vremya” journal. Its editors, the Dostoevsky brothers, appreciated his cooperation and, as confirmed in the fee book, paid him more than many other authors. The meetings of Dostoevsky and Semevsky were reflected in the epistolary legacy and in the notes of Semevsky, which he wrote in the autumn of 1866 after the trial of the revolutionary Nikolai Ishutin. In November 1876, Semevsky gave Dostoevsky the documents for “A Writer's Diary”, requesting him not to identify the source. The communication between Dostoevsky and Semevsky in the last year of the writer's life is mentioned in the memoirs of E. N. Opochinin. The article provides an overview of Dostoevsky's letters of 1854‒1879, published in “Russkaya Starina” in 1883‒1885, as well as of memoirs of various persons about Dostoevsky, published during the life of the editor and after his death. Archival documents revealing new facts of the biography of Dostoevsky, Semevsky and their contemporaries were used and introduced into scientific circulation in the study.

Abstract:
Mikhail Zoshchenko’s Sentimental Tales are organized as a pyramid where each level is consistent and connected with the previous ones and with Russian classic literature. One of the writers who most influenced Zoshchenko was Anton Chekhov. Their creative similarity is manifold: the poetics of daily life, the image of the little man they wrote about, the lyrical humor, the existential problems they raised. The present study provides a comprehensive analysis and an intertextual comparison of M. Zoshchenko’s and A. Chekhov’s poetics. The paper aims to identify how Zoshchenko employs and transforms Chekhov’s principle of discovery story and to determine the meaning-forming functions performed by intertexts. The analysis revealed that M. Zoshchenko’s Sentimental Tales are to a great degree based on Chekhov’s discovery story genre. The theme of sudden insight, the it seemed versus it turned out compositional principle, existential problems, man-in-a-case complex continue the literary succession and offer new opportunities for the interpretation of Zoshchenko’s prose. Characters created by Zoshchenko represent the average intellectual type of the last century. The tragedy lies in the fact that their world no longer exists, and fate is irreversible, thus the intellectuals become senseless martyrs, victims of the change of epoch. Whether the characters are aware of this problem or not, being the subjects of orientation in reality, they inevitably plunge into a dead end of cognition of being. Consequently, fears, loneliness, lack of understanding, perplexity, disunity, communication failure acquire depth in M. Zoshchenko’s tales. The paper evidently demonstrates the authors sympathy for intellectuals he writes about. Existential pathos, eternal powerlessness of the thought and action, pathos of the impossibility of returning to the past life, and fear of the unknown future, constitute the inner issues of Sentimental Tales and raise the stories to the philosophical level.

Abstract:
The article reconstructs a scholarly biography of M. M. Bakhtin, an outstanding philosopher of the 20th century, whose influence on the development of humanities in Russia and abroad can hardy be overestimated and remains strong even in the 21st century. One of the most important goals of Bakhtin studies as an interdisciplinary humanitarian research of recent decades is the investigation of M. M. Bakhtin’s philosophy and its evolution during the 1910s–1970s as well as the study of external factors, philosophical schools and trends that influenced Bakhtin’s philosophy. M. M. Bakhtin’s collected works (published in 2012), research works conducted by V. L. Makhlin, N. I. Nikolayev, N. A. Pankov, N. D. Tamarchenko, L. A. Gogotisjvili, M. Kholkvist, G. S. Morson, K. Emerson, G. Tikhanov, K. Brendist, articles and essays written by S. G. Bocharov, V. V. Kozhinov, B. N. Turbin, and other works gain special significance in the present context. The authors of the article describe M. M. Bakhtin’s life and work through the prism of an interdisciplinary approach, employ the methods of microhistory and the idea of little time, rely on the investigations of Russian and foreign scholars working in the field of Bakhtin studies and their own research conduced in the 1990s-2010s. The article focuses on some landmarks of the philosopher’s scholarly biography, characterizes his major achievements, investigates the evolution of his philosophical and aesthetical views and his research methodology, characterizes the scholarly and socio-cultural contexts of Bakhtin’s work in Newel and Vitebsk, analyzes Bakhtin’s “Problems of Dostoyevsky’s Poetics”, investigates his manuscript about Rabelais and his late works. The first part of the article attempts to reconstruct the philosopher’s life and work starting with the early period and finishing with the “Problems of Dostoyevsky’s Poetics” and the exile caused by the Voskresenie case.

Abstract:
Abstract:
The article reveals the connection between the creative method of M. Matyushin and the search for a new spirituality associated with the ideological and aesthetic searches of Russian modernism in the era of the Silver Age. The relevance of the article is due to the need for a comprehensive analysis of the heritage of the Russian avant-garde, because, in the Soviet period, everything that went beyond the method of socialist realism was excluded from public consideration. A new aesthetics of theatrical futurism emerged in 1913 in the experimental opera production “Victory over the Sun”. In 1923, M. Matyushin formulated the program of “extended viewing”, calling it “ZOR-VED”, which came from the Russian words “Vision” + “Knowledge”. The contemplative method he proposed, by analogy with Buddhist practices, made it possible to overcome the fragmentation of the reality perception. The observer was to go beyond the space-time limitations, while the boundaries between the object and the subject would become blurred, removing the animate / inanimate opposition, and an understanding of the integrity of the universe would be achieved. M. Matyushin perceived color as a complex phenomenon, depending on the illumination, color of the environment, movement. The result of the experiments conducted by Matyushin at the State Institute of Artistic Culture (GINHUK) was the “Guide to Color” (1932). The method of “extended viewing” brought closer a new era of comprehension of the world as a whole, foreshadowing a breakthrough in many areas of knowledge: the sciences of consciousness, philosophy, psychology and even physics. However, in the country of victorious socialism, the experiments, which anticipated the further development of the visual arts of the 20th century, were forcibly stopped. M. Matyushin continued his search for a new spatial aesthetics in his home theater. The novelty of the solution to the problems under consideration is due to the fact that the article introduces a whole layer of rejected culture of the first third of the 20th century into scientific use, analyzes the activities of the little-studied organic direction of the Russian avant-garde, and compares M. Matyushin’s method of “extended viewing” with Buddhist practices.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to identify the main directions of Mikhail Mordkin’s creativity in Kyiv in 1918-1919. Chronological, comparative, typological and other methods are used in this work. The Kyiv period of M. Mordkin's creativity is associated with his pedagogical, performing and choreographic activities. His productions of the ballets Flowers of Granada, Giselle, La Fille mal gardée (The Wayward Daughter), as well as dance numbers and divertissements in opera and drama performances became meaningful to the artistic life of the city. M. Mordkin gained valuable experience of the director as a result of cooperation with Ukrainian creative intellectuals (L. Kurbas, M. Bonch-Tomashevsky, A. Petritsky, V. Verkhovinets). The stage production skills of Mordkin as the dancer served as an example for many Ukrainian artists. Mordkin as the teacher managed to significantly increase the size of the ballet troupe of the Kyiv Opera in a short time. It was made thanks students from his own studio, he expanded their professional capabilities through careful and systematic physical training. The research materials can serve as a basis for creating special courses on the history of choreography, can be used in subsequent theoretical studies devoted to the learning of Russian and Ukrainian ballet theaters or in the educational process in academic institutions of the corresponding profile.

Abstract:
The research centers upon the bibliographical study of the history (1991–2017) and prehistory (1957–1990) of M. M. Prishvin’s «Diaries» (1905–1954) publication recognized as the longest (18 volumes) diaries in Russian literature. In modern science Prishvin’s «Diaries» are studied in a number of aspects: as a historical and cultural chronicle of the country in 1905–1954; the writer’s self-consciousness and creative laboratory; a fiction text in the system of its motives, literary and philosophical contexts, as well as from the point of view of its publishing fate which is narrowly understood as a fragmentary history of its publication. The paper novelty is due to, first, reconstruction of the history and prehistory of the «Diaries» publication, and second, the system analysis of the publication history in connection with the changing economic models of publishing business, types of publishing houses, their repertoire, strategies, and features of the editorial work during the publication of the collected works. Moreover, the author distinguishes three types of ego-texts in Prishvin’s works (sketch books, diary, and diary books) and, accordingly, different publication strategies. The study reveals that within the prehistory of the «Diaries» publication there were two main approaches to their publishing: first, they were published in shortened versions (1986); second, in fragmentary versions based on the thematic or chronological principle, most often in a journal variant. Prishvin’s «Diaries» are considered in the context of the writer’s whole collected works: the pre-Soviet («Znanie Publishing House», 1912–1914) and the Soviet («Gosizdat», 1927–1930, 1929–1931; «Goslitizdat», 1935–1939; «Khudozhestvennaya literature», 1982–1986) periods. The history of Prishvin’s «Diaries» publication in the post-Soviet period is described as a collective book project carried out by the efforts of five state and non-state publishing houses: «Moskovskii Rabochii» (1991–1995), «Russkaya kniga» (1999–2004), «ROSSPEN» (2012); «Novyi Khronograf» (2013–2014); and «Rostok» (2006–2017). The author demonstrates the «Diaries» connection with the repertoire and strategies of these publishers. After the reconstruction of the history and prehistory of Prishvin’s «Diaries» publication from the initial fragments to full print and electronic versions, the author convincingly proves that this long-term collective book project belongs to the local history of the Russian publishing industry in the XX–XXI centuries.

Abstract:
The article reconstructs a scholarly biography of M. M. Bakhtin, an outstanding philosopher of the 20thcentury, whose influence on the development of humanities in Russia and abroad can hardy be overestimated and remains strong even in the 21stcentury. S. Morson, K. Emerson, G. Tikhanov,K. The second part of the article attempts to restructure the philosopher’s life and work from the beginning of his exile in Kustanay till 1975. The article shows that Bakhtin’s works of the 1930s bear witness to the fact that Bakhtins’ sociological poetics gradually transforms into historical poetics. The article deals with Bakhtin’s investigation of Rabelais’ works in the 1940s–1950s. It underlines the importance of Bakhtin’s ideas for the development of both Soviet and foreign humanitarian studies in the 1960s–1970s.

Abstract:
Mikhail Stogovskii is the pseudonym of the now-forgotten Siberian author Mikhail Nikolaevich Ananyev. In 1918–1919 he regularly published his satirical texts in the newspaper Russian Speech. The newspaper was published in the Siberian city, which was then called Novo-Nikolaevsk. M. Stogovskii describes the absurdity of modern reality, so he often uses quotations from newspapers as epigraphs that define a comic position. During two years of work in the Novikolaevsk’s newspaper, there is a dynamic in his texts: from light humorous texts to sharp satire about the new political regime. M. Stogovskii preferred allegorical genres (fables, fairy tales), many of which are devoted to the topic of political struggle at the end of 1918 and at the beginning of 1919. By the end of 1919, the Bolsheviks and their political regime became the main object of ridicule, because Siberia was still under the control of the White Army during the publication of the newspaper Russian Speech. Bolshevism was perceived as an enemy movement, the authors faced the task of creating not just an entertaining text, but creating negative images of the leaders of Bolshevism, therefore caricature images of Lenin and Trotskii often appear in feuilletons. However, M. Stogovskii created a satire on all levels of society, including the local government and ordinary citizens. He skillfully mastered such comic techniques as irony and sarcasm, creating multi-valued, multi-level jokes and ridicule. This talent allowed M. Stogovskii to stand out among a large number of his contemporary feuilleton authors.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to study the idiostyle of children's poetry by Mikhail Yasnov, one of the contemporary poets. His children’s poems are a special type of text, the figurative structure of which is considered in a variety of language games with the word and folklore origins. The roots of children’s poetry by M. Yasnov go back to folk literature, which makes it possible to reconstruct such genres for children as a lullaby, a tedious fairy tale, a rhyme, a riddle, etc. The research material included poems from various collections for children. The authors analyze various methods of word creation and emphasize the role of language games in the development of children's creativity. Almost every poem of this poet is a game with sounds, words and concepts. Particular attention is paid to the influence of V. Khlebnikov’s works on M. Yasnov’s views. All this together reveals M. Yasnov’s message about the “formal image of a poem” for children’s poetry.

Abstract:
In May 1939, there was a large-scale military conflict between Japan and the Soviet Union as a result of Japanese provocative acts in the territory of Manchurian-Mongolian border near Nomonhan-Burd-Obo. It took place in the territory of the Mongolian People’s Republic. The Soviet Union won in September of the same year. The article, based on the unique archive documents and emigrants’ publications, presents a biography of a Russian emigrant, a military officer of Manchukuo army M. Natarov who died in the battle of Khalkhyn Gol in July 1939. The authors also analyze the rise of the cult of warriors against the Communist International in the Russian emigrants’ community. M. Natarov’s death was used by the emigrant politicians supported by Japanese authorities to create the cult of heroes killed in the struggle against the Communist International. The aim of the cult was to unite Russian emigrants on the background of anti-Soviet climate. Due to the short period of its existence and tepid response from the emigrants’ community, the cult failed to gain ground in the minds of Russian emigrants in Manchukuo. The article is based on the documents of the Khabarovsk Region State Archive.

Abstract:
This article considers the sphere of linguistic humour, specifically the linguistic structure of the so-called ‘chernomyrdinki’. Chernomyrdinki are written fixations of spontaneous oral statements by Viktor S. Chernomyrdin, a Soviet and post-Soviet statesman (1938–2010), which have become aphorisms. Chernomyrdinki are regularly reproduced and have not lost their popularity. Chernomyrdinki are, for the most part, Chernomyrdin’s spontaneous reactions to typical questions from journalists. The task of this study is to show that the not fully conscious, spontaneous statements by V. Chernomyrdin and the speech of Mikhail Zoshchenko’s heroes, deliberately constructed by the author in the course of the creative process, have much in common in their techniques of the comic and are at times identical. This study is based on the classification of “humour” in the speech of the heroes of M. Zoshchenko, developed by Mikhail Kreps.

Abstract:
The study focuses on colloquial phraseology as part of the vocabulary of the writer Mikhail Matusovsky. Phraseology as a language subsystem embodying ethnoculture by linguistic means is an integral part of the writer’s artistic-figurative system. The phraseological fund of the works of Mikhail Matusovsky is quite diverse semantically and stylistically. In the array of phraseological units, a significant part is made up of colloquial expressions. The author concludes that M. Matusovsky not only uses in the texts the expressions recorded by phraseographic sources, but also transforms individual phraseological units. Semantic and structural transformation of phraseological units is used. It isestablished that in works of fiction, phraseological units perform various stylistic functions: they provide the emotionally expressive sound of the text, serve as portrait, characteristics of characters, convey the psycho-emotional states of lyrical heroes and characters.
